“Hovering and gliding winged insects are commonly attracted to gardens filled with blooming flowers. Tiffany Studios, inspired by such insects’ flight, created decorative glass lamp screens. These screens were suspended from a long chain, which was attached to the finial, or topmost part of a lamp, and intended to hang just below the lower rim of a lampshade. The insect designs—a moth, dragonfly, butterfly, or, at rare times, a winged nymph—were paired with garden-themed shades to soften the light from the harsh lightbulbs of the lamp.

Sold as fancy goods, the lamp screens were made in the same way leaded-glass windows and lampshades were—by employing the keen eye of the glass selector to imagine the glowing colors of each insect. Glass sections were then cut to shape based upon patterns made in copper, so that they could be used in repetition, and joined together using a copper foil technique. In addition to a dragonfly lamp screen, the Museum also has an example of its copper pattern from the family of Tiffany Studios workman Henry Salzer (1879–1943).”

Description

Melville's experiences in Egypt inspired his fascination with the decorative potential of light and shadow. He explored the exquisite, scintillating patterns of the mashrabiyya woodwork of this interior, balancing its intricacy against a broader treatment of reflective materials and surface patterns within the room. The seated man's composure and the restrained yet warm colouring of his garments complement the pervading stillness and serenity of the scene. The painting was worked up from sketches made in Cairo in 1881.

Lava Lamp launches a counter attack, and Evil Wolverine attacks back once more. And then it looks like Fai joins in too - I want to say by defending Lava Lamp?

Which is a fun little moment for Fai too, since it completes that arc from his backstory where his magic was destructive when he wanted it to be healing. But here, at the climax of it all, he gets to use it to defend his chosen family instead. 

It’s lovely.

A Meeting of the Newcastle Phrenological Society

Description

Phrenologists studied the shape and size of the skull as a means of determining the character and intelligence of a person. The practice was widely considered to have little scientific merit and in this painting phrenology is presented as more of a parlour entertainment than a serious academic pursuit. Eight men from the local Newcastle Phrenological Society drink, converse and share snuff around a table whilst a ninth man examines the temple bones of one of the seated figures.

Eight male figures are seated around a green baize table illuminated by an oil lamp, with decanters and glasses on the table. A ninth man stands while he examines the bumps on a fellow's head. A female attendant enters the room from the right. The first meeting of the Phrenological Society was held on the 7th December 1835.

In much the same spirit as in the traditional house. Above the chest, a shoji screen has been turned into a decorative wall hanging. Ranma were designed to provide light and let air circulate, and ranged from simple geometric grilles to elaborate scenes. Their creative motifs influenced the applied arts in Japan, providing inspiration for dyers' stencils, lacquerwork and textiles.

I can’t take the moral high ground some of these riara antis think they’re taking. Many of whom are Rafe fans, some I even decided to scroll through their pages and its full of dark Rafe x reader where reader is either has kies personality or the dynamic is even more toxic than riara in the show. I have to ask if they believe that those dynamics and tropes should only be present in one form of media (books/written) and never depicted on our screens, if so its kinda reductive. Anyway they clearly enjoy said dynamics if it comes with a 3x3 moodboard with Lana del ray soundtrack with a white faceclaim. No shade to the ‘x reader’ community I’m one of you.

Also how are riara fans any more morally reprehensible for enjoying a toxic fictional ship but you’re not for enjoying a toxic fictional man (Rafe)? Like if you head canon rafe as ooc as possible that doesn’t mean that’s the real him, rafe is terrible many of them are clearly projecting and need him to be better (cus they can't sit with the fact they like a 'bad guy') as if he’s not already a murderer, a bunch of -isms and Rafe liking kiara isn’t crossing any lines the obx books haven’t already alluded to Rafe crossing. Why is everyone getting their knickers in a twist over ship bait that might not happen?

This age gap discourse is also tired as their gap is less than 2 and a half years and Kie is 19 at this point in the story and Rafe’s 21. While I know kook year riara is a common fan theory, it just that a theory and if the writer decided to do riara they could very well decide against the theory and opt for a clean slate. Regardless, Kiara won’t be a minor in s5 and kook year isn't confirmed so it’s irrelevant.

god, yeah, yknow i piss and moan a lot about how OBX fans have gradually voiced this demand for the sanitization of their show until it’s a slice of life anime about a surfer town (and like, that sounds like a fun show! but it’s not outer banks and literally never has been) and this odd belief that any character even the tiniest bit more problematic than dr doofenshmirtz is entirely disqualified from redemption ……….. but no the hypocrisy might be even worse 😭
