i can't stop thinking about Zo from hfw, and how underrated she is. she barely knew Varl for like, what? a week? before she was willing to riskitall for him and his best friend. took care of an injured Aloy for two days just for this bitch to wake up and disrespect her beliefs. and still took it in stride, no, took it SERIOUSLY! she "betrayed" her community and her spirituality in order to find out how to protect both. it wasn't arrogance that drove her to disobey the Chorus and to want to find out what happened to Re, Fa, and the other landgods. it was compassion, for her people and her gods.

Zo was a healer in the Red Raids. she tended to wounded soldiers and buried the seeds of those who fell. she lost her whole family while contributing, finding her village to be massacred when she returned. the smell of burning flesh she said, had stained her mind. she sought out vengeance and lived to regret it when the attack on Barren Light brought the memory back to her. and yet these experiences did not scare her away from becoming a gravesinger, basically a hospice worker.

when faced with the truth of her people's gods, she cries. not because they had to kill one, but because the idea of her gods not being gods at all is incredibly upsetting. Zo grew up in this culture, and it all turns out to be a comforting lie. except, as Zo explains, it doesn't change the importance of the grimhorns to the Utaru. because even if they aren't spiritual beings, they are still the reason for their harvests and the cultivation of their society. the Utaru still would not exist as they do without the landgods of Plainsong.

i love love loooove this detail about her personality; her willingness to find inspiration in tragedy, to seek truth and justice regardless of what the people around her or even she herself, believes. she's willing to challenge herself no matter how difficult in order to overcome her fears or ignorance. even when she's being BULLIED by Erend, she never raises her voice or throws insults back at him. she only challenges him (to some sparring) in order to prove to him that she is in fact a worthy opponent, and by association so are her people. she's a vegetarian, which is never treated by the narrative as weakness or softness. just a fact of her society; they eat plants, grow plants, live in homes and adorn themselves in clothes all made of plants. she's gentle and soft-spoken but also tough and vengeful. these traits coexist within her without ever appearing hypocritical. she's so real, and so smart. and she's going to be an amazing parent, i hope she doesn't get written out of the story of the next game bc of how hard it is to animate 3d babies. but she does deserve some fuckin peace and rest lmfao

One reason I will forever love Aloy is because even though she's learned the scientific and therefore "real" reason behind the way their world works, she never really tries to discredit the way one tribe or another talks or believed things.

She meets Zo and although Zo is kind of hostile to this newcomer who isn't following their directions for her to rest and heal and immediately refers to one of their landgods as an it, Aloy respects that to the Utaru "Re" is a "she" and that she is their landgod and immediately offers to help put Re at ease by finding what's wrong with her her and fixing it.

She just goes with the flow no matter who she meets, accepts the way this new tribe thinks, and continues on in her adventures while being respectful of the culture in the other tribes, including the Nora despite growing up an outcast.

I love the little red haired bitch so much.

It's basically about Nanami Momozono who got kicked out of her apartment since her deadbeat dad gambled all their money and skipped town and she helped a guy out then became the owner of the local shrine and became the newly appointed landgod or "Tochigami"

the anime only had 2 seasons and a few OVAs that shows the ending but!! If you also read the manga then my god it has the best story and reading the ending made me bawl my eyes out

omg... what if i brought back my bokuaka Kamisama hajimemashita au.... from ages past that ive actually... never shared w anyone bc it was gonna be a collab BUT things fell through and now i think the blog is inactive :( but i think six/seven years means its fair game again!!!

if you dont know about kamisama (or okami kiss, i think is the localized title) its about a girl who is abandoned by her deadbeat father and is given the powers of a landgod by a god who is trying to escape responsibility trying to encourage his familiar to grow. his familiar being a yokai with a bad reputation who needed the landgod to save him. but now landgod is replaced by girl and ahh its like an enemies to lover romcom

but i just like thinking about bokuto stumbling across the power of a god and asking akaashi if he can still play volleyball as a god and akaashi is soooo very concerned but then he sees how bokuto puts 120% into everything he does (being a god and volleyball, studying doesn't count) and how his natural charisma really helps him shine as a landgod and hes like "im going to make you the greatest god there ever was"

and i think akaashi probably has a dark past or smth, maybe tragic, at least, and so they are really a rag tag group but together they are so so so so cool and powerful

His name is Tomoe,a fox yokai.The LandGod is girl named Nanami, a high schooler. It’s hurts a lot to see someone you like who doesn’t even care about you.

I been trying.Since I met him I been trying,it just doesn’t work,he doesn’t want me.Tomoe only cares so much about Nanami He always takes care of her…everyone does.

Everyone will love Nanami eventually.Boys and girls at school ,other yokai,and her two best friends.With me? Nobody notice me nor do they want to,I’m not that important to every else’s lives.

“Hey,who’s that kid sitting over there?” A boy in my class asked to his friend during lunch

“Who cares.They are the loner and why try to worry about them.” His friend reply.

It’s painful, but you get use to it.I always wonder what it would be like to have Tomoe to look at me with love I his eyes.He like a cat,when his pupil are big; that means he really likes something,like Nanami If his pupil are sharp like daggers; that means he doesn’t like something or even hate it,like me.

I always just been on the sideline of their adventures.I saw the love between them, without the both of the them realizing it themselves.

Nanami gets very jealous when people show affection to Tomoe and she does not like it when I do it.Not that he would care either way. But it was never her right to do that!! Like-like she own him.

I didn’t help that Tomoe only saw her and not me.He saved her first over me.All the TIME!!! That hurts, like no other. He would save you if Nanami said so or he would do it to need my help to save her!!! I mean…how ridiculous is that! I- I mean…it-it’s like he would kill me just to save her but would never do it the other way around for me!!!!

I probably sound really selfish and dumb right now,but how could I not.I understand him.Give him space and everything,but he doesn’t even treat me as a friend,he treats me as a stranger more than anything.Th-that can hurt people whom have help someone so much,but gets their back turned on them!!!

But truly,how can I compare to her? Her hair flows i. The wind like soft silk,Her eyes are deeper than chocolate,her face is Beautiful than the goodness of Beauty herself.I’m nothing as close to how amazing she is, of course Tomoe would only love her.Everyone loves her.He did wait 500 years for her…not me.

No matter what I can’t change anything about this.He chose her from the very beginning,I didn’t stand a chance.I never will….

y’all I’m bout to talk about horizon forbidden west because I have things to SAY

spoilers ahead so don’t keep reading

my god. I just finished this game. And man. Oh man am I emotional. id firstly like to shout out to guerilla games for making a sequel that tops the awesomeness of the original. this has genuinley been one of my favorite games ever and I am PRAYIN TO THE LORD that they make another (although it’s pretty implied they are going to). imma just make a list of my most favorite things

So many details went into making aloy more human. Her character arch??? Flawless. Her dialogue on side quests??? Amazing. I think I fell in love with her every time she spoke

The world building??? Holy cow??? Every single tribe in this game is so UNIQUE and crazy. Literally had the best time just running around.

So many emotional moments that made you truly feel for the characters. i started tearing up on the side quest where the landgods started singing again. idk it just hurt man

POSSIBLE ALOY X EREND??? i know it just seems to be hinted at, and I apologize to the aloy X kotallo shippers(which I understand) but erend is my man. My brother. My homie.

did I mention the character development,?? For every character??? And every single thing made sense??? None of it was out of place??? I’m gonna kiss guerillas writers

okay hot take:

erend should not have been in forbidden west.

LOTS OF FW SPOILERS

he was a big fan favorite in the first game, and that seems to be why he was in this one, but why? besides fan favorite, what purpose did he serve in the story?

zo and kotallo both act as liaison characters for their tribes, and are both big parts of the story as a result. zo helps aloy and has a quest line about saving the utaru. kotallo does even more: he’s a huge part of the main story, and keeps returning to the tenekth plot even after he’s joined the base. zo’s role in the plot is a little less blatant, but she and aloy have several non-optional scenes together, gets a great quest with the landgods, and also weaves about eighty rugs for the base while you’re away: her presence in the game is huge, even if she’s doing “less” than kotallo.

alva comes much later, but she also clearly fills a role as quen liaison. in the base, she also falls into a niche of “tech nerd,” playing a crucial if off-screen role in the final battle when she hacks the zeniths.

beta is her own can of worms, but she forms a lot of the heart of the plot: her growth, her and aloy’s relationship, her connection to the zeniths.

then we have varl, who like erend is a returning character. i always adored him, but he was never the fan favorite that erend was i think it’s safe to say. but he’s the most important secondary character in the entire game. he shows up for the tutorial. he follows aloy across america. he becomes not just a helper npc, but someone she confides in and opens up to about her grief and fears and frustrations. in the base, aloy checks up on everyone, but to varl she says things like “take care of everyone for me;” he is her lieutenant. he is the one who reaches out to everyone else in the base, who brings erend and tries to bring talanah on board, who reaches out to beta and kotallo — he is the heart of the team.

so what does erend do? what purpose does he serve? how does he help the base, either figuratively (making so many rugs) or literally (studying, reaching out to people)? what does he do for the plot? when he, aloy, and varl go on a mission, aloy ditches him outside and goes with varl at the first chance. he has the sons of prometheus plot, but… frankly that wasn’t well handled, even more optional than the other character plots (zo will ask aloy for help; you don’t even find out about the sons unless you clear a couple of bases first), not to mention being just a rehash of dervhal.

there’s also the slightly awkward issue that after the last game made such a big deal about erend needing to step up and be captain and killed ersa to force him to, he… ditches his actual job and duties to hang out with team base for the entire game. they could have at least phrased it like “actually avad asked me to do this,” but no, erend makes it pretty clear he hates the responsibility of being captain and is glad to leave. (and like. this is the historical politics nerd in me talking. but the vanguard is not a small thing. in asoiaf terms, he’s head of the kings guard. he’s head of the secret service. he’s got authority over the soldiers of meridian. he’s tasked with incredibly important diplomatic missions on avad’s behalf — to the sacred lands in the first game, to probably escort fashav back in this one — and he just. fucks off. like hell, make erend act as a liaison in this game! he works for the carja and everyone in the west has big complicated carja feelings, have him try to do his envoy duties and work on that! the utaru are starving to death but have rejected carja trade and food, maybe he could have worked on that situation, even just off screen!)

would the game be any different if erend wasn’t in the base? sure, the side quests would change a little. someone else would need to carry the cannon in the last fight. erend and zo have some very nice bonding moments in the end of the game, and strike is an amazing minigame, but erend really only seems to be in the game because the writers knew the fans liked him, and didn’t do a good job justifying his presence past that.

if erend had been in the daunt doing his thing, if he and aloy had had a scene where he got to explain his hurt feelings and they had a nice moment, if he then went back to meridian and did his job… i don’t know. i think he would have come off a lot better. he would have been actually doing something of use, for one, instead of throwing off his job and responsibilities to hang out in a base and feel insecure.
