We got echidna Echyd'nya boobies, lined to unlined art on the same page, weird anatomy, inconsistent shading, and stock photo backgrounds.

the differences between Silver and Trunks made me realize that Archie Silver is different because he has the Trunks traits that canon Silver doesn’t have. he’s shy and polite like Trunks instead of blunt/straightforward and rude like canon Silver 

that makes him a really different character from canon Silver since he’s not hotblooded, emotionally unregulated, a crashout, a punk ass, a feral fighter or an ultra honest person with no filter. just look at how they both deal with their friends messing with them

but it works for him. Archie Silver is cool and likable in his own way. he really feels like Trunks more than canon Silver does while having his own charm too

they do try to make him impulsive like canon Silver a couple times but it doesn’t work imo because Archie Silver isn’t hotblooded and emotionally unregulated like canon Silver so he’s just impulsive for no reason

Archie Silver just needed the cautious/considerate/pragmatic part of Trunks that set him apart from the other Z Fighters and made him so likable in DBZ (Trunks got sick of other characters shi a lot). he’s sorta like that a couple times in Sonic Universe but it should have been a more core thing for him like it was for Trunks

so Archie Silver doesn’t have Henery Hawkism like canon Silver but he still works as a more full on younger Trunks expie. serious but still young and kinda awkward. if they ever pulled a Kid Trunks and gave us a second version of Silver i’d be okay with him being like Archie Silver

The next fan product I review will be me eagerly waiting for my signed copy of The Lara Su Chronicles Beginnings. I can’t wait to share all the nitty gritty details for the two people who will actually end up reading my review. 😂

But I want those details documented somewhere for those who fairly do not want to give Penders money. But also I can totally see this as something that becomes lost media.

I’ve seen spoilers and boy howdy… I am excited let me tell you. At one point I genuinely thought this was never going to come out in a Yandere Simulator way. Where he just works on it for his whole life and then nothing. Because I want to say he announced this when I was in high school?

I just Googled it. It was in 2011 when he announced he started working on it. Almost 14 years. I was a Junior in high school at that point. So while it is a mess, and it’s… Penders…, I’m just surprised we got a product at all. Which genuinely is a bit exciting to see in a weird way.

I picked up a copy because… I’m too curious not to. I gotta read it. It’s Sonic related. And my goal is to read all side or relevant material related to the franchise. This is juicy side material. Cannot be skipped for me.

Volume 2 will be in 2039. 🤪

Lara-su and Sadie Acorn reunite after the defeat of Tikhaos. It goes about as well as can be expected🤣by “king,” Sadie is referring to her father, Shadow.

Thy were childhood best friends who drifted apart when Lara-su’s memories of the previous M:25YL timeline started returning. Sadie, fed up with her father’s Tyranny and her Mother’s passive methods of dealing with him, runs away as a teen. She hopes to find some way to combat the king’s reign herself.

Sketchbook entry featuring an attempt at redesigning Ken Penders' Lara-Su of The Lara-Su Chronicles. Here, I tried to make her look more like a cross between animal and alien. I really don't like the uncanny valley design choices Penders has made in trying to make his characters from Archie original, and to me, some of the choices just don't make sense. I was a little limited marker-wise when it came to colors, but I like the some of the effect I was able to achieve with what I had. I do feel like I should've made her hair more pink-ish than red, though.

Here's a Lara-su doing Chaos Finger Guns. I actually made this a while ago and just took a while to get around to taking pictures to post. I thought Lara-Su would be a good choice to try out my new metallic inks, since the colors I have are similar to hers. I also used watercolor in some places

I am way behind on the party with this one, but I just released my review of The Lara-Su Chronicles: Beginnings, the only comic that I’ve needed to take Tylenol after reading. 

If you’re looking for a detailed rundown of Ken’s legal issues this isn’t the video for you (though I’ve got a good one linked in the comments below, also @thankskenpenders has a lot of good info!) but if you want to watch someone have an aneurysm over his constant re-use of his own art then you’re in for a treat. Bear in mind that this book took 10 years to create and at the end of the day it was only 30 pages of new material tacked onto reprints of an existing comic, so I think the amount of copy-pasted faces and poses is frankly unacceptable. I struggle to explain the story because frankly I’m not sure what is going on. I don’t think anyone else knows what’s going on. 

I do clown on Ken quite a bit but I had some positives to say about the book also. I’m neither a Ken Penders hater nor a Ken Penders stan, just some weirdo on the internet who loves bad art!

i think Silver’s Tails character could be like Skye Prower from the Archie good future

Skye is shy(heh), polite, timid, skittish, clumsy and really cute. i think this is the perfect personality for a kid that looks up to Silver to have since Silver is very blunt, rowdy and direct. Silver bounces really well off introverted people(Blaze, Shadow, Whisper) so his sidekick being extra shy is a good foil to his straightforwardness and it’s something the kid characters in the games don’t really have yet(Tails and Kit are kinda shy but nowhere near Skye). it’s also perfect to bounce off Marine(since Silver’s little buddy would absolutely NEED to be pals with Blaze’s) and activate the paternal part of Silver we see sometimes(Silver is most powerful when he protects something after all)

Skye was not as good an inventor as Tails and flies backwards(he spins his body instead of his tails which makes him ricochet and get dizzy) which fits with how Silver doesn’t run as fast as other hedgehogs. they would have to have some kind of power like Silver to compensate though. one that could even work with Silver’s PK

it can’t be Skye himself for a lot of reasons but Silver’s Tails character could easily be a kid from the future that’s like everything i just talked about(also make them an arctic fox)

i think they could have an arc similar to Sonic/Tails and Blaze/Marine in Rush Adventure combined. like the start looking up to Silver because he saves them from bullies or something but kinda tests his patience when they go on an actual adventure before they really prove themselves like Marine did with Blaze in Sonic Rush Adventure

I preordered the Lara-Su Chronicles.

To say I bought it as a hate-read would be entirely incorrect. But I won’t obscure the fact that I don’t like Penders. I think this dude is an asshole. The real best way to put it would be… genuine curiosity based on my nostalgia for the original comics. And while I think he’s an asshole, I don’t hate him. Both can exist I think.

I want to see how he connects it to Archie. I want it for archive purposes, even if it isn’t good. I want to see what he actually does with this thing and these characters. Is it still a Sonic comic? He keeps connecting it to the Sonic comics. So maybe. Penders also just makes weird decisions both artistically and writing wise. I kinda want to see how that pans out in a not patronizing way. I want to see what he changes about characters and lore. Has his writing style changed now that he’s not under as many restrictions? He’s free to write what he wants in this setting. That’s going to be fascinating! And I’m not even expecting to hate it. I very much expect it to be a meh nothing experience. But I want to know for sure. In fact I am hoping this experience is as bizarre as it looks. For better or worse.

And if it’s good I’ll be as honest about that as I am the bad.

And if I feel that way why would I buy it all? Simple. I’m the lore lady. The “I’ve read it all” lady. I like being an archivist for Sonic works and this applies. I want to read everything both obscure and not. Hell, I’ll buy stuff just for the flavor text. (Like those Amy tarot cards coming up.) And in my time with “fan” works, stuff like this gets pricey later because there aren’t typically reprints. If I’m wrong that’s okay. And if I’m right then… that’s okay too. Ha ha.

But expect several reviews when this thing finally ships to my doorstep. I’ll cover it all so you can enjoy it by proxy.
