you CAN have the hardest time reading and still enjoy it. sometimes you just gotta scratch the itch of holding a book and flipping through pages and (slowly) learning cool things

obsessed with my neighbor who has their living room walls covered with a large original swe cinema mulholland dr. poster + various fashion prints, a slightly sloppily handmade gigantic floor to ceiling corner bookcase, and a 1m in diameter white rice paper pendant light.

From the book Organizing Solutions for People with ADHD:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Putting a coat on the back of a chair by the door is fine, but if you prefer, use coat hooks and a large catch-all basket for dropping keys, hats, gloves.
Small bookcase end-table next to the couch to store craft projects, books, and other things being worked on for easy access.
Add a storage unit near the dining room table to transition between eating and working there.
Daily toiletry items should be stored in a basket that you can move easily
Extra toiletries and medicine cabinet items go in open shelf/basket storage so they can be seen and used easily. If items no longer fit, purge the excess. Don't obscure the view!
If you disrobe in the bathroom, place a tall hamper in there.
Keep a set of cleaning supplies in each bathroom

Edit: I also have this post on budgeting with ADHD + feel free to check my tags, coz I am trying to remember to tag as needed for this stuff. :)

Every time I look up how-to videos about how to do some kind of household task, they lie about how simple it is. ...And I always fall for it.
They always demonstrate doing the task when it's not needed, or else they've already done all the work and just film going through the motions. They don't mention how to deal with any of the things that you need to deal with in real life while doing the task.
When my dad had wanted to change out a bathroom sink fixture: Oh, the directions are really simple, I'll do it for you. I just need to use a wrench to unscrew this piece on the old sink and... Wait, why is this melted together. No wait, wait, I can do it, just... wait. Wait. Just hang on, I can do it, wait. (My dad called a plumber to do the entire job just because I couldn't unscrew one thing. ...The plumber also had a fancy tool for unscrewing stuff like that.)
When the bathtub faucet got stuck after the water froze (I think debris got lodged in it): Oh, so they don't even make separate parts for these things, it's all one single piece that you slide into the water pipe (well, disappointing I can't take it apart and clean it, but whatever).
The videos I found showed how you just need to take out the old tube from the water pipe and slide in the new one. And if you don't have any sink grease you can just rub a little soap on it.
...It took me a really long time to get the old tube out. I left blood smears on the wall from the long struggle. ...Then, after replacing it, it leaked. So I bought the special grease and took the tube out and greased it good and put it back in, and it still leaked. I thought maybe I needed the outdated more-expensive model; got it, greased it, put it in ...and it still leaked.
Last week I realized how dirty the edges of the bathtub were getting, from moisture getting behind the caulking around the tub for years, and I looked up how to remove old caulking. The video showed how simple and easy it was. The guy used a box cutter to effortlessly trace along the top and bottom of the old caulking to 'break the seal', and it came right off. He also mentioned about being very careful and delicate with the blade so you won't scrape the tub.
...Fast-forward to me stabbing at the tub with a brand new box cutter (my old one got busted a few years ago, and I didn't want to keep using my x-acto art knife for everything), wondering whether the previous owners had used cement instead of caulking.
I look up about old caulking (which apparently can feel like cement if it's old). I see something about rubbing alcohol being able to soften it up. I try it and I think it might've helped very slightly. I then pour a bunch around the tub and scrub it with a toothbrush. It does help. ...I break the tip off the box cutter while scraping with it. Oh well, it still works. ...I notice the tub feels a little rough in places. ...I wonder if alcohol can eat the finish off of bathtubs. I decide to just clean up the mess and maybe just caulk on top of the remainder of the old caulking despite it not being recommended. I decide not to mess with the other half of the tub.
