Latina Representation

In the past decades there are still Latinas emerging themselves into untapped waters. Just like Soto Mayor who was the first to represent the Latino community by being first Latina to serve in the justice of supreme court.

The Latina community is uniting and sharing our true colors: we are strong, intelligent, powerful, and hardworking. Just like Samantha Marquez. At 12 years old, Marquez developed Celloidosomes, a hallo structure of cells. She has been working with micro-liber tissues for liver reconstruction using Celloidosomes. At just 17 she has already accomplished seven patents under her belt.

Marquez shares, "Something that I'd like to continue to do is talk about the role that we as Hispanics in the community have in providing good role models for the youth of today  and the youth of tomorrow.  I don't think its right that Hispanics are always represented in the movies as drug dealers and bad guys.  That's not what we are."

Samantha completed a research internship at Virginia Commonwealth University's School of Life Science Engineering in 2009. Today continues to develop research and discover new theories she's an inspiration for Latinas to strive for success, and maybe even be the first human in general to achieve something.

It's #LatinoConservationWeek!! I've always had a love for the outdoors, particularly the coast & ocean...so grateful to be pursuing & expanding this with a career in wildlife biology/management, conservation, & ecology! (📸: video still by Claudio Velasquez Rojas) 2️⃣ French ecologist Marie Pascal-Colace & I conducting a “Manipulated Disturbance Trial” on a plover nest, to determine the “Flight Initiation Distance”…fancy science-speak for walking toward a plover sitting on a nest, & measuring how far away a parent bird does certain things, like notice us, stand up, bury the eggs, & run away…plus how long it takes them to go back once we’ve left the area.
