Imma throw this at ya though it’s outta nowhere but simply cause me an my sis have been making jokes about it.
When they change twitter to X it’s gonna be awkward when folk tell people to follow them.
When they change twitter to X ya ain’t gonna call it following anymore it’ll be called stalking.
When twitter changes to X ya won’t be tweeting anymore you’ll be crying.
When twitter changes to X you won’t be verified anymore you’ll be dumped.
When twitter changes to X things are gonna get awkward for a few reddit boards.
When twitter changes to X r/LatinoTwitter is gonna become r/LatinoX.
Elon is only changing Twitters name cause there wasn’t any other way to say he owned his X.
Elon changed twitters name to X because his families emerald mine dried up an he’s hoping for buried treasure.
When twitter changes to X we on tumblr can’t joke about checkmarks anymore it’ll just be x’s.
When twitter changes to X it won’t be the bird site anymore it’ll be Scott Pilgrim’s hell.
Disclaimer: My brain somehow filtered out the first line of your ask, because ADHD and or Dyslexia be like that some times,
My issues have been coming at me particularly hard lately, I'm skipping whole words when I'm typing them out, not sure what to do about it other than triple my proofreading efforts.
so I was thinking this was some kind of slam poetry instead of jokes, in retrospect the Scott Pilgrim thing should have given me pause, so I went in with this trying to come up with a serious answer.
Which I'm leaving because I learned some stuff I didn't already know and will assume others might do the same. ______________________________
Asprin is (or was) a trademarked name owned by the Bayer company, Jet Ski, Rollerblade, Jacuzzi, Band-Aid, Xerox, Jello, and just a ton of others are brands that have transcended to the level where their name is just what we call things.
People will still call Twitter Twitter, hasn't changed the domain name yet just the logo, and I doubt anyone but the musk fan club will be calling it "X" even if he does.
As for the family mine, pretty sure he's got nothing to do with that, believe he disavowed that part of his family even before getting going on PayPal.
You know I've never actually looked all that up tho, so I just did.
Tumblr media
His father was elected to the Pretoria City Council as a representative of the anti-apartheid Progressive Party and has said that his children shared their father's dislike of apartheid.
That's not something I've heard anyone ever say. Let's see some more about his dad, I've literally never bothered to look any of this up so it's all new information, confirming what I've seen people saying, or totally contradicting what I've seen people saying.
Tumblr media
In November 2022, Snopes debunked rumours linking the mine to slavery and apartheid, and linked to an article published in The New Yorker that referenced Musk's part ownership of the mine.
I bet snopes was unhappy about having to debunk the bit about slavery and apartheid there.
Also explains why this is new information to me, since nobody seems to want to give the man a fair shake, he's a tool and a douchebag but it would appear many of the other bits of info are false. ____________
all that aside, folks are still gonna call it twitter, the name is ingrained in our minds, why he's decided to change it is perplexing, at least I haven't heard a reason he may have one I dunno. ___________________________
Going back over the whole thing after reading about them being jokes makes this double funny, and slightly embarrassing on my part, you did forget a few additional bits of info.
It's becoming X (ask how I can remember a mid 90's trip hop group but spell cow wrong)
youtube
It's also gonna give it to ya (why isn't there a official, unedited version of the video dammit)
youtube
RIP DMX, you went hard from start to finish

The Lightning Dreamer: Cuba's Greatest Abolitionist
By: Margarita Engle
Opposing slavery in Cuba in the nineteenth century was dangerous. The most daring abolitionists were poets who veiled their work in metaphor. Of these, the boldest was Gertrudis Gómez de Avellaneda, nicknamed Tula. In passionate, accessible verses of her own, Engle evokes the voice of this book-loving feminist and abolitionist who bravely resisted an arranged marriage at the age of fourteen, and was ultimately courageous enough to fight against injustice. Historical notes, excerpts, and source notes round out this exceptional tribute. (Engle, 2015). In her first sets of poems, “Tula”, she speaks about escaping through books you can almost hear her desperateness to get away from who she is expected to be. She talks about being raised or forced to marry at a very young age and she feels that this is the age of dreams. When you are supposed to dream of who you want to be not forced to be. She is not allowed to think or read. She has to hide the books from her mother who feels as a mother what she is instilling is correct. She stares at the slaves through the bars on her windows and can honestly compare her life to theirs. I think she does escape literally through the books the nuns let her read.
I think growing up Latina, you are expected to live through certain milestones, Quinceñeras, school, college, then marriage then kids. They say if you’re not married by the age of thirty, “Vestiras Santos”. Your train will have passed. Sit up, don’t talk, “calladita te ves mas bonita’. It’s the opposite of who I was. Of what any woman should be. Who was the slave after all.
Definately a must read for all ages.

Hashtag Communities
The social media platform Twitter has given those that believed their voices were not being heard a platform to be heard, carry on discussions, and connect on any social issue.
In the form of hashtags, #blacklivesmatter, #blacktwitter, #latino, #latina, and #latinox online communities have grown.  A couple of examples of these communities are “Black Twitter” and "Latino Twitter." By using their respective hashtags, the communities can easily find conversations about their culture, social issues, and current events. The hashtags make finding and connecting with their communities easier. These communities are still a part of the original Twitter platform, but are referenced to those that use these hashtags.

The Kids for Cash Jail scam.  They even did this to white kids too.  Just think how many Black and Latinox as well have been and possibly still locked up because of this scheme.

Dreamers Written and illustrated by Yuyi Morales. Another Latinox book that I fell in love with! I am so grateful for the opportunity to have this book right now! The more I read this book the more connections I made with it. Other than the fact that it is called Dreamers during the time when Dreamers have been punished and have been resilient the book has a beautiful and strong message. There could not have been a more perfect time to have come across this book. I live in a small border town across from Coahuila, Mexico. I have ancestors that were immigrants I have friends that were and some that are. It was common growing up and it was common to see them grow, get educated and flourish.
I noticed something beautiful about the pictures or illustrations in this book, and it was the heart, all different hearts but also the sacred heart that is also used in Mexico to represent the heart of Mexico in beautiful and magical cities throughout. It caught my attention and even more so as I saw hearts throughout the story.  It’s a sign of strength as it is th strongest muscle in ur body but the love it holds and the adrenaline it provides for us to survive, in this case, as a single mother and the dream for a better life. The heart represents so much of that here.
Yuyi Morales tells a beautiful story not just about triumph but of education and reading and the doors and opportunities’ this library and all the information and stories it has, will lead you to! The vocabulary is amazing and powerful. The pictures show the journey and imply the significance of her journey, closely tied to her personal story. The language barriers are or were struggles but in life I learned that it was also a freedom and an advantage. Self-made and resilient these women prevail.
I cannot express in words how meaningful this book is now to me. I see immigrants cross daily and at times I see them die or hear about it every other day. Its not as beautiful as this book but for many it has been. For many the stories have been successes. I pray that one day it will be that way again and that we can bring some solution to the lives being lost everyday.
Morales, Y. (2018). Dreamers. Neal Porter Books.
