Warrior cats fandom, is Leafstar supposed to be a torbie? Her description sounds like it, but the only official design depicting her as one is her icon on the website family tree. It's also worth noting that silver tabbies are usually described as "silver-and-black tabbies" (which would mean she's cream with brown stripes if we apply the same logic), and she wasn't described with cream patches until Ravenpaw's Farewell (published ~6 years after SkyClan's Destiny)

Changing Skies Book One Brief Review

overall I am enjoying it!! It’s giving me broken code vibes (which it itself admits to) and I’m here for it because I liked that arc. Spoilers for changing skies book one the elder’s quest below.

So not much of an Elder’s Quest in this book called elder’s quest. As in, the two elder POVs take a quick walk together once. They actually don’t get the quest until the very end, when it is given to Tawneypelt by Bluestar (someone she really doesn’t have a connection to, it would have been better if it was Goldenflower). But it’s heavily implying that the clans will have to find a new home a la New Prophecy. And this is pretty heavy handed by the way Tawney and Crow keep referring to the great journey.

Speaking of Tawney and Crow. I guess they’re a thing now? Or at least a ship? One sided right now. But I have a bad feeling it may end up being the thing. Because as we all know every warriors arc needs to have some contrived romance plot for one of the main characters at least. Give us LeafxTawney you cowards!! They have good chemistry!!!

Speaking of Leafstar, or I guess I should say Leafdapple. They are finally using the test the leader policy. Sad that most of it was due to her eye sight going bad, but she was also making some not great decisions. I’m curious to see if they do go through with it, because we tactfully didn’t go back to her POV for the rest of the book. I also like how they handled Hawking this book, he was very respectful and supportive of Leafstar. Again, Leafstar is going to have as much if not more POV than Firestar. Also she’s the first main series leader POV we’ve had since the ginger lad himself. Again, give me LeafxTawney you cowards.

Finally Moonpaw. She’s just as weird as I hoped you silly little thing you. Yep, evil sister. Although not the sister she was combined with (like not her chimera half) but just a sister who died very young. But not in starclan or the dark forest. So maybe a ghost? Interested to see if Rootspring or Tree can see her. I’ve seen people call her Sunpaw or Daypaw which is cute. And with Bluestar’s warning….I’m wondering if this will be our first main series villain POV. Well ok Clearsky is a villain to me, so second main series villain POV. Or maybe an accidental villain. Anyway I love her and can’t wait. Oh also all the scenes with her and Jayfeather when he praised her were very cute.

I want to draw my original design for Moonpaw when her name was announce (White cat with a black half moon marking across her face), the one after her description was announced (orange and black with long orange fur and short black), and then after ready the book (same as above but looking slightly stressed and a bit more silly)

AU Ideas:

Honestly, I don't have a ton of AU ideas.

But in this AU, things go as normal until Sharpclaw starts doing the whole undermining-Leafstar's-leadership shit he pulls in SkyClan's Destiny (he made me so mad) (I kind of hate him), and as he tries to essentially guilt-trip Leafstar into forgiving him, Echosong steps up and puts a stop to it, berating him about his lack of respect for their leader.

She helps Leafstar stand up for herself, and they put him on a sort of deputy-probation until he can prove that he can support his leader's decisions and respect her as a person (cat?).

So anyways, she and Leafstar get together, and they're like... yknow what? we want babies. So they visit StarClan and demand that they grant Leafstar the ability to carry Echosong's kits via StarClan Magic™, and since it's just SkyClan StarClan, they agree- the more future SkyClan warriors the better SkyClan will be able to defend itself. Both Leafstar and Echosong have two X chromosomes, so it would be impossible for them to have two XY babies even with magic, so let's just say that StarClan gave both kittens a Y chromosome. Or something.

So Leafstar gives birth to two kittens, Flamekit and Badgerkit. Flamekit is named in honor of Firestar, and Badgerkit is named for his markings reminiscent of the white stripes on a badger. Unfortunately, when the boys are about 2 moons old, a rodent-borne disease passes through SkyClan, and Badgerkit doesn't make it.

Flamekit becomes Flamepaw, mentored by Plumwillow, grows into an anxious but resilient young cat, and is given his warrior name early- Flamefeather.

Changing Skies Protags!

Three different flavors of tortie gals!

Leafstar and Tawnypelt band together to fix their connection to Starclan. Realizing that nothing gets done without Thunderclan and/or an apprentice involved, they pick the special-est Thunderclan apprentice around to join them. They both take care of the serious stuff, while Moonpaw thinks she's fulfilling her destiny in taking their smaller tasks.

Leafstar looks like a brown/white tabby on first glance, but actually has the most colors on her. Heavily based on the comic and super edition designs.

Tawnypelt gets her black pelt from her grandma (Leopardfoot), and her golden (dilute orange) from her mom (Goldenflower). I was sad to take her half/half design from previous iterations, but wanted to make her distinct in this lineup.

And Moonpaw! I have no idea what her parents look like, so her design is wholely original. I wanted to give her two coats more variation- she would have to be a chimera to be smoke/tabby.

Redesigns! Yay! This batch is of Leafstar and her family, plus Echosong. When I saw that Leafstar was one of the protagonists for The Elder's Quest arc, I wanted to go back and touch up her design. And that led to doing everyone else's also lol. For Leafstar, I really liked her first design here, so I kept most of it, like 90%, just made some of the markings simpler, easier to draw. Also I changed the colors slightly. Billystorm is pretty much the same as well, again changed the colors and made the red on the side of his face curve downward. Also redid the body shape, this one is more what I had intended before, just did it better here. Harrybrook got a different fur shape on his head, and a much lighter light color. Firefern is slightly more orange, added the flame mohawk and lighter flame pattern on her tail. Also extended the neck marking. Stormheart I darkened the orange, added a neckline to share with her sister and mother, made the other paw grey, and changed the face marking to look a bit more like Billystorm. Then Echosong. Her colors changed, and her face markings got completely redone, but her body is mostly the same. Originally she was more blue, like the old version, but I worried she looked too much like Feathertail, so I made her more warm-toned.

For character interactions, what do Dovewing and Leafstar think of each other?

Dovewing and Leafdapple's relationship is... complicated. Dovewing respects Leafdapple as a leader, but did not agree with many of her decisions while they were being attacked by Darktail and his rogues, the rats, etc.

Dovewing was always fascinated by the stories the older cats told about other clans in a far off forest. She could hear them, when she tried hard enough, and never understood why the clan didn't go to find them. Leafdapple always insisted that they were fine at the gorge, Dove must be hearing things, etc. This, of course, rubbed Dovewing the wrong way.

Dovewing believed that they should have left the gorge long before they did. Leafdapple tried to save their home for far longer than Dovewing, and several other SkyClan cats, were okay with. Cats were dying and they wanted to get out of there. Dovewing still harbors resentment over that.

But at the same time, Dovewing respects Leafdapple's calm leadership style and fierce loyalty to her cats. Dovewing appreciates that Leafdapple eventually gave in and allowed Dovewing to lead the clan to the lake (although again, she holds some resentment for it taking so long for Leafdapple to come around).

Once they arrive at the lake, their relationship becomes more amicable. Leafdapple apologizes for not believing Dovewing earlier, and Dovewing accepts that Leafdapple believed she was doing the right thing for her cats. Dove is still not 100% good with Leaf, but she is not as angry as she once was.

Leaf supports Dove when she leaves SkyClan to be with her mate, Goldenheart, in ShadowClan. She is sad to see her go, but understands that Dovewing is a restless soul that could never be restrained.
