Yesterday I shoved a doodle with my foot.

I am extremely anti confrontational. I honestly wish that would change. I was hiking with Aayla and Rebel down a local trail when I saw two people and a doodle running off leash about 50' in front of them.

This trail system is on leash. (don't get me wrong I'm not a law abiding citizen with this, but Aayla gets leashed when I see other people, she never approaches people or animals) this day I had Aayla on a long line for some recording purposes.

Dog spots us and takes off full speed at us. I yell for them to call their dog back, that I had a cat. They called the dog's name once, which it didn't even pause.

I tell Aayla to go say hello so I have enough time to try and pry Rebel out of the tree she scrambled up and put her in the backpack. The doodle starts barking a bunch at us. Aayla is acting as a great barrier for the dog to us. People are still about 100' away.

Once Rebel was secure I pulled Aayla in, who is now too ramped up to really be able to focus on me from the dog yapping and darting at around us. I give a let's go command and Aayla follows me to start trying to get distance.

Finally ran into the people and just managed to glare at them when I wanted to chew them out. They didn't say a word either to me.

Their dog followed us, continuing to bark. So I finally turned gave it a shove with my foot (it was trying to jump on Aayla) and gave my growliest "get!" And swung Aayla's leash in it's direction.

People finally came running over to get their dog.

I just powered on walking. It took one more "get" and leash swing to send the dog off.

If you can't control your dog leash the damn thing.

I want to buy and use shield spray but honestly I feel like I would scare Rebel even more. She recovers fast from dog interactions but I think the noise would cause more fear that she wouldn't recover from. Conditioning her to the noise could be hard.

Leash swinging and smacking the ground is probably what I'll resort to. I've been able to defend Aayla from some aggressive dogs with it before. Any dogs that don't respond to that probably wouldn't respond to shield spray either.
