If looks could kill, you were certain that both you and Jungshin would have killed one another within seconds of realizing you had been assigned to the same mission. Why?
Well, you can blame the fiery burn of romance mixed with the passionate endeavors to complete every single mission you’d been assigned over the years.
Yet there you were, in the middle of a busy cafe at lunch, staring at one another while you listened to the mission debrief that was being delivered in code. To any normal passerby it would’ve looked like a group of old friends catching up during a typical lunch break. The three of you knew better though. The words leaving your handlers mouth were being unconsciously filtered by your brain one after another, decoding the information, making you more infuriated by the second.
You two have been assigned a mission where you’ll need to pose as a family. We’ve already made arrangements for an orphan to be placed into your care for the duration of the mission. A child is essential in carrying out this mission effectively. That child, Marie, will be your in with your target. Get her to befriend Jacob Ford’s son, Ivan, and you’ll be in. Easy to take the old man out then.
Just when you thought the organization couldn’t get anymore reckless with their stupid mission ideas and assignments, they go and drag an innocent child into this for no good reason other than for the purpose of simplifying a mission - something you already guessed was going to hit the fan no matter which child they gave the two of you.
“Same time next month to catch up on everything?” the handler stated rather than questioning. “I can’t wait to meet the little one then. I heard through the grapevine that she’s been enrolled into one of the best institutions in the city. Shouldn’t be shocking considering you two are her parents.”
You gave a tight lipped smile at the messenger as your eye twitched. If you could shoot the messenger without any repercussions you would have the moment their mouth had opened and began spewing this madness.
“Yes…” you dragged out. “She’s quite the intellect at such a young age.”
“3pm on the corner of Welch and Grant on the 23rd of May then?” they offered.
Welch and Grant 3pm today. You’ll pick up the child then.
“Of course. We’ll all make our way here together,” Jungshin offered, an equally forced smile on his face. “Come on then Dear. We should get going if we want to make sure the house is ready for when…”
“Marie,” you finished, remembering the little girl’s name you’d decoded earlier. “For when Marie gets home this afternoon. You’re right.”
Imminent death was starting to sound like a better alternative to this little game of house you were now expected to play with your former lover. Who would die first is the question.

“Mr. and Mrs. …” the headmistress began, poking her salt and peppered head out of the office doorway. “Smith…” she eyed the two of you furrowing her brows as she took the two of you in. “Right this way. Marie is waiting in my main office.”
Two days.
This girl had been in your care for two whole days and was already fucked up by your horrible parenting skills. 
You do suppose being an orphan and having been thrown into a “family” who was clearly less than normal wasn’t helping with any part of the adjustment period. Although, neither of you had expected to get called into the academy so soon after having stated your mission under the pretenses of violence inflicted by the little girl who was sitting in the corner of the room with tear streaks on her cheeks. She didn’t even look like she was capable of hurting a spider much less another living person.
Correction. She wasn’t capable of hurting a spider. She had burst into tears when you’d demanded Jungshin kill the arachnid that had crawled out from behind the bookshelf that you’d be placing some generic photoshopped pictures on to make the apartment fit the role of a warm and lovely family home it needed to play.
You quite frankly didn’t believe that it was Marie sitting in that chair. It couldn’t be….although you had to admit two days to know a child was not enough time. It would never be enough time.
“Were there any other students involved in the altercations?” Jungshin asked as he too spared a look at the small girl, more than likely also confused by the urgent call from the academy to your landline.
“Yes, Mr. Ivan Ford,” the headmistress replied, folding her hands on the desk as she took a seat. “Mr. Ford’s father is a very high standing official in the government. Your daughter, as I explained briefly over the phone, had a physical altercation with the boy and actually broke his nose.”
You swore you wanted to puke right then and there upon hearing the name of the boy your “daughter” had punched. Jungshin clearly shared the same sentiment given the look in his eyes as he heard the words coming from the old woman in front of her. Two days in and this mission was already going straight to the gates of hell with a priority entrance ticket.
“She’ll be serving an in school suspension due to the…circumstances around the incident, as will Mr. Ford. But we do need to send her home for the rest of the day.”
You took in a deep breath, nodding in understanding as you looked at Marie, trying to meet her gaze. It was going to be an interesting evening.

Jungshin walked out of Marie’s bedroom, closing the door gently.
“She thinks we’re mad at her and are going to send her back,” he said without being prompted.
As soon as you had arrived back home, Marie had burst into tears apologizing as best as her six year old self knew how - something which had thrown you and Jungshin for a loop. Neither of you had known how to react when it first happened and she had run into her room after stuttering out that she had only punched the boy because he’d hurt her friend. While that made you feel a tad bit better, you both knew it hadn’t been the right call on her part. Jungshin had offered to take the first step to talk to her about it while you tried to clear your head.
“Is it possible for a six year old to get attached so quickly to two strangers?” you asked, sitting down on the couch after drinking a glass of water. 
“To you probably,” he murmured. “You’re easy to get attached to…”
There was no denying the sudden tension that came in the aftermath of his comment. It would be easy to say something kind and lighthearted, but somewhere within you there was a boiling rage filling you. 
“Considering it was something I once wanted and was willing to leave this life for, I’d hope I’d at least be able to do something right for her…” as of two days ago, you wanted to add.
“I wanted that too,” he whispered, barely audible to himself, much less to you.
“What was that?”
Jungshin looked from the floor, “I wanted that too. A long time ago. And I think a part of me still wants that. Still wants you. You’re the one I’ve always wanted.”
Your breath hitched at his words. This certainly wasn’t what you were expecting two days into this mission, or ever if you were being truly honest.
“Do you really mean that?” you asked. “Are you sure this time around? Because I swear to every superior being, Lee Jungshin, that if I’m burned again, I will personally send you on a one way trip to the devil himself.”
“I do?”
You heard the hesitation in his voice as he answered your question.
But that didn’t mean it couldn’t change. That you two couldn’t change. That this fake family…could one day…become a reality.
At least you hoped it could.

All this study had led to a full-time job and it was simply one chapter closing to move into the next.
Still, you couldn’t help the sentimental mood that washed over you.
Wandering aimlessly around the campus you could call a second home by this point in your life, you somehow found yourself climbing up the stairs to the library that stood in the middle of the university. You couldn’t fathom a guess of how many times in your education that you had thumped up and down these stairs. And now it would be your last time.
Your feet lingered on the last step into the building before you took a deep breath, walking through the entrance doors.
This place had never changed. It was the constant to your student life, the hub of all information. Whilst the books were rearranged and the faces behind the service counters might have differed, the feel never shifted. You looked towards your favourite table in the main lobby of the library, your go-to whenever you needed to stop in to study. You had spent many hours at that table, discovering new worlds and facts that had led you to this point.
Taking a seat in the chair you always picked out, you smiled, placing your hands on the tabletop. You would have no need to come rushing over here with a stack of books and laptop in tow, your frazzled state calming once deeply settled into a book. You wouldn’t need to worry about requesting texts that were already loaned out and battling it out for the high demand ones anymore. In fact, you looked over to the department that you loathed and equally loved. Getting up, you approached the section, stepping down an aisle and then stopped when you turned a corner, your eyes soaking in the tall man leaning against the shelf perusing a book.
“Took you long enough,” he said, not lifting his eyes from the text, though you saw the way his lips curled up. “I thought you’d forget all about me in the throes of your internalisation.”
“What am I internalising?” you asked and Jungshin snapped the book shut, shooting you a warm smile. You slipped into his ready embrace, burying in deeply.
It was funny; the reason you hated and loved this section was all because of Lee Jungshin. He had stolen your book and your heart within this small area. When you thought back to that moment in time, you truly wondered how you had ended up like this now. It had been a whirlwind of a romance, something that started within this university.
And although you were certain it wouldn’t ever end, you were a little on edge thinking about the outside world. When you both moved into your careers, would you find yourselves separating slowly? Despite now living together, could things change without the confines of this little campus and daily study sessions in the library?
You sighed, you were just being foolish.
Still, it was easy to have that doubt, only because all you had been a history student for the entirety of your relationship. You weren’t going to be students for much longer, technically you no longer were with all your requirements handed in for marking. And once you graduated, that would end your time here for good.
You buried in deeper, hoping it would help you hold onto Jungshin forever.
He chuckled against you, his lips brushing over the top of your head. “You know, even if I can’t read your mind, I know what you’re thinking.”
“Then you can read my mind,” you mumbled from within his embrace that tightened slightly. You eventually lifted your head away from his chest and Jungshin reached to wipe away the tears you hadn’t even felt yourself shed. “We’re going to be fine.”
“Of course we are.” Jungshin leaned down to kiss you softly before giving your upper arms a gentle rub. “Do you want to leave?”
“Five more minutes,” you bargained and he nodded, taking you back within his arms. You inhaled deeply, stabilising your emotions with the scent of his cologne you loved so much. When you felt the time had passed, you stepped back; taking his hand with a smile and the pair of you left the library and all the books you had learned from behind.

You hadn’t ended up back home after your departure. Jungshin had driven up into the hills, taking you on a scenic drive that you enjoyed a lot. It wasn’t quite yet dark out, the dusky hues in the sky casting their final light on all things below. By the time the car came to a stop, you had been lulled into contentment.
Jungshin grinned over at you and gestured to get out of the car. You did as you were instructed, coming around to his side of the vehicle and taking his hand as he pulled out a blanket from the back seat. You looked up at him. “It’s too early to stargaze.”
“Really? Then what are you? A meteorite instead?”
You rolled your eyes. “Not funny.”
“Let’s end today doing something we did the first time we went on a date, hm?” Jungshin offered and you immediately stopped scowling, chewing your lip in anticipation. On your first date, Jungshin had brought you to this spot, telling you it was his favourite place. And it had become yours as well, a place where all the stresses of the world back down in the city couldn’t reach to. You always felt so free up here.
It felt fitting with the change in your lives now to come up here.
After getting settled on the blanket and into Jungshin’s side, you both fell silent for some time comfortably. The thing you loved about him was that as much as you sought out his attention, he equally respected your need for quiet time. He was much the same as you, and despite being together, there was something intrinsically beautiful that you could shut him out and think for yourself without offending him by doing so.
This, however, meant you startled when he spoke after some time. “Y/N, the stars are almost up.”
“Really? Hm, let me see if I can find a constellation from here.”
“You always try for the impossible. The naked eye can’t see them at this time of night.”
“Leave me to my wishes, Jungshin. One day I’ll prove I’m talented at this!” you retorted and with a chuckle, he left you to it. You were avidly searching the skies when something came into your view, causing your eyes to go unfocused momentarily.
“Look, I found something,” he breathed and you gasped at the ring he held up. “I don’t think it’s a constellation though.”
“Wh-what are you, oh my God.”
“You once told me I’d have to step up my game to propose to you. That nothing could top what I had done that time in the classroom. I thought over so many different ways, even the cheesy ones.”
“Well, this isn’t exactly not cliché,” you managed through your tears and you felt Jungshin nod beside you.
“I realised after school, the world we knew would be changing. It was the perfect time to do this. I uh, didn’t know I would be proposing tonight. But when I saw you in the library, I figured I couldn’t not try. Will you marry me, Y/N?”
You were too racked with emotions to answer verbally, your head bobbing up and down so fast that Jungshin hand to grab onto it to stop the movement. He leaned in and kissed you, which was hard to reciprocate when you were already out of air from his proposal.
When you pulled away, you realised he had already slipped the ring onto your finger and you marvelled at the perfect fit of everything today. The handing in of your final assignment, the last visit to the place that started all this, and now the confirmation that you and Jungshin would be forever.
You were excited. As you whispered streams of adoration for the man at your side and spent many more moments kissing until the night sky, you were grateful for one thing in particular.
The book that started it all.

“I told you we didn’t have time to drop my stuff off at your place,” you playfully nagged as Yonghwa drove the two of you to your first official date.
“Well, who knows how long the reception will go. I didn’t want you to have to worry about unpacking after a long evening. PLUS this way we can kick off the sleepover as soon as we’re home!”
“Hey!” you said, shoving your elbow across the console of the car and into Yonghwa’s ribs, making him laugh and grab your hand.
He twined your fingers together and rapped out a beat to the song on the radio with your hands on his knee. You looked out the window at the city that had slowly begun feeling like home to you since that first moment you’d touched down at the airport. Thinking back to around three months ago, your gaze shifted to the man in the driver’s seat.
You had the same thought you had on the first day you’d met him. All dressed up in a black tux for the wedding, he was undeniably handsome. And he was all yours.
At least, I think he’s mine? you thought, realizing that after months of late night phone calls and plans for the future, you guys hadn’t actually confirmed any relationship titles. I mean he invited you to a wedding for your first date and you already had things at his place, so that meant you were boyfriend and girlfriend, right?
Your brows started to knit together as your mind kept confusing yourself with your own situation. You lightly rubbed at your forehead, making Yonghwa look over at you.
“Is everything okay?” he said, pulling your hand up to his lips for a quick kiss.
But instead of pulling you out of your thoughts, that actually made it worse. Because the two of you hadn’t kissed yet either. You’d been traveling for some other clients, hence all the late night phone calls. So if you were on your first date, hadn’t kissed, and hadn’t clarified your relationship, were you even in one yet?
Pulling up in front of the venue, you pulled your hand back so you could unbuckle. Still stuck in your own thoughts, you missed Yonghwa hopping out of the car and running around to your side to open your door until he was already helping you out of the car.
Placing his hands on your shoulders, he made you look him in the eyes.
“Y/N, what’s going through your mind right now? Where are you?”
“I just am a little bit confused I guess,” you answered, shying away from explaining yourself but, when you saw his own brows knitting together, you knew you had to be straight with him.
“I just started thinking ‘what are we?’ I mean we’ve been talking on the phone as much as we could for months now. I’m your date to a wedding and my stuff is at your place, but we’ve only ever actually been around each other for a few weeks? Are we dating? Are we flirting? I don’t do this so I’m just not really sure -”
Abruptly, Yonghwa pulled you to him and pressed his lips to yours, stalling your brain and silencing your motor mouth. They were sweetly soft as the plucked against yours. He didn’t move to deepen the kiss, only seemed to be enjoying breathing you in.
You had clutched at the lapels on his jacket, so hard in fact that when he began to move back you had moved right with him, eyes closed, chasing after his lips. With a chuckle, he obliged and moved back in for another quick peck before separating the two of you.
He pulled your hands from his jacket, only to hold them both in one of his while his other hand brushed under your eye and across your cheek.
“I’m sorry if I hadn’t made my intentions clear.” he started, looking you sincerely in the eyes. “I want you to be my girlfriend. Not just because you are intelligent and beautiful and kind and independent, but because who else is going to get my blanket obsession and tease me about how I look at myself in mirrors?”
You laughed at his quirky version of a confession. But I mean with the way he’d asked you on your first date, you shouldn’t be surprised.
You pulled one of your hands out to fix the little bit of your lipstick that had smeared on a corner of his lips and Yonghwa playfully chased your finger to kiss the pad of it as you pulled your hand back.
“Well, then I guess that clears things up for me. We should probably head inside to grab our seats now,” you said, starting to walk away with a smirk.
“Wait!” Yonghwa said, catching up to you. “So are you my girlfriend? Really?”
Reaching down to grab his hand and pull him along, you turned to the side and gave him a smile.
“Yes, Yonghwa, I’ll be your girlfriend.”

All of your bridesmaids had already strolled down ahead of you, and now it was your turn. If Jonghyun hadn’t been waiting down at the other end of that stretch of carpet, you probably wouldn’t be able to work up the nerve to do it.
Your heart was pounding, your palms were sweating - you were fairly sure your bouquet of flowers was going to slide right out of your hands - and it was a very real possibility that your shaking legs were not going to make it all the way to the altar.
But knowing the love of your life would be there to greet you gave you the strength you needed to put one foot in front of the other. God, that sounded cheesy, but… it had always been that way. Ever since you’d met him, he’d made you a better person. And he would argue (very calmly and sweetly) that you had done the same for him. Why else would you be marrying each other, pledging to spend your lives together for as long as you could?
When the doors opened, you took a deep breath. You looked up, your eyes immediately finding Jonghyun’s, and although you weren’t quite close enough… you could tell he was crying. Or, at the very least, he was tearing up. So, of course, you teared up. And by the time you’d made it to him, a tear had slipped out and was now trailing delicately down your cheek.
Jonghyun reached up to wipe it away, a watery smile tugging at his lips as you quickly handed your bouquet off to your maid of honor.
“You look so beautiful,” Jonghyun whispered, taking your hands and squeezing them gently.
“Yeah, except you’re going to ruin my makeup.”
He let out a whisper of a chuckle, shaking his head slightly just before the officiant began to speak.
“Ladies and gentleman, we are gathered here today to celebrate the union of two souls…”
All throughout the ceremony, you found you kept holding your breath. As if you weren’t sure this was actually real, and if you breathed too much, you would wake up.
But Jonghyun’s hands were really holding yours. His eyes were really gazing at you. His smile was as bright and sparkling as ever. His words of love, his vows, rang through your ears so powerfully that you were certain they’d never leave your memory. There was no way this was a dream.
And then the cold metal on your finger. “I now pronounce you husband and wife.” The kiss. The applause. The music.
All of a sudden, you were holding your bouquet again and walking back down the aisle. Though, this time, Jonghyun was by your side. Not as your boyfriend or your fiancé, but as your husband. Officially.
“Okay, we’re married now,” you said in slight disbelief as the photographer began directing you where to go. 
“Yeah,” Jonghyun said softly, the smirk on his lips undeniably adorable. “We are.”
You could no longer hold back your excitement at the prospect of actually, finally being married, so you let out a squeal as you stood on your toes and threw your arms around Jonghyun’s neck. He caught you easily, of course, squeezing and hugging you tightly.
“I love you so much,” he whispered into your ear. “I can’t wait to spend forever with you.”
And there went your tears again. 
Good thing your makeup artist hadn’t left yet.

Minhyuk
You couldn’t remember the last time a smile had hurt your face so much. Ever since the “I now pronounce you husband and wife” bit you had been grinning like a fool. You were sure you had been the very first to start clapping as the couple walked back down the aisle because you could barely contain yourself.
And Minhyuk? He was right there with you.
When the two of you had stood up at your reception table to applaud as the happy couple walked in, he had been nudging you in the side while laughing because honestly, he was just as excited as you were.
Throughout the reception, you had been walking around introducing him to all of your coworkers. They all fawned over him but Minhyuk was good about continuously keeping his arm around your waist and bragging about you. Most people would think he was posing as the enamored boyfriend, but really that was just how he was all the time.
He always liked touching you in some way when you were out in public (and a whole different way when it was just the two of you at home but that was a whole nother part of his teasing flirty personality you could not let yourself think of at a wedding). The two of you just couldn’t get enough of each other, as cliche as it sounded.
Since your first date, every weekend without fail you’d met up for movies, day trips, picnics, amusement parks, laser tag, a park fair, you name it! And in the evenings, Minhyuk almost always was waiting outside Code Name for you so you could go to each other’s places or out for dinner and drinks (and dancing!)
You were both young and full of energy and it showed. From couple tees to Eskimo kisses, you both enjoyed doing the mushy romantic things. And the best part? Minhyuk would still bring you treats at work! Only now you rewarded him with cheek kisses along with waters or teas depending on the weather.
And because you guys were practically inseparable, most of your coworkers had seen him around even if they hadn’t officially met him. So when you were properly introducing him at the wedding, your face was constantly red as coworkers kept bringing up all the times they had seen the two of you flirt at the company. And Minhyuk was eating it all up, glad that everyone not only knew who he was, but also that he was with you.
“Alright, I’d like to see all the unmarried females on the dancefloor for the toss of the bridal bouquet!”
You popped up on your toes to give Minhyuk a quick kiss and then took off for the floor. You loved weddings and even more you loved flowers, so of course, you were going to try and go for the bouquet.
Everyone was crowding around and, as the bouquet came flying, everyone jumped. But you thrust out your elbows to give yourself some space. Two of you seemed to grab it, you say seemed to because you immediately yanked so that the bouquet was all yours.
The whole crowd laughed as you turned to wave the bouquet around in Minhyuk’s direction, but instead of seeing him laugh at you, he just seemed to be giving you a look.
The look.
The look of someone who has something big on their minds.
You walked up to him, wiggling your eyebrows slightly trying to make him laugh.“What’s going on in that head of yours, Minhyuk?” you said, raising the hand not holding the bouquet to smooth down a stray eyebrow hair of his, then trailing your finger down his cheek only to leave your hand resting on his shoulder.
Wrapping his arms around your waist, he pulled you closer until the only thing separating you was the bouquet.
“It just hit me all of a sudden.”
“What did?”
“Your smile.”
“My smile? Minhyuk what is going on with you?”
You saw him take a deep breath before he said something that took your own breath away.“I just realized it’s a smile I could look at for the rest of my life. That’s all.”
You couldn’t think of how to respond, because you knew that whatever you said now couldn’t match up to his sweet words. So you did the only thing you could think of.
You kissed him, starting to realize you could smile with him for the rest of your life too.

It didn’t matter who it was getting married - you always cried. Anyone who didn’t know you well would be shocked to see the tears in your eyes; you were so quiet and reserved, and you barely ever showed your emotions on your face. Your heart was most decidedly not on your sleeve.
But Jungshin did know you well. You’d been dating for almost six months, and you spent time together practically every day. It was one of the benefits of working for the same company.
As you sniffled away a tear, you felt Jungshin’s hand come to rest on your shoulder, squeezing it gently in reassurance.
“Sorry,” you whispered guiltily, rolling your eyes at yourself. “The first dance always gets me.”
Jungshin simply chuckled softly and leaned in to press a kiss to your temple. You were more than grateful to have him in your life, more than you’d ever imagined when you’d simply had a crush on him. He was… pretty much the perfect guy for you. It was amazing but kind of scary at the same time.
The DJ came through the speaker then, inviting any couples to join the newlyweds on the dance floor. 
Normally, you would refuse. You weren’t a dancer, and you didn’t like to be the center of attention. But when Jungshin stood and held his hand out to you… you couldn’t say ‘no.’ You still felt your cheeks warming as your boyfriend led you onto the dance floor, though.
“Don’t worry,” Jungshin murmured as he took you into his arms, his hand resting on the small of your back. “There’s a bunch of other couples up here, too. No one’s looking at you… except me.”
Of course, this made your cheeks warm even more, but that had most certainly been Jungshin’s intention when he’d said that. He was cheeky like that sometimes. You actually loved that about him.
“Thank you,” you said softly after a few moments of dancing in comfortable silence (save for the music).
“For what?” he murmured, pulling you just a little bit closer.
“For… being you. For being my wedding date. For being mine. For all of it.”
“You’re welcome.” Jungshin leaned in to press his forehead to yours and let out a soft, contented sigh.
You closed your eyes, drinking in this moment and burning it into your brain. But your thoughts were interrupted by his own “Thank you.”
“Thank me?” you asked in slight confusion.
“Thank you for being claustrophobic.”
“What?!” you laughed. “What are you talking about?”
“If you hadn’t panicked when we got stuck in that elevator, you probably wouldn’t have confessed. And I was too stupid to figure it out on my own --”
“Hey, that’s not --”
“So thank you for being claustrophobic. And for being beautiful and funny and smart and caring and helpful and thoughtful and --”
“Okay, okay!” you chuckled. “I get it, you don’t have to --”
“I love you.”
Those three words, spoken so softly but so confidently, stopped you in your tracks. Your mouth hung open, slightly agape. Your heart forgot how to beat. And you thought you had lost all power to talk, but all of a sudden, you heard yourself.
“I love you, too.”
The smile which appeared on Jungshin’s lips started your heart back up again, and a smile grew on your own lips.
“I love you, too,” you repeated. And you realized… you’d never said it so easily before. In the past, you’d always been too anxious or had completely overthought the situation. But right now, the words left your lips as if they’d simply been waiting, ready to say to him at a moment’s notice.
Jungshin leaned in and pressed his lips to yours; you could feel his smile, and your heart actually soared. You’d liked Jungshin for two years, yes, but you honestly never thought he could make you this happy.

Heavy (Part 2) - CNBlue Lee Jungshin
Characters: Jungshin x Reader
 Part 1
By the time you came back into the bathroom, Jungshin had flushed the toilet, and was attempting to get back to his feet. Rushing over, you reached out to steady him and sit him down on the now closed toilet lid. 
“You shouldn’t move, try to stay still ok? Your manager will be here soon to take us to the hospital...” you let him rest his head on your stomach as you held him close. Your one hand kept running itself through his hair to calm him down, his breathing slowing except for the occasional gasps of pain and the tightening grip on your shirt. Sometime later, your phone rings out which you quickly answered. 
“Hello?”
“What’s your house code?” his manager asked you over the phone. After giving him the numbers, he made his way in and found you in the bathroom. 
“Geez, come on let’s get you in the car,” he said as he pried Jungshin away from you and helped him up to his feet. While they made their way to the waiting car, you ran about the bedroom trying to pick up anything you may need for the hospital visit. Quick steps led you to the car outside and you climbed in, sitting next to Jungshin. He spent the entire ride over with his eyes closed and his arms around his middle, with every road bump leaving him in gasps of pain. It took longer to get to the hospital as the manager was driving slower than usual, but when you got there a sigh of relief left your lips. 
In record time, you got out of the car and both helped Jungshin out and inside the emergency department. You ran ahead and informed the nurse of your situation but despite the urgency, you were told to sit and wait for someone to come and get Jungshin. 
He finally gets called sometime later and when he’s settled into one of the cubicles, the nurse immediately goes to check him over. She asked him so many questions and he tried his best to answer them amidst all the pain. 
The hospital lights were too bright for Jungshin and no matter what, he couldn’t avoid them. The pain got worse as he was moved about but he figured that if he didn’t move an inch, he won’t feel any of it. So he laid, eyes shut as he waited for the doctor to come and examine him some more. He could barely hear the hushed conversation you were having with his manager and the sounds around him were starting to lull down to background noise. The thought of maybe falling asleep to avoid answering any more questions were soon out the door as the doctor came in. 
“Alright Mr Lee... Abdominal pain and vomiting correct?”
“Yes...”
“Any other symptoms?” he asked as he checked Jungshin with his stethoscope. Jungshin takes a while to answer as he stared at the doctor blankly. 
“Just a fever I think,” he mumbled as the doctor looked to him for permission to lift his shirt. He nodded slightly and the doctor proceeded to poke and prod his stomach, which made him whimper in pain. It wasn’t until he pressed down on a certain area that Jungshin cried out, surprising both you and his manager. 
Jungshin’s free hand gripped the sheets, beads of sweat were now starting to show on his forehead. The doctor then immediately ordered for an ultrasound to be done to confirm his diagnosis but you didn’t have to wait to know what the verdict was. 
Appendicitis. 
In a blur, Jungshin was being scheduled in for emergency surgery and was soon wheeled away, leaving you and his manager to wait in the waiting room. With the spare time on your hands, you decided to call his brothers and tell them where he was. 
“Hello?”
“Yonghwa oppa... “
“Oh. What’s wrong, is everything okay?” he straight away asked, picking up the distressed tone of your voice. You didn’t answer him for a few moments and he thought you may have hung up on him, but the background hospital noises told him otherwise. 
“Oppa, it’s Jungshin...he’s in hospital, for appendicitis,” you finally tell him and there’s a heavy sigh from his end. 
“I’ll call the others and we’ll come as fast as we can,” he told you, the sounds of him rushing about reached your ears. 
“No, don’t bother... He’s in surgery now and he won’t be awake until tomorrow, so there’s no point of you staying. Plus I’m here with his manager, so just come visit tomorrow okay? Just get some rest...”
“Are you sure?” he wasn’t convinced and he wanted to be there for Jungshin, but he also knew you were right. He was better off coming tomorrow when he can see Jungshin up and awake. 
“I’m sure, just tell the others and I’ll see you tomorrow,”

One person is someone who is inseparable from me - my friend, the other is I don't know well, but I heard they are an SM-fan. The guest who is my friend likes Korean food, so he is cooking Korean food (it seems chicken broth/soup). It's Minho's first time at Kibum's agit. Kibum got very excited looking at Minho's presents. He is screaming hahaha. They just showed Kibum's Instagram post where Minho is in a cart and Kibum is pushing him.
Kibum said he is sick of Minho, cause they have been together the whole day (when the shooting for this episode happened).
Minho: Hello, I am the real owner of Cheongdam Keytchen. I am SHINee's Minho. 
Minho said he watched the audition program of the second guest (i didn't catch his name ㅠㅠ). Second guest said he loves SM so much, he likes all the groups. He said he liked SHINee to the extend that he wore Reebok when SHINee was advertising them. They are eating the food right now. Minho said it's delicious.
Kibum said he trains once or twice before cooking. Kibum said at first he failed completely to make the dish, so practiced 2 more times for Minho. Kibum told Park-shi that he is the first person who talks more than himself. Kibum asked he should have entered SM he said he tried but couldn't but now that Mystic is with SM so it must be destiny. Park-shi is making both of them laugh. Minho and Key really likes him. Park-shi has performed together at SMTown in Japan. Minho said when Lee Soo Man told them that their team name was decided
It is SHINee, that moment is unforgettable. Park-shi said the girl he liked liked SM so he was curious why she liked SM so he went and bought album. Park-shi said SM's quality of songs is so different, so good. Park-shi said he doesn't release physical albums, only singles
Minho asked if there is more rice, and Kibum said there is and went to bring rice. Park-shi asked how Kibum manages his skin, also asked how they manage working out during schedule. Minho said his schedule in a day is working out, he works out then eats lunch and goes back to working out.
He started playing golf in the morning too. Park-shi was casted in USA but he lived there only for a year or two so he doesn't know how to speak English, just has the image of gyopo. Park-shi said he looks the best things in people first, but Kibum said he looks for bad things in the people first, and has been hurt a lot, so tries to keep away from people who make him feel not so good. Park-shi said he has many older friends.
Park-shi said he is close with Roy Kim. He was in the same entertainment with Roy Kim when they were in Superstar K. Roy Kim has bought Park-shi food for a year, and Seungri bought him food twice. Park-shi said he didn't dress very well so Seungri asked him why you always dress badly, and started taking care of him and sent him 5 million won and sent him long message telling him he will support him a lot and to keep doing what he is doing with confidence and to buy clothes with the money he sent. So Park-shi sent the money back to him.
Kibum: He (Minho) is always adored by older people, too. He is cute whit older people, but acts like the elder one when he is with same age or younger. I am the type who has to be with the people who match me well or I run away.
Minho: His (Key) friends are all people who match him well when Kibum says Ah they say Oh. I don't say Oh when he says Ah.
Kibum: Our codes match well.
Minho: I heard a rumor that I stole Kibum's peach.
They are showing the part where Kibum talked about that episode.
Minho: Peach is the fruit I like the best, the most, I even once almost fought with my brother. I don't even chew on it. But I brought peaches now even though they are out of season.
Kibum: it's not only about peach but he also ate like this (he showed how) so it really made me want to eat it.
Minho: It’s because I got flustered in front of peach.
Minho brought dinner set toy. Lol he even made Kibum to say he is excited. Minho wanted to bring something expensive but was worried that Key will nag again how it's entertainment show, etc.
Park-shi's favorite song is "Passport" Kibum said all his songs can be turned into movies, they have great scenario. They are listening to the song.
They are even showing the Music Video (it's a first).
Park-shi said he really wanted to sing for Yoon Jungshin's show and he did. Yoon Jungshin thought Park-shi can play guitar very well, but he only knew one song. The only song he knew on guitar was John Mayer's Start the Train.
Park-shi said during the encore stage for Superstar K his prompter was not working and to not show he forgot the lyrics he started crying. He said with the money he produced album, and opened a temple restaurant. Park-shi said he wants to survive, he wants to keep singing and have a comfortable life.
Park-shi: What kind of friends do you think you are, what kind of co-workers?
Kibum: At first I thought I wouldn't be friends with him if I saw him outside. He would have thought so.
Minho: When I first saw him I was so amazed, and we were so different, there was nothing similar with us. we would fight and when I wanted to make the fight better he would say "Why are you trying to make it better? Say what you need to say!" But as time went we became the most similar. So I am annoyed now that we get along.
Park-shi: Things you were mad at each other (sulky)
Minho: He is actually not that expressive. Key can't say thank you or sorry. I even asked him once if saying thank you was that hard? And he said yes.
Kibum: It was hard back then.
Minho: He would step on my feet then just make sound and then go so I thought if he was telling me to fight or something. But it was because he was shy.
Kibum: I felt like reading a script when saying thank you and sorry .
Park-shi: For me favourite songs: 3rd place View, 2nd Love Like Oxygen, 1st Replay
Minho: For me second place is Ring Ding Dong and Lucifer, because at that time everyone knew us for Ring Ding Dong. View was a turning point for us.
Kibum: 3rd Sherlock, 2nd Good Evening, 1st View.
Minho: View was a song like destiny for us. It was the song we all wanted to do and had our opinions reflected the most.
Park-shi: Moments you were thankful to each other.
Minho: For me thank you is a very precious word that I say to close people only. I am thankful that we became members, I am thankful for the members for changing me and making me into a good person. We influenced each other in a good way so I am very thankful.
Kibum: Minho knows me without words, he just looks at my face and knows it's even more awkward if we thank each other, because we are very close.
Park-shi: I am jealous cause you have this team, you guys are close, like a family.
Minho: We are a family, since we meet more with each other than our mom or dad.
Minho: I don't have anything hard right now, but it's a little stressful that the promotions with members are getting shorter. I never felt I was lonely but now I think that this feeling was actually loneliness. Now that I know I am lonely I am scared and don't know what to do when I feel lonely. Should I meet with people? But I can’t make people meet me just because I am lonely so it's hard.
Minho: I hope people will see more of Kibum's charms by seeing him talking with people and doing this show.
Kibum: Minho is someone I am thankful too and who will come always.
Some clarifications.
Kibum said Minho and him are like ping pong, they give and take (words) and get along well now.
Minho said now that the promotions with members are getting shorter and he has to work alone (shootings, etc) he is stressed. He never thought he felt lonely but now he knows all this time he was feeling loneliness. At that time it was okay since he didn’t know what he was feeling, but now that he knows he is lonely it’s scary. He doesn’t know what he has to do when he gets lonely.
Minho said during Ring Ding Dong even grandmas would recognize him saying that he is the boy who sings Ring Ding Dong. So even though Rind Ding Dong is not the sing that shows of SHINee musically or reflects their thoughts about music, it’s the song that made them known to public.
Minho said View was the song they found while they were looking for something that would express SHINee well, when they were searching for their sound and like destiny they found that song. Said they do meetings to decide what music to do.
Minho said he wondered how a person like Kibum exist when they first met, because there was nothing in common with them.

Admittedly my instant idea was 1920s for Jungshin, but the idea was more towards angst/romance, and I’m glad I decided to change it, even if it’s been late in getting posted today. You were sick of the glitz and glam every weekend. The novelty had worn off; much like the overstayed welcome of several people who lingered in your home long after the music stopped playing. You were over the pretentious conversations, the gossiping of other people’s failures from those who were just as flawed.
You were done with social expectations.
As the only daughter of the biggest business conglomerate in the city, you weren’t exactly able to escape any of it. Even on the rare occasions where you feigned a terrible headache and opted to spend the night in bed, the garden party below would still go on. From the third floor of the family estate, you couldn’t avoid the buzzing of the affluent. The jazz band would play into the early morning, and you would be just as frustrated up in the confines of your own bedroom as you would if you went downstairs to join the festivities. And so you often would fold, unable to enjoy the parties but disliking the walls that entrapped you within the house equally.
It was yet another weekend and another party. The bankers were jovial, talking of how prosperous the financial year had been so far, and the current strength of Wall Street. The celebrities gushed over new silent film offers and the women all sported the short-bobbed hairstyle that had swept the nation by storm. There were a few women who flitted around from one occupation to the next, looking for someone to start the American dream with.
And then there was the band setting up for the next round of songs. With a champagne flute in one hand to look the part and steer anyone clear of offering to get a drink for you, you wandered around the party, looking for a corner to hide in. You knew that it wouldn’t be long until someone chose to spoke to you about your Daddy’s company, or sought out your time to get into business with your family. You were tired and the band had only played one set so far.
You turned your attention to the quartet, noticing that they weren’t the same band your Daddy usually hired. They were all rather tall, yet the one holding the string bass was the tallest. You watched him prepare for their next segment, expertly checking his instrument and then he looked to the drummer who took a seat and lifted his drumsticks on the ready. The pianist loudly cried for them to begin and you listened to their upbeat music, fascinated that they could create such a sound without a single woodwind instrument. They were energetic and unlike the bands that usually played at these parties, they refused to remain in the background, welcoming the clapping from those who gathered around. This spurred on their playing. You smiled, moving closer to the quartet, your gaze shifting from one member to the next. The drummer smiled often, the guitarist was throwing his head back with the rhythm and the pianist grew livelier with the increasing crowd. When you finally looked to the bassist again, you were transfixed. He wasn’t really paying attention to the party; he was lost in the music. You watched his nimble fingers pluck and flick at the strings, creating a unique sound. Soon you weren’t aware of anyone else around you either, the music transporting you to a place that made you float along in ecstasy.
And you hadn’t had a single drop of champagne yet.
When the song ended, the group that surrounded the musicians dispersed except for you. Blinking slowly away from your magical state, you blushed immediately, finding the bassist staring right at you. He smirked and then turned to his band members, promptly ignoring you. You watched his back as your frustration built and you gave him a final glare before stomping off to the garden pergola by the lake. There you sat for the remainder of the party, trying not to give the music that filtered down to where you were any mind.
Except, you were truly captivated.
You replayed the expression on his face over and over, smiling lightly at his passion. You had seen countless people play music over the years, but none seemed to be as engrossed with their art as he had. You wondered what kind of formal training he had, if any.
You hoped that he would teach you at least some.
“Don’t be foolish,” you scolded yourself outwardly, shaking your head. Your mind shifted to the way he had coldly ignored you and your grip on the skirt of your evening dress bunched up in your fist. You let go, only because the embroidered sequins dug into your palm of your hand through your gloves.
“Do you always talk to yourself?” a voice asked, and startled, you turned to see who was there. You blinked once and that smirk he had given you before now returned. “You left the party?”
“I needed fresh air.”
He shrugged and sat down, leaving some room between you both. “The party is outdoors, yet it became stuffy for you, Princess?”
“Prince- I’ll have you know, I’m nothing of the sort!” you spluttered and a chuckle vibrated its way out of him. Even the noises he made were like music to your ears. You glowered at the lake in front of you momentarily before snapping your focus to him. “Why are you here?”
“Well, I didn’t know there was a place off-limits to me.”
“Are you always this condescending?”
He smiled, his gaze amused with your flustered state. “Are you always hiding away?”
You faltered, staring at him and trying to decipher how he had come to that conclusion. He rested back on his elbows, stretching out his impossibly tall frame beside you. Finally, he glanced at your troubled expression. “I didn’t ignore you.”
“Well,” you started, opening your mouth and then closing it when no other words followed. You huffed out a breath and then looked back at the lake. “I wasn’t exactly looking to gain your attention.”
“Really?” he asked, and when you stared in his direction again, his gaze implored you to tell the truth. His infamous smirk crossed his lips again and you struggled with whether you wanted to wipe it away for good, or continue to encourage it to remain there. “Should I go, Princess?”
“Would you stop calling me that, you have no basis to call me that.”
“Aren’t you my boss’ daughter? The one who never enjoys Daddy’s parties?”
You froze, unsure how he knew such a thing. This was his first time performing here. The man grinned at you and gently reached out to finger the edge of your dress. “You’re also the best dressed here. Are you sure you’re not a Princess?”
“I may look the part but I am definitely not afraid to step out of my social status either,” you announced, hiking your chin up in defence. He laughed and you swivelled in your seated position to face him. “Why do you laugh?!”
“I should have ignored you after all. I feel you might be trouble.”
You smiled, triumphant. “And why is that?”
“Because I want to make you prove it,” he said, the humour leaving his handsome features. You stared back at him for a moment, wondering what he would expect from you. And then suddenly, before you truly grappled at the consequences of such a decision, you leaned over and pressed your lips to his.
To say he was surprised was an understatement and you blinked rapidly before yanking away, your cheeks reddening the same shade as your lipstick. For a moment neither of you made a move.
And then he laughed.
He laughed so heartily that it stunned you. But it was so infectious that you began to join in, soon clutching at your sides as they began to ache with your lively gesture. You turned to him. “Why are we laughing?!”
“Because if that’s how you plan to prove to me that you’re not just some rich man’s daughter, I don’t know what else to expect from you,” he replied, reaching out to place a hand on your shoulder so he could settle himself. Once the laughter rippling from within him dried up, he smiled at you, shaking his head incredulously. “Is that truly how you kiss a man?”
“Well, I-”
“Wait, don’t tell me that’s the first time you’ve kissed a person before,” he continued, chuckling along with his statement. You didn’t respond immediately and he hiccupped back his amusement, eyes wide as your silence answered him. “It was?”
“And you just laughed at my first kiss as well,” you grumbled, folding your gloved arms over your chest. “I’ll be forever haunted by this, you know.”
“Really?”
You nodded once.
“Wow, and you gave it to me?” He became still, processing the situation. “What is your name? You kissed someone without knowing who they were.”
“Yet you kissed me back!”
“Hardly!” he remarked, shifting closer to you. “Your name?”
“Y/N.” You looked up at him and sighed. “Surely, you knew it already since you guessed who I was. Everyone in this city knows of my family.”
“Y/N,” he repeated, his smile now genuine. “Surely you should know my name too.”
You glanced at him and then scoffed. “Very funny. I’m sorry to deflate your ego, but tonight is the first time I’ve ever seen or heard of you. I have no name to refer to you by.”
He kissed you then, languid, soft. His hand reached for the side of your neck, cupping it gently as he continued to steal your breath and your heart. You didn’t want this to end, though you began to feel dizzy with the lack of air. When he finally pulled away, he smiled, brushing your hair behind your ear. “That is how you really kiss someone.”
“Without giving a name?” you somehow managed to answer, and he let out a breathy chuckle. Standing up, you watched his steps in confusion, wondering where he would go right now. You stood up yourself, your gaze pleading for him not to leave. He groaned and returned, cupping your face again.
“You’re trouble,” he told you, pecking your swollen lips softly. “And I’m Jungshin.”
“You’ll be in trouble if you leave me here, Jungshin,” you uttered and he gave you an exasperated look. You let out a deep breath. “You can’t just kiss me like that and disappear!”
“And why not? The party’s over. Don’t you need to return to your home? I heard someone calling your name just now.”
You gasped, wondering if it was your maid that had been sent out to collect you like usual. Despite worrying about if you got caught with one of the band, you moved towards Jungshin’s side, looking up at him. “Still, you can’t just disappear.”
“I should have ignored you,” he concluded, shaking his head at himself. He then pointed down the path you both had to take to return back to the garden. “Do you know what happens when you perform well at an event, Y/N?”
“You get paid well?” you guessed and he smirked, shaking his head and taking your hand in his. “Your ego inflates from how many people clapped for you?”
He laughed. “You get asked to return and play again. So am I really disappearing for good? Even if I weren’t playing here again next weekend, I’d find a way to get back to you, don’t worry. I don’t just kiss anyone.”
You smiled, his hand that held yours letting go so he could head back before you. As you watched Jungshin move out of your view, you knew that whilst you were over how parties had previously been, you now had something to look forward to for the next one.

Summary: Even after all this time of dating Jungshin, he’s still leaving you notes in books and stealing them from out under your nose.
Pairing: Lee Jungshin x reader

You finally found him within the bustling library environment, a small huff of air departing you as you narrowed your gaze on him.
Jungshin had done it again.
You weren’t normally a petty person, especially when it came to your boyfriend. He didn’t always make it easy on you to love him either. He was as determined as you were when it came to your studies and dating you hadn’t softened this in any way. Sure, he would often copy pages he thought you would need for your assignments and you would email him resources you found during your part-time job helping in the library archives. You both had a mutual understanding that helping each other with notes would assist you both in succeeding. And this had worked throughout your entire university degree so far.
You knew better than to let him know which books you wanted to hire out though. After your incident over the textbook you had both booked out in your second year of being a history student, you hadn’t faced too many crossovers towards the information you needed. Because you had a well-oiled system.
Or so you thought.
Storming over to him, you saw the small smile that played on his lips when he noticed your arrival. It irked you further and you placed your hands on your hips. “Why.”
“Why what?”
“You know I needed those three texts for my thesis. I need to get through the second third of my paper and those books are vital. I know it’s you who rented them out,” you explained, sounding calmer than you felt. Until you saw all three texts you required sitting on the table beside him. You grumbled. “You’re not even writing the same concept as I am on the American Revolution so why do you have my books?!”
Jungshin smirked and kept trailing his pencil over the segment in the book he was reading. You huffed at his avoidance.
“Jungshin!” you whined and his hand moved to pull the chair beside him out and then pointed at it. You sat down heavily and blinked rapidly when he yanked both you and the chair closer to himself.
He finally looked at you and smiled. “You’re always so cute when you’re worked up, you know?”
“I’m not in the mood to be cute to you, I need those books.”
“Mm, I know.”
“So, why do you have them?” you asked, feeling some of your annoyance seep away when he slung his arm over the back of your chair. He always smelt ridiculously good and you couldn’t help but inhale his cologne with a relaxing sigh.
He was affecting you again.
“Well, I figured since my girlfriend is so stressed out about her thesis that I should help her.”
“This isn’t helping. This is the complete opposite of helping. I need to have those books for some time to complete this portion of my thesis.”
Jungshin nodded. “I know.”
“Return them so I can hire them out,” you instructed and Jungshin sighed as he placed down his pencil. “I can’t miss this opportunity in my schedule to get it all done.”
“I hired them out for you,” he explained and you frowned. “I figured if someone so much as stole your texts out from under you again you’d combust. So, I hired them out for you. And, if you request to hire them now, you’ll be next in line and able to peruse them for double the time.”
You blinked again. “You did this all for me?”
“And you think I only consider what I need all the time. I’m offended, Y/N.”
“You really aren’t playing with me?” you asked cautiously, leaning over to the books on the table. “I know you, there’s always a catch.”
“Mm, maybe there is one,” he admitted with a small smile, diverting his gaze from your hesitant focus, whilst reaching down for his bag. He placed his things away in it and then turned to kiss the side of your head. “I’ve got to get to my tutorial I’m running for Professor Jung. I’ll see you soon?”
“Yeah,” you breathed in farewell, looking at the books on the table curiously. Several years ago when you had received a handout like this from Jungshin, he had left you notes and his number. It was how you started your relationship. Slowly, you reached forward for the first text, flipping through the pages for any handwriting that you recognised as your boyfriend’s. You didn’t find anything, and moved onto the second, coming up empty there too. You scoffed at your notion of finding something important inside these textbooks. You almost abandoned looking at the third but you humoured your foolishness once more, reaching for the final book and flipping through.
A sheet of paper fell out and you picked it up hastily, reading a room number from the history department printed in Jungshin’s handwriting. You collected the books and slipped them into your bag before heading out of the library and up to the third floor where the small tutorial rooms were located. Did he mean to leave you the note in the book? Was it just a coincidence that it was in there waiting for you? You tried to squash your doubt. You knew Jungshin enjoyed leaving you little trails to follow to get closer to him. You hoped there would be meaning for your trip to the classroom.
You frowned to find the small window in the door covered and you couldn’t check if a class was in session in there. Listening in for any voices, you felt it would be safe to enter after knocking softly on the door.
And then you stopped dead in the entrance.
Jungshin glanced up at your arrival with a shy grin. “It didn’t take you long.”
“What’s all this?” you breathed, noticing a cake, drinks and balloons decorating the front table. Jungshin pointed to the whiteboard where he had pulled down the screen and projected a powerpoint presentation onto. It soon started to move and the words Happy Birthday Y/N turned up on the slide.
You laughed, of course it would be just like this. A student-teacher using all his classroom tools to present you with a birthday present. Jungshin moved over to you and guided you gently to a chair he had pulled out. You sat down and looked at everything around you.
“First you hire out my books for me and now you’re spoiling me like this? Is there anything you can’t do to make me swoon further?” you asked, blinking back your overwhelmed emotions.
Jungshin sat down beside you and leaned in to kiss you softly. He then smiled. “I’m not sure but I’m glad I have many years ahead of me to keep trying to make you fall even more for me.”
“It will be impossible for you to top this,” you murmured and Jungshin smirked slyly. “What, I’m being honest! This is just so sweet of you.”
“I haven’t proposed to you yet. Are you saying I won’t be able to do better than this when that time comes?”

Summary: You had waited long enough to get the textbook you needed to start your essay but you kept being next in line thanks to Lee Jungshin.

It wasn’t often that you felt like you had everything on track as a student.
Most of the time you were fighting through exhaustion and being overworked to get every assignment in on time. Last semester had been such a nightmare that you were not looking forward to the new one, worrying about whether you would get everything done now that your hours at work had increased too. But by some miracle, you had adopted a schedule that allowed for optimal study and you were suddenly ahead for the first time ever in your degree.
It was as if you had finally learned what it was like to get through life successfully. And now that you were ahead, you wanted to remain that way. You had just received your essay questions in your American Revolution lecture and thankfully one of the topics you had hoped for was a proposed question which gave you the motivation to get started now.
You didn’t exactly like writing essays but you did enjoy this course a lot. You were already pumped about researching the topic right away, heading into the university library and into the high demand book section. You knew the three texts that you required were in there after checking the library app on your walk across campus and all three were marked as available.
Of course, because no one else was going to start their essay a month early like you.
After finding the first two, the specific text that you knew from an earlier study in the course that held a lot of content for your question was surprisingly not in the section. You checked your app again, frowning when it said it was still available. Knowing no one could leave the high demand book section without borrowing the book, you glanced around to see if any of your classmates were at the tables along the wall. You didn’t recognise anyone and frowned.
I guess I can always start with these two, you thought to yourself before letting go of your minor frustration, heading over to check out your books so you could begin researching.

The book wasn’t there when you went to leave a few hours later and it appeared checked out later that evening. You didn’t want to be petty about it even though you really needed the book to continue your preparation. The other two were already helpful but you knew there was more content in the elusive text. Since the book had to be returned within three days this settled some of your anxiety over it and you had requested to be the next in line, feeling at ease that the current borrower couldn’t renew it on top of you.
But when you went to pick it up it wasn’t back in yet.
“Are you sure it’s not waiting to be scanned as returned?” you asked, hopeful, and the librarian went over to the bin, returning with a shake of her head.
“It shouldn’t be too long,” she mentioned and you nodded softly, checking your phone for the time as you had a class to get to. You waited for ten more minutes before dashing out, hoping you could find the time to head back before work.
Your lecture ran late and so you couldn’t return back to the library right after as you had to rush to work, so you went first thing in the morning, seeing it sitting on the front shelf waiting to be picked up from your request. You picked up the book right as another hand gripped on, your eyes shifting to see who would be grabbing your textbook.
You couldn’t help the light blush that grew upon your cheeks even if your eyes were still scrutinising him for trying to take what wasn’t his.
It was so unfair that Lee Jungshin was doing this to you.
“What are you doing?” he asked softly, tilting his head and looking at your hand on the book briefly before continuing his sentence. “You can’t take books that are on hold.”
“I could say the same thing to you, I’m next in line.”
He frowned, his eyes travelling to the book once more and smiled. Was he flirting with you? His hand was currently over yours and all semester long you had been on and off with bantering with the tall student. It wasn’t your usual type of thing to do, knowing that dating is what every college student dreamed of but you had no room in your schedule to exactly hold a stable social life with all the studying your papers demanded. All the same, he made you feel different when you were with him, his outgoing nature somehow encouraging your introverted self to be more outspoken and not just because you were passionate about the American Revolution as a subject.
Right now though, words were failing you because his hand was over yours, and well, now that you were staring at his hand you wanted to keep staring. If you had lifted your eyes to the slip sticking out of the book though, you could have saved yourself some embarrassment from seeing his smile whilst holding you like that.
“Y/N,” he started and you nodded, gazing up at him in a dreamy daze, wondering where the independent and hard to distract version of you had gone. He grinned and you bit at your bottom lip. “The book is mine.”
This derailed your romanticising and you let out an indignant scoff. “Listen, Jungshin I–”
His free hand tapped on the docket sticking out the top. Your eyes shifted to it, narrowing at seeing the wrong name there. It certainly wasn’t yours. And as you tried to understand why it didn’t have all the correct letters there, you realised it was someone else’s name entirely.
Lee Jungshin.
His smile was triumphant and in your stunned state, he reached to pull the book away. You jerked with the action and your hand gripped on tighter, his smile disappearing. “What are you doing, let go!”
“There’s a mistake, I was next in line, the app said so!”
Jungshin yanked on the book and being taller helped him take it higher than you could really handle, knowing you wouldn’t be able to maintain such a good grip on it for much longer. If you weren’t so worked up, you wouldn’t allow either of you to treat a textbook in such a manner but desperate times meant you weren’t going to let go.
Even if you had to stand on the tips of your toes.
“Y/N, let go.”
“I waited three days for this book, Jungshin!” you mentioned with a bit of exertion, cursing inwardly at how at ease his body was compared to yours. You were certain you were red in the face now, though perhaps it had to do with the annoyance just as much as the challenge he was presenting. “I am entitled to use the book for my three days now.”
“The essay isn’t even due for a month, why are you so rushed?”
You shot him a dark look. “Then why do you want it?”
“Because I want to get ahead.”
“I am already ahead, but I need this text to continue my preparation,” you countered and he lowered his arm a little, moving closer to you. It took more strength than it should to keep a hold of the text and breathe at the same time.  
“Then you should let me borrow it first.”
“No!”
“What exactly is going on here?” another voice asked and you both snapped apart, looking at the man in front of you. It was then that you realised the book wasn’t in your grasp and you whined.
“There’s been a mistake, I was next in the system and even received an alert that I could collect my book today, yet you’ve assigned it to the next person in line,” you explained, and then gasped to find Jungshin over at the borrowing station, placing his student ID under the scanner. “Hey!”
Jungshin swiftly borrowed the book before you could stop him and smiled down at you smugly. Turning to the librarian he held out the docket that had been sitting in the book to him and then walked off, leaving you staring after him with murderous intent.

There had been a mistake, so the librarian insisted. And whilst you agreed with him, it was discovered you had been let down by the system and not by the injustice from a fellow student. Jungshin’s position had always been ahead of yours. It hadn’t shown up on the library app that there was another person in front of you and you shouldn’t have received the alert to pick up the book.
To make matters worse, two more people were now in line as you had been erased in the mix-up. The librarian couldn’t even honour your original spot. You cursed the failure of technology and library rules; of there only being one text available in your school and that you couldn’t buy it outright online anymore.
You went from feeling in control to desperate.
Rationally, you knew it was early days. But you had worked so hard to keep on track and ahead in schedule all term long that this felt like a signal that you weren’t far from heading back to how last semester panned out.
So now it seemed much larger of a problem than it actually was.
You tried to make the most of it all the same. Studying all other textbooks and online e-books that held some information, you tried to grasp at whatever you could until the book was ready for you. But it was useless and the longer you struggled, the darker your mood got. When you saw Jungshin studying in the library on the last day of his allocated borrow of the book, you walked right up to him and gave him the most desperate expression you could muster.
It wasn’t faked because you were desperate.
He eyed you warily, turning back to the text in front of him. You noticed it was the book you needed and clenched your hands up so you wouldn’t instinctively steal it from him. You didn’t even understand how you were acting like this right now.
“What do you want?”
“Let me borrow it for twenty minutes,” you pleaded and his eyebrow shot up. “I’ll go and photocopy all that I need to from it and then you can have it back.”
“But then I’ll lose twenty minutes of my allotted time.”
You groaned. “Because of you, I now have to wait for two more people to borrow it first because your name knocked me out of the system!”
“Was it me or a computer’s fault?” he questioned, not even glancing at you. “Y/N, I never knew you to be so petty like this and over a book too.”
You bit back your immediately formed insult and smiled as best as you could. “Please, Jungshin. It would really mean a lot to me and I’ll be as quick as I can be.”
He sighed heavily and you became hopeful he was caving. He nodded and smiled back at you. “Well, since you asked so nicely, I guess there’s only one thing to do.”
Your hand outstretched for the book now in his but he lifted it up over you as he stood up, walking towards a row of copiers. You followed along like a puppy following your master, frowning when he bypassed them too. And then he went right to the returns, slotting the book through the gap and turned back to you with a smirk in place.
You were going to kill him.

Two days later, you were seated in the library surrounded by books for another paper you had received and thankfully this one had better accessible research materials. You were invested in getting this one planned out and underway before your American Revolution one, knowing that part of your incessant need to get it finished was to feel back on track again. You weren’t going to cut corners though just because you wanted it to get through this, you still wouldn’t hand in anything less than worthy of your efforts.
So when someone sat down next to you, you were too busy taking down notes to see who it was. It wasn’t uncommon for students to take empty seats with random people when it was as busy as it was today but when they nudged you it was obvious they knew you and wanted your attention. Your best friend wasn’t on campus today so you turned to see who was beside you.
As soon as your gaze connected with Jungshin’s face you sighed, looking back down at your work and ignored him. Yet he nudged you again and you hissed at his annoying approach to get your attention. “What?”
“Testy,” he surmised and you didn’t answer him, because you were still furious with him.
Handsome or not, he was a jerk.
A couple of minutes passed before he sighed heavily, his hand moving into your line of vision. “Y/N.”
“Go away, I’m busy.”
“Are you sure you really want to send me away?” You glanced up then; there was something in his tone that enticed you even if you were mad with him.
“Why?”
“I mean, having company as you study is nice right?” he continued and you groaned. You had fallen for his teasing again.
“Jungshin I really need to focus on getting this essay underway because I can’t get my othe–”
A stack of paper was in his hand and he dropped it in front of you then, your eyes scanning the front page of it before you picked it up, flicking through it all. You glanced up at Jungshin, surprised. “This is the information I need.”
“I felt bad for you with the mix up so I went through the book, found all the information we needed and took a copy for us both. I was going to give it to you but then you came at me looking the way you did and well, it was too easy to play with you.”
“I want to hate you still,” you muttered and he chuckled. “But I’m just so relieved I don’t have to wait any longer, thank you Jungshin.”
“I went ahead and wrote some notes down as I studied on my copy before copying yours so feel free to use them if you like,” he mentioned and with a wave he was off again, leaving you reeling from his act of kindness.
It was the push and pull you were used to from the tall man now and right now you couldn’t help but grin at the paper in your hand, the rush of your emotions changing from the encounter.
He was still a jerk, but a thoughtful one.
You stopped studying for your other essay to take a quick look through the copied text, reading over his notes in the margin and agreeing with most of them. You were halfway through when you stopped and read the one at the top of the next page, he hadn’t written anything up there until now.

The message ended with his number and you read it over a few times, biting back your excitement.
You felt the weight of your burdens lift off. You had the required parts of the text and you didn’t have to stress anymore. Now you could prepare both essays with time to spare. Jungshin had played with you and whilst you weren’t exactly fully ready to forgive him, you knew some of it did stem from your irrational behaviour.
Not that you were willing to admit that to him just yet.
But you did have some pressing questions about some of the content missing from his notes. The ones about how he felt about you.
Because you were certain you needed to learn all about them too.

You let out a sigh as you slid onto the bar stool, lifting your hand slightly to catch the bartender’s attention. You thought he saw you, but when he came over... he walked right by.
“Excuse me,” you called out, lifting your hand again.
But still, he either ignored you or didn’t hear.
“Excu --”
“What would you like?” a voice beside you asked.
You jumped a little, shifting your gaze to the person - a man - sitting next to you.
“Oh... um, rum and coke,” you told him with a slightly furrowed brow.
The man, who you could now see was actually quite handsome, lifted his hand. The bartender, of course, stopped what he was doing and came over.
“A rum and coke for the lady,” the man said, nodding toward you.
Once the bartender was on his way, you shot the man a bit of a shy, awkward smile. “Thanks,” you told him.
“No sweat,” he replied, mirroring your smile.
You sat there in silence for a few minutes, your hands fidgeting nervously in your lap as you waited for your drink. And when the bartender finally brought it to you, you wasted no time in taking a rather large sip.
“...Long day?” the man asked with a soft chuckle.
“Long date,” you corrected. “I, uh, just had a blind date at the restaurant across the street, and it... well...”
“Didn’t go too well, I’m guessing.”
“No,” you smirked. And then you angled your body to face this man a little more, stirring your drink with the tiny straw absently. “What... what about you?”
The man let out a sigh, throwing back the last of his own drink before answering you. “Just don’t feel like going home yet.”
“Your wife and kids not letting you get any peace and quiet?” you asked.
“No,” he chuckled, shaking his head. “No, the opposite. Too much peace and quiet. No wife, no kids. No nothing.”
Ah, so he was a lonely one.
Interesting.
“I’m Y/N, by the way,” you told him as you held out your gloved hand to him.
He looked at your hand for a second before taking it, shaking it gently. “Jungshin.”
“So, Jungshin... what do you do?” You took a sip of your drink, raising your eyebrows over at him and awaiting his answer.
“I’m an Ad Man,” he said casually.
“Oh, really?” You tried not to sound too impressed, even though you were. Working for an advertising company had become the hot new thing these days. “Which company?”
“Sterling Cooper.”
“No way!” you chuckled. “My friend, Joan, works there. Do you know her?”
“I think everyone in the office knows Joan,” Jungshin replied with a slight smirk. “She’s kind of hard to miss.”
The two of you spent the next hour or so talking about Joan and his work and your work and your blind date and his lack of blind dates and then, somehow, you were making dinner plans for tomorrow night.
Jungshin helped you put your coat on before accompanying you out the door, holding it open for you as you stepped out into the dark New York night.
“Do you come to this bar often?” he asked, sliding his hands into the pockets of his tailored pants. “I swear, that’s not a pick-up line.”
“No,” you chuckled, feeling your cheeks warm. You weren’t sure if it was because of his eyes gazing at you or because of the two rum and cokes you’d had...
“Okay, good,” he murmured. “Because if I’ve been missing you all this time...”
You hid a goofy smile as you took a step closer to him, your gaze focused on the ground. “No, I actually don’t get out much. But... tonight... I’m glad I did.”
You lifted your eyes to look up at him, just now realizing how tall he really was.
“See you tomorrow?” he asked softly.
You nodded, even though you knew it was crazy to go out on a date with a guy you’d just met in a bar.
But... I don’t know. It just felt right.
“Say ‘hi’ to Joan for me,” you murmured with a slight smirk.
Jungshin chuckled, though he still nodded, even throwing in a sly wink at you. And as you headed off toward the nearest Subway station, you had the strangest urge to find that guy you’d gone on the blind date with. You felt like you needed to thank him for being so boring and sexist and just plain awful. 
Because if he hadn’t, you wouldn’t have needed a drink.

It was a messy top knot, thick scarf, glasses kind of day. The chilly, drizzly weather outside on this dreary Tuesday wouldn’t allow for anything else. 
Even though it was chilly and drizzly, the clouds and sky both a dusty shade of gray, you had to get out of the house. You were working on your final paper for the semester, and the walls of your apartment had become far too confining; you needed space and a cozy atmosphere to help you concentrate. 
So, obviously, you were headed to your favorite coffee shop, The Grind. 
Whenever you needed a change in scenery while working on homework (or your latest idea for a romance novel), The Grind was your go-to. It was small but not too small; you could always find a cozy armchair or table for one. It was busy but not too busy; you always felt welcome and never claustrophobic. The staff was friendly and knew you by name. And they made the best chai tea latte you had ever tasted.
When you opened the door to the local establishment, you were greeted by the familiar sights and smells of a coffee shop. The place was always filled with a warmth from the hot beverages and the burning fire in the small, stone fireplace located in one corner. 
Although you didn't drink coffee, the aroma never failed to comfort you, and, weirdly enough, you found you were able to concentrate better when you were surrounded by this particular smell.
You took your place in the line, about four people deep, clutching at the straps of your backpack. You had come so many times you no longer even pretended to look at the menu, and you usually only had to show your face to the employee at the register to place your order. Today was no different. As you stepped up to the counter, you smiled at Seungyoon and handed him your debit card.
“How much longer in the semester?” he asked, keying in your chai tea latte before swiping your card.
“I'm working on my last assignment due next Monday,” you told him, letting out a little sigh of relief.
“And you only have one semester left, right?”
“Yep! Graduating in May!” you beamed, unable to contain your excitement. It seemed like you had been in school for so long because...well, you had been. You'd gone to college right after high school, and you'd gone to grad school right after college. So, really, you had been going to school every year since you were five. At this point, it would be weird to not be in school.
“You'll still come in here after you graduate, right?” Seungyoon teased, smirking a little as he handed your card back.
“Of course!”
“Oh! By the way... Jiyong quit.”
Your jaw dropped. “What?!”
“Yeah, he found a job at a record label, apparently.”
“Ahhh, okay. That makes sense.” While Jiyong had been a wonderful manager at The Grind, his passion and talent had belonged to music, specifically rap, so no one could blame him or be surprised at this turn of events. “So, do you have a new manager yet?”
“Yeah, he just started yesterday. You'll probably see him around. He's really tall, you can't miss him. And he's into music, too, which is kind of weird.”
You just frowned a little, saying goodbye to Seungyoon before heading toward a table. As you sat down, you thought about how strange it was going to be without Jiyong. He'd been the manager for at least four years, and you could no longer imagine The Grind without him. He was quiet but also powerful, and he had a certain way with people. Plus, he was pretty good-looking. It certainly wouldn't be quite the same with him gone.
You let out a sigh as you opened your laptop, your frown deepening when you came face-to-face with your paper. You were supposed to write ten pages on how the Civil War affected American society, and so far all you had was “When a war is fought among a country’s own citizens, the society of said country is certain to feel a large and lasting impact both economically and socially.” One sentence. A sentence you were fairly proud of, but still only one sentence. You had a lot of work to do.
Your drink arrived as you were in the middle of opening up some of your sources, but your gaze shifted from your computer screen to the employee when you heard an unfamiliar voice say “One chai tea latte for Y/N.”
This must be the new manager because the guy who set your mug down was someone with whom you were unfamiliar. He was certainly tall, and Seungyoon had mentioned such a fact…
“Thanks,” you replied, trying to smile but finding your shyness was getting in the way. Seungyoon had mentioned he was tall and into music, but he hadn't mentioned how cute he was. His facial features were all kind of large but somehow proportionate, fitting his face perfectly. His hair was dark and shiny and it swept over his forehead just so. His skin was quite possibly the smoothest, most radiant skin you had ever seen - not just for a guy, for anyone. And his smile (for he was smiling at you now) was so cute. It made you want to hear him laugh.

“You're very welcome. I'm Jungshin, the new manager. If there's anything you need, just let me know.”
Um, how about your number?
“Okay, I will. Thanks.”
Jungshin nodded, still smiling, before heading to another customer-filled table. Once he was out of earshot, you spotted Seungyoon nearby and hissed his name.
Seungyoon slid into the chair across from you as you closed your laptop. “What's up?”
“Ummmmmmmmmm….the new manager is dreamy.”
“Really?” Seungyoon stretched his neck to find where Jungshin was in the shop, his brow furrowing when he spotted him. “I mean, I guess he's a good-looking guy…”
“What else do you know about him? Is he single?”
“I have no idea… Want me to find out?”
“Yes! But don't mention me!”
“Of course I won't. We’re not in middle school,” he smirked. “I really don't know much else about him except he's tall, he's in a band, and he's our new manager.”
“Find out more about his band.” You would have to research them and find out if they had any gigs.
“Yes, ma’am! I'll report back when I find anything out.”
“Thank you! I owe you!”
Seungyoon knew exactly what favor he wanted, but he would save it until he actually had information to give you.  
Once Seungyoon went back to work, you did, too. You opened your laptop back up and began typing out the rest of your introductory paragraph.

About an hour later, you were just finishing up your third page as well as your latte. You picked up your mug, attempting to take a sip but you were greeted by your distorted reflection in the empty bottom of it. You began to stand up, though none other than Jungshin interrupted you.
“You had…a chai tea latte, right?”
“Oh...yeah,” you answered, smiling shyly.
“I'll be right back.”
You watched as he loped over to the counter and began to work on another chai tea latte. So, he obviously knew his way around a coffee shop. Where had he been before now? After a minute or two, you realized you were staring at him, so when he started back with your new drink you immediately turned to your laptop and began typing again.
“Here you go,” Jungshin murmured as he set your mug down.
“Thank you!”
“Anything else you need?”
“Umm…” you took a deep breath, forcing yourself to say more than just ‘No, I think I'm good!’ “Seven pages on how the Civil War affected American society?” 
You smiled up at him sheepishly, holding back a laugh.
Jungshin chuckled, reaching behind him to scratch the back of his neck. “I really don't think you want my help with that,” he admitted. “I'm terrible at writing papers.”
“Oh, well, I'm good then!”
Jungshin smiled, the hand which had been scratching his neck now making its way down to his jeans pocket. “So, uh, you're in school?”
“Yep. Getting my Master’s in American History.”
“Ah, that would explain the Civil War thing.”
“Yep. Pretty big part of American history,” you chuckled.
“That’s actually really cool. What can you do with a history degree?”
“Well,” you sighed. “I’m hoping to get a job at the city archives. My undergrad minor was historical document preservation, so working with really old papers is kind of my dream job.”
“Wow. I’m pretty sure you’re the first person I’ve ever met who wanted to do something like that as a career.”
“Yeah, I’m a pretty unique nerd.” you smiled at him, trying to hide your now blushing cheeks.
“Nerds are good,” he assured you, smirking slightly. “Without them, our society would be in complete shambles.”
“You know, you are absolutely right.”
“Well...I’ll let you get back to your paper. Again, let me know if you need anything -- beverage related.”
“I will, thanks.”
After he turned away, you bit your lip to keep from squealing. Had that really just happened? Had he just talked to you? And called you a nerd in a good way? This kind of thing never happened to you! If you thought a guy was cute, nothing ever came of it! Either you just never interacted, or the interactions you did have were brief and impersonal. Was it because you had forced yourself to say that part about needing seven pages for your paper? Maybe… but then he had continued the conversation by asking if you were in school. Was he...actually interested in you? Or was he being a friendly manager? You needed to know!!!!!
You finally turned back to your paper with a sigh, adjusting your glasses on the bridge of your nose before your fingers began their quick typing work.
You were able to get five more pages done before you completely crashed. Looking at the clock on your computer, you realized you had been there a total of three, almost three and a half hours. 
After packing up your laptop, you headed to the counter to buy a chocolate croissant; you always ended up feeling bad for staying so long and only spending three bucks on your drink. 
Instead of Seungyoon behind the counter, though, Jungshin was now taking customer orders. Apparently, he was a very hands-on type of manager. 
When you approached, he smiled at you. “Hi there. What can I get you?”
“A chocolate croissant, please?”
“Coming right up.” He grabbed a pastry sheet and carefully pulled a chocolate croissant out of the case. Once he'd handed it to you, you held out your debit card.
“It's on the house,” he told you, waving your card away.
“...Wait, what?”
“You've been working hard for a while, you deserve it.”
“But that's why I wanted to buy something else! I felt bad for being in here so long and only buying one drink.”
“Hey, some people come in just for the free internet and don’t even buy the drink.”
“...Are you sure?”
“Yeah, I saw at least two of them in here earlier.”
“No, about the croissant!”
“Oh! Yeah, I’m sure. I’m the manager, I can do this kind of thing.”
“Well...thank you.”
“You’re welcome. Enjoy.”
You noticed his smile softened a bit as you took a bite. Ugh, it made your heart flutter. You lifted your free hand in a little wave before turning and leaving the shop. It was still rather chilly outside, but the drizzly aspect of the weather had changed into mere cloudiness. 
You really hadn’t noticed a thing about the weather, though. 
You were too busy enjoying your chocolate croissant and daydreaming about the cute new manager of your favorite coffee shop.
You didn’t want to jinx it or anything, but... as you strolled down the sidewalk, munching on your treat as the cold air bit your nose... you had a strange feeling.
Like something big had just happened to you. Or was about to happen.
Like your life had just taken a turn in a different - but definitely not bad - direction.
I don’t know, maybe you were crazy or maybe it was just wishful thinking, but you just felt like something... something was brewing.
...Coffee pun totally intended.

The next morning, you woke up pretty early as you usually did, but decided to wait a little while before heading into The Grind. You figured Jungshin would probably think you came on purpose because you knew he would be there, but...oh well. 
You had shown up at his concert last night. You were getting past the point of having any shame.
The Grind opened at 7am every morning, and you made your way in around 8:30 (which was still really early by some people’s standards). 
You tried not to worry too much about what you wore, but after hearing Jungshin say your outfit last night was cool, you did feel a bit of pressure to look...well, cool. 
It was pretty cold outside, so you threw on a long-sleeved t-shirt with a gray sweatshirt over it, black ripped jeans, and your favorite maroon Converse. You could barely be bothered with your hair and makeup, so you threw it up in a messy bun yet again and slid on your glasses. You found wearing glasses always helped distract from the fact you were wearing very little makeup. 
Before heading out the door, you grabbed a scarf (which, if you hadn’t guessed, was your favorite cold weather accessory) and some gloves.
The Grind was surprisingly quiet for a Sunday morning, especially one that was cold and perfect for a hot cup of coffee or tea. It didn't worry you too much, though, because The Grind had been open for so many years, and it always went through non-busy times. Plus, this meant Jungshin might be able to talk to you some.
As usual, Seungyoon was behind the counter, and he had already rung you up by the time you arrived there, your card in hand.
“Guess what?” he smirked.
“What?”
“Jungshin talked about you earlier.”
“He did?!”
“Yep. He asked how long I've known you, and he said it was really nice of you to come to the show last night.”
“Hmm, interesting…”
You took your card back after he had swiped it, sliding it back into your wallet. “Where is he?”
“In the back doing finance stuff. I can tell him you're here?”
“Nah… well, actually… No, don't. But I mean if you can make it seem casual…”
“Okay,” Seungyoon laughed. “I'll get your drink and then go find him.”
You mouthed a ‘thank you’ before heading toward an empty chair by the fireplace. You regretted not wearing an actual coat because you were now freezing from walking outside for that long. But sitting by the warm fire and drinking your hot beverage would certainly help.
Seungyoon brought your drink a couple minutes later then headed toward the back to try and casually tell his manager that you were here. A relationship better come of all this because Seungyoon really didn't want to be doing all of this for nothing. He pushed through the Employees Only door, strolling down the hall toward the break room. Jungshin’s office door was open, and when he passed by, he heard his boss call out.
“How's it going?”
Seungyoon stopped, taking a couple steps backward and popping his head through the doorframe.
“Okay. Finally got a few customers. Y/N just came in a couple minutes ago.” 
Yeah, he was pretty proud of that delivery.
Jungshin perked up a little, setting his pencil down. “Oh yeah?”
“Mhm,” Seungyoon nodded. “I'm just taking a quick bathroom break, I'll be back out there in a minute.”
“Hey, no worries. Take ten, I'll go on out and take over.”
Seungyoon held back a smirk. “You got it, boss.”

After Seungyoon had left, you curled up in your chair and got out your phone. You really wanted to look through Jungshin’s Instagram again, but you had looked through it last night, and you were sure there was nothing new. Plus, he might come out to talk to you… So you logged in to your school account to check and see if your grades had been posted yet. It was Sunday, so probably not, but it couldn’t hurt to just check.
You typed in your student number and password, waiting for the page to load once you’d logged in. You took this opportunity to take a sip of your drink and scan the shop. 
No Jungshin yet, but also no Seungyoon. Maybe they were still talking. 
Your eyes focused back on your phone, and you clicked on the link to take you to your grades. After scrolling past your previous classes, you found the classes you’d just taken… Wait, your grades had been posted, and you’d gotten A’s in both classes! You smiled widely, keeping yourself from squealing with joy. 
Now you just needed two more A’s to graduate with honors. You were so close you could feel the graduation cap on your head.
“Someone’s having a good morning.”
Your gaze shifted up toward the voice you’d just heard, your eyes landing on none other than Jungshin.
“Oh, yeah,” you chuckled. “My grades were posted.”
“And they were good?”
“Yeah, I got all A’s,” you told him, biting back a smile.
“Wow! Congratulations! You must have worked really hard.”
“Well...kind of, yeah.”
Jungshin gestured to an empty chair nearby. “Do you mind?”
“Oh, no, not at all. Be my guest.”
He sat down, resting his elbows on his knees and sort of wringing his hands together. “So, how much longer do you have left of school?”
“Just one semester,” you told him, taking another sip of your drink. “I’m set to graduate in May.”
“I bet you’re so ready.”
“Yeah, basically. I’ve been in school for so long though, it’s going to be weird not to be.”
“I can understand that. Plus, the ‘real world’ kind of...sucks.”
“Yeah, I'm not looking forward to it,” You chuckled. “I have a job already. Well, an internship, but still. Even having that little taste of the real world is not fun.”
“Where do you intern?”
“The history museum,” you told him, cradling your mug in your hands to keep your fingers warm.
“Oh, really? You must enjoy that.”
“Yeah, I absolutely do. I'm hoping it'll help get me into the archives, but I could probably get hired full-time there if I needed to.”
“Man, I haven't been there in years…”
“You should go! I mean, obviously, I think that. But you should!”
“Well... if I'm gonna go, I'd wanna go with you since you know all about everything.”
Your stomach flipped. Was he...maybe...about to ask you out? Or...what?
“I would gladly be your tour guide,” you smiled.
Jungshin thought for a moment...then took a shaky breath. “Are you free tonight?”
“I believe so.” Oh, god. Oh, god. Oh, god.
“Would you...wanna go with me? To the museum? Tonight?”
Oh, wow, okay, he was 95% most likely asking you out. He could just be trying to be friendly, but…
“Yeah, sure!”
Jungshin smiled, and your heart started doing somersaults.
“What time does it close tonight?”
“Six o'clock.”
“So, should we meet at...4?”
“Yeah, that would work!” You knew you could spend at least three hours there, but not everyone was a nerd like you were. Two hours was plenty of time for the average person.
“Sounds like a plan. I’m actually...really excited.”
“You sound surprised by that. You should be excited!” you smirked.
“I am, I am,” he assured you, laughing sheepishly. “I also should get back to work…”
“Oh, right. I’m being a horrible customer.”
“I don’t think you could ever be a horrible customer.” Jungshin stood, shaking his head slightly. He was pretty sure you could never be a horrible anything.
“Well, I try,” you joked.
“So...I’ll see you later? If not sooner.”
“Yes, you will. 4 o’clock on the dot.” You hid your smile behind the rim of your mug.
“4 o’clock on the dot.” He shot you one last grin before heading toward another customer to see if he needed anything.
When you were sure he couldn’t see, you did a little dance in your chair, just refraining from letting out a squeal. 
Where was Seungyoon?! You needed to tell him about this development in the situation ASAP!
Almost as if he could read your mind (God, you hoped he couldn’t), Seungyoon came back through the Employees Only door and looked around the shop to see what he needed to do. When his gaze swept over your area, you widened your eyes to let him know he needed to get his ass over here. He, apparently, understood your unspoken message because he nodded before heading over there.
“I’m guessing he came to talk to you,” he said softly after taking the seat Jungshin had just occupied.
“Yep,” you beamed.
“I figured. Right after I told him you’d come in, he told me to take a break and that he would take over for a while.”
“I think he asked me out.”
“What!”
“I told him about my internship at the museum, and he said it’d been so long since he’d been there, so I told him he needed to go back. Then he said he’d want to go with me since I know everything about it, I told him I would gladly be his tour guide, and then he asked if I was free tonight. We’re meeting there at 4.”
“How random that we both have museum dates today.”
“Oh my god, you’re right! What time are y’all going?”
“We’re meeting at 3, and we’ll probably have dinner afterward… Y’know, I bet that’s what Jungshin plans to do.”
“You think?”
“Probably! If you guys end up eating dinner, it’s definitely a date.”
You bit your lip, already getting nervous. What were you going to wear?! What if you were so awkward, and he realized he deserved way better?!
Seungyoon put a hand on your arm, obviously sensing your nervousness. “It’ll be fine.”
You let out a breath you hadn’t realized you’d been holding in, smiling warmly at him. “Even if Jungshin and I don’t end up dating, this whole thing has made us kind of really good friends, so I’m glad for that.”
“Yeah, it has, hasn’t it? We’ve never hung out outside of the shop before last night.”
“I wouldn’t even hate hanging out again!”
“Yeah, same. Unless I start dating your sister for real. Then I’ll forget all about you and all my other friends.”
You laughed, rolling your eyes. “I would expect nothing less.” You just hoped he remembered what you said last night about hurting your sister.

You didn’t stay at The Grind as long as you normally did because 1) you had no homework to keep you busy, and 2) you wanted to have plenty of time to come up with a cute but cozy date outfit. 
If this was actually a date. 
You needed to leave your house around 3:40ish, and it was currently almost 10am. That meant you had approximately 5 hours to decide what you were going to wear.
...Hopefully, that would be enough time. You obviously also had to take a shower and do your hair and makeup, so really you had even less time!
After standing in front of your closet and perusing Pinterest for at least an hour and a half, you finally decided on a very simple but chic outfit: your favorite dark wash skinnies, a plain white blouse, a black suede jacket, and your trusty white Chucks (which were now more off-white than white, but whatever). You figured you would throw on a chunky gray scarf before you left and call it a day.
Now you had your outfit figured out, you just had to shower and do your hair and makeup. It was currently just after 12:30pm. All that shouldn’t take three hours right?
Cut to three hours later. 
You had just barely finished doing your makeup because, of course, everything which could go wrong while doing one’s makeup did go wrong, so you’d had to start all over again (doing your eye makeup first this time - you’d learned your lesson). 
You managed to make it out the door right at 3:40pm, and you kept your fingers crossed traffic wouldn’t be bad. You hated being late, and you most certainly did not want to make a bad impression on your first date with Jungshin. You kept trying to tell yourself it wasn’t a date so if it actually turned out not to be, you wouldn’t be disappointed. But your heart kept getting in the way and calling it a date. 
Plus, going to the history museum was basically a perfect first date for you, so you kind of desperately wanted it to be a date.
Thankfully, you arrived at the museum at 3:58, and walking in from the parking lot took less than two minutes, so you would definitively not be late. Praise the Lord! 
As you approached the front of the museum, you saw Jungshin was already waiting. You had to stop walking because...a guy. Who was early? You hadn’t been sure if such a thing existed, but apparently, it did. This was a good sign. Asking you to go to a museum and showing up early? You weren’t sure if it could get much better.
He spotted you when you’d almost reached him so you lifted up one hand in a wave. He waved back, and you could see his smile from here.
“I’m early, but you still beat me,” you said with a slight smirk once you got close enough.
Jungshin lifted his wrist to check his watch. “It’s 4 o’clock now. You’re not early.”
“I pulled in at 3:58!”
“You call two minutes before ‘early’? Hmm, interesting…”
“Yes, I do.” You could tell he was messing with you, so you tried not to sound too serious even though you really did think two minutes before should be considered early.
“Are you ready?” he chuckled.
“Are you?”
“Absolutely.”
You got out your staff ID as you walked inside, showing it to the lady behind the counter. When she waved you both through, Jungshin looked a little confused. He’d gotten his wallet out to buy a ticket, but you were now past the front gate… You turned to ask him where he wanted to start but noticed his puzzled expression.
“What’s wrong?”
“Don’t I need to...buy a ticket?”
“Oh, no. I obviously get in for free, and staff can basically get in any guest for free as long as we don’t bring a huge group of people.”
“Oh. Well. Thank you,” he said, sliding his wallet back into his pocket.
“My pleasure. Where would you like to start? Would you like to go chronologically or by topic?”
Jungshin chuckled, already looking completely lost. “I’ll let you lead the way. This is your world, I’m just visiting.”
You giggled and immediately hated yourself for it. But he was just so cute, you couldn’t help but giggle. Even if it was super annoying.
“Okay, we’ll start from the beginning and work our way to the future.”
“Sounds like a solid plan.”
The two of you spent the next two hours exploring the whole museum; well, by ‘exploring’ I mean Jungshin followed you around and listened intently to your explanations and stories about everything. There really was no actual exploring going on; you knew exactly where you were going, and Jungshin was simply going along for the ride.
Just before 6:00, you were in the middle of talking about the Montgomery Bus Boycott when you heard your manager’s voice come on over the loudspeaker announcing it was just about closing time.
“Guess we should get going,” you said with a bit of a frown. You hadn’t seen everything yet, but you’d made sure to show him your favorite exhibits already, so it wasn’t that big of a deal.
“But what about the rest of it?”
You bit back a smile, glad he seemed into it. “We can come again another time if you want.”
“I think I’ll have to,” he replied, following you toward the exit. “You are honestly the best tour guide.”
“Really?”
“Yeah! You made everything so interesting and easy to understand. You should be a teacher!”
“I thought about it,” you told him, your brow furrowed. “But I’m too much of an introvert to be around so many people all day. I’d rather be holed up in the archives all by myself.”
“Oh, really? I’m more of an extrovert.”
“Yeah, I figured. Coffee shop manager and musician? Both deal with people all the time. If I did either of those, I would be exhausted every single day.”
“Do you know that one personality test with the letters?”
You let out a little gasp. “The Myers-Briggs test! Yes, I love it! What’s your type?”
“I’m an ENFP. We had to take the quiz during orientation for my last job, and I thought it was so cool. It explained me perfectly!”
“I know, right?! “ You told him your type, as well, agreeing that the description of it fit you to a T.
You had reached the exit of the museum by this point, so Jungshin opened the door for you. The sun had already set, for the most part, so it was pretty dark, and the temperature had dropped about ten or fifteen degrees.
“Hey, uh,” Jungshin began, shoving his hands in his pockets. “Do you...wanna go get something to eat?”
You remembered what Seungyoon had said about getting something to eat after the museum. 
This was totally a date.
“I’m starving, and I think my stomach is about to eat itself, so yes.”
Jungshin laughed, a cloud of white vapor escaping from his mouth, showing just how cold it was outside.
“I’m also freezing,” you added, arms crossed tightly over your chest. While your jacket was warm, it was definitely meant more for fashion than function.
“Here, let’s go to my car and figure out where we wanna go.” Jungshin put his hand on the small of your back, guiding you to the parking lot. 
You walked quickly to his car, a red Honda hatchback, and he opened the passenger door for you once you arrived. Once you were safely inside he ran over to the driver’s side, getting in quickly and turning the car on to blast the heat.
“Do you like Mexican food?” you asked, hoping he couldn’t hear your teeth chattering.
“I love it.”
Oh, thank God. “There’s a really good Mexican restaurant down the street, Agua Linda. They have the best salsa.”
“Sounds good to me! Just tell me how to get there.”
“I’m an excellent navigator, no need to worry.”
Jungshin followed your expert directions, arriving at Agua Linda in less than five minutes. The hostess seated you at a small table in the corner, a relatively quiet spot away from the televisions and a quite rowdy party of young ladies seemingly celebrating a bachelorette party. 
You wanted to remark on how annoying they were, but you didn’t want to come off as negative in front of Jungshin just yet. The first few dates were all about making the best impression of oneself; the real stuff could come later. (You really, really hoped there was a ‘later.’)
Now you were face-to-face with Jungshin and you weren’t talking about history, you felt your shyness come back in full force. The comfort of the history museum was gone, and your nervous habits had replaced it. 
You found you couldn’t look him in the eye for longer than a few seconds; you couldn’t figure out where your hands should go (on the table or in your lap?!); basically, everything which came out of your mouth was accompanied by either a nervous chuckle or an apology. You apologized for everything when you were nervous.
After the waitress took your orders and menus, Jungshin frowned slightly at you. “Are...you okay?” he asked, his concern nothing but genuine.
“Oh, yeah,” you chuckled. “Sorry. I’m just...nervous.”
“Why are you nervous?”
Oh, god, why did he have to ask that? “Because… I dunno, I’m just not used to eating dinner alone with a cute guy.”
“But we just spent two hours alone at the museum. You definitely weren’t nervous then.” Rather than sounding accusatory, Jungshin’s tone was one of pure curiosity.
“Well, yeah, but I had all the history to keep my mind off it.”
“Ah, I see… Wait, did you say ‘cute guy’?” A slight smirk came across his lips.
“...Yes?”
“You think I’m cute?” The smirk grew.
“...Yes?” Jesus, your cheeks were practically on fire now.
“Hmm. Interesting.” He bit back a smile before taking a sip of his drink.
“What do you mean ‘interesting’?”
“Nothing,” he replied innocently. “Interesting!”
“What do you mean ‘interesting’?!” you repeated with a laugh.
“I mean it’s interesting you think I’m cute when I also think you’re cute.” He shrugged, his smile definitely hiding something.
“You do not,” you said, eyes slightly narrowed as you looked at him.
“Do, too. Why do you think I always talk to you so much at The Grind?”
“Because...you’re a good manager?”
“Well, I am, but also because I think you’re cute.”
You focused on stirring the ice in your water, biting back a huge smile.
Jungshin watched you, wanting to reach across and take one of your hands. But you were so nervous and shy (and adorable), he didn’t want to make it awkward.
“So…” you said a bit softly, your gaze darting back and forth between him and your drink. “Is this...a date?”
“Absolutely,” he replied, brow furrowed. “Did you not think that before?”
You shrugged. “I wasn’t sure.”
“...Would it make you less nervous if I said it wasn’t a date?”
“No,” You chuckled. “I wanted it to be a date.”
“Okay, good,” he sighed. “Just checking.”
This little conversation broke the ice somewhat, and you started talking about your favorite things - movies, music, tv shows, books, hobbies, and the like. Jungshin was in the middle of voicing his disbelief at you never having seen his favorite movie Back to the Future when the waitress brought your food.
“Well, I’m just going to have to make you watch it,” he announced, picking up one of his tacos.
“Okay, fine,” you chuckled, grabbing your knife and fork and digging into your chimichanga. “After you watch Star Trek.”
“Deal.”
You continued talking in-between bites, and Jungshin made sure to express his satisfaction with his meal numerous times. 
You mentally patted yourself on the back for choosing this place. It was always delicious, of course, but it could be nerve-wracking telling someone a restaurant they’d never been to was good. What if they thought it was horrible? Then they would never trust your opinion again! 
Thankfully, this was not the case tonight.
Jungshin insisted on paying when the check came since you had gotten him into the museum for free - and since it was a date.
“Why does a guy have to pay on a date?” you asked, pursing your lips.
“He doesn’t always have to pay. Just on the first date. After that it’s fair game.”
“Oh, really?” You raised an eyebrow. “So you’ll let me pay next time?”
“Are you asking me on a second date?” he smirked. He knew that would make you blush, and… 
Bingo! There it was.
“No, I was just -- I mean, not no, because I want to -- if you want to -- but I wasn’t --” God, you were a mess.
“I would love to go on a second date,” he assured you, his foot finding yours under the table and nudging it.
You let out a soft sigh of relief. “Me too.”
Once the waitress had brought back Jungshin’s card, you headed back out to the parking lot.
“Oh my god, it is freezing!” you exclaimed, crossing your arms tightly over your chest.
Jungshin immediately took off his jacket and put it around your shoulders.
“Oh -- no, wait,” you stammered, though it was too late to protest. “But you'll be cold.”
“I'll be okay,” he assured you.
“Okay, but let’s still get to your car instead of standing out here any longer.”
“Good idea.”
You rushed over to his car, though Jungshin made sure to open the door for you even though it meant he was left out in the cold longer - with no jacket. 
Once he did get inside, he quickly started the engine and turned the heat up as high as he could. 
All the while you kept thinking of other ways you could get warm, which obviously made you blush because - well, yeah. But your cheeks were already pink from the cold so it didn’t even really matter.
He drove the short distance back to the museum, parking next to your car so you wouldn’t have to bear the cold for too long. 
Before you could leave, he turned toward you.
“Thank you for being my tour guide earlier. I really enjoyed it,” he told you, his hand itching to reach across and take yours.
“Oh, you’re welcome. I hope I wasn’t too boring,” you chuckled, only glancing at him. You were far too nervous to look him in the eyes right now.
“Not at all!” he assured you, his smile very evident in his tone. “I can tell you’re really passionate about history because you make it not boring.”
“Because it’s not boring!”
“Exactly. And you’re obviously passionate about Mexican food, too, because that meal was delicious.”
“I am quite passionate about Mexican food, actually,” You admitted with a laugh.
Jungshin smiled as he watched you smiling, holding back the urge to lean over and kiss you. 
“So, um, I realized that I don’t...have your number, and I was just thinking about how we didn’t get to see everything at the museum, so I would really like to go back and finish one day. I know you come into the shop a lot, but I think it would just be easier if I could call you or something.”
“Oh, yeah, sure!” you replied, finding it awfully cute how he’d come up with a legitimate reason to get your number. 
After he slid his phone out of his back pocket, you told him your number slowly, watching him type it in.
“Great,” he murmured once he’d finished. “So...I can call you?”
“Yeah! Or text me,” you told him with a shrug. You didn’t want to tell him you hated talking on the phone; he was an extrovert, so he probably wouldn’t understand. “I should...probably get going, though.”
“Right, of course. Drive safely, okay?”
“I will,” you assured him as you began to take off his jacket.
“No, keep it,” he said before you could.
“Oh -- what, why?”
“So...you have a good excuse to see me again. To give it back to me.”
You blushed, biting back a smile. You slid the jacket back onto your shoulders. “Okay,” you said softly. “I’ll see you later, then.”
“See you later.”
You quickly got out of his car and into yours, turning it on and putting the heat on full blast. 
You honestly couldn’t believe tonight had just happened. 
You’d just gone on a date with the guy you’d been crushing on. You were currently wearing his jacket, and he’d told you to keep it so you’d have a good excuse to see him again. And he had your number.
As you were driving home, you saw your phone light up with a notification, but you couldn’t quite tell what kind of notification it was. When you arrived at your apartment, you checked to see and were more than excited to find a text message from a number you didn’t have saved. It was easy to guess who it was, though, since the message said:

Obviously, you went to sleep with a smile on your face that night. In fact, you were in such a good mood that whole week, your co-workers at the museum kept asking what was going on. 
It wasn't until Lena, the lady who'd been working at the front desk on Sunday evening, said you had come in with a tall, cute guy the other day when everyone understood.
“So you got yourself a boyfriend, then,” your co-worker, Harriet, said with a smirk as you ate dinner together on your break on Wednesday.
“No! He's not my boyfriend,” you corrected. “We’ve been on one date.”
“Are you going on a second?”
“...Yes.”
“Oooooh, girl! What's he like? Tell me everything.”
You tried to hold back a smile as you told Harriet all about Jungshin, even reading some of the text messages he’d sent over the past couple days.
“He really likes you,” Harriet smirked, nudging your side.
“You think? I really have no clue about boys,” you chuckled, your cheeks flushing at your admission.
“He does, trust me. He’s acting just like my husband did when we were first dating.”
You let out another chuckle, lifting your shoulders up into a shrug. “Well, great, now you got my hopes up that I'm going to marry him!”
“Maybe you will!” she said with a wink.
“Well... if I do, you will definitely be invited to the wedding.”
