If for a second you saw a new chapter posted by me.....you didn't 🥹
My stupid ass today learnt why everyone is raging about not writing the new content on AO3 but rather write it on word or Google docs. I wrote quite a lot this week, but I did it on my phone, while my stupid ass had open the editing tag on my laptop too. Apparently, my sleep deprived mess of a self decided it would be a nice idea to save the old draft on my computer and now all my progress is gone 😭
Not to mention the fact that while I was realizing what happened I accidentally posted the old draft 🥹
So yeah, lesson learnt the hard way. I'm keeping everything on word now 🥹

after working my way through the kbcu (kim beom cinematic universe) i’m now convinced the writers of tale of the nine tailed built rang specifically for him based off of all the previous characters he played
KBCU - Has a nice ring to it 😀
You know, I happened to watch Lee Ro-joon after TOTNT and I felt many times that it might have been some sort of audition for Rang. He gets on my nerves as the handsome CEO with an evil smirk, but at the same time, just looking at him in Mrs. Cop 2 does things to me (something I’ll leave to your imagination)
As for Rang - yeah, that role feels tailor made for Beom. And he’s the only one who got the best character development (amongst the lot) in both the seasons, though I’m pissed with a lot of things the writers did to him. At least he wasn’t bland like Yeon or Ji-ah (my opinion only and a very strong one)
Talking about Beom, my favourite subject - from BOF to Still marry me to Padam Padam to Hidden Identity to Ghost Doctor to Law School and of course TOTNT - I have no words for the man’s versatility.
A lot of times I feel he’s underrated and deserves to be much much more popular.
I know he won’t be up to it, but I’d give an arm and a leg to see him do a rom-com 😊😊
As I sign of, I’ll leave his fans something to gaze at

Lee Jun ordered Jang Hyuk to dethrone Park Ji-yeon
Tumblr media
The truth that 'Red Single Heart' Lee Jun planned was revealed.
In the KBS 2TV Monday-Tuesday drama 'Red Single Heart', which was broadcast on the 14th, Yoo-jeong (Kang Han-na) expressed her disappointment with Lee Tae (Lee-jun).
On this day, Park Gye-won (Jang Hyuk) thrust a knife into Choi Ga-yeon (Park Ji-yeon)'s neck. Soon, Park Gye-won was in danger of being rebelliously sent to Uigeumbu. Ga-yeon Choi said, "Ui-geumbu is not allowed. Lock her in my office. I will ask her for the crime later."
Upon hearing this news, Lee Tae said, "The public servants are being sentenced to death. There is no way the left-hander can tolerate it," and Jung Eui-gyun (Ha Do-kwon) said, "The left-hand man was locked up in my office building trying to assassinate Dae Dae-mama." At this, Lee Tae said, "There's no way that sitting is so stupid. Isn't this tyranny?" and asked, "Why are the people who suppressed their actions one by one with the law, cause, and filial piety in front of them, all of a sudden being silent?" .
When Lee Tae heard the news of his pregnancy, he went to visit Yoo Jung. Lee Tae said to Yoo Jung, "I'm sorry. I made you go through that hardship alone as a pregnant body. I will never leave you alone again."
Yoo-jeong said, "Donggeum is dead. He died on behalf of those who tried to kill me. Daedamama is a tyrant. She is a female soldier. You can't leave it like that. Even if it's filial, you have to do it for the people and for the royal family. There is no time. If the tyranny is prolonged, you do not know how hard the people will suffer. Please depose Daedaemama as soon as possible."
Yoojung said, "I have a dream that my Highness falls down in front of me, vomiting blood. Even before she dies, she's a poop." "If you go to hell, you will find someone who tried to poison you. The person who tried to assassinate your Highness may be behind the battle. He said, "It's not something that's happened. I'm the one who threw the country into chaos by taking a preparatory war. I won't forgive you."
Lee Tae said, "I feel weak. The more things I have to protect, the more impatient and the fear grows." When Yoojung asked, "What are you so afraid of?" Lee Tae said, "I was afraid that I would not be able to protect you. Now I am afraid of losing you."
Hearing this, Yoojung replied, "I tried to marry a man I didn't know, twice. I told him about it both times. It's a relationship that heaven has established. It's a bond that cannot be easily broken."
Lee Tae ordered Jeong Eui-gyun to evacuate Hae-gang (Oh Seung-hoon). Jung Eui-gyun delivered a message to Haegang, but Haegang headed to the palace, saying, "Father, I will do the last thing I need to do. Don't worry too much." When Choi Ga-yeon heard the news that Lee Tae had woken up, she was furious, saying, "Joo Sang lied to me."
Lee Tae was haunted, and he had a tense nerve battle with Choi Ga-yeon, who blocked the way, and Yoo-jeong pursued Heo Sang-seon (Cha Soon-bae). Heo Sang-seon, who was contemplating how to get out of the palace, moved to the secret passage of the library. Yoo-jeong predicted that he had moved to the secret passage, and Lee Tae blocked the entrance to the secret passage.
Lee Tae told Park Gye-won, "Your public servants should dethrone Mamma. That is the only way to sustain a miserable life." In response, Park Gye-won knelt down, saying, "I will dethrone Dae Dae-mama by obeying His Majesty's will."
Yoojung said, "There were servants who did not appear in the Convergence Purity of Big Mama." He shed tears, saying, "Did your Majesty's Majesty have all these things that endangered the country by making Convergence Clean?"
On the other hand, KBS 2TV's Monday-Tuesday drama 'Red Single Heart' is a bloody political romance between King Lee-tae, who has to throw away the woman he loves to survive, Yoo-jeong, who has to become a war in order to survive, and who become stills, aiming knives at each other's necks. It airs every Monday and Tuesday at 9:30 PM.

Can’t Go On Like This
warnings: none
era: beginning of May 2021
❀ When, the one and only, Lee Soo Man joins one of JiHo’s meetings, he reminds her of what her future could look like if she’d stop sabotaging herself
Tumblr media
The noise of fingers tapping against the wooden table in the otherwise silent meeting room, sounded absolutely deafening. The tension was so thick, JiHo was sure you could cut it with only the sharpest of knifes. It was a suffocating feeling, even after having been in this same exact room for hours almost each day of the past month or two.
A fake cough caught everyone’s attention and all eyes were on the one and the only, Lee Soo Man. JiHo’s eyes were blown wide and were lingering with slight fear but more so pure youthful naivety. “JiHo…” The man started which caused the girl to sit up straight and nod in acknowledgment.
“We don’t want to take you out of the group. You know this. But JiHo… We can’t let you go on like this.” JiHo knew exactly what he was referring to and it was embarrassing that it came to a point were the staff she’d previously talked to had to get the founder of the company involved.
The man continued. “There’s no reason to keep you here if you keep declining our offers, it also looks very bad on us. Your fans want exactly what we can, and have tried, to give you.” He put emphasis on that last sentence which made JiHo want to bury herself deep into the ground, but she kept her composure as to stay professional in the situation. “If you keep saying no however because of, what your managers have told me at least, is your lack of confidence, then we will have to let you go and not try to save your contract.”
JiHo could feel the eyes of her closest female manager burn into the side of her face. Kim Yebin had been working with her since 2019 and had practically become her best and closest (female) friend. She was a bit like a older sister or a cool aunt that took care of her, but also treated her as an equal. She only wanted the best for JiHo, and sometimes the that meant that she had to be a little harder with her. The young idol wasn’t particularly stubborn, but when it came to her confidence or her own mental health, JiHo didn’t know how to take care of herself in that way.
For the past few weeks, and even over the course of her working with JiHo, Yebin had always pushed her to be more confident and sure of herself. She always had to remind JiHo that she had no reason for her to doubt herself and JiHo would usually listen, but the second Yebin turned her back, JiHo started doubting herself again.
“JiHo it’s time to start believing in yourself. We already do. Me, your fans, the boys, your family and even the whole company does. There’s no reason for you not to do so yourself.” Yebin pressed a few days ago.
Remembering the words JiHo’s manager had told her, she quickly glanced her way and send her a small smile, before focusing on Lee Soo Man again.
“We’ve given you so many opportunities many idols and trainees can only dream about. We as a company spent a lot of energy in not only NCT but you as an individual member as well. Don’t let that energy go to waste. Now that we cleared up the misunderstandings it’s time to move on and move up. Understood?” JiHo nodded before answering with a firm “Yes, sir. Thank you, sir.” The smallest of smiles tugged at the corners of his mouth before he started to exit the room.
“Tomorrow we’ll have the meeting with Kim So Yeon, the CEO of Esteem. I want to move that meeting to the second floor lounge, so I need someone to reserve that room and notify the front desk so they sent our guests to the right place tomorrow.” He explained to the staff and not long after he left the room.
JiHo let out a big breath she didn’t realise she was holding in before dropping her head on the table in front of her. Her body trembled slightly as the nerves that had started to build up from the second she knew that Lee Soo Man was joining the meeting until now, began to subside.
JiHo felt the small hand of her manager start to run up and down her spine to sooth her. “Unnie~” The girl whined. “I know JiHo. Just... I know I’ve said it so much lately, but honestly, stop doubting yourself.” JiHo tilted her head so she could look at Yebin who watched her with a motherly gaze. “It’s not that I don’t think I’m good enough...”
The girl sat up and looked straight into her manger’s eyes. “It’s like when they asked me to join Dream.” A small sigh escaped JiHo’s lips. “It’s not that I wasn’t confident in my skills. I just felt like Dream should’ve been only the boys. I didn’t think I’d look good with them.” Yebin and one of the group’s other mangers sighed and shook their heads. “This is exactly not being confident in yourself.” Yebin explained which made JiHo mouth an “oh” in realisation.
“If you debuted in Dream, all the fans would have know was Dream with the seven boys and you. And they would’ve loved it, just as much as they love you with the boys now.” The other manager decided to add on to Yebin’s words. “It would’ve been just the same as if you agreed to debut with NCT U back in 2016. You did everything! Sang the guide for the song. You participated in making the performance. You did so much, you proved you could do it and then one day we hear that you decided not to go through with it and continued on as a trainee leaving the boys oblivious to the fact that you were planned to be added to the group since the start. JiHo you didn’t just have to potential, you had and still have the skill to back everything up. So believe us when we say that there’s no reason for you to ever decline an opportunity because you can do it.”
Even though the words were meant to be words of encouragement, JiHo couldn’t help but feel a bit guilty about everything. She had never told the boys about what kind of opportunities she had gotten from SM before and even after her debut. She felt guilty for keeping it all a secret, for changing how things could’ve been.
Being aware of JiHo’s internal turmoil, Yebin placed a hand on JiHo’s thigh and gave it a friendly squeeze. “Cheer up baby doll! From now on things will be better. And to start things off I’ll treat you to dinner.” The mention of food sparked a bit of excitement which was very clear to Yebin and made her chuckle. “You’ve become too much like the boys. You’re all just little kids.” She dramatically ‘complained’. Yebin reached out for her purse and then beckoned to JiHo. “Let’s go!”
When Yebin walked out of the room she heard a rushed shuffling and a taller figure retreating towards the practise rooms. The brown locks and the stature of the person seemed a bit familiar. But with the amount of people Yebin saw daily - whether that was consciously or not - Yebin couldn’t quite put a name to it. It probably wasn’t someone too close to her, since she prided herself in being good with people - names and appearances.
“Unnie, what are you looking at?” Yebin’s eyes must have been lingering in the direction the person disappeared for a while, because she didn’t notice JiHo joining her by her side. “Oh nothing! Let’s just go.” She sent the confused looking girl a warm smile before they headed towards the elevators. “Good, because I’m starving! I was so nervous for the meeting, I couldn’t eat all day.” JiHo complained while holding her stomach of which she was sure could start growling any second now - thank the Gods it didn’t start while she was still in the meeting. “JiHo! I told you not to skip meals even when you don’t feel like eating. You’re already getting so thin lately.” “I’m sorry, I’ll try to eat next time.”
With that both woman left the building to enjoy a meal together and take a break from the endless meetings and stress filled situations.
---
Side Note: The title might change as well as the little description/summary, and this wasn’t proofread because I’m on a little time crunch. I’ll revise it asap if needed! Also who was that, who Yebin spotted???
Have a good day/evening/night <3

Time passed within a blink of an eye. Without realizing, another week was gone, and it was the day of my thesis defense, and Joohyun’s too. I had not contacted her again after our little catch-up the week before, as both of us were busy to prepare our thesis defense. The two of us might joked around about it saying it was a piece of cake as we both have been through a lot of business presentations anyway; but it was still nerve-wrecking nonetheless. My business with the thesis defense was also to act as a distraction of what happened with Sehun himself and from my talk with Joohyun- it led me to an option that I had never thought about before for my future. Some said that it was extremely rushed, and I had to agree that it was, but nor I neither the people around me knew what else to do with the situation. In the end, it was agreed that my decision was sort of the best option available for me to get over the heartache; to get over Oh Sehun.
“Don’t worry too much, I’m sure you did great,” my brother’s words knocked me out of my thoughts. I looked up at him with a small smile, “Still, can’t help but to worry,” I shrugged. I had just finished my defense a few minutes ago, and the Professors were currently discussing my result inside the meeting room. I was outside of the meeting room with my siblings- they had waited for me from the very beginning. My parents were unfortunately away for a meeting in another city right now, but they would return later today, so we could still have a celebration tonight. Jongdae was also supposed to come, but he was probably still on his way to KU, since my sister did say that he was still in the middle of a meeting when I was about to start my presentation two hours ago.
The door to the meeting room opened, and Professor Lee Sunhee popped her head out of the room, “Come in, Seoyeon,” she smiled, “We have your result,” she went back inside the room. Both my siblings gave me a brief hug, then I inhaled a deep breath and went in after her. Professor Lee Sunhee, my supervisor while I was an intern at Kyunghee, was also my thesis supervisor, somehow, but she was counted as an ‘off-campus’ supervisor, as she was not a Professor in KU. Therefore, KU also invited her as an attendant in my thesis defense, and so here she was. I only know about this last night though, because she suddenly sent me a text to cheer me up for my defense today. It made me wonder on how she knew when my defense was, and she told me about it then.
“So, how did you think you do, Seoyeon?” one of the examiners, Professor Kwon asked me. “I don’t know, honestly,” I shrugged with an unsure smile, wondering on whether my other friends had this kind of small talk before the announcement. My other examiner, Professor Dong smiled reassuringly at me, “Just relax Yeon-ah, your presentation was good,” he started. “You explained all the important points of your thesis well within fifteen minutes only, and the confidence that you exuded while presenting was amazing too,” he continued. “We know that you are used to do business presentation in your family’s company, so I think that sort of helped your performance today,” Professor Kwon continued. I gave out a thankful yet sheepish smile at that, “I suppose you can say that.”
“You also answered the questions smoothly, and so,” he looked at me, giving that dramatic pause. “We have no choice...” he paused again and it made me groan. Both Professor Lee and Professor Dong snickered at the stink eye I gave Professor Kwon. Both of my examiners were among the first Professors in our major, which mean that they have taught me since I was a freshman. It was a definite that we were close, and could act as friends sometimes, when it was not in class. “You’re so sensitive these days,” Professor Kwon rolled his eyes. “You get an A,” he told me before I could retort back. I froze up in shock, not believing on what I just heard, “What?”
“Congratulations!” Professor Lee ran up to me and hugged me. The two males also came up to me to congratulate me. “You did so well, we can’t give anything else other than an A to you, Yeon,” Professor Dong congratulated me. “Wow,” the surprise on my face was still evident, as Professor Kwon snickered after congratulating me. “Now, let’s take a picture first, then you can go out.” We took turns in taking the picture, and even called up my brother to help taking a picture of the four of us. Neither me nor the Professors told him the result just yet though. Once done, my brother went out first as the Professors told me a little on which part I should revise, before submitting the final version next week.
“It’s up to you on how you want to submit them, you can either send it to me or Professor Lee here or Professor Dong and we’ll take care of it for you, or through one of your friends or siblings, either way is fine for us,” Professor Kwon commented before I could remind him that I would not be here in person for the submission. “Professor Kwon and I will also personally talk this out with the school, as you’ve gained permission up until the Dean anyway, so don’t worry about it,” Professor Dong added. I grinned sheepishly at that, “Sorry for troubling all of you Professors.” Professor Lee waved her hand dismissively, “No need to worry about that Yeon-ah, just do your best, and best of luck for your studies.” I smiled gratefully at them for understanding my situation- like I said, my decision was extremely rushed and possibly rash, but the decision had been made.
“Oh, right! When is your flight by the way?” Professor Lee asked before I exited the meeting room. “Ah, on Monday evening,” I grinned sheepishly, knowing full well that they had the same thought as me and basically everyone else around me. “You’re really...” Professor Dong trailed off, and it was picked up by Professor Kwon, “Rushed and rash,” he nodded his head knowingly. “I know, Professors, you guys are not the first to say that,” I scowled at him. I heard those words too many times to count already just within a week. “Well anyways, good luck with your studies, and don’t forget to visit us whenever you’re here,” Professor Dong was the one to stop our bantering this time. “Now, get out of here,” Professor Kwon shooed me after he and Professor Lee wished me luck too. I only scrunched my face at him but still thanked them all once more before getting out of the room.
“I got an A!” I blurted out in excitement once I got out. My sister squealed and hugged me, then my brother did the same. “Oh my God, congratulations!” my sister yelled- she seemed to be more excited than I was. “We know you can do it,” my brother smiled and ruffled my hair. I smiled back at them. “By the way, here are for you,” each of them produced a flower bouquet, pink lilies from my brother, and yellow tulips from my sister. I took them both with a grin- both were one of my favorite flowers, “Thank you Eonni, Oppa.”
“And this is another one for you,” another bouquet of sunflower was suddenly presented on my face from my right. Surprised, I turned and found the owner of the hand to be my sister’s boyfriend. “Congratulations Yeon,” he side-hugged me. “Thanks, Jongdae-oppa,” I only grinned as I could not hug him back due to the numerous bouquets on my hand. “Thank you for coming, you really don’t have to, you know?” I told him. The temporary President of Samsung was a bit out of breath, and I assumed that he was running here from his car. He just shrugged, “Here, let me help you,” he took all my bouquets. “I can-”
“Congratulations, Choi Seoyeon,” another voice from behind me stopped me from taking my bouquets back from Jongdae. I turned around, and my jaw went slack upon seeing him. The unexpected male chuckled at my speechlessness. “Surprise?” he tilted his head. I snapped out of my initial surprise and immediately went to engulf him in a bear hug, dismissing my other bouquets that was now held by Jongdae and my sister.
“Junmyeon-oppa!” I pulled away from the hug with a huge grin. He mirrored my expression and handed me the bouquet of peach colored roses that he was holding. “What- how-” I could not form my questions properly due to the surprise. He patted my head with a soft smile on his face, “I would not miss your defense for the world- nor your graduation later on.” I rolled my eyes, but the smile could not be wiped out of my face. As much as I would like to nag him, he already flew all the way back to Seoul anyway. “So that’s why you didn’t call and only texted me last night,” I wondered with a smile. He chuckled again, “Yeah, you would’ve known that I was on the plane if we video-called.”
“So,” the other three approached me and Junmyeon; the couple was holding on to my other bouquets, while my brother was holding on to my other stuffs. “Let’s take a picture in front of the old library,” he said as I took some of my stuffs from him- my phone, mainly. “Then we can go have dinner with our parents too- you choose where you want to eat at, Yeon.” I blinked my eyes at them, “Fish and chips.” Jongdae rolled his eyes at that, “Of course, what else could she want other than going back to the UK,” he muttered under his breath. I slapped his arm at that, “I’m not going back to the UK,” I scowled at him then turned my phone on. Jongdae rolled his eyes back playfully, “Oh yeah, you’re going to another different continent.” I ignored him and proceeded to call my parents to tell them about my defense and where to have dinner later- they had just landed back at Gimpo airport, apparently.
“Right, your friend, Bae Joohyun, is having her thesis defense today too, right?” Junmyeon, who was standing beside me, started after I finished calling my parents. There were many other students who had just finished their thesis defense and were taking pictures in this iconic place too, so we were kind of queuing to take our pictures. “Oh, yeah,” I nodded my head. “Our defense starting time was exactly the same, but I don’t know whether she’s done or not, so I’ll probably just text her later,” I told him. It was unfortunate, really, because for as long as we remember, both of us promised to be there for each other on our thesis defense. But nothing could be done about our coincidental defense time.
“By the way, Oppa,” Junmyeon hummed. “For real, why are you here?” I wondered. He scrunched his face playfully at me, “What, I’m not allowed to come to your defense now?” I snorted at that, “You know what I mean,” I rolled my eyes at him. He sighed, “Well, I do have a monthly board meeting on Monday morning, so why not just return a few days earlier,” he shrugged. “And don’t worry, everything is already settled there, so I have nothing to do for now anyway,” he added. “You do know that you don’t have to come here, literally,” I told him, “And what, Samsung can’t afford a teleconference meeting now?” I raised a brow at him. He scowled at me, “It’s the third time I heard that- can’t you just be thankful that I actually came here for you?” I snickered at his response and gave him a side-hug as my other hand was still holding onto the rose bouquet that he gave me, “Fine, thank you so much for your attendance, President Kim,” I exaggerated on his title, my lips tilted up in a teasing smile. He just shook his head with a small smile on his face.
“Come on, it’s our turn!” my sister dragged me up to the perfect spot to take picture. We took the pictures by turn, each one of them with me holding the bouquet they gave me, some pictures with both my siblings and then with both the Kim-s, and finally the whole group- we asked the people who were going to take their photos after us for help. After taking a whole lot of pictures, the men helped with my bouquets and stuffs, while my sister and me were looking and commenting on some candid pictures while walking back to our cars. My siblings and I were going to be in a car, while Jongdae and Junmyeon would be riding Jongdae’s car. Turned out, my siblings already knew that Junmyeon was going to come, and they were lying when they told me that Jongdae was having a meeting before coming to KU- he was actually picking Junmyeon up at the airport.
“Choi Seoyeon!” someone called my name. We all looked behind us where the voice was coming from, and Bae Joohyun was smiling widely at me. I immediately ran up to hug her as the others took slow steps instead. “Joohyun-ah!” I released our hug, “How’s your defense?” She grinned at me, and I knew the answer before she said it, “I got an A! And you? You must’ve got an A too, right?” I only grinned back at her and we both squealed in delight while congratulating each other.
“Seoyeon-ah,” another voice called me. It was only then I noticed the presence of another person behind Joohyun. My smile dimmed a little, not expecting him to be here- but I kind of guessed it at the same time. “Hi, Sehun,” I greeted back politely. “Congratulations on your defense,” he sent me an unsure smile. With the same polite and business-like smile on my face, I nodded my head, “Thanks,” then turned my attention back to Joohyun, not giving him anymore attention. “So, where are your parents? And did Kim Jongin and Kim Heechul ditched on you?” I raised a brow at her. She scrunched her face in reply, “I think my parents are with yours- they mentioned something about having a meeting with the Choi-s-”
“Wait, seriously?” I blinked my eyes in surprise at the new information. “They didn’t tell me that...” I pursed my lips. Then, as if lightbulbs were turned on in our heads, both Joohyun and I deadpanned. “They ditched us,” Joohyun started. “Yeah, and currently just got back from having fun in Jeju,” I continued. By then, my siblings and the Kim-s were already standing near us. “Heechul-hyung doesn’t come?” my brother asked Joohyun.
“He was here earlier with Jongin, but they got an emergency call in the office, and so they were gone,” Joohyun shrugged. “They said they will come to my house tonight,” she added. Both my siblings and the Kim-s then congratulated Joohyun on her successful defense, but barely acknowledge Sehun who was still standing behind Joohyun. Upon seeing the four of them, I got a feeling that Sehun wondered whether something was wrong as I could feel the chilly glares from behind me, and it was not directed to me at all. I saw that Sehun wondered if he had done something to offend the four, but I suppose he was not that dense since he did not dare to voice them out. All the while, I ignored the tension in the air and kept on engaging Joohyun in a conversation- it was also to distract her from finding out the situation at hand.
“Yeon, I think we should go now,” Junmyeon called me out, “Your parents are calling Siwon-hyung now, they probably just got out of the airport and on their way already,” he added. Just then, Joohyun’s phone also rang. She pursed her lips upon seeing that it was her parents. “And I suppose my parents just got out of the airport too,” she said. “You know, let’s celebrate later, after the final deadline, just the two of us,” she told me with a smile. “I need a little girls time to get away from him,” she playfully jabbed a thumb at Sehun who was still slightly standing behind her. “You don’t tell me that he’s possessive as hell as a boyfriend,” she scrunched his face. I chuckled at that although my heart was thumping painfully. While the news was supposed to not be a surprise for me, I still did not expect them to spill it out just like that. Junmyeon, on the other hand, did not see that coming, “Both of you are dating?”
“Uh, yeah,” Sehun scratched his head as the two of them blushed, “We just started dating a few days ago,” he told us. I forced a smile at them, “Congratulations,” I felt Junmyeon tightened his grip on my shoulder- of course, he would know how I really feel. “You guys better treat each other well and make each other happy, okay?” I pointed a finger at them. “Yeah, congratulations” Junmyeon added with a nod of his head. Joohyun came forward to hug me, “Thank you so much, Yeon-ah,” she whispered. I hugged her back as tightly as I subtly could, “It’s nothing, just promise me that you’ll be happy,” I whispered back, trying to hold my tears back. We released the hug and she nodded her head at me as the answer from before. “Now, let me answer my mom’s call, and see you next week!” she waved a goodbye. I did not dare to answer her and simply waved back.
“Let’s go,” I told Junmyeon, ignoring the presence of Oh Sehun who still stood in front of us. “Wait! Yeon-ah-” Sehun stopped us just as Junmyeon started to stir me away from him. “Yes?” I asked once we faced him again. “I... uhm...” he glanced at Junmyeon for a brief second, “Can I talk to you? Alone?” I felt Junmyeon squeezed my shoulder- it was a silent question whether I wanted to be left alone with Sehun or not. I glanced up at the older male and nodded my head. Junmyeon pursed his lips, not trusting Sehun enough to leave the two of us alone, but he respected my decision. “Oh Sehun,” he nodded as a final greeting to the younger male. “President Kim,” Sehun replied back. Junmyeon walked back to my siblings and his cousin, who were all subtly spying at me and Sehun.
“So...” Sehun started again once he was sure that Junmyeon was out of hearing range. “That night at the airport, Kim Junmyeon was implying about me, right? And not Kim Jongdae?” he asked me straight to the point, without any other talk. “Huh?” I definitely did not see it coming. “He...” Sehun licked is lips, “He was very hostile when he said it, and I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t have talked about Jongdae like that,” he added. I pursed my lips, not exactly knowing how to reply him. What he said was the truth anyway.
“I’m sorry,” Sehun continued, not waiting long enough to let me reply him. “I... didn’t realize that you were lonely after I left Suwon- you really should’ve just told me, you know?” I wanted to scream at him right then and there; that yes, I was lonely- but it was not simply because he left Suwon, but because he ignored me and it had actually happened before he finished his internship. It fucking hurt knowing that he only used me as a rebound- he came to me when Yoo Aeri broke up with him, but then simply erased me out of his life when he found Bae Joohyun. I really wanted to yell it out to him, but I could not.
“Junmyeon-oppa was really talking about Jongdae-oppa though, what are you talking about?” I forced a smile out of my face. Hearing the words from my own mouth seemed to reassure him that it was the truth as I could see him visibly relax. However, it was nowhere near the truth. Junmyeon’s reasons that night were mere lies- Jongdae’s deadline for his thesis submission had been announced even before I became an intern at Kyunghee, and it was a public knowledge that the thesis defense usually happened within a month after the thesis submission. In other words, from the very beginning when I moved to Suwon, we already knew that Jongdae was going to graduate months before I finished my internship.
“But you were lonely, weren’t you?” he muttered. I sighed, “It has passed anyway, so just forget about it,” I told him. “And congratulations again, with Joohyun,” I added. He finally smiled and let go of the topic earlier. It pained my heart when he seemed to be happy to finally talk about another topic, although he was the one who started it even though I did not want to talk about it too.
“Thank you, Yeon-ah,” he sincerely thanked me. “Like I said, Joohyun and I can get to know each other thanks to you, so let us repay you back one day,” he smiled at me. I simply hummed in reply, not believing my own voice. Any further talk about it, I would have cried right then and there- and probably spilled out that there might be no more ‘one day’ for us anytime soon, or ever again. Thankfully, I was saved by a call on his phone.
“Oh, it’s Joohyun,” he took his phone out of his pocket. “Well, I have to go now, see you around, Yeon-ah, and congratulations on your defense once again,” he smiled again and turned around to look for his girlfriend. I stared sadly at his retreating back and let the tears fall freely from my eyes.
“Goodbye, Oh Sehun.”
Goodbye, my first love.

A/N: And there goes the end of 'Been Through'! Before anyone get angry, yes, it is not a happy ending, because I've never meant for the story to have a happy ending. In case you don't realize, I've categorized the genre with 'angst' and 'drama', without 'romance' or 'fluff' or anything of a kind. I've also tagged them as a 'slice of life', because the story is a literal slice of life. Of course there are parts that I changed and added for the sake of this story, but you can say that around 60-70% of what happened in the story is based on personal experience. That's why if you thought that there are some part that seems too weird or too realistic or too well-thought just for a fanfic like this- those parts are probably the ones that happened in real life haha. It was a complicated and tough time, really, and looking back now... I honestly wondered if all of this really happened just a few years ago.
Anyway, I have a few ideas in mind now for a short side-story and/or sequel, so wish me luck and pray for me so I can finish them soon and start posting them here~ >< It won't be as depressing, I promise haha. And for the mean time, you can also check an abruptly made and out of nowhere short side-story/sequel: 안녕 (Hello). Until next time, and thank you for reading and staying with this story until the end~

----------
“I managed to take out his tumour, but I’ll need him to stay for a few days just so that he can recover fully. He’s under anesthesia for now but he should be up soon,” Kevin flips through his newest patient’s medical file and scans the page for his details. His name is Yeon Hanjo, eight years old, who had suddenly collapsed to the ground a week ago with no indication of an illness whatsoever. An MRI scan of his head and body had shown that the small child had been keeping a tumour hidden within the side of his skull for some time and after some thorough deliberating and research about the best methods to go about the operation, Kevin had managed to successfully draw the tumour out without any mishaps or complications.
Mrs. Yeon bows before Kevin once more with barely restrained tears coating her eyes. She holds a tissue in her hand, which seems already wet and crumpled into a ball, and Kevin reaches out with another tissue that she takes gratefully.
Mr. Yeon is at her side, one hand on his wife’s shoulder to provide her comfort, “Thank you, thank you so much Dr. Moon. We--We don’t know what we would’ve done without you.”
Kevin lets out a small, genuine smile, “it’s my duty. Hanjo’s life is just as important as anybody else’s, if not more.”
A few hours after the parents have left and Kevin has done his rounds as he is supposed to, he makes way to Hanjo’s room with a box of chocolate in hand.
Hanjo is already awake, blinking at the night sky from his hospital bed. The child turns his attention towards the door when Kevin pokes his head in with a smile, “hello Hanjo. How are you feeling?”
The child shrugs, and looks away.
Being familiar with the way children react when they are forced into an unfamiliar setting where strangers prevail, Kevin steps in, closes the door behind him and takes a seat at Hanjo’s bed. The child is still not looking at him, chin adamantly pointed towards the outside world.
“I bought something for you,” Kevin opens up his box of chocolates and offers him the box. Hanjo peeks into it for a few seconds of silence, looks up at his face, then pushes the box away.
While Kevin isn’t used to children not wanting any chocolate, that doesn’t dissuade him from trying. He closes the box and sets it on Hanjo’s bedside table.
“In a few days, you can go back home. Aren’t you glad?” Kevin chats on despite the reluctance in Hanjo’s body behaviour, “what’s the first thing you want to do when you go back, Hanjo?”
Still, the child stays silent. Kevin sees his lower lip tremble but decides it is better off not to mention it. He takes it as a fact that Hanjo might be shy, unwilling to converse because he’s a stranger. The only solution to that though is for Kevin to keep trying, which he does day after day. Every time he’d bring something different -- a different candy, or toy that boys his age would’ve liked -- but Hanjo refuses every single item without delay.
When the date of Hanjo’s discharge looms closer and closer, Kevin can’t help himself but urge him to speak by prompting the child with good news, “you must be excited, only three days left!” he grins at the child in hopes of getting a smile back, at least.
Hanjo, on the other hand, merely blinks. Then, a fat tear rolls down his cheek before he bursts into tears.
“Hanjo,” Kevin’s demeanor softens then, gently tugging the said child in his arms and scooping him close against his chest. The child keeps on crying, his face now red and tears cascading down his cheeks, staining Kevin’s white coat. His parents, having heard the commotion from outside, quickly slip in with mirroring expressions of worry and take the child from Kevin’s arms, who is left confused and slightly concerned at the child’s suddenly sad countenance. He cannot, for the life of him, understand how Hanjo’s mind works. Kids like him shouldn’t be crying like their world is tearing apart, shouldn’t be subdued and silent and just afraid of everything.
No, there’s something that’s bothering Hanjo. And Kevin finds his answer a few hours later.
“Hanjo spent most of his life in Florida, where he was born,” Mrs. Yeon says to him. After Hanjo had fallen asleep, she had ushered to buy Kevin a coffee at the cafeteria. She now sits opposite him, coffee cup clasped between frail fingers with skin wrinkled and saggy from years of work, eyes rimmed with blue aprons and mouth tugged down in a tense, awkward line, smeared with a pale chalky lipstick.
“We moved here just a few months ago. He hasn’t told me anything, but his teacher tells me that he hasn’t been very...interactive with the other kids,” she purses her lips as if in discontentment, “he barely talks, not because he doesn't understand. We talk to him in Korean all the time at home. Somehow though, he barely says a word here. It’s like he doesn’t want to make even the slightest bit of effort.”
“Have you tried talking to him about it?” Kevin asks with furrowed eyebrows.
She shakes her head, “no, well. We’ve tried asking him about school and stuff, maybe mentioned his teacher’s comments once or twice but that was it. We don’t want to push him either.”
He can’t help but feel a pang of sympathy for the said young boy, knowing all too well how strange it is to move oneself to another country altogether, a country where the language is different, the people are different, and how it feels like your entire life has just turned upside down because of that mere fact.
“Oh that’s just like little Kevin when he just moved here,” Hyunjae can’t help but snigger, prompting Mae to whack him across the back of his head.
“Ouch!” Hyunjae throws her a scowl, “why are you even a doctor? You should just become part of the mafia. Seriously! That hurt--”
She proceeds to shove a piece of lettuce in his mouth to muffle his protests. Juyeon and Kevin exchange knowing glances, before shrugging.
“You should talk to him,” Mae suggests, and though she’s trying very hard to act normal, Kevin can feel the unease rolling off her, how she’s not looking at him and permanently fixating her gaze on her platter of food. He makes a mental note to ask Juyeon about it later.
For now, he replies, “yeah I should. It’s just a saddening thought. Children shouldn’t have so much trouble earlier on in their lives.”
“Hey touff, we all haff prwabems,” Hyunjae attempts to say with his mouth still full. He swallows before gulping down some water. Slamming his cup down, he jabs a finger in Mae’s direction, “you and I have a problem.”
“The only problem that I’ll have with you is killing you by asphyxiation, and before you ask, there is food involved,” Mae cooes.
Hyunjae shivers, “psychopath.”
“Nu-uh, Sociopath? Probably. But psychopath?” she scrunches her face up as though contemplating the thought, “nah, I’m too kind.”
“You flatter yourself too much,” Juyeon rolls his eyes.
“Can we focus on the problem at hand?” Kevin waves his chopsticks around dramatically, ignoring Hyunjae stealing his piece of chicken and replacing it with some ginger instead.
“Kevin, we all know that you’re the wondrous child talker here,” Hyunjae says, “we’re all counting on you to babysit our kids one day.”
“Excuse me? Is there kindergarten written on my forehead?”
“You mean, there isn’t kindergarten written on your forehead?” Hyunjae gasps dramatically, “here, let me--”
“Don’t you dare, Lee Jaehyun.”
Kevin waits until Hanjo’s parents leave with promises that they’ll be here to watch over him tomorrow morning, before slithering inside the children’s ward. Hanjo spots him, but doesn’t say anything as the said doctor sidles up to his bed and takes a seat on the abandoned chair next to him.
“I’ve got a surprise for you,” Kevin murmurs. The child watches as he pulls out a box of pocky sticks. His mother had stated that Pocky is the only asian snack he eats. Surely enough, Hanjo doesn’t hesitate to grab it with his little chubby fingers and Kevin gazes down at him with a fond sympathy gripping his chest.
But then, Hanjo glances up at him uncertainly. Kevin puts a finger to his mouth, “can you keep a secret?”
Hanjo pauses, contemplates him for a moment. Then, he nods.
“Cool, because I can’t actually sneak in any outside snacks,” Kevin whispers with a soft chuckle at the alarm washing over Hanjo’s face, “it’s okay, don’t worry. This is between you and me, alright?”
It takes a few seconds for the child to decide that Kevin’s intentions aren’t all that bad, before he slowly pries open the packet and digs into the snack with barely restrained excitement. Kevin just watches him with fondness, glad that for once it seems like he’s done something for Hanjo, when the child suddenly sticks out the packet, urging him to take some.
“Oh,” Kevin blinks in surprise, before drawing a pocky stick, “thanks, Hanjo. That’s so nice of you.”
Hanjo just nods, before returning his attention to the said chocolate covered sticks. As his mother had stated, it is indeed his favourite snack.
“Do you often eat pocky, Hanjo?” Kevin asks.
The child shrugs, urging Kevin to ask, “do any of your friends eat pocky?”
At this, Hanjo’s mouth pauses as if in contemplation and Kevin knows that he has hit a nerve. Not just any, but a sensitive one. He hurries to continue talking for fear that he might lose momentum, “you know, I never really had any friends when I first moved here. I used to eat pocky because it reminded me of the snacks my mom used to buy for me, back when we were still in Canada.”
He can practically see the cogs turning inside Hanjo’s brain as he mulls over the newly acquired information.
“I was shy back then. I didn’t know how to approach people. They all spoke Korean, I understood them. But I was so scared that they couldn’t understand me for some reason. After all, I never spoke Korean back when I was in Canada, just with my parents.”
Kevin let the information sink in for the child who was now gazing up at him with newfound interest alight in his big brown eyes and it takes everything inside the said doctor not to squeal at how adorable he looks. Instead, he pauses and waits, waits with the hope that Hanjo will react to this, however he wants.
“How?”
Kevin blinks. Hanjo’s mouth is open, curiosity filling his features as he continues hesitantly, “how...did you...make friends?”
While Kevin wants nothing more than to punch the air in success, he decides that this is not the right moment to be celebrating that fact. Instead, he clears his throat and allows his arm to rest on the side of the child’s bed.
“Actually, the pocky sticks helped me. The kids at my school always brought the same type of pocky sticks and then one day, when one of the girls in my class didn’t have any snacks, I offered her one,” Kevin smiles at the memory flashing before his eyes, “I thought she’d laugh at me when she started talking to me because of my accent. I wasn’t completely fluent. Surprisingly though, she was very interested to know what I had to say, despite the fact that I was so scared she’d just turn away from me.”
“What was her name?” Hanjo asks.
“Her name?” Kevin tilts his head, “actually, she works here too. Her name’s Mae, she’s a doctor from the Cancer department.”
Hanjo pauses for a few seconds, before he looks down at the box of pocky in his hand, “I don’t like talking in Korean,” his voice is small, barely a whisper, “I don’t like it here. Everything is different. Everyone is different.”
“You know, Korean is one of the hardest languages to learn. And you know English. Do you know how amazing that is?” Kevin smiles down, one of his hands going to pat his head, “I know how it feels. It doesn’t feel like home, because home is far far away. But it will get better, Hanjo. It’s okay that you’re not fluent in Korean. You’ll get there, eventually. Look at doctor Kevin, see?” he motions towards his own chest, “I was in the exact same position as you were, once. But it really gets better, trust me.”
Hanjo is frowning at the snack in his hands now, as though there are different thoughts flying about in his brain, thoughts too complicated for him to explain. But he surprises Kevin when he suddenly looks up and holds out his pinky.
“Promise?” Hanjo asks, “promise it gets better?”
“I promise,” Kevin hooks his finger with the child’s, “and you know what? You made your first friend right here,” and he pats his own chest with an amused smile. Hanjo’s lips tilt up in a mirroring expression, albeit hesitant, and Kevin’s heart melted right then and there in a puddle of Hanjo goo.
-----------
Knock knock.
Kevin blinks away the drowsiness as he raises his head from his desk where he’d been napping just a few seconds ago. Rubbing the sleep away from his eyes, he spots Hyunjae and lets out a groan at the mischievous smirk on the latter’s lips.
Whenever Hyunjae’s in a mood, he’ll have some kind of face that warns people about it.
“Get lost, Hyunjae. Not in the mood,” Kevin groans while his friend saunters in as though he hasn’t been straight out rejected. Kevin buries his face back into his arms and Hyunjae quickly lays his head just beside him.
“What?” Kevin asks with his eyes still closed.
Hyunjae merely giggles, before blowing softly on his face.
Kevin whips his head around, “you’re so annoying. Get lost.”
“But Kebiiin,” the taller man whines and nestles his face even closer so that Kevin’s soft hair tickles the bridge of his nose, “I have important news!”
“What news?” comes Kevin’s mumble.
“I’m getting married.”
“To who?”
“To you.”
“No you’re not.”
“Okay fine, to Juyeon.”
“No you’re not.”
“Okay fine, to Mae then.”
“Do you know,” Kevin asks slowly, “why is she acting so weird?”
“Weird?” Hyunjae snuggles even closer, breathes in Kevin’s soft vanilla scent, “like usual Mae kind of weird or weirder than weird?”
“No, she hasn’t been talking to herself. But she has been avoiding me.” “Oh.”
“Oh?” Kevin whips around to look at him in alarm.
Hyunjae draws back to stand, leaning against the opposite doctor’s empty chair as Kevin straightens to look at him with growing concern, “what do you mean by ‘oh’?”
“She did ask me something weird the other day.”
“About?”
“About who you were crushing on.”
“WHAT?” Kevin’s eyes grow wide, “what did you tell her?!”
“That I had no clue.”
“Oh thank god,” Kevin visibly slouches in relief. Then, his eyes grow wide, “wait--Does she know then?! That I--” All it takes is for Hyunjae’s face to take on a suspicious air for Kevin to realize that he is not out of dangerous waters yet.  He scrambles up and holds onto Hyunjae’s sleeve, “what?” Kevin demands like it’s a life or death situation. Which it is to him, “why do have that look on your face?”
“Look Kev, mate, I definitely did not do anything.”
“But?”
“I never said there was a but.”
“You implied it!”
“Okay fine,” Hyunjae huffs, “but, someone seems to have leaked this information to her, like it or not--”
“What?!”
“--and we all suspect that it’s the Neurosurgery resident, the one that comes from Toronto--”
Kevin sucks in a sharp breath, “Jacob Bae?”
“If anyone asks, this did not come out of my mouth,” Hyunjae is quick to defend while raising his arms in the air in mock surrender, but Kevin is too preoccupied at the thought that his secret is now out in the open for everyone to dissect and digest. How in the world does Jacob know about this? He barely even talks to him!
Unless...unless it’s that obvious?
His head snaps up so suddenly, eyes dark and so vividly intense on Hyunjae’s that the latter can’t help but yelp in return, “Hyunjae,” Kevin says slowly, “you’re sure...you’re sure you didn’t say anything?”
“Are you implying that I lied to you?!” Hyunjae gasps mockingly, “Kevin, I’m--”
“Shut up and be serious for one second.”
“Of course I didn’t! Who do you take me for?!”
“Shit,” is the only thing that Kevin has to say, “Shit. Shit.”

3rd person pov:
There is nobody on the rooftop of this school, it was the most isolated part of this school.
Minjoo Cha walked to the edge of the rooftop and closed her eyes. Sweaty clothes were sticking to her back while she was climbing the stairs. The hem sticks to her back as she grunts in frustration. The hot sunlight shines your eyes as always making your eyes sting. The woman wore an angelic face as if it contained all the loveliness of this world. Whenever she was shy, her cheeks will be painted in a red hue, and her long and fluttering eyelashes all went well along with her facial features. Of course, that face didn't look lovely to Minjoo.
Cha Minjoo pov:
Bang!
I heard the door being slammed open behind my back. I went up the stairs in a hurry as I heard the sound of breath also catch up."Hey, Minjoo Cha!" I looked back at the calling voice. I saw a face that was hated so that my teeth were gritting. "Min-Ju, wait!" The woman who was following me found climbing up the staircase hard as she breathed rather hardly. I began to tremble with a pale face. The lips that call my name are red and thick. "Are you really trying to jump off the school building(aka suicide)? Or did you just send a letter to surprise me?" The woman took the letter out of her arms and held it.
3rd person pov:
It was a letter left like a will. The face of the woman who was evil while she held the letter slightly with her index finger and thumb as if holding a dirty object.
"Do you think I'm scared of you doing this?" "Lee Soo-Yeon."The democratic name was low. Soo-Yeon shook her shoulder. She turned away from all her evil deeds and fell into self-pity. The anger crouched deep in the stomach as it wriggled its way in dynamically.
The resentful heart which bore resentment soon becomes anger.
Anyway, there was no one besides democracy(a law I guess?). Minjoo had no parents to protect and friends to protect her."Do I need to live by grinding my teeth? 'Can we happily dream of the future as long as we pass this period safely?'
Minjoo shook her head while asking herself a question. "You know, I thought that way too."
But now Minjoo did not have the confidence to continue live.
Cha Minjoo Pov:
There was no regret to follow this ditch-like life. If life is a novel, I wanted to complete this book and leave for the next story. If God existed, I hoped to do live another life once more. "If I was born again, I want to be born in the same world like you, and ask that you live and eat in the same place as me." Every time she connected, Soo-Yeon trembled less. Minjoo smiles and hopes so much that she could take her revenge in her next life. I whispered an oath I didn't have. "So I can take revenge on you." The wall touching my back was very low hence it was an easy height to jump down. Suyeon face turned pale as if she noticed it "wait!Wait!"
"Soo-Yeon, listen carefully. Now, remember this moment. Never forget it. I shall wait for the day where you will definitely pay for everything you did to me."
"Even if you live, I hope you die miserably."
With the last curse, Minjoo took off her last ounce of control of her body and collapsed quickly so as not to make any mistake. You have to smash your head first you will definitely die.
What was unexpected was Lee Soo-Yeon's behavior.
" No! "I thought she would laugh as usual, but she ran away with her teeth clenched and grabbed my hand. I wonder if she is afraid of dying herself."Let go of my hand!"She completely leaned against the wall as I was trying to shake her hand off with all the strength I had. Unfortunately, Lee Soo-Yeon doesn't have the strength to stop her but she still held in her arms causing them to fall off the building together. While falling together, Lee Soo-Yeon's scream did not disappear from her ear. After that all was blank. Dahlia's body started suffering from intense heat and air pressure. Just before she opened his eyes in, what she wondered was what Cha Min-kyu had suffered.
****************************
Evil woman.
It is a word that refers to a woman with a bad temper.
And Dahlia Margaret, the first daughter of the Count Margaret family, was a wicked woman who was said to be the innermost woman in the empire.
Beautiful appearance, cold atmosphere, vicious personality.
Everyone in the empire was afraid of her.
That was the fame of Dahlia Margaret that Cha Min-Joo knew.
"Madam, can I help?"
The maid who came in drove in politely drew her head.
" Okay ."
Dahlia responded nicely and kept her expression as cool as possible.
If I'm staying quiet as if I'm dead, or if I have a careless attitude,
It was.
When I lived as a second democracy in Korea, I always lived like that.
'If the whole earth is rumored to be a vicious and wicked woman, how much evil do you have to commit?'
But now it was a world in a novel.
Besides, the world is in a novel she had read before she died!
'Should I say that I'm glad I've read the contents of the book?'
Dahlia touched her fingernails hiding her impatience.
When I first opened my eyes in this world,
I thought I couldn't die badly and had a seizure.
There were many people wearing strange clothes around, so I was surprised to make more sauce.
"Dahlia!Dahlia, my daughter! Are you okay?"
'Who, who....... Who are you? Your father, Dahlia!"
But when a man named father came and we had some conversations, I could quickly find out where who this was about.
Floret. Was born to be loved> '.
As you can feel from the title, the main of the novel.
Dalia turned to the sound of someone knocking on the door.
The maid who finished the dressing also stepped back one step.
It was an old butler who appeared from the open door.
"Lady, the Count is waiting for you, and I will guide you to the parlor when you are ready.
"All right so stay out."
Dahlia deliberately threw a chilly answer.
Read as much as she can build
There was also a lovely face.
" Yeah?
"
However, the butler looked surprised.
Dahlia kicked her tongue because she wanted everything upset.
' What?
Should I have thrown that candlestick?
You must have done something bad to know!
'
This was the biggest challenge currently given to Dahlia.
Dahlia Margaret was the best beauty and evil woman in the empire, but Cha Min-jung was not a bad woman.
She was just a high school student who devoted herself to her studies in a normal and modest manner. I couldn't regret that I didn't see one of the common weekend dramas because I was focusing on my studies.
If I had watched the last drama, I would have been able to see how badly to do it in this situation.
All that was bad behavior for her, at best, was to raise her eyes or scream.
"My, can't you hear me? Get out!"
Dahlia, whose face was half-blushed, squeezed her voice hard.
"Oh, okay, sorry, baby Seed."
The butler hurriedly closed the door and went out.
Even after being left alone in the hallway, confusion continued.
'It is true that the rumor that the lady has become weird!
Even when he was five years old, he couldn't stand it without throwing things.
'
The butler groped his forehead with a depressed face.
There was still a scar from Dahlia torn by a candlestick threw when she was five years old for knocking on the door while taking a nap.
It was unbelievable that a young lady who had a high snot on her back with the prestige of the Count's family suddenly became so gentle.
Besides, on a day when an unwanted sister came in, like today, you would have been expected to run wild more.........
.
The butler trembled lightly, imagining what was going to happen soon.
Dahlia, after finishing the dressing, finally calmed her mind and went out into the hall.
The butler standing quietly in the corridor found her and came straight to her.
'I was a little annoyed earlier, but...
...
.
'
Dahlia hesitantly looked at the butler's face.
The feeling of guilt increased when I saw his gray hair and a forehead full of wrinkles as if proving his old age.
'am I being a little different from the original?
These aren't big trunks.
'
In the end, Dali, who could not overcome the guilt, whispered little to the butler.
" there ...
...
.
"
Couldn't finishing the sentence as I couldn't remember what the butler's name was.
"Yes, lady, do you have anything to order?"
The old butler quickly noticed and looked deeply.
It was an attitude that he was used to instructing like this.
"Before I... shouted ....... "
What should I apologize for?
How can I properly relieve the guilt of the villain without having a big crack on her reputation?
" ... sorry . "
" Yes ?
"
Dahlia, whispering with a new red face, quickly escaped.
The left butler froze with a face that seemed to pop out of her eyes in shock and looked only at her empty spot.
Dahlia Margaret is apologizing!
While working for the Count, he
never received an apology from the people of the Countess family.
But the first apology, no other way, I hear from Miss Dali.
'Madam, I...
...
I will never forget this day!
'
He trembled with excitement by himself, and ran after Dahlia, who had run away late.
That was why I remembered that I had to guide her to the parlor.
Dahlia recklessly ran the hallway.
The moment I apologized, I saw the frozen man's face and couldn't stay there.
In the novel, I just said that the evil deed was severe, but I didn't know it well, but I still couldn't get a sense of how much it was.
"Oh, huh.
"
Dahlia took a quick breath and entered any room.
The scent of old wood and books.
It Took her nerves to enter.
She put her hands on her rising and falling chest and raised her head.
"Is this... the library?" "
The densely packed library greeted Dahlia.
There was a chair in the distance by the window.
She tumbled back and sat down on the chair.
"Ha...."
A month has passed since I have been in this body.
It was a way to get used to it, but the attitude of the servants who were surprised no matter what they did was a surprise.
"You have to do bad things to know, I know."
Dahlia briefly recalled her previous life.
I remember when I was used to being bad, but I wasn't used to doing it.
'Would I be okay if I act like Lee Soo-yeon?
'
When I think of a woman from a previous life who continued a damn bad relationship, I feel somberly lost .
It was the moment when I became dissatisfied with the body I entered again.
'Hope...
...
Unlucky enough to enter Dahlia body out of many and many characters.
The evil woman who dies terribly.
'
I would have lived a new life at all if it had been just the beginning with no role.
The world did not change no matter how much resentment was expressed.
Even when I opened my eyes to pray, there was still a woman with silver hair and violet eyes standing in the mirror.
Fortunately, I was a reader who had read this novel until the end of the story.
"If you keep talking in moderation and fall out, I can save your life, right?
"
Dahlia had no intention of appearing on stage.
Because, the moment she becomes a character, she knows well that the stage will lead her to death.
Unlike Floret, Dahlia wasn't the main character, but was only the enemy of the main character.
"Dahlia!"
At that time, a thick voice hit my ear
All.
Dahlias get upset
Raised.
Someone pops open the door and thumps
And moved.
Her father, Videl Margaret Bag

My 2 cents worth on Kdramas
So, earlier this year (2018) my 12-year-old granddaughter turned me on to Kdramas.
Started out with 'Boys over Flowers' in January and we're still arguing about which one of the guys Jan-Di should have ended up with....Gu Jun-Pyo or Yoon Ji-Hoo. Since I'm a sucker for the whole Soul Mate thing (been married to my own soul mate for over 30 years) and Ji-Hoo became my favorite right from the start, I actually wasn't too happy with the way things turned out in the end.
Tumblr media
But that's all beside the point and the only thing that matters is that it only took this one series to get me completely and absolutely "hooked" on Kdramas.
Since Kim Hyun Joong became my first favorite as Ji-Hoo, I started looking up other parts he starred in and came across 'Inspiring Generation'. Wow! What a difference! The character of Shin Jung-Tae is just about as opposite of Ji-Hoo as it can possibly get. But I guess that's what makes a truly great actor, and Kim Hyun Joong was simply amazing playing the part....even though it bothered me to see that handsome face getting beat up way too much.
Tumblr media
But then it was also 'Inspiring Generation' where I found what would become my next favorite...Song Jae Rim, in the character of Mo Il-Hwa.
Tumblr media
I can't quite pinpoint what it was that endeared me to that part, but of course I had to once again look for other Kdramas, featuring Song Jae Rim. And that's when I came across 'Moon embracing the Sun' with Song Jae Rim as the King's swordsman, Woon.
Tumblr media
Absolutely loved Jae Rim in that part and still do, even after having watched the entire series about a dozen times by now. I also liked Song Jae Rim in 'Goodbye Mr. Black', even though his wasn't a main character role, but didn't care much for the part of a hitman/killer Mr. Kim he played in 'Two Weeks' since I really don't like my favs playing "bad guys". Of course, watching 'Two Weeks' made me find another new favorite...Lee Joon Gi
Okay, so I just said I don't like my favs playing "bad guys", but the main character, Jang Tae-San, isn't really a bad "bad guy" and if that story doesn't tear up your heart, then you better check if you still have one.
Tumblr media
I actually had to do something I usually NEVER do...about half-way through the series I had to watch the final episode to see how it turns out, just so my old nerves could take watching the rest of the story. Yeah, I know...terrible, isn't it? Don't worry, I got more than an earful about it from my granddaughter, and I promise to never do it again! ;)
But while I thought that it could not possibly get any better than Lee Joon Gi's performance in 'Two Weeks', I quickly found out that I was wrong when I watched 'Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo' next. OH, MY...!!! Not only is Joon Gi with long hair pure eye-candy (to me at least), but he absolutely nailed the part of Prince Wang So.
Tumblr media
Ladies, how many of you were ready to strangle Wang So's mother with your bare hands. I definitely was! And what's the big deal about that scar? I guess it's because Princes had to be "perfect", but come on...  Scars are just proof that you were stronger than whatever or whoever it was that tried to kill you. And apparently back then the phrase "chicks dig scars" was unheard of. And also apparently I'm not the only one who wasn't happy at all with the way the story ended, considering there are numerous fan videos on YouTube with different, happier endings. I got more than just a little upset with Hae Soo for leaving Wang So. How could she not see that he was trying his best to NOT become some blood-thirsty tyrant??
Anyway, after only about 3 days of some serious editing work, the final episode in my own DVD collection of 'Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo' has a much happier ending now...many thanks to Daria Zyuzina who created the wonderful fan video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oj0r9zE5Le8) where Wang So finds Hae Soo in the future. And like so many other fans, I'm also still hoping for a Season 2 with this kind of scenario.
On another note to 'Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo'... aside from the despicable character of Queen Yoo (Prince Wang So's mother, who treats him like s**t), my other least-favorite character is Prince Wang Yo (Wang So's biological brother, and also a son of Queen Yoo). However, while I hated the character, actor Hong Jong Hyun did an excellent job portraying the mean, spiteful, conniving 3rd Prince. But if you're like me, you would much more enjoy seeing Hong Jong Hyun in the role of Wang Rin in 'The King in Love'
Tumblr media
or, even better, as Seo Chan Hwi, the vice-commander of the Royal Guard in 'Jeon Woo Chi'
Tumblr media
(that is, if you can get into things like wizards and magic and tolerate some occasionally slightly over-done special effects of people flying through the air and such...BUT at least in 'Jeon Woo Chi' ONLY the wizards have that ability, unlike in some of the Chinese dramas where seemingly anybody can have such super-human abilities...if you ever watched 'General and I', you might understand what I'm talking about... I couldn't make it past a trailer that had a fight scene between Chu Beijie and He Xia, but that's just me, I guess).
As far as wizards and magic are concerned, however, I did very much enjoy the ones in 'Mirror of the Witch' aka 'Secret Healer' and my favorite character there ended up being the Taoist Yo Gwang, played by Lee Yi Kyung.
Tumblr media
Don't ask me why, I just found him adorable (maybe because he was so awkward, dealing with the girl  Soon Deuk who clearly has a crush on him). SPOILER ALERT -- 'Mirror of the Witch' has a rather bitter-sweet ending!
I want to get back to Lee Joon Gi for a moment since I just finished the 'Lawless Lawyer' series....which is an excellent nail-biter and I had to seriously restrain myself NOT TO watch the final episode first again. If you've seen it, tell me is it just me or did you think too that Joon Gi looked too skinny in that series? Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying at all that he looked "bad" in any way and his performance was awesome as usual...I just felt that he looked like he'd lost a whole bunch of weight and "celebrity life" was taking its toll on him. Kind of worries me, because I would definitely like to see him in many more future performances.
I still have some Lee Joon Gi binge-watching left over for now, since the only other movies and series I made it through so far were 'Iljimae', 'Arang and the Magistrate', 'Gunman in Joseon' and of course 'The King and the Clown' (which was way too sad for my taste). But most likely 'Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo' will always be my absolute favorite and I'll keep hoping for a 2nd season...even though that will probably just remain wishful thinking for myself and many others, but we can always hope, right?
Some of my other favs I’d like to mention would be Kwak Dong Yeon as swordsman Kim Byung-Yeon in 'Moonlight drawn by Clouds' aka 'Love in the Moonlight'
Tumblr media
and he also played an excellent part as young Shin Jung-Tae in 'Inspiring Generation'.
Then there is Seo In Guk for his outstanding performances as Prince Gwang-Hae in 'The King's Face'
Tumblr media
and also as Lee Hyun / David Lee in 'I Remember You' aka 'Hello Monster'.
Tumblr media
An excellent yet unfortunately somewhat overlooked performance of Kim Jae Young as Moo-Yeon in ‘100 Days my Prince’
Tumblr media
And last (for now) but certainly not least is Jung Il Woo whose sad role as Prince Yang-Myung in 'Moon embracing the Sun' cost me plenty of tissues,
Tumblr media
but required even more of them in 'The Return of Iljimae' (even though it has a happier ending for Jung Il Woo’s character)
Tumblr media
I'll probably get "yelled at" for saying this, but I honestly have a hard time deciding whom I liked better...Lee Joon Gi as Iljimae in 'Iljimae: The Phantom Thief', or Jung Il Woo as Iljimae in 'The Return of Iljimae'. (Sorry, Joon Gi, but be assured that you'll still always be my #1 fav).
So, thanks to my granddaughter, back to some more binge-watching...hey, I got to blame someone else for things not getting done around the house, right? ;)

'Red Single Heart' Jang Hyuk and Lee Joon in a tense confrontation
Tumblr media
'Red Single Heart' Lee Joon and Jang Hyuk had a nerve battle.
In the KBS 2TV drama 'Red Single Heart', which was broadcast on the 9th, a nervous battle between Lee Tae (Lee Jun) and Park Gye-won (Jang Hyuk) was drawn.
On this day, Yoojung confessed to Lee Tae, "I want to protect you from the hardships inside and outside that the scholar cannot. I love the scholar." To this, Lee Tae said, "I have a woman I need to marry." "I have planned and prepared something for a very long time. She needs that woman in order to carry out the work she has planned."
Upon hearing this, Yoojung asked, "Are you in love with that woman?" Lee Tae simply replied, "She needs her. She doesn't care about other people to me."
Yoojung said, "Then why? You come to see me, and why do you always worry about me? Why do you want me to be happy? There must be some reason." But Lee Tae said, "Are you not angry when you hear that? Don't follow me. Don't get hurt anymore and live like that" and left.
Jo Yeon-hee (Choi Ri) appealed to Jo Won-pyo (Heo Seong-tae), saying, "Please put my virgin terminal in. I want to go to the highest position as a woman.
In response, Jo Won-pyo said, "Do you know how Queen Inhyeon, your mother's queen, died?" "It is known that Queen Inhyeon killed Queen Inhyeon when he was caught trying to assassinate King Seon and crowned the crown prince, but he did not know who the culprit was."
He continued, "When the previous king tried to capture the public servants because of that, the left sage made a scapegoat in a hurry. So, the person who benefited the most is the head." He said, "Yeonhui, do you know. The palace is such a place. Even the royal family survives by using the death of their mother. .Jungjeon was appointed as the left-handed niece," he dissuaded her daughter.
Hearing this, Jo Yeon-hee said, "She'll become a nun if she can't be a middle-aged woman. No, she'd rather hang her by the neck," she said.

Produce X 101 Position Evaluation Thoughts (Post ep 6/7) VOCAL/RAP POSITION
I just had a lot of thoughts after watching episodes 6 and 7 so just gonna rant here.
Firstly i just want to put it out there this the first time i followed a produce x 101 series for so long mainly because my main picks since the start are still there! (I’m looking at park sun ho and nam do hyun)
PLEASE DON’T GET ANGRY BECAUSE THESE ARE PURELY MY OWN OPINIONS WARNING LONG LONG POST AHEAD
So im just gonna go thru each performance and share my thoughts on each trainee of course im naturally going to be sort of biased so ill just follow my feelings.
VOCAL POSITION
youtube
4th. TO MY YOUTH stage,
I would say this was my least anticipated stage and i feel this is generally not a stage I would rewatch very often in the future. I’m not saying its bad in fact I love how emotional they are since I know very well how hard these lyrics hit myself being a avid bol4 fan. I just didn’t really like the arrangement of the song, its inevitable but comparing it to the original this arrangement seemed to dull out their voices abit as in it felt too loud. I think it was the adlibs that really sounded too loud when i was listening, it was emotional yes, but did it highlight their emotion as well as it could? I don’t think so. But other than that i do think this was a well done stage and finally i can start to see why everyone loves kim min kyu.
JIN WOO - I love that he chose this song because this song IS for all the teens out there trying to find their way in life and the lyrics just match him so well too and yeah it was just a good song choice i think.
SE JIN - i just like the tone of his voice its really soft and fluffy and it worked to his advantage in this song
WOO SEOK - He’s up in the ranks for a reason and he maintains that through this performance
BYUNG CHAN - I felt like he got outshined by woo seok, maybe a poor song choice on his part, felt like his voice would suit day by day more but it is what it is and i think he did well just out shined
MIN KYU - I see improvement from my previous impressions of him and i can see him trying to sing louder as what the vocal trainers told him, only time will tell if he improves more.
youtube
3RD DAY BY DAY STAGE
This stage was nice. It was good. But it just did not really pop or leave a super lasting impression. I liked the arrangement into a rainy day style song. I liked the concept that they had. I liked their powerful vocals and harmonies. But it just didn’t stand out for some reason like I really can’t explain it. Its like the I am stage in produce 48 it was good but it just didnt pop.
CHOI SU HWAN - I’ll first declare i am biased towards him so don’t take me seriously but like i found it quite unbelievable that he got 5th place in the live voting because he was hitting those notes darn powerfully and his harmonising with yu bin was really nice and good so yes i like him and i hope he makes it through
SONG YU BIN - Same as woo seok he continues to show why he’s in the top ranks and that there’s a reason why he already debuted really nothing suprising
NAM DONG HYUN - I like his work ethic, he accepts criticism and works hard to get what he wants the arrangement that he did was pretty and his voice matched well with the song but didn’t really have much highlights during the performance apart from the high note with yubin
MOON JUN HO - I have no idea he existed until now but i loved his facial expressions and his voice aint bad but because of the lack of screentime he gets I really can’t talk much about him (im sorry)
KWON TAE EUN - Same as jun ho definitely does not get enough screen time considering the effort they probably poured into the stage
youtube
2ND TWIT STAGE
These 5 guys killed it, be it from the arrangement to their voices to their stage presence and performance everything conveyed their teamwork. Also i loved the outfits and the mic stands yes.
YOON JUNG HWAN - This guy’s stage presence is no joke where has he been all along? He knows what he’s doing that’s for sure and he is such a good pick as the center for this song, just watch the performance the way he moves its killer.
LEE HYEOB - WHERE HAS THIS GUY BEEN ALL THIS TIME TOO? When Bae Yoon Jung went “who is he?” i was like exactly I know right? This was a good song choice on his part and now i want him to go through as well maybe i just have a soft spot for independent trainees.
LEE EUN SANG - Clearly he ranked first based on popularity for this live stage but its not to say that he didn’t serve those killer looks, I could see him being a pretty good vocal but for this stage he stood out with the looks
KANG SEOK HWA - Another independent trainee that i have a soft spot for too, didn’t have many lines but was stable and did his job and also meshed well with the rest
LEE MI DAM - Damn if it weren’t for the comments I wouldn’t even be sure/ remember who arranged the song Mnet certainly could have given him some spotlight because i absolutely loved this arrangement into this sort of rock pop song
youtube
1ST ME AFTER YOU STAGE
Now this is a stage i’ve been replaying since it aired. This is up there in all the produce performances i’ve watched. These guys are made for ballads with their voices. Also i just love me a ballad and i do feel like this is the avengers team for the vocal position.
KIM YO HAN - He knows how to sing with emotion and when he does it feels like his heart is out on his sleeve, he may not have the biggest range (vocal wise) but he sure can deliver the feels
CHA JUN HO - I love the friendship between him and yo han but he definitely has to thank yo han for helping him but once that shell broke his vocals definitely shine through
KIM HYUN BIN - After the amazing performance with No More Dream i thought he was going to choose a rap position but no he chose a vocal position and he stuns. Similar to yo han he doesn’t exactly have the largest range but he does know how to sing.
HAN SEUNG WOO - He is good. He deserved the first and the center position, i feel like i’ve been saying this alot but he picked the right song he knows how his voice works and i respect him for that. But i wish someone would change his hairstyle.
WEI ZI YUE - He is trying, I can really tell he’s trying his voice is very unique and I’m not quite sure if he knows how to use it yet because the first time I watched the performance it felt a bit jarring because the rest of his team mates have those sort of clear voices but i could see he was trying to enunciate properly so thumbs up for trying.
RAP POSITION
youtube
2ND BARCODE STAGE
Before i watched the episode, I had hopes for a good stage because i love this song but after watching it i just wanted them not to cry. I think it was more upsetting because they made mistakes one by one and you could see them visibly getting less and less confident even though they were doing well. I feel sad because I could see the stage that this could have been with their different rap tones blending together and a very emotional lyrics.
WON HYUK - He was sort of evil edited but like he made up for it in his stage, he kept his calm and he kept his composure and i felt like because of that the team managed to finish the song. He was the only one that didn’t make a mistake and in fact i felt like he rapped harder because he wanted to make up for his team mates mistakes and he was good as a rapper which is surprising after his energetic performance.
BAEK JIN - He was really good and stable at the start which is why it was worse to see him fall, i think his nerves and his team’s mistakes really got to him and it broke him. His facial expressions were really good too.
YURI - His rap voice is so low and so different from his team mates that it made him stood out but imo i think from the start he already didn’t feel particularly confident, and it showed on his face and ultimately caused him to get flustered and make mistakes as well
LEE WOO JIN - I’m not sure about this but it felt like he was a vocalist? As in he felt new to rapping and the whole team vibe certainly didn’t help the situation if that was so. Tbh i think he needs more practice but he was really the most nervous even from the start but i wish him all the best
1ST SAY IT YES OR NO STAGE
https://youtu.be/uM07p0-GA-M
MY FAVORITE STAGE OUT OF ALL THE STAGES!! This was just so fun. They were literally having fun on the stage and this was a stage where I absoulutely loved the killing parts and everyone had one! also all their lyrics are both fun, sad and powerful at the same time, i just love this team and want all of them to go through!
NAM DO HYUN - My pick since the start and I continue to love what he brings to the table, he actually took Cheetah’s advice seriously and he killed the stage especially the part where he says I’ll be your Oppa ji I was like wow that was good and on beat and on point
JO SEUNG YEON - He trained Jaehun and Seong yeon pretty darn well and he took care of his own part too and even though his own part was short it was IMPACTFUL like that line “naega” is too damn good, he’s both main vocal and main rapper and not a joke
JUNG JAE HUN - He’s trying hard too, I can see it but i loved how he just basically acted out his part about being nervous and the lyrics in his part are so honest that they’re kind of sad especially the part where he says “the only thing i’ve shown is my temple heart”
KIM SEONG YEON - Not sure if he wrote his rap or Seung Yeon did but it was nice and simple and effective and he had his own killing part at the “ pick pick pick” line. Kinda loved him as a rapper wanna see more of him as both vocalist and rapper.

Variety show goes to next level by exploring Mars(like) environment
By Woo Jae-yeon
SEOUL, July 12 (Yonhap) -- After SBS' reality-travel show "Law of Jungle" explored the Antarctic, one of the harshest living environments on earth, in April, cable channel tvN is taking its cast members to an even more extreme, unknown territory -- Mars.
Not the real red planet, of course, where Matt Damon's character set foot in the 2015 hit movie "The Martian," inspiring many aspiring astronauts and space exploration fans.
The reality show "Galileo: Awakened Universe" sent a team of Korean celebrities -- headed by comedian Kim Byung-man, who is well-known for his survival skills as demonstrated in the SBS show -- to the Mars Desert Research Station (MDRS) in Utah.
Built in early 2000s by non-profit group Mars Society, the place, with similar terrain and appearance to that of Mars, is meant to be a forum for conducting various scientific experiments in preparation for human exploration of the planet in the future.
The show's producer, Lee Young-joon, said during a media promotional event on Thursday in Seoul that he had wanted to combine a reality show with science and that Mars grabbed his attention as it is currently one of the most interesting subjects in the global space science industry.
"I want to pique people's interest in Mars and show how the world has been preparing for Mars exploration," Lee said.
To make the show more realistic, the production team minimized intervention and replaced filming staff with some 140 cameras to naturally capture the members: Actor Ha Ji-won, boy band 2PM's Nichkhun and girl band gugudan's Kim Se-jeong. Three foreign scientists join the team to guide their research and experiments.
The members stayed for seven days at the MDRS, where they conducted various scientific research. The channel is said to have had a hard time persuading the center to permit the filming of an entertainment show there.
Comedian Kim said the experience was beyond description and that he faced so many unexpected factors while living there, which often caught him off guard.
"It was the most amazing and nerve-racking experience in my life ... I took great comfort that it wasn't real Mars and I wouldn't die even if I took off the spacesuit and helmet," he said. "I wouldn't go (to Mars) even if I had a chance."     Having dreamed as a kid of becoming an astronaut, actor Ha described the center as a very "mysterious and interesting" place. Among many impressive experiences there, she said, the most interesting was the roller coaster of emotions that came from being confined in the unique and unfamiliar surroundings.
Citing scientific data that on July 31, Mars will come the closest to Earth that it has been since 2003, the producer said, "The program airs when the planet moves closer to Earth. It is the first time a reality show with a science topic will be broadcast. We hope TV viewers get more curious about science after watching the show."     The show will premiere at 4:40 p.m. on Sunday.

With dozens of films genre being released each year, a typical one that gets overlooked by the more popular ones (action, drama, comedy, animation, etc.) is the subgenre category of religious movie. These films (sometimes called “faith-based” features) usually center around the struggles and ideas of a person (or groups) identity of a religious faith, which is, more or less, has a profound event or obstacle to overcome. While not entirely, the most commonplace religious type movies focus on the religion of Christianity, sometimes venturing back into the past in cinematic retelling classic biblical tales, including famed epic films like Ten Commandments and Ben-Hur (the original 1959 version) to some more modern endeavors from Hollywood like Risen, The Young Messiah, and Paul, Apostle of Christ. Other Christian “faith” films finds a more contemporary setting to tell its story, with some being “based on a true-life account” like the movies Unconditional, Heaven is Real, Unbroken, I Can Only Imagine, Indivisible, and Miracles from Heaven, while others might find inspiration from literary novels / fictionalized narratives like The Shack, Overcomer, War Room, and Same Kind of Different as Me. Regardless, whether finding inspiration from true life, references from the bible, or originality, these movies usually speaks on a person’s faith and the inner struggle he or she has within or one society’s views, spreading a message of belief and the understand of one’s belief. Now, after the success of 2018’s I Can Only Imagine, directors Andrew and Jon Erwin (the Erwin Brothers) and Lionsgate studios release the 2020 faith-based film / music biopic feature I Still Believe. Does the film walk a fine line between its religious aspects and cinematic entertainment or does the movie get entangled in its own faith-based preaching?
THE STORY
Its 1999 and Jeremy Camp (K.J. Apa) is a young and aspiring musician who would like nothing more than to honor his God through the power of music. Leaving his Indiana home for the warmer climate of California and a college education, Jeremy soon comes across one Melissa Henning (Britt Robertson), a fellow college student that he takes notices in the audience at a local concert. Falling for cupid’s arrow immediately, he introduces himself to her and quickly discovers that she is attracted to him too. However, Melissa holds back from forming a budding relationship as she fears it will create an awkward situation between Jeremy and their mutual friend, Jean-Luc (Nathan Parson), a fellow musician and who also has feeling for Melissa. Still, Jeremy is relentless in his pursuit of her until they eventually find themselves in a loving dating relationship. However, their youthful courtship with each other comes to a halt when life-threating news of Melissa having cancer takes center stage. The diagnosis does nothing to deter Jeremey’s love for her and the couple eventually marries shortly thereafter. Howsoever, they soon find themselves walking a fine line between a life together and suffering by her illness; with Jeremy questioning his faith in music, himself, and with God himself.
THE GOOD / THE BAD
Sorry if this sounds a bit familiar pieces from my review of I Can Only Imagine, but it definitely says what I feel about these films. While I am a devout Christian (not a crazy zealot or anything like that) for my bases of religion and my outlook beliefs in life, I’m not a huge fan of the “faith-based” feature films. That’s not to say that they’re bad or that I find them deplorable to the other more popular movie genres out there, but sometimes they can a bit preachy and corny / honky in their religious overtones and overall dramatic direction. Personally, I like the more biblical tales that Hollywood as put over, with Cecil B. Demile’s The Ten Commandments and William Wyler’s Ben-Hur; both of have proven to stand the test of time within filmmaking. Of course, Hollywood’s recent trend of put out more “remakes” movies puts an overcast on those biblical epics with 2014’s Exodus: Gods and Kings and 2016’s Ben-Hur; both of which failed to capture a sense of cinematic integrity and had a messy religious outlook in its zeal aspect. Of late, however, Hollywood as retreated more into contemporary pieces, finding narratives that are, more or less, set in a more “modern” day and age to their Christian-faithful based features. As I mentioned above, some have found success in their literary forms (being based on a book and adapted to the big screen), but most derive their inspiration from true life accounts, translating into something that’s meant to strike a chord (with moviegoers) due to its “based on a true story” aspect and nuances. Again, some are good (as I liked Unbroken and The Shack), while others kind of become a bit too preachy and let the religious overtures hamper the film, making them less-than desirable to mainstream audiences or even members of their own faiths. Thus, these religious-esque films can sometimes be problematic in their final presentation for both its viewers and in the film itself; sometimes making the movie feel like a TV channel movie rather than a theatrical feature film. This brings me around to talking about I Still Believe, a 2020 motion picture release of the Christian religious faith-based genre. As almost customary, Hollywood usually puts out two (maybe three) films of this variety movies within their yearly theatrical release lineup, with the releases usually being around spring time and / or fall respectfully. I didn’t hear much when this movie was first announced (probably got buried underneath all the popular movies news on the newsfeed). My first actual glimpse of the movie was when the film’s movie trailer was released, which looked somewhat interesting to me. Yes, it looked the movie was gonna be the typical “faith-based” vibe, but it was going to be directed by the Erwin Brothers, who directed I Can Only Imagine (a film that I did like). Plus, the trailer for I Still Believe premiered for quite some time, so I kept on seeing it a lot of time when I went to my local movie theater. You can kind of say that it was a bit “engrained in my brain”. Thus, I was a bit keen on seeing it. Fortunately, I was able to see it before the COVID-19 outbreak closed the movie theaters down (saw it during its opening night), but, due to work scheduling, I haven’t had the time to do my review for it…. until now. And what did I think of it? Well, it was pretty “meh”. While its heart is definitely in the right place and quite sincere, I Still Believe is a bit too preachy and unbalanced within its narrative execution and character developments. The religious message is clearly there, but takes too many detours and not focusing on certain aspects that weigh the feature’s presentation. As mentioned, I Still Believe is directed by the Erwin Brothers (Andrew and Jon), whose previous directorial works include such films like Moms’ Night Out, Woodlawn, and I Can Only Imagine. Given their affinity attraction religious based Christian movies, the Erwin Brothers seem like a suitable choice in bringing Jeremy Camp’s story to a cinematic representation; approaching the material with a certain type of gentleness and sincerity to the proceedings. Much like I Can Only Imagine, the Erwin Brothers shape the feature around the life of a popular Christian singer; presenting his humble beginnings and all the trials and tribulations that he must face along the way, while musical songs / performance taking importance into account of the film’s narrative story progression. That’s not to say that the movie isn’t without its heavier moments, with the Erwin, who (again) are familiar with religious overtones themes in their endeavors, frame I Still Believe compelling messages of love, loss, and redemption, which (as always) are quite fundamental to watch and experience through tragedy. This even speaks to the film’s script, which was penned by Erwin brothers playing double duty on the project, that has plenty of heartfelt dramatic moments that will certainly tug on the heartstrings of some viewers out there as well as provide to be quite an engaging tale of going through tragedy and hardship and finding a redemption arc to get out of it. This is especially made abundantly clear when dealing with a fatal illness that’s similar to what Melissa undergoes in the film, which is quite universal and reflective in everyone’s world, with the Erwin Brothers painting the painful journey that Melissa takes along with Jeremy by her side, who must learn to cope with pain of a loved one. There is a “double edge” sword to the film’s script, but I’ll mention that below. Suffice to say, the movie settles quickly into the familiar pattern of a religious faith-based feature that, while not exactly polished or original, can be quite the “comfort food” to some; projecting a wholesome message of faith, hope, and love. Personally, I didn’t know of Jeremy Camp and the story of he and Melissa Henning, so it was quite a poignant journey that was invested unfolding throughout the film’s proceedings. As a side-note, the movie is a bit a “tear jerker”, so for those who prone to crying during these dramatic heartfelt movies….get your tissues out. In terms of presentation, I Still Believe meets the industry standard of a religious faith-based motion pictures. Of course, theatrical endeavors like these don’t really have big budged production money to invest in the film’s creation. Thus, filmmakers have to spend their money wisely in bringing their cinematic tales to life on the silver screen. To that effect, the Erwin Brothers smartly utilized this knowledge in the movie’s creation; budgeting the various aspects of the background and genetic theatrical make-up that feel appropriate and genuine in the film’s narrative. So, all the various “behind the scenes” team / areas that I usually mention (i.e. production designs, set decorations, costumes, and cinematography, etc.) are all relatively good as I really don’t have much to complain (whether good or bad) about them. Again, they meet the industry standard for a faith-based movie. Additionally, the musical song parts are pretty good as well. As mentioned, I really didn’t know anything about Jeremy Camp, so I couldn’t say what songs of his were good, but the songs that are presented in the film were pretty decent enough to certain highlight points throughout the movie. Though they are somewhat short (assuming not the whole song is being played), but still effectively good and nice to listen to. Might have to check out a few of the real songs one day. Lastly, the film’s score, which was done by John Debney, fits perfect with this movie; projecting the right amount of heartfelt tenderness in some scenes and inspirational melodies of enlightenment in others. Unfortunately, not all is found to be pure and religiously cinematic in the movie as I Still Believe gets weighed down with several major points of criticism and execution in the feature. How so? For starters, the movie feels a bit incomplete in Jeremy Camp’s journey. What’s presented works (somewhat), but it doesn’t hold up, especially because the Erwin Brothers have a difficult time in nailing down the right narrative path for the film to take. Of course, the thread of Jeremy and Melissa are the main central focus (and justly so), but pretty much everything else gets completely pushed aside, including Jeremy’s musical career rise to stardom and many of the various characters and their importance (more on that below). This also causes the film to have a certain pacing issues throughout the movie, with I Still Believe runtime of 116 minutes (one hour and fifty-six minutes) feeling longer than it should be, especially with how much narrative that the Erwin Brothers skip out on (i.e. several plot chunks / fragments are left unanswered or missing). Additionally, even if a viewer doesn’t know of Jeremy Camp’s story, I Still Believe does, for better or worse, follow a fairly predictable path that’s quite customary for faith-based movie. Without even reading anything about the real lives of Jeremy and Melissa prior to seeing the feature, it’s quite clearly as to where the story is heading and what will ultimately play out (i.e. plot beats and theatrical narrative act progression). Basically, if you’ve seeing one or two Christian faith-based film, you’ll know what to expect from I Still Believe. Thus, the Erwin Brothers don’t really try to creatively do something different with the film…. instead they reinforce the idealisms of Christian and of faith in a formulaic narrative way that becomes quite conventional and almost a bit lazy. There is also the movie’s dialogue and script handling, which does become problematic in the movie’s execution, which is hampered by some wooden / forced dialogue at certain scenes (becoming very preachy and cheesy at times) as well as the feeling of the movie’s story being rather incomplete. There’s a stopping point where the Erwin Brothers settle on, but I felt that there could’ve more added, including more expansion on his music career and several other characters. Then there is the notion of the film being quite secular in its appeal, which is quite understandable, but relies too heavy on its religious thematic messages that can be a bit “off-putting” for some. It didn’t bother me as much, but after seeing several other faith-based movies prior to this (i.e. I Can Only Imagine, Overcomer, Indivisible, etc.), this particular movie doesn’t really rise to Cursed in Love and falls prey to being rather generic and flat for most of its runtime. As you can imagine, I Still Believe, while certainly sincere and meaningful in its storytelling, struggles to find a happy balance in its narrative and execution presentation; proving to be difficult in conveying the whole “big picture” of its message and Jeremey Camp’s journey. The cast in I Still Believe is a mixed bag. To me, none of the acting talents are relatively bad (some are better than others…. I admit), but their characterizations and / or involvement in the film’s story is problematic to say the least. Leading the film’s narrative are two protagonist characters of Jeremy Camp and Melissa Henning, who are played by the young talents of K.J. Apa and Britt Robertson respectfully. Of the two, Apa, known for his roles in Riverdale, The Last Summer, and The Hate U Give, is the better equipped in character development and performance as the young and aspiring musical talent of Jeremy Camp. From the get-go, Apa has a likeable charm / swagger to him, which make his portrayal of Jeremy immediately endearing from onset to conclusion. All the scenes he does are well-represented (be it character-based or dramatic) and certainly sells the journey that Jeremy undergoes in the movie. Plus, Apa can also sing, which does lend credence to many of the scene’s musical performance. For Robertson, known for her roles in Tomorrowland, Ask Me Anything, and The Space Between Us, she gets hampered by some of the film’s wooden / cheesy dialogue. True, Robertson’s performance is well-placed and well-mannered in projecting a sense of youthful and dewy-eyed admiration in Mellissa, especially since the hardships here character undergoes in the feature, but it’s hard to get passed the cringeworthy dialogue written for her. Thus, Robertson’s Melissa ends up being the weaker of the two. That being said, both Apa and Robertson do have good on-screen chemistry with each other, which certainly does sell the likeable / loving young relationship of Jeremy and Melissa. In more supporting roles, seasoned talents like actor Gary Sinise (Forest Gump and Apollo 13) and musician singer Shania Twain play Jeremey’s parents, Tom and Terry Camp. While both Sinise and Twain are suitable for their roles as a sort of small town / Midwest couple vibe, their characters are little more than window dressing for the feature’s story. Their screen presence / star power lends weigh to the project, but that’s pretty much it; offering up a few nuggets to bolster a few particular scenes here and there, which is disappointing. Everyone else, including actor Nathan Parsons (General Hospital and Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water) as musical talent and mutual friend to both Jeremy and Melissa, Jean-Luc Lajoie, young actor Reuben Dodd (The Bridge and Teachers) as Jeremy’s handicapped younger brother, Joshua Camp, and his other younger brother, Jared Camp (though I can’t find out who played him the movie), are relatively made up in smaller minor roles that, while acted fine, are reduced to little more than just underdeveloped caricatures in the film, which is a shame and disappointing.
FINAL THOUGHTS
The power of faith, love, and affinity for music take center stage in Jeremy Camp’s life story in the movie I Still Believe. Directors Andrew and Jon Erwin (the Erwin Brothers) examine the life and times of Jeremy Camp’s life story; pin-pointing his early life with his relationship Melissa Henning as they battle hardships and their enduring love for one another through difficult times. While the movie’s intent and thematic message of a person’s faith through trouble times is indeed palpable as well as the likeable musical performances, the film certainly struggles to find a cinematic footing in its execution, including a sluggish pace, fragmented pieces, predicable plot beats, too preachy / cheesy dialogue moments, over utilized religious overtones, and mismanagement of many of its secondary /supporting characters. To me, this movie was somewhere between okay and “meh”. It was definitely a Christian faith-based movie endeavor (from start to finish) and definitely had its moments, but it just failed to resonate with me; struggling to find a proper balance in its undertaking. Personally, despite the story, it could’ve been better. Thus, my recommendation for this movie is an “iffy choice” at best as some will like (nothing wrong with that), while others will not and dismiss it altogether. Whatever your stance on religious faith-based flicks, I Still Believe stands as more of a cautionary tale of sorts; demonstrating how a poignant and heartfelt story of real-life drama can be problematic when translating it to a cinematic endeavor. For me, I believe in Jeremy Camp’s story / message, but not so much the feature.

Dramaland Forecast: June 2017
Previously: 2016 - Jan - Feb - Mar - Apr - May
Completed:
Radiant Office -- the little underdog that could! This show has nothing new to offer, but it was packaged with such warmth and heart and agonizing relatability that I fell for the Suicide Squad as they tried to prove they were worth being given a chance. This is currently my favorite show of the year -- at least for now.
Whisper -- what a wild and crazy ride. This is a show that, if left to my own devices, I probably would have dropped. Lee Bo Young and Kwon Yul kept my attention (poor Lee Sang Yoon and his eyebrows did their best, but I’m not sure if he’s really cut out for this kind of intensely dramatic role), and the show was utterly stolen by Kim Hyung Mook as Secretary Song. While I enjoyed the constant allusions to real-life corruption, this wasn’t what I’d consider to be one of Park Kyung Soo’s better dramas.
Tunnel -- I can appreciate it intellectually for what it was trying to do and what it accomplished, the concept was interesting, the cast was pretty great (Yoon Hyun Min was perfect as ever, but as much as I love Sexy Demon Daddy, he really needed to dial down the shouting). But for whatever reason, it didn’t grab me as it should have. On paper it has everything I’d want in a mystery/thriller, but in reality it was difficult giving it my full attention and my heart just couldn’t connect with any of the characters. I enjoyed it for the most part, but it’s going to be one of those dramas that I’ll immediately forget I ever watched.
Individualist Ms. Ji Young -- this drama special hit some very painful nerves but in the best way. There are shadows of Flower Boy Next Door with the bubbly neighbor that barges his way into the life of the loner-next-door. But there’s also a darker sadness and realness here that one doesn’t always find in dramas. Perhaps that’s why, even beyond the fact it’s only two 1-hour episodes, this felt more like a movie than a drama. This is by far my favorite romance I’ve watched this year, which probably tells you too much about my tastes (or at least my inner world).
Currently watching:
Super Family 2017
Chicago Typewriter
Recent premieres I plan to check out when I have a chance:
Fight My Way
Lookout
Circle
Dropping/skipping:
My Sassy Girl -- despite loving Joo Won in Gaksital, I just haven’t been able to get into his other dramas. I also have a terrible track record for sageuks, be they fusion or not. This means it’s on the “skip” list even if I have hopes for the fantastic Oh Yeon Seo in the titular role.
Suspicious Partner -- I loved this writer’s previous work (All About My Romance; Protect the Boss) so this may go into the watch list eventually, but nothing I’ve heard so far has made me want to immediately pick it up.
Upcoming dramas of interest:
The Best Hit -- I am really excited about this one, because I loved the docu-style from Producer until it turned into a standard drama. I also love Yu PD, and Cha Tae Hyun has been my favorite of the 1N2D members ever since the original crew moved on to other things, so I’m curious to see how they’ll handle directing their first-ever drama together. Also, as a fan of the slice-of-life genre, I'm hoping it will be along those lines just based on the premise. Last but not least, this cast is incredible, and I’m already anticipating a slew of cameos.
Duel -- I was only vaguely interested in this because it’s from the writer of Nine: Nine Times Time Travel and Queen In Hyun’s Man (and I’m assuming this is the writer who focused on the more sci-fi mind-bendy aspects of those dramas ‘cause this one has clones) but given a choice to recap this one, I took it, because I have a feeling this will be fun to write about.
Forest of Secrets -- I’m hoping giving this one up for Duel won’t haunt me because omg this caaaaaaaaaaast.
Woman of Dignity -- I’m so nervous and conflicted. I adore Kim Sun Ah and Kim Hee Sun, and having them work together in a show is like a dream come true. But I really hated the writing of SWDBS and don’t trust this writer to do these incredible women justice. *fingers crossed for a miracle*
Bad Guys: Age of Evil -- everyone’s gnashing their teeth that the original crew aren’t coming back but I’m over here already anticipating Park Sung Woong and (possibly) Kang Ha Neul.
As always, any drama not listed means I have nothing new to add since the last mention and/or it’s not something I care about enough to add to the list.
