Made my first fan edit in over a decade (in my day they were called fanvids). Apparently you can't use copyrighted music longer than a minute on tiktok (it was easier to get round copyright in my day also) so this one is just for you tumblr. Also let's ignore the clips with logos in because I'm not getting clean versions to re-edit it, it's 8am and I haven't been to sleep (thanks ADHD hyperfocus stopping me from literally noticing the sun coming up!)

Edit: Had some sleep so now time to write a ridiculous number of words about a 3 minute edit! This was a lot of fun to make, I forgot how fun video editing is and capcut is a dream compared to windows movies maker and sony vegas (which was what all the cool kids were using for some reason in the mid 2000s but I never got the hang of it).

It also reminded me how fun some of the dance numbers are. Like I love Dancing in the Moonlight and Twistin' the Night Away. I know for the latter they originally had a choreographed routine but it was scrapped and and they were told improvise and have fun. It's something that definitely comes across in the final scene and it makes it feel more authentically like three siblings messing around.

Also in editing the video scenes I noticed stuff I wouldn't have otherwise. Emmy breaks multiple times because she's having so much fun (it's left in because it makes sense for her to laugh in the moment but Emmy's laugh is very different to Allison's).

The weird dance Diego does with the sword during Another One Bites the Dust, and the fact Lila has to fully step back at one point to not get hit in the face! I always thought Lila was just pulling Five in by the hand for a hug in the same scene but you can see them dancing together in the background throughout. I knew they danced together at the wedding but Five was blackout drunk at that point so it's fun to see him dancing with her at a time when he's...well not sober, but definitely less drunk.

Also as an aside, in the first draft of the script for S1E1 it's shown explicitly that Five is uncomfortable with touch after years in the apocalypse. Though the scene in question didn't make it into later drafts, it still feels implied to me throughout season 1 and it makes me feel happy to see how far he's come, seeming genuinely comfortable with Lila's affection. Also if anyone is interested in the idea of him struggling with touch @soshadysoquiet has a great fic exploring this (though rather than my view that he's become accustomed to, and comfortable with touch it posits that he's dealing with so much due to the apocalypse he doesn't recognise touch as the cause of his distress).

I also think there's a sort of theme happening in the partner dances during Footloose, rather than the characters being paired randomly but that will take long enough to explain it needs it's own post, even if this one wasn't already obscenely long.

The first rays of sunlight gently seeped through the curtains, casting a soft golden glow over the room. The house was still and quiet, the calm before the joyous storm of the day. Y/N stirred, her eyes fluttering open to the comforting warmth of Matt’s embrace. His arm was draped protectively over her, and she could feel the steady rhythm of his breathing against her back.

"G'morning, beautiful." Matt murmured, his voice husky with sleep as he nuzzled into her neck.

Y/N turned to face him, a smile playing on her lips.

"Good morning, my love."

Their mornings had a rhythm, a dance perfected over time. The first task was always the same: waking up their little girl. Matt slipped out of bed first, pulling on a T-shirt and pajama pants, covering his half-naked body, before heading down the hallway to their daughter’s room. Y/N followed closely behind, savoring the quiet moments before the day began in earnest.

Their daughter, Lily, was still asleep, her tiny form nestled among a sea of stuffed animals - some of them being Matt's old ones - and blankets. Matt leaned over the crib, his expression softening as he watched her.

"Time to wake up, princess." He whispered, gently brushing a brown stray curl from her face, exactly like his.

Lily stirred, her eyes opening slowly to the sight of her father’s smiling face.

"Daddy!" She exclaimed, her voice filled with sleepy excitement as she reached up for him.

Matt carefully lifted her into his arms, creating a cocoon with his hands around her, exhaling the soft smell of baby perfume that permeated her skin.

"Morning, petal. Did you sleep well?"

"Yes, Daddy." She giggled, her laughter filling the room, feeling tickles from the way Matt caressed her small cheek with his nose.

"Hey, baby girl." Y/N joined them, kissing Lily’s forehead before leading her to the bathroom for a quick wash.

While Y/N handled Lily’s morning routine, Matt headed to the kitchen to prepare breakfast. It was an unspoken agreement between them, a seamless division of tasks that made their mornings flow smoothly.

Matt moved with practiced ease, preparing Lily’s favorite breakfast: pancakes with a smiley face made of berries. He hummed softly to himself a random song from a Disney movie, a habit he’d picked up since becoming a father. Every action, every movement, was infused with a love that radiated through the entire house.

In the bathroom, Y/N helped Lily brush her teeth, her hands gentle but efficient.

"Let’s get you all clean and ready for the day, my little star." She said, her voice soft and soothing.

Lily giggled, her eyes sparkling with joy.

"Mommy, can I wear my princess dress today? Pretty please? I want to look like a real princess!"

"Of course, darling." Y/N replied, her heart swelling with love for her little girl. "Even tho you don't need a dress to look like a princess, you're already one."

With Lily clean and dressed, Y/N guided her to the kitchen, where the aroma of freshly cooked pancakes filled the air. Matt was waiting for them, a proud grin on his face as he presented the breakfast platter.

"Look, Mommy! Daddy made smiley pancakes!" Lily exclaimed, her eyes wide with delight while letting her mother put her on the taller chair.

Y/N chuckled, wrapping her arms around Matt’s waist after making sure her daughter was secure.

"You always know how to make breakfast special, don’t you?"

Matt kissed her forehead, his eyes filled with adoration.

"Anything for my girls."

They sat down to eat, the morning light casting a warm glow over the kitchen table. Lily chattered animatedly about her dreams and her plans for the day, her parents listening with rapt attention. Matt’s eyes often flickered to Y/N, admiration and love evident in every glance, muttering small "I love you's" now and then.

After breakfast, it was time for the next part of their routine. Y/N took charge of cleaning up the kitchen while Matt got Lily ready for their outing. He helped her put on her shoes and coat, ensuring she was bundled up warmly for the cold outside.

"You excited to go to the park, petal?" Matt asked, crouching down to her level.

"Yes, Daddy! I want to go on the swings!" She said, bouncing with excitement, making it hard for Matt to fix her shoes.

Matt chuckled, ruffling her hair affectionately after making sure she was ready to go.

"Alright, let’s get going then."

Y/N joined them, her coat already on and a smile on her face.

"Ready when you are." She said, taking Matt’s hand in hers.

The walk to the park was filled with laughter and playful banter. Matt held Lily’s hand on one side while Y/N held the other. They walked in step, a picture of perfect harmony. Along the way, they pointed out different things to Lily - a bird perched on a tree, a squirrel scurrying across the path, the colorful flowers blooming along the sidewalk - which Lily ran to pick up one of the fallen ones, remembering her mother's teaching never to take a flower from its stem.

At the park, Lily immediately ran towards the swings, her laughter echoing through the air as Matt pushed her gently. Y/N watched them from the closest bench, her heart full as she saw her little and perfect family.

Matt caught Y/N’s gaze and smiled, his eyes twinkling with love.

"She’s having so much fun." He said, his voice filled with contentment.

"She is." Y/N agreed, moving closer to him. "And so am I."

They spent the morning at the park, playing with Lily and enjoying each other’s company. Matt was attentive and caring, always making sure Y/N and Lily were happy and comfortable.

As the sun climbed higher in the sky, they decided it was time to head home. Matt carried a tired but happy Lily on his shoulders, her small hands clutching his hair as she dozed off. Y/N walked beside them, her right hand securely palming Lily's back, making sure that she wouldn't fall, her heart overflowing with love and gratitude.

Back at home, they settled Lily into her bed for a nap. Matt and Y/N then curled up on the couch together, enjoying the quiet moment of peace. Matt wrapped his arms around Y/N, pulling her close.

"You know, I’m so lucky to have you." He whispered, his voice filled with emotion.

Y/N looked up at him, her eyes shining with love.

"We’re lucky to have each other." She replied, leaning in to kiss him softly.

The hum of the engine filled the car as the song stopped and Denki continued driving down the road. The last few weekends had consisted of Denki riling up whoever he could to come out on an adventure in his new car.

You sat in the middle back seat between Hanta and Katsuki, leaning your head against the headrest you let out a heavy sigh. A wave of relief washed over you finally being able to take your mind off responsibilities for a moment.

These random weekend adventures always lifted a weight off your shoulders and allowed you to enjoy your youth.

In the front seat, Hitoshi shifted uncomfortably. Hitoshi was a new addition to your usual cast of shenanigans. Denki had quickly befriended him much to the dismay of Katsuki who detested anyone new.

"What's Kirishima doing tonight?" Hanta asked curiously. Denki fiddled with his phone at a red light attempting to change the song.

"Oh, he is busy with Ashido~," Denki said in a sing-song voice.

"Tch- that's why you picked up this mind freak?" Katsuki huffed, making his disdain for a new face heard.

"Hey play nice blasty!" Denki called back to him.

Katsuki grunted and you giggled pinching his cheek, "Come on don't be rude," You teased.

"Cut it out!" Katsuki yelled smacking your hand away.

The light turned green, and Denki shoved his phone into Hitoshi's hand. "Why don't you be DJ man?" Denki suggested as he focused back on driving.

"You want me to choose a song?" Hitoshi clarified.

"Yeah, go ahead! I want to hear what you usually listen to!" Denki said encouragingly.

Hitoshi fiddled with Denki's phone until selecting the song Atmosphere by Joy Division.

"Oh! I love this song!" You exclaimed and began to sing.

Hitoshi's eyes wandered to the rearview mirror where he caught the reflection of you singing. The calm smile that painted your face as you sang the words perfectly caused his stomach to flutter.

However, the euphoria your playfulness gave him came crashing down when he noticed how your eyes wandered to Katsuki. Your eyes danced as they admired his face as if you were waiting for Katsuki to acknowledge you.

But what if you knew he looked at you the way you longed for Katsuki too?

His stomach only soured the more he observed the interaction. Katsuki's gaze stayed out the window completely indifferent to the softness of your expressions and the longingness in your eyes.

As if your soft features and carefree personality weren't enough to do him in, your voice was intoxicating as well. Hitoshi was sure he could spend a whole day listening to you sing his favorite songs.

Denki's voice infiltrated Hitoshi's daydream shattering his lovely image of you singing just for him.

"Alright, we're here!" Denki announced.

"About fucking time- had enough of being in this stupid car," Katsuki exclaimed and threw open the door exiting eagerly.

Hitoshi's eyes followed your figure as you quickly jumped out after Katsuki. The way the moonlight hit your skin as soon as you stepped out and your features bounced as you happily sprang in excitement forced him to suck in air to ground himself.

"You ready man?" Denki asked, noticing Hitoshi's slowness.

"Yeah," Hitoshi answered, forcing himself to blink away his desires and exit the car.

You five began to walk up a hiking trail. Denki had claimed the view had to be amazing at night, and hiking was one of the only things he could get Katsuki to agree to come to.

Hitoshi was new to the group and hung back observing the four of your interactions. It didn't take long for him to notice your gaze never left Katsuki. He was always in your line of vision and most of all he was the main person you responded to in the conversation. The other two boys might as well not have been there at all in your eyes.

Eventually, the conversation pushed you out as the three boys got into a heated discussion regarding something pointless.

Hitoshi quickened his pace, taking this opportunity to speak more with you.

"Hey," He called out to get your attention.

"Hey general studies~," You teased.

Hitoshi would have corrected you that he was enrolling in the hero course now, but your teasing caught him off guard and it took all his concentration not to be flustered by your comment.

"How are you enjoying the hike so far?" You asked.

"It's fine-," He shrugged his shoulders." So- what usually happens on these night outs?" he asked.

"Hmm- well usually we try to get in as much trouble as we can before Bakugo yells at us to go back," You giggled.

Hitoshi's nose scrunched up at the sound of how you sang out Katsuki's name. Your crush on him was all too evident.

But why?

What did you see in that belligerent blond?

“Are you excited to be in the hero course now?” you asked, snapping Hitoshi out of his thoughts.

“Yes of course. It’s all I’ve ever wanted… I’m especially excited to get to know everyone more.” He stated.

“Oh, that’s funny~ last I remember you said you weren’t here to make friends.” You teased.

Hitoshi flushed slightly at your comment, “Yes, I did say that- however, I find myself particularly excited to get to know you more. Speaking of that- would you like to go out to eat sometime?” He asked.

His words took the breath out of your lungs and froze your footsteps. Hitoshi stopped and turned to face you, taking in your shocked expression. You had never been asked out so straightforward before- nor did you expect it from your new classmate. And then there was your feelings for-…

Hitoshi spoke, bringing you out of your spiraling thoughts.

“It’s Bakugo, isn’t it?” He asked simply.

His words sent you into even more peril. In the brief time Hitoshi has spent with you he had picked up your crush on Katsuki. Was it that obvious?

“Is he your boyfriend?” Hitoshi asked further.

You stuttered like an idiot not knowing how to form a sentence after being so taken off guard. “He- well no he’s not but- I uh- I don’t-,” you tried to get out anything that would make sense. Thankfully, Hitoshi hated seeing you in such discomfort.

“It’s all right. You don’t have to explain, I think I understand. However… if you’re ever tired of waiting for him to appreciate you like he should- I can assure you I’d do a better job.” He spoke.

Your eyes searched his, completely overwhelmed by his boldness. His expression was genuine, calm, and serious. Hitoshi had every intention of laying out his affinity for you honestly and politely. It was unlike anything you had experienced before- and left you speechless.

“The hell are you two doing back there?” Katsuki spewed looking back at you both. In the fleeting moment you two had stopped to speak, the three boys had made some considerable distance.

Hitoshi let out a disgruntled sigh, the angry chihuahua's temper poked at his nerves. It was past cruel that such a vulgar man would have your affection. However, as Hitoshi averted his gaze from you to Katsuki he saw for the first time a quick shimmer of possessiveness in the blond's eyes.

Did Katsuki have some feelings for you after all? Or was it just his ego that appreciated your attention? Whatever the case, the tension that held between the two students was not going to be the last.

10 Reasons Why I Actually Loved The Crow Remake

FKA Twigs - I'm not going to sit here and pretend I am not a huge twigs fan, because I love anything she touches and especially her music. This was her first time as a leading lady and I thought she did a good job. I do think there were some points where her line reading could have been a little more fast paced in some spots, but overall, I think she was captivating, eloquent and emotional. And wow, so many stunning visuals that we got of her from this movie!

2. We didn't have to see depictions of brutal and violent deaths of women in this film. I didn't want to spend too many of my thoughts on comparisons to the original The Crow, but one thing I noticed was that I didn't have to endure the violent and sexually abusive death of Shelly or any other woman in this movie. I do like the original movie but never cared for the way they went all in on Shelly's death. In this remake, we still see Shelly die but we don't have to endure gratuitous SA scenes whilst losing the leading lady. I appreciated that and was able to relax more, honestly.

3. The villain had actual motivation for killing and being a villain. There was some decent backstory and character development for the villain and that is something that I always appreciate. Some of my favorite pieces of media (like Spirited Away and Knives Out) do well to at least give the villain a story or a reason for being bad. I think it adds depth to the story and for me, helps immerse me into the plot more.

4. It felt like a comic book come to life. From the color grading and palette to the way scenes were cut and moved from one to the next, it felt like I was flipping through a comic book. There were moments that were very whimsical in depictions of love and then very gritty scenes. The contrast in some of those scenes felt similar to flipping a page in a comic.

5. It was very romantic and spent a lot of time focusing on their love story. I thought their love was believable and felt like that whirlwind kind of love where you just want to party and kiss all night. It gave me a reason to care about both of the characters and it gave Shelly a place in the spotlight where she becomes so much more than just a symbol of loss for character development. Focusing on their love and giving us some romance was a timeless decision and puts their love story up there with Romeo and Juliet or Christian and Sateen.

6. Soundtrack was amazing! If you are into some new wave, some goth tunes and some dance tracks, this is the playlist for you. Beyond just the soundtrack, it was truly a different experience to see it synced up to parts of the movie as intended. The intro was amazing, I thought it was like a James Bond meets Underworld mixed with some NIN music video sprinkled in there. The folks who worked on the score deserve a standing ovation. There were moments where I was tearing up because of how well the music paired with the scene. Most memorable and moving was Joy Division's Disorder when they bust out of rehab together and a perfectly placed Boadicea by Enya. There were so many other good ones too, I'm seriously considering seeing it again just for the mini music videos you get from the film.

7. It was aesthetically pleasing. And I'm not just talking about the eye candy that was Bill Skarsgård, though lets give him his flowers for being a true Mr. Fanservice! The actual visuals were beautiful. I loved the cinematography and color choices. It was truly a feast for the eyes. Just take a look at this beautiful gif set by pizgif!

8. I could easily see a story about grief and the longing for justice for loved ones. I thought it was a good story and as I watched it, I thought to myself that the person who wrote the original comic must have gone through an immense loss. It wasn't until I looked it up that it seems to be confirmed that The Crow was inspired by such loss. The moodiness of the movie itself added to the weight of the tragic storyline. In that, I liked that it takes a while for Eric to become The Crow. Losing someone you love transforms you and in this sense, the movie is all about that transformation and pain and longing.

9. I liked the ending. I don't want to say too much to spoil it, but I enjoyed the different ending and I was definitely teary eyed and sniffling as I left the theater.

10. It was goth as fuck. I think goth can be a multitude of styles and honestly shouldn't be something that has a gatekeeper. This was emo-boy-goth, it was e-boy-tiktok-hottie-goth, it was goth in a different flavor. I think folks are quick to see this new Eric not dressed like a new-wave-leather-daddy-goth as decidedly not dark enough. To quote a favorite musician, he was "goth as fuck, even when [he's] not in black, gothic is the pain you feel and not the clothes that's on your back."

Closing thoughts: A lot of the negative criticism is coming from men or diehard fans of the 1994 movie, so I am not surprised. This rendition felt like the same story, just done differently and with more emphasis on the love story than the revenge plot. There is nothing wrong with that and nothing wrong with a gothic romance heavy action flick.

This was intended to be a different version of The Crow and that isn't a bad thing. I personally think that if they had done the styling to be an exact replica of Brandon Lee's rendition then the movie would still get tons of hate, if not more. It was a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation for sure. I'm glad they took a risk and deviated from the '94 version.

We have been doing remakes since the creation of art. It has always been common to hear that the new movie coming out is actually a retelling of this classic tale or continuation of that scary story. Remakes are not a new concept and some of them do well to tell the same story in a different way. We are in the day and age where there isn't really an original idea anymore, anyway. In a world full of countless retellings of Batman/Joker and Spiderman movies, why not remake The Crow? I say fire it up!

I think they do a good job to pave the way for others to retell this love story in the same vein as The Joker and Harley Quinn. Hell, I would say to keep going, next let's see a remake where The Crow is about two badass lesbians. (I might have gotten too peppered up watching the movie, it was hot.)

P.S. I loved that there were little things like Eric wearing Shelly's jacket later in the movie. I feel like a lot of critics saw him wearing this jacket and were quick to bash the costume design too, but this is the kind of attention to detail that made their love believable to me. And I thought he looked cute as hell in it.
