Leverage Team Secret Santa

The Leverage team decides to do a Secret Santa one year.

Parker has no idea what to get Nate, "What do you get a guy with a weird controlling people thing??" until someone reminds her that he's also a "functioning alcoholic" so she looks up well-guarded alcohol and steals him a couple bottles of very nice, very pricey, formerly very secured scotch.

Nate gets Hardison some rare Star Wars and Star Trek memorabilia, along with a shirt that says "Age of the Geek Baby."

Hardison agonizes over what to get Sophie, he doesn't trust himself to do clothes (what if she doesn't like them or they don't fit?!) and eventually gets her a sort of advent calendar of ticket coupons. 12 venues, she picks the date, and Hardison will put her on their guest list/acquire a ticket (options are a couple spas and several theaters).

Sophie gives Eliot a set of high end cooking knives and some animal ice packs for post-mission bruises.

Eliot was going to give Parker money but then decided it'd be more fun to make her some cupcakes and hide a golden dollar in half of them. She thought it was hilarious.

You know what I'd love to see? I'd love to see an episode of leverage redeption, where one of Archie's kids or grandkids make an appearance. To find out that Parker's maintained a relationship with Archie's family, that she's recognised as part of that family. Partly because I want Parker to have as much family as possible; and partly because I want it to be shown that Archie was wrong. That if given a chance, they would have demonstrated the love and support she deserved in all her (traumatised autistic) Parker glory.

I've been thinking about how we're now getting backstory of the leverage team in redeption and how we knew so little of them in the OG show (a detail I love). But it's not like they're all strangers, but how we know about their past is so disinct and says so much about them and idk if it was on purpose, but im having brainrot.

Like you have Hardison and we know things about him, because he tells us about them. He has an emotionally healthy environment, so he tells us he grew up with Nana.

Then Parker, is Parker. She doesn't give us many details, she doesn't tell us about it. What we know of her is through how she acts and reacts to things. Like with The Stork Job. Her past has taught her to keep everything close to her chest and to never express anything, but she works with her body and through that you get to know her.

Eliot also never says anything, that's dangerous in his line of work and he doesn't want to talk about what happened to him. We only see flashes of his past when something reminds him of his past. It's literally flashbacks, like can happen with people with PTSD.

Now, Nate is technically the normal one, at least past-wise. However, he's turned into a closed off man. But the remnants of his old life tell his story to the audience. You have the priest guy, Maggie, Sterling, hell, even Blackpoole. The old life he left behind is still there and through them you learn of Nate's life before leverage.

And then you have Sophie. You never really learn anything about Sophie. She stays a grifter through and through and you only learn about the things she used to do by old characters she picks back up again with this team, like in The King George Job.

I just think that's so interesting. There's overlap of course, you got Moreau as a person that comes back and flashbacks for all of them, but these are the primary ways you learn of them and I love that :D

I love how little chill the team has for Jenna and Keith. Like I don’t know if they hacked her phone when she got the job over Breanna or when she was at the food truck declaring her undying wish to take this guy down. But they adopted her and Keith when she did and he was reasonable and supported her. And are now her fairy crime parents.

Oh you need an opportunity to bring a contract to them, we cancel the upcoming one and let’s get you to come visit us, it’s lunch time and you must be hungry (and I doubt they actually ran the cards to pay for those lunches.

Oh you are gonna be at our place alone with him. We drug him for you.

Oh you can’t get the contracts with Carol there we will take her on a date.

Oh you need in his office alone we set off fire alarm.

Oh you have people trying to grab you Eliot will take care of that without you knowing it is a problem.

Oh you need in safe, here is how to break into safe.

Oh you caught let’s get something to turn them on each other to your partner to buy time til the police get there to check on the fire alarm.

What do you mean we are suppose to wait more than 0.5 seconds after you make a request before fulfilling it. We spoil our children here and you two have been secretly adopted by us just now.

Also quite literally here is our card call us for a job.

All I have to say is I hope we see them in future episodes as members of Leverage International.

Leverage Redemption (2021)

I'm going to have to contest a bit when it comes to the notion that a white nationalist wouldn't have a minority chief engineer. Not even to go deep into colorism and the jumps that white nationalism goes through to spread by assimilating other groups into the "white" umbrella. White supremacy is insidious like that. Exploiting a brilliant worker absolutely would be in line with that. She, also, is one of the few workers not in line with him. It seems so bringing her to this meeting, showing off his power, and putting her in an uncomfortable situations with people who likely see her as a lesser being is a power play I can totally believe. He snaps at her to get her to fetch coffee. HIS CHIEF ENGINEER! She could be explaining the battery to the investors and he has her fetching coffee like a servant for someone who he supposes holds the same disgusting views he has.

She talks about how "lucky" she is to be a chief engineer, I can't help but wonder if she is being underpaid or set up to take the fall when the project goes under.

- umm. pretty sure someone involved in white nationalism wouldn't have an asian-american woman as his chief engineer. and if he did, he wouldn't have brought her on this particular trip, what with all the white nationalists around.

- gina's german is... interesting, but her german ACCENT is amazing. and i say that as both a german and a linguist. (i always thought she did a great job on her german accent, even back in the original days. still the same now. but yeah i don't think i've ever heard a single english native speaker speak actual german believably. which is weird because it's not THAT hard, linguistically speaking. like, gina should've had a harder time with italian pronunciation than with german, and as far as i can tell with my admittedly very limited skills (though i did grow up around italians), her italian pronunciation in the fake car job is PERFECT.)

- more eliot and harry heart-to-heart! 😍 "did you ever think i'd last this long?" - "not at first. but let me ask you a question. how far d'you want to go? see, a lot of people, they just change a little. they take a look at their past and realise it's too much to overcome. but you, you've stared your past in the face, and you kept on digging. i guess what i'm saying is... you could be a part of this team—long-term." oh my god. okay. this is at the very heart of harry wilson's character, and i'm pretty sure it's foreshadowing for the finale. (i THINK i have a vague idea where they're going with the finale, which means they're probably going in a completely different direction.) but the question IS how far is harry willing to go? will making up for his past actions, as much as that's even possible given that people have suffered and even died because of things harry helped make happen, be enough for harry? it wasn't for eliot. lbr eliot has most definitely saved more people now that he killed, no question. but while harry might never have pulled the trigger himself, so to speak, he probably has more blood on his hands than eliot does, albeit indirectly—his actions have most likely harmed far more people than eliot's did. and eliot "will never be clean of that", and neither will harry. and we already know that helping people can become a bit of an addiction, too. our team got bored doing regular crime when they broke up after the original first season. i know we've had other moments of foreshadowing that are supposed to tell us harry might at some point leave, go back to being a lawyer, just without the "evil" part. but CAN he, really? is he going to be able to leave all this behind? i think eliot's been asking himself that same question—will harry eventually leave, or will he stick around?
