While we discuss the records that transcend their eras with their success, we must know some musicians have many more platters in this vein present in their opuses. To give you an example – Billy Joel had many records from the late 70's and the 80's that fit the description, yet these also show the problem we might have with him now. Allow me to elucidate – he's a brilliant songwriter, but he's not satisfied with that, which results in way too polished production. His late 70's found the best balance of these two principles, both The Stranger and 52nd Street make him sound real. You see, his biggest problem might be that his tunes at one point became a signifier of rich rock thanks to him having the access to the best tools. You see, his songs need more grit, not gold.

Rascals Drummer Dino Danelli Dies at 78
Dino Danelli, drummer for the Rascals, has died at age 78.
Danelli’s Dec. 15 death was announced by his spokesman and fellow drummer Joe Russo. A cause of death was not given.
“I hope you will all continue to appreciate (Danelli’s) talent and send him your love,” Russo said in a statement.
“Thank you for supporting his various endeavors throughout his career. You all made it possible for him to live his dream, which was to be a musician and artist.”
Liberty DeVitto, longtime drummer for Billy Joel, called Danelli “my inspiration and a dear friend” who “will always be in my heart.”
Formed as the Young Rascals in 1964 the group scored hits like “Good Lovin’,” “Groovin’,” and “People Got to be Free” before disbanding in 1972.
Fellow Rascal Gene Cornish called Danelli “my brother and the greatest drummer I’ve ever seen.
“I am devastated at this moment. Rest in peace, Dino. I love you, brother.”

Marshall Oakman is back with a new studio work: "When Life's Cold”
Somewhere in between 60s-inspired pop rock and modern songwriting excellence.
December 2023 - Marshall Oakman is a singer-songwriter with a vision: staying true to the sounds of the golden age of pop and rock while embracing fresh contemporary aesthetics that bring these timeless influences to a new generation of listeners. His most recent studio work, "When Life's Cold", is an amazing example of his capability. This production is crisp and edgy, showcasing melody and dynamics and serving as a fantastic calling card for Marshall, who gets to stand out here.
"When Life's Cold" is a remarkable piece of music that feels both nostalgic and fresh, capturing the warmth of vintage sounds while embracing the clarity you would expect from a piece of music recorded in this day and age. In addition to the excellent sonics, the track also offers a very positive message. "When Life's Cold" advocates trying to look at the bright side of life, even in the face of difficult times. Despite our challenges, it is important to always choose optimism and be proactive. This is probably the best way to find peace within and come out on top, even when dealing with some tough situations. It's really all about that positive mental attitude! "When Life's Cold" is a truly empowering piece of music which emphasizes resilience and a brighter perspective on things amid adversity.
"When Life's Cold" is distinctive for its blend of great melodies and exciting soundscapes, which take the listeners back to a time when you could really feel the musicianship and chemistry that happens when great songs come to life. Marshall stands out not only as an amazing songwriter but also as a gifted performer who knows what it is like to embed so much talent and creativity in his work, from conception to arrangement and everything in between. In addition, the song also features an incredible set of collaborators, namely Kasim Sultan (Joan Jett), on bass, Liberty Devitto (Billy Joel Band), on drums and Paul Pesco (Madonna), on guitar.
"When Life's Cold" is highly recommended to fans of artists such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and The Kinks, to mention a few.

MSB “City Living”
Tumblr media
THIS SONG WON THE 2022 USA SONGWRITING COMPETITION IN THE JAZZ CATEGORY. They say a good song can work in any style…but some deserve a big band… City Living was written by an Americana tunesmith with rock pedigree (Michael Sackler-Berner) and a Steinway endorsed pianist specializing in improvisational classical and international pop hits (Jeff Franzel). Yet here it is – undeniably a Jazz song. MSB was making a record called Short Stories where each tune lived in a different world – whichever world was most suited to the song’s natural stylistic leaning. City Living, a tribute to MSB’s late grandfather who was a jazz musician in the Catskills in his youth, leaned into the big band world. So what you hear on this recording is a live big band and a singer, together, recorded to tape in a big old recording studio in Brooklyn. Old school NY magic in a room. I suspect somewhere Grandpa Milty is happy. MSB BIO BELOW: Singer-songwriter MSB has spent the last 20 years writing songs that build upon the American tradition of the rock n’ roll troubador. It has led to a stockpile of songs about life, time, and love – as well as hundreds of performances in the United States and Canada in clubs and theaters. MSB’s songs have been featured in over 40+ primetime television placements and been produced by Steve Jordan, Bob Thiele Jr., and David Kahne, amongst others. He has ongoing partnerships with musicians Liberty DeVitto and Nick Movshon, and his work has been championed by record label brass like Bruce Lundvall and Bill Burrs. MSB has produced music for Grammy and Oscar winning singer-songwriter Leo Sidran, written songs for Columbia Records artist Ari Hest, and Atlantic Records artist Enisa. MSB’s songs and recordings have been published and released by Sony, Universal, Duchamp, Ocean Park Music Group and Concord. MSB can also be found touring and recording with The Slim Kings. Ronnie Spector Dies at 78
Ronnie Spector, the Ronettes frontwoman and voice of songs like “Be My Baby,” “Walking in the Rain” and “Baby I Love You,” died Jan. 12 “after a brief battle with cancer,” her family said.
“Ronnie lived her life with a twinkle in her eye, a spunky attitude, a wicked sense of humor and a smile on her face,” they said. “She was filled with love and gratitude.”
Spector was 78.
“This just breaks my heart,” Brian Wilson said, noting he listened to “Be My Baby” more than any other song.
“I loved her voice so much and she was a very special person and a dear friend,” Wilson said.
Liberty DeVitto eulogized Spector as “the Queen of Rock and Roll.” The family of the late Eddie Money, with whom Spector recorded 1986’s “Take Me Home Tonight,” called the singer “legendary” in offering condolences to her family.
“May Ronnie Spector rest in eternal love and peace,” Todd Rundgren’s Spirit of Harmony Foundation said. “Thank you for the music.”
After the Ronettes’ 1968 breakup and Spector’s mid-1970s divorce from producer Phil Spector, she returned as a solo artist, recording “Say Goodbye to Hollywood” and “Baby Please Don’t Go,” with the E Street Band in 1977.
“It was an honor to … encourage her to get back on stage where she remained for the next 45 years,” Van Zandt said. “Her record with the E Street Band helped sustain us at a very precarious time. … Condolences to her husband and family."

Liberty DeVitto is unserious. He did not have the worst Billy Joel's Drummer experience and he knows it. He didn't fuck your wife, Liberty.
