one thing i am always so particularly nitpicky on is the fact of how people will misunderstand the whole 42 thing in the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy sentiment. most people always are on about how it's the answer or something, and that is not true and it kind of defeats the whole significance of 42. 42 is not the answer to life, the universe and everything but rather, 42 is the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe and everything. there's a huge difference and the fact that it is not the direct answer but actually an answer to whatever the question is, that fact is important. it's the whole thing about not asking the right questions and all of that. because we literally do not know what the question is, we just know whatever the ultimate question, the answer is 42.

All cosmic horrors begin in the shells of children. What's next is to decide: Will you inflict the chaos you suffered onto the next child, or protect them from it? Thus as we shed our first skins, we either decay into cosmic horrors or grow and bring compassion to that cosmos.

Until then, probably Nintendo and potato chips.

People talk about old people becoming "set in their ways", sometimes with the assumption the loss of mental flexibility is either a biological effect of aging on the brain, or just that once you become used to living and thinking in a certain way it becomes difficult to do anything else. But sometimes I wonder how much of it is really just a sunk cost thing... like once you hit your sixties or seventies, admitting to being wrong about a major element of your worldview means admitting that whatever chunk of your life was based around that thing was a total waste of time, at a point in life when you don't really have enough time left to "make up for" the waste (or any wrong/harmful actions you might have committed) in any meaningful way before you die. Of course nobody having to face their own mortality in the near future wants to believe that they wasted their life on a bunch of pointless or evil bullshit, that would be psychologically devastating. So I try not to judge my parents or other people their age too harshly for not being able to learn or change very much at this point.

I sometimes also think about this in relation to the idea of radical life extension and whether it would actually be terrible because society would become stuck in a rut or whatever.... like I dunno, change can be really hard for people but if you're deciding whether or not to make a major change at eighty years old it probably makes a difference whether you've already used up 90% of your allotted lifespan or only 20% of it.

Should be no surprise at this point, but keeping up with social media is difficult for me. Fell in and out of a couple of fandoms, did my first Art Fight, and started a HUGE new project. I'll post a more 'official' announcement with links and everything at more acceptable internet hours XD But given that I've been particularly neglectful of Tumblr and the community here, figure I should do a quick run down and share some of the art and such. So for the last couple years, I've been working with @cryophase [friend, writer, and general cool person] to create this sci-fi/supernatural/post apocalyptic story, ARES FOLLY

This is Adric. He's a struggling artist with daddy issues who's just trying to survive on an deserted alien world. And he might end up stumbling into supernatural powers.

and Harper, whose main goal is to use her training in engineering to help her new broken home world thrive!

We’ll be using both Tapas and Webtoons, and it will be ongoing and available for FREE [there will be links if you wanna support us and the comic, but I'll post those with the rest of the links].
