So... here are my thoughts/interpretation, and I am open to anyone who has other view points:

1) I’m assuming, the reason the other victors kept Peeta behind to guard Beetee, was more to insure Katniss was coming back... but it’s also more complicated in a way: Beetee needed protecting while he rigged the lightingtree, but the pool of protectors was small, only 4 tributes. Now the problem there were: a) In order to pull off the hidden plan of blowing up the arena, they had to make it believable that they were trying to electrocute the other tributes, which brings us to b) Peeta’s leg, while he had been able to keep up with all the running they already had to do, it really had the potential to hinder his speed and mobility, so that was a plausible pretext to hold him back, and send Katniss and Johanna to the beach. That said, there’s another reason more devious to keep P back, and it’s all about keeping Katniss in the group. If she and Peeta had been allowed to go to the beach, there was no guarantee they’d come back; if they stayed to Beetee by the tree, they could also bolt after the lighting stroke. Then we have one third reason to keep them apart, and here is all personal conjecture, but knowing Everlark, I don’t see them doing any different, I think both Johanna and Finnick had official duties inside the plan: Finnick was Peeta’s protector and keeper (despite everyone else actual being human shields) and Johanna’s was to cut Katniss’ tracker out of her arm... now, you tell me Peeta wouldn’t have killed Johanna (or anyone for that matter) if he saw her stick a knife into K’s arm, he would’ve bludgeoned both Jo and Finn to protect Katniss, because he would have seen it as an attack on K’s life... so, I think those were the reasons why it was easier to separate them then.

Haymitch saying he couldn’t believe she took her eyes off him, I think was more because she didn’t insist more on staying with Peeta. But, Haymitch said many thing to Katniss that were unfair and out of her power, and this is one of those.

2)Katniss did questioned others sacrificing themselves for Peeta, but she had no way to figure out what was going on, and half the time she was either running away from a threat, fighting a threat off, too injured, caring for someone else’s injuries, or simply too tired to give it more thought... as you said, they were in the Arena only 3 days, but those were some intense days. The only person she trusted enough to discuss it was Peeta himself, and they were never alone long enough to talk about it either. I doubt either of them would have guessed what was going on if they had the chance to ponder upon it. Again, my own conjectures on this matter.

3) I believe keeping the break out plan a secret from them was a huge disservice to both of them. I think Peeta would’ve advocated for it, and cajole Katniss into complying with the plan. The problem, I think, would’ve been Katniss’ ability to keep a straight face and not give it away on the first hour of the games. But I do think they should have been informed, at least partially, if what was going on, so they could’ve been prepared... I don’t know why they kept them in the dark 😕

A Few things I love about this scene  and things I don’t get.. 

1. Finnick Johanna and Beetee know that if Katniss and Peeta  do something alone  without them near by they are long gone…  

2. This is the night they are gonna be broken out the arena….

3. The see you at mightnight piece is sweet but  this is literally the last time we see sane peeta.. after that hes a whole new person… which breaks my heart literally. 

Now things I don’t get… 

Why couldn’t peeta go be a guard for Johanna and Katniss? 

I get it the goal was to get Katniss out for sure… but why did they separte them? ( Haymitch said in Mockingjay I cannot beileve you let him out of your sight)

Now there was  8 Victor Tributes left on the last day.. (Hard to beileve that it was like the games lasted 3 days and that Peeta Literally almost died every single one of thoese days.. and about 5 times ) . During this time Mags Morphlings  Gave there life for peeta… and He is saved so many times… Now the thing I don’t get… 

Why didn’t Katniss really question them… ( like she is suspicious)  But she   literally shakes it off everytime.? 

The break out plan… Do you think Katniss and Peeta should have known a little bit of the plan? Or the way it was…
