I felt like G13 blowing up multiple times on a Tech check figuring out my charging situation for tonight. I packed last minute for 1 night, so I packed way lighter than I normally do and ended up forgetting to grab any chargers other than one USB C cable with a lightning dongle attached and a single USB C charging block. But I was pretty sure there were more chargers in my bag somewhere already so I’d be fine.
First I looked around for outlets. I’d need to plug in my watch, a fan, and my phone at a minimum, and preferably also my earbuds, but those would last until I got home anyway.
The two outlets I could see were next to the bed and by the foot of the bed. The one by the bed had a lamp plugged in, leaving only one spot and the one by the foot had no table nearby.
Then I started going through my backpack looking for additional chargers. First, I found a double USB C charger. This was a big win because now all I needed was a cable for each thing and they could all charge. Plugged into it was a Lightning cable. Now I could charge my earbuds too, since they’re the only thing I had using Lightning. I dug through some more and found an Apple Watch charger, but it was USB A. However, I knew I would be able to pull it off now, because not having a watch charger was the most likely way I expected to fail.
I started digging and couldn’t find anything to help until I finally remembered: in the other bag I brought, when I was packing my sheets, there was a bag with a wireless mouse at the bottom, and that would have a USB A to C adapter. I pulled it out and not only did it have one, but it was actually the one where I’d dumped in all the extra USB A to C adapters, so I had so many.
Then came the challenge of making the cords work. Ideally, I wanted the lamp, my phone, and the fan all at the head of the bed, and the others I didn’t care where they were. So I plugged those in at the door with the double USB C brick. I noticed the decoration hanging above the outlet had a little pocket in it that may or may not have been intended to hold something light and decorative. I gave it a little tug to make sure it could hold a little weight, and it made a nice little place to stow my charging watch and earbuds.
Then came the front of the bed, which was easy save for needing a third outlet. But then I remembered I’d seen something in my backpack: a book light! So I unplugged the lamp and clamped the book light to the table. And with that, I had successfully set up charging for all of my things.
And then after I found a pocket just completely full of USB C and USB A bricks.
#i don’t know why‚ i just feel like sharing long-winded explanations of mundane things lately#it’s just the mood i’m in#never stop blowing up

Apple's Move to USB-C is Apparently Really Popular with Consumers
It took some time, but Apple's new iPhone 15 series phones finally ditched the company's own lightning port for the more standardized USB-C hardware format, joining the likes of the MacBook and iPad lines, not to mention countless other Android phones all over the market. With that said, it looks like Apple's latest move has been popular among consumers, especially folks who like to do a bit of reading online. More specifically, data from the folks over at mobiles.co.uk shows that the buzz surrounding Apple's new USB-C-equipped smartphones is nothing to scoff at - more than a hundred thousand news posts about the iPhone 15's new hardware feature have gone live, proving that the move to a more standard hardware connectivity solution - no matter how late - is favourable on Apple's behalf, at least in terms of public awareness and marketing reach. While USB-C ranks as the top dog in mobiles.co.uk's data chart, second place goes to Dynamic Island. The feature was introduced with the iPhone 14 series, and marks Apple's move from its rather divisive notch design, to a more mainstream camera cutout display style also seen on competing Android brands. These aren't the only pre-existing smartphone trends that Apple has adopted though, as the incorporation of AOD (always-on display) on the iPhone 14 series also proved popular, ranking in third place in terms of news posts. Given this new information, it's quite possible that Apple is feeling the building pressure from the competition. While iPhones continue to reign among the world's top-selling smartphones, it's no secret that they're somewhat behind in other hardware and software aspects compared to a multitude of Android phones, especially when it comes to battery technology and camera hardware. Still, the popularity of Apple's flagship handsets is something impressive in itself, amounting to huge sales numbers every year. The iPhone 15 series features four different models, which include the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus, and iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. The Pro models come with new Titanium builds, as well as the new USB-C ports. The phones also feature the new A17 Pro chipset from Apple, which features some promising performance upgrades including ray tracing technology for gaming. Apple even went so far as to announce a handful of console ports for the iPhone 15 Pro series, which include the Resident Evil 4 Remake, as well as Resident Evil Village. Meanwhile, the "regular" iPhone 15 and 15 Plus count as the more wallet-friendly models in Apple's 2023 lineup. They do adapt some newer hardware, and in addition to USB-C the iPhone 15 also features the Dynamic Island camera cutout, as well as an upgraded 48MP main camera sensor, a considerable improvement over the 12MP lens that Apple has used for so long in previous iPhone models. One caveat however is that the base models run on last year's A16 Bionic chip, instead of the A17 Pro as with the Pro models. With all that said, USB-C is a step in the right direction for Apple, and we can only hope that the company adopts more competitive hardware on its future handsets. Buyers can grab the new iPhone 15 series starting at £799 for the base model iPhone 15, and £999 for the iPhone 15 Pro. Read the full article

My sister has an EV. I've gone with her to the charging station many times, and funny thing about those Tesla charging stations?
They only charge Tesla vehicles.
Tesla charging stations are to electric vehicles, as Apple lightning cables are to cellphones in a world where literally every other brand is on USB-C.
Except that's not a perfect comparison. In fact it would be more like when samsung tried to develop a new charger between micro USB and USB-C and came up with the Micro USB 3.0. Because fun thing about that cord and charging port? It could still use the old version. Micro USB cables still worked to charge Micro USB 3.0 devices as was the intent of the design.
So often when you go to a charging station, Electrify America for example, you will see a nearly empty bank of Tesla chargers because only Tesla vehicles have the hardware to use their chargers. And then you'll see a bank of the same amount of charging stations for literally every other make and model of electric vehicle. Sometimes there's a line as well. And rarely you'll see Tesla's there as well because they have adapters for both car plugs.
I explain all of this to say. Consumers aren't the ones being hurt by this. Innocent non Tesla owning people are not losing access to infrastructure anymore than they would have by coming to charge their cars on a busy day. No one is being deprived of use of their property because of this. And even if they were, I have no sympathy for anyone who has bought a Tesla in the last 2 decades since Elon bought a majority share position in the company and took over. He's was a garbage human being then as he still is now, and supporting him has always been a bad look in my book.
Fuck Tesla. Let it burn.

Holding up snarky signs doesn't seem to be working.
For me, it isn't about whether this action is appropriate or not. It's about how this kind of action is inevitable.
I'm going to let Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. explain in a quote no one seems to post during his annual holiday.
"It is not enough for me to stand before you tonight and condemn riots. It would be morally irresponsible for me to do that without, at the same time, condemning the contingent, intolerable conditions that exist in our society. These conditions are the things that cause individuals to feel that they have no other alternative than to engage in violent rebellions to get attention. And I must say tonight that a riot is the language of the unheard. And what is it America has failed to hear?"
If you only speak up about a supercharger catching fire and ignore the unheard, you are prioritizing a thing over people.

USB-C, Magsafe, Lightning, USB-A, miniplug, VGA, IEEE1394/FireWire, SD card reader, and I think a Kensington cable port.
I have a mini DV camcorder and I need to cover my videos so I need to find my Firewire cable and an adapter to USB-C... I should have cabling for most of these but I also have ADHD and can't tell you which tub they are in.

#not bad considering I've only had a MacBook for a couple of years#apple and their proprietary tech#i hate them#blame Apple and the Macbook Air because we don't have enough ports#if it was up to them they wouldn't have USB-C just some other first party bullshit#also we're already friends i am just showing off

Why You Need a Multi USB Cable | Travel Hacks
youtube
Best Multi Cable for All Your USB Cable Needs
In the past, having multiple charging devices on the plane was a challenge. Most of the time having the right cable was hit or miss. For instance, I had the both USB C-ending cable whereas the aircraft only had a USB output. That’s where the need for a multi cable comes into play.
Unlike a traditional cable, a multi-USB Cable comes with everything you require, such as USB C, USB, or even lightning cable for some Apple devices. After searching for a while, I ended up buying one called NOHON 4 In 1 Multi USB Cable.
This is not a paid or affiliated review – there are many other cables available on Amazon and the like. The one I bought costs only $7 to $10. It has an adapter that lets you convert from USB C to USB and USB C to Lightning cable. If you don’t need a certain type, you can even completely detach it and put it away.
For example, I don’t own any Apple products, so I am contemplating removing the Lightning converter, as this is unnecessary for me. It is 4 feet long with nylon braided material and seems to be durable enough.
As a bonus, the NOHON 4 In 1 Multi USB Cable also supports high speed charging and high-speed data transfers. These features will come in handy when traveling.
A multi cable will make life a little more worry free when you are traveling, as there many other things you constantly need to worry about when you’re on the move. I have a video review of this which you can view by clicking the link below:

In South Africa, it arrived in late 2023, appealing to professionals and enthusiasts needing advanced tech. SSS Cellular’s stock reflects its role as a flagship device in a market valuing durability and innovation.
Technical Specifications and Pricing
The iPhone 15 Pro features a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display (2556x1179 resolution), A17 Pro chip (6-core CPU, 6-core GPU), and 8GB RAM, with storage options of 128GB-1TB. It includes a titanium frame, USB-C port, and a triple-camera system (48MP main, 12MP ultra-wide, 12MP telephoto). Weighing 187g, it’s priced at R24,999-R29,999 on SSS Cellular, varying by storage, with iOS 17 pre-installed.
Practical Applications

In South Africa, where mobile data and reliability are key, its R24,999-R29,999 cost via SSS Cellular offers durability (titanium build) and performance, ideal for work, creativity, and communication amid frequent power challenges.
Historical Context: Tech Evolution in South Africa
The 20W USB-C adapter debuted in 2020, gaining traction in South Africa by 2021 as USB-C iPhones proliferated, addressing fast-charging needs. The iPhone 15 Pro, launched in 2023, built on Apple’s Pro series, arriving locally late that year to meet demand for premium devices. SSS Cellular’s online availability reflects a shift toward efficient, high-performance tech in a digitally reliant nation.
Practical Applications: Real-World Scenarios
In a Durban office, the 20W adapter charges an iPhone 15 Pro—50% in 30 minutes powers a day of calls and apps. In a Pretoria studio, the iPhone 15 Pro’s camera captures high-res video—its A17 chip edits on-site, saving time. South African examples—from quick charges to pro-grade tasks—showcase SSS Cellular’s offerings enhancing daily life with reliable power and performance.
Charger Adapter vs. iPhone 15 Pro: Power vs. Platform
The 20W adapter (R399-R499, 60g) charges fast—USB-C PD, 30-minute boost—for efficiency; it’s affordable, universal, and compact. The iPhone 15 Pro (R24,999-R29,999, 187g) delivers power—A17 Pro, 48MP camera—for advanced use; it’s premium, specialized, and robust. Both from SSS Cellular pair seamlessly—adapter fuels, iPhone performs—optimizing South African tech needs.
Implementation and Care
The 20W adapter requires a USB-C cable—plug into a stable outlet, avoid overloading; store dry, away from heat. The iPhone 15 Pro needs regular updates (iOS), a protective case, and USB-C charging—clean ports, avoid overcharging. Use the adapter for quick boosts, the iPhone for heavy tasks—both are sourced online, ensuring compatibility and longevity in South Africa.
Conclusion: Integrated Mobile Solutions
The 20W charger adapter and iPhone 15 Pro from SSS Cellular provide South Africans with essential tech—R399-R499 for charging, R24,999-R29,999 for performance. Why Did the EU (and UK) Mandate USB-C?
The European Union introduced this law primarily for three reasons:
Reducing Electronic Waste (E-Waste) – By standardizing chargers, consumers wouldn’t need to buy a new charger for every device. This prevents millions of old chargers from ending up in landfills.
Consumer Convenience – A single charging standard means people don’t have to carry multiple cables and adapters for different devices.
Market Competition – Apple’s proprietary Lightning cable gave them control over accessories and forced consumers into their ecosystem. The law aims to break this kind of monopolistic control and allow more competition in the accessory market.
Positives of the Switch to USB-C
Universal Compatibility – iPhones now use the same cable as most Android phones, iPads, laptops, and other devices.
Faster Data Transfer and Charging – USB-C generally allows for higher power delivery and faster data speeds compared to Lightning.
Less E-Waste – Since USB-C is already widespread, fewer cables will be discarded.
More Accessory Choices – Third-party manufacturers no longer have to rely on Apple’s expensive MFi (Made for iPhone) licensing to make compatible cables.
Negatives of the Switch to USB-C
Short-Term Consumer Cost – People with existing Lightning accessories (chargers, docks, headphones) now have to replace them or buy adapters.
Potential for Confusion – Not all USB-C cables are equal. Some support fast charging and data transfer, while others do not, leading to possible frustration.
Loss of Apple’s Ecosystem Control – While good for consumers, this could mean fewer Apple-certified accessories with guaranteed quality.
Resistance to Government Regulation – Some tech companies, including Apple, argue that governments forcing a standard could slow innovation.
Apple’s Response
Apple was resistant to this change but ultimately complied, starting with the iPhone 15 lineup in 2023. They argued that forcing a universal standard could stifle innovation, but in reality, USB-C is already widely adopted.

The EU wants a phone that isn't immediately obsolete and incompatible with other standards so that people are less likely to chuck it or their phone accessories in the e-waste bin every two years, and so consumers have a choice in the technology they use so that one company doesn't monopolize everything about your phone. This is not a difficult concept to grasp.
Lightning ports mean unnecessary cables, adapters or chargers if you already have USB-C devices and accessories.
User-replaceable batteries allow you to extend the life of a device without taking it to a shop for an expensive repair.
Headphone jacks allow you to use a wide variety of audio devices reliably, something Bluetooth isn't great at.
SD card support allows you to expand your storage without paying an up-front premium to the device maker if you want to future-proof against changing storage needs.
Now, I doubt the EU will regulate on all of these things, and there are certainly trade-offs you make for some of them, but mischaracterizing the utility and motivation for them only makes you look like a fanboy.
ok this looks ultra mega based, are you kidding me? can you imagine the bullshit i could get up to with this bad boy? fuck yes i want ten
