Jeez a lot of customers need to have lessons in general manners. Adults. Not children. These offenses are repeatedly made by grown adults who are old enough to be my parents, generally 40+.

▪︎If you need to speak to an employee, but that employee is currently on the store phone, unless it is a life-threatening emergency, WAIT for that employee to finish the phone call. I can't tell you how many times I've been on the phone with a customer and an in-store customer thinks whatever they want is more important and starts talking to me while I'm on the phone. I simply ignore them. Be rude, I'll be rude back idgaf.

▪︎If you need to ask an employee something, greet them first so the employee knows that you're talking to them and aren't just on the phone or something. And don't yell your question from across the room. Simply say "excuse me" or "Hi, could you help me please?" Or something similar and when you do that....

▪︎Be polite. Say please and thank you and phrase your requests in the form of a question rather than a demand. Basic kindergarten manners here.

▪︎If you want something from an employee, such as an extra bag or a gift card that the employee may have to retrieve for you, communicate that you want the bag/card/etc. Don't just stand and stare at them. Employees cannot read your mind and are contractually obligated to help you, but will not be able to do so if you don't communicate your needs.

▪︎Keep your opinions about an employee's (and honestly every stranger's) physical appearance to yourself? I shouldn't even have to say this wtf. If you don't like the way someone has dyed their hair or if they have acne or bad makeup, shut the fuck up about it.

▪︎Do not stand in the middle of the aisle and block the entire aisle for customers and employees both, especially not the main aisle. And if you space out and accidentally block the aisle and someone says "excuse me" to try to get past, LISTEN and MOVE.

•If you change your mind on an item in your cart and you don't remember or don't feel like putting it back where it goes, give it to the cashier to put in go-backs. Don't shove it on some random shelf.

•If you knock something over and break or spill it, notify an employee so they can clean it up so no one gets hurt. Retail chains generally don't have "you break it, you buy it" rules.

▪︎The vast majority of employees actually have extremely little control over the store. Problems with inventory, online orders, return policies, etc are not caused by anyone you will ever see working on the sales floor of a retail store. These problems are caused by outside forces, such as corporate or third-party delivery services. Ask an employee for the number of corporate to give your complaint to them if you absolutely must voice your complaints.

▪︎If you ask one employee a question and you receive an answer you don't like, suck it up and move on. Asking a different employee will not get you a different answer, it will just piss the employees off and now you're DEFINITELY not getting whatever it was you wanted.

▪︎Stay the fuck out of employees only areas? Shouldn't have to say this one.

▪︎If you arrive at a store before it opens, stay in your car and wait until the doors are opened. Or go somewhere else until opening time. And do NOT try to force open the doors yourself.

▪︎If you're in a store and it is near closing time, most stores make warning announcements 20-30 minutes before closing time. Listen and follow those announcements. The only reason you should be in a store after closing is if you got in line before closing time and you need to wait for the people in front of you to be rung up.

Politeness in Mando’a

Different languages have different politeness strategies. Polite expressions like “please” and “thank you” are very idiosyncratic. You have to learn the correct way to use them in a particular language, because their usage relies on cultural context, not semantic meaning.

I headcanon that Mando’a generally uses these expressions less than Basic does. In Mando’a, you say gedet’ye, ba’gedet’ye, vor entye, etc. when you mean it, not as filler words—they’re rarer, but more empathetic than their Basic counterparts. So mandos can come off as brusque/impolite when they speak Basic; aruetiise as overly conscientious/groveling/unctuous when they speak Mando’a. Can you tell I just love some delicious culture clash?

Here are some of my headcanons about some mando expressions:

gedet’ye

please, I beg you, would you be so kind (polite request—rarer and more empathetic than English “please”)

thank you, please (polite acknowledgment)

yes please, yes thank you, much obliged (in response to questions)

excuse me, pardon

pardon, say again, come again (a request to repeat information—informal, not military)

English doesn’t have a compact expression between “please” and “I beg you”, but that’s the space I headcanon gedet’ye occupies. It’s more empathetic than “please”, but not quite so groveling as “I beg you”. Something like “would you be so kind”, perhaps?

I’m a fan of the idea that vor entye—especially the full version—is taken quite literally. So aruetiise, who have only learned a few polite phrases and not their contexts, can and will go around putting themselves in debt to every jack and jones, much to the consternation and humour of mandos. Natives use either the shortened form vor’e (for informal expressions of gratitude) or gedet’ye (in contexts where English could use either thank you or please: would you like more shig? yes, please/thank you). Gedet’ye is a polite request, but when someone fulfills your request (or teacup) before you can voice it, you can also use gedet’ye to acknowledge the action posthumously—like English thanks! If vor entye/vor’e is too much, use gedet’ye instead.

In situations where you’d ask for someone’s attention with “excuse me” or ask them to make way with the same, gedet’ye also works.

When you ask someone to repeat what they just said, English uses “sorry, I didn’t catch that” (implication: please repeat it). Mando’a uses “gedet’ye” (implication: the thing I’m asking for is what you just said).

If you’re confused by some of these senses, consider that the expectation is that the first person asks for something/says “gedet’ye” and the second person replies with “ba’gedet’ye”. Gedet’ye is a polite request, so ba’gedet’ye can be understood as granting the request. The sarcasm comes from the fact that nobody asked. You’re essentially commenting aloud on somebody forgetting their manners. “You’re welcome” (implication: not that you asked), or “fine, be that way” (implication: it’s actually not fine but I’ll let it slide for now).

When answering a phone or a comm, the call itself is understood as a request to answer. In this context, ba’gedet’ye can be understood as “please, go ahead (and talk)”. The ironic what? is somewhat like the ironic use of English hello, an ironic expression of puzzlement. Sort of “please, go ahead… (and explain to me what you were just thinking)”.

The last sense, issuing a polite command, is somewhat formal in tone. In practice it’s a nice way to tell someone that your job requires you to be polite, but you better do what you’re told or you won't like the consequences. Again, the implication is that you’re not really asking, but replying to an implied request for permission even if no such thing was actually asked.

Hi! I see you're a radblr and a lesbian, which is great, because I'm trying to understand something but I feel like I'm biased (I'm hetero) and can't see the lesbian perspective properly. So. Let's forget about personality (which is the most important thing for sure) for a second and let's talk about physical attraction only. Lesbians like women. Lesbians do not like men. So it's reasonable to assume they are attracted to the female body characteristics which differ from the male body (like breasts, large hips, female genitals, etc) just like hetero men are. Ideally, the more feminine the trait, the more attractive it should be, right?

So, why are many lesbians attracted to the 'butch' type? From my (biased) perspective, butches are like tomboys, so they seem to want to appear less traditionally feminine (example: short hair - not a male characteristic per se, but it is associated to men because most men have short hair; we could discuss this theoretically, but the social bias is undeniable and no one can escape it). Butches share many characteristics (like style, mannerism, etc) with men, to which lesbians should not attracted. But this is disproven by evidence, since many lesbians like butches! Help. I'm terribly confused.

Hi there, thanks for the question! You mentioned that you understand that lesbians are attracted to female body characteristics (such as breasts, wider hips, female genitals.) A woman has these female characteristics regardless if they’re butch or femme. Butch women may be masculine on the outside appearance or through personality, but at the end of the day they have female sex traits that those who are only attracted to males would not find attractive in any capacity. Butches may try to “hide” these bodily female characteristics, but when in a romantic or sexual relationship with someone you’re going to see what their body actually looks like. Short answer is: butches are females, men are males. It’s entirely possible to be attracted to masculinity but find male sex traits (such as no breasts, deep voice, beards, or penis) revolting or not attractive. Straight women who are attracted to feminine men are not homoSEXuals because of this, just as a lesbian isn’t heteroSEXual for liking butches. Same stuff for masculine gay men who attracted to feminine gay men.

You said “Ideally the more feminine the trait, the more attractive it should be?” which I disagree with. Femininity and female have no correlation at its core, as one is of a biological basis and the other is of a societal basis (though they tend to align, I believe masculinity is the natural state of all people anyways and girls are socialized to be very feminine.) ‘The more female a trait, the more attractive it should be to a lesbian’ is a better phrase, but femaleness comes in all sorts of appearance so it doesn’t really indicate anything or make much sense. You brought up short hair as an example of the similarities between men & butches, which i will agree on, but once again, this doesn’t erase the simple biological difference between a man and a butch. I actually happen to be a butch in a relationship with a femme, so i’m going to offer both my viewpoint, and hers:

As a butch who’s generally only attracted to femmes, I used to not be attracted to masculine women or butches. I still am not for the most part. It took a lot of unpacking internalized homophobia & heteronormative social standards for me to understand why. Everyone is raised to believe that the masculine belongs with the feminine as a child, and gay children are not exceptions to this. I think it’s been ingrained in me since a child that the type of person I should be attracted to is a feminine person. I’ve known since childhood that I was not feminine in the way my female peers were, as I’ve always been pretty masculine. When in elementary and early middle school, the boys I “liked” have all turned out to be feminine gay men (lol.) I never really was attracted to these boys of course, but I was attracted to femininity in females and it was the best I thought I could get. I thought that since I had to be with a boy, I would logically just be with a feminine one. When I understood that being lesbian was an option, I never looked back. It’s hard for me to unpack that me being attracted to a masculine woman isn’t me being attracted to a man, and I know this subconsciously is why I say i’m not attracted to butches much at all. I could possibly be attracted to a butch, but i think socialization has its claws gripped into me (and also just a mix of the fact that femininity is my personal preference in a lady.)

I asked my femme girlfriend her thoughts on this, and this is a summarized version of what she had to say (she thought I was asking about myself):

“[A butch] may be mistaken for a man, or be read as a man at first glance, but when you take a closer look it’s undeniable that you’re a woman. Your eyes are beautiful and feminine, you have a gorgeous feminine body & chest. Your hands are soft, small, & delicate (and no i’m not trying to poke fun at your insecurity i’m being serious) When you smile it’s even more obvious that you’re a woman. I am attracted to your masculinity of course, I love that you have muscles, the way you dress, [redacted personal hobbies], your short hair, how in control/dominant you are. I also love your curves, your soft voice, and smooth skin. & you don’t have the personality of a man, you just pick up hobbies and mannerisms most women are afraid will make them appear “manly.” You actually convinced me to start doing [redacted personal hobby] that i never even considered before because I thought of it as something that boys or men do and now I really enjoy it.”

Who is Detective Noel?

So. There was a new character introduced, right? John and Arthur now have three whole allies. I think that's too many. You know? They can't all be trustworthy.

Now, this new guy, detective Noel. There's something suspicious about him. How did he and Oscar manage to take down the butcher so easily? We know from the last episode that the butcher is not entirely human. So how did two normal people manage to beat him?

Beyond that, there's something about Noel that is interesting. Some of his mannerisms and turns of phrase seem... familiar.

Surely I'm not the only person who heard this and thought "wait, that sounds like Kayne!"

I do acknowledge that it could be a coincidence. All the characters are voiced by the same guy, after all, so they would sound like each other occasionally.

But I'm going to explain why I think it isn't a coincidence, because, that's right folks,

Noel is Kayne in disguise.

Even if the delivery was just a fluke, look at the line itself. "I'm golden." The association here is fairly easy to see. gold=yellow, it's a king in yellow joke. Something Kayne is well known for. (lemonhead, canary in a coal mine, etc.) It also calls back to the "nothing gold can stay" poetry thing from earlier in the season. And you know what else? That's not something a person would say. "I'm golden" is a fairly rare expression to begin with, and is generally used to talk about an exceptionally good mood or situation. Not the kind of thing one would say if they were having an average day, let alone if they were actively dealing with a dangerous serial killer. You see what I'm saying here? Noel would not have said that if it wasn't for a reason.

Another thing I've noticed (and this point is considerably weaker, but bear with me here) is that a lot of Noel's other lines seem like the kind of thing Kayne would say.

You can't tell me bringing up dead wives and partners and being overly joking about it isn't exactly the kind of thing Kayne would do to fuck with Arthur.

And another thing that takes place in that conversation: Noel says that they have a mutual friend.

"If Noel is Kayne", you're saying, "then who do you claim this mutual friend is?"

Scratch. It's Scratch.

It's not at all out of the question that Kayne would know Scratch, considering Scratch's main goal is creating chaos and inflicting nightmares, and Kayne's main pastime is creating chaos and being all up in everybody else's business. And I don't really have a smooth transition to my next point but

Noel really wants to borrow a lighter from Arthur. This is significant, you might notice, because that's The Lighter. The transcript refers to it as 'his lighter' and not 'a lighter' because that is The Lighter.

We know that the lighter has some sort of supernatural significance, and that alone would be motivation enough for Kayne to want to see it. But there's something else that supports this even more. I don't have a screenshot of that particular episode, but back in the Dreamlands, when Kayne listed all of the stuff that Arthur had with him, the lighter wasn't on that list. Kayne, for whatever reason, either didn't know or was pretending not to know that Arthur had the lighter. I think that he's since found out about it and wants to get a look at the thing in person.

Another thing, real quick. They are in New York. According to John, Kayne wanted him to get Arthur to New York. Now that he's there, there's a strong likelihood of Kayne getting involved. In a way that Arthur wouldn't realize. Such as disguising himself as someone else.

Anyway, I have one last point here, and it's, like I mentioned at the beginning, that he was able to take down the butcher. We know the butcher isn't human. Why is it that he was so easily taken down by two seemingly normal guys?

Because one of those guys was actually Kayne. We still don't know who or what Kayne is, but we do know that he's incredibly powerful, likely more so than the butcher. There is, also, the butcher's reaction.

He's surprised. Noel sneaks up on him, and he's surprised. And then, the butcher gets angry. We've seen what he's like. And screaming "I'll kill you!" Is very much not his style- unless he's completely lost control of the situation, something we've never seen him do- until now, when he's confronted by something much more powerful.

TL:DR, Noel is Kayne.

Monique is very vain, so any time she gets a chance to look at herself or admire herself, she takes it. Monique makes it a point not to wear the same purse/handbag two days in a row. Another defining characteristic about her would be the color pink being incorporated into every single aspect of her life in almost a childish manner.

Monique’s early childhood was a rough start for her. Initially, they struggled, living in the projects, surviving off of food stamps and a necessity-only lifestyle. Despite that, Michael always made sure Monique never wanted for anything. So, the transition from the projects to their penthouse in Brooklyn in her late adolescent years was somewhat smooth for her.

Monique’s earliest memory would be opening presents on Christmas at Sakari’s house, where she celebrated with both Sakari and Josiah’s family. Her father had just gifted her a Barbie DreamHouse, which sparked up her love for the doll/franchise.

Monique has been in school her entire life up until now, the highest point she reached being her B.S in Business and B.A Communication.

The only aspect Monique enjoyed about school was meeting up with her friends, or hanging out with them afterwards. She viewed school as mandatory and experienced a lot of pressure from her father to be a straight A/B+ student throughout her years in school.

Being in school and finding out her best friend had gotten shot, and was in critical condition at the time.

The most evil thing a human being could do is maliciously harm the harmless.

Monique is biased & prejudice against men, in general.

Monique absolutely refuses to do anything that 100% comprises her self-respect or whatever she considers beneath her. She holds herself to a certain standard and any time that standard or boundary is pushed, she’s quick to attack the situation or retreat.

Monique would die for her father, only.

Monique is very standoffish and keeps everyone at a distance but still is polite/kind and considers herself approachable. Her treatment of them changes depending on how she perceives them, if they are friends or closer, or if she wants to get to know them romantically/financially.

Who is the most important person in your life, and why?

The most important person in Monique’s life is her father because time after time again, he’s proven to be the most genuine, solid and stable person in her life.

Who is the person you respect the most, and why?

Monique respects her father the most, because of all the things he has risked and done for her to be where she’s at today. He could’ve just given up after his wife/her mother passed and stayed stagnant, and hindered her, but he’s put everything on the line to make sure she had what she wanted at all times and nothing/no one could supersede that.

The second time was with an on and off again situationship that ended up becoming more serious than she had originally intended it to be. She realized she was in love as she broke things off with him, due to internal issues. Lastly, Monique was in love with her ex-boyfriend of nine months, which also started off as harmless but eventually turned into something deeper. However, towards the end of the relationship, fights broke out that revealed issues with their relationship, resulting in her ending things with him.

Monique looks for a provider, someone who's consistent, with a charming personality. Someone who shares similar traits to her father, someone who will defend her blindly whenever need be, someone who will cherish, reassure her, and exercise patience with her and not give up on her. Sakari’s childhood was good, fun and she learned a lot. Although there was a lot going on around her both of her parents made sure she and her siblings had a good childhood. She was kept active a lot, her siblings were put in many different programs, and got to find the interest. They were never just put in one box, and their mother made sure they were never just at home, bored.

For some weird reason there is a person going around in every relevant video and webpage saying that Greek isn’t a rich language because it has only one word for all types of teachers. So, in short that it doesn’t have words for tutor, professor and so on. I was so confused by his argument and his reasoning, let alone by his passion which drives him to write this literally everywhere, but also because… there is not only one word for all types of teachers! Lately I am also learning some basic Latin and I stumbled onto the word paedagogus (teacher of Greek in the Roman world) so I thought of making a Greek vocabulary post about all teaching types / professions.

Vocabulary of teachers in Greek

Παιδαγωγός (peðaɣoɣós): Yep, the original. While in Latin it’s the Greek teacher, the παιδαγωγός is anyone, who is responsible of shaping a child’s mind and manners. Literally meaning guide of the children.

Εκπαιδευτικός (ekpeðephtikós): Also has a broad meaning, it is anyone working in education, but the word refers more strictly to working in this field rather than generally be a guide to young people like παιδαγωγός.

Δάσκαλος (ðáskalos): teacher / teacher in primary school. Sometimes attributes wisdom.

Διδάσκαλος (ðiðáskalos): older type of δάσκαλος. Emphasises on the respect shown and the wisdom of the teacher.

lucifer gender symbolism essay part 8: jarpad and mark p's acting styles

this is largely subjective, but there are some aspects of how different actors portray lucifer on spn that can read as androgynous or feminine. to me, it stands out the most in jared’s depiction of lucifer, because it’s such a clear contrast to how he plays sam: sam!lucifer keeps his eyebrows raised, uses a softer/smoother vocal tone, and walks/stands differently (whether this last is just because of a difference in confidence standing up straight while moving slowly and kind of model-preening, or because it actually reads as more feminine, is kind of a toss up imo).

obviously they have different feelings here so they are expressing different emotions, but there are ways to convey smugness and condescending concern etc that do not involve this eye-widening, eyebrow-lifting, mouth-softening facial posture...these were choices that were made to make the characterization stand out in contrast to sam's characterization. sam generally does keep his eyebrows down etc, even when he's happy or insincere or bitchy; he rarely if ever uses his face the way lucifer does in this scene. lucifer's expressions remind me more of bela or meg than of sam.

mark p’s depiction (again, i can only really speak to season 5) stands out somewhat in contrast to other characters as well, for many of the same reasons. to me, nick!lucifer comes across as being acted more androgynously than femininely (again, just my own subjective take), but androgyny is very notable on spn, when so many other male actors portray their characters as very, well, to steal sam’s line about dean, butch. nick!lucifer’s voice is soft and it isn’t pitched down; he walks and stands with a fluidity and grace that is in contrast to many of the gruffer characters; he uses some phrases/gestures that would look odd on dean or bobby or castiel or whoever else. i’m thinking the finger over the lips in swan song, the “‘t’s okay, i’m not mad” line, the wrist posture in multiple scenes, etc. these are clearly all deliberate affectations on the part of the character; they’re all human mannerisms; they just are deliberate affectations that give the impression that gender was not an attitude lucifer was especially interested in conveying. gabriel moves very differently from how nick!lucifer does, but there is a parallel there, i think, because gabriel also plays with posture/gesture/vocal tone/expression/turns of phrase in ways that don’t always fit with how spn does “””Correct””” masculinity. 

anyway, like i said, this is pretty subjective. but it is something people have been picking up on in the fandom for at least ten years. here’s a historical post (not mine but linked on my blog from long after it was originally posted because there have been Deactivations…) as an example of the supernatural fandom historical precedent.

Random Shinnok Rambles (X Reader)

A/N: Alright, back to Shinnokposting. My Tumblr is really just a Shinnok x Reader blog at heart lol. So, this is the closest I'll get to posting general headcanons. It's a part character analysis part x Reader I suppose? I just wanted to give more context on his thought process and personality in my stories. I don't really know what to call it hence the title. Might turn this into a series. Anyways, enjoy!

Speech/Mannerisms

Shinnok does not cuss. There's no way you're getting a “fuck” or “shit” out of this man. He finds cursing to be crass and a sign of low intelligence. However, he would use variations of “damn” and “hell” (ex: damned, damnation, hellspawn). But those aren't really cuss words depending on who you ask. The most vulgar words you can expect from Shinnok are “bastard” or “whore”, but those have stipulations for him to say it. For example, he'll only call someone a “bastard” if they were truly born from unwed parents. And even so, he phrases in a way of it being more like a statement than anything. (Ex: “Ah, the bastard of Argus.”) As for whore, he doesn't just call any woman that. They have to use their sexuality to some notable benefit like money, power, etc. 

He doesn't enjoy crassness in the bedroom either. He'll never utilize the words “pussy” or “cunt”. Those words are beneath him, so he sticks primarily to the anatomical words for genitals. But, I could see him on occasions when he's especially excited to use “cock” when referencing his penis. He'll also use euphemisms for your vagina such as “flower” or “petals” for your labia. He'll also probably just refer to your ass as “behind” or “rear”, as he dislikes the words “ass” and “butt”. Overall, don't expect a lot of dirty talk from this man. And even if he does, you'll probably need a thesaurus on hand for all the euphemisms.

So with his sentiments on speech, how much does this affect his darling? Umm, a lot. He won't be able to tolerate a s/o who curses or uses a lot of “low intelligence” words. Whether you're his lover or his pet he expects you to use your voice with dignity. If not… He can just beat it out of you. A pet/slave will learn to hold their tongue much quicker as from day one he's clear with his expectations. A willing lover on the other hand gets a few warnings -then it's straight to the dungeon with you until your speech improves.

Aside from speech he has high expectations with how you carry yourself. This differs depending on how he views your relationship. For pets, a submissive stride and downcast expression is expected at all times. Try not to take up too much space and look ashamed of yourself -it will please him despite his harsh comments. As for a lover, make sure that you walk around as though you own all the realms. He will notice if you skulk around rather than act confident, and it may just get you demoted from being his lover.

Also, people with shrimp-like posture beware -this man has no tolerance for hunchbacks. Get that spine straightened up or he'll straighten it for you. Seriously, he'll tell you to sit up maybe once then he'll manhandle you into a proper position. Have him do this too many times and he'll just start hitting you every time he catches you slouching. “Why insist on straining your back, mortal?” He'll say while “fixing” your posture.

Your “Relationship” with Him

I'm sorry but, unless Shinnok was purified or otherwise changed to become a better person -you're in for one hell of a toxic relationship. The main problem with him is his pride. There is no one like him, no one on his level of strength, intelligence, and ambition. (In his eyes at least.) So whether you're his pet or lover he'll always see you as a lesser being. It leads to a lot of problems should you accept the opportunity to willingly date him.

For example, you won't have any say over his plans for invasion or utilizing his demonic army. “Did you think an offering of my bed was an offering of being commander?” He says, face grim as he awaits your answer. You tell him no, but you can't help the thought that maybe as his partner you could aid him better in battle. Another point of contention would be the boundary pushing. Oh, you don't want to give him a blowjob? “My dearest (Y/N), you will get on your knees for me. Your Lord demands it.” You can certainly refuse, but is it worth the wrath of Shinnok?

Oddly enough, following through with his demands when he gets pushy like that will lower his respect for you. In his mind, all it takes is a few harsh words and threats of punishment to get you to obey? Those are the motivations of slaves -not of someone who is his equal. His treatment of you will change the more you submit. He gets more degrading with his speech, and he starts to doubt your abilities to help him conquer the realms. He may even stop you from going out on missions, telling you to simply stay in the cathedral with him. Do not accept this if you value your freedom. Once he traps you in his castle it's GG.

Honestly, it's very easy to slip from being his lover to his pet/slave. I would say 99.9% of the time that's what your relationship would devolve into anyways. His disdain towards others and his pride would warp any feelings of genuine affection into desires of ownership. The 0.1% chance is that you somehow become more powerful than him and flip the script on him -making Shinnok your pet instead. (Foreshadowing)

And you know what? You go through all of that and this fallen Elder God doesn't even say “I love you.” :( You'll never hear those words even after existing for thousands of years. It's the one lie he won't tell you -all due to his ego viewing love as a weakness. At the end of the day, mortals exist for his use and he does not have to offer anything in return.

So… Does Shinnok have kinks? Absolutely! (Even if he doesn't acknowledge them as such.) For one, he absolutely loves praise and worship in the bedroom. Tell him how grateful and honored you are to touch his body -he'll reward you with a hardy reminder as to why you're beneath him ❤️. Something indescribable dislodges itself from Shenhe’s chest, escapes in a barely perceptible sigh. When she looks back up, two pairs of eyes—gold, crimson—human, snake—are gazing intently at her.

“Swallowed it without even a sip of water! You must have taken a lot of bitter medicine before.” The snake draped around the doctor’s neck speaks in a sing-song voice, blinking owlishly up at her. Shenhe stares back at it—and although she is not good at reading humans, and snakes even less, she thinks it seems a bit surprised that she hasn’t yet looked away. When it lowers its head a moment later, suddenly timid, Shenhe feels an inexplicable bubble of satisfaction pressing against the bindings of her red ropes.

The corners of Baizhu’s serpent eyes turn down unhappily, and he frowns a little. “Changsheng. Manners.” And then, to her, in a gentler voice, "Here. Take this dried goji and haw; it’ll wash out any of the remaining bitterness.” He takes out a burlap satchel from one of the many little cabinets behind the front desk, and places it carefully in her still outstretched hands.

“Thank you… Mr. Baizhu— Doctor.” She can’t quite remember what the person before her had said before leaving, but… any parting phrase should suffice, right? None of the other adepti chide Master when she leaves their gatherings without any goodbyes, after all.

“No need; this is simply part of my job.” Shenhe must have said the right thing, because Baizhu is smiling graciously, waving away her thanks. Shenhe follows the crescent-moon curve of his pale lips all the way to the premature crow’s feet crinkling at the corners of his eyes, and wonders if the years have been unkind to him. As she studies Baizhu’s amber irises and vertical pupils, her thoughts wander to the tomes of adeptal transformation arts squirreled away in a corner of her master’s abode. She wonders how long it has taken him to reach this form, for it almost rivals her master’s in its beauty.

“Ah—on another note, I don’t recall filling a prescription for you in Bubu Pharmacy before? Is it your first time coming here?” Baizhu peers at her carefully over his oval glasses, eyes like yellow jade and Hulao amber. Shenhe holds his eye contact, and then—slowly, slowly, like the boiling of medicine and the flow of ages past, Baizhu’s gaze becomes something… vaster, something… boundless—and suddenly, Shenhe’s falling, rushing past the sights and sounds of Liyue as experienced by generation after generation of disciples and masters and masters and disciples and the ever-present white snake wound around their necks. And then, just as suddenly she is back in the pharmacy, and Baizhu’s eyes are simply circular drops of molten gold, and he has a concerned expression on his face.

“Shenhe, are you alright? Apologies if my question was too prying; I was merely curious.”

“No. I have never been here.”

“Well, in that case, welcome to Bubu Pharmacy. May your coming days be full of good health.”

A/N: these two are an absolutely slept on character pair thanks for opening my eyes. sorry that nothing consequential happens in this fic i wanted to squeeze in something about not listening to fate and baizhu looking up her name for connections to the adepti etc. but that didn't happen and ive been stuck on it for 2 weeks so i threw in the towel and said to myself that i'll put it in a more-inspired sequel. sorry if this is again confusing. if there's only 1 take home message you get from this I hope it's that baizhu is A SICKLY ASS MAN (please take care of yourself)

and ofc, if ooc let me know, i heart feedback etc etc. open call for shenhe and baizhu likers to give me their theses on either character because i need to Understand them and study them under a microscope
