Guys, when I tell you I've been OBSESSING over the interplay between the phrases 'his beloved son' and 'history is written by the victor' know that I mean it. And here's why.

For a long, long time, I've been trying to figure out what Tankhun's piece on the chessboard is. It just seemed to ridiculously simple to make him the rook and doesn't line up with the other long range attackers Korn placed on the board. Pete as bishop and Porsche as queen were both instrumental in Korn's plot against the minor family, hence their status as long range attackers. Tankhun won't even leave the house, which takes me back to that fucking dialogue, because it stuck in my over-analyzing craw.

Now, there's a few things in this exchange that jumped out to me, with the first being Tankhun's face when he uttered the words 'his beloved son'.

My horny on main masses of the KP fandom, does this look like the face of a son celebrating a victory with his father? Or is it the face of a man celebrating a victory against his father?

Well, I know I've got my opinion, so buckle in kids. It's about to be a ride.

The next thing worth pointing out is our jump to Korn's room, where if we follow the established pattern of green meaning danger, we're about to get ourselves some pretty heavy-handed messaging:

Now, a few things happened in this scene. The first is that Korn responded with 'History is only written by the victor'. He didn't say victors, as in the plural, he said VICTOR. I actually tried to include this photo with the words, but for some reason Tumblr decided to scoot them all to the right in this very unsightly way, but what's important is we have a visual of what's happening in the background.

You see the green Mr. Belvedere era lamp casting an eerie green glow on that bronze statuette of the violinist? You know who else played the violin? Kinn, in the Filmania version of KinnPorsche. Also pictured are the two fighting fish housed in completely unacceptable bowls, which is really going to play into the symbolism of where Korn FUCKED UP as I continue this long winded and convoluted rant.

Now something we've all been asking is why these bodyguards never wear bulletproof vests, why they're given all this training, all this great equipment, but no safety gear. Well, if Korn's staying true to his 'survival of the fittest' philosophy, the idea that competition breeds strength, then it makes sense he'd only want to keep the bodyguards most capable of survival around. And THIS is where we see Korn's first real weakness as a strategist.

The thing about 'survival of the fittest' is that people don't understand that it doesn't mean the survival of the biggest bads of the animal world. And if you doubt my word, may I present exhibit A of this desperate misunderstanding of that concept made manifest:

Like seriously? How do these dorks exist?

And the answer is because they adapted traits that would allow them to best REPLICATE in nature, not conquer it.

So with all this in mind, doesn't it stand out to you that Tankhun's bodyguards are really the only scarce few to survive? That Tankhun has a care for keeping them safe and alive? He clearly demonstrated this in his own way with Pete. There are subtle moments, subtle indications, that he's in fundamental disagreement with his father's philosophy.

Something else that stuck in my head was how quick and seamlessly he brought up his brothers with Chay, even going so far as to offer a visual aid, which most people don't do when they mention they have siblings. I think Tankhun knew about Kim and Chay, and that blowing up Kim's spot was a calculated move. And why was it calculated?

Because I think Tankhun knows that Korn wants Kim to take over the main family. That Korn has a deranged philosophy of pitting the family against one another to breed the strongest possible leaders for his empire, and that Kinn's life is in mortal fucking danger, for the crime of caring about his brothers enough to step up and do a job they didn't want to do. I think Tankhun knew Korn faked his death and was using it not only to draw out gun, but to get Kinn out of the way as well. Korn drove a wedge between him and Porsche to separate them, I think Korn was the one who told Kim where Chay was to keep him out of the final showdown, and I think he did that specifically to keep Kim from protecting Kinn, and Tankhun KNEW this.

But the thing about survival of the fittest is that while Korn might be a psychopath, his kids aren't. Korn's biggest weakness is he couldn't replicate himself in his sons, and that's why Tankhun sent him that text. He was telling his father, "You're the one who's weak. You're the one whose being is not worth replicating. Your lack of love is your weakness and I'm going to show you why."

Tankhun knows so much more than he lets on, and that's when it hit me. Tankhun isn't any piece at all. Tankhun is the invisible player on the other side of the board that Korn's REALLY playing against, but he's out to save all the pieces he captures.

Meanwhile, while the fish in separate bowls may be symbolic of a lull in the fighting, there's still two fish left, so Korn's giving them a break while he plots his next move. The trouble is, much like fish living in two separate tanks, raised to kill each other, his ideas are never going to breed, and that is where Korn's fundamental understanding of survival of the fittest being about strength rather than replication is going to fuck him over.

How would people feel about a KimChay and VegasPete central fic, where KimChay is more so of the focus but VegasPete still plays a healthy part of the story and there might be slight KinnPorsche if plot calls for it.

Starting from an undetermined amount of time after episode 14, probably just a couple of months later.

Where I have handpicked and thrown away certain parts of canon that I don't feel like exploring in this fic (such as the mom being alive. That might actually be the only thing I throw away but I haven't fully thought this out yet so we shall see)

It'll be a longer fic then I've ever written, and something that I would actually have to plan out like I've never planned out another fic.

I'd probably update every couple of chapters that I have written, and because of this updates would more then likely be slow because the semester is starting and honestly I just write slow.

The premise is this:

Porsche still carries the ring of the Minor Family and deals with the business side of things, while Pete deals with the more personal side of things, and is now the head of the minor family all but officially, as he helps Vegas recover, looks after Macau and keeps the bodyguards in order.

Vegas struggles with the weakness that comes after being injured, with his life without the weight of the expectations of his father. He truly cares for Pete, but letting himself fully put his trust in another goes against every cell of his body. Not helped by his distrust of the Major Family, and disbelief that Porsche will truly turn over the title of the head of the Minor family when the time comes.

Kim still battles with his dual responsibilities of being Wik and Kimhan since his brother has fully taken over as head of the Major Family, Kim has stepped up to help out his brother time to time when necessary. Everytime he visits the place that used to be his home, he can't help but keep an eye out for a certain doe-eyed youth who he hasn't heard a word from in all these months.

After narrowly avoiding running into Kim, Chay has managed to convince his brother to let him move into the Minor Family mansion (with the help of Pete's persuasion to Porsche that he'd watch out for the boys safety and that both Chay and Macau could use someone their own age around). His growing friendship with Macau notwithstanding, Chay finally starts to settle into his place.

But of course, things can only stay calm for so long before rival families start to get antsy and make their moves.

I'm on a KinnPorsche Big Lives (and gets nice things) kick. So I'm thinking of writing a fic that's basically this:

Big survived the warehouse, and was squirrelled away by Vegas for some plot against Kinn or another, and has been in a private hospital this whole time.

With all the drama, Vegas has pretty much forgotten about him.

Porsche is doing his best as the head of the minor family, going through the ledgers, and finds invoices for Big's room and the nurses in charge of his care and obviously gets curious why they're paying for private health care for an unnamed person-- after the ordeal with his mother, he's actually terrified that he's going to discover some other traumatic figure from his family's past -- but he can't just not know. What if he can help this person? What if they are like his mother; a prisoner, held by fear and obligation and lack of power?

So he takes a trusted guard (they only have trusted guards left, everyone else has been rooted out or run or was lost in Gun's uprising, but Porsche can't think about that too much), and they go to the private hospital, and finds Big, hooked up to a bunch of machines, drugged just enough to not fight, but mostly healed. There are burns, but he's in one piece.

Porsche loses it a little, quietly demands that anything not necessary to keep Big comfortable be immediately stopped, and finds the presence of mind to call Kinn and to arrange for Big to be moved to the medical wing at the major family compound.

When Kinn arrives, Porsche is sitting next to Big's bed, holding his hand, and apologizing over and over into the blankets at Big's hip, where he's pressing his head. Big is starting to come out of the fog of drugs, and looking at Porsche with clear confusion on his face.

Kinn wasn't as prepared as he thought he was to see Big again, and between seeing his friend (he's come to terms with the truth of that, recently, that some of his men are more than just bodyguards, and that the careful distance he's curated doesn't make it easier to lose them, so it's pointless to pretend otherwise) alive after months thinking him dead, and seeing his lover crying at his side, he can barely decipher his own feelings. But he takes a seat beside Porsche, siding an arm around him, offering comfort, pressing a kiss to his temple, and adds his hand to the tangle of Porsche and Big's, squeezing their fingers together.

When Big's eyes meet his, Kinn finds himself crying, overwhelmed with too many feelings.

Big cuts the silence with a croaky "Hey, Boss," and Kinn laughs, startled. Porsche sits up at the sound of Big's voice, his mouth open in surprise, and his loose grip on Big --and now Kinn's -- hands tightening.

"Porsche," Big adds with a slight, sleepy nod and a semi-pointed look at their hands.

Porsche grins, wide and genuine, and tells Big "Hey, we're taking you home," sounding excited and guilty all at once, and Kinn loves him so deeply that he can hardly contain it.

Big looks uncertain for a brief moment, but then he grins back, still a little wobbly with whatever they've been giving him, but relieved and honest, and most importantly there to see at all.

There's a lot to coordinate, a lot to come, but Kinn and Porsche are more than happy to put in the work for this, to have one less unsaid goodbye haunting them, one less unoffered apology. One more friend at their side.

1x07 Coda

It was silent as Kinn carefully put Porsche back together. Porsche relaxed into his touch as he wiped a wet towel over his stomach and pulled his pants back up. There was a moment where he left Porsche’s side but he was back in a heartbeat with Porsche’s shirt. He held it out and waited for Porsche to reach for it before helping him into it. Only once Porsche was fully dressed did he turn to himself. Porsche waited while he wiped futilely at the stain on his shirt and tucked himself away.

“Pete or Arm?” Kinn looked at him through the mirror.

“Sorry?”

“Was it Pete or Arm?” Porsche repeated. “One of them had to be keeping you updated. There’s no other way you just happened to be here at the right time.”

Kinn turned to look him in the eyes. “Was there something to keep me updated about?”

“Don’t,” Porsche warned. “You don’t get to call me a whore. Not again.” Kinn’s eyes softened and he came back to Porsche, his hands on his hips, and pushed him back against the mirror.

“I’m sorry,” he murmured. “I shouldn’t have said that.” He nipped gently at Porsche’s jaw. “I just don’t like seeing another man’s hands on you, never mind his lips.”

Porsche turned his head to meet Kinn’s lips. He opened his mouth and let Kinn lick his way inside. “I didn’t kiss him,” he admitted. “I was pushing him away when you came in.”

“I know. I just saw red.” He nuzzled into Porsche’s neck. “You’re all done here. Let’s go home.”

Home. “Yeah,” Porsche exhaled. “Okay.” Kinn pressed a kiss to the side of his neck and pulled back. He grabbed Porsche’s hand and led him out of the bathroom. Porsche pulled him to a stop while they were still alone. “You didn’t answer my question,” he reminded him.

Kinn rolled his eyes. “Pete.”

“Hmm,” Porsche mused. Kinn raised an eyebrow in question but Porsche just gestured for him to keep moving. Kinn did, letting the matter drop for now. He led him back through the party where Pete and Arm joined them and together they left the minor family’s house. Porsche felt Vegas’s eyes on him as they went but he ignored it. Ignored him. He knew Kinn had felt it too when his grip tightened almost uncomfortably. Porsche rubbed small circles on Kinn’s hand with his thumb and by the time they’d walked out the door, Kinn’s grip had relaxed.

The ride back was quiet; the only thing to disrupt it were quiet murmurs between Pete and Arm in the front seats but they weren’t loud enough for Porsche to pick up. Kinn had let go of his hand when they got in the car and halfway back Porsche reached out for him. Kinn let him, their hands resting easily between them.

“Are you alright?” Porsche asked when they reached Kinn’s room. He reached out for Kinn’s shirt and made quick work of the buttons.

“I’m fine,” Kinn assured him.

Porsche gave him a look that hopefully portrayed just how much Porsche didn’t believe that. “You wouldn’t have been able to shoot Vegas, you know? Not with your left hand. The recoil on your shoulder...”

Kinn rolled his eyes. “I wouldn’t have had to. Vegas isn’t stupid enough to challenge me directly. Not yet, anyway.”

“And indirectly?” Porsche got Kinn’s shirt off and Kinn let it drop to the floor. The bandage over his wound was still clean, no signs of bleeding, and Porsche let out a breath of relief.

“What do you think you were?” Kinn asked. “Not to discredit,” Kinn raked his eyes over Porsche, “that. But Vegas wouldn’t have gone to those lengths just for a fuck. He’s pushing the boundaries, searching for my weak spots.”

Porsche raised an eyebrow. “Which am I? A boundary? Or a weak spot?” Kinn pulled him in for a kiss instead of answering but Porsche didn’t feel like letting him get away with it. “Which am I?” He asked again. “Am I your protection or a chink in your armor?”

Kinn dropped his head to Porsche’s collarbone. Porsche felt the soft brush of his lips on his skin. “Don’t make me say it,” he pleaded quietly. “Not now.” Porsche nodded and Kinn lifted his head to kiss him. “You’re back with me,” he said between kisses. “And you’re going to stay.”

“Yes,” Porsche gasped when Kinn let him up for air. “Always.” He let Kinn kiss him again before pulling his face away. “How’s the shoulder?”

Kinn huffed. “I’m fine,” he repeated.

“Good.” Porsche pushed him gently down on the couch behind him and climbed onto his lap. “You said something about three or four times? And I only remember one.”

Another interesting thing I found in today epsiode…

We know that Korn is a chess player and his sons and the people around him are the pieces. He needs to keep himself in power, need to ensure he wins the battle.

It starts with the way they’re dressed. Korn is in dark colours and Gun sits in a lighter grey (mimicking white).

Then Gun makes the first move, wearing white shorts. Korn switches to wearing all black, reacting to the moves his brother tries to play.

And then we get to the actual moves played by Korn.

1. Send your pawns out to die. 21 gun salute to all the countless bodyguards who died because Korn is a piece of shit.

2. Sent in his bishop. Chan who is his right hand man, who can move across the board far more openly than Korn but doesn’t hold the same amount of power.

3. Have the queen protect you. Literally he saw his brother closing in and left the door housing their supposed dead foster sister wide open, knowing that her presence would throw off Gun.

4. Checkmate your opponent. Headshot….need I say more?

5. My ultimate favourite that funnily enough happens after the checkmate….castling. Switch the king and rook. Hides away the king and exposes the rook. And what does Korn do?

Makes Porsche the head of the minor family.

I’m fucking shook 69 ways to Sunday….

incoherent ramble on Vegas' character in the show 1/???

i'm gonna go ahead and say I didn't read the whole novel, and I do not treat the novel!Vegas as the same character as show!Vegas so i'm not gonna speak on anything novel character did, cause, frankly i do not care for the novel. the show's where it's at.

Vegas is a very interesting character to me. He doesn't have a lot of screen time--first time we see him, it's when minor family comes to visit. He arrives in a different car than his father, and shoots a smirk at Porsche and Pete. When Macau comes hurt and screaming, Vegas' moves to check on him and console him (while Gun uses the situation to force Korn's hand and punish Porsche).

During the scene, Vegas just seems pissed but controlled the entire time. He leads Macau out of the room--presumably to take care of his head.

Later there's the scene with Gun and Vegas talking alone, and Gun basically treats Vegas as if he was his employee that he's giving orders to. If I had no knowledge of the two being family in context, I'd think it's a boss scolding and giving an order to his employee. Vegas tries to get an answer to "why" he's being ordered to get close to Porsche, but is met with an aggressive outburst, and he immediately shuts down. He just relents, changes his tone and says "yes, pa" and that's it. So, my brain jumps to "oh abused / neglected child reaction huh," and not gonna lie, I started to wonder if Gun gave Vegas more orders like this, to "get close" to another person.

so, what I can gather is that Vegas and Macau have a healthier, brotherly dynamic, while Vegas and Gun have a cold and distanced or abusive dynamic.

We know that the second family is generally treated as worse, lesser, and they're set out to fail, basically. I wonder how it influenced Vegas and Macau. Obviously, Macau went in the route of "pay attention to me!!!" and being loud, but Vegas seemingly does the opposite--he becomes a chameleon. Warm, attentive, friendly and empathetic for Porsche. Witty, cutting, daring and confident with Kinn. Mildly threatening, almost seductive and mysterious with Pete. Quiet, passive, emotionally distanced with Gun. It can be argued that with Kinn, Pete and Porsche he puts on a mask and is manipulative, it can't be said about how he is with Gun, which makes me wonder how the "real" Vegas is.

There's of course the short scene of him being alone, but I don't know what to make of it. He sure seems to enjoy the feeling of pain, as it's the thing he's remembering. But I can't say much more about it, idk, maybe because Bible's ass is too distracting.

WIP Wednesday Silvered Perceptions Chapter 3

Happy Humpday, I went through a ringer of a day at work today. Mind you not really at work, cause YAY work from home! Still, brain fried and spoon count is seriously low. SO, I have decided to share a snippet of the next chapter of Silvered Perceptions with you lovely people. We’re back to Kinn in this chapter and he’s being a menacing mafia boss... which is an excellent look on him! Sadly no cocktails this week, but they will be back soon!

Waltzing into a meeting of the Italian mafia is a ballsy move on his part, but Kinn feels that sending a message should be done with some level of style and panache. Don doesn’t seem to agree based on his irate reaction. Kinn thinks that’s a personal problem.

They had to squeeze the time and place of this meeting out of one of the spies from the Italian mafia. Everyone in this business is aware that the other clans and families are always trying to slip people in to get information. It’s part of the game. Who can find the mole first, and what can you do with them once you’ve found them? Kinn believes that with the proper application of misinformation, a mole can become an asset. Occasionally, they can be used and dumped as needed. With the importance of sending a message back to Don, he felt this little spy could be wasted for a particularly good opportunity.

“... outrageous Kinn! This is a private meeting that you should not be…” 

Kinn spends a second checking that Don is still on his tirade before assessing the room. It’s full of Don’s leadership and the heads of the minor families tied to the Italian group here in Bangkok. There are only about six people in the room outside of Don’s enforcers. The Italian presence here isn’t weak, but it’s not large.

Kinn walks around the table to stand opposite Don, who is still spitting mad, and looms over the man currently seated there. The frantic scramble of the other man causes leaking panic hormones as he moves to get out of the chair. Kinn lets himself smirk. 

Settling into the now vacant seat, he levels Don with his most unimpressed look. His security has already swept through the room, disarming Don’s men. The other alpha is letting off sulphuric scents of anger and upset. Kinn just barely stops himself from fanning the scent from his face.

Last time they met, he played nicely. Ignored the homophobic jokes and generally didn’t make as much of a fuss as he could have. Things have changed now. Don will answer for his actions the other night.

“We need to have a chat about how business is done in Bangkok.” Kinn doesn’t raise his voice; he doesn’t need to. The room is silent as soon as he opens his mouth.

Don leans back in his chair, likely inhaling for another tirade. Kinn isn’t going to give him the chance. He ignores the others in the room; they’re inconsequential.

“Things have changed. My father is not in charge of the family. I am. Which means you answer to me.” He pauses here to let the message sink in.

Don scowls in dislike at his words. Tough shit.

“Not only did you try to kill me, you then brought an unrelated civilian into our mess. That kind of risk is not acceptable.” The growl in his soft voice is enough to snap the men behind Don into high alert, not that it means anything. He could put every man here on their knees, but he’s above that kind of blunt show of power.

Don scoffs. “Are you so sure the boy is unrelated?” He turns to the other men at the table, seeking their approval. The others dodge his eyes, twitching in their seats. Kinn smells the sour stench of fear choking up the room.

Titling his head, Kinn ponders — Don doesn’t seriously think that Porsche is on his payroll, does he?

“I take a couple extra looks at a pretty bartender, and you all assume that they are someone of significance to me?” 

He’s lying through his teeth of course, but Don doesn’t need to know that. The less important they think Porsche is before Kinn has him safe behind the compound’s walls, the better. 

Chess may be his father’s game, but Kinn has always excelled at poker.

Next chapter will be up in the next couple of days! @luckydragon10 got her claws on it already so we just have a few finer details to iron out before I can share it with you all!

KinnPorsche: Episode 14, Part I

In this episode: a trip down memory lane, Tankhun gets an A+ in arts and crafts, Miss Erika holding it down for the ladies and Uncle Gun doesn’t know how to dress for the occasion. This might be a good time to renovate bodyguard HQ.

1:43 Porsche appears to be having a series of flashbacks- and let me say that it was very nice of Vegas to drop him off; most people don't need a ride to their traumatic childhood memories.  

Porsche sees himself as a child drawing with his mother on the swing outside of his house.

6:18 Porsche heads inside the house and sees his childhood self hiding in a cabinet near the kitchen.  Adult Porsche climbs in the cabinet himself and has another flashback- this time witnessing the murder of his father.

9:20 Porsche comes out of his fugue state and Dad explains what happened: Porsche's father didn't want to be involved with the family business, Dad and Uncle Gun (of the minor family) tried to persuade him, then Uncle Gun got mad and shot him. Porsche's mother was so distressed she eventually killed herself with pills. Oh and Uncle Bitcoin was sent by Dad to watch the kids.

11:07 Dad has heart attack, falling back against the piano keyboard as he clutches his chest which is very extra of him.

12:00 The boys sit in a row, waiting to hear news of Dad. The news arrives and it isn't good.

14:31 Uncle Gun hears the news, and it sounds like a promotion! The minor family seems to think Dad was poisoned.

16:31 Bodyguard-in-Chief confirms with Kinn that Dad’s cause of death was poison.

18:40 Oh boy, an executive committee board meeting! The branches of the crime family try to force a vote of no confidence, but Kinn very confidently shoots and kills any dissenters. Now that's leadership! See you all at the teambuilding retreat next quarter!

22:25 The minor family shows up at the main family's compound.

23:25 Bang bang bang bang bang! so much shooting. 

I cannot believe Uncle Gun wore yachting clothes to a shoot-out: polo shirt, shorts, deck shoes and his jaunty scarf. 

Bodyguard-in-chief goes out like a total badass- he calls upstairs to warn the others and then takes out a cig and smokes his last.

He was only two weeks from retirement!

26:29 Vegas and the minor family make it upstairs and pour out of the elevator, guns blazing. 

Kinn also arrives with a fresh supply of bodyguards.

27:47 Porsche shows up!

28:10 Erika the gun lady is here with a pistol in each hand. Right on, woman!

29:00 Porsche: "I'm not on the main family's side, and I'm not on the minor family's side" 

They John Woo twirl and then Porsche takes a moment to grope Kinn.

30:00 The fight moves to the parking garage. Just when it seems Vegas has the upper hand a bedazzled radio controlled car rolls up- Arm and Tankhun to the rescue! As Kinn and Porsche run away hand in hand, more RC trucks outfitted with various weaponry assist them.

32:56 Here comes Miss Erika with an Uzi in one hand and a lit flare in the other. I would love to see a show about this lady and how she came into the organization. You know she must have a great backstory.

33:20 Nooooooo why are we cutting to Chay. He is sitting on Yok's good loveseat with a head full of hair dye. He isn't even wearing a ratty t-shirt and he didn't even saran wrap his head. Do you even know how to home dye?! YE GODS HE PUT HIS HEADPHONES ON OVER HAIR DYE! Unacceptable! The headphones block out the noise of the huge fight behind him between Kim and some minor family thugs. Chay is oblivious as always.

36:00 Uncle Gun shoots Erika, then goes into Porsche-ception Part II, retelling the death of Porsche's parents from his perspective. In Uncle Gun's version, Dad shot Porsche's father and mother.

Christmas season came around quickly and much to Florence's dismay, her twin brother broke the news to her that he wasn't coming to spend the holidays with her. It was going to be another Christmas at the Clifford's for the young mother, and now, as Clementine's first Christmas was approaching, Florence couldn't help but feel badly that she didn’t have more to offer her daughter. Michael and Luke didn't mind whatsoever as they were more than happy to have Florence and her daughter over for the holiday season. They even invited Emilio, who would be spending Christmas alone since Ivan was staying in LA with Callum and a flight to Spain was way out of budget. The Clifford's generosity was something Florence admired greatly.

It was late morning on December 24th when Emilio met Florence at her condo to help her finish packing. Florence was running between her closet and her suitcase, having spent too much time packing the baby clothes to even think of herself. Emilio was sat on the floor in the living room, Clementine between his spread legs with various plastic toys. Once the baby food was packed and the diaper bag was re-stocked, they made their way down to the parking garage with all their bags to pack into Emilio’s car. Once Clementine was strapped into her car seat, Florence noticed a familiar car approaching. The pastel blue stood out amongst the dark hues in the garage.

“Surprise.” Callum whispered as he got into the car with the twins.

“Callum, oh my God.” Florence groaned with annoyance, more to herself than anyone.

Once parked, Grayson got out of his car and walked over to her, his expression was unreadable.

Michael and Luke were more than surprised to see a party of seven at their doorstep midday on Christmas Eve. Pleasantly surprised, but surprised nonetheless. Especially when they laid eyes on the eldest DiCaprio son who was stood next to his twin sister, any and all colour already drained from his face. As the group walked through the door greeting everyone, Michael made sure to give Callum a hug, whispering a “It’s really good to see you again.”

At that sentence, it was like all worry fell away, replaced with memories of all the sweet things the Clifford men did for him, and Callum replied with a, “You too, Mr. Clifford.”

Florence smiled at the interaction, her own worry falling aside as she was back in her home away from home; the place where she spent most of her pregnancy when she had nothing. It hadn’t been long since she had last been there, but it always felt like home to her.

Once they made their way to the living room, Florence introduced her guests, Ethan, Grayson, and Emilio already knowing so much about the family that helped her at her worst. Callum held tightly to Ivan’s hand, his eyes flicking nervously to Aidan who was stood opposite him, his arms crossed over his chest.

Florence could hear the nervousness in his voice when he introduced Ivan as his boyfriend to the group. Of course, they all welcomed him happily. All expect Aidan who slunk off somewhere else to avoid greeting the newest member of their strange ‘family’.

Everyone sat around the living room, Florence sandwiched between Grayson and Emilio, Clementine sitting on the rug in the middle of the room with Connor, Aidan’s younger brother, and Ivan. Grayson draped his arm over the back of the couch, innocently joining into conversation with the group. Emilio glanced at him and frowned to himself, setting a hand on Florence’s thigh. She smiled at him, keeping her hands folded together on her lap.

“I’m taking Psychology.” Emilio replied. “Minor in Spanish Studies.”

He couldn’t hold back his smile at the girl’s terrible dance moves and ended up swaying along with her. Luke then had to carve the turkey, the serving process uncomfortably quiet.

Dinner seemed to be mostly fine. Conversation was pleasant and the Christmas spirit was back in the room. Emilio and Grayson barely so much as looked at each other but it seemed better that way. They all watched a movie together after dinner, Connor quickly choosing Elf from the cabinet of various DVDs as it was always another family Christmas tradition. Last time Florence was sat on the couch watching Elf was a year ago, when she was still pregnant with Clementine and was staying at the Clifford’s. So much had changed since then.

Once the movie was over, Emilio took Clementine upstairs to get her ready for bed as Florence followed Grayson to the guest room. He noticed her following him but simply glanced at her before looking away, unzipping his bag to take out his pyjamas.

“Did you have an okay night?” Florence asked quietly from the doorway.

“Yeah. Michael and Luke are really nice.” Grayson answered plainly.

“I’m sorry about Emilio.”

Grayson didn’t answer.

Callum and Ivan were stuck on the pull out in the living room – it was either that or Aidan’s room which was arguably not an option – and she stopped to hug her brother and say good night to the two of them before heading upstairs. Connor’s bedroom door was already closed so she let the brothers to their privacy and walked into Aidan’s room where she was staying, finding Emilio sitting on the bed with Clementine in his lap and a picture book in hand. The eleven-month-old had damp hair from her recent bath and a red pacifier in her mouth to match her Christmas pyjamas. Her small hands were holding onto the sleeves of Emilio’s hoodie bunched up at his wrists and she seemed to be reading along with him. At the sound of the door closing, they both looked over at her and smiled. Florence climbed up next to them, kissing her daughter’s head before leaning on Emilio’s shoulder.

He didn’t last long and Porsche wasn’t too far behind him. Porsche freed his hand and wiped it off on Kinn’s pants. Kinn couldn’t be bothered to care. “Good for now?” Porsche asked, like he hadn’t gotten off too.

“For now,” Kinn agreed with a smirk.

Porsche rolled his eyes. “I really do have to go. Sooner we deal with the Italians, the closer I am to shooting Vegas.” With that, he left Kinn standing there with his pants hanging around his thighs. 

Big came in just as Porsche left and he quickly averted his gaze. “Khun Kinn, Khun Korn has requested a meeting.”

Kinn pulled his pants up with a heavy sigh. “I’m on my way.”

Kinn wasn’t sure how everything went sideways so quickly. Their plan to root out Don and the rest of the Italians went off without a hitch, he and Porsche working seamlessly next to each other. But in the aftermath, while the dust was still settling, Vegas appeared from the rubble with Tawan, Tawan, in hand. Tawan was a wreck, his face bloody and his torn clothes revealing bruised skin. He was leaning heavily on Vegas as he led him out of Don’s basement. Kinn could only stare. He hadn’t seen or heard from Tawan in over two years, not since he’d disappeared in the middle of the night with only a note left on his pillow telling Kinn he was sorry but he couldn’t handle Kinn’s lifestyle anymore. Kinn had thought he was doing him a kindness by not chasing after him and dragging him back even as it had broken his heart but looking at him now…

“Kinn,” Tawan gasped when he saw him. He lurched out of Vegas’ hold and stumbled over to Kinn, his arms wrapping around his shoulders. Tawan buried his face into Kinn’s neck and Kinn immediately wrapped his arms around him. He held tight when Tawan’s legs seemed to give out. “Kinn,” he gasped again, wetly this time. Kinn felt tears on his neck and he squeezed tighter. “You’re okay,” Tawan continued. “You’re okay.” He pressed a kiss to Kinn’s neck and then he was gone, ripped out of Kinn’s arms. 

Kinn didn’t even have time to blink before Tawan was a full step away from him, his head wrenched back from the grip Porsche had on his hair. “Porsche, no!” Kinn reached a hand out. Porsche turned blazing eyes on him even as his grip tightened. Tawan winced at the pull and Kinn felt it in his gut. “Let him go,” he commanded quietly. Everyone’s attention was on them and, Tawan aside, he couldn’t have Porsche disobeying him so openly. He tried to convey that with his eyes and some of it must have gotten across because Porsche slowly loosened his grip. After a moment, Tawan had free reign of his own head again and he tried to jerk away from Porsche altogether only for Porsche to grip his shoulder.

“He needs medical attention,” Porsche observed. He hadn’t looked away from Kinn even as Kinn’s own eyes kept flicking back and forth between the two men. “Should he be taken back to the compound?”

“Yes,” Kinn answered immediately. 

Porsche nodded slowly. “Ken,” he called. Ken appeared next to him. “Take him back. See that he gets the attention he needs.” Ken bowed his head far more respectfully than he ever had towards Porsche before and led Tawan away without a word. If his grip was perhaps too tight, no one was going to call him on it.

Tawan kept his eyes on Kinn, pleading for him, even when he had to walk almost backwards at one point. Kinn watched him go until Ken dragged him around a corner and he turned back to Porsche to find him barely an inch from him. Neither of them said a word but when Porsche stalked off, Kinn found himself following. He hesitated long enough to make sure Big was coordinating the clean up effort. With Don dead, there was a gap they would need filled. They needed to make sure they knew everything the man and his people had been doing. Big gave him a nod when he sent a questioning glance his way so Kinn followed in Porsche’s wake. Everyone gave him a wide berth. 

Porsche was standing still when Kinn made it into the room he’d found for them, his hands on his hips as he stared hard at Kinn. “I don’t care who he is,” he opened, before Kinn had a chance to offer an explanation. “I don’t give a shit if he’s your secret husband,” Porsche continued. “He does not kiss you and you do not touch him with your mark.” Porsche grabbed Kinn’s right hand and cradled it in his own. “This is mine. No one else’s. Do not fucking forget that.” He thrust it back at Kinn. “And keep your hands off of him where others can see.” Porsche was practically snarling in Kinn’s face at this point. Part of Kinn wanted to fight back, wanted to balk at Porsche giving him orders, but he knew how it had probably looked to everyone around them, Kinn embracing a man who wasn’t his soulmate even while his soulmate stood right there. 

“He’s my ex,” he offered. “He left me years ago. Or I thought he did…”

“I don’t care,” Porsche repeated. “Make sure he knows his place now or I will.”

Porsche’s words repeated themselves in his head when Kinn finally made it to his rooms later that night. He’d had to finish at the Italians’ place and meet with his father before he could even take a shower and he was ready to collapse.

The sight of Ken outside his doors changed all that. Ken bowed his head. “Mr. Tawan was released from medical with orders to rest, Khun Kinn. He asked to do so in your rooms.” Ken had been with him for years, long enough that he had known Tawan before he’d left. He would know it wasn’t an absurd request. But still, Kinn couldn’t help but feel this was some sort of test. He looked at his closed door behind Ken for a long moment.

“Thank you,” he murmured. “That’ll be all. Your shift ended an hour ago.” Ken took it for the dismissal it was and left him. Two other bodyguards, on loan from the perimeter security team since all of Kinn’s bodyguards were exhausted after the day’s events, lingered behind him and took up a post at his door when Kinn pushed it open. 

Soft music was playing and Kinn followed it to the bathroom where he found Tawan lounging in the bathtub, bubbles nearly up to his chin. His face was cleaned of blood but the bruises remained and a few cuts that should heal without leaving a scar. Kinn found himself just staring at him. Two years ago, he’d known it was a sight he would never get tired of, had known that Tawan was the man for him even though they hadn’t been soulmates. He’d had two years to accept that Tawan was gone for good, even managed to convince himself of it most days now, but here the man was. Like he’d never left. 

“Kinn.” Kinn met Tawan’s eyes and let himself be beckoned closer. “Look at you,” Tawan said softly. “Still as handsome as I last saw you.” Kinn sat on the edge of the tub and traced a finger, on his left hand he made sure, along the curve of Tawan’s face. Tawan shied away from him. “Not me, not anymore.”

“You’re beautiful,” Kinn exhaled. Tawan blinked up at him and smiled. He leaned closer to Kinn and Kinn gripped his jaw tight. He let the softness bleed out of him. “Now tell me what happened.”
