Dear Papaya Army,

Firstly, I want to start by saying thank you. Joining McLaren was a big deal for me, a team rich in history with a fantastic fanbase, and you embraced me from day one. Signing on the dotted line for this team and climbing into the car for the first time were proud moments, and I'll always carry that with me.

I also want to thank you because above anything I'm a sports fan, and I know how it feels to ride with someone through adversity and struggle. I know what it is like to support and cheer for someone when it isn't going well, it ruins your Sunday. Through all of that, I've still felt an overwhelming amount of support from you all. You've remained super loyal, and I want to say thank you for that. It would have been easy to jump off the bandwagon, but you've been pretty much unconditional all year. Don't ever underestimate the impact of your support, I certainly haven’t ever taken it for granted.

We'll always have Monza. The win in Monza was a fairy tale, but what's so great about that day is that it wasn't a selfish fairy tale, it wasn't just me, it was the whole team, with Lando getting second and us having the fastest pit-stop. It was the perfect weekend, and that made up for a lot of the more difficult ones because we were rewarded with the highest of highs.

Off the track, it's been a lot of fun and I want to say thank you to the team. When you've been racing with a team, you're connected for life. Sure, you switch teams, you move on, you change, but those connections you make are forever, whether it be with the mechanics, the engineers or any other team members I've worked with. These people have poured everything in over this two-year period, and I won't ever lose the connections I've made here. There is a part of McLaren that I'll always hold close to me. Even with the results this year, we lay that to rest, it is what is, and we move forward. The personal side is that I have a lot of fond memories at McLaren.

I've really enjoyed my time with Lando, not only as teammates but as people and friends, we've had some great times together, and that friendship has blossomed. There's been a lot of great moments between us both on and off camera, and I'm sure you'll all have your own favourite. It started with us banging some drums together and making terrible music, and along the way, we've stuck some rubbish tattoos on each other and were let loose with space hoppers, although Lando might not have loved that so much!! We've had a lot of laughs, we've driven some fast and exciting road cars together and giggled our way through it all.

Finally, I am excited for the future because I feel like I have dealt with the highs and lows from my time here and come out of it. On a personal level, it has not been 'all good, all ways', it has tested my resilience, but I have gotten through it, and now I'm excited to see how I take on challenges moving forwards. All of the tests that I have encountered here and everything that I've learned will only help me.

As much as I'd have loved to have won every race, I am grateful for these experiences. My journey with McLaren may be coming to end, but we’re connected for life now.

Alrighty, back to racing. Time for one last ride, let's do everything we can to finish on a high.

No regrets, just memories.

Ive hated phantom and sorceress since day 1 too. You are not alone. It completely just flattens both lena and gladstone's characters for what? You could genuinely replace gladstone with a paper bag and the episode would honestly still be the same. I feel like Gladstone was just there because 'haha hehe magicstone tease!' And this is coming from someone who liked magicstone a lot at the time. Even little 14 year old me watched that and was disappointed. Magicstone does not belong in ducktales 2017 in any way imo.

On the topic of ducktales critical opinions, i also have mixed feelings on astro boyd. It gave so much to boyd that i love, but i feel like it made people misunderstand gyro gearloose completely. Like im one of the three people who prefer boyd to live with the drakes because Doofus drake's parents to me are people who are well prepared to take care of a child/ren, and who try to improve as parents and people even after they fumbled in caring for doofus drake.

Imo Astro boyd is a good starting point, but many people treat it as THE finish line for gyro and boyd. gyro just began healing from his trauma. He is not ready to take full responsibility for boyd, and honestly, I'm not sure he ever will be. Most ppl don't understand this.

In conclusion, i feel like astro boyd (and honestly most of season 3) are good concepts but were victims of being episodes in a final season of a show affected by covid. People wanted ducktales to keep up the amazing momentum it had in season 2, but like season 3 was just at the wrong place, at the wrong time.

i think your feelings on astro boyd makes sense! gyro could be considered boyd's "father" but he wouldnt really be a good dad if that makes sense? obviously the Drakes arent the most perfect parents, but they clearly care for Boyd in a way that Gyro would struggle to because of the emotional connection to Akita/Tokyolk. I'll admit im also guilty for jumping on the "Gyro is Boyd's Dad!" bandwagon especially when the episode first came out, but i definitely agree that he (Gyro) shouldn't have full custody of Boyd until he works on his emotional issues

and that would have been great to see in a season 4! i think its good (and kind of correct) to see Astro Boyd as the start, but i think the fact we don't really get to see them interact... at ALL later is what makes it feel like the "finish" for a lot of people.

admittedly im not aware of the extent that covid affected the production of Ducktales but i definitely agree with you on how season 3 has a LOT of good concepts, but have extremely mixed execution (Louie's Eleven and Sword of Swanstantine come to mind for me). its really a shame. i think a part of the problem with the execution and pacing might also be because the writers knew that they didn't have a 4th season, so they squished some arcs and plots to have room to bring in other characters/cameos from other Saturday Afternoon Disney Shows

so, to jump on the SSO character revamp opinion bandwagon... oh boy. okay. this is going to get long.

first and foremost, let me start with the things i like. i like the new hairstyles (even though there's a small "but" i'll get to later) and they look pretty nice in my opinion.

(speaking of that, does anyone have any screenshots of the short bob with ponytail hairstyle revamp? the one i use on my character, if you've seen my screenshots)

secondly, the makeup system seems to be working well, and that's great because i'm kind of tired of having to use the same makeup preset all the time (since the others each have a part that annoys me).

third, there finally seems to be some much-needed facial variety, and i am very curious to see how they look once they're animated.

however, that ties right into the points i don't really find myself/my vision of Agrippa represented in.

the faces look... toddler-like. from what i've seen, all of them are quite round and friend-shaped, with little of the facial definition young adults tend to have — and while i'm sure there will be people who appreciate this exact kind of face, i... don't know how to feel about this yet. not necessarily negative, but not positive either.

there are some visual parts of the hair revamps that look unnatural, and as a specific example i want to point out the short bob with swept bangs (i think that's how it's called?). the bottom of it, the part near the neck, is... questionably modeled, and while i know it might have been an effort to save some polys, it does not look right to me, and i hope they improve it before releasing it. (speaking of this, i am also not very on board with the brownish shading they went for with this particular hair color.)

(shoutout to tumblr that saved this when i went to fact-check myself and my phone decided to free memory by killing tumblr)

and last but not least. look. i am glad people of curvier body types are getting their representation, that's great! except i don't really find my real life build represented in any of them, the thinnest one (and that's not really thin either, more like slightly below average?) is the most similar one.

compared to that one, i have way wider shoulders. i think that's what throws me off so much about it, aside from the fact that it also looks shorter than me (that might also be influencing my perception of it).

compared to my vision of Agrippa, none of the body types match up — while their shapeshifter nature can be tricky to represent, i've settled on a look for them that is mostly feminine shaped with a notable absence of breasts and a very "tall, swamp creature, can tear your head off" (think Sabine but leaner and a little less mean) vibe. a vibe that is simply not represented in the current selection.

Honestly I am sick and tired of the bandwagon of hate V-Force gets even from my Tumblr moots I mean it's just another season 😭 it's not my most fave but I love all the seasons more or less equally. A lot of my fave characters are there frrr

I'm so sorry that you keep coming across hate for it, sadly the bandwagon hating culture exists in every fandom and is usually perpetuated by people who have never seen the series/episode they are hating on!

I'm sure if most of these people sat down and watched V-force properly, they will find things they love about it too, it introduced such an interesting lore for bit-beasts, and great rival teams and had extremely funny scenes as well, with each of the BBA members getting personal motives and development arcs.

I too love all the seasons equally of course, but as I became a fan of the series through V-force, it will always hold a special place in my heart.

I'm not sure if you're up to read this whole essay rant I wrote in the Beyblade server months ago defending the season, but I'll paste it here anyways!

V-force’s only valid flaw in my eyes is that it precedes G-revolution, with the latter choosing to go in a completely different direction and thus invalidating a lot of set-up that V-force successfully managed to build up in it’s entire run. However, at the time that V-force was being written, it is clear that G-revolution wasn’t what the writers had set their endgame sights on, so to always compare the two as if the two seasons were similarly created is wrong and frankly imo, kinda silly at this point.

The writers worked on V-force arc by arc, building up the big bad in the background for the final showdown in an episodic sense. So when you view V-force with that lens, each arc has defining moments for each of the characters it’s built around upon. From the Europe tour arc of S1, the mystery and lore of bit-beasts and their existence was already set up well, with a lot of accreditation to the BBA team’s winning going to the fact that they had bonded better with their bit-beasts than any other bladers. V-force picks up on this and makes them the target for people who either wish to use this bond for themselves or don’t think that the BBA team is worthy of this bond and the power it holds. And in each of these arcs, the introduction of the antagonists, their characterisations and their eventual defeat is handled well. Granted there are filler episodes, but they’re used to build up background development for the BBA team or set up a motive for them to push their potential further, there is hardly a wasted episode in the series, and people who do feel that the fillers are unnecessary are absolutely being too strict on an anime written to cater to young boys. There’s a lot of good comedy in these fillers, and in-fighting and ideological differences within the BBA team, which in retrospect, sets up the initial fall-out in G-revolution.

V-force does focus on the characters and not just the bit-beasts though, Tyson struggles a lot with having people he considered his friends like Kane and Zeo become the villains attempting to take away his partner (another base set-up for G-rev). Kai has major guilt over getting Yuya involved and injured, Rei has ideological issues with how Team Psychic or Saint Shields operate, Max is the first one to get through to Mariam and prove that the BBA team deserve their Bit-beasts and their sacred quest is not valid. Tyson and Rei also have arguments over Tyson’s desperation to keep their bit-beats safe every time the villain starts to seem a bit stronger. To say that there is no character development or focus n V-force is just way too much of a blanket statement.

The only other flaw I do find in V-force is how the final tournament was labelled as a World Tournament, when it would’ve been better titled as a “Special” Tournament. This is where V-force diverges from S1 and leads to G-revolution completely leaving the set-up V-force built behind. I totally understand why the International teams didn’t cameo in V-force, bringing them in the tournament would mean writing in their development during the time gap, and that definitely would not have fit the time-frame for which V-force had been green lit for. It wouldn’t have been possible for Tala or Rai or Ralf to show up without having become even stronger than they were last time, and the focus shifting from defeating Zeo and protecting their bit-beasts to strategising over defeating each of the international teams. So they went with random character of the days that could be defeated in an episode or two and Zeo could retain his status as the main enemy. Which is why I’ll never treat the V-force tournament as a World tournament, because it really wasn’t that, but despite of that this is a pretty minor flaw in my eyes.

No series can be absolutely perfect, in the end, it is written and created by people after all. The team responsible for V-force decided to take the show in a direction they felt would add more to the characters after S1, and it just so happens to be that the team behind G-revolution felt it better to go in a different direction altogether. It is perfectly possible to enjoy V-force without comparing it to G-revolution, and seeing it as a stand-alone vacation time for the BBA team before the actual World Tournament rolled around.

But, better late than never!

1. If you had to change the pairing’s very first meeting, how would you change it?

Lol! This is literally the subject of Sleepless in New York (a short story AU written from Drake's POV that explores what could've happened if Drake met Harper in New York by himself (without the other guys)).

That said, I am sure that I will come up with other alternative first meetings for other AU fics in the future (but at the moment my focus is on finishing up Sleepless and (Less Than) Noble Intentions, which is my TRR Book 2 rewrite so I don’t have details to share atm).

2. What song fits your pairing the most?

OMG SO MANY! About half of all the songs on my main playlist are Harper and Drake songs in some shape or form 😅

But if I really, really had to choose just one, then I guess it would be Hell of a View by Eric Church, especially these two stanzas:

4. Do you prefer canon ideas or do you have your own headcanons for them?

My own HC 😅 

Don't get me wrong - there are many aspects of canon that I loved (as otherwise I wouldn't be writing TRR fanfic!) but especially with Drake, I think PB missed some great opportunities, which I decided to explore in my rewrites (e.g. I significantly upped Drake's half-Texan-ness, I made him multilingual, I gave him a job, he can dance, etc.). All these elements are present in canon in some way, shape or form, but I wanted to give them more prominence.

Also, I was a bit miffed that especially in TRR1, pretty much all the diamond scenes were with Liam, and one of things I really wanted to explore in my rewrite was how these scenes could have played out with Drake instead. So that is what I did 👍

5. Favourite canon moment of them?

This scene from the start of TRH1 - the banter and the thirst is SO Drake and Harper and it totally cracks me up every time!

6. Least favourite canon moment of them?

As my readers are well-aware, it is the start of TRR2 when Drake doesn't go after MC when she is dragged out of the Coronation Ball 😒

This actually bothered me so much that I ended up completely ditching canon and doing a full rewrite of what I think should've happened / what I would've loved to have happened instead in this situation 😅 (especially considering how Drake feels about MC - I cannot see him just saying 'Oh... Okay. I'll just not talk to her for weeks on end because Liam said so.')

7. Favourite headcanon trope/idea? (Your own or someone else’s)

The fact that Drake is a Guard... and has a motorbike. Both @angelasscribbles and I seem to have fully and unashamedly jumped onto this bandwagon and are never getting off 😅

Because let's face it - Drake in a biker jacket is straight up🔥and him being a Guard makes total sense given that (i) he is very secretive about what he actual does at court, (ii) he is randomly involved in all this security stuff anyway, (iii) his Dad and pseduo-uncle Bastien are both Guards, and (iv) I think it's seriously sexy 😇

10. Least favourite aspect of them/their relationship dynamics? (Can be headcannon)

Hmm... Probably the fact that both H&D are quite stubborn and (especially in Harper’s case, Drake a bit less so) have a tendency to act on impulse,with the effect that they invariably end up hurting each other, even though that’s not their intention.

20. What made you decide to ship them?

When I started playing TRR I originally just followed the Liam route that PB kept pushing you towards (though I did the - admittedly very limited - diamond scenes with Drake as well). But during the Coronation Ball chapters I had a realisation that 'No. Actually, I don't want to be Queen - I'm not gonna sleep with Liam in the hedge maze' (because I totally do not want to marry a prince in real life - just look at what Meghan Markle had to go through). So, as a result of that, in TRR2 (and thereafter) I started seriously going after Drake and I haven't looked back since!

A couple of months back while on my Instagram I've noticed this pretty neat trend of art pieces of a Corrupted/Monster Steven redesign. Each of their own take! Some had the classic four arm look (prior to the theory being confirmed), some with darker colored scales, and others may have looked a bit more mammalian with some hints of reptilian. With that said, I've settled on joining the bandwagon and came up with my own personal version! Like this:

So basically what I did is take aspects from the canon design we come to recognize since "I Am My Monster" while putting in some others I remember back when the idea used to be a well-thought out, highly possible at the time theory. Also I couldn't help the four arms parts since I still think that looked cool on him, so I added that!

And I may have borrowed the ears part from @nugatorysheep (not sure if that's the right user... feel free to correct me and I'll change it!)

Just note: I still think the canon Monster Steven is great personally, but the one I whipped up here may be at an.... ever so slightly..... a tiny bit more at the top. All in all, I love both designs the same. And I might use this design for a little something in the possible future. Who knows?

(Another note: I'm gonna say this design stands at hind legs about 25 feet at default. But he does increase in size the more negative emotions affected he gets.)

Dating Auction? Yay or nay? What if it's with our resident heartthrob James "Bucky" Barnes?

This was for charity, right? That's what you kept telling yourself. And Bucky wasn't your boyfriend – per se – although you two had fucked around a few times. But when you found out he was on the panel of eligible bachelors to buy a date with, you almost lost your mind.

Tony never heard you argue against an idea so adamantly. You mentioned how the female (and male and other – hey...Bucky was sexy) gaze was inherently problematic, how objectifying men was just as bad as objectifying women. Tony only sent you a smirk, going, "that's what we're calling it now? Then I bet you were next level objectifying the Manchurian Candidate last Friday, huh?"

And in that moment, your face never heated up so quickly. And you shut your mouth right up.

Now it was the night of. Bucky looked so great in his suit (what color do you think he's wearing tonight? Did you subconsciously try and match with him?) and he was so big and broad...you almost wanted to convince him to ditch. But once again. Charity.

Apparently, you weren't the only one thinking Bucky looked like a million bucks. The girl from accounting – Hailey – had her eye on him as soon as all the men got on stage. She could have went for someone attractive and single (like Steve and Sam...well, Bucky was technically single too but that's a bridge you'd cross when you got there). But she wanted Bucky. How would you feel about that?

In any way, you don't say much as the auction starts. You're calm and you see your friends get dates with some lucky people. But now it was Bucky's turn, and little did you know, Hailey wasn't the only person gunning for his attention tonight.

Bucky got to five hundred dollars quickly before the first person dropped out, and he was racking up his bill quickly. What is the highest bid you think Bucky got that night? Think wisely, because it came from you.

You didn't plan on jumping onto the bandwagon, but when Hailey seemed like she was going to win the date, your pettiness took over. Apparently, your price was too high because Hailey sent you a glare–but she didn't continue. Bucky even looked momentarily surprised. You won the date, but at what cost (literally)?

It wasn't until afterwards that the weight of the situation settled onto you. You just got a date with Bucky. A date...with Bucky.

He approached you afterward, the smirk on his face growing when he saw your sheepish expression.

"If you wanted to spend time with me, doll, you just had to ask."

"Shut up," you grumbled, feeling your face heating up.

Bucky only laughed, throwing an arm over your shoulder, "it's okay...we're gonna have a lot of fun. And I'll make sure every penny was worth it." Bucky leaned into your ear and whispered, "I'll even do that thing you like."

God, the current state of the fandom is… far from great. I was generally not in a positive mood yesterday and this was a huge reason why. The sheer toxicity they displayed without any ounce of remorse or hesitation was downright disgraceful and it keeps finding ways to creep back up, no matter what I do to focus on something else. As someone who rediscovered this wonderful reboot and has been obsessed with it for less than a year now, it makes me sad.

I have been making such fun memories during my time here, a few of which have been rather impactful for me. Seeing everyone jumping the bandwagon and behaving so immaturely? I'm sorry, but out of all the controversies and discourse, this is easily the worst one yet. I had no choice but to leave the MLP fandom back in 2018 and even stop watching the show up until the series finale aired because of the rampant the ToonKriticY2K drama. I do not want to do the same thing with this one too; I'm so excited to see the next batch of episodes, especially the upcoming Halloween and DWD episodes, but how can I be when a lot of you have been a bunch of toxic fuckwads for the past two nights?

Part of me is thinking of at least taking a small break until things have fully calmed down. I'll still talk about the show with my friends and try to continue queueing posts to @white-agony-creek, but I might not reblog a lot of DT content onto my main blog like I used to for a tad bit. I want to refocus a little and come back to it with a clearer head. Other cartoons like Amphibia, The Owl House, and even Infinity Train have been helping me get through this hiatus, so be on the look out for imminent spoilers in the coming weeks. Online classes for the new college semester has also started for me yesterday and I want to figure out what days I should focus on what assignments.

 IW conveniently left some major gaps in the storytelling. Maaaaajor gaps. Like yeah, whatever happened to Valkyrie (and Korg)? How come Thor couldn’t use his lightning? Maybe he was afraid to use it inside a spaceship. But he DID use it here.

Oh wait, that’s one of those omitted trailer scenes. Maybe it was omitted exactly because it was inconsistent with Thor being unable to use his lightning when the Statesman was attacked by Thanos.

Suddenly Thor needed a weapon again to channel his power of lightning. 

Joss Whedon has been accused by SJW’s of being a misogynist for having Natasha feel like a monster because she couldn’t have children.

Well, let me jump on the bandwagon too, go all anti-toxic masculinity and call out the Avengers films (NOT the Russo films because I still believe The Winter Soldier and Civil War are the best MCU films ever) on being all about endless, longer than necessary battles and super weapons and gadgets. Gadgets gadgets gadgets. Films that were made for boys with toys.

Boys, always remember, you’re nothing unless you have a big dick or a big car or the next expensive gadget. “The power within” that Taika made a pitch for simply. Doesn’t. Sell. Marvel can’t make money out of thin air.

Sure. But it’s also very beautiful merchandise.

And Thor’s inability to use his lightning power in the Statesman is STILL inconsistent with “that other MCU film”.

You know what? Maybe the Grandmaster was right. Maybe those lightnings were just sparkles. Just for show.

*shakes head*.

Also, t’s funny how many things Thor knows about the Infinity Stones or about Thanos decimating Xandar to get the Power Stone for the purpose of hasty   quick exposition. Also he mentions that Thanos “slaughtered half his people”. Nice one, Thor, nice gap in the storytelling to fill in later. So I assume Thor knows somehow that half his people have survived? (a fact we didn’t see) Did that happen before Thanos entered the Statesman? Were they teleported somewhere with the help of Heimdall and Valkyrie as their leader? Did they jump on life boats? Or was Thor hanging there, struggling in Thanos’ hands, counting the corpses and thinking “One two three four five… oh that’s not all of them, they must have escaped somehow, phew.” But I didn’t hear any wailing as it happens when people are not dead but conscious, severely injured and lying on the ground.

It seems to me Thanos gave him a little speech recounting his adventures so far before grabbing his body and torturing him in front of Loki. Like, a very detailed speech that we didn’t see.

Lol yesterday I got a troll-under-the-guise-of-a-friend telling me that “one Taika film cannot undo decades of work” (I’m assuming they meant comic book canon, because the MCU has been around for only a decade, not decadeS. Also I’m sure they copied that phrase from somewhere on tumblr, sounds like all the other Taika-hating pet phrases). I wonder, is this the new tumblr trend, shitting on Taika now that the new MCU film is out? What a great opportunity for all those who hated Ragnarok for all these months (for Tom/Loki-stanning purposes I guess) to hide behind IW now and use it as an excuse to hate on the previous MCU film. Quite convenient. Personally I don’t follow the comics, I follow MCU canon. And if the MCU cannot be consistent with its own movies then I’m sure it’s not Taika’s fault.

Well of course Loki is alive. But let me tell you this. 

I’m not saying Loki isn’t dead.

I’m just saying, with all those convenient plot holes they left in the movie (his body not turning back to its Jotun form etc etc)  they could bring him back any time they choose. Next year, when the new Thor film is out, in a decade from now, whenever. WHENEVER.

Right now he has a 50% chance of being alive.
