15 Best SNES Platformers Ever
https://ift.tt/2UzmXAm
Platformers have long been an entry point for new gamers. Video games may have greatly expanded in scope over the years and now offer so many different genres and experiences that it’s nearly impossible to keep track of them, but that’s actually a big part of the reason why it’s still so much fun to look back at these timeless games where the main objective was often to simply jump from one place to the next.
There is no console that celebrated the brilliance of the platformer better than the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The SNES may be best known for expanding the adventure and RPG genres, as well as raising a generation’s expectations for video game graphics, but few consoles have come close to rivaling the Super Nintendo’s library of classic platforming titles.
It’s hard to narrow this list down to just 15 games, but from action-based platformers to pure platforming classics, these are the best examples of this timeless genre that the SNES gifted the gaming world.
15. Jelly Boy
Putting you in control of a jelly baby (a candy that is popular in the U.K. and surrounding areas), Jelly Boy was only released in Europe when it debuted in 1994. The game has a colorful aesthetic and some unique platforming elements built around the main character’s ability to transform into a myriad of vehicles, tools, and other objects. Those metamorphoses will be familiar to anyone who has played a Wario Land title or Kirby’s Epic Yarn.
Admittedly, Jelly Boy‘s mechanics can be a little clunky and the controls are deficient compared to some of the later games on this list. Still, you will be hard-pressed to find a more original platformer on the console that isn’t made by Nintendo themselves. You can even play it now via the Nintendo Switch Online service.
14. Demon’s Crest
Released by Capcom in 1994 as the third game featuring the character Firebrand (who debuted in the Ghosts ‘n Goblins series), Demon’s Crest is a forgotten gem in the SNES catalog. It adds some variety to the traditional action-platformer by giving the playable protagonist the ability to fly and shoot fireballs as well as access other upgradeable attacks and maneuvers as their quest rolls along. That feature adds a little Zelda-like adventuring to the mix, and you’ll certainly need those late-game power-ups because this platformer means business.
There are many difficult platformers on this list, but few boast the plethora of boss battles seen in this one. It’s actually similar to Mega Man in terms of its fighting style and jumping requirements, so if you are looking for an alternative to the Blue Bomber that keeps the basics of the genre intact, you’ll have a hard time doing better than Demon’s Crest.
13. Joe & Mac
Joe & Mac is honestly a fairly basic platformer for its era. What gets it onto this list of the best games in that genre, though, is the creativity and execution of its setting.
The game sees you control two different cavemen who rely on basic prehistoric items such as fire, bats, bones, etc. The bosses are pretty cool (dinosaurs are fun for all ages) and the controls hold up well enough that you won’t ever feel like you have to force the avatar into doing something that the interface simply won’t allow for. The game spawned a sequel that was also released on SNES, but the original is unique enough to get the nod here.
12. Super Ghouls ‘n Ghosts
Despite what the title may suggest, Super Ghouls ‘n Ghosts is actually the third game in the Ghosts ‘n Goblins series. Like the previous games, this classic sees you battle various monsters and bosses that fit the setting nicely. Although the game is maybe a little too action-heavy to get the nod over the SNES’ best platformers, it uses its platforming elements to elevate the entire experience.
The difficulty is insanely high and the sheer amount of sprites on screen at once can lead to some lag that only adds to the frustrations of this arduous journey, but the game has a way of keeping things light and humorous when the frustration sets in. How many other games see the protagonist stripped of their armor, quite literally, when he takes too many hits?
11. Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong’s Double Trouble!
The third installment in the beloved Donkey Kong Country trilogy certainly isn’t hated by many, but it is usually viewed as a step down from the first two games. Whether that has to do with a change in composer for the soundtrack, the inability to play as Donkey or Diddy, or the fact it was released after the Nintendo 64 was on the market, the title’s sometimes mixed reputation often prevents it from being appreciated as a divine platforming experience.
The environments and storytelling in this game are well-executed. If you’re observant, you may even notice that the developers were trying to say something about the sad state of ape habitats and pollution in the wild. Even if you didn’t dive too deep into that surprising bit of social commentary, you’ll likely find that the platforming in this one remains top-notch and that the overall experience remains severely underrated.
10. DoReMi Fantasy: Milon’s DokiDoki Adventure
As the only game on this list that wasn’t initially released outside of Japan, many gamers may not know that DoReMi Fantasy is a whimsical experience that features some of the key elements of Mario and Kirby’s best adventures in terms of gameplay and graphics. Starring a young child whose objective is to reclaim music for the forest, DoReMi utilizes some clever puzzles that may not be unusual for the platformer genre but certainly add to the fun.
The game got a Virtual Console release in North America in 2008, but that’s sadly the best chance many gamers have had in recent years to take a chance on this title. It’s a great example of how people should be more open to experiencing games that weren’t localized the first time around.
9. Donkey Kong Country
Perhaps the most famous game starring Nintendo’s lovable ape, the original Donkey Kong Country was Rare’s first big title for the SNES and practically started their decade-plus long relationship as a second-party developer with the Big N. Tasked with showing off off the console’s pre-rendered graphics system, the crew from Britain proved to be up to the task. Honestly, this game still looks halfway decent in 2021.
While the actual platforming is not as good as the Super Mario games on the SNES, it offered a different flavor of jumping that is still very much appreciated. The “weight” of Donkey Kong and Diddy means that the platforming is less flighty than in Super Mario games, and the rideable animal buddies you encounter along the way add a little flair to the experience.
8. ActRaiser
As a game that serves as both an action-platformer and a God simulator, this underrated and forgotten gem from Enix and developer Quintet showed off the visual and audio capabilities of the SNES in the early days of the console. You play as the “Master” who is tasked with building towns around the world and fending off the evils that threaten them. It’s hard to juggle two completely different genres like that, but ActRaiser finds a great balance.
The game was re-released for the Wii Virtual Console in 2007 but has otherwise been paid little attention in the years since its release. That’s unfortunate because there aren’t many games from 30 years ago that provide this much depth and versatility. Both parts of the experience are extremely solid in their own right, and together add up to become something truly special.

7. Kirby Super Star
Even the most ardent Kirby fans would probably agree that the franchise can get a little stale at times. There are only so many ways Kirby can suck an enemy up, transform his powers to match theirs, and ultimately defeat King Dedede. That’s why Kirby Super Star is still arguably the best game that the pink cutie pie has ever starred in.
Featuring eight different games within the game, the genre-mixing in this one is really off the charts. There are racing elements, adventure tones, and shooting sequences amongst the different sections of the playthrough. The experience was so beloved that it was eventually remade for the Nintendo DS as Kirby Super Star Deluxe. There is something for everyone in this package, and it shows the best parts of Kirby’s history.
6. Mega Man X
The original run of NES Mega Man titles are arguably still more famous than all of the others, but Mega Man X just has more of what makes those games great. It retains the eight bosses and weapon upgrades that can be completed/acquired in whatever order the player chooses, and it even has that same incredible soundtrack that the Blue Bomber’s adventures are always famous for.
Mega Man X‘s graphical upgrades admittedly take some of that eight-bit nostalgia out of the experience, but the game ultimately makes up for it by offering new gameplay experiences. Jumping on walls and acquiring upgrades to defensive maneuvers gives Mega Man an even more badass skillset, and the game generally does an excellent job of emphasizing the “platforming” parts of its action-platformer mix.
5. Super Castlevania 4
Super Castlevania 4 is actually a kind of soft remake of the original game, and the developers at Konami did a great job of making that game more digestible for newcomers while keeping all of the iconic elements from the classic NES title.
The Castlevania basics are all here (you still control Simon Belmont, equipped with his famous whip and ax, and battle through the game’s 11 stages before reaching Dracula), but an ideal mix of combat and platforming makes this one of the most irreplaceable platformers in the SNES catalog. It’s still an airtight action-platformer experience in 2021.
4. Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest
The second game in the DKC trilogy took all of the best parts of the first title and refined them to create a truly unique platforming game that was a lot more than fancy graphics (a reputation the original game has had a hard time shaking). Diddy’s Kong Quest expanded upon the game design that fans loved while keeping the jungle hijinx, masterful soundtrack, and weighted platforming intact.
That last part is what truly separates the middle installment of this franchise from the other two. Many people have said that these games were sometimes more style than substance, but after playing through the myriad of environments on display in DKC 2, it becomes clear that this title has endured over the years because its tight mechanics are executed at a high level.
3. Super Metroid
If this list were just a ranking of 2D games or if it encapsulated the entire SNES library regardless of genre, Super Metroid would most likely take the top spot. Alas, this icon of game design settles in the third spot because it isn’t the best example of a “pure platformer.” It’s more of an action/adventure affair, though the game’s platforming elements are still as satisfying now as they were in the 1990s.
What separates this game from so many that have tried to emulate it in the nearly three decades since release is that every ability upgrade and every part of the map fits together with nearly flawless foresight and execution. It’s never a hassle to re-explore a section that you’ve already seen. The game has a masterful flow that is incredibly modern and perhaps even more popular today because of the prominence of this design style on the indie game scene.
2. Super Mario World
With its flawless controls, colorful sprites, cheerful soundtrack, and ageless platforming, Super Mario World is the title that all other 2D games in the genre are still compared to. The extra graphical power of the SNES gave Nintendo the opportunity to expand upon Super Mario Bros. 3‘s best ideas while exploring new concepts that simply weren’t possible before.
That is why this game remains so playable. Super Mario World combines the most enjoyable elements of the NES Super Mario classics and then elevates them to fully realize the world that Miyamoto imagined when this basic concept was created. It still doesn’t make sense to have a plumber jumping on top of turtles and occasionally getting lost inside of a house full of ghosts (those damn Boo mansions still haunt me), but when you combine this much creativity into one package, you have no choice but to admit how special it all is.
1. Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island
Shigeru Miyamoto and his team knew that it was futile to try and surpass Super Mario World simply by emulating it. So when developing the sequel, they made the decision to craft an entirely different type of platformer in which Mario isn’t even the main protagonist. The concept was bold, but the execution needed to be flawless if the game was ever going to be more than another disappointing follow-up.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
It’s safe to say Yoshi’s Island exceeded all expectations. Putting Yoshi at the forefront of a platformer that included mini-games, evasion, puzzle-solving, item collection, and the most timeless color palette in gaming history was brilliance personified. Yoshi’s Island is not as famous as its older sibling, but its daring creativity and irreplaceable charm have inspired many to argue that it is the better game in retrospect. Whatever your opinion is, the fun and escapism of the green dinosaur’s finest hour (as well as the horrors of Baby Mario’s screams) will be remembered until the end of gaming.

Blakk’s DK stronghold is typically done in cool colors with sleek, industrial lines and clean, minimalistic styles, although he does favor green, so that’s probably here and there.  Left to his own devices though (and maybe some interior decoration hints), his ideal house would probably be decorated warmly, with a more natural, welcoming style of furniture.

Uhhh I do a terrible job of tracking what I did when.  Just about the time I started SWTOR, I created Blakk.
2. what inspired you to create them?
Blakk is the what-if Imperial universe version of my Jedi Knight Zakku’an.  The “what-if” brainstorming determined how his personality changed, and his appearance is the result of what I liked when changing Zak’s appearance with the character creator. XD
3. were they different when they were first created?
As Zak, he was very different.  More optimistic, friendly, and light-hearted.

He hates animals. Wolves.
2. do they like animals?

3. cats or dogs?
Neither? Both?
4. what’s their dream pet?
Since he’s never wanted a pet, he doesn’t have one.

Malys #Solo #OnRotation
Mentions @DamagedBrother
******
The Escalade carved up the night, a dark predator, just like those who occupied it. I’d felt almost guilty climbing into it instead of unlocking the mustang and letting her gallop down the open highway, but Butch was the pilot, and I wasn’t about to let anyone else behind the wheel just yet.
Staring out the window, I shifted in the seat. Dressed in what basically qualified as a uniform for the Black Dagger Brotherhood, I was still getting used to the all dark ensemble. The black wife beater, the dark leather coat, and holy fuck… can we talk about the leather pants? Sure, I don’t do ‘shorts’, and denim jeans were usually my choice of wardrobe, but these things were so tight I had /zero/ secrets anymore.
I was used to oggling Zsadist in them, not parading around myself. Every time I moved I felt like a cop was going to arrest me for indecent exposure.
“You guys always wear leather this tight?” I mutter, trying to adjust in the seat for what had to be the millionth time. In the driver’s seat, Butch seemed unnecessarily amused.
“You get used to it. And they wear in pretty quick. It’s the best thing for fighting out here.”
I muttered a few choice words that only had the Cop grinning a little wider. As he pulled up, I reluctantly followed suit in climbing out of the car. The cold air caressed every inch of me, and it felt doubly close with how tight these damn pants were.
My shit kickers ate up the pavement as we moved in sync together, leaving the car behind to venture down a side alley and into the grittier streets of Caldwell. I fought the impulse to stick my hands in my coat pockets, preferring them out and ready to use if we came across the enemy.
“So, missing the hunting life yet?”
I glanced sideways at my rotation partner. Butch didn’t look at me, his head instead on a swivel as he took in the night and breathed in the air, trying to find the Lessers before they found us.
“Well, I certainly wasn’t out looking like something from Magic Mike every night,” I grumbled, shaking my head, “but I there’s a level of ease to this that there wasn’t with hunting.”
“Ease?” Butch scoffed, looking surpremely unimpressed at my low level summation. “You think this is easy?”
“I think that when I ‘know’ what I’m hunting for, it certainly lowers the struggle factor,” I reply calmly, shrugging. “When you make an assumption about a death or a series of events that it ‘might’ be supernatural, you then gotta get there and figure out what ‘kind’ of thing it could be. There are levels to that shit, due diligence and whatever. But with this?”
I waved a hand at the alley, the street, the broken overhead lights and faint, echoing sounds of a car backfiring.
“I have to fight things that are strong, are basically like demons, and smell like the most heinous shit on earth. Honestly? Pretty fuckin’ easy to identify and deal with after the guessing games I’ve been used to playing,” I declare.
And of course, Butch didn’t really have a lot to say to that. He looked over at me with a ‘well… when you put it like that’ expression, and I grinned.
Then the wind shifted.
I almost gagged. My nose wrinkled as I turned on my heel, moving toward the mouth of the alley without giving it much thought. Butch matched my stride, all the training coming in handy right now as we approached in shadow and paused to get our bearings.
The two lessers were halfway down the next block, dark clothing offsetting their fading hair and features. At a glance these ones weren’t the same measure of ‘careless criminals’ like the last batch I’d dropped in on; these ones carried themselves differently. You could always tell who the real threats in a game were by the way they moved - predators always struggled to look like prey.
“So, next question, how do I get them from there, to here?” I muttered, eyes narrowing as I did a perfunctory sweep of the street either side. It was late, quiet and cold; the only other people or things out this late weren’t going to be the innocent, hard working average joe blows, if you know what I mean.
“I never did ask,” Butch replied softly, unsheathing one of his black daggers. “Can you fight with your wings out too?”
I shrugged, judging the distance and straightening up with a deep breath.
“Sure. We can do that in the gym next time. I’m gonna go get them.”
Butch froze.
“I beg your pardon?”
“Unless you wanna engage them in the middle of the street, we need them down the alley,” I explained, shucking my jacket, then the leather harness that holstered daggers and a gun. Butch looked like he was going to have a coronary as he leant in to grab my hand and hold me in place, hissing.
“And that translates into you stripping ‘how’?”
I glanced down. In a black wife beater and leather pants, I looked like I was coming from some sort of rave party. All I had to do was play it up.
“Will you trust me? Just…” I brushed his hand off and set my jacket further down the alley, my harness on top, blades out and ready to be snatched up. “I’m going to get them down here, and as soon as they’re in the alley, unleash hell. You take one, I’ll take the other.”
“I don’t like this.”
“You’ve made that real clear, but think about it,” I murmured, peering back out to make sure they hadn’t moved. “If they get too close I can always take off, right?”
Butch made a series of sounds that were suspiciously similar to ‘duck’ and ‘hunt’. I grinned a little wider, bracing myself to walk out.
“Here I was thinking that being only half angel would make you more tolerable than Lassiter…”
I had to fight not to laugh as I emerged from the alley, keeping my head down and wrapping my arms around myself like I was cold. In reality, the adrenaline surging through my system was definitely keeping the cold at bay. Making my way down the street, the pair didn’t glance at me until I was a few meters out. Not ideal. But I glanced up as they did, and purposefully froze.
They watched me, eyes narrowing, and as I took a deliberate inhale, I let my eyes widen, my arms dropping as I took a panicked step back. They twigged. As they took a step toward me I hissed, baring my teeth and fangs, then turned and bolted. I heard the thunder of their pursuit as I beelined it for the alley.
As I burst through the mouth they were half a second behind me, the pair faster, stronger, than even their faded hair led me to believe. But Butch was there. He let the first one pass, then reached out from the shadows to clothesline the second. I reached my daggers a second before the Lesser reached me. It slammed into me as my hand closed around the hilt, and down we went.
I let the momentum drive us into a roll, more concerned about what nasty shit was in this alley, going on my back, then the Lesser that tried to shank me. As we came out of the roll I pushed him off, but like I said, these two weren’t newbies. He recovered as fast as I did, the pair of us coming up to engage in a flurry of hand movements. Butch was having the same kind of fun.
Out of the corner of my eye I could see the Brother evading the Lessers aggressive haymakers, a blade clutched in his fist that kept angling for the Brothers head. Then I was too distracted by my Lesser nicking my arm as I danced back. I didn’t even feel the lick of fire up my arm, laughing instead and throwing the omega spawn for a dizzy as he paused, surprised.
I used the moment. I lunged forward, feeling the blade again against my side as I pushed through his guard to drive my blade under his ribs and up.
POP.
Light burst in front of me as the thing disappeared, its blade clattering to the pavement as I whirled. Butch wasn’t far behind, sweeping the legs out from under his and driving his blade straight through it’s throat, severing the spine. It went limp, black blood gurgling around the blade as its head twitched to and fro.
“That’s fucked up,” I muttered, shaking my head as I wiped my own blade off on the leathers and reached for my harness.
“You hurt?” Butch panted.
“Couple of nicks. Nothing major. I’ve had worse papercuts,” I joked, slinging my jacket back around my shoulders and grinning as I walked over. Besides, a little time in the sun in the morning and it’d be like it never happened. “You finishing that one or…?”
Butch grimaced, sheathing his dagger as he looked the Lesser over.
“This one was strong. I think I need to deal with the problem. Thing is, you good to drive us back? Once I inhale this fucker I’m gonna need to head back to V.”
Oh right. The Dhestroyer thing. Hey, these things smelled so rancid that if Butch could actually inhale their essence? More power to him. The idea made me wanna upchuck.
“I can drive,” I agree, folding my arms. “You do whatever you wanna do, n’ I’ll be here. Push comes to shove I’ll fly your ass home,” I add, wondering how Zsadist might feel about that.
Then there was the fact I was coming back a little… bloody. The male was going to growl at me, I just knew it.
Watching Butch drop to one knee and wrench his blade out of the demon spawn’s throat, I felt a new level of fascination as I witnessed the male inhale the Lesser, winking it out of all existence. It was now even beyond the Omega’s reach, a little bit more of his power gone from the world.
Sweeeeeeet.
Helping the male back to the car, I slid into the driver’s seat and missed my own baby all over again. If this was gonna be a regular thing, we were /so/ taking my car next time. The Escalade was just too much ‘gangster’ for this angel.
Butch weakly flipped me off as I said as much.

Chapter One: Drink, Snort and Blow
Description: A tale of two young, haywire carousers and their turbulent relationship. Party girl Angelica Davis likes to think she has a love for chaos, but, perhaps the chaos of new-found love Nikki Sixx is just too much to handle.
Word Count: 1,922
Warnings: Language, mentions of drugs, sex and alcohol.

Notes: Alrighty, here’s chapter one of something I probably won’t update whatsoever! Jks, I’ll try by best, but like, no promises. Also this is the first thing I’ve written as part of this fandom so I’m pretty nervous about that, too! Anyways, enjoy <3
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Loud and messy; the only motto twenty-one year old Angelica Davis seemed to live by. And a Saturday night on the strip was certainly that. Fuck, any night on the strip was like that. You could hear the music blaring, bottles smashing and crowd cheering from miles out. And that’s what made it home.
It was already well past one, and Angelica - along with her two roommates - had drank, snorted and blown everything they could in the last three clubs they’d been in. The girls weren’t exactly the shy type. Maybe that’s why boys took a shining to them, Angelica in particular.
The trio had built themselves a reputation on the strip as a gang of chaotic revellers. Their faces were well-known on the scene - much to the girls’ enjoyment of course. They danced with the devils of the night and laughed about it every waking moment. However, their disorderly behaviour did get them into some trouble from time to time, and tonight was no different.
Cut to the three girls racing down a side road just off of the strip; mannequin and car-keys in hand - and an angry chubby man chasing the wind behind them.
“You fucking bastards!” The man screamed at the girls breathlessly. The belt of his black dressing gown trailed behind him on the wet ground as the man finally slowed his pace. “I’m calling the cops! You better watch your asses!”
The girls continued running, giggling and wheezing as they turned another corner - this time out of sight of their victim. Angelica looked back and, realising the man was no longer chasing them, came to a halt. Man, mannequins were fucking heavy.
“Here,” she took the male figure off her black leather-wrapped shoulders and nodded at Valerie to take over. After Val hesitantly took the model, Angelica rearranged her hair and looked on at a coughing Nancy bent over in a squat-like position. She patted her wheezing roommate softly on the back, all while a proud grin spread across her face.
“Where the fuck even are we, man?” Valerie asked the girls after steadying the mannequin on her bony shoulders. The three looked around them, a look of confusion etching its way onto their faces. The road was dark; no streetlights could guide them out of this one.
Angelica laughed, “Don’t have a clue, let’s just keep walking. There’ll be a party somewhere along the way.” They looked at each other, nodded in agreement and began to walk down the damp sidewalk.
The girls walked for a short while, twenty minutes maybe, all while discussing their recent stolen gems. It wasn’t completely unusual for the girls to go knocking on doors asking men to ‘take them home’ after a night on the strip. Though, usually they’d get the man to drive around for a bit until the girls found an interesting enough party to go to. Either that or one of them would let him fuck her and then they’d bale. Depends what kind of a night they were having. And what kind of guy they picked up.
Though, when Nancy saw the mannequin in the back of this guy’s car she couldn’t resist taking it. And as per, the other two followed suit. Just so happens that this time ‘following suit’ meant Valerie flirtatiously distracting the man enough to let Angelica steal his car keys. They had planned to somehow get him out of his car and drive off, but that was a bit too far fetched - even for them. Instead, the minute Valerie stopped palming the guy through his robe he realised his keys were missing and began throwing a fit.
A few twists in the road later, and the girls were met by a friendly face outside of an all-familiar apartment building. Despite not being entirely sure on how they got here, the girls were glad to be somewhere they knew they could chill out for a bit.
“Hey T-bone,” Angelica took her hands out of her pockets to give her fuck-buddy a hug. Well, they’d only fucked once - and it was just after Tommy had broken up with his girl of the month. Poor Tommy; the man falls in love way too fast and way, way too hard. She took care not to spill the bottle of beer he held in his hand.
“What’s up, Angel? What’s with the mannequin?” He laughed and pointed at Val - the blonde now visibly struggling to keep it on her shoulders any longer.
“Stole it from a randomer near the strip. Think it’ll be a fun addition to your apartment?” Angelica chittered slightly, the early morning air was getting to her and the blood-thinning alcohol certainly didn’t help her case.
“Yeah. Listen, you guys wanna come in for a bit?” Tommy nodded over at Nancy. She was using her long brown hair as a shield from the spring winds that hit from the side of the building. “Come meet the new band members.” He had a proud smile printed on his face as he scratched his chest with his one empty hand.
“Oh, so you’ve got yourself a band now have you?” Angelica chuckled lightly as she took Tommy’s beer bottle from his grasp and sipped on it, “We’ll go up for a bit.” With that, she kissed Tommy lightly on the cheek and motioned for the girls to follow her up the fire-escape stairs. Valerie decided against taking the mannequin, of course. It now lay discarded on the sidewalk. However, the stolen keys still made an outline in the back pocket of Angelica’s black leather trousers.
“You’ll have to use the window!” The girls heard Tommy shout up at them. The music was pretty loud, and people decorated the staircase like stray cats. After crawling in the white paint-chipped window, the three split up.
Each of them had a different game plan when they went out; for Nancy, it was finding the best drugs the place had to offer and sucking up to whoever dealt them. Usually she managed to score something for free, or for a blow job. But that basically meant free anyways..right?
Valerie chose a different route; mainly deciding to hang out with girls and talk about nails, hair, sex...you know, the usual girly chat. It was somewhat of a guilty pleasure of hers - the other two roommates weren’t the most feminine in those respects, so she enjoyed conversing about the magazine gossip every now and then.
And Angelica, well, she could do pretty much anything she wanted. Apart from joining in on Valerie’s chats. Most of the more ‘generic’ girls on the strip didn’t tend to like her. They were mainly just jealous over the fact that every man that walked through the door would undoubtedly drool at the sight of Angelica and not them. What can she say? Teased purple hair was definitely an attention-grabber.
She settled herself in the kitchen, grabbing a bottle of Jack from the grimey white worktop. She looked around for familiar faces, but to no avail. She leaned over the countertop and overlooked the living-room area in front of her, holding the bottle of whiskey up to her lips and slowly chugging it. If all else fails, drink.
“Excuse me!” Angelica spun herself round, feeling a tap on her lower back and a slurred shout in her ear. A guy - maybe early twenties - was in the traditional marriage proposal position, only this time there was no ring. In its place was a small silver tray with a couple lines on it and a straw. Angelica grinned. Finally, someone was speaking her damn language.
“Would you be so kind as to...” The man slurred his words as he motioned down at the tray before him. He looked up at Angelica, though his eyes were mostly covered by overly-teased jet black hair, so it was hard for her to tell if he was really looking at her or not.
“Why of course, my love.” The slightly buzzed reveller immediately picked up the straw from the glimmering tray and began vacuuming up the white mess before her.
She threw her head back, rubbing the end of her nose and grabbing onto the stranger’s shoulders for support.
She grinned as she saw the man below her slowly stand up in appreciation of her skills. It was as though he was speechless, so Angelica took the initiative to put her hand out for him to shake.
“Angelica.” She stated. The stranger didn’t shake her hand, rather he kissed her knuckles and afterwards placed her palm on his bare chest. His red unbuttoned shirt barely covered anything. Angelica looked down at his chest, her eyes zoning in on where his hand covered hers.
“Nikki.” He looked at her dilated pupils and matched her smile. His hair had shifted slightly from when he was in the proposal position, making it easier for Angelica to identify his features. He was attractive - undoubtedly and deadly.
“Well, it’s nice to meet you,” she licked her red painted lips, “Nikki.” The taller boy took a step closer to her, their bodies now almost stuck together with sweat.
“I’ve got more where that came from,” He motioned towards the now discarded silver tray that sat next to Angelica’s empty bottle of Jack on the countertop. “If you would just follow me back there.” Nikki spoke seductively and pointed to what the girl could only assume was his bedroom. Well, one thing’s for sure. He was not offering her drugs, rather, something much more enticing.
Drugs and sex? Fuck, this man was golden. She nodded and grabbed Nikki’s hand, lacing their fingers and letting it fall to their sides. He smirked and began guiding her through the sea of people surrounding them. Only then did Angelica become aware once again that, yes, there were more than just her and Nikki there. God, she must be out of it for a real one tonight.
He fumbled with his door handle, though with no success. She figured someone must’ve jammed it shut from the other side. Someone who probably had the same intentions her and Nikki did.
“Bathroom.” The girl ordered, needy.
And so he led her there. It felt like time was moving in slow motion; every passing second and every hungry glance the two shared was drawn out. Eventually, Nikki opened the bathroom door hastily, locking it once Angelica had stepped inside.
Immediately, he pressed her up against the door and attached himself to her lips. She moaned into the kiss as his tongue entered her mouth. Fuck. Their hands roamed each other’s bodies; Nikki fumbling with her leather jacket and Angelica attempting to slide his shirt off of his broad shoulders.
The two momentarily broke the kiss to catch a breath, giving Nikki the opportunity to lift Angelica’s t-shirt over her head and discard it on the floor along with the few other articles of clothing already missing from their bodies. Their movements were rushed, almost as though they would never get this time again. Angelica smiled hungrily and put her arms around Nikki’s neck, dragging her freshly painted black nails along the bottom of his hairline. Nikki didn’t waste any more time, and after staring at her blown pupils for a few seconds, dove into her neck.
Angelica bit her lip in an attempt to be quiet. Though, she soon lost any sense of power over her body. She threw her head back and moaned loudly, smiling in ecstasy. Let the good times fucking roll.

Resin Bodied Wet Flies Part II
I received numerous requests for additional information about the Resin Bodied Wet Flies I wrote about in my last blog post. I thought I would do a follow-up post explaining how I tie these patterns and share some of my favorite tying recipes. I have been fishing this style of fly for many years, but before UV resins came on the scene, they were created using 5-minute epoxy. Using 5-minute epoxy is still an option, but I have abandoned it in favor of UV resin.
There are many UV resins on the market available to the fly tier. While I have not tried them all, I have tried quite a few of them. I have settled on Solarez Products as my UV resin of choice. Solarez makes a UV resin for every application, and I use it exclusively in my fly tying. The resin used in the creation of these wet flies is Solarez Bone Dry. Bone Dry has some unique characteristics that make it ideal for these patterns. Solarez Bone Dry is an ultra-thin UV resin. It goes on like a thin head cement, and I often use it for that purpose on my flies as it leaves a durable, smooth, high gloss finish on the thread wraps at the head of the fly. The most important feature of this product is the fact that it dries in seconds when exposed to UV light, and it dries with a 100 percent tack-free, high gloss finish. I have been using this product fo a few years now, and I have observed no yellowing, fading, or cracking of the finish on flies that have been around since I first started using it.
Tying The Resin Bodied Wet Fly
Tying the resin Bodied wet fly is pretty straight forward. The use of UV resin has made the process even easier. When I used epoxy in the past, I would tie up a bunch of partially completed flies (bodies only), treat them with the epoxy, and set them on a wheel to dry. Using UV resin allows me to complete the fly in the vise, which saves a lot of time and eliminates a few steps in the tying procedure.
The Hook
I am always asked about the specific hook I use on all of the patterns that I tie. For the Resin Bodied Wet Fly, I like a standard wet fly hook. There are a lot of good options to choose from, but I have fallen in love with the Firehole Stick #633 by Firehole Outdoors. This nymph/wet hook is a 1x long 2x heavy hook that is perfect for wet flies and nymphs tied without a bead (I prefer a longer hook when using beads on nymph patterns). The 2x heavy hook breaks through the surface film quickly and helps get the fly down to the fish. The heavier hook also holds up well when a good bass inevitably grabs the fly as they often do. I am always amazed at the size of some of the largemouth bass I catch on tiny wet flies! One thing to note is that the Fire Stick #633 and all Firehole Outdoors hooks for that matter are barbless. I prefer barbless hooks on all of the flies I tie for myself, but I have customers that want flies tied on barbed hooks. I highly recommend this hook, and those anglers who only fish barbed hooks should consider giving it a try.
Creating the Resin Body
The most important thing to remember about this pattern is to create the body and apply the UV resin before adding the hackle and thorax. This step will eliminate the possibility of the resin getting on the fibers of the thorax and hackle. I usually use two different threads when tying these patterns. I prefer a more substantial thread to quickly build a tapered body and a finer thread for finishing the head. If you are careful with your thread wraps, you can get away with using a 140 denier thread as a compromise. Using a few more wraps to form the body and a few less to create the head of the fly, you can turn out a fantastic looking fly without changing threads.
You have a few options when building the body. You can use thread alone with or without a contrasting rib to create a great looking body. You can also wrap a single layer of crystal flash or smoother flash material if you want to create a body with a little bling. Remember that you will be adding a layer of UV resin to the fly, so keep the shape of the fly on the thin side, so you don’t create a bulky looking fly unless, of course, that is what you are looking for.
Another tip is not to crowd the hook eye. Give yourself adequate room to finish the fly after you apply the resin. It is also essential to keep the resin away from the area of the hook that you will be tying in the hackle. You will always get better-looking results tying in your hackle on a bare hook shank or one covered with only a single layer of thread.
As stated earlier, I use Solarez Bone Dry to coat the body of the fly. Solarez comes in a glass bottle with a brush applicator. Usually, the first thing I do when opening a new bottle of Bone Dry is to take a pair of scissors to the brush to thin it out a bit. Trimming the brush is an excellent idea if you tie a lot of small flies. Leave the brush as it is if you primarily tie big stuff. At the moment, I am using a prototype plastic bottle with a fine metal needle tip applicator. This bottle is my new favorite method of applying UV resin of this nature. I hope Solarez offers this bottle option to everyone in the future. Are you listening Solarez?
Solarez Bone Dry has a peculiar characteristic that I have to mention. When Solarez Bone Dry is exposed to colder temperatures (below 55 degrees, I believe), it begins to crystallize, making it unusable. Fortunately, this is remedied by warming it up. I usually stick the opened bottle in the microwave for a few minutes, and it is restored to its proper state. Another method, which I use when tying on the road at various fly fishing shows during the winter, is to stick the sealed bottle in a glass of hot water. It takes a little longer, but once the resin warms, it will be entirely restored. Just make sure the container is correctly sealed or only submerge it to the level of the cap.
Once you have created a body of thread or flash material, give it a light coating of Bone Dry resin. Go sparingly at first until you get a feel for how much resin is needed. A rotary vice is real handy here as you can rotate the fly to keep the resin from sagging before hitting it with UV light and setting the resin. After applying a drop or two of resin, I spread it around with a dubbing needle or the metal stem on the new bottle to evenly distribute it before curing it. The resin sets in seconds when exposed to the UV light.
Finishing The Fly
Now that your body is done, its time to finish the fly. I tie a lot of soft hackles with this style body, but nothing says you can’t use it for winged wets as well. You can get as simple or elaborate as you want. You can finish the fly with a few turns of hackle and call it finished. Tie them sparse or heavily hackled; the choice is yours, both styles have their uses. For hackle, I like hen hackle and feathers from game birds like partridge, grouse, and pheasant. I also use rooster hackle, specifically the hackle found on Ewing Feather Bird Deceiver Patches. This versatile hackle has a lot of uses outside of deceiver style streamers. I use it for hackle on poppers and bass bugs as well as larger wet flies. It has the perfect combination of stiffness and flexibility, and I like the way it looks on larger wet flies.
You can add a little more detail, a change in profile, and perhaps a little bit of contrast by adding a thorax before winding on the feather. I use a variety of dubbing and chenilles to create thoraxes on wet flies. A thorax will help keep the feather more upright when being retrieved through the water. It also presents an opportunity to add a hot spot to your fly by adding a thorax of brightly colored dubbing or chenille. You can also add a hot spot by finishing the head of the fly with brightly colored thread. You can use that same Bone Dry Resin to finish the head instead of head cement to get a smooth, durable, high gloss head on your fly.
Recycling At Its Best
Flies tied in this fashion are incredibly durable and will stand up to a lot of fish. Eventually, the hackle and thorax will get beat up, possibly being stripped off entirely if your not careful with those forceps when removing the flies from the fish’s mouth. Don’t discard that fly! Chances are the body is in perfect condition! Bring it back to your fly tying bench and add a fresh turn of hackle. I usually use a sharp knife to trim away the old head, then add new dubbing and hackle, and it is off to the races again!
Recipes for Killer Soft Hackles
When it comes to panfish, there is no limit to the color combinations that can be used to catch fish. Wet flies have a long tradition of being tied to match specific hatches as well as being tied as gaudy, colorful attractors. I consider both approaches when adding a fresh batch of wet flies/soft hackles to my fly boxes. I encourage you to experiment with your designs and color combinations. Please be sure to share your successes with me!

How to install a powered subwoofer No matter what kind of music you love, adding bass makes it sound better. Let's take a look at what it takes to install a powered subwoofer in your vehicle with the help of one of our guys from tech support. Find a place to mount your sub Before you get started, find a suitable place in your vehicle to mount your sub. The sub’s built-in amplifier generates heat, so adequate ventilation is important. And you'll want to place it somewhere that's not too difficult to access. Wiring kit and speaker wire Your powered sub does not come with the necessary wiring, so be sure to purchase an amp wiring kit that includes the wiring and fuses you'll need. Disconnect the battery First, disconnect the negative battery terminal to protect you and your gear during installation. Step #1: Running power wire Next, run the power cable from the battery to the powered sub. Some kits have the fuse assembly already put together. But if not, cut a short piece of the power cable, enough to cover the distance from the battery to the fuse holder location, and strip the insulation off both ends. Crimp the terminal ring from your wiring kit to one end, and attach the fuse holder to the other end. Strip the insulation from the end of the wire that leads to your amp and attach it to the other end of your fuse holder. It’s important to keep the fuse close to the battery since the lead between the terminal and the fuse is unprotected. In most vehicles, you can pass the power cable through the firewall that separates the engine compartment from the main cabin using an existing entry point. Once you're inside the cabin, tuck the power cable under trim panels or your carpet along one side of your vehicle until you reach your powered sub location. Step #2: Running turn-on wire and signal cables After running the power wire, the next thing to do is run the turn-on wire and signal cables. Both the turn-on wire and RCA signal cables need to be connected to your stereo. Run these cables behind the dash to your stereo. The turn-on wire connects to a remote turn-on wire in your stereo's wiring harness. It's usually blue, but confirm this with your owner's manual. Plug the RCA cables into the appropriate RCA outputs on your stereo. Run these wires, the turn-on wire, and the RCA cable, down the opposite side of the car from the power wire. This will prevent electrical noise from entering your system and spoiling your music. All of this assumes you have an aftermarket stereo with preamp outputs. If you have a factory stereo then you'll get the signal to your powered sub a different way. You’ll want to make sure your amp has speaker-level inputs and "signal sensing" turn-on capability. In this case, you can just tap into the speaker wires behind your stereo, or possibly the rear deck speakers. Either way, this will get a signal to the powered sub’s built-in amp. Step #3: Connect the ground wire The third primary connection is the ground wire. This wire should be connected to the vehicle's chassis. Look for a nearby bolt that you can fasten the ground cable to. The ground wire terminal should be in contact with the vehicle's bare metal. Everything You Need to Know About Car Powered Subwoofers Car powered subwoofers solve a great number of problems for many vehicle applications. In this post, I’ll explain the details of them, pros and cons, and finally I have a list of 5 great choices I recommend for you. Not everyone needs (or wants) a more permanent amp + speaker box installation. Additionally, they offer a compact and tidy way to add good bass sound in a limited space in many cars, trucks, jeeps, and more. Car powered subwoofer basics Car Powered Subwoofer Installation Service near Austin TX: Many vehicles over the years (even as far back as the 1980s) have had factory-installed powered woofers in their premium level sound system. Typically this was because of the extremely limited space in some of the smaller vehicles produced over the years. Unfortunately, while those provided a bass boost, they were low-power and low-volume bass devices. Many would begin to distort quickly under higher volume. You’re no longer stuck with using a cylindrical powered speaker tube like the Bazooka brand that was once popular. Additionally, new speaker and amplifier technology has made it possible to get far better sound in a very compact size than ever before! How they work Car powered subwoofers are more specialized than standard mix-and-match aftermarket subwoofers, amps, and boxes. The most critical difference is that in order to produce bass in a small space, these are carefully designed to match a subwoofer to the speaker enclosure. In other words the subwoofer is carefully matched to the small enclosure it will be used in. Each type of speaker has a set of particular parameters that allow a designer to determine how it will perform acoustically in different sizes and types of speaker enclosures. These are called Thiele-Small parameters. I’ve used them frequently in custom speaker projects of my own; they're extremely valuable to avoid guessing if a speaker will perform well in a certain size box or not. Additionally, they’re different in other ways too: ● A special-purpose amplifier is built-in ● Amp rated power is designed only to support the speaker used ● A low-pass crossover is normally used (with adjustable controls) ● The assembly is a single product, with all installation connections made in one central area ● They are often designed to complement factory stereos easily A reduced-size, reduced power amplifier designed just for the product is built into the design and this reduces cost as well (since you won’t normally need extra channels of sound or extra features, for example). More often than not a car powered subwoofer is designed to be very modular and can be installed as a single piece of equipment aside from an option like a wired remote knob. Installation problems they solve As you probably already know, the average factory installed car stereo has poor bass. Space is very limited in vehicles like some small pickup trucks, Mazda Miatas, and other sports cars, and perhaps even the family minivan! They’re fantastic for a number of applications: ● Adding good sound to lower-end factory stereo systems ● Having an all-in-one solution for do it yourself (DIY) car audio projects on a budget ● Leased vehicles in which you would like to keep your audio investment at the end of lease ● Vehicles like Jeeps or other open-air vehicles that may be prone to theft and a removable solution is best ● A simplified and budget-priced way to shop for a subwoofer system for those with less experience Another great benefit is that they save on installation time and effort! There’s no need to have to figure out how you’ll mount a separate amplifier and so forth. It’s not an issue! Benefits of a Subwoofer for Car Improve your car's sound system. The main benefit of a subwoofer is its ability to produce low-frequency sounds. Your usual, small car speakers often have difficulty making these sounds. No matter what kind of music you listen to, choosing a top of the line subwoofer can take your listening experience up a notch. Take it anywhere. Unlike other additions to your car’s sound system, a subwoofer can go practically anywhere. You can put one in your trunk, under your seat, or even just in the back seat. They don’t have the same space constraints as other sound components. Types of Subwoofers for Cars Component Subwoofers Component subwoofers only come with the speaker itself. All other components must be bought separately. This is good for those who want to personalize their subwoofer and build it from the ground up. Many component subwoofers vary quite a bit from model to model. You can pretty much find whatever you're looking for in this category. You will need to choose and buy other equipment for them to work properly. Enclosed Subwoofer An enclosed car subwoofer is simply a speaker that comes already put into a box. With these subwoofers, you don't have to worry about selecting an enclosure separately. But, you might find yourself with fewer options than if you had chosen to build your system from the ground up. You will also still need an external amplifier to power the whole thing. Active Subwoofers Also called powered subwoofers, these are just like enclosed subwoofers but with an amp built right into the box. These work wonderfully in tight spaces and don't require any extra work on your part. They are also simpler and easier to install since everything you need is included in one piece. You don’t have to worry about installing an amplifier separately. However, they are usually smaller and more compact. This can make them unable to deliver high-quality sounds. These systems work best for those who just want an add on to their stereo or who don't have enough room for a bigger system. TIPS Car Powered Subwoofer Installation Service near Austin TX: ● If you want to make the installation as easy as possible, we recommend choosing a powered subwoofer. With one of these, you won't have to worry about installing an amplifier as well. ● If you're looking for a very specific setup, we recommend choosing an amplifier, enclosure, and speaker separately. ● Make sure any amplifier you get is compatible with your subwoofer. ● Choose a place for your subwoofer and measure it before you start shopping. Then, you'll know exactly how much room you have. ● Remember, if a subwoofer doesn't come with an enclosure, you'll still have to buy one. This can increase the price quite a bit. You'll also need an amplifier to power the system. It is very difficult to find a complete system that produces quality sound at this price point. In general, you get what you pay for.
COST Subwoofer for Car Pricing Car Powered Subwoofer Installation Service near Austin TX: Under $100: These car subwoofers usually only include the speaker itself or produce low-quality sound. Typically, you aren’t going to find any high-quality subwoofers in this price range. $100 - $200: This is where most of the average subwoofers are. Many will come with an enclosure, but you can also find high-quality speakers at this price range without one. Over $200: Once you pass the $200 mark, you reach the zone of complete car subwoofer kits. Most of these kits come with everything you need to produce a high-quality bass in your car. If you aren't looking to personalize your system and just want a kit already put together, expect to spend about this much money. Hiring a technician to install subwoofers Vendors charge around $100 to install a subwoofer, but the cost will run over $300 for complicated installation work. Better still is to purchase some or all of your components, including the subwoofer, from a dealer who will install it for you as part of the purchase price. Active Subwoofer Installation $120.00 - $165.00 Subwoofer Box Installation $60.00 - $85.00
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS What Subwoofer Size Should I Get? On average, bigger car subwoofers produce better sound. Of course, this isn't always the case. The exact sound produced also depends a lot on the quality of the subwoofer enclosure. Still, it is usually a good idea to purchase as big of a car subwoofer as your car can handle. It is impossible for a small subwoofer with a quality enclosure to produce the same sound as a big car subwoofer with a quality subwoofer enclosure.
How Much Does It Cost To Put A Subwoofer In Your Car? You should plan on spending at least $200 on a high-quality, average-sized subwoofer. This includes the subwoofer enclosure, speaker, and amplifier. It is possible to find small, compact subwoofers for less. These will not sound as good as the larger subwoofers, though, but they often work better for smaller cars. Depending on what you're looking for, you might have to spend more money on a subwoofer, especially if you want one with lots of power or a unique sound.
How Do I Upgrade My Car Audio? One of the easiest and most straightforward ways to upgrade your car's stereo is with a car subwoofer. Because car speakers are small, they have a hard time producing low-frequency sounds. A car subwoofer is designed to produce these sounds. Even if you don't necessarily listen to music with a lot of bass, a subwoofer can help produce those low-frequency sounds your car is probably missing.
Which subwoofer will sound the loudest? If you're looking for the sub that will deliver maximum SPL (play loudest), you need to consider sensitivity, enclosure type, and available power. Start with a subwoofer with a high efficiency (sensitivity) rating housed in a ported or band pass box. Next, power the sub with an amplifier that has a power output that is within your sub's recommended power range (preferably in the top third of that range) or slightly higher. You'll achieve the slam you're listening for. Using an amplifier with a bass boost control can also help.
Which subwoofer will sound the deepest? To experience the lowest possible bass tones, select a large woofer designed for use in a sealed box. This type of enclosure is your best bet for driving your frequency response down. Ample wattage is also a must if you want to hear those lowest bass notes. A woofer with a very low frequency response spec can help deliver extremely low notes. Additionally, larger woofers, because of their size and excursion capabilities, often have the ability to play deeper than smaller woofers.
If I put my subwoofer box in the trunk, will I be able to hear the bass? Absolutely. The only situation that might prevent you from hearing bass from a trunk-mounted box would be if your trunk is sealed and soundproofed. Usually, bass travels easily through the materials separating the trunk from the passenger compartment. If you think you're missing out on bass because your seat back and rear deck material are blocking the sound waves, you can alleviate the problem by punching a few small holes in the rear deck and covering it with an acoustically transparent material.
What factors affect subwoofer performance ? Almost all of the following can affect your car subwoofers performance : ● Sensitivity ● Frequency response ● Cone build material ● Enclosure Type

How to install a powered subwoofer
No matter what kind of music you love, adding bass makes it sound better. Let's take a look at what it takes to install a powered subwoofer in your vehicle with the help of one of our guys from tech support.
Find a place to mount your sub
Before you get started, find a suitable place in your vehicle to mount your sub. The sub’s built-in amplifier generates heat, so adequate ventilation is important. And you'll want to place it somewhere that's not too difficult to access.
Wiring kit and speaker wire
Your powered sub does not come with the necessary wiring, so be sure to purchase an amp wiring kit that includes the wiring and fuses you'll need.
Disconnect the battery
First, disconnect the negative battery terminal to protect you and your gear during installation.
Step #1: Running power wire
Next, run the power cable from the battery to the powered sub.
Step #2: Running turn-on wire and signal cables
After running the power wire, the next thing to do is run the turn-on wire and signal cables.
Step #3: Connect the ground wire
The third primary connection is the ground wire. This wire should be connected to the vehicle's chassis. Look for a nearby bolt that you can fasten the ground cable to. The ground wire terminal should be in contact with the vehicle's bare metal. Sand away any paint at the contact point for the best connection.
Step #4: Make your wiring connections
Now, mount your powered sub and make your connections. Try to use gentle curves with your wires and cables when possible to prevent unnecessary wear and tear.
Before you fire it up to test, turn the built-in amp's gains all the way down. And reconnect your vehicle's negative battery terminal. Verify that the sub turns on when you start the car. Then you can play some music and set your gains.
Everything You Need to Know About Car Powered Subwoofers
Car powered subwoofers solve a great number of problems for many vehicle applications.
Car powered subwoofer basics
Car Powered Subwoofer Installation Service near Albuquerque NM:Many vehicles over the years (even as far back as the 1980s) have had factory-installed powered woofers in their premium level sound system. Typically this was because of the extremely limited space in some of the smaller vehicles produced over the years.Unfortunately, while those provided a bass boost, they were low-power and low-volume bass devices. Many would begin to distort quickly under higher volume.
You’re no longer stuck with using a cylindrical powered speaker tube like the Bazooka brand that was once popular. Additionally, new speaker and amplifier technology has made it possible to get far better sound in a very compact size than ever before!
How they work
Car powered subwoofers are more specialized than standard mix-and-match aftermarket subwoofers, amps, and boxes.
Additionally, they’re different in other ways too:
●      A special-purpose amplifier is built-in
●      Amp rated power is designed only to support the speaker used
●      A low-pass crossover is normally used (with adjustable controls)
●      The assembly is a single product, with all installation connections made in one central area
●      They are often designed to complement factory stereos easily
A reduced-size, reduced power amplifier designed just for the product is built into the design and this reduces cost as well (since you won’t normally need extra channels of sound or extra features, for example). More often than not a car powered subwoofer is designed to be very modular and can be installed as a single piece of equipment aside from an option like a wired remote knob.
Installation problems they solve
As you probably already know, the average factory installed car stereo has poor bass. Space is very limited in vehicles like some small pickup trucks, Mazda Miatas, and other sports cars, and perhaps even the family minivan!
They’re fantastic for a number of applications:
●      Adding good sound to lower-end factory stereo systems
●      Having an all-in-one solution for do it yourself (DIY) car audio projects on a budget
●      Leased vehicles in which you would like to keep your audio investment at the end of lease
●      Vehicles like Jeeps or other open-air vehicles that may be prone to theft and a removable solution is best
●      A simplified and budget-priced way to shop for a subwoofer system for those with less experience
Another great benefit is that they save on installation time and effort! There’s no need to have to figure out how you’ll mount a separate amplifier and so forth. It’s not an issue!

Step #2: Running turn-on wire and signal cables
After running the power wire, the next thing to do is run the turn-on wire and signal cables.
Car powered subwoofer basics
Car Powered Subwoofer Installation Service near Omaha NE: Many vehicles over the years (even as far back as the 1980s) have had factory-installed powered woofers in their premium level sound system.
How they work
Car powered subwoofers are more specialized than standard mix-and-match aftermarket subwoofers, amps, and boxes.
Benefits of a Subwoofer for Car
Improve your car's sound system.
Types of Subwoofers for Cars
Component Subwoofers
Component subwoofers only come with the speaker itself. All other components must be bought separately. This is good for those who want to personalize their subwoofer and build it from the ground up. Many component subwoofers vary quite a bit from model to model. You can pretty much find whatever you're looking for in this category. You will need to choose and buy other equipment for them to work properly.
Enclosed Subwoofer
An enclosed car subwoofer is simply a speaker that comes already put into a box. With these subwoofers, you don't have to worry about selecting an enclosure separately. But, you might find yourself with fewer options than if you had chosen to build your system from the ground up. You will also still need an external amplifier to power the whole thing.
Active Subwoofers
Also called powered subwoofers, these are just like enclosed subwoofers but with an amp built right into the box.
TIPS
Car Powered Subwoofer Installation Service near Omaha NE:
●      If you want to make the installation as easy as possible, we recommend choosing a powered subwoofer.
 COST
Subwoofer for Car Pricing
Car Powered Subwoofer Installation Service near Omaha NE:
Under $100: These car subwoofers usually only include the speaker itself or produce low-quality sound.
Hiring a technician to install subwoofers
Vendors charge around $100 to install a subwoofer, but the cost will run over $300 for complicated installation work. Better still is to purchase some or all of your components, including the subwoofer, from a dealer who will install it for you as part of the purchase price.
Active Subwoofer Installation                 $120.00 - $165.00
Subwoofer Box Installation                     $60.00 - $85.00
 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What Subwoofer Size Should I Get?
Almost all of the following can affect your car subwoofers performance :
●      Sensitivity
●      Frequency response
●      Cone build material
●      Enclosure Type

Review: Spyro Reignited Trilogy
Come on baby, light my fire
There are plenty of things in Britain that aren’t strong. The pound, the economy, my intestinal lining. But one thing that remains rock solid is our apparent nostalgia for the original PlayStation console. The launch of the PS1 was the moment that Britain apparently decided it wasn’t “dorky” to play video games, thanks to trendy marketing tactics by Sony and a lot of demo pods in expensive nightclubs.
As such, games like Crash Bandicoot, PaRappa the Rapper, and other cutesy characters, that your average Terry would have balked at in ’93 as “for little kids”, were now super-cool icons for the late teen/early 20’s market. This nostalgic love runs deep even today, as exemplified by Crash’s domination of the UK Charts for not one, but two summers in a row.
Me, however, I wasn’t sold. I didn’t care much for the glut of 3D platformers that swamped the shelves in the wake of Nintendo’s Super Mario 64. I was all about the punching and the giant spiders and the powerbombs. So, it’s with a bit of sigh that I received my review code for Activision’s Spyro Reignited Trilogy, which compiles three dragon-y adventures from the later years of the PS1. I played the original game way back when, but that has become a fog with time. Y’see, I don’t particularly care for the genre, or the characters, or the starry-eyed nostalgia surrounding Spyro’s brand.
But the smug little bastard put me in my place, that’s for true.
Spyro Reignited Trilogy (PS4 [reviewed] Xbox One) Developer: Toys for Bob Publisher: Activision Released: November 13, 2018 MSRP: $39.99 Activision’s Spyro Reignited Trilogy takes three of the titular dragon’s classic PS1 adventures and bundles them together in one easy-to-swallow, lengthy-to-download package. Reignited features 1998’s Spyro the Dragon, 1999’s Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage and 2000’s Spyro: Year of the Dragon. Developed from the ground-up by Toys for Bob, Reignited hopes to please Spyro’s dedicated fans, while giving those who missed out previously an opportunity to experience the ’90s adventures with new aesthetics befitting a modern era of gaming.
And what a job they have done in that particular department. Reignited, more that just an upgrade, is a stunning re-imagining of Spyro’s universe. Despite being recreated faithfully in a dimensional sense, every world has been beautifully realised, bursting with luscious colours, strong lighting effects, and with meticulous attention paid to the animation of every single character.
“Character” is the optimal word here, as every creature, friend or foe, is brimming with life in their movement, idle animation, death animation, facial expressions and physical behaviour. The cast of Reignited are depicted with such care that they instill a genuine sense of personality. Every dragon rescued in the original Spyro is a joy to behold, selling their respective attitudes in fun design. smooth animation and a few scant lines of dialogue. The terrain itself – from wide-open fields and dusty valleys, to deep blue oceans and red-skied lava pits – are universally gorgeous. Through strong colours, smart effects and fluid movement, Toys for Bob hasn’t just upgraded Spyro’s universe, it has imbued it with heart to create a (fire) breathing world of fun characters.
youtube
One thing I certainly wasn’t expecting was to get such a kick out of the soundtrack. Blending upbeat, happy-go-lucky tunes with bizarre, almost prog-rock use of bass and organs, the Spyro soundtracks have been re-recorded afresh to match Reignited’s visual facelift. They sound similarly fantastic, save for some odd looping. Dynamic music adds and removes beats dependent on whether yer boy Spyro is standing still, wandering, gliding or dashing, which lends a nice cinematic touch to the action.
For purists, the original soundtrack can be restored via the pause menu, in case you’re looking for that Pavlovian link to your memories. Voice work is solid, although I’ve never really “bought” Spyro’s voice, I don’t think it fits him. Much hilarity was also found in the bizarre gamut of accents in Year of the Dragon, Is that supposed to German? South African? Italian? There’s a lot of flyer miles going on with some of YOTD’s characters.
Speaking of sound, it would be remiss for me not to address the weird omission of subtitles during cut-scenes. This was an issue also raised with the Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy. Despite Activision’s terrible attempts to excuse the situation, there’s simply no reason not to include subtitles in a video game in 2018. There’s zero point in the publisher trying to explain it away. Here’s hoping for a possible update in the future, because it’s a baffling design decision. Fortunately, subtitles do appear when speaking to in-game quest-givers.
Of course, none of this aesthetic praise counts for anything if the gameplay doesn’t get your wings flapping. In this regard, Toys for Bob have chosen to play it safe. Reignited attempts to recreate its trilogy to a tee, without making any serious attempts to alter, break or fix too much from the original releases. This is a double-edged sword – a “problem” faced by many retro-remake releases – as it delivers the exact same experience that long-time fans remember, but also doesn’t shake anything up in order to catch up with video gaming advances in the interim.
As such, fans will be stoked with how immediately recognisable Reignited feels, but some newcomers may find its gameplay, particularly in the original Spyro the Dragon, simplistic and dated. Let’s face it, these games are pushing 20 years old now, and their basic “search the world and find all the gems” objectives may come across as bland in an era where we are bombarded with objectives, side-quests and other activities in our 3D adventures.
That said, It must be noted that I personally found it refreshing to play through three games where the map screen wasn’t swamped with icons. More isn’t always more. After a couple of decades of open-worlds where you can’t move for tripping over yet another quest, Reignited is almost therapeutic in its approach to activities. Year of the Dragon is the most creative, requiring Spyro – and various playable pals – to complete “mini-missions” in order to receive items needed to progress. Oh, it also has skateboarding and a “Whoa, dude!” character, because it’s the year 2000 and of course it fucking does.
With these remakes, Toys for Bob has gone above and beyond in audio/visual upgrades, but remained withdrawn in terms of gameplay experimentation. As such, Reignited is the definitive version of the original Spyro trilogy, looking, sounding, and for sure controlling better than ever before. Aesthetically, it isn’t just an upscale, its a reinvention of Spyro, Sheila, Sgt. Byrd and their friends, enemies and universe. A reinvention that’ll leave fans squealing with delight.
By choosing to toe the line, gameplay-wise, Reignited threatens to leave some newcomers – who have been spoiled for choice with hundreds of excellent releases in the last two decades – wondering what all the fuss is about. But, as I said above, I personally found the stripped-back approach to open-world gaming not only relaxing, but refreshing. I guess everything old is new again…
Spyro Reignited Trilogy is a fan’s dream. This heartfelt remake is bursting with colour, character and adventure, even if it has been developed with an cautious approach to reinvention. Though some might find its retro-fused action a little simplistic in this convoluted era of gaming, Spyro has the ability to entertain even the most cynical player with its wonderful worlds, slick design, and ability to spark the flames of nostalgia.

Sand away any paint at the contact point for the best connection. Step #4: Make your wiring connections Now, mount your powered sub and make your connections. Car powered subwoofer basics Car Powered Subwoofer Installation Service near McAllen TX:Many vehicles over the years (even as far back as the 1980s) have had factory-installed powered woofers in their premium level sound system. TIPS Car Powered Subwoofer Installation Service near McAllen TX: ● If you want to make the installation as easy as possible, we recommend choosing a powered subwoofer.
COST Subwoofer for Car Pricing Car Powered Subwoofer Installation Service near McAllen TX: Under $100: These car subwoofers usually only include the speaker itself or produce low-quality sound.
Start with a subwoofer with a high efficiency (sensitivity) rating housed in a ported or band passbox.

President Trump Signs Ban on TikTok, WeChat as Government Declares Hostility Towards Chinese Digital Goods and Services
President Trump has signed an executive order declaring that both TikTok and WeChat will be banned in the United States within 45 days. At the same time, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has released a comprehensive roadmap for denying Chinese companies access to United States infrastructure. The text of both executive orders reads, in part:
Specifically, the spread in the United States of mobile applications developed and owned by companies in the People’s Republic of China (China) continues to threaten the national security, foreign policy, and economy of the United States.
In order to safeguard US citizens and interests, both TikTok and WeChat must be banned. Meanwhile, Secretary of State Pompeo has released a five-point Clean Network program that is intended to make certain that Chinese carriers are not connected to US telecom networks, that “untrusted applications” are removed from mobile app stores, that US companies are not making their applications available on the storefronts of untrusted partners, that US data is not being stored on servers owned by Alibaba, Baidu, or Tencent, and that undersea cables are not being subverted by foreign operatives for spying.
The text of these orders raise significant questions about the ability of the President to make unilateral policy via executive order and the degree to which US government policies should exert market control over corporate behavior.
A Complex Kettle of Fish
Over the past year, I’ve written multiple stories about how US companies have been willing to give in to Chinese demands to control the speech of private citizens in the US, even going so far as to get a low-level hotel social media employee fired for the crime of liking a tweet that shared an article featuring her employer. There have been a number of troubling instances where US companies like Google actively partnered with the Chinese government to spy on its own citizens more effectively. China has also imprisoned the Uighur ethnic minority in camps and treated them as a slave labor force. Any concrete action that addresses these concerns is going to have a governmental as well as a corporate component and I generally agree with the Trump Administration’s decision to have a conversation on this topic in a way that has been lacking in both Democrat and Republican administrations dating back at least to the late 1990s, though the effort won’t help US companies whose IP has already been stolen. At the same time, however, the paper trail on TikTok and WeChat does not match what we know about companies like Huawei.
Where Huawei is concerned, the government has articulated fears that the firm could build backdoors into its products and that its position as a 5G hardware provider could allow it to build backdoors into its products that are impossible to close. It is unclear what fundamental threat TikTok or WeChat pose to either American infrastructure or American citizens, and the broad language of Secretary of State Pompeo’s declaration gives some cause for concern. The “Cloud” section of the article above declares that the US will act “To prevent U.S. citizens’ most sensitive personal information and our businesses’ most valuable intellectual property, including COVID-19 vaccine research, from being stored and processed on cloud-based systems accessible to our foreign adversaries through companies such as Alibaba, Baidu, and Tencent.”
What constitutes “most sensitive personal information?” The document does not say. This is not a trivial question. If “most sensitive personal information” is defined as “Private medical records and financial histories,” people would be unlikely to argue. If “most sensitive personal information” includes credit card numbers, you’ve just made a case for outlawing League of Legends based on the fact that Riot Games processes credit card data. Tencent, after all, owns Riot. It owns a hefty share in Epic Games, too.
“My Heart and Swole, Always for Demacia!” Image by Riot, which is owned by Tencent.
I cannot recall another time when the US government declared that a foreign company had 45 days to sell itself to a US firm (Microsoft, in TikTok’s case) or face a complete operating ban. I also do not recall any previous time when the President of the United States declared that the US government expected a bribe — pardon me, key money” — in return for facilitating the purchase. One imagines the author of this Bloomberg article writing it with a drink in one hand and several empties already on the table. Regardless of one’s political leanings, interjections of this sort do not make evaluating the national security implications of global political changes any easier. Similarly, what exactly is contemplated by the criticism of US companies selling applications in app markets overseas? Previous technology export restrictions, lifted decades ago, did not contemplate banning a TikTok-like application (if such had existed). If anything, the popularity of a US application in the Chinese market would have been more likely to be viewed as a demonstration of soft power.
While the national security implications of closer ties with China have deservedly been criticized, there have been only general data privacy concerns raised about products like TikTok and WeChat. Many, though not all, of those concerns apply to US companies as well and the manner in which they secure (or, rather, don’t secure) the data of US citizens. If the Trump Administration wants to articulate a set of policies by which current and future Chinese software and hardware will be evaluated on national security grounds, that may well be within the scope of its purview, but the standards should be transparent and fairly applied. If a company violates them, Americans who used the applications deserve to know exactly why they are being banned — with specifics, not vague hand-waved gestures towards potential risk.
It is imperative that we not declare the data mining practices of foreign firms illegal solely because they are foreign firms. Daily, it seems, we learn more about how various companies have invented various means of tracking people. Many of these methods are based on incredibly intrusive practices — one federal contractor just acknowledged embedding tracking spyware into dozens of APIs that were incorporated into third-party products with zero oversight, with the intent of using this information for law enforcement purposes. No, this isn’t the same as throwing members of an ethnic minority into forced labor camps. That doesn’t make it good. Many of the same companies caught engaging in unethical actions in China, like Google, built the US ecosystem that’s now systemically used to strip-mine our privacy for profit. Pretending the problem is solely an overseas issue allows US companies to skirt blame for their own egregious actions.
Matt Stoller also makes an excellent argument here, pointing out that the entire reason TikTok is an American fad to begin with is because Facebook actively used its market clout to kill Vine, Twitter’s version of TikTok, while giving TikTok huge amounts of advertising. In other words, we now have a Chinese competitor sitting in an American market because an American company was allowed to abuse its monopolistic power. Facebook launched Reels this week, as a direct competitor to TikTok at a time when the federal government is proposing to ban the company. While I am not accusing the Trump Administration from acting in deliberate concert with Facebook, President Trump’s declaration that the US government should get a cut of the still-theoretical sale of TikTok’s US business to Microsoft, combined with Facebook’s decision to launch a new TikTok competitor now, looks like the federal government “picking winners and losers” (to borrow an old phrase) far more overtly than any decision to award grant money to a bad pick in the aftermath of the Great Recession.
These issues are complex because there are few actions the federal government takes that don’t have implications for someone in a “win/lose” context at some point. NASA’s decision to tap SpaceX for launches literally saved the company by funding its development. Was the government “picking winners and losers,” or was it “Providing funding for the long-term development of US national interests in space by collaborating with a corporate partner?” How you answer that question depends on how important you think space travel is, how good a partner you think SpaceX has been, and who you think should be paying for it. Real-world politics never condenses into sound bites as easily as some wish it did.
For an additional perspective on this issue I recommend The Verge’s writeup, which focuses on an issue the author nicknames information-nationalism. Information-nationalism, as described, is the idea that discussing problems at home or confronting, say, historic inequalities in how America treats people weakens our ability, as a nation, to call out these problems abroad. It views containment of this type of discussion as essential to the capability to project power in other respects because acknowledging fault is seen as equivalent to acknowledging weakness.
Such arguments are dangerous because they can easily become justification for internal censorship. The President’s repeatedly-stated belief that testing more people for COVID-19 is literally the reason that America’s disease figures are terrible is an easy example of how this kind of thinking can lead directly to a justification for suppressing information: If acknowledging the truth of the pandemic makes America look weak, the solution is not to improve the quality of America’s pandemic response, but to stop testing people. As The Verge notes, that’s basically the same argument the Chinese government uses as a justification for suppressing conversation around events like the Tienanmen Square Massacre.
There are good reasons to be suspicious of China, but the question of inappropriate surveillance is not unique to China. US citizens do not deserve to have their lives strip-mined for corporate profits regardless of whether the miners are domestic or foreign and any effort to create new rules on these issues should center data privacy and security for American citizens first and foremost. The idea that these practices are deployed purely in benign ways in this country and that the only real abuses occur elsewhere is a set of cultural blinders we do not have the luxury of wearing.

Title Furwind Developer JanduSoft Publisher JanduSoft, Boomfire Games Release Date June 27th, 2019 Genre Action Platformer Platform Vita, PS4, Nintendo Switch Age Rating E for Everyone – Fantasy Violence Official Website
I should start this review by saying I’m a fan of games like Furwind. That is important to note, since in many ways this review will read as an autopsy of sorts. That’s not cause I hate the game. I’m a big fan of indies. But just because I enjoy them doesn’t mean I’m not critical of them. That goes double when I see all the potential a game has, and feel it’s not realized. So let’s start out with what Furwind does right before I have to delve into its many missteps.
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
The game starts with a lovingly narrated introduction amidst illustrated pages from a book. It tells the tale of a dark force locked away years ago that is fighting back to the world of life, corrupting the natural order. Pretty standard stuff, but nothing bad either. You play a young fox named Furwind who must fight against the rising evil while helping the inhabitants of the forest world you live in. At first I actually thought that Furwind was a metroidvania, since you have a double jump and dash move to traverse your environment, but it’s really more of a platformer adventure game.
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
Furwind is broken up into 3 separate chapters with a handful of levels each, as well as optional challenge and rescue missions. To play those, you first need to unlock both in the standard stages. The following are the only types of standard stages you’ll come across – forest stages, fiery ruin stages, dark caverns and temple chase stages that grants you a new ability. You’ll get an ability in each chapter, and to make those challenging you’re stripped of your other obtained abilities while you beat these chase stages. For example, you’ll get an aerial dash ability which would have helped make those chase stages much simpler, but sadly you’re restricted to lateral movement and your double jump. I consider myself good at platformers, and I still had a rough time with some of these. While the difficulty does ramp up in each chapter, I was a bit disappointed by the lack of stage variety. I would have loved more, cause while what’s here is fine, it does start to get stale pretty quickly.
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
In the standard stages, your primary goal is to find both pieces of the golden Totem needed to unlock the stage exit. Each one is protected by a Guardian, ranging from a primal cat warrior to a snail-riding archer to a hive full of insects to a boar wizard. There’s some cool ideas here, but unfortunately in any given level whichever Guardian you face the first time will be the same one you face the second time. I suspect the reason for this is a lack of budget more than a lack of creativity, but it was disappointing nevertheless. Once you’ve faced a Guardian once, you know exactly how to beat them next time, and only rarely do they get armed with new tricks.
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
Your other goal in every stage is to collect as much loot as possible. Colorful gems will be strewn throughout each stage, and many foes will drop them when defeated. You use these for buying upgrades to your skills and stats from the Mystic Shop run by Korvo, who is the first citizen you rescue. That’s all good and well, but there’s a couple problems. One is that you don’t just need currency to unlock upgrades, you need it to activate checkpoints. Each stage has a couple of them, and every time you use them they cost more. I tried not worrying about using them, but the more frantic the game gets, the more I was forced to. This meant I had less cash to spend on upgrades, which was annoying since there are a ton of them and most of them are necessary. You’ll need to buy more starting health, for example, as well as increasing your stamina meter.
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
Yes, you heard me right, Furwind has a stamina meter. While it doesn’t govern things like your abilities (which are limited use anyhow) or double jumping, it sadly governs your only physical attack, which is a short tail swing. What that means is if you’re surrounded by foes and are smacking your tail around, you’ll eventually get winded and be defenseless til your stamina recharges. That is a feature no platformer needs, as it just feels like an artificial way to increase the difficulty. Further compounding things is that your other attacks are basically useless. Early on you get Seed Bombs you can toss at foes. Unfortunately, they don’t explode on contact, so you need to be the exact right distance away to have them explode in enemy faces. They also seem to do less damage to foes than your tail swing. Now, to be fair you mostly use Seed Bombs to destroy certain blocks to progress, but it felt like a real missed opportunity for them not to double as a versatile attack alternative. You’re also only able to hold 3 of them at a time, which makes them even harder to justify using except when you absolutely need to. Other than that, you get a Will of the Wisp that will rotate around you and fire projectiles with minor homing capacity, but these were equally underwhelming.
More Furwind on Page 2 ->
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
I’ve explained the basic flow of levels and combat, but any platformer lives or dies by its platforming. At first I thought Furwind was doing well in that regard, but that belief didn’t last long. For example, I liked how you start out with a double jump in the game, but quickly realized its early inclusion meant that it felt less necessary. You’ll find lots of things just out of reach, even with your double jump. Instead they often require you to get to a higher vantage point and then dash over to them. Also bad is that after your second jump, your landing feels a bit slippery. I’ve fallen off blocks right after landing on them, which is problematic. It was also frustrating that most all of your abilities cannot be used while in midair, with the exception of the aerial dash. This hurts the flow of the exploration badly, and made the game feel clunky and awkward. Platformers need tight controls, and Furwind was spongy at best.
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
Despite those problems, the exploration does have its bright spots. The Ruin levels have lots of fiery mayhem I enjoyed, and a sort of ancient version of Simon you need to beat to unlock the Totems. I also found the dark Cavern levels compelling, since you needed to keep a bunch of glowing fireflies around you otherwise you’d get devoured by the red-eyed creatures hiding in the darkness. There were legitimate cool ideas here, which again makes me wish for more level variety. Give me some underwater levels or ones set in the clouds. Introduce new mechanics that require your abilities. Instead, things just don’t really grow that much, especially since only one of the abilities you obtain provides a new way to explore. The others are just a healing skill and the aforementioned Will of the Wisp.

What really brings the game down was the aggressive enemy AI and uninspired combat. Whenever a foe finds you, they’ll rush your way, even if they’re a screen away. This is problematic for the tiny flying enemies that can pass through terrain, such as teeny bats, red floating eyeballs and wasps. They will wander at you out of nowhere and will often interrupt you, knocking you out of a jump. It’s especially bad when there’s a swarm of them. And keep in mind, that stamina meter and the limited range of your tail attack only exacerbates things. Not to mention, often when you break a box in your path, a foe will spawn from it and charge you. And while I do find all the main boss fights interesting and different, none of them let you directly attack the monsters. Instead you attack things around them, which is far less satisfying.

Before we move onto the last part, let’s touch on the art and music design. I still love the pixel art in Furwind. It’s colorful, complex and charming. While I wanted more enemy variety, the ones here all look different and have distinct behaviors. My favorites were the ornery shamans, luminescent giant grubs and the shambling purple goblins. Likewise, the bosses all looked sinister yet cartoony, which is a tough trick to accomplish. Musically, the game is equally great, with tunes well suited for such a quaint fantasy. I liked the grunts of goblins as they chased you and the sound of lighting and rain falling in the forest. Furwind is at its best in the aesthetics department.

Now we have to touch upon the weakest parts of the game. I mentioned the narrated intro earlier, and while it sounds great, it also in no way accurately matches the text. The game has lots of grammatical errors and misspellings, and they become annoying quickly. And while I liked the sound effects in general, there are some places they’re beyond stupid. One is how Guardians mutter the same random words over and over, like how the snail-rider keeps muttering “snail!” loudly. Another large complaint is the use of HD Rumble. It’s incredibly aggressive and I couldn’t figure out how to turn it off, like in most games. And while I did enjoy some of the platforming, Furwind desperately needed a mini map. I got lost plenty of times in the large levels, and that’s never something I enjoy. But perhaps worst of all is that you get nothing for 100% beating the game. I finished every rescue and challenge stage, and got zip for it. I’m a strong proponent of everything serving a purpose in games, and thanks to this design these optional stages just felt like filler.
Better luck next time, little guy.
I honestly feel that Furwind had all the elements it needed to be a great game, it just put them together in the wrong configuration. Had this been a metroidvania like I thought, one with well translated text and more diversity of challenges, it would have been fantastic. Instead, we get a throwback to games of the past that felt awkward and disappointing. While it’s pretty affordable at $9.99, and I did get about 6 hours of gameplay out of it, it’s really hard to justify buying it at full price. I respect what I think JanduSoft was trying to do here, but it missed the mark. Here’s hoping they take this constructive criticism in the spirit it’s intended and make their next game a masterpiece.
