My favorite loopchat is definitely "did you know your eyes are two different shades?" but tbh i haven't stopped thinking abt the one where siffrin asks if loop is a star and they say some shit like "I'm more like a mirror. It'd be boring to be the real thing" ever since i finished the game w twohats
Like loop's favorite activities are being vague as fuck and foreshadowing. So it's entirely possible that loop starts saying star to mean like. Actor (star of the show, the star of a play and stuff like that). And they just like. Answered that at least half honestly just bc siffrin would be like "? What are you blinding talking about" and the true meaning would fly over his head bc he's still thinking about stars (celestial bodies). + it would add to a lot of stuff loop says to you not really being lies like you might think on a first impression

Very very intrigued by @protectorcraft's fic, a bell chimes somewhere. I never turn down an opportunity to draw a creature-beast, so I tried to figure out monster Siffrin! Probably got a lot of details wrong, but as of right now Siffrin's exact bodyplan is decently ambiguous. I leaned into the dragon part cuz that's my area of expertise.

You know I'm kinda insane about the implication that Odile chose her name as a way to connect more with her vaugardian roots because I feel there aren't many characters in fiction who change their names especially outside of trans-related reasons.

FINALLY DONE WITH THE ISAT OC! SOLEIL!!!
Tumblr media
The creature... So first things first is some info about them pre- disappearance of The Country. They're a loyal follower and avid worshipper of The Country. They love the Universe sooo much that they made a wish to be able to read the stars, and the Universe answered. I like to think that the stars are talkative, some can predict what will happen in the near future, some are just "chatting" to each other about the stuff happening in the world they overlook. It's a somewhat useful ability that Soleil used to use to be able to either predict someone's future (rarely though, the stars hold many different futures and it's hard to figure out which is whose) or use it during funeral rites to have a more reassuring experience to the ones mourning that their loved one arrived safely among the stars.
And then they found out about The Cursing of Chateau Castle-- they kiiiinda got Really obsessed with the book series that they wanted to know more about it but there wasn't any more copies of it in the Country's language so what better way to deal with that but teaching itself how to understand the Vaugardian language, and by doing that they got to learn more about the Vaugardian culture and was really amazed by it (considering that they spent most of their life with the Country's culture instead, learning about a different culture is a great feeling). One thing led to the other and it also led Soleil to travelling to Vaugarde (something that their family wasn't all that happy with but they stay silly).
And so we're back at the present time! Now to talk about some details on its appearance.
Its Craft type is Scissors! The eye on the center of its chest and the eye by its nape are in fact EYES and not just accessories (although they did try to make the eye on its chest appear to be like a mix between a star shape and the Change Symbol).
After spending some time in Vaugarde, they learned about Body Craft in which case they decided to experiment with it in regards to its eyes.
Since being in Vaugarde, there wasn't much use to its star sight and there also isn't a way to "turn it off." So instead, they decided to separate its Normal sight from the Star sight by adding another pair of eyes on its body.
The eyes on its face are blind. They can't see through it anymore but they Can still see the stars (they can't read it anymore however cuz of the Country's disappearance).
If they focus on the stars using those eyes, they'd get a REALLY bad headache and a star sign appears on its eyes. Nothing to be afraid of probably, its head just Really hurts.
The glass covering the eye on its nape is a one way mirror. You won't be able to see the eye but the eye can still see you.
With its vision split, it actually took them awhile to get used to that. It takes a lot of concentration and focus to see both from behind and from the front. When Soleil gets tired from doing that, they either close the eye on its nape (if the place is safe enough) or unfocus it enough to the point that most of its vision becomes blurry with only being able to see blobs of shapes and shadows which helps them be alert enough in case something comes running at them from behind.
All the round objects you see on its body are Bombs. They found out about Bomb Craft in Jouvente and was so fascinated by it that their inventor brain (inventing, crafting, and repairing stuff is a special interest of theirs). They now like making bombs and inventing new ones (only they have the recipe of those).
The bombs they invented only detonates via a Craft spell, it's basically as safe as an ordinary ball to handle unless detonated. Also the scissors at the top of their head has a cover on its tip. It's Very Sharp. They mainly use that (either the tip or the scissor blades itself) to cut the bombs dangling on its body.
Despite the multitude of bombs they carry, they aren't actually much of a fighter (they just like bombs). Most of its Craft spells are basic/beginner level. The one and only Powerful Craft spell they have is a shield/defense spell that they practiced several times. It's capable of negating all damage for 2 turns with a 5 turn cooldown, they wanted to master that spell to make it so that bombs won't hurt them no matter the close proximity.
Its hand signs are "broken." They used to mimic the hand signs that the Universe (I'm mainly referring to my design of the Universe) makes. But after forgetting about everything in regards to it, they can't remember what hand signs they used to make but the familiar feeling was still there.
A huge fan of The Cursing of Chateau Castle, to the point of practically making it part of its identity now that a HUGE chunk of its memory is missing. Its outfit is a modified version of what they think Lady Irene-Janine-Karine wears.
Its personality is a mixture of Lord Josephandre, Pierre-Jacques-Erneste, and Lady Irene-Janine-Karine (aka the Chateau Trio!!! Love those three...).
Its name, "Soleil" is just something they found in a book and decided to use for itself. They don't remember its name anymore.
#ariart#ariaoc#isat oc#isat spoilers#theres some danger in the fact that sol took pierres personality too considering that pierre betrayed the party that one time--#honestly if i think about sol harder i begin to realize that theres A LOT of things wrong about them mentally#what forgetting a country with a belief system you were incredibly loyal to does to someone i think.#also making it so that sol was the npc that translated that one issue of the cursing of chateau castle from vaugardian#into the language of the Country. if you were to enter its home. youll be greeted by a LOT of bookcases and shelves and books#and therell be at least 4 of those dedicated to the cursing of chateau castle. original version and the ones they translated#there will ofc be sections where its about the Country tho. actually i think if siffrin visited its home he'll be able to know more#about the Country. if he became close friends enough to be able to enter the rooms with the books of it. sol couldnt read them#anymore but feels as though those books were important so they moved it elsewhere for safekeeping. making sure to maintain it too#also yea you can now see exactly how im pushing the isat worldbuilding to its limits via body craft#i like to think that if in case body craft operates in a similar manner to alchemy in that by Changing something theres an equal#exchange to be given. if its Changing your appearance to a new one then the equal value to be exchanged is the Old appearance#but if for example theres a missing body part. youd have to find Something else of equal value to replace it then#and by going off of that same principle. if a body part has two functions (like with sol's eyes having a special sight to it)#then by Changing its appearance. the equal value follows the same principle of the: exchange Old for New#except that in sol's case. with the addition of a body part that has two functions. technically speaking they can Separate the#two functions while still following the usual method. it's just that now theres another set of eyes on its body. still a New appearance tho

Just remembered I actually got a decent amount of followers from isat art recently. Erm. Sorry for the nugget madness that still persists. It will continue to happen <3
#rat rambles#oc posting#lobotomy posting#dw its been a pretty regular back and forth between nugget madness and chou madness recently so Ill circle back around to the chou madness#I just have been playing lob corp more recently and as such the thangs are on my mind#part of me wants to try to make a chou lob corp skin but I know it wouldnt work out#the hair space is just sooooo limited it and I already tried making a normal siffrin skin once and I drew his hair less fluffy back then#and it very much did not fit I had to give up on that 😔#one thing I think could be fun is trying to make custom assets for my nuggets but it would just be for fun#I already beat the game with my main facility so while I still have the save lying around Im not exactly going to be playing it#plus I wouldnt want to edit their appearances anyways since those are my babies I could never#but idk it could be fun. lore accurate eva hair where she doenst have straight hair would be neat.#the real struggle is ellie tbh since her current design is basically completely made up#ofc she has the same ego and I took light inspo from her in game sprite but her face and hair are indeed very different#and thats because she was made with completely different intent than what I ended up doing with her#shes a very rare example of a custom nugget in my facility and in particular she was the first one I made just to fuck around with it#she was actively named after oni ellie tho. I sure did do that to myself. for some reason.#its ok past me I forgive you I love nugget ellie very very dearly#but yeah I usually try to stick fairly close to my guys' in game sprites but mostly in color and inspiration because I have like four guys#with the stupid vent hair and I need to stylize them all differently or else Ill explode and die forever#honestly its a miracle I only have like 2 nuggets with feather hair I think if I had more Id scream in agony

At least one(1) person asked for it. SO-
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We'll start with some stuff from the isat spoiler Q&A
Let's get started!
-There is only one canonical straight shot timeline that technically erases the prologue from existence. When looping back the previous timeline is completely overwritten, like saving over your save file in a game! It's all gone! Despite this, when you start a new game you're making an entirely new Siffrin to torment. So at least you're not making the same Siffrin go through hell again and again! *sweeps Loop under rug* Don't look at that. Don't worry about them. They're fine.
-While wish craft and other craft types are described to have a smell, time craft does not! I mean, what would time craft even smell like anyway? Clocks???
-Mirabelle's time freeze immunity will wear off eventually!
-Loop could actually be still comfortable with He/They. While the time loops did put them through it, the They/Them was mostly for anonymity. But there WAS some sort of identity shift. So you can and should have fun with Loop pronouns. Do it! Do it!!!
-Despite the island being forgotten, it's still physically there the entire game and before that! So it being lost is purely anti-memetic fuckery. It is just censored out by the universe.
-Loop and Siffrin sitting quietly together was originally a bug where ID5 accidentally softlocked Siffrin and trapped him at the tree. They thought it was a sweet moment of respite and implemented it.
Let's Switch it up! Reddit AMA
-There was originally a love triangle between proto Mira, Isa, and Sif before Mirabelle was made aroace. It probably would have ended in an OT3/polycule situation. So QPR MiraIsaSif truthers out there, enjoy this one.
-The idea of Loop being Siffrin came about during saap's developement. Originally the guide for isat was going to be one of ID5's ocs.
-Change God knows everything about meta because they are a God. Loop only gets a smidgen of meta knowledge, however.
-Loop's ability to see what Siffrin is up to works the same way their calls work! The farther Siffrin is, the harder it is. So Loop calls stop working past snack break 3, and Loop can barely see past the King.
-Isabeau wouldn't play video games. He touches grass.
-Siffrin was subconsciously inspired by Snufkin, from The Moomins. So we wouldn't have Siffrin as he is if everyone wasn't rabid over Moomins a few years back.
-Sadnesses ARE are a constant in the world of isat. They only become more common and poweful during times of great duress, like war or Insane False Monarchs with timey wimey powers
-The doppleganger wish in the selfcest book happened "a long time ago" and is only a child's tale now.
-Odile's name is her given name. Kinda. (No elaboration on what the fuck THAT means.)
-Siffrin only got memory issues after leaving home. They were not a forgetful child.
-At one point before they had names, Isabeau was just called "dude".
-While only called scrawny in game, Adrienne calls Siffrin "deathly thin". Metabolism monarch out here. (Probably all the casual wish craft.)
-The reason the party stops reacting to Sif's poking is just because it's tragic and makes things worse for him. That's it. The universe just hates him.
-Everyone but Odile would like rollercoasters.
-Just... this. This is so funny. Also Loop being the final boss while Siffrin is the secret final boss... Also Loop confirmed deity looking!!!
Tumblr media
-"comic!siffrin is a whole different siffrin than game!siffrins sadly. rip to them. still stuck in time" WAY TO FUCK ME UP ON A MONDAY? Comicfrin is still stuck in time.
-The characters have official voice claims but not a single one is serious except for the King's. Mira sounds like Animal crossing isabelle(isa.belle. hm.). Bonnie sound like a inkling from splatoon (ID5 specifically used the female inkling as example). Odile sounds old. Isabeau quantum mechanically sounds flamboyantly gay or like All Might from MHA. Loop sounds like stock glitter sound fx. No Siffrin voice claim. Siffrin has video game protagonist voices which means they sound like whatever you want.
-Loop's glow is comparable to a lamp. Not enough to hurt the eyes.
Siffrin and Friends Q&A time!!(Beware these are SEMI-CANON)
-Siffrin isn't really a trap master. They're just fast enough to activate and dodge the traps.
-Odile doesn't like fennel.
-Fave flowers! Bonnie=Sunflowers, Odile=Orchids, Mira=Lavender, Isa=Roses, Siffrin=None, dubiously answered with dandelions however.
-Sif is a night owl, Bon and Mira are early birds, and Odile and Isa are average.
-Siffrin and Odile have probably eaten crabs and would tempt Bonnie with their sinful ways of consuming crustaceans.
-Odile has been traveling for about 2 years.
-Odile knows how to play a shamisen. It's one of her favorite instruments as well.
-When prompted with competition Loop and Siffrin stare each other down like "kids about to throw hands".
-Loop would like to eat a pastry if they could. GIVE THEM YOUR BAKED GOODS NOW!
-Kill the King day is a Tuesday.
And finally random trivia I found while sniffing through the wiki!
-Salty broths actual cure 6 cooldown, instead of 2 like the dialogue implies.
-Chateau means castle. The cursing of castle castle...
-The Change God face with six eyes and a cat-like mouth is inspired by ID5's oc Eye Gal
-The only time tears can freeze Siffrin with no warning is in saap. By using the second Star Crest to clear one of the rows of Tears, you can just walk into the second row and freeze.
-The dev's older notes mention specific shades being used for hair dyes but they're never mentioned in-game because of the an unadded event.
-In ACT 2, there's a small chance Siffrin says "Heheh… Bonk." when activating the switch for the rock trap
-Saap Bonnie thinks nuts are gross according to some unused dialogue, but enjoys raisins.
-During early development in saap tears were originally intended to be spike traps. A left over sprite of Siffrin being impaled does exist, including minor blood spurt. This was probably changed because it was a little too gruesome, ID5 definitely tried to reel in the darker concepts and has stated they went too dark sometimes.
-Loop turning back into Siffrin was considered long enough for them to get an entire animated walking sprite.

2024 November 21st
INTO THE LAKE WITH YOU, MUD CHILD
My part of a retroactive art trade with @anxiousapplepie ! "Retroactive" because I was already drawing this before we agreed to make it part of a trade, heheh. December 2nd edit: BEHOLD!... THEIR HALF OF THE TRADE... Eleven whole pages of trade!! Go read it go read it go read it
I read this post about their Role!Swap AU, and, like, multiverse shenanigans? Check. Characters goofing off and having fun? Check. Several opportunities for slapstick humor? Check. Conclusion: I really wanted to draw it. Physical comedy is my specialty. :p
This thing is kinda all over the place composition wise (looking at you, relative sizes of speech bubbles) because there is Too Much going on in these panels and I Did Not plan ahead of time, lmao. This was supposed to be doodlier than it ended up being, so as a growing pain it's a funny jumble of consistency. One of these days I'll be able to doodle without getting carried away. 😂
More rambling and close-ups under the cut
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This interaction in particular is what nudged me over the edge to draw this whole thing. I don't know what Fighter Mirabelle's malfunction is when it comes to the Siffrins, but it lets me make Sif the butt of a joke again, so yeehaw! His hat being catapulted out of frame made me laugh when I was thinking of what to do with the composition-complicating hat in question.
Also my personal take is Siffrin is 100% having the time of their life here. Making new(?) friends? Being involved in a fun group activity? Well worth inhaling some puddle water and having to go jump in The Lake to wash the mud off later.
Tumblr media
Bonnie being so furious they changed art styles wasn't in my original plan, but I'm so glad I thought of it on a whim because it made me laugh Every Time I looked at their face. 😂
Time taken on this whole thing was 42 hours and 50 minutes. AND. I KNOW THAT SOUNDS BAD. IF YOU KNOW I'M TRYING TO SPEED UP MY ART PROCESS. But this project gets a special pass. This was the farthest out of my art comfort zone I've been in a while! 13 (mostly) full-body characters at various complicated angles, 2 backgrounds, learning to use CSP's perspective rulers, effects I'm not used to like water splashes, etc etc. I made progress on speeding up sketching & line art as well! Some of the lines you see are just extremely cleaned up sketch. I was able to let myself fudge things more too. For example, Mira's dress is a very "dude just trust me" simplification because I don't know how the clothes folds would work at that angle. ^^;;
So while there's still a handful of things I'm not happy with, it's worth it for the learning experience and perfectionism-busting progress! Also for the sake of drawing silliness, of course.
Oh, lastly; the KO sprite is the one from in-game, so it was made by insertdisc5 and not me.

Siffrin deals with his anxieties (both rational and irrational) by performing rituals and compulsions. These rituals can become obsessive, especially in times of heightened stress, and often focus around either checking things, or numbers. They also deal with intrusive thoughts, with such frequency and intensity that it impacts their ability to function. Those...are all symptoms of OCD.
Let's define some terms, before we go into examples. What are obsessions in this context? This often refers to obsessive thoughts/anxieties/mindsets. These are prevalent, reoccurring, sometimes disturbing, often irrational fears. Intrusive thoughts are one example of this, though not all obsessions are intrusive thoughts. Intrusive thoughts are specifically unwanted and very distressing and often graphic thoughts or images in one's mind. An example of such is this:
Tumblr media
Next, are compulsions and rituals. Compulsions are actions that one takes to break the obsession spiral. These either soothe the root fear (though usually temporarily), or quiet the disturbing thought or image. Rituals are "safe" compulsions, decided as such either by repetition or irrational logic. The wording that Siffrin uses when questioned about obsessive checking of pillars is as follows:
Tumblr media
One of the most common mental justifications for compulsions is "But what if?". The perceived cost of performing a compulsion is often weighed as nothing against the potential of something truly awful happening. "What if?" carries a lot of weight for people dealing with OCD- often one knows that both the fears and the compulsions are irrational and logically one cannot control the Universe by tapping a certain amount of times on a table, checking for the tenth time if your alarm was set, or repeating a phrase multiple times in your mind. However, the weight of the potential fear is just so great that one cannot take the chance, even knowing that. This paradoxical position of both awareness and delusion that many with OCD have is called "OCD with insight" (1)
This post became....much longer than I planned, so the rest will be under the cut. Please read the rest though!!! There's so much more to it! ☆
The diagnostic criteria for OCD in the ICD (2) and the DSM (3) are relatively similar (though the DSM focuses a lot more on ruling out other causes for similar behavior like anxiety disorders and delusional disorders), and focus on the obsessions being self-sustaining and the rituals being often time consuming and frustrating to have to do. However, not all compulsions are even notable enough to the person to cause any frustration or discomfort, nor are all of them consciously done with any sort of logic behind them. It's quite common for people to perform compulsions without even having a reasoning for why (4).
Hey, weren't we talking about Siffrin ISAT? What's with all this research paper bullshit? Can't you just show me where in the game my blorbo shows signs of mental disorders???!?
Well, one example of rituals that Siffrin engages in is repeating phrases, either out loud or in their head. The number they tend to come back to, again and again, is three. This is shown when they are explaining Wish Craft, and despite the fact that the specific number of repetitions of your wish genuinely doesn't matter, just that it's repeated at all, they instinctively say to repeat your wish three times, before catching themselves and correcting their error.
Tumblr media
...When Loop explains their Wish to Siffrin, they say it three times as well. "I wished it could be over. I wished I could get out of here. I wished for someone to help me."
Whenever Siffrin wants something to go right, throughout the game, he also almost always repeats his desired outcome three times.
Tumblr media
It's a noticeable enough habit that his party members mention it, when in the trap room. They've noticed the ritualistic mumbling that he does whenever he wants something to go right.
It's not just when they want something to go right that they're doing it though. They repeat things three times when they're panicking, too, to calm themselves down. When they loop back after beating the king:
Tumblr media
It's not even just thinking or saying things either, they take actions in threes too, to soothe themselves. After Kingquest:
Tumblr media
You can see both thinking things in threes and acting in threes here. It's everywhere. If you look through the game again, you won't be able to help but notice how often they do things in threes.
Speaking of the coughing though, that's another one of the compulsions they do. Covering their mouth, coughing, gagging, they do all of those when trying to banish disturbing memories or thoughts from their mind.
After looping when refusing to try to say the name of their country when the King asks.
Tumblr media
Notice again, they repeat "You know" three times. Like I said, you'll start seeing that EVERYWHERE now.
To note, if you try to say it once and try not to say it another time, you'll get this instead:
Tumblr media
Three breaths, here.
I could go on, but I don't think I need to.
Another important factor when considering OCD is the need for control. People with OCD not only report a lower level of perceived control over their thoughts and actions, and not only tend to need a higher level of control than the average person to feel safe and comfortable, but also, the less control over their environment they have, the more that OCD symptoms often intensify. (5)
Siffrin is in a paradoxical position here, in regards to control. When they first realize they're in a timeloop, they're absolutely ESTATIC. The first bathroom break monologue exemplifies exactly WHY he's so euphoric at this point:
Tumblr media
He's euphoric with CONTROL. No matter what happens, he can always try again. He's safe. He can keep everyone he loves safe. He has SO MUCH CONTROL.
When the illusion shatters, after he's dragged back when they beat the king, that's when he realizes how little control he actually has. Sure, he can decide when he loops (most of the time) but he can't decide to STOP looping. He's trapped. The more he tries to escape, the less control he seems to have (Eg, what happens to Bonnie). After that, we can see him start to have intrusive thoughts, engage in more ritualistic behavior, and end up in more unhealthy anxiety spirals.
...And, we see him lean into the little control he DOES have (looping) more. Any time he's in a stressful situation? Any time that the control he has over a situation starts slipping away? Is Bonnie yelling at him with tears in their eyes and telling him to die? Is Isabeau pulling away from their shaking grip on his collar? Is Odile confronting him on his suspicious behavior? Are things OUT OF CONTROL? ...Control is taken back. Forcefully. He can't handle loosing more control, not when he already feels so helpless and trapped.
Talking about the bathroom scenes, there's another one I want to point out. The first Friendquest run. It's the perfect example of delusional anxieties and compulsions used to quiet the distressing thought, rather than soothe them.
Tumblr media
...Yeah.
Siffrin is suddenly overcome with the anxiety that the simple act of believing that his plan could work will somehow make it not come true anymore. This is an example of "magical thinking", or a belief that defies the scientific or culturally accepted laws of causality (eg. "If I step on a crack, my mother's back will break"). It's specifically an example of TAF, or "Thought-action fusion", which is the belief that one's mere thoughts can cause completely unrelated actions to happen in the real world. This is an essential part of how compulsions can genuinely relieve anxiety, and is actually one of the differences between those with other anxiety disorders and those with OCD. Magical thinking is essential to OCD. (6)
This exchange also showcases an example of how compulsions done to quiet rather than to soothe can sometimes involve self harming behaviors to "shake" the thought out of one's mind. In this case, him hitting his own head and focusing on the pain rather than on the thought. Most definitely not a healthy way to deal with it! But what else do we expect from Siffrin, honestly.
Another example of a self-harming compulsion being used to "shake" out a distressing and unwanted thought, also including a more minor example of magical thinking:
Tumblr media
Researchers and psychologists have often attempted to divide OCD into subtypes. This has usually been done because different types of obsessions often demand different treatment plans. (7) The actual divisions have varied from researcher to researcher, but one type that consistently comes up, is harm OCD/moral OCD. (Of note, one person usually, but not always, fits into multiple subtypes. I personally think Siffrin fits into multiple) Harm OCD is characterized by a fixation on believing one is a bad person and causing harm to others, often despite others expressing the contrary. This often comes along with very intense self-criticism and judgement.
After repeating a Friendquest route multiple times:
Tumblr media
Mal Du Pays fight:
Tumblr media
Siffrin specifically is fixated on the worry that the knowledge that they gained by looping gives them an unfair power dynamic with their party, and taking any action informed by that knowledge means that they're taking advantage of them or forcing them to do what he wants. This is despite the fact that, no matter what he chooses to do, they are still autonomous beings who do what they want. He has less control than he thinks.
Also from the Mal Du Pays fight:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
("You should've died for me. You should've died to protect me. You should've died to protect me.", "You can wish and wish and wish all you want.", "They'll forget you. They'll forget you. They'll forget you.")
And what of Loop? They're also a Siffrin, right? Examination of the self from an outside perspective has given them time to introspect a bit more. They directly name and point out one of Siffrin's rituals. @dormont pointed this out, in one of his posts. (8)
Loop says, here:
Tumblr media
They understand why Siffrin is doing this. Siffrin is afraid that he'll forget again. There was no warning, before the Island vanished from everyone's mind. The coin is a physical reminder that he forgot his first family, that he can't forget this one too. He often rolls it in his pocket, but sometimes grips it tightly, or flips it. In his mind, touching it will prevent him from forgetting again.
Now this is fascinating when thinking about One Hat, because in that eventuality Siffrin, after failing to find Loop at the Favor Tree, leaves his coin where Loop used to sit. This shows that he's doing better mentally, in Act 6. That he trusts himself more to remember, that he doesn't need the coin anymore.
Throughout the game, Loop keeps the comedy mask glued tight to their starry face. Because of that (and the fact that we don't see inside of their head), we don't get to see much of their own obsessions or compulsions. But there is one time where their mask slips. During Two Hats.
When they start becoming more and more distressed, they fall back into repetitions of three:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And if they win the fight....
Tumblr media
And after the fight...
Tumblr media
But of course, it's not all in distress. What was I saying, at the start of the post? The other reason why Siffrin repeats things in threes? When he wants something to go right, right? When he has a desired outcome, when he's sharpening his knife, when he's carving a figure. "Please be sharp, please be sharp, please be sharp."? At the end of it all, as Loop is fading away:
Tumblr media
"I'll see you again soon, I promise! I super promise! I super duper promise!"
And Siffrin understands exactly the intention and desire that they pressed into that repetition. After Loop is completely gone, they mirror their actions.
Tumblr media
("You flip it once, twice, three times.")
("You will see each other again.")

ok hi! So I love your ISAT au and I’m genuinely looking forward to seeing more art of it, but I am curious, how will looping back work? In the original game, it was only Siffrin so it would be easier to control when they loop back and whatnot. But as for the au, it’s 4 people now instead of one. So how would that work? Do they have to all feel the need to loop at the same time (like when Siffrin got crushed and they all looped back), or could someone’s strong enough emotions override and loop everyone back altogether? Also, in regards to looping, once they inevitably reach the Head Housemaiden, will the same thing that happened to Siffrin in the original game happen to the others here?
A loop mechanic question, let's go!
The first way to loop is as you said, the four loopers having a very strong negative reaction to something at the same time. The second way to loop is when anyone mentions their journey being over or Vanguard being save, so even if the family makes sure Siffrin doesn't talks with the head housemaid, they will inevitably loop back on their walk out of The House/ex King castle. The third way is if a looping party member dies, this one it is an INSTA trigger for a family loop.
The last way to loop is if Siffrin is left behind. For example, if the family decides to go to The House without Siffrin they will loop the second their rogue realizes he was left behind. If Siffrin dies in a later loop after it happens so many times that not everyone feels soul crushed about it and decides to keep moving to get information anyways, they will loop back the second they leave the room with Siffrin's corpse. It is a very important part of Siffrin's wish to always be together, he can't be left behind or forgotten.

I was thinking about how things like wishcraft and astronomy got forgotten and developed a fun headcanon I feel like sharing.
You see while the knowledge of those two things vanished from peoples brains with the island written records seem to remain. So clearly there's probably some books out there in another language that cover these things right? So why don't more people know about them?
After all wishcraft is a real very tangible thing in Isat and if Sif and the king are any indication it seems as if basically everyone in the forgotten country did wishcraft. Unless they were hyper isolationist (which doesn't line up with the daydreaming ones lost sister moving there) wishcraft should've been documented and studied by outsiders and removed from the memory altering context of the island to some extent.
But what if the reason wishcraft was forgotten was because it used to suck? After all the reason Siffrin can do crazy stuff with wishcraft is because he's tapping into a countries worth of wishes. Euphrasie spells this out pretty clearly at the end of act 4.
So in order to create an effect as big as a timeloop the vaugardians had to unknowingly essentially fill a massive well with wishcraft energy that only one wish could actually tap into. But if there's a country worth of people constantly using wishcraft and tapping into a bunch of wishcraft energy wells none of said wishes would have a chance build up like it did for the ''save Vaugarde'' wish.
As for the kings wish he probably tapped into people wishing for something like ''protect vaugarde, wish things would stay like this for a little while, etc.'' undirected wishes that could build up passively over the years the country has been gone and tapped into for your own use very easily.
If we take Sif's little sharpening ritual as an example of what a single wish worth of wishcraft looks like, the effects are pretty weak. To an outsider it's indistinguishable to what Siffrin would be able to accomplish naturally with a little more focus. And without any wishes having a chance to build up energy no one would get to actually witness the kind of things wishcraft can really do.
So to everyone else the people from the vanished country were probably seen as eccentric weirdos, an entire country of people constantly doing arcane good luck rituals that they swear by but don't seem to actually have any visible effects. And you can't replicate them yourself if you're a skeptic because they require belief.
And why would outsiders believe wishcraft to be real and use/document it when no one can actually prove it even exists?
This would also explain why astronomy isn't super well documented or highly regarded outside the island. After all It's the country that pretends freaking wishcraft is a thing do you really trust them on anything?

Do you have any info on the ISAT Audience of Vaugarde AU you'd be willing to share? (Only if you wanna!!) :o
I'm really curious about it, I have SO many questions
During the loops, Loop would only ever see the faintest signs of a presence, but nothing that'd confirm one. They always thought it was just a bad memory springing up, like a faint scent or the faintest whisper of a familiar voice. The Audience watched everything. Sometimes, some would follow behind Siffrin into the House, while someone else would remain with Loop at the Favor Tree. Loop was rarely ever left alone. I imagine that, whenever some would follow Siffrin, they saw things they would have rather not, but there's not much to do but chat amongst themselves and spectate. It does give perspective to what Loop may have gone through though, so it's not like they wouldn't Understand Loop by the time the loops were broken.
I have nothing to say about this, I just want to note that I need to draw the bad touch event someday with Loop and Isabeau just STARING from the tree like [Live Loop Reaction] and [Live Isabeau Reaction], it's really funny to me.
Nobody was really too sure what to call Loop during the loops, constantly hesitantly switching between names. Eventually Mirabelle suggested they just stick to Loop if they can't ask, so they did. But I'd like to imagine that, once before that, Loop had caught a close familiar whisper of "Siffrin" and felt... unwell.
AFTER 2hats but BEFORE Loop reappears in the world is what this first drawing is. It's Loop's "in this moment, you are loved," but it's so hazy that it might as well have been a dream for them. Think of it like how at the start of In Stars and Time, the star is shown being eaten, and Siffrin wakes up.
Loop's still in Vauguarde, but they have NO idea where they are when they wake up. Their head is human, but not the rest of their body. Their hair is long and tangled and greasy, as if their hair had always been growing just out of sight. Some sort of barrier has been broken between Loop and the Audience, so as the days pass, the voices slowly grow clearer, and Loop starts slowly... seeing things.
Loop needs somewhere to stay, so an older woman lets them stay at her house. Let's call herrrr... Smithing One?? This is only a temporary arrangement.
If I draw Loop with really messy greasy hair and little to no clothing, that's the stage in which Loop is deeply afraid of any sign of the Audience's company. Example from a previous drawing:
Tumblr media
If I draw Loop with hair slightly better taken care of and in a headband holding the overgrown middle piece back, Loop's now tense and nervous around the Audience but won't panic anymore, and will often communicate back. (Note: don't interpret this as Loop not liking them! Loop loves them very deeply and suffered a lot of grief, there's just a lot of feelings of fear and reopened wounds clashing.) I think maybe partway through this stage, Loop leaves Smithing One's house to go travel. Example from a previous drawing:
Tumblr media
There is a stage I haven't drawn yet where Loop is entirely happy with the Audience and a lot more healed. I'm guessing Loop will have a high ponytail, and some hair accessory holding back the middle piece or something like that. I would like to draw that at some point.
After learning that Loop can't handle being called Siffrin and is only settling for the mild discomfort "Loop" brings, Odile will start calling them Little Crow, as per chipper-smol's reply:
Tumblr media
I'm out of things to mention honestly, feel free to ask whatever you want
OH yeah. By the way, I do want Loop and Siffrin to reunite at some point, I'm just not sure how yet... The thing is, the Audience isn't actually ghosts. They're LIKE ghosts, but they're not dead. As I've said, Loop's first wish to stay with their friends simply merged with their second wish for help, so the Audience is more so just oddly disconnected from reality. Maybe after a lot of time has passed, the Audience is so tangible that anyone can see them, even if they have a little bit of an off air to them (and maybe they still can vanish at will). So... surprise! Siffrin's party would eventually realize that they ALSO have alternate versions of themselves walking around. Ohhh wait, wouldn't it be fun if one accidentally met their clone in a public place before ever even being aware of Loop's supposed "audience"? And Siffrin never wanted to talk about Loop's business to his family, so they never even found out what Loop was at all? Something in me tells me that it'd be most fun for it to be the Mirabelles to spot each other first
...............okay, now I'm out of things to mention

Hands you a mic. Talk about the religions in ISAT please.
fumbles with the mic as the suddenly spotlight floods from above with a click
ohhh there's so much to talk about with this!!
as i said here, there's actually a bit of an overlap of between the change belief and the universe belief. it can only be expected, of course; the two countries are extremely close in proximity and beliefs of different cultures that have some trace similarities, often even started off from the same base source, a bit like languages!
to sum up the similarities from that post, both the change god and the universe have to do with fate and your place in the world. they're about leading you through life, offering protection and support during your journey through life and its avenues.
that's not to say these religions don't clash; first off all, the change god clearly has some divine beef with the universe and we'll get to it, but besides that there are certainly some foundational differences that you can see really well when the party examines the first key we can find - the circle key, the symbol of the change belief, portraying how everyone and everything belongs to this world.
siffrin can, after some time, question that even if the smaller circles are within bigger ones, the biggest one is not inside of anything. in their first reaction, and thus most honest one, they're quite indignant and ruffled about it, and even later throughout act 2 they seem wholly unconvinced.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this is of course because siffrin's faith has an explanation for it that the change belief lacks, although we don't learn about it until act 4, when they seem to not be able to hold it in anymore.
Tumblr media
that's the first crucial discrepancy - the thing inset into the belief in the universe is the sense of belonging to something bigger than you can imagine, bigger than your mind can envelop. the change belief seems, in contrast to that, more cozy, approachable. this fits well with the concept of the houses of change that serve kind of as community centers for help and self-betterment, and with the housemaidens that serve as examples, help others fulfill their goals or help them get better, be it skill- or health-wise.
(the rest of this long ask response is under the cut for care of mobile users that can't use the J hotkey)
the change belief is about providing you with safety during your inner journey so that you can become your better self. it doesn't need anything bigger than the world because the world is where all the people are. the universe belief needs the world where everything and everyone is to be within something else because it's about trusting something bigger than you is in charge of your fate and keeping you on track.
i said this already in the other post, but the change belief largely focuses on your end goal. you can take any road you want, in any length of time you require, and take any measures you want in order to achieve change. in the end, what matters is that you've achieved it. the universe is completely the opposite here - it values your journey and your experiences during it, it leads you so you can safely follow it, and you'll end up where you're supposed to be because of that.
Tumblr media
the universe, unlike the change god, in not an advisor; it requires your blind trust and perhaps baseless faith, and honestly this might be why the change god mocks the universe as a god that doesn't even talk to you.
Tumblr media
they explain pretty well why the time loop goes against their nature; after all, the end goal slips from the story's grasp every time. they don't care for all the fluff between the points on the map, they want the result most of all. this ceaseless wandering is not their domain; it's the universe's. the change belief needs the possibility of change and evolution and the universe requires you to follow and journey both inward yourself and outward to the world to know and understand both—
HA! I HAVE TRICKED YOU AND LULLED YOU INTO A FALSE SENSE OF SECURITY!!! THIS POST IS ACTUALLY A HIT PIECE ON THE KING
if you really think about it, the king goes against the principles of both the religion of the country he grew to call his new home, and the country he hails from. him freezing vaugarde stops everyone from changing, making them stay exactly the same forever, but that part is clear from the text and rebuked by the party, especially by mirabelle. however, his wish also stops everyone and himself from advancing forward, from continuing the journey. he clings onto the scraps of the past with fear and desperation and is too scared to just trust the universe to lead him into a life that's different but no less good. he'd doubly a hypocrite.
if you can't take my word for it, siffrin's might do. after the event of the king trying to coax them into saying the name of the northern island with him, regardless of what you pick, this is how siffrin, who seems to be a pretty devout believer in the universe, seems to sum it up.
Tumblr media
siffrin in general seems to have accepted that his home is gone - not in that he doesn't care or that he made peace with it but in that he is fully aware nothing can bring back what's been lost. it's gone forever and that's that.
(honestly that sense of finality seeps into even things that are far from being concluded often and siffrin overdoes it by accepting his conjectures as final truths that can't be changed. but that's neither here nor there)
the king twists the fact his wish got granted into approval rather than a tool for his journey, a goal that the universe sets you out in. because that's what wishes are - the universe sets and reroutes a path towards them for you, braids your fate in such a way that it's bound to come true. no wish in isat, when granted, gives you something material; you can't just ask for a new bike and have it materialize in front of you. the granted wishes, siffrin's and the king's, most prominently, aren't granted for their own sake. instead, they assist them in leading them to the fate that was preordained for them; the king, at the cost of being frozen himself, gets to remember all he lost and keep it with him forever in that form, and siffrin's wish, as broken as it is, makes him realize him and his family can and will stay together. you get exactly what you need to self-actualize as best as possible while enroute to the resolution of your wish. but the journey is the resolution, the process is the reward itself. that's what the universe's deal is.
(as for the expressions, we get very little on them but they seem the most typical to the pantheon of gods we're familiar with. they remind me a lot of the muses; an essence you seek guidance in that you hope will imbue you with its domain.)
thank you sooo much for giving me space to ramble about this ake you're the best ╰(*°▽°*)╯

✦ DAY 126 ✦
So I WAS going to do another meme today but I finished Great God Grove yesterday and had a GREAT (pun intended) idea for how to turn Siffrin into a God from that game and HAD to put my idea to paper.
Here they are! The God of Acting, Siffrin! I tried to come up with a unique name, but couldn't, haha.
Some design notes below the cut!
Firstly, I wanted to make sure they had no proper "face", instead replaced by a rotating set of masks, that all showcase a different set of emotions. So, for example, one is happy/positive emotions, one is sad emotions, one is angry emotions, etc.
Their "wizard" garb is a fun play on "stage magic"! Had to make sure Siffrin had their iconic look so I'm happy this worked out.
I wanted to focus on "duality" a bit for other elements, such as the sun and moon in the inside of their hat.
The sun's rays are supposed to be a little bit like a spotlight! I like to imagine when they're feeling more negative, their hat droops the other way, making the moon more prominent, instead.
Their cloak is supposed to look like stage curtains!
Their body is basically just a floating torso, made up of a black void, dotted with stars. Fun play on the word "star" meaning multiple things + of course, it's Siffrin. So. There has to be stars SOMEWHERE.
I also like that their body is hidden behind their cloak most of the time, as a representation of the "man behind the curtain", heh.

hi i was raised in a home daycare for over 20 years and studied child development and psychology in school for 3 and would like to gush about why i love how bonnie was written and how they're one of the few kids in games i've played that Actually Feel Like a Kid:
Tumblr media
firstly: bonnie's diction
bonnie cursing like a sailor is honestly pretty accurate for a kid aged like 9-14 and i distinctly remember having a huge cursing phase of my own at that age too so LMAO
they ask a lot of questions adjacent to a kids' understanding/confusion of things, social norms, situations, feelings, etc. (the conversation about the actors kissing in that play they saw and how they MUST have had an invisible paper between their lips because nobody would REALLY kiss on stage in front of everybody!)
they can be incredibly blunt but often not with the intention to hurt feelings rather than genuinely acquire information (sometimes with some sass b/c of previous conditioning.) ex. "Our teacher always tells us we have to speak up more... You're an adult so why don't you speak up more?" (Precedent/Conditioning; "Adult in position of power and authority has ingrained it is important to use my voice." -> "Why don't you, an adult who should know better, use yours more then?")
they have a tendency to confidently and casually use words and phrases they don't fully understand or know ("Air-no-no-nomic" -> this especially being something picked up by a fellow kid and just trusted that) (struggling to say, "pomegranate" (very cute watching odile help them with it :,) ) (struggling to say onigiri -> purposely messing this up to get a playful reaction out of dile, a party member they're especially close to, was also very sweet)
it's hard to discuss feelings. they're more likely to use a vessel as a means of connecting to someone else before being able to assign words to everything (offering a peach to siffrin in the classroom because they recognize he's upset without fully understanding why, then waiting for him to address the situation)
secondly: how bonnie handles feelings towards the others and about their Scenario
tendency to hold onto hard, serious, difficult-to-breach subjects and then explode and scream when addressed (ex. Rotten Adults quest)
slightly more partial to physical touch than verbal affirmation (hugs, hugs, hugs! including the little half-hugs they do where they just run into siffrin's side...)
jabbing siffrin in the stomach as a show of example for touching them LMAO???
recounting stories and information that interests them without regard for how socially appropriate it is or why others may react poorly (ex. talking to the party about how nille ran away with them and why she did)
unspoken guilt and trauma causing disconnection from people they love (siffrin's eye situation)
just a few examples and thoughts i liked
