Ok now for big Project Time!!!

I am in the process of editing and revising my first Youtube video! This has been an on and off dream of mine for like 7 years at this point, but I've finally taken the plunge and gotten to work on a channel. I wanna talk about all sorts of fandoms (including the riordanverse ofc) With videos ranging from plot and character analysis, to trends in fandom culture in general, to fun little ranking videos and speedpaints. All around, I just want the channel to be a fandom hive, where everyone can find something they enjoy.

I already have PNG's created of my sona to use as assets (And I have a sparkly new sona, the one in the pic above!) and I have two finished scripts, with the first one being fully recorded as well! One for my first video, which will be a retrospective on Gravity Falls, and one for a video about the Percy Jackson TV show, the inherent differences between TV and books as mediums, how I think the TV show could improve, and the things I think it got perfectly. I also have a bunch more ideas, such as:

BIG Trials of Apollo video essay, with a focus on how the books and the fandom have effected me over the years.

Ranking all of my favorite characters from all of the media I've been a fan of over the years (This would be over 70 characters)

Explaining the Iliad, but make it funny (with a side of Troy apologia)

Reading Lore Olympus and pointing out how it deviates from myth (the things I'm willing to do for you people /j)

Canon vs. Fanon, where I compare a characters canon characterization with their fanon counterpart and try to figure out how things turned out the way they did.

And more, but I don't want this post to be 5000 words long.

Now here's the big question. As I said in the part above, I'm struggling a bit now money-wise. And I really wanna make this project work, but there's also, you know. Tuition. Rent. Food. Stupid other adult stuff. So if anyone is amenable (and this is totally up to demand, I don't wanna pressure anyone into doing anything!) I was also thinking of maybe making a Patreon. Now, I'd have to do research for this, bc I wanna make sure anyone who signed up would get the right rewards and really get the bang for their buck. I'm pretty sure there's not gonna be much interest in this rn, cuz like, I'm not that big of a blog oof. But if anyone is interested! Here are some of the perks I would definitely be implementing! This ones a bit complicated, but I want to create a cover of a song that has to do with each video to play during their outros. So like, for the gravity falls video, I'm gonna record a quick cover of the Disco Girl song from the show. Only a small section of the song would be in each video, but patrons would get access to the full covers, and be able to request songs to be covered.

Discounts on commissions

A monthly speedpaint that would be exclusive to patreon. Patrons would be able to vote on what the drawing would be.

All of these ideas I'm 100% sure I want to add to a patreon if I make one, but obv there could be more that comes up later. I'm just gauging interest on this idea rn, so let me know if that's something you'd be down to sign up for! Maybe I'm jumping the gun here but I'm just really excited to create and give back to the community and aaahhhhh

Now, no matter what, I'm gonna have this first video out by mid-September at the latest. Because stupid money troubles are not gonna stop me from making this a thing dangit. So look out for that, I'll link the vid here when it releases! But I am just really stressed rn and any support would go a long way towards making this dream come true. I DON'T WANNA DERAIL YOUR ESSAY POST, SO apparently! the problem with Horde-side RP being "be a belf or gtfo" is no longer an issue?? at least that i could see? i remember the 8 billion and 1 belf OCs and like 2 of everything else back in My Day (MoP/WoD/Legion era), but i've been dipping my toes back into the WoW RP scene recently and afking in RP-Side Org (WrA) reading TRPs, and like............. belfs (and now helfs. and now nightborne. and now any half thereof) are the SHOCKING minority! but there's TOOOONS of everything else. TOOOOONS of trolls of ALL stripes (not just Darkspear or Zandalari), TOOOOONS of vulpera. TOOOONS of orcs (every clan, main Draenor and WoD Draenor), a SHITTON of forsaken. not a lot of pandarens though, comparatively. belfs/helfs/nightborne tho? usually only about 3~4 of any combination, in a sea of AT LEAST 30 different people at any given time

and i can't even say "but they're probably RPing in SMC" bc apparently open world RP like that very nearly DIED in SL, and it STILL hasn't made a recovery, so there was only about 10~15 people RPing/trying to RP in SMC when i checked the other night. it seems we might've finally defeated the elf domination of Horde-side RP???

also! while you're right about pet battle weather status assets got me when no one else got me, Ailín's moon header is actually custom made! bc i just [clenches fist] LOVE making TRPs

That is super good to hear, yeah!! My only hope is that people who want to write elves aren't excluded from the greater Horde scene because that's what they want to play, which was always my bugbear when it came to Horde RP in general. You were either strictly with the 'elves' or you were with the rest of the Horde and none of them liked each other. I want to write my funky little dead girl in peace, okay!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I want to play my egomaniac Nightborne, idc if you're not an elf!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm also a sucker for Sin'dorei lore in general, so I do mourn it a little. Just a little. Broadly speaking I think the move is good because Blood Elf roleplayers are more often than not completely different from Horde roleplayers and that always made a rift. I think the Alliance has more synergy in community and that benefits everyone.

HUH. There you go. I didn't know you could even include custom-made assets! I love going wild with what TRP has as standard because you can do a lot of cool things with it and choose to link out to other spaces if you want. It's a fun little addon for sure.

I finally decided what I'm going to do with this Tumblr Account! Aside from the typical reposts of my art, self-promotion and such, I'm going to use it primarily as a live, public diary of my adventure in Vtubing, streaming and content creation, so here goes my very first entry. I think I'm going to try to do this daily, at the very least I'll make one weekly and on big events.

Dear Tumblr,

it's currently 1:22 AM, 12/11/23. I've been interested in becoming a Vtuber for roughly a year now, and have slowly done tons of research, watched hours of Vtuber content for fun and advice, built up art and assets, came up with a new Sona design, customized models, and have spent hours upon hours of work making art and assets related to that goal. Boy they really don't tell you how much work it is to be a streamer/content creator, especially when you're broke and doing it all by yourself. Speaking of broke... I'm currently out of work, money is very low, and I'm very stressed out. I made the mistake of leaving my old job for a new one that I hoped would be a good opportunity, but I had to leave on day one for moral and public health reasons I won't get into. I have put in dozens of applications the last two weeks and have mainly only received automated emails; I have done 2 Zoom interviews for two different jobs, and then was never given a call or email back. My old job won't take me back for reasons beyond me. I admitted this in an OkayDonuts stream a day or so ago, and he said similar issues motivated him to start streaming. This gives me so much hope that I can have the great community and career success that he has that I so desire-If he could do it, so can I! Right? I just really like making stuff, I've always liked learning new techniques both physical and digital; crochet, clay sculpting, wood carving, painting, graphic design, 3D modelling/Texturing, game design. I wasn't good at much as a kid, but art was my passion, and the best part was seeing how happy it made other people. I just want to make cool things that make people happy and create a community of similarly creative people to share our passions and bring more kindness and cool creations into the world. I don't want to be an uber rich Mr. Beast level celebrity, I just want to make enough that I don't need a menial job I suffer at. Simply making a decent living in this world off my art would be a blessing, it would be so much better for my mental health. Speaking of which, if you're reading this....did you know I take commissions? Please commission me, I hungy :'( But seriously, as of writing this, I have $43.20 in my bank account. My phone bill alone is $45. My partner and I have family support, so we'll get by ok, but the struggle and having to ask for help is really getting to me. On the bright side, since we should count our blessings- I have a really nice microphone since my partner tried streaming a couple years ago and is letting me use it whenever I need! I have a really good laptop from my college days that can run everything I need without getting TOO overwhelmed. I have a really good drawing tablet that I bought a couple years ago when I was doing a little better financially (It's much easier to save money when you're living with your parents and work 40 hours a week for $13/hr and your parents pay for everything) Losing my job may be a blessing in disguise because In my stress I have gone into a manic state and began going crazy getting my custom stream Overlays done, fully animated Stream Opening, BRB and Closing Screens, stinger transition animation, a functioning PNGTuber, and multiple drawings/animations for alerts/emotes/rewards/etc. and yes that includes things I didn't know I needed to be a Twitch Affiliate to even use...lol...I'm currently working on an animated lore video for my debut that I will also record a voice-over for. Lastly, a more recent thing-My partner found a gamer chair in the dumpster at our apartment last week after I had spent a couple months trying to find one-the cheapest ones on Facebook Marketplace in our area were like $80-and it's in near perfect condition, only a bit of scuff/rip on the seat and arm rests. How crazy is that? I gave it a good scrub-down and its good to go. I choose to take that as a sign from the universe that I'm on the right path. Wish me luck! With lots of love, Kaeru Kobold

So while I wait for my iPad to return from war (getting the battery replaced and waiting for my sister to send it back) I’ve been forcing myself to use my desktop-based programs again.

And first of all

I still can’t help but love sketchbook pro - aka autodesk sketchbook. I really wish they could bring the old extras and asset/brush packs back. ;; and I wish more people used it!! The UI is very minimalistic, kinda like procreate, but it doesn’t have as many features. It was the program I used as a beginner digital artist so it will always be special to me, and it’s probably why I ended up getting along with Procreate’s UI as well as I did. I personally enjoy using it to make new brushes and general doodling and I can’t imagine ever abandoning it completely. (Though that said, I really wish they still had a way to download it as a regular exe program from the browser instead of having to install it via the windows app store. That caused me such a headache earlier today when trying to configure my tablet settings.)

I will always adore Medibang but its another one I wish more people used and made custom assets for. ;; Someone on DA used to sell medibang brushpacks but they’ve since deactivated their DA so those are wiped off the planet now. I also don’t think they offer the roller/ribbon as a brush type anymore?? Which sucks bc that was one of the cool things about their brush engine. I also don’t like that they lock a lot of their assets behind a paywall now. But such is the way of the world ig.

While CSP is a little overwhelming and the brush engine is difficult for me to navigate at times, I see why so many people love it. The asset store is way too much fun and I’ve downloaded a ton of free brushes for it. I’ve also done my best to customize the workspace in a way that looks clean and spacious. Though replicating my basic brushes is def proving to be difficult due to how overwhelming the brush settings are. I also find the names they use for things and the process by which you organize your brushes to be a little strange?? But even so, it works. I do plan to experiment with it more in the future and maybe it’ll grow on me.

I haven’t used SAI enough to have a truly thorough opinion of it but I can’t deny that I love the brushes and UI. It’s a classic for a reason and I def plan to experiment with it more since it’s been way too long since I’ve used it.

Game Dev Year in Review 2024

Hey folks! Its been a very busy and very fucked up year, hasn't it? Can't wait for it to be over! This isn't about my personal life, though, this is about games! Things I've learned, and things I've actually gotten done! I'll mostly either be linking to things and giving brief descriptions about each thing, so if you want to learn more, click into the other posts! Let's get started, shall we? FARM FPS PROTOTYPE At the beginning of the year, I made a prototype for a Farming game mixed with Tower Defense and FPS DNA! Out of everything I did this year that ended up on the "maybe I'll think of something or find the assets for it" list, this was definitely one of the ones I'm proudest of! It was the only thing this year that I both learned a lot from, and that i was confident I could get worked out without a reasonable amount of banging my head off a wall! The feedback I got from friends was generally positive as well. It's on the list of stuff I want to flesh out, for sure.

MAKING A GAME ON A STEAM DECK

This ended up being a video, and I never ended up making a blog post about it, but when I had gotten my steam deck in the middle of the year, I had tried to make a full game for a game jam on it! I ended up scrapping the game midway through due to having to nurse an arm injury i got through work, but the conclusion was that making a game on the steam deck is very possible! Just make sure you set yourself up first at a desk with peripherals and not just using the deck by itself.

MULTIPLAYER CAR GAME PROTOTYPE

Over the Summer, I had the idea to start working on something with multiplayer, and inspired by a friend and I's semi-frequent return to Fortnite, I thought it would be fun to have a little multiplayer car arena game! Or so I thought. Turns out, Multiplayer programming is really, really hard! I had been fooled by the documentation into thinking that it was going to be mostly straightforward. It wasn't. I had fun making stuff work, and getting my friends onto the server to playtest the first real network test with me, but other than that, not sure if I want to return to this without re-starting learning it from the ground

DEAD RINGER | MAKING A HORROR GAME IN ONE WEEK!

After failing and failing and failing to get my prototype together, I had decided enough was enough and I wanted to make something I knew for sure I could finish. I picked a game jam and rolled with it, and I came out with this; Dead Ringer! A small game about surviving the night with a monster that gets angry at noise in the mansion. Huge shoutouts to all my friends for being there and pushing me to the finish line, and for helping with bits and pieces! In the end, this project got a #4 overall placement in the jam, and barring a few bugs, I'm very proud of it! I wonder if it's worth revisiting…

FORTNITE CREATIVE WEEKLONG BENDER

There was a point in the last month where I was so burnt out on life and so tired of not feeling like I can get into any groove, and at the suggestion of a buddy, decided that Fortnite Creative was to be my new outlet. It didn't last long, but was an interesting use of my time! Genuinely, I came out of it pretty positively! The short of it is that Fortnite Creative lets you make stuff without needing to do much thought; Epic provides a lot of tools for people to make custom game logic without needing to open up and learn anything about Verse if they don't want to. I was impressed by the ease of use of Creative, but just as equally turned off when I tried to use Verse. I wish everything would just use standardized languages, like C# or Lua or something.

That's it, that's the whole year! I learned a lot this year, and I'm hoping that the next year has a lot of fun game development stuff in store for me! I also hope to make more stuff, try to kick my ass in gear a little more so my posts aren't too far apart from each other. Thanks for reading, and see you all next year!

I want to talk about this controversy a bit more in depth First for people who may not be able to tell: Lego Monkey Kid was first animated by the Australian studio Flying Bark Productions, which has been around since the 1960's and has a long history of successful local and international commercial work and tv shows. most notionally they worked on Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Marvel's What If..?, a short film I personally love: My Jumper It Roars, among other things.

The studio has had decades to perfect it's style of animation which includes high action sequences, bright color use, motion, and recognizably unique designs. The flow of their scenes is so precise it's down to a science. This studio was the one responsible for Season 1-4 of Lego Monke Kid development. They are particularly skilled in cell animation and blending 2D centered characters/assets into 3D environments.

All of that is on display I think best with the season 3 trailer:

Now that's not a completely fair comparison to the new studio WildBrain. which is a much younger studio by comparison (Founded back in 2016). But their portfolio is just as visually interesting on it's own. With shows like Carmen Sandiego, Blaze and the Monster Machines, and Ninjago. Their studio specializes in 3D animation, especially styles like Vector Animation, motion graphics, and Screencasting. All beautiful styles and unique in their own right. Most people don't tend to notice the uniqueness of these styles of art, since the graphics move smoothly (if not smoother) than 2D cell animation, but it's incredibly noticeable in the joints of a character's body and the jaw movements.

Now watch the Season 5 trailer, notice how the characters heads move, their limbs are more stiff, the movements of the jaws are more vertically aligned. The conversation between Mei and Red Son show this the most. The multi-headed bird monster also does this, and the look Sun Wukong gives to Macaque shows where the "body parts" are independent from each other.

Compare the Season 5 trailer to Azure Lion's introduction in the season 4 trailer (00:33-00:56)

Now I'm never one to disparage artwork. Both styles are fantastic and it's clear Wildbrain is trying to keep up with the work Flying Bark put in. But it's incredibly obvious the Lego Corporation is cutting corners where they can.

And that hurts a show's quality, audience, and customers. By downgrading the animation from it's original studio to a younger (and left be frank here Cheaper) Studio and crew; the company is hoping people will still be interested in their products, and the hype that was there before will keep on track. They are hoping for complacency, "it is what it is", and toxic positivity to carry their business through this budget cut.

Why should I care about a show and toy line when the people financing it are not willing to put their money into making it better, grander?

The animation was the key factor for me to watch the series, to start buying Lego's again. I've known Journey to the West from the early days of anime. But the AU of this internationally important novel is not enough to keep me as a regular viewer, when the company is willing to cut the most visually fun artwork down to paper cutouts.

My argument boils down to my gripe with AI: why should I watch something when it's clear the people green-lighting and Financing the show don't care about it? Why not delay season 5 until Flying Bark studio could commit to more seasons? Movies and Tv shows have been pushed back for more petty reasons that scheduling conflicts.

Lego Monkie Kid is a product.

I don’t intend to make any more posts of this style for some time, but I’d like to put this out here for everywhere:

Lego Monkie is a paid-for product. You can buy it through Amazon, watch it on the Lego Channel with ads, import the comics from China, etc.

You pay for it. It’s not something put into the world for free. It is a product that people consume with their time or money.

It’s not something made with only time and love.

Lego Monkie Kid is a paid-for product with thousands of dollars worth of tie-in merch.

It is not bad; and will never be bad, to criticize the products you consume. We do not have to blindly consume for the sake of animators, or for the sake of a show.

Do not tell people to ‘just be happy’. Do not tell people that ‘the animators are just trying to feed their families’. Do not tell people to ‘just get over it’. Do not tell people that they’re ‘being ungrateful’.

People are allowed to form opinions of changes, whether negative or positive- especially when it is a product they pay for.

People are going to have negative feelings and thoughts and emotions. You are not a knight or a soldier. You get nothing out of standing guard against even the slightest scrap of unhappiness.

Toxic positivity solves nothing in the long run. You can’t just complain people’s upsetness away. You can’t kiss disappointment like a wound and expect it to heal.

People are upset about a downgrade in quality in the product that they pay to consume.

And that’s okay.

Stop telling them it isn’t.

Final Unity project.

Fairly easy. Started with a blank scene, added a huge plane, put on a grass texture, added a car, which I found out through running the game functioned as a player character. I then decided that my game would be a top-down car thing.

So, I raised the camera and rotated it so that it pointed straight down at my car and my plane. From there I decided that my "ground" needed to look like a road, so I went to the asset store: https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/2d/textures-materials/roads/road-materials-137087

I downloaded some road textures and put one down on my plane. I noticed that the controls for the car were fairly difficult to use, and that this fact combined with the limitation of the fixed camera meant that I could make a game of directing the car to knock objects off-screen until none remained.

So, I went to the asset store again: https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/3d/props/exterior/road-props-low-poly-123340

I downloaded a bunch of low-poly, road-themed props which I then began to place into my game. The presets I used came loaded with their own physics and everything so all I had to do was put down some objects for my car to knock off-camera. For some reason, all of the objects and the car were incredibly small at first, so I scaled them all up until I found them visible enough on-screen. The rubber pad objects had a tendency to send the car flying when approached from the wrong sides, so I decided to include them as sort of landmines which the player would have to avoid/remove carefully.

From there I felt it was time to customize the car, so I applied a grass texture from the standard-unity assets. It looked pretty badass. For some reason the car's sound scripts did not work, and I tried to get them working by looking at the right tab and seeing if there was anything wrong with them, but I couldn't tell. I followed up on that red error you're seeing at the bottom of the screen, and navigated to the problem file, but I couldn't figure out where to go from there and googling the error didn't get me any further answers. I tried just dragging and dropping the script onto the car, but that did not work either. I tried dragging the audio files onto the car, but that just made them all play once simultaneously on startup. So, I let the sound be.

I was trying to think of a way to spice up my creation further so I put down a couple palm trees just as an obstacle which could not be moved and had to be navigated around.

Looking at it, I thought it would be cool to assign a story to the odd scenario I had created, so I imagined that the grass had gained consciousness, brought the car to life parasite style, and organized with the palm trees to take back nature and fight what they saw as pollution.

Also, at some point I lost the rightmost menu, and I have no idea what caused this, but it quickly put a stop to any further experimentation.

So, I was ultimately able to design and build a basic videogame in unity. It runs full-screen and is playable in its current state. There's a video of Ty playing it above if you're interested. Personally, I had the most fun just coming up with a story to justify what was happening on-screen, even though there was no requirement on that front.

If I were to sell it, I'd call it "Grass Car". Buyers would line up, man.

Hello guys and girls!!!

Last week I had to travel to Barcelona to attend one of the porn biz event. It was great; the usual party with a lot of porn stars, producers and of course fans. I could say hello to people I didn’t see since before the global pandemic. It was fun but, as always, a bit stressful. I had to organize a stand for my studio and plan the travel for some of my staff, myself and of course several of the girls who currently work mainly for me. We are the “Apostles for the bra busters” movement and had to share our message with the world XD.

The weather and the food, as usual in Spain, was great. We were in a huge hotel with a reserved area only for adults, so we could enjoy the Spanish sun: nudity was allowed in the swimming pool and open zones. You could see a lot of naked skin but if you think about it, is not so weird, our bodies are our working tools and in these parties we have to show our assets to potential customers and investors.

During my lunchtime I met Lee, and we shared a couple of drinks and a good talk.

The first time I saw Lee in person, I was still working as a camerawoman. And like everybody, I found her fascinating. Lee is incredibly sexy, stylish and curvaceous. Her looks reminds you of a busty hot Marilyn, and she is always very polite, well-dressed and with a huge sense of etiquette and social behavior. Since that moment, I have worked with her several times. Sadly, she is not a full time porn actress and only sometimes she accepts to film soft-core scenes. I know she is really busy with her Bimbo Academy, her own erotic content and her exotic dancer job at Le Paradis in Paris. 

Lee told me she was in Barcelona meeting a couple of new “students” for her academy and to close deals with people in the beauty and fashion industry. Most people probably are not aware of this, but Lee is an amazing couturier and has created her own fashion company.

I really find her sexy and attractive, and I think she is a great example of how a true bimbo should look. Despite her huge implants and big butt, her thick lips and face jobs, she has a good balance of femininity, beauty and sexiness. I find most bimbos a bit extreme, a bit trashy. 

We talked about several things.

Speaking about the porn industry in general, she admitted she doesn’t like it. She is not a porn user and find it very disgusting and degrading. And ugly. It is true a lot of scenes are a bit hard and messy but porn is a fantasy after all, and we have to do it. A more sophisticated porn, with good environments, clothes, situations, … sadly, is a thing from the past, when you could do a film knowing it wouldn’t be for free in the global net hours after the release. Now we have to do a lot of scenes to monetize them, and that is like fast food. Now also there are more porn performers than ever, so prices in the industry are going down and down. If the “scenario” is more expensive than the performers, that is not a good way to make money. I realize I haven't put my Felix's backstory up, so here's a good time to do that:

The Culpa family actually has no bloodline relation to the Agreste name brand at all - rather, its a textile company that creates the best fabrics and patterns for the discerning eye on the fashion market.

Felix's mother was a really good friend of Emilie, and they would often make a lot of brand deals together based on friendship rather than legalities, because of course who was gonna split up two powerhouse besties? not their husbands! that's playing with fire babey!

When Emilie went missing, Mrs. Culpa was CRUSHED. She was one of the loudest voices in attempting to find her, and was flabbergasted as to why Gabriel wasn't in on the search efforts, instead just boarding himself up in his house, mourning like she was already dead. How could he know something like that if she just went missing, why is he acting like his wife is no longer in the picture if she's just missing?

Gabriel, in his colder line of thinking, began taking advantage of the Culpa company's kindness and dragging them into deals without their consent, riding on the coattails of Emilie's friendship. This did not go over well, because the Culpa family isn't made up of pushovers, and they were hurting just as much about Emilie's disappearance.

This led to a lot of... legal talk, and Gabriel being stripped of a lot of assets. He had to lean on Adrien's looks to get a lot of his repeat customers back after the fiasco that was 'the Agreste brand loses their best deal with the strongest Textile company in this hemisphere, sorry about the shit quality of your clothes now."

When the Culpa's found out Gabriel was taking this out on Adrien - because of course he is, who locks a boy in a tower with a bunch of crap like they're an easily soothed pet? - they offered an olive branch. Felix was interested in some classes in France, and he wanted to get a flavor for the area, since he's also big on fashion. If Gabriel hosts Felix (who'll act as eyes and ears for his parents on picking up clues as to what happened to Emilie) then they'll release some of their assets back to him. That shouldn't be hard for a man made of money, and especially not for Emilie's HUSBAND, and this way Felix can help out the young heir for the Agreste company, steer him away from being a total shit like his dad and give him a little bit of support at home.

That would be huge for the company if Gabriel can pull it off, not to mention Nathalie is buzzing in his ear constantly about the kind of funds they're losing looking for better quality fabrics among third party dealers. He just has to deal with what he assumed to be another Adrien in his house, and that should be easy enough, teenage boys are distractible.

Instead, he gets Felix Culpa, who was raised by his hawkish parents in the art of 'don't let anyone take advantage of your kindness, and shower your allies in it when you know they're worth it,' who is dealing with absolutely zero of Gabriel's nonsense but also has to live under his roof. (He really did promise his parents he'd find out what happened to 'auntie' Emilie.)

This is frustrating for both parties, one because Gabriel DOES have permission to ground Felix or whatever, he is the adult overseer, but the moment Felix decides he's being a total jackass, he gets to pull the plug on this textile deal, and GOD if Audrey finds out he fucked up another deal she'll yell at him till his ears fall off

in a nutshell, if Gabriel wants his company to not go under bc his ass is busy playing supervillain, he has to play the part of host for a teenager that thinks Gabriel was involved in Emilie's disappearance.

Well, I finished Future Redeemed. As a whole, I'm glad I experienced it. I think the self-contained story with Matthew and Nael was really good. I'm also very shalvis brainrot with A. I think my impression of Rex was just a bit too ruined by my distaste for Xenoblade 2, but his class is very fun. It sure is a shame for brainrot. I really wish there was a bit more time dedicated to Glimmer and Nikol. Their arcs were sort of glossed over, which bugs me because Glimmer was shaping up to be a really interesting character but then the writers sort of dropped it. Mio's family should start a band. Nael, Mio, and Glimmer would emotionally annihilate me. Nael's theme and Mio's themes alone already did that. And Glimmer has to be there because Cello Supremecy (I play cello :D!!). I like how this was just the world's most convoluted family road trip. Like, so we're clear, Glimmer is Rex's Daughter, Nael and Matthew are Rex's great great grandchildren. A is Pyra and Mythra's sibling, which makes them Matthew's second cousin technically. Meanwhile, Shulk is a recreation of Klaus more or less, which makes him Rex's brother-in-law technically. And Mikol is Shulk's kid. Phenomenal. Really liked the final boss theme too. I also have mixed opinions about Matthew. On one hand, I really like him. On the other hand, I really would have liked to see more of him since I don't think I fully warmed up to the character by the time the game expected you to. Or rather, I don't think it felt like he had proved himself as the rightful protagonist. I'll have to mull over it some more before I can put my finger on why exactly tho.

I also really loved the weapon aesthetics for the party this game. The designs and animations for them were just really fun. I don't think I got the chance to properly appreciate everyone's kits because I superglued myself to A, but I will want to replay this dlc some day, and when I do, I want to try out Glimmer, Rex, and Nikol. I think the gameplay here is overall a step down from 3 tho. A lot of my favorite things in 3's combat just weren't very applicable here, and I really dislike existence of the notifications in the exploration, since it just really drained the magic out of the world for me. Mainly, there really wasn't that wonder of "I wonder how much of the world is left for me to explore, cant wait to find out" that the first game and X really fucking captured for me. And with the combat, the lack of a class system and weaker character customization really downgraded my enjoyment. I think it's also that 3 managed to capture a specific magic for me with its complex yet understandable combat system that made slowly mastering it over the course of several hundred hours such a treat. Especially with how many options there were to approach any given problem. I literally spent a week straight grinding the final fight with N and managed to not get frustrated once nor did I ever feel the desire to lower the difficulty (by, like, not being horrifically underlevelled or changing the mode to anything but hard) because the game's combat system managed to reach this sweet spot where I both understood the cause of every death, had the room to adapt and evolve my strategies, and had room to tinker with character load-outs until I reached something I was satisfied with. The game just also just managed to make finding synergies, exploiting iframes, and finding unique valuable assets and mashing them together, that actually building the party felt really good. But also, the way the game uses iframes and leniency mechanics made them really satisfying to exploit. Stuff like, you could protect a character from dying by making them interlink, because they will survive at 1HP if they start that animation. Or timing the dodge abilities to match with big attacks. And utilizing chain attacks as a defensive tool. Having to calculate when the best time is to be on a specific character and when not to. These are all things I really enjoyed doing with 3's combat. But they weren't applicable to FR.

So, with party customization, it's going to be a lot more limitted than in 3 and I don't blame that, but I was caught off guard by just how much that disengaged me from the combat. I will say that I really liked FR's affinity system. I've always disliked the concept of EXP as a growth stat. It doesn't feel meaningful and it generally makes power levels feel rather arbitrary. I think Xenoblade X is the only game I can think of where I actually liked its inclusion and implementation, and even then, levels stop really meaning much of anything after a point. But Affinity does feel rewarding and meaningful. I like how it's a shared resource and the game asks you to distribute it wisely. I also like how it's tied to exploration and defeating optional enemies, granting a better reward for facing them. It's not an unheard of concept, it's literally just a skill tree, but I really hope Monolith continues to iterate on it in future games. I'm also a fan of the chain attack books. It was fun tinkering with them. I hope Monolith iterates on that concept. I also liked A's kit. I really like how you can heal allies and you can heal yourself, but you can't do both at the same time. I also really liked the ludonarrative yummies of how well A and Shulk synergize with each other. Also, I really like how A's kit embodies the supportive nature of the Monado in 1's gameplay, while Shulk's kit embodies his will to protect. But also, I really wish that Shulk's kit has a dodge button. It feels way less interactive spamming the Evasion Up art than it did using the dodge buttons in the dodge-tank classes in 2 and 3. I also felt like it was a bit frustrating trying to build up aggro on Shulk. The Unity Attack mechanics also felt less flexible than the Ouroboros Forms in application, even if they are more flexible in theory. The problem is that every Unity Attack is designed go be used against a launched target, which makes them so much less flexible. I also dislike the prevalence of damage over time status effects. They don't feel meaningful as an intended mechanic, but they basically render clutch plays where you keep two characters alive on 1HP null. It also really bugged me that A's AI is capable of using their talent art and there's no way to disable it. That oversight alone managed to kill my interest in the gameplay because it ruined any potential skill curve on using the character since every time you swap to check on someone else, there's a chance of A using their once-per-battle super-art at the worst times possible. This alone resulted in several deaths where I wanted to save Vision for a boss's big attack in Phase 2 but the AI was like "nah." Also if you die repeatedly, the game keeps prompting you to lower the difficulty, which did more to piss me off than help. As a general rule for game design, having those kinds of prompts show up repeatedly only really serves to shorten a player's fuse when frustrated.

I also think the Valak Mountain section fell into the trapping of "the plot is picking up massively so I don't want to go through these long gameplay sections, I want to know what happens next." I think all of the Xenoblade games fall into this issue or a similar one where at some point, I either get burnt out on the sidequests or too invested in the plot so I bombrush past the gameplay. I just felt it extra hard here because I went into the mountains with the wrong idea about how much game was left and I was eager to see the finale. Though, there were also external factors at play.

I also found the way the map was connected to feel a bit clunky. Specifically with the ether rails. It felt like the devs wanted to make a looping in world design but had to cheat a little to get there, which diminished the payoff of the loops. It felt clunky because the transportation felt unnatural as it often involved characters sliding up slopes at high velocity.

It's not that the exploration was bad in a way I disrespect, but I really hope that Monolith does not take its exploration mechanics in this direction for future entries.

Overall, I have some major issues with the dlc, but I'm still very happy to have experienced it.

•He said his teeth are mostly straight but he's thought about getting Invisalign. He's never had braces. He has a tiny gap in the left side of his mouth and his canines are longer and sharper (vampire arc). He's never had teeth surgery so has his wisdom teeth still.

•He thinks pineapple on pizza is good.

•He likes seafood like lobster and crab. He had crab made in an air fryer last night. He like peas. He thinks quesadillas are good and likes most food.

•He hates Coffee and most drinks

•The Dream Shorts team is Ken who is his personal reminder (Ken's main job is to spam him with texts so he doesn't forget things as he's got a habit of reading texts and not replying) and also comes up with a list of sets for Dream shorts. The builder is a friend and munchymc builder "his talent gets wasted on Dream's shorts but we pay him so"

•His editors are currently Dizzy, Firesale and Mjcr. Willz doesn't edit for him anymore

•The mask animation isn't done but Mask should be released May 21st. He wants to release them together as "the whole song is a double meaning and the whole nuance will be lost without the animation" but no matter if the animation is done the song is getting released on the 21st.

•He wants a home gym it's something he's willing to splurge on. They currently have a weight rack but they haven't even set it up.

•He's been debating Pride Merch because of Rainbow Capitalism. He doesn't want it too be seen as a money maker and if he does most proceeds would go to charity. He's currently super busy merch wise with Sapnap joining and George in the middle of joining. He did say "Only if the LGBTQ+ community in this community wants it" He thinks he's going to at least change the merch website to a pride one. Sapnap wants to make pride merch including a rainbow flame on his.

•He wants to create a charity that's centered around helping LGBTQ+ one day because he thinks that there's a lack of them. He mentioned that creating a charity was expensive and took a lot and was a complicated process including a board of directors but he wants to do it someday.

•He wanted to buy a bunch of houses in Florida which was a service to house mostly LGBTQ+ youth and people stuck in abusive households for free to get them out of bad home environments. But he didn't because he didn't want people thinking he was profiting of of abuse victims and LGBTQ+ community.

•He said he's terrible with time management and replying to people which is why Ken helps him (and also helps George and Sapnap). He mentioned how Sam messaged multiple times and Dream just forgot to answer but felt bad "I feel like people think I hate them..... Cause I'd be mad if people did that to me"

•He tries to reply to a few texts a day (community number). He also can't do birthday messages everyday because you can only reply at certain times so it's not abusing the system so if you get one it's special. He said he does try but it's got a weird time gap.

•Him and the manhunt winner are trying to come up with a good time to film

•He wants to stream this MCC on twitch and says his team is good.

•He talks about why he's not partnered with Twitch. Basically Twitch has a lock rate (in which you make money) and you legally can't stream on YouTube. So legally if Tommy wanted to stream on YouTube he couldn't. Someone then mentioned how Bad is a twitch partner but still streams on YouTube "Bad streams on YouTube but he has for a while and I don't think that he cares" - Dream

•He likes to reply to every donation he gets on stream and feels bad when he doesn't so he'll turn them off when he streams and wants a platform deal where he can be payed to stream (not twitch). If he gets a streaming partnership he will stream a couple of times a week. He looked in to Facebook but they don't have an alias system meaning you can see everyone's actual Facebook account and personal info, he doesn't like seeing real names on Facebook so it would require a lot of altering if he was to stream there so he's thinking it's probably going to be YouTube.

•He was asked about if his demographic was what he expected and he said he went in with no expectations, he didn't even know what stans were, wasn't really on social media so he wasn't aware of the fan culture. "You guys are a handful sometimes but it's worth it"

•He also mentioned how he and the DreamSMP changed the twitch audience demographic. It used to be male dominated in both streamers and audience and now it's almost split which is unheard on.

•He has 5 fidget spinners in his house. Two in his bedroom. Two in his office. One in the living room.

•He likes his Minecraft skin as he thinks the arm is cook and you never see the rest of his skin really. He says it's unique and different and "me". Dream: You can't even tell half the skins apart on MC.

•He's not lost the motivation to stream. Most of the times if he wants to stream he gets George or Sapnap to do it and he just turns up. It's more beneficial to them as they have donos and subs on. (Don't we fucking know it "can you say hi to")

•He has listened to Lovejoy. Says the ep was great and they're very talented and awesome. Doesn't know what his favourite song is but probably would pick One Day because the chorus slaps.

•RIP to acoustic Roadtrip. He said instead of acoustic Roadtrip we get Mask so no losses today for Dream stans.

•"With Roadtrip I went to Parker and I said Hey I have a story I want to tell through music. I have no experience with that can you help me" He said sure. He crafted the music and melodies and how things are formed where it's catchy. I have less comfort singing that. I love the song and it's my song, it's very representative of me and I'm sure I could sing it but it's a song I'd be kinds of scared to sing live, with Mask I basically did everything. I sat there the entire time and maybe an hour out if the 100 I wasn't in the call. Dream came up with the lyrics and main melody for Mask (First one he's ever come up with) "That was just notes in my fucking voice memos"

•The clip we heard of Mask was a prechorus not the actual chorus. He thinks he'd be more comfortable to do a mask acoustic and it's more melodic than Roadtrip. The chorus also has a lot of instruments similar to Roadtrip. Mask starts of slow and guitar with minimal reverb and is more raw.

• He doesn't want music to be his main thing. It's something fun to do and he's passionate about it as it's a way to express emotions. He wants to release mask then go from there. He wants to release at least one more song but has nothing on his mind currently. His two ideas were Roadtrip and Mask.

•He wouldn't quit his job to become a pizza delivery man.

•His favourite features on himself are eyes or freckles and he also confirmed that he does have eyebrows.

•He was told that Parkour warrior would be bought back some time in the near future and he got excited for it. "Even if I don't win, which I will, it'll be fun"

•Went on about his MCC team but I'm not going to put that in as we should be getting them today. He did say he wasn't on Pink but he did sound confused. (For reference he's always in Pink as it's the last team announced and keeps the hype up by announcing the biggest streamer last)

•Said he and his mum had the Mr Beast burger. He recommends because he likes the avacado. He mentioned how Mr Beast uses "Ghost Kitchens" which is basically where he gives restaurants permission to cook his food so it's restaurant quality food.

•His favourite piece of merch is the circle smile. (The pool photo on Instagram). He said the quality was bad (he worked with a different company and didn't have his own company) and it was elasticy feeling and he's planning on re-releasing it again but with good quality.

•He's started to send merch out in custom packaging. So his bags have the smile and will mostly be green. Sapnap's has the flame and is either black or white. He's also trying to make it so every order has the sticker packs for both him and Sapnap.

•He loves the coins as it's cheaper than a hoodie but still celebrates the milestones and will last a long time. He mentioned how the old coins are getting removed off the site and how if you have any of the coins your special because only a few thousand get made. He's kept around 100 of each coin that he wants to give away in person.

•He wanted to have a cool store where you could access computers that give you access to the DreamSMP in spectator mode. But it's too costly and would require too much time and isn't safe fight now. He doesn't think it'd be worth it financially.

•Most of the hoodie are black instead of multiple colours because of limited supply and covid. Getting the colours are harder because if the pandemic which hopefully won't be an issue soon.

•He wants to do a short meetup tour with Sapnap and George with a few locations in the US (and if others nearby want to join like Quackity or Karl they can). He also wants to visit Australia, UK, Canada, Mexico and Philippines and do something like that there but definitely at least visit with George and Sapnap.

•He's never been to the Philippines but his mum has. He wants to set up a place in the Philippines where he can ship merch in bulk and it would help to reduce shipping. However it would probably be big milestone merch.

•He's not got the vaccine yet but will get it when he needs to. He doesn't leave the house so he doesn't see the point.

•He's the ideas man. George's footcam video was Dream's idea. The T-shirt video was Dream's idea. Most if not all of the Dream Team's videos are Dream's ideas.

•Said he's got a similar/the same hair colour as Froy (Dream buddy at this point the only difference between you and Froy is that one of you is dating Richard Madden /lh)

Starhound: April Devlog

I've mentioned the RPGmaker game I'm working on a bit before, and since that's always gonna be pretty slow with me working full-time, I thought it'd be good to keep track of my pace with end-of-the-month progress posts. So! Here's what I've done in April.

(For the record, at the moment I'm actually planning on calling the game "Star Hound Vega", as the [Thing] [Descriptor] [Name] pattern is venerable among tokusatsu and mecha type heroes, but "Starhound" is my name for the setting and stories generally.)

Finished the first dungeon! It took more passes than I thought it would, as it always does, and I'm sure there'll be more tweaks in future, but I have now got to the point where I'm able to play through it and go "wow! that functions as intended without breaking! no notes"

2. Updated some sprites! Previously Vega's and Nemea's were just placeholders, but I've arrived at some that I feel pretty good about and represent them much better. Placeholders on the left, final sprites on the right:

I ended up using the "male" creator for Vega, which I think works great for creating butch women. (I have hemmed and hawed a bit over if I'm being Problematic by doing this as she is also the main trans character, however: I am a trans girl and I can do what I want. In seriousness, it is a bit of wish-fulfilment for me--I wish I could be more butch and masc-styled and be read as "a handsome woman" and not "a man", so Vega's living that dream for me. She's a hunk you get it)

I will definitely still need some kind of custom visuals for Vega's henshin hero suit, and Nemea (and her boss, Princess Ascella) when she appears as an enemy.

3. Diversified the music! So a fun thing about RPGMaker is you think you know the small selection of default assets it gives you, but if you dig around in the installed files there's actually a lot more free assets you can transfer in--from walk sprites and portraits from older versions of RPGMaker, to a whole bunch of extra enemy graphics, to a lot more music. In particular, I found some pretty sweet battle themes so now each boss can have its own! (This all mixed in with something I already grabbed right when I started making this--a pack of specifically old toku style music, which is really great for making it feel appropriately flavoured.)

4. Added a town area! The overworld is pretty limited in this, it's not so much travel as using a small consistent hub/base to rest between dungeons (if sequels happen they'll probably be bigger but I'm trying to keep a lid on the minimum viable product scope ykno), but there are a couple additional areas, so...now we have that!

Got to have some fun populating it with cute characters, which was nice.

5. Started the second dungeon! My main goal this month was to finish the first one, so it's nice to be ahead of schedule.

I've also figured out some really fun gimmicks for this one, so the first dungeon will serve mostly as a backdrop while you're introduced to the game's core mechanics, then this one will step it up and be more showy in its own right. Figuring out stuff like "oh you can have specific enemy encounters only happen on certain regions of the map" and "oh you can totally hide one-off boss fights inside random encounters" has got me to a concept I'm real happy with.

So yeah, that's where the game's at right now! For May, my main goal is just to finish the second dungeon, but we'll see where that goes. I plan on making a prototype build to toss at some friends once I've done a pass on the third dungeon (the total plan is for five, plus a final area after), but the third one is very short so I might even be able to do that in May too. But no pressure if the second is all I manage, that's the goal.

FireAlpaca - 2D Art Program, Animation. Where I make most of my digital art, and paint the frames for my animations :) It is free to use, and easy to learn and use! It can make basic animations as well, such as gifs. It requires download.

Krita - 2D Art Program. Professional, free digital paint software :) I have not used it before, though I have heard good things.

GIMP - 2D Art Program, Photo Manipulation. It's free to use, but I do not like it/recommend it highly. But! If FireAlpaca and Krita don't float your stoat, try Gimp! For 2D art, but also able to emulate Photoshop to a degree ^^

Inkscape - 2D Art Program. Free to use digital illustration software. Makes 2D art :)

Of course, who can forget classics like good old MS Paint, and the new and exciting 3D MS Paint, which can both be used to create some really neat things! Classic MS Paint is available here in browser form! If you need that. I just think it's neat!

Art AI

Petalica Paint - Coloring Software. An in browser, watercolor manga style coloring software, which can (almost) effortlessly color in any of your line art pieces! I've played around with it for my Thorn illustration style piece, and enjoyed it! It is free to use, and can take user input to make the colorations more precise.

ArtBreeder - 3D Realism Software. Using Artbreeder, you can create lifelike images of your paras, planets, or potentially even fursona, using the intricate AI they let you work with for free! A premium version exists, but most functions are fully usable without - though I recommend donating ^^ You can randomly generate, or prune and shape what you make until its perfect! Slow to use and get the hang of, but very worth it! Artbreeder is also pioneering an intriguing animation software to go alongside their product! Browser based.

3D Software

Blender - 3D Modeling, Animation. The best (in my opinion) free 3D modelling software.

Can support ports of many kinds of assets, including, I believe, those from Blender, and of course those that are downloaded. DA has a bunch of old MMD communities you can raid for assets!

Animaze - Face Rigger. Use 3D models and a webcam to watch your paras talk! Models can be made in Blender, downloaded online, or even from CHARAT V, CHARAT GENESIS sister app!

Character Creators

CHARAT GENESIS - 2D Character Creator. Browser based anime style character creator, with multiple crops and poses, and infinitely customizable options. It is legitimately insane. Has a 3D function called CHARAT V which can apparently convert characters made in CHARAT GENESIS into 3D models compatible with Face Rig and Animaze!

V-Katsu - 3D Character Creator. Free on steam! Anime style, intensive character creator, by the same people who made Koikatsu, and Koikatsu Party, two amazingly detailed 3D hentai makers. While V-Katsu is a SFW VTuber maker, if you're looking for NSFW anime content, you could always spend roughly $70 on the full NSFW versions. V-Katsu requires a translation mod (free online as well) which you have to install, or the ability to read Kanji <3 Works with VR tech.

V-Roid Studios - 3D Character Creator. Free on steam! Anime style, fairly in depth character creator, that allows for some degree of digital 3D hand sculpting, particularly with their amazing hair engine, to get your paras looks perfect!

And, of course, Picrew has thousands of character creators of various styles and quality uploaded by the artists who made them! Also, honestly I think we as a society should embrace making dinky chibis in Gacha Life. IDK why everyone is mean to the gacha kids, like we weren't all cringe at some point,

World Design

HomeStyler - 3D and 2D Room Designer. Make a model of an interior for a home or building, using real 1:1 furniture of IRL brands! Apparently this is free to use, though there is a premium version, and  it offers 3D and 2D models.

Map to World - 3D Planet Maker. Turn your fantasy world into a 3D model of the planet. Put maps directly on, or design the surface and textures of your world. Takes a lot of getting used to, but it is AMAZING. Free to use, and browser based!

PlanetMaker - 3D Planet Maker. Make a customized 3D planet! Free to use browser site! I have never used this, but I would love to mess around with it sometime! Allows you to add orbital rings, change textures, and more at the click of a mouse.

If on sale, I also recommend snagging a copy of the Sims, particularly 3 or 4, for character creation and world design. Maybe not the best gameplay without mods, but it's also a load of fun, and very easy to add custom content to! Minecraft also. But you just need Minecraft, in general. Beyond its ability to fairly faithfully recreate structures from your paracosms, it's just Good.

Audacity - Record and Edit Audio. What can't Audacity do? I love Audacity to death. At surface level, it records audio. I've used it to record voices for my paras, and get audio for animations and games I've worked on. I cannot recommend it enough. Comprehensive editing, and with some investigation, it can do so, so much more than just record simple dialogue.

FL Studios - Compose. Compose music with an unlimited free trial. Upgrades available for purchase!

Indie Game Music - Royalty Free Music Library. Free to use Indie Game Music. What it says on the box!

AudioJungle - Royalty Free Music and Audio Library. Thousands of free to use audio clips!

Online Piano - Someone could use this, for recording, or just messing around. I've seen plenty of paras who play piano, this could just be used for fun!

Tips and Tricks

Animation Done Easy

Our forefather's of internet animation used MS Paint, Windows Movie Maker, and Audacity. All of these, or their equivalents, are free on standard computers. I, personally, use FireAlpaca - which works just as well, if not better, than MS Paint for animation - but takes longer, and definitely lacks that retro feeling. I also use my trackpad to draw and animate everything, so its doable, but probably not totally comfortable, to animate like this for most people :)

Juvenile and Family Law, is it something that a kid dreams of practicing? No, not really. Is that where the big bucks are if you’re not interested in taxes and wills? Yes, it is. Harry Styles is good at his job, and is on the brink of making partner at his firm. Gallagher, Hilson & Associates Family Law is a great place to work. Isaiah Gallagher and Maria Hilson are two incredible lawyers, and the other associates Harry works with aren’t too bad either. Again, he’s only thirty, but because he has such precision and talent, it makes him the hot commodity. The office is constantly getting calls for him. It’s why they want him to become the next partner. Having his name on the plaque as you enter would surely put people at ease. Isaiah and Maria saw potential in Harry from the beginning, and they feel lucky that he’s one of their associates.

There other very qualified associates as well, like Niall – who specializes in custody cases – he’s well on his way up. There’s Candice – who specializes in prenuptial agreements – she got into the lawyer game a little later in life, but she’s as sharp as a whip, and shouldn’t be underestimated. And lastly, there’s Byron – who specializes in paternity cases – he thinks he’s going to be the next partner because he’s a bit full of himself.

Harry and Niall are the closest in age, so they hang out more often. They both really like baseball, and will go to a game or two during the season. Candice is the surrogate mother figure. She has no children of her own, she���s the fun aunt to her nieces and nephews, but she feels oddly maternal towards Harry and Niall. The boys often call her “Ma”, instead of her actual name, and she loves it. She looks out for them, and there when they need someone to listen. She’s fifty-seven, and enjoys baking in her free time. She often brings the boys homemade muffins on Monday mornings, and they adore her for it.

Byron…well…Byron is a forty-year-old womanizer who totally clashes with Harry. Does Harry have one-night stands? Yes. Does he ever lie to his partners? No. Byron enjoys playing the game in all facets, and Harry never takes part in it. Needless to say, Harry hates when he has to partner with him on a case, and avoids it when he can.

Isaiah and Maria each have their own executive assistant, or para: Michele and Kyla. They’re both in their late twenties, and rocking it. Harry only interacts with them over email. He, Candice, Niall, and Byron all share the same administrator: Ronnie. Ronnie is twenty-six, friendly, and organized. She doesn’t have time to help everyone on their briefs, but that’s what interns are for, and there’s an abundance of them circling throughout the office.

Harry has a nice office. Plenty of natural light from the windows, he has a desk riser so he can stand up periodically, and he even has his own mini fridge. (He’s often paranoid about people taking his Bubbly, so he just brought in his own fridge.) He’s got a decent enough view of the city; he likes it best at night when the twinkling lights come through. It reminds him of how lucky he is to be where he is in life. He knows he’s more fortunate than others, so he tries to be grateful. He gives back when he’s able, donate to different scholarship funds and whatnot.

Harry is a good man.

On a particularly cloudy morning, Ronnie lets Harry know his 10AM consult has arrived. He didn’t know much about his new potential client, but he was always willing to hear someone out. He stands up from his desk, and waits for the woman to enter.

In walks a young woman wearing an expensive, red pantsuit, black heels, and a dark red lipstick. She gives a soft smile to Ronnie before she closes the door. Harry walks over to her, extending his hand.

“Hi, I’m Harry.”

“Mira.” She shakes his hand.

“Please, have a seat.” He gestures to the two seats on the other side of his desk and they both sit. “What brings you to my office today?”

“I heard you’re a pretty good divorce lawyer, and I need a divorce.”

“Is your spouse aware that you’re seeking counsel?”

“No.” She shakes her head and swallows. “I…I’d be putting myself in danger if he knew I wanted to leave him.”

“What kind of danger? If he’s physically abusive, then you need to- “

“He doesn’t put his hands on me like that. It’s…I don’t love him, and I never have. I was essentially…I was sold to him; it was an arranged marriage. I thought maybe I could learn to like him, to love him, but it’s been three years, and I can’t stand him. I need legal help.”

“What do you mean you were sold to him? Were you a child bride? Were you sex trafficked?”

“No.” She chews on her bottom lip. “He made a deal with my father. Thomas got me in exchange for…something. I can’t get into what exactly with you just yet.”

“Does he think you’re happy?”

“Yes.” She nods. “Well, for the most part. I do my thing, and he does his. His job keeps him pretty busy, and I often pretend to be asleep when he gets home. He doesn’t satisfy my needs, so to speak, and I’ve given up on trying. I want to be freed from him.” She pulls out a packet of paper from her purse, and gives it to Harry. “That’s a copy of the contract he and my father signed when they made the deal. I’m not great with legal jargon. I thought maybe if you decide to take me on you could look that over and tell me if there’s any way, I can get out of this.”

“Are you over eighteen?”

“Yes, well over.”

“And were you over eighteen when you were married?”

“Yes.”

“Then how could your father barter you?”

“Where I come from…it can just be like that. The goods we get in exchange for my hand outweighed my happiness.”

“I’m so sorry.” Harry frowns. “My services aren’t exactly cheap.”

“I wouldn’t expect them to be. I can pay top dollar, if that’s what you require. I have money of my own.”

“Alright.” Harry sets the packet of papers onto his desk. “I’ll take a look at that soon, and give you a call.”

“Does that mean you’re taking me on?”

“I hate to see such a nice person be so unhappy.” Harry frowns. “I got into this business to help people, so I’ll help you, Mira.”

“Oh, thank you so much.” She smiles. “There are going to be some things in that contract that may shock you, so please don’t hesitate to call me directly with your questions.” She takes out a business card from her purse. “There’s all of my contact information. If anyone other than myself contacts you regarding all of this, don’t say a word.”

“Don’t worry, I’m good at keeping things confidential.”

“I heard you’re a very trustworthy attorney.” She nods, and stands to her feet. Harry does the same. “Thank you for taking the time to listen.” She extends her hand, and he takes it to shake.

“Of course, it’s what I’m here for.” He smiles and opens the door. He watches her leave, maybe for a little too long.
