90K kms run Volvo XC60 D4. 🛑Problem: Check engine light & reduced engine performance/limp mode. 🛑DTC: P04D900 - EGR insufficient flow. 🛑Cause: Heavy carbon build-up clogging up EGR valve and EGR passages completely. EGR valve remains in stuck open position, all of the exhaust gas cycle back into the chamber, meaning there is not enough oxygen for a combustion to take place. 🛑 Symptoms: Rough idling & poor acceleration are the two most common indicators of this issue. 🛑 Solution: Involves thorough cleaning of EGR, throttle body & intake manifold, clearing the codes and checking EGR data PID. This #Nissan #qashqai came in in #limpmode and several DPF warning lights on!! A quick #diagnostics check showed a high level of #soot accumulation over 50grams and a major restriction in exhaust gas flow. We then carried out a manual check of back pressure which was 7psi at idle rising to 11psi when revved!!! Mercedes CLS with OM642 engine in limp mode/delayed acceleration. Xentry picked up P2009 code. A very familiar code this one. These engines commonly suffer from failure of the intake manifold. These manifolds are fitted with swirl flaps which manipulate air speed to create better torque at low RPM, enhanced fuel economy and reduce emissions. Unfortunately, the design of this mechanism is flawed and commonly fails. As carbon builds inside the manifold over time it puts more pressure on the swirl flaps which connect to the lever, this inevitably cracks the plastic lever. This leads to the lever no longer moving the swirl flaps throwing the engine into limp mode.
