I made a Choose Your Own Adventure type survival game on Google Forms, featuring some familiar characters from the LIS franchise🐺🦋

You're basically making some really intense choices in a high-stakes situation that will determine whether people will die or live at the end of your story. Your choices will also determine how much of the mystery you'll be able to uncover by the end. The story's pretty... convoluted, you can take that as a good or a bad thing LOL. But it does all make sense if you pay close attention👀

I honestly forgot how many ending I had to add to my project but I can confidently say that there's over 20+ endings, most being surprisingly unique from each other. The game is quite short in length - it only has 3 short chapters - but there's a lot of reading, choice-making and scrolling regardless.

Sorry in advance if some of the plot points don't make much sense or if there are any inconsistencies within the plot. Creating ridiculous amount of outcomes for this was such a hassle, my focus started to lapse occasionally. I'd be happy to hear some constructive feedback.

If some peeps wanna take a peek, be my guest and experience as many endings as you'd like! Though — fair warning — the story gets pretty brutal at times. Had to add trigger warnings just in case.

the only problem I have with the universal "we were friends"/"we were high school sweethearts" for bay AND bae (as theories go) is that it potentially does NOT in fact serve as an explanation for the new players (as theories go as well). like yeah this might've helped had max not experienced severe trauma from these events AND the fact that this game is exactly about this trauma. bc just how will these new players understand that max let the whole TOWN die for "a friend" or "a hs sweetheart"??? or that the idea of "a friend"/"a girlfriend from hs" dying for the town still haunts her??? almost a decade later?

Chloe Price is a lesbian

Every now and then I see people headcanon Chloe as Bi or pan. While that isn't bad, I just have to strongly disagree and I would just ignore people's opinions I disagree with. Then I see some disgusting people shipping Chloe with David, Nathan, Frank and Damon and....I just have to make this post.

Chloe Price is a lesbian. There is no evidence of her being interested in men. People can experiment and then realize they are gay and only interested in one specific gender. Just like Willow Rosenberg is a lesbian.

“But Joyce said Chloe had a boytoy phase and had condoms” Joyce is an idiot. Also, that really confirms that it was nothing ever really serious for Chloe. most lesbians dated/kissed/fucked guys before realizing they had no REAL attraction to guys or accepting that. Compulsory heterosexuality guys. If she really feels attraction to guys than yes she is bi but there is a possibility she was with guys because she didn’t realized she had no attraction to them or didn’t accept that.

As for condoms. Condoms aren’t used just on guy’s dicks, they can be used on sex toys to have safe sex with cis girls too (btw yes you can get stds by sharing sex toys in sex without using condoms or sharing the same condom while doing it). and also consider this: trans girls

Before you say Chloe said Jeffershit is “hot for a teacher” gay people can say someone of the opposite sex is attractive, that doesn’t make them Bi or straight. They can see beauty but know they aren’t really attracted, also she was just fucking with Max. You do realize Chloe was fucking with Max, right?

In the scene “boys are so gross”, calls her boy toy phase hella stupid and when max mentions that she couldn’t see Chloe with any of the boys there she says “that’s because you have a good eye” and that she was glad that Rachel had rescued her which to me sounds like a “I thought a had thing for boys and had boy toy phase (as she calls it) but then Rachel made me realize I actually like girls only”

There is literally enough evidence in BTS and LIS to deduce that Chloe Price is interested in girls only. 

in 2015 Ashly Burch said “I think Chloe is sexually fluid. I don’t think she really likes to label herself in any particular way” buuuuuuut

in 2018 in the farewell stream:

“When they read over their predictions Ashly said (in reference to the thing about them each being on their 2nd boyfriend) ‘clearly Chloe hadn’t realized some stuff yet’ lol” (as in she didn’t realized yet that she didn’t like boys and liked girls aka lesbian)

Then in LIS:TC Wavelengths. Chloe says this in Steph's flashback

"Check out all these booths pretending they give a shit about us for one month out of the year."

I blame DONTNOD/Deck 9 and Square Enix for not allowing Chloe to be more overtly forward with her queerness. To me, Chloe is a butch lesbian and Zak Garriss can go to hell with his "probably gay" bullshit.

So I have a Life is Strange theory and I know I'm probably not saying anything that hasn't already been said before, but I feel the need to ramble about it because MMMMMMMMMMM. Major spoilers for Life is Strange and Life is Strange: Before the Storm.

My theory: Rachel had powers, too.

That's definitely been said before. I know I've seen people talk about it both on here and on other sites. When she kicks over the flaming trashcan, a HUGE gust of wind blows from behind her and turns this relatively small flame into a huge forest fire. The fire goes out when she disappears. I've seen people debate whether this is a power related to the wind, or fire itself, but I personally think that her power encompasses all of nature. Which leads me to the second part of my theory.

Not only does Rachel have powers, ones that are related to nature, but she quite literally is the storm that wipes out Arcadia Bay. And the deer that follows Max around through most of the first game, and the butterfly.

Now PLEASE hear me out on this.

Max Caulfield suddenly gains the ability to control time seemingly out of no where, conveniently right in time to save Chloe Price from being shot to her death in the Blackwell bathroom. She's also been getting premonitions of a catastrophic impending tornado seeming headed straight for Arcadia Bay. And, to top it all off, she sees a doe all around the town that seems to follow her and make direct eye contact with her on several occasions, that only disappears when her and Chloe finally locate Rachel's body. Do you wanna know where Max saw the doe in the junkyard, the very first time she's seen it outside of her foreboding nightmares about the storm? Right next to where Rachel is buried. What's in the bathroom that gives Max a convenient hiding place to witness Chloe's death so she can reverse it? The butterfly.

At each turn Max takes, there is some sort of natural occurrence or creature guiding her path, leading her not only to the clues that solve Rachel's disappearance, but also to saving Chloe's life time and time again. She's then faced with a choice: sacrifice her hometown, or sacrifice her best friend.

Despite being given a choice, it's my firm belief that Rachel wants us to sacrifice the town. The very first thing Max's power is used for is to save Chloe, which she was all but put on a leash and led to by numerous strange occurrences that all seem to link back to Rachel Amber. Rachel wants two things: for her story to be told, and for Chloe to be safe. And she knows the only way to ensure both of those things happen is through Max Caulfield, Chloe's long-term best friend since childhood. She also knows that Chloe and Arcadia Bay do not mix, and cannot coexist. If Chloe lives, Rachel will not let Arcadia Bay stand knowing all the pain this town has caused not only herself, but Chloe. If Chloe is dead, there's nothing for her to protect. And it's all up to Max to decide if Chloe is worth that sacrifice. She's gotten what she wanted for herself, for her story to be revealed. That's why the doe disappears after they find her corpse. The only thing that's left is ensuring nothing can ever hurt Chloe again, not even herself.

Once Arcadia Bay is in ruins and Chloe is safely out of town, the storm stops. Peace has been restored and Rachel can finally rest.

And, finally, my third part of this theory:

Rachel is the reason anyone in the continued Life is Strange series has powers in the first place.

Life is Strange 2 picks up a story that seems completely unconnected from the story of Rachel, Max and Chloe. It follows two completely different characters, Sean and Daniel, in a different state. Life is Strange: True Colors follows Alex Chen, also in another town. This seems like it couldn't possibly tie back to the original story but JUST YOU WAIT, DEAR READER. In LIS2, Sean and Brody quite literally have a heart to heart while overlooking the ruins of Arcadia Bay. In LIS:TC, Alex meets Steph Gingrich, a character who was featured in LIS:BTS and is canonically from Arcadia Bay. No matter how minor the connection is, each Life is Strange game up until this point has somehow referenced or tied back to the story of Rachel Amber, and by proxy the story of Max and Chloe.

Each character who gains powers have something in common, as well. They all have something, or someone, important to protect. The same way Rachel, and Max, protected Chloe. Rachel's influence is still felt throughout the United States, all because she wanted to protect all that was important to her and destroy anything that dared to underestimate her.

The true story of Life is Strange can only be told if you sacrifice Arcadia Bay, and that story didn't start with Max Caulfield. It started with Rachel Amber.

I love Steph Gingrich. I love Alex Chen. I love True Colors. They made me passionate about things again after so, so much time. But how am I supposed to be happy with them if the franchise is going straight to hell now?

I mean. They made LIS:TC so precious and it's so special for me. But at what cost?

I didn't even realize how attached I am to Pricefield before SE and D9 blew it. And how am I supposed to look at Chenrich now and not think about how the company shitted over Pricefield for their original characters? Well, not exactly like this. But we all see how protective and focused they are on Steph and all her side content, even I can't ignore it despite the fact that I'm the biggest simp for Steph. And now. They literally threw TC stans under the bus with Double Exposure. Because now we all have this bitter aftertaste from DE spoilers, where Max and Chloe got so micharacterized and wrong. I don't know how to explain what I exactly feel. But I'm really sad and angry for what they did with DONTNOD characters. But, hey, at least their original characters are fine. Look how they are so fine and Pricefield is...

I know everyone who's willing to do it, is just gonna ignore Double Exposure and be okay. But I need to process the fact that my favorite True Colors is standing on metaphorical corpse of Pricefield.

It’s not bad but it just doesn’t look like her. Part of it is the update graphics of course but honestly if you know that a character will look different because of graphics then maybe stick a little closer to the OG design? She just doesn’t have the feel of Max. I know she’s older and all but still… It’s not enough for me to complain about but it’s there lol

As for Chloe?? There’s no way that they’ll ignore her completely. As of right now I think this Max is in a Bay over Bae timeline (I refuse to say ‘canon’ Max because there really isn’t a canon timeline guys. There’s just canon timelines in certain pieces of other media- like how LiS2 is Bae over Bay but LiS:TCs can be either) and I think the fact Max changes timelines will factor into Chloe’s fate somehow. Or maybe that Max uses her powers and no storm happens does something.

That is to say: I do think she’ll appear somehow but I think she’s this games Rachel Amber TM so if she does appear it will be towards the end and very little. I think she’ll be haunting Max the entire time.

The Ethics of Empathic Powers in LiS:TC

One of the big selling points for Life is Strange: True Colors was that Max CaulfieldAlex Chen's magical powers would be empathy - more specifically a combination of Object Reading (through the strength of emotions felt concerning those objects), Emotional Intelligence (being able to manage your own emotions and understand the emotions of people around you), and Emotional Manipulation. Of these, the most questionable would be Emotional Manipulation, and it's an ability that Alex uses several times... with two significant events where that ability ends up with significant repercussions.

The two moments include a moment when Charlotte is feeling intense anger at her son, whose actions indirectly led to the death of her fiancé Gabe (Alex's brother), where Alex can... take in Charlotte's anger, and in the fear being felt by Officer Pike (where Alex again can take in the fear and help Pike overcome his paranoia and fear of the mining corporation Typhon).

Interestingly enough, this was an area where I disagreed with my spouse, as they chose not to manipulate Charlotte but did take in Officer Pike's fear. My reasoning was that if it is unethical to take in Charlotte's anger, then would it not be unethical to do the same for Officer Pike? What's more, Alex was in the wrong. She had stolen property from a Typhon employee and recruited someone to break the encryption on it to get evidence of potential wrong-doing by Typhon. Legally, the evidence is not admissible in a court of law as it was stolen and not a whistleblowing event from an employee.

(The smart thing to do in this case would have been to copy the data and then return the flash drive as "found when I was cleaning up" as it would lessen suspicion, and then deliver the evidence to a news organization as they are not a court of law.)

Here's the thing. Is it ethical to use emotional manipulation/control on a person to save your life? I would say yes. But is this to save Alex's life? No. Alex is threatened with arrest (and rightfully so), though the value of the flash drive is minimal. It would be a misdemeanor at best. The evidence on the flash drive is embarrassing and reveals that the company was covering up malfeasance but the financial value of the stolen property is... most likely under $100. What's more, if news organizations learned that Typhon had had arrested the sister of a man who died because of mining activity Typhon was involved in, especially given that it would be easy to access satellite phone records that reveal that Gabe did in fact call Typhon? It would most likely result in an investigation that causes Typhon a lot of trouble. Typhon was just trying to scare Alex. And it works.

So it's unethical to use Alex's abilities to influence Officer Pike. Using her Emotional Intelligence aspect of empathy to learn more about his fears of Typhon are allowable (if borderline questionable) as anyone with sufficient emotional intelligence would be able to determine this sort of thing just by reading body language and the like. (A lot of empathy is subconscious emotional intelligence rather than anything psychic, and people can unfortunately allow that psychological perception of a person to influence their own emotions - which makes me suspect emotional intelligence has two separate elements which are not necessarily equal - someone may have control over their own emotions and yet not be able to easily understand the emotions of those around them... and vise versa.)

One of the nice things about TC is that we actually see repercussions for Alex unethically using her empathic abilities - she flies into a rage if she chose to take in Charlotte's anger, and Charlotte refuses to side with her against Typhon because it doesn't matter to her now, and she suffers a bout of intense paranoia and fear if she takes in Pike's fear and likewise, Pike starts acting in a... unprofessional manner during the final confrontation with Diane and Jeb.

This is also one of the nice things about True Colors over the original Life is Strange... that we see actual ethical issues in play here. With Max and the Rewind, there is little actual ethical issues in play here over her use of her abilities. Even the ending choice is not a matter of a "Good End" and a "Evil End" (no matter what certain folk working for Deck Nine might claim) as we never had any evidence that the Rewind caused the Storm and the person who does accuse Max of causing the Storm also thought the Storm was a Category 6 Storm (which doesn't exist) (and he was also a 16 year old boy whose knowledge base came from watching movies - and his choice of movies that he enjoyed were... questionable.) The second Life is Strange game did start wandering down the road of ethics, but this was more building on what was more important: family or following the law (even when the law was unjust).
