Happy Mother’s Day
I know Gary is higher on your mutual list, but Jake fit the idea better. Happy Mother’s Day to my favorite mums, @rebelrayne and @csmicletters.
Jake x MC
The time of year had completely slipped her mind, too engrossed in getting back to work after her maternity leave ended and figuring out schedules with her husband so their infant didn’t spend too long at day care each day- not to mention she moved too far to visit her own mother for the holiday, each year turning into video calls and mailed gifts while the plane tickets waited for Christmas.
The chaos of a three month old’s sleep and feeding schedule was wreaking havoc on their lives, so when Angela’s alarm didn’t go off that morning, her exhausted body turned off it’s own internal clock to rest- no part of her sleep ridden mind seemed to register the time growing later until she finally awoke to realize the sun was no longer casting long morning shadows through her window. As her phone read eleven o clock, Angela startled. Shouldn’t she have heard her son? Or her husband? Where was Jake and Ethan? Calling out quietly, she hoped to find Jake in the kitchen. Maybe Ethan was just napping. Instead, she found a note stuck to the fridge.
Relax, love. Happy Mother’s Day. I’ve seen to the arrangements, wear your comfiest clothes and your ride will arrive at noon to pick you up. Just enjoy your day.
All my love,
Jake
Damn, she really hit the jackpot with him, huh? With a lovesick smile, Angela busied herself with a hot shower before finding her softest comfort clothes.
When the knock came, she eagerly ran to answer it, only to find Tim with a grin wearing a chauffeur hat and tuxedo t shirt, “What up, Angie? I’ll be you driver!”
She cocked an eyebrow as she let herself laugh, “How’d he talk ya into this, mate?”
“Just asked, ya prick, now let’s get a move on! We have places to be and shite.” Tim clapped his hands, overdramatically bowing and gesturing toward the lift, “After you.”
The drive was as entertaining as she anticipated, Tim never stopped making her laugh or dropping new rhymes, until he was pulling up in front of a fancy looking glass building and the door was being thrown open.
“There you are, babes!” Talia’s beaming face obscured the sun as she leaned in, grabbing Angela’s hand with a call to Tim, “See ya in a few hours!”
“Don’t break her, Tals! Jakey was very specific on timeframe!”
Angela laughed as Tim pulled away, greeting Talia and a waiting Jen with a hug, “What are you two doing here?”
“Spa time and girl chat!” Jen answered excitedly, “Jake wanted to give us a chance to catch up, poor guy felt bad that Ethan has taken up so much of what used to be girl time.”
Talia nodded, “No matter how much we told him that the little babe you had together is worth all the missed time, and Auntie Tals is perfectly happy with spoiling him and getting wine time when we can fit it in.”
Angela just hugged them again, “I love them both more than anything but it’s so good to chat to my babes again.”
Talia checked her watch before ushering the two of them to the entrance, “Schedule to keep, reservations to make.”
“Mrs Wilson?” The desk clerk looked up as they entered, and Angela blinked.
They’d been married for nearly three years now and she still wasn’t used to the change in address. “Yes?”
“Very good,” he offered a kind smile, “We have the three of you booked for a mani-pedi session, followed by a sauna treatment and a full body massage. Mr Wilson has left a message here, just to let you know that he’s already checked with the pediatrician so you don’t need to worry about the nails. The length has been selected to the safest for your baby.”
She felt the initial panic at the thought fade away as he explained, Jake had really thought this day through.
“Did I tell you guys that they hired some new bloke while I was gone?” Angela asked as the technician filed down her new nails to the baby safe length.
Talia perked up at the gossip, “Can they even do that without you?”
“If he’s a temp,” Jen offered, “My dad has walked me through the process when board members are on leave.”
Angela nodded, “Come back from maternity leave and everyone is saying their hellos and such, and this bloody prick walks up and starts telling me where things are, who’s best to get help with what, even offered to take me to dinner if I needed help getting up to speed.”
“No!”
“Yes! Mug actually said ‘if you’re here to see the VP, sorry to tell ya she’s still milking having a kid so she’s not back yet’.”
Jen’s jaw fell open, “I know you didn’t just let that slide.”
“No way in hell she let that slide!” Talia added, “What did you do, babe?”
Angela smirked, “I excused myself to my office and watched him go through panic. Didn’t fire him- told his manager to have the team give him all the work they didn’t feel like doing themselves. He tried to file a complaint but HR just told him that the VP must’ve thought he could handle it.”
“You ever gonna let him off the hook?”
“Maybe. When he learns to respect the sacrifices I’ve made for the job I do, and understands that taking maternity leave isn’t ‘milking having a kid’.”
“As you should, babes.”
Walking through the door of the flat she shared with her family, Angela felt more relaxed than she had in ages. The stress from working her ass off for promotions at work, planning their wedding- and honeymoon- followed by her pregnancy and Ethan’s newborn months had built up and boiled over until she forgot her starting point. Jake was her constant from the beginning, no matter how hard he worked at the restaurant he always made time for her and their son. He always did his best to encourage her and help her relax, he would take the midnight feedings when he could, and today was a reminder of how much he saw her. He saw her getting tense and stressed out, and he did what he could.
As she slipped her shoes off, she finally registered soft music mixing with the sounds of spoons clanging on metal, and she followed them to her boys.
Jake milled about around the kitchen, Ethan strapped to his burly chest and looking impossibly small as his tiny hands reached for whatever Jake held, “No, sweetheart, I don’t think mum is ready for you to try something like this yet. Don’t worry, I have some yummy milk ready for you.”
She giggled softly to herself as Jake noticed her presence, coming over to press a kiss to each of their cheeks, “Mum is glad to see her two loves getting along so well.”
Her husband leaned down, giving her a sweet kiss before he pulled away, “I hope you had an enjoyable day, love.”
“It was exactly what I needed, but it feels so much better to see you two again.” She carefully pulled Ethan from the carrier, letting Jake take it off and begin moving the food to the table, that he’d set with flowers and candles, “Hey, bug. Mum missed you so much. Were you good for daddy?”
“We spent the day visiting my mum, so he had a lot of excitement,” Ethan fussed softly, eager for his bottle, “and didn’t get much of a nap. My mum says he should sleep pretty well tonight, and she’ll be by in a few minutes to pick him up.”
Her face bloomed with a hopeful smile, “We’re going to have the night to ourselves?”
He nodded, holding the two of them as she started to feed their baby, “She would’ve just kept him when I visited but I knew you’d want to see him.”
“You are the perfect husband, you know that?”
“Anything for the perfect wife.” Jake chuckled, “Now, give me our little poop machine. You sit, relax. I’ve made your favorite.”
“You didn’t need to go through all the trouble, you know? I would’ve been happy to spend the day with you eating take out.”
“Never.” Jake argued, giving her another kiss on the cheek, “Today is all about you. Happy Mother’s Day, my love.”

Jake knew exactly what to do when she got like this. He kept to the kitchen, bothered her only to make sure she was eating, watched with an adoring stare as she paced the floor of their shared apartment, brain-storming with big headphones covering her ears. Such were the perils of being engaged to Ruby Whitmore, bestselling romance author on a deadline for a highly-anticipated fourth novel.
He was grateful for the experience granted to him by their four year relationship. The first time he’d seen her nearing a publishing deadline, he’d been completely out of his depth. Horrified, watching his sweet girl become a writing, editing, pacing zombie. They’d been together just six months and Ruby had been wary of the relationship getting serious at an important career intersection. She was finishing her sophomore novel and desperate to live up to the success of her debut.
But Jake had stuck it out. He’d started coming over to her apartment just to sit in the same room while she worked. He’d started cooking for her every night, showing up unannounced with ingredients his restaurant would have tossed out. He’d listen to the sound of her fingers on a keyboard and the sizzling of peppers in a pan and feel perfectly content.
He told her he was falling for her on a night like that. After watching her work, making her dinner, heart soaring at the grateful smile she gave him.
For his troubles, a line in her author’s note.
Thank you to my dear friend Jake Wilson, without whom I might have starved in the process of writing this book.
“Just a dear friend?” he’d joked when he read it. They’d been dating for a year and some change by the time she got a proof copy. He read the book in two days, finished it on her couch with her feet in his lap after a celebratory dinner.
She’d pulled herself closer, looping arms around his neck. Kissed his cheek. “I wanted the thanks to be timeless. Just in case.”
“I’m still offended,” Jake said. He hadn’t been really, he understood the hesitation to put feelings into print.
“You’re not really.” She’d told him. “Tell me what you thought of the book.”
And he did. Over and over, until it came time to tell her what he thought of the next one.
Her third book came the next year, they were on the verge of moving in together when her deadline zombie months came. Moving was tabled until publication.
He was mentioned in the author’s note a second time.
Thank you to my boyfriend, Jake Wilson, for keeping me sane and well fed.
When Ruby gave him his proof copy, he’d flipped straight to the acknowledgements, read the line, kissed her in the doorway.
“Move in with me,” he’d said. “Please.”
And she did.
Between books three and four, Ruby took a break. With bills split, both Ruby and Jake could afford to focus on each other more. He’d transitioned from cooking in a fancy restaurant to teaching at a nearby culinary institute. The job suited him, his exceedingly gentle nature made him a wonderful instructor. The two of them made a happy little life together and Jake realized all at once that he wanted it to last forever.
A week after their engagement, Ruby pitched a book to her editor. Jake overheard the phone call in bits and pieces.
“The love interest is a chef… Right, yeah… She’s from a small town… No, I’ve already started… Thank you! I’m really happy… I think I want the wedding to happen before publication but I’m not sure…”
It took Ruby a whole month to tell Jake about the story after getting the go-ahead from her agent. He’d been waiting impatiently to tease her for writing a love story with a chef for a love interest. Secretly, he’d always hoped to serve as inspiration for her writing. They were laying in bed, just about to sleep, when she told him.
“I started book four,” she said.
He mustered surprise. “Really? That’s great!”
“Don’t make fun of me,” she said. “But the love interest is a chef.”
It was impossible to keep himself from laughing out loud. Even though he’d known, hearing her saying it was priceless. “You’re kidding.”
“I told you not to make fun of me!” She laughed easily, though. He knew she’d been bracing herself for the teasing. “It’s just such a rom-com profession. I had to.”
“I’m not making fun of you-“ He flipped over, bracing himself on his elbows to hover above her. “-but I am going to be a smug asshole about this forever.” He kissed her, feeling warm, making her blush.
And here was the beginning of the deadline zombie phase. He was in the kitchen, tending to a seasonal pumpkin soup, she was blasting rock music through her headphones and pacing circles around the living room. Business as usual in the Wilson-Whitford home.
“Jake?”
He was almost startled hearing her voice. Just a moment before, Ruby had been on a completely different planet. He turned, finding her already in the kitchen, headphones in hand.
He leaned against the counter, smiling at his beautiful girl. “What’s up?”
“Can you be my rubber duck for a second?”
If it weren’t for her serious tone, Jake would have laughed out loud. “What do you mean?”
She twisted the headphones in her hands. “You know, how computer programming students talk to a rubber duck when they can’t find a problem in their code?”
“I do not.”
“Okay, well…” She giggled. “I read about it one time.”
“You need me to listen to you talk about your book?” He was almost afraid to suggest it. Ruby had always been guarded about her ideas, talking things through with her agent or editor if at all. Jake wanted to be let into the process, just to see how her mind worked. He loved seeing the way all his favorite little pieces of her made it to the page, but he respected her desire to keep the rougher edges of the process to herself.
Blessedly, she nodded. Jake turned down the burner to keep the soup base just below a simmer and swooped Ruby into his arms, hoisting her to sit on the kitchen island in front of him.
“I’m all yours,” he said.
While he chopped the rest of his autumn vegetables, Ruby explained the basic plot of her book. When she began elaborating on her characters, Jake had to fight to keep the grin from his face. The main character of the novel, Juliet, was a neurotic librarian, brilliant if a little lost in the clouds, and the love interest, Richard, was the proprietor of a new restaurant in town, effortlessly sexy and down-to-earth.
“I’m writing part of it from the man’s perspective, I don’t usually do that but, I don’t know, it’s a popular style now.” Ruby chewed her thumbnail, deep in thought. Like a rubber ducky, Jake didn’t have to say much to help her think through her issue. He was stirring the soup again by the time she’d caught him up on the basics, adding all the vegetables he’d just chopped.
He put the lid back on the pot, turned back to her. Leaning with his hands on either side of her on the counter, he said, “Are you having trouble with the man’s point of view?”
She frowned. “Maybe.”
“I happen to know a guy,” Jake joked, “he’s a sexy chef exactly like Richard Walton. Could probably connect a few dots.”
Ruby rolled her eyes. “Maybe. As long as this dude doesn’t have a huge fucking ego about his fiancée writing a character kind of based on him.”
Jake leaned closer, their noses almost touching. “And if he does?”
“Unfortunately, I still might need the help.”
“What are you stuck on, in particular?” Jake moved one hand from the counter to her thigh, watching her eyebrows knit together at the sudden transition from teasing to flirting.
“It’s… Um. So,” Ruby stammered, flustered for all her fictional experience with romantic advances much more blatant than this one. She cleared her throat. “I just don’t know how to express, like, desire from the male perspective. It feels like it should be different somehow.”
Jake hummed, low in the back of his throat. “It sounds like you need a hand from a sexy chef.”
“Would you please stop referring to yourself as a sexy chef in the third person?” Ruby laughed, shaking her head at him.
“You could start with the way her nose scrunches when she laughs,” Jake said. “He might like that.”
She leaned back, caught onto his game. “Juliet isn’t based on me.”
“So you’re writing about me falling in love with some other girl?”
“I…” Ruby frowned. “Fine. If we’re being technical, all of my characters are a little bit me.”
“I know,” Jake said. “That’s why I love your books.”
She blushed again. Compliments never seemed to get through to her, since she was always focused on writing the next great thing. He was surprised to see that make any impression.
“But if Juliet doesn’t scrunch her nose when she laughs,” he said. “He probably likes the way she purses her lips when she’s thinking. Probably wants to kiss a quizical look right off her face.”
“Should I be taking notes?” Ruby raised a hand to Jake’s face, then, dismissing the pretense just slightly. She stroked the stubble on his cheek with her thumb, studied him. Seemingly from nowhere, she said, “You’re so good to me.”
Jake smiled, followed the worry in her brows down to her eyes. “You’re easy to be good to.”
She shook her head at him. “No, I know this part of the writing is miserable. I’m sorry I shrink away so much to get the books done.”
“Baby,” he said. He raised a hand to cover hers. “I love this part of it. I love getting to help you through it.” He kissed her forehead. “I love getting to watch my brilliant future wife be brilliant.”
She kissed him, looping her arms around his neck to pull him close. He loved the feeling of her hands in his hair, her body pressed against his.
When she pulled back, he could see the wheels turning in her head with increasing speed. The beauty of one of her breakthroughs.
“I think I’ve figured out the scene,” she said. “You’re an even better rubber ducky than you are sexy chef.”
Jake chuckled. “Let’s not get ahead of ourselves.”
She hopped down from the counter, landing between his arms and pressed against him. “You should finish your soup,” she teased.
Without moving away, Jake reached behind him and turned the burner off entirely. “It’ll survive being reheated.”
She giggled. “I should get back to my book.”
“I think you should do some research on, um, desire? From the male perspective?”
Ruby laughed, feeling the punchline of his joke pressed against her thigh, then she relented. She wrote many things from experience, after all.
-
After the deadline came a renewed focus on wedding planning. The couple hoped to be married and honeymooned before the book release, leaving Ruby more free to plan signings. She’d be going on a book tour for the first time that year, which was an exciting milestone even if she knew she’d miss Jake and their cozy apartment.
When the proofs for her fourth novel came, Ruby couldn’t wait to give one to Jake. It was the middle of the day and he was still at the culinary institute with a class. She surprised him on campus, knocking on his classroom door with the book behind her back.
A student answered, but she recognized Ruby from the pictures displayed on Jake’s desk. She let Ruby in without a second thought.
“Ruby?” Jake smiled, his face betraying worry and confusion despite his excitement to see his fiancée.
She nodded at the classroom of students, staring at her from their messy workstations.
“Sorry,” she said. “I just wanted to give you this.”
Ruby handed him the book, kissed the corner of his mouth. “I love you,” she said. As soon as she’d arrived, she was gone again, leaving Jake dumbstruck in her wake.
She’d bookmarked the acknowledgements for him.

litg characters I'd cast in romcoms
When Harry Met Sally: Seb as Harry!! Then Genevieve as his ex, Tom as MC's (Sally's) ex, Nicky as Seb's best friend, Elladine as MC's best friend
I actually have this all sorted how this would work out but my post got deleted 😭
Notting Hill: Jin as Hugh Grant's character (forgot his name lol) because in my head he's history nerd so like just imagine him in cozy sweaters okay. He's got that wacky roommate whose name I have also forgotten and naturally if we had to pick from S8, Liam, but I also think Jamal would be a fun pick (make the roommate less wacky and more just fun and wild though). The other version of this is Jake as as the main character with his roommate Tim.
Legally Blonde (and I'm going based off the musical): Literally only here because I know I can cast the lawyers, like clearly Suresh as Warner (and oh lean heavily on the implication that he cheated on MC while they were dating) and Blake or Marisol as Vivienne (I like her being cut throat but still looking for love). I'd really like Hari as Emmett because they have a backstory of working hard for their dream and would have a fun banter with the main character without being overly cheery and also is very competitive when needs to be although may be an underdog, but lowkey could also be anyone that has the very grounded boy next door vibe so like Tyler, Rohan, Jake, James, and Lewie are also good picks imo. The other sorority girls needs to include Chelsea, Thabi, basically any of MC's besties (...minus Amelia). It's hard to think of anyone as Paulette because she's an older character and everyone in the game is pretty young but we can further my Angie x Cora agenda and have it be Angie talking about her lost love and then in comes the hot deliverywoman, Cora. She also has like sage advice vibes when she's in the villa sometimes so I think that works.
She's All That: Gary as the main guy. Eddie as his shitty best friend. I don't know why but this came so quickly to me I'm not sure I'd even have to explain but like Gary gives off cool guy / player vibes but I'd also see him absolutely get into or at least support whatever weird artsy stuff his girlfriend is into and have a character arc and all that.
While You Were Sleeping: the OG "I fell in love with your brother while you were away" story, so clearly Ozzy as Peter, Marshall as the brother, Grace as the girl Ozzy's actually dating
How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days: Because I've already said Gary for a different romcom, I'm inclined to have the suave ladies man esque character be Will or Youcef. I also think an evolved Suresh or Finn or Mason or Levi could work. Often I forget about her but I think Lulu would be a fun whatever Kathryn Hahn's character's name is.
A Cinderella Story (the Hilary Duff version): I think the fandom's go to "I don't wanna do what my dad says" character may be Lucas but I want to give Oliver a chance as the sweet lead even though I remember nothing about his backstory in game. MC's best friend can be someone a little dorky and the only person coming to mind right now is Felix.
Ten Things I Hate About You: Again, a reformed Finn could've been so good. Instead, we're going for mysterious and brooding so I think Joyo is a good choice for Patrick. Then to continue the streak of me remembering S7 characters, I think Raf could be a good Cameron because he's got that innocence and silliness that works. Then we need the friend that gives Raf an explanation of how things work and I could see that going to Andy because he's a little silly and dorky but mostly pretty confident (slightly different vibe from the character but that's fine). Other option, Bruno. In the movie, I believe he also ends up with Kat's best friend, who I just remember being very confident and alternative vibes so I think Najuma, Cora, Bella, or Lottie for her. We also need Kat's sister Bianca, and that could be easy and I say it's Amelia, or we could pick a tolerable option like Bea. There's also the guy Bianca initially has a crush on, and dare I say we pick Toby?? Just a character that's full of nothing. Or it could just be someone pretty like Levi or someone rich and an asshole like Miles or Jasper. All I remember about Bianca's bestie is that she backstabs her at the end and since fusebox hates women that could be a number of characters but my pick is Sophie or Erikah.
I could go on forever so I must I choose to stop now before I get carried away 🤣

5, 7, 11, 24, and 29. I'll stop there even though I'm oh-so-tempted to keep going!
Dear Sweet Baby Zeus, Sarah! Why are you so mean to me? Did I piss on a maple leaf? Kick a bunny in front of you? Why do you enjoy my pain? I could do an entire post just on #5 alone 😆. Maaaaan, this is gonna be so freakin' long…
5. How many wips do you have? What fandoms/pairings are they for?
I have a lot. Several of them are fully written, but not edited. I'm only gonna count ones where I wrote at least a paragraph and not the ones that have extensive notes or complicated outlines but no actual story yet. So lemme see... That'd be... 17. JFC.
LITG S1 AU: Levi vs Jake x MC
LITG S3 Villa: Nicky x MC
LITG S1-S2 AU: Levi + Lucas
LITG S2 Royal Werewolf AU #1: Bobby + MC
LITG S2 TSIME AU: Noah x Lili
LITG S2 Royal AU: Lucas x Arjun
LITG S2 Royal Werewolf AU #2: Bobby x MC
LITG S2 College AU: Lucas vs Noah vs Bobby x MC
LITG S2 Villa: Bobby x Marisol--it's cursed I know
LITG S2 Post Villa: Lucas x MC x Bobby
LITG S2 Villa & Post Villa: Lucas x MC
LITG S2 AU: Arjun x MC
LITG S5 Post Villa: Suresh (non romance)
LITG S2 Post Villa Divorce: Bobby x MC
LITG S3 Therapy AU: Seb x MC
LITG S2 College AU: Rahim (non romance)
LITG S6 Villa: Marshall x Lewie x Ozzy x MC
I might have to let go of some of these S2 ones. Ain't nobody reading S2 anymore. Sigh.
7. Post a snippet from a wip.
She laughed, the tension in her releasing. “Do you want to get my heart racing, Lewie?” His own soft chuckle faded and he stepped closer to her and lowered his voice. “I really do.” And just like that, the tension, the ache, returned two-fold. What was this man doing to her? He reached over and stroked her jaw. “Do you want me to get your blood pumping?” She found herself quivering beneath his touch. “Maybe.” “Just maybe?”  “I’m receptive to it.” He grinned and pulled her closer. “I’d prefer you to be keen. Maybe even enthused.” The bright blue of his eyes dazed her like a midday summer sky. “I can offer you amenable," she said. “Damned with faint interest." He picked her up and put her on the counter, letting his hands rest on her hips. God she loved when he did that. “I fear I need to give you something to make you a little more enthusiastic.” “You might have to,” she whispered.
11. Do you write scenes in order, or do you jump around?
This is a good question! I don't usually think much about it. I rarely write dual POV for fanfic, because it's time consuming and I'm lazy. So when I know the premise, I generally know who's POV it'll be in. Like, in one of my wips, I decided that Levi is just discovering that he's bisexual and the story will follow him going from closeted to out so he can be with Lucas (who is already out and resents being shoved back in). Since Levi is the one who is going to grow and change, the story was always gonna be in his POV in my head.
With TSIME I DID plan to write Beach Hut Confessionals from Lili's point of view and scatter them throughout the story, but after the first one I realized that I liked it better when we only saw things through Bobby's lens.
29. What’s something about your writing that you’re proud of?
I'm proud of writing small moments that foreshadow the big emotional impacts to come. Most people never even notice them, so they're kind of just something for me. TSIME has a fuck ton of them.
**WARNING: THE SUN IN MY EYES SPOILERS AHEAD)** Bobby and Lili share a cup of tea and Lili turns the mug so her lips touch the same spot his do, foreshadowing the first kiss she'll instigate many chapters later (though she'll forever say that Bobby instigated it). Lili tells Bobby early on that "people leave." And there are numerous scenes of him watching her walk away from him. All of it foreshadowing what happens after CA. Bobby tells Lili she should fall madly in love with him and she says it's a bad idea and he quotes a line from Thirty Rock, telling her there are no bad ideas. Only good ideas that go horribly wrong. Foreshadowing their relationship in the villa as a whole.
My favorite is when Noah grabbed Lili, threw her over his shoulder and walked off with her, saying, "Sorry Bobby, I'm stealing your girl," foreshadowing the disaster recoupling and something that happened later after the show between Lili and Noah. FYI I have a one shot for that one as soon as I post the last chapter of TSIME. It's both distressing and sexy. Thanks for the interrogation, Sarah 😝 You jerk.

So, my friends invited me over to watch the PG rated hit family film Cats (2019). Can we have a moment of silence for my forever lost innocence please? … Thank you. Anyway, so now that I’m greatly disturbed and utterly horrified, here’s a LITG x Cats crossover absolutely no one asked for lmao
Casting LITG islanders as characters from Cats (not necessarily from 2019 version because wtf was that)
Marisol/Camilo as Munkustrap
Imposing, energetic, courageous. Leader and protector of the Jellicle cats tribe. Responsible and brave. Narrator and story-teller.
S5 MC as Victoria
Young, inhibited, inquisitive. Naive and kind-hearted, abandoned by previous owners. Longs to be wanted and loved.
Chelsea/Thabi as Jennyanydots
Motherly, contended, controlling. Lazying around during the day, running the household during the night. Cheerful and good-humored with bossy side.
Priya and Bobby/Iona and Najuma as Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer
Mischievous, rambunctious, ne’er-do-well. Fun-loving criminal duo, generally well-received by other cats. Notorious partners in crime.
Lexi/Cherry as Grizzabella
Proud, hurt, indomitable. Once a glamorous star, now exiled and disgraced. Sad and wistful, despised by the Jellicle cats, longs for forgiveness.
Lottie/Suresh as Macavity
Hypnotic, jealous, dangerous. Malevolent criminal mastermind, eludes the police and strikes fear in other Jellicle cats.
Angie/Lulu as Old Deutoronomy
Wise, commanding, spiritual. Kind and just leader of the Jellicle cats, beloved by everyone. An ancient cat with psychic powers and spiritual connection with Heavyside layer.
Mason/Rafi/Finn as Rum Tum Tugger
Vain, perverse, inconsequent. Charismatic, self-obsessed show-off. Rock star with wild anarchic energy and comedic sexuality.
Kat as Bombalurina
Generous, voluptuous, frank. Self-confident and very direct about feelings. Extremely flirtatious and the center of attention.
Rohan/Henrik/Alfie as Mr. Mistoffelees
Competitive, neat, electric. Mysterious and clever conjuring cat. Up to mischief or performing amusing magic tricks.
Bruno/Tai as Skimbleshunks
Caring, bright, self-regarding. Protector of the kittens when danger is near. Jolly and cheerful, remembered by his signature gigantic smile and bright personality.
Will as Gus the Theatrical Cat
Wistful, imaginative, frail. Fragile and feeble old cat, reminiscing about his days of being an actor. Initially vague and a little confused, but becomes more confident and outspoken.
Jake/Tom as Bustopher Jones
Foppish, gluttonous, dapper. Genial and cheerful, enjoys life to the fullest. Particularly interested in fine dining and cuisine at gentlemen’s clubs. Leaves swiftly at first sign of trouble.

every kind of way (jake x mc)
rating: E (for the last chapter)
chapter: 1/3
word count: ~4k
summary: To say Eris has had a rough time in the villa so far was an understatement. She really didn’t need to go and complicate things further by fancying her closest mate, but then again, her brain rarely worked properly when Jake was around her.
a/n: this is a short fic about coupling up with Jake. it’ll be three chapters long and will only cover day 11 and the night of day 12. this first chapter takes place on the morning of day 11
for the most part, it follows canon with the exceptions that my MC, Eris, has a much closer relationship with Jake, and she also makes it clear to Levi that she’s not interested in him. i also (briefly) included an explanation behind Jake’s cheating, which is entirely headcanon. otherwise, the story is basically the same as the game
anyway thanks for reading if you do!

i wanna love you in every kind of way - H.E.R.
“Oh, Christ.”
Eris stared deadpan at the telltale beep of her phone that resounded throughout the empty bedroom and interrupted whatever retort Levi was about to throw at her.
After last night’s dumping and Lucy’s antics this morning, she wasn’t in the mood for challenges or dates or whatever it was they were going to be doing today. She wanted to relax, sleep in, hang out by the pool. One day of peace in the villa seemed like more of an impossible feat than she realized.
And on top of that, Levi has been trying to rekindle their relationship after Eris admitted that she wasn’t interested in him anymore. Her feelings hadn’t been that strong to begin with, but they’ve waned since the whole Cherrygate debacle. In recent days, she could now easily say she’s moved on. Levi, however, refused to give up. It was why he was currently sitting in bed with her, convincing her that he didn’t have feelings for Lucy, whatever she might say or do.
Needless to say, Eris was having a shit morning. If the producers allowed them alcohol this early in the day, she’d be cradling an entire bottle of wine right now.
She huffed at the phone, hoping the stupid device knew that whatever text had been sent to her was not welcomed right now. Beside her, Levi appeared irritated.
“I guess we’ll... talk later,” he grumbled.
Eris scratched her nose in an annoyed tick. She’d honestly rather not, but it was a conversation she knew needed to be had.
“Sure. Later. But,” she interjected firmly, “I’ll say this one last time.” She looked Levi straight in the eye, keeping her tone gentle yet steady. By god, if they had to have this discussion again, she’d burn her hair off. “We might still be coupled up, but we’re not together and we haven’t been for a while. If you want to get back with Lucy or graft on another girl, I won’t stop you because honestly, I don’t care.”
Levi’s lips thinned as a sour expression formed on his face, but he kept quiet. Whether it was for the sake of the text or because her feelings had finally sunk in for him, she wasn’t sure. Either way, she was glad he chose silence.
Suppressing the urge to sigh, Eris dragged herself up and leaned over to snatch the phone from the table. She avoided looking in his direction as she shouted for the other Islanders to gather.
“Guys! I got a text!”
They piled into the bedroom in a matter of seconds, some with breakfast still in their hands.
“Read it out, Eris!” Reese exclaimed.
Tim took a bite of his toast before asking, “What do you reckon it is? Another challenge?”
“Oh, don’t talk with your mouth full, hun,” Jen tutted. Her expression, however, was still amused. “But I do hope we get treated for some dates.”
The two of them leered at each other, and Eris couldn’t help the pang of jealousy that hit her. That was what she wanted for herself, but it seemed like the one guy she did want in the villa didn’t want her back.
Stuffing her bitterness down, Eris cleared her throat.
“Alright, everyone ready?” she asked the group.
When they nodded, she lowered her gaze to the text and read it out loud.
Islanders, tonight will be the last recoupling. The boys will be choosing their partners.
#thefinalcountdown #holdontight
Eris’ heart sank as she scanned the short missive again. Another recoupling? After they had one just last night? She knew for a while that she needed to find a better partner than Levi, but she thought she had more time. And of course the very last recoupling would be boy’s choice. She could very well be dumped from the villa tonight.
She couldn’t stop her eyes from darting over to Jake, but she was surprised to see he was already staring back. He ducked his head immediately, looking oddly frustrated. In the next second, Jake bolted from the room without saying a word to anyone.
Bemused and crestfallen, Eris sagged. She’s been having trouble reading him more than ever in the past few days, but him fleeing from her was very clearly a bad sign.
There were a few beats of silence that were shortly broken by Jen. Eris tuned it out as her mind reeled. She ignored the excited chatter of the room and flopped backwards onto the bed, resisting the urge to groan into the pillow.
Shit morning indeed.
Eris ambled through the villa alone, wondering how on earth she got herself into this situation.
She had finished breakfast and conversed with the other Islanders in a daze, too worried about what tonight had in store for her. Since Levi wasn’t an option any longer, her thoughts were in shambles as she considered what else she could do. There was always the possibility of coupling up with Rohan as friends, but at this stage in the game, it wouldn’t be right. They both knew the attraction wasn’t there. They deserved better than that.
Eris didn’t care so much about winning. All she wanted was to find a future with someone on the show, and Rohan was not the boy to have that with. There was nobody else in the villa for her.
Nobody but one, and he had barely looked at her all day.
She’s been dealing with the particular frustration that was Jake for what seemed like half her time there. At the very beginning it looked like he was into her, offering secret glances and smiles across the room that always seemed to verge on longing. They even coupled up for a bit. Those few days with Jake, being able to cuddle up with him in bed and find excuses to touch him in and out of challenges...
Those days were undoubtedly the happiest she’s felt. To hear him say that he had wanted her to pick him too made Eris smile so wide, her cheeks hurt.
But all of a sudden, things changed. Levi was grafting on her, and Jake backed off, insisting he didn’t want to stand in their way. Eris had never been so conflicted. On one hand, she couldn’t deny that Levi was attractive, and as a conceptual artist, she was also delighted to learn that they both shared a particular love for installation art. The way he chased after her was thrilling. It was nice being wanted by one of the most eligible Islanders on the show.
But with Jake, things were so... right.
Early on, he confessed to Eris that he struggled to connect with the others, but she had no problem growing close to him. He started opening up to her after some gentle prodding on her part, then things just snapped into place for them.
While they weren’t completely attached at the hip, Eris and Jake were damn close. He cracked wry jokes, often only for her ears and told at the most unexpected times. He spoke freely to her about his thoughts on the other Islanders and their couples. He allowed himself to be more selfish when he was with her instead of trying to maintain peace around the villa like he usually did.
In the same vein, Eris was just as comfortable around him. She felt relaxed in his warm, easy presence, even when he wasn’t talking much. She enjoyed watching him do the most mundane things, like cook or take a swim in the pool. She forgot about trying, about keeping up appearances and making sure her face wasn’t sweaty or her makeup hadn’t smeared.
Jake made her feel safe enough to rant to him and be quiet with him and be herself, unapologetically, around him.
What humbled her the most, however, was the fact that he opened up to her about his cheating past.
Fittingly, he had told her about it the morning after the infamous mess that was Cherrygate. It had been early on in his adult life, barely past his 20s, and he’d been dating his then-girlfriend for almost two years. They met each other through a mutual friend, but they didn’t start dating until a few months later. Everyone had seen it coming. Everyone encouraged it too.
Things were fun in the beginning, but it didn’t take long for them both to realize they weren’t good for each other. Their constant arguments were never resolved, and their communication was never there. Jake suspected that they only stayed together for as long as they did because everyone expected it of them.
He was vague about the specifics of his infidelity. All Eris knew was that it started three months before the breakup with some girl who lived on the same street as him. When Jake found out his girlfriend had been cheating on him too, he confessed to his own affair, and they finally decided to split up. With so many mutual friends, the two of them saw each other occasionally, but they were mostly on good terms. Still, he admitted that even if they were both equally guilty parties, there were few things that hurt worse than being cheated on.
Eris wasn’t exactly torn up about Levi kissing another girl. What did make her cry was knowing that Jake empathized with her enough to share something so private about his life. The other Islanders offered their comfort in their own ways, but Jake was the only one to hurt with her. The night Cherrygate occurred, he was there, wrapping a sturdy arm around her shoulders and telling her how strong she was, how much she didn’t deserve it. The morning after was no different. That was when he permanently cemented himself in her heart.
Eris had a stronger bond with Jake than with anyone else in the villa and even some of her friends back home. It came to the point where she had grown attuned to his emotions. From the subtle wrinkle in his forehead when he was troubled to the downturn of his lips when he was confused, it wasn’t difficult for her to figure out what he was feeling. Even her awareness of his physical presence had become second nature. Her ears could make out the timbre of his voice from the other side of the villa. Her eyes could recognize his silhouette in a darkened room.
It was well-known that Jake was the most reserved Islander on the show. But she knew him. She knew him, and it was such a privilege that he allowed her.
He was sweet. Funny. Self-assured. Romantic. Supportive. Considerate. And unquestionably the most beautiful man she’s ever laid eyes on.
Jake was everything Eris wanted in a partner, and in a very short amount of time, she knew she was already starting to fall fast and hard for the quiet, cheeky chef. She had every intention of staying coupled up with him to see where they could go.
So when Jake suggested to Eris that she and Levi had strong potential, she was more than a little upset. He didn’t fight for her or their couple, and it made Eris think that maybe he didn’t want her as much as she thought.
He seemed so willing to let her go. And it hurt.
Eris wasn’t the type of person to internalize her feelings, but being humiliated like that on national television made her bite back her disappointment and put on a strong front instead. She had smiled tightly at Jake, then picked Levi for her date later that night, and when he kissed her, she didn’t fight it. She thought of the man she’d rather be kissing instead, but she didn’t fight it. Everything about it had felt off. His hands weren’t the same, his shoulders a touch too wide.
Jake didn’t seem to mind any of it. That was the proverbial nail in the coffin that prompted her to choose Levi at the next coupling. Maybe it was the out Jake had been hoping for. After all, he didn’t look all too upset when he clapped along with everyone else at her decision. And he’s obviously been getting on well with Cherry.
Eris couldn’t stop the small scowl that formed on her face. Fucking Cherry. That ugly, green-eyed monster of jealousy roared inside her whenever that girl so much as looked at Jake. But Eris would never compromise his happiness, and if Cherry made him happy, she’d suck it up.
With all of this drama happening, Eris was starting to wonder why she signed up for the show in the first place. She could’ve had failed relationships back home in Kent just as easily. She could’ve pined over yet another man who didn’t want her in the comfort of her own flat.
She groaned and tugged at her hair. Mindlessly walking around the villa didn’t help much. Besides, Tim’s constant rapping could be heard wherever she went. It wasn’t like she could escape anywhere.
Eris walked through the dressing room, her mind nowhere near concluded. But her tumultuous thoughts were interrupted at the sound of hurried footsteps behind her.
She turned. A small gasp escaped her when she saw who it was.
Jake strode right for her with a determination she’s never seen from him before. At first glance, he appeared cool and collected, but once she took in his crazed eyes, clenched jaw, and shaking hands, anticipation whirled in her stomach.
“Jake?”
“I’m sorry, Eris,” he breathed as he stopped a few feet from her. “I just — can I have a word?”
Her eyebrows knitted together. “Wha— Jake, what’s going on?”
“I have to...” He huffed and shook his head, clearly frustrated with himself. “There’s just something I need to tell you. Can we...?” He gestured to the doors of the roof terrace.
It was clear that whatever it was he needed to say was big. Jake was rarely anything less than put together, and right now, he looked like he was on the precipice of a meltdown.
Eris didn’t hesitate as she nodded. “Of course. Come on.”
They entered the terrace, luckily finding it empty. Jake took a seat, leaning forward and resting his elbows on his knees. His clasped hands sporadically squeezed and loosened. Eris eyed him in concern as she joined him on the bench.
“Are you alright?” she asked. She’s never seen anyone in the villa look half as nervous as he did right now.
“I’m fine,” he assured. “It’s just... I’ve been thinking all day about whether or not I should say this. And it’s like — if I say it, I might ruin a friendship, or worse. It could be really bad for the villa.”
Jake sighed heavily and hung his head. He almost sounded like he was talking to himself with his next words.
“But if I don’t say it, maybe I miss a chance to finally be happy?”
Eris’ frown deepened, and she felt a fluttering in her chest, something she couldn’t name.
Confused as ever, she caved in to the urge to touch him and placed a hand on his arm. “You’re kind of scaring me. What is this about?”
Jake quieted. He stared at her hand, resting gently on his warm skin, and his gaze softened. When he remained silent, Eris squeezed in encouragement.
He exhaled quietly.
“Fuck it.”
His eyes flashed, and he whipped his head up to stare her down. She almost recoiled.
“I want you,” Jake blurted, his voice hoarse. “I want to be with you so bad, Eris. From day one... it’s always been you.”
Her jaw dropped to the floor.
For a moment, nothing else registered other than the words I want you.
I want you.
Jake wanted her?
Her?
It was appropriate that Eris’ response was just as bewildered. “Huh?” she said stupidly.
Jake ran a hand through his unruly hair as he shot up from his seat to pace around. “Look, I realize I left it so late, but it’s the last recoupling this evening and I just had to say something, even though I might’ve ruined everything I’ve tried to make in here. Plus, you had all this stuff going on with Levi and I didn’t want to piss you off or ruin our friendship, so I kept quiet about it. But I can’t anymore. I need to know, or it’ll kill me.”
He stopped pacing and took a deep breath. Visibly bracing himself, Jake turned to her, his face verging on desperation.
“Eris,” he rasped, “is there any chance for me? Could — could something happen between us?”
Stunned, Eris leaned back on the bench with her mouth agape.
Shock coursed through her for a few long beats as silence stretched between them, his confession hanging in the air. The longer she sat there, utterly dumbstruck, the more Jake’s face fell. It took her a bit, but her brain caught up as she finally absorbed what he had said.
I want you.
It’s always been you.
Something between us.
The world around her spun, but once the words got through to her, it careened to a complete halt. Suddenly Jake was the only thing she could see.
Her heart soared.
A short, disbelieving laugh bubbled out of her as the reality of his confession kicked in, and Jake’s shoulders drooped, looking like she had just kicked him in the gut.
God, he was so adorable.
Eris stood up and neared him. “Jake,” she barely managed.
He sighed and put on a brave face, attempting a weak but sincere smile. “It’s alright. I just couldn’t —”
Unable to resist any longer, Eris surged towards him and flung her arms around his neck as she crashed her lips against his. Jake gasped and froze, but once he realized what was happening, she felt his whole body shudder. He engulfed her in his tight embrace and returned the kiss with a fervor that made her stomach swoop.
Finally, she thought before her mind quieted, focusing only on the sensation of Jake’s presence surrounding her entirely. She knew him, but this... This was new territory she couldn’t wait to explore.
He moaned into the kiss, his eager hands wandering from her hips to her back until one of them traveled up to tangle itself in her hair. Her heart skipped two beats before running right out of her chest. He pulled her as close as humanly possible then closer still, and as a result they stumbled onto the nearest wall. Jake pressed her up against it, slanting his lips over hers. Eris whimpered a sigh when their tongues grazed, and she couldn’t stop her knees from buckling a little at the electrifying sensation that chased up her spine.
His hands left a fiery trail wherever they went. When his mouth lowered to the side of her neck Eris gasped, her head tilting back and her fingernails digging into his shoulders. Jake hissed in pleasure and doubled his efforts on her neck by sucking lightly on her pulse point. If not for his firm grip around her, she would have fallen over at how heavenly it felt. His responding, dark chuckle at her reaction would have done her in next.
For what felt like hours, they remained entwined in each other. Her head was dizzy by the time their kisses and frantic touches slowed down into something soft, content. When they finally pulled apart, Jake rested his forehead on hers, and they exchanged goofy, joyous smiles as they caught their breath. Whatever doubts she’d been carrying had all but vanished as his fingertips pressed into the flesh of her waist.
“Just to be clear,” he panted, “this means you fancy me too, right?”
Eris laughed. “Yeah. But I could show you again if you’re still not sure.”
His grin grew even wider, and he ducked in for another short kiss. “You have no idea how terrified I was you were going to say no,” he admitted against her lips.
“It’s always been you too,” she whispered. “But I didn’t think you liked me like that anymore.”
He briefly closed his eyes, and when they opened, they were full of regret. “I’m sorry. I acted like an idiot when we had coupled up. I somehow thought I had messed up my chance when I learned that Levi was grafting on you.”
“So you pushed me away,” she said quietly.
“I convinced myself you were happier with him, so I tried to move on too.” He let out a humorless chuckle. “Not my finest moment, I’m aware.”
Eris gave him an apologetic look as she brought a hand up to the side of his face, running her thumb over his thin stubble. “I’m sorry too. I should have been honest and said something to let you know how much I liked you, but I... I don’t know. I guess I felt too wounded.”
He nodded. “I definitely could have made things easier, but I understand. I just wish we hadn’t wasted so much time together here.”
A dry smile appeared on her face. If they had actually communicated properly, they wouldn’t have gone through so much bullshit. It was as amusing as it was infuriating. “We’re a pair of dummies, huh?”
He chuckled. “I heard this place will do that to you. It’s practically our job, right? To stir as much drama as possible.”
“Well, I think it’s safe to say we take the cake there.” Eris wrinkled her nose. “How do you suppose everyone else will react?”
“We should talk about that, actually,” Jake sighed as he loosened his hold on her. The air shifted on a more serious note. “I don’t know what the situation is between you and Levi, but we’re still coupled with different people. It wouldn’t be right to surprise them with this at the recoupling later.”
A sense of dread settled in the pit of her stomach. “I told Levi we weren’t together anymore,” she muttered. “But I still need to talk to him.”
“Yeah. And I need to break up with Cherry.”
As much as Eris hated the idea of having that conversation, he was right. They couldn’t spring this on their partners at the last second, even if a part of her thought they deserved it a little. Damn Jake and his kind heart, otherwise she would ignore everyone and spend the rest of her time in the villa with him.
“This afternoon, then,” she agreed. “We’ll have to get it done before the recoupling.”
“Right. I just don’t want to be that kind of guy. I’ve made enough mistakes in here as it is.”
Eris nodded, and when she caught the remorse in his expression, she stood on her tiptoes to gently kiss him again, feeling him smile against her lips. They pulled away, and she grabbed his wrist to press one last kiss on his palm. His gaze was full of reverence, making her heart clench.
Jake suggested they get going so that hopefully, Levi and Cherry would calm down by the time the recoupling started. With reluctance, she parted from him and wished him luck with his talk with Cherry. He squeezed her shoulder in thanks as he returned the sentiment, then they left the rooftop.
Eris walked through the villa in search of Levi, her head held high but her stomach rioting with nerves. She couldn’t imagine the backlash she’d get from both the Islanders and the audience watching, but she didn’t care.
For the future she was seeking outside the show with the man she wanted by her side, this was worth it.

Thank Him Later
Bobby tells Jake he’ll thank him later when he finds him a new dessert chef.
Jake x MC
“You just gotta trust me on this one, Jakey. You’ll thank me later.” Bobby said for the fiftieth time.
Jake sighed, “You know I’m proud of ya, mate. Your shop’ll be a huge success. I just wish I could keep ya on as my dessert chef while you did it.”
Bobby knocked his shoulder, “I would if I’d have the time, but I can’t miss this chance. But my hand selected replacement will be here tomorrow, and you’re going to love her.”
“What’s her work experience again?” Jake didn’t doubt you were good, since Bobby was vouching for you. But he needed to be sure you were used to the experience of a restaurant kitchen.
“She was a baker with Kelly’s Cakes, I worked with her in the hospital kitchen, and her parents used to own a bakery in Glasgow where she was the head dessert baker.”
“Try some cumin instead of the coriander.”
Jake almost didn’t hear you. He wouldn’t have if he hadn’t been hyper aware of your presence from the moment you entered his kitchen. This was his kitchen, his restaurant, and you were a stranger. A beautiful stranger, he could admit as he glanced you over. Done up in a formfitting button up with one of those skinny ties that were big in the nineties, tucked into a pair of nice skinny jeans with a studded belt and boots. But you were a stranger nonetheless.
“You are, miss?”
“Oh, how rude of me! I’m sorry. I’m Bobby’s cousin. Name’s Y/N McKenzie, pleased to meet you, Jake.” You smiled then, big and brilliant, and Jake wanted to imprint it into his memory.
He blinked at you, “How do you-“
You shrugged, “You’re exactly as Bobs described you. Old film movie star handsome, built like a Greek god.” Jake could feel his face burn, but you just giggled. “I’m sorry. He asked me to come in today to meet you. He was supposed to be here, but my cousin is just a tad scatter brained, isn’t he?”
As if on cue, the back door to the kitchen crashed open as Bobby flailed his way through, arms waggling in the air to keep his balance when he almost tripped. “Y/N!” He cheered, sparing Jake a glance before shaking his head at you with a grin, “Already embarrassing your new boss, ain’t ya, lass?”
“It seems to be easy to do, Bobble.” You grinned at him, giving him a brief hug. “He also seems rather confused by my presence,” you pinched his side as you pulled away, “I thought you said he knew I was coming, ya knob.” Oh god, you were goofy just like Bobby. You were gorgeous. You clearly knew food if you were correcting him as soon as you entered. He could fall in love.
“He did!” Bobby yelped, looking at Jake curiously, “I don’t think he realizes who you are yet.”
You huffed at the baker, before striding across the room to the chef and holding out your hand, “I’m your new dessert chef, Jakey.”
Oh god, he was doomed.
“No, Rocco, I understand you go where the wind takes you or whatever, but you made a commitment to be here!” Jake sighed into his phone, pressed between his ear and shoulder as he worked in the kitchen. “No, the fact that you called James doesn’t make me feel better- the man is supposed to be on his honeymoon for godsake!”
“Jake?” He turned his head, barely catching his phone as it dropped from his shoulder and accidentally ending the call- not that it would’ve helped anyway. Rocco had decided to ‘take a day trip’ and ended up three countries away and too far to be back in time to man the bar like he was supposed to. The chef sighed to himself, looking to where Allegra stood with her hand cocked on her hip. She knew more about alcohol than anyone, but he had to make her the sommelier when it became very clear that she could not make drinks that were edible.
“Yes?”
She gave him a look, a cross between pity and genuine sympathy, before she nodded her head toward the dining room, “Someone is asking to meet with you about their dessert. Apparently it doesn’t look like what they ordered.”
He ran his hand down his face as he turned to his sous chef and handed over control of the kitchen while he was gone before washing his hands to meet with the customers. Allegra led him to the table, squeezing his bicep quickly before departing, something they all did to support him against the ‘Karens’ as people called them. “Hello, I’m Jake Wilson. I understand there seems to be a problem?”
The woman at the table glared, poking her dessert halfheartedly with her fork while her husband seemed to be scarfing his down. She pointed the utensil at it as she addressed Jake, “We ordered the specialty dessert, but this is not what we got last time and I am not eating it.”
Jake nodded his head, “Yes, well ma’am, we’ve recently changed dessert chefs, so the old specialty is not the specialty of the chef we have now.”
“Why we were not informed? I wouldn’t have ordered whatever this is if I had been told!”
Jake wanted to argue that each of the servers have been making that announcement before taking drink orders since you started over a week ago, but he knew that would only lead to more problems. “I understand, ma’am. If you’d like, I can take this away and-“
You seemed to appear out of nowhere, the traces of flour that he had seen smeared across your skin gone as you smiled at the woman with a plate in hand, “Hello, ma’am. I’m sorry to interrupt, but I heard the new dessert isn’t to your liking, so I’ve gone ahead and whipped up the old chef’s specialty for you. Since your eating companion seems to enjoy it, he can have your old one, and I’ll pay for that dessert myself so you won’t have to worry about it appearing in your bill.”
“Oh!” The woman blinked up at you, clearly caught off guard by how quickly you handled her, and even Jake wasn’t sure how you’d done it so fast. “Thank you.” She looked over at Jake, “Is this the new dessert chef you’ve hired? She may be worth keeping around.”
You gave them both a smile before bowing your head and excusing yourself from the table, leaving Jake to watch after you dumbstruck. He quickly cleared his throat, “Yes, ma’am. I believe she is.”
Jake took a quick walk around the dining room to make sure all the other guests were happy, but he was surprised to find you behind the bar when he made his way over, “Y/N? Shouldn’t you be in the kitchen?”
You gave him a smile, cocking an eyebrow as you poured a shaker into two cocktail glasses before passing them to two regulars sitting at the bar top, “Shouldn’t you be, boss man?” He opened his mouth but you laughed, “I’m kidding, Jake. Don’t you worry, I have enough desserts plated and prepped for now. I heard you were short handed at the bar, so I thought I’d help out.”
“You know how to bartend? And you know Bobby’s specialty dessert?”
“Of course. It was one of the first courses taught at the culinary school I studied at. And I’m the one who taught Bobby how to make that.” He was blown away. You could handle customers as quickly as you did, be ahead of schedule in the kitchen, and bartend when his cocktail guy flaked out? God, he could marry you.
You giggled with the two woman you had served at the bar, again raising your eyebrow at him, “Shouldn’t you at least treat me to dinner first?”
Jake froze, mouth gaping before he could finally push out the words, “I said that out loud?”
Valentina, one of the woman at the bar that oftentimes would help him look over the business side of the restaurant, laughed louder, “Why Mister Wilson, if I didn’t know any better I’d say you had a crush on our little dessert connoisseur.”
You poised a hand on your hip as you leaned the other into the bartop, chuckling to yourself as Angie joined in, “It certainly does seem that way, doesn’t it Val?”
Under three combined gazes, Jake scurried back to the kitchen in loo of answering.
Jake would deny it if he was ever asked, but he spent the last few months with you consistently in his peripheral. You spoke about books with James and his wife, Thabi. You rejected Rocco’s flirting without crushing his spirits, even going as far as jokingly scoring each attempt to the point where the boy admitted it was no longer about winning you, after you’d introduced him to an interior designer friend of yours, but he was just determined to score above a seven at least once (he hadn’t yet). You let Angie practice her flirting with you, even playing her wingman when she finally decided to ask out Cora before her performance on live music night in the restaurant. He’d even heard from Bobby that you would help out at his shop before going to work at the restaurant.
Everyone that worked with you absolutely adored you, but Jake was growing concerned that you’d end up burning yourself out. Why were you always available for them?
He got that answer in a way he really didn’t like.
The private dining room of the restaurant had been booked since the day after you started working for him, so he didn’t think much of who had booked it. But the whole night their event was happening, you seemed on edge and withdrawn. You had approached him at the start of the night, about to say something when one of the waitresses needed him and you waved off the whole thing. Rocco had thrown a few flirtatious lines at you, but you never seemed to hear him and it was concerning everyone. You were bubbly and fun and energetic, but tonight you were jumping at every loud noise- and in a kitchen that means you were jumping every few minutes. When the event head caught Jake at the entrance of the kitchen, she told him that the event recipients wanted to express their thanks to the head chef, and the dessert chef, in person.
But when he approached you about it, you plastered on the most fake professional smile he’d ever seen before following him out to the dining room. As a habit, he let his hand drift to your lower back- just something he’d been doing when former customers had wanted to meet you after trying your sweets, as if he were presenting you as the genius because you were.
And you were so thankful for it to ground you as the one voice you didn’t want to hear rang out over the rest.
“Y/N. Have you been sampling too much of your sugary garbage again? You’ve put on some weight.”
Jake was taken aback. You still looked the same size you had been when you started working for him, so what did this guy mean?
You just took a deep breath, smiling politely, “I don’t know what you mean, Dylan. I’m the same size I’ve been for years.”
The man in front of you, after pushing his way through his teammates, just rolled his eyes, “You must’ve stopped using the fitness routine I gave you or something. You’re definitely putting on some weight right here.” He reached out to poke your stomach, and you jolted back.
“Sir, I will ask you keep your hands to yourself.” Jake heard himself say, his voice deeper and almost darker sounding than usual.
Dylan scoffed, “She’s my girlfriend. I’ll touch her if I want, and no one is gonna stop me.”
Your face shifted into a glare Jake had never seen on your beautiful face before, “We went on five dates. Our ‘relationship’ as you keep calling it lasted less than a month- and when it was over I had to file a restraining order against you. Legally, I could’ve forced you to leave this building as soon as you entered it. I-“
“What?” He scoffed again, “Are you gonna tell me that you moved on from this already? What, with him? Is that how you got your job? Too busy sucking his dick to make something worth actually eating?”
The others around him looked positively shocked that he would say something like that, but Jake was seething.
You just shook your head, “I happen to like Jake. And any relationship I enter is none of your business. I’ve received more awards for my desserts than the number of games you’ve won. I haven’t spoken to you in over a year, and I have never questioned my worth, now matter how much you tried to shatter it. I know it’s more than you’re willing to let me believe. Does your team even know about the real you?” The man took a step toward you, but you didn’t step back. You stared defiantly into his face, “Go ahead, Dylan. Tell them about how you got jealous over Bobby- my bloody cousin- and tried to force me to stop talking to him. Tell them about the time you forced me to lift on your bench and broke my arm trying to force me to take twice your body weight on the bar. Tell them about the times you’ve torn my clothes apart because they were ‘too revealing’ for your tastes, even though you spent the whole day flirting with women that wore the skimpiest outfits I’ve ever seen. Tell them-“ his hand shot out and gripped your arm.
“You’re gonna stop running your damn mouth or I’m-“ he cut himself off with a shout full of pain as Jake gripped his wrist, loosening his hold on you immediately.
“I am going to ask you one time to leave my establishment or I will be suing this organization for scheduling their event here after the woman with a restraining order on you was hired. You are done harassing Y/N.” The event head immediately began rounding up the other players, placing phone calls for drivers to come back and pick up their fares. Two of the larger players took hold of Dylan’s arms, intent on pulling him away, but even as they got him out the door he wasn’t going quietly. He screamed at you, calling you every name in the book, but you never looked away. You held your head high. Jake sighed next to you, “If you had told me, I would’ve had Tai and Ciaran escort him out as soon as he arrived.”
You shrugged, smiling up at him- and this time it was real, “I’m not afraid of him. In fact, I feel freer.”
He huffed a laugh, “I’m going to give Bobby a call. Tell him to come give you a lift home. You’re done for the night.”
You gasped, “Mister Wilson, we have an entire dining room full of eaters that are going to need dessert! You can’t let me leave so early or someone is going to think you fancy me.”
Jake shrugged, now might not be the time, but he’s done waiting, “So what if I do?”
You took hold of his hand, interlacing your fingers as you tugged him back to the kitchen, “Then I expect you to have dinner with me at the end of the night.”
Bobby was right. Jake would need to thank him, because he was definitely loving you.

top 5 litg ships (can be either characters x mc or character x character)?
ooh, i like this ask, let's see...
platonically speaking
jake x rohan | in both the platonic and non-platonic, those two are wholesome together
tim x talia x mc | another friend group that cannot be missed, those two were there for mc from the start
angie x mc| no one has your back more than this girl and you can say otherwise, i just will agree to disagree
bruno x youcef / bruno x kobi |i'm sorry but that goodbye scene between bruno and kobi is just soft; bruno and youcef is a bromance that can't be missed
lucas x henrik | the duo the leaves all other duos in the shadow, still wishing they had more scenes of these two
romance-wise
thabi x james | those two were meant to be like no other pairing
mc x bruno | this guy is the biggest sweetheart, i can't, have you met any other islander who would happily take you anywhere else instead of straight into the drama
jake x rohan | i said what i said
thabi x youcef| those two had something, it was there and then it just never got spoken about
angie x oliver | they haven't gotten anywhere yet, but i know those two would be fire

Hi there! I have a question about Jake. How do you think life would be with MC after the villa? I can definitely see him spoiling her and trying to make up for taking so long to confess his feelings for her. I've been reading (and loving) your LITG posts for months and finally gained the courage to ask a question lol
asks are always welcome, i'm glad you sent one!
jake x mc (life after the villa)
❤️ taking her on a trip for two, to have a very intimate couple of weeks where they can enjoin a vacation without any pressure. the villa was
finding a little house to stay, one with a kitchen so he can show off his cooking skills
mornings smell like fresh coffee and vanilla pancakes. there's always a fresh cut of flowers on the tray.
"i want to spoil you as much as i can."
diving, walking on the beach, shopping sprees can happen but they almost can't find the time since the bedroom is so "pretty"
he'll make up a recipe for lunch, something colorful and nutritious and name it after mc
❤️ the very beginning has a lot of breaks from work so they can spend time together. mostly for jake to make up for the time in the villa, like you said.
❤️ he'll use his key privilege the right way, which is coming to her place and cooking her a surprise meal.
❤️ taking her out to eat in his restaurant; everyone knows her and she has a captive chair in the kitchen after the place closes.
❤️ jake learned the hard way that not everyone is into poetry but i reckon he would be humorous about it, and write some funny ones for mc.
❤️ couples' massages, mostly on the weekends, to relax together.
❤️ i headcanon concerts being one of his favorite things to do in a couple so he's scoring good tickets for them every now and then.
❤️ his schedule might be messed up for a while (since most restaurants have their chef in the early everning and late night) but he doesn't care. even if it's just a couple of hours he wants to hang out with her.
❤️ posting pictures of them, as a couple, might be delayed for a while; everything is recent and he doesn't wanna jinx it. plus, it adds more pressure and it's all really new.
❤️ moving in is entirely up to mc because he for sure wants it but he understands they need time, as a couple.
❤️ when she does he's already made space for her everywhere, except for the kitchen: "you won't never have to cook a day in your life if you don't want to."

Miss Adaline Chalcraft is the graceful but headstrong botany teacher at Rosehill House - an old and distinguised boarding school for gifted young ladies in Regency England. As a rare sanctuary for women, it is a place that has long prided itself on the poise and spinsterhood of its staff. Now however, change is arriving in the form of the new librarian, and a man at that...

ooh wait you play litg? if you dont mind me asking, who were you romancing?
besides jakub ofc - sorry x
I did play season 1 and 2!
in season 1 i romanced talia and jake but talia is definitely my fave, she's my wife and i miss her every day 😔
in season 2 I romanced most of the characters a bit (except jak*b ofc, don't confuse me with lyu, i for one actually have taste ❤️) but full routes I only did for marisol, lucas and bobby the true loml, the #1 baby girl, the one and only
I liked marisol herself but didn't like her route. HATE how in the sapphic routes you can only get together in the last few days bc "otherwise some of the men would have to leave 🥺" like this is literally a competition and they could choose eachother if they weren't cowards <3 her route would've been so much better if you could have gotten together in casa amor. also somehow her and mcs dynamic felt kinda off to me after they finally got together idk
also fr wish we could've romanced blake. like why fight over a man when we could literally be making out with eachother instead 😩😩😩
also desperately wanted to romance priya, so homophobic that we couldn't. and shanon and chelsea
