For the battery asks: 49%
thank you!!! tcol answers out the ass today :3c
49%. Are there any behaviors that your other characters do that irk your character? Is your character ever vocal about their annoyance?
i’ll do this for the main five so;
piper gets super annoyed with whatever Complex san has going on and the two of them clash often. she’s very vocal about being pissed off and annoyed by the shit that san does lmao. she’s also very irritated by illiana because she always acts like she’s better than her and is always around keevan and clinging off him (and she knows it’s jealousy she just won’t admit to that out loud); she does make that known but it’s a bit more difficult to DO anything about it bc illiana is a noble tm.
deux doesn’t tend to get annoyed Often but she does get annoyed more in random bursts or related to specific situations. erik’s closeness with her brother actually does annoy her in part because she misses what she and her brother had but also because he wont ever give her information about why dion is Like This. so it just irritates her but she keeps it to herself.
san is annoyed by A LOT OF PEOPLE and they’re very vocal about it shdhdhdj. piper for always challenging them and getting in their face, clear because tldr: he has everything they want out of life but he “threw it away” (it’s more rage at him than irritation and a lot of projection but we move), their sister moira for also having what she wants and being used as a litmus test for how good they are no matter how much they fight to stand on their own merit, and moira’s friends (jagoda especially but karenza eryn and kiba also) for being friends with her at all. san is a super bitter person and that’s part of their arc: working through that shit.
clear is VERY SLIGHTLY annoyed by san and deux on occasion but he never says anything because he knows it’s not their fault and they don’t understand/it’s his issue to deal with. deux because of her crush and closeness to forte, and san for just… projecting onto him basically. but he’s not really annoyed enough to talk about it bc he just hates himself more in response lol,,,
forte doesn’t have anyone that annoys him really tbh. but if he did he would be upfront about it.

Grand Slam - Blue Requiem: Chapter 6
Location: Yumenosaki Grounds (Sports Festival) Characters: Tetora, Tomoya, Midori, Shinobu, Subaru, Hokuto, Makoto, Mao, Sora, Hiiro, Aira, Mayoi & Hitsugi
TL Note:
The ninjutsu art of water-breathing is a technique used by ninjas to breathe underwater by using a stick of bamboo as a snorkel.
< Ten or so minutes later. Right before the beginning of the second event, “Fisherman” on Day 2 of the “Old-Fashioned Sports Festival”. >
Tumblr media
Makoto: It looks like the “Fisherman” event is basically diving.
Kind of like a female diver who collects seaweed and shells? The players will be wearing a wetsuit that allows them to move freely in the water and they’ll have to dive to find treasure in the sea.
Three members from each team can take part.
It looks like anyone can swim freely in the water thanks to the device attached to the swimsuit, but someone with diving experience would be better, huh.
Who wants to take part in this event?
Subaru: ………☆
Hokuto: Don’t look at me with those hopeful eyes, Akehoshi. I can’t swim so I’m not entering.
Subaru: But that’s exactly what I wanna see.
Mao: What are you, the devil? …Uhh, even if we want someone who’s good at swimming, it’s strange that our school doesn’t have a swimming club even though we’re by the ocean.
Shinobu: I’m good at swimming! The ninjutsu art of water-breathing[*] is an essential part of ninja training ~de gozaru! I’ve had Shinkai-dono submerge me in the water, so I’m used to it!
Mao: I see. Well, since the players will be a group of three, having the other two in “RYUUSEITAI” take part might not be a bad idea.
Midori: I’m dragged into this now…!?
Tetora: Well, I don’t mind~ We’ve had the newbies from “RYUUSEITAI” take part in the events so far, so we upperclassmen have an abundance of stamina left.
Midori: I would have been happy if my turn never came, though…
Mao: All right. Then, that’s decided. You’re fine with that, right, Leader?
Wait, huh? Where’s our leader, Shiratori? Is he not back yet?
Hiiro: It looks like Aira was busy talking with someone from the “producer course”!
Mayoi: Yes. I wonder what they could be talking about. It seemed to be oddly serious and rather intriguing…
Tumblr media
Hitsugi: Yeah. As I thought, it looks like there aren’t any problems.
It seems the “ceremony” you mentioned is actually taking effect, Harukawa-san.
Aira: Umm. I’d like an explanation, though. Uhh, please, if you will?
Hitsugi: Oh! You don’t have to talk to me formally like that! We’re the idol’s underlings, after all!
Aira: In terms of positions, I think a “producer” is higher, though…? Anyway, what was that litmus paper thing you made us hold in our mouths?
Hitsugi: It’s a talisman that will change colour when it reacts to “something bad”. It has proved to be effective as demonstrated by the experiment with the animals from the grower barn.
It seems the religious group who created these papers disbanded and they haven’t been reproduced, so it’s extremely valuable. That’s why I don’t ever use them, though.
Aira: “Something bad”? Talisman? Religious group…?
I have no clue what you’re talking about. Are you following, Mashiro-senpai?
Tomoya: Nope, but I’ve been hearing those weird words from time to time.
Hitsugi: A long, long time ago.
There lived the “sea people”. They were a mysterious group of people who had their own culture and religion.
They were called the “sea people” because they lived with the sea. A theory as to why the Yumenosaki uniform is blue is because it reminds people of the sea, and they wanted to honour the indigenous people.
Aira: W-What? What’s with the sudden story?
Hitsugi: Ehe~... It might be an astonishing story for you but, if you’d like, please listen until the end. It won’t be fair if only Harukawa-san knows the truth.
Sora: …………
Hitsugi: This isn’t something completely unrelated to Yumenosaki students, after all.
Tomoya: ………?
Hitsugi: This happened a long time ago, way before Yumenosaki Academy was established. No records of them exist and their traces only exist in stories.
The “sea people” were completely persecuted by wild people who arrived after them.
They were robbed of their riches and their lives. They didn’t have the strength to fight or resist.
That’s why they ran away.
If you can’t fight, then all you can do is run, right? But they knew nothing of the outside world and maybe there was another reason too, but they couldn’t leave this land.
The others either hid underground or within the depths of the sea, which most wouldn’t dare approach.
They resented and cursed the people who persecuted them like it was the most natural thing in the world.
The vengeful spirits of those woeful people are considered the “bad thing”.
There are various theories, though. One states the “bad thing” existed far earlier in time.
And it overflowed because the “sea people” used to suppress it but they left.
They had intended to exterminate the vermin, but the pests ran rampant instead. It’s that sort of story.
Also, this isn’t the doings of the vengeful spirits – meaning, it’s not a “mystery” that cannot be explained by science.
It’s said it’s more like a living weapon the descendants of the “sea people” secretly created underground. Put simply, it’s a new pathogen with no existing method of treatment.
Tomoya: Pathogen… Hey, wait, is that why we weren’t feeling well?
Hitsugi: Ahh~ It’s okay. Even if you were infected by it, you should have fully recovered from it by now. The litmus paper you held in your mouth before is proof of that.
Tomoya: Well, before taking part in the “Old-Fashioned Sports Festival”, the doctor did give me their stamp of approval saying I was completely healthy.
They said I was probably sick because of mental shock or overworking.
Hitsugi: Aha~ There’s no way a doctor can give an accurate diagnosis for a completely unknown illness.
Tomoya: Don’t say something so anxiety-inducing~... I-I should get another check-up done later.
Hitsugi: Yes. That’s important. Take care of your health and live for a long time, everyone.

Another entry from my journal:
6/20/2012. Wednesday 4:16pm
Age 56’s last hour has begun. ‘“Strange Rivers” plays, Joan Baez. I dedicate the song to “56”. The year I discovered the song. Only a coupon book in the mail. Again, like last June 20, an empty mail box—birthday card free. Echos the hollow tone of truncated relationship. But, it contained an outbound card from MAC and I to Zoe.
So, some birthday thoughts.
17th birthday 1972 and 18th birthday 1973: clean and sober.
42nd birthday, 1997 New York City. Hungover when I got to the San Francisco airport with Jim. Sick when we landed in Indianapolis. Photos of drinks on a piano bar in New York City. 15 years ago. Unbelievable. Jim and I had just met. (I took this trip by myself).
54th birthday 2009. Nine days dry (stopped drinking alcohol). If only it lasted.
55th birthday 2010. South Beach, Florida. Round trip fun drink fest. No problems.
56th birthday 2011. Kaiser chemical dependency out patient meeting.
57th birthday 2012. Adam Sandler “That’s my boy”. All the drinking was on the screen.
Like the year 1972-1973. First bookend natal year clean. (2011-2012) 40 year gap.
So, today, the giant thud of family silence vs a very pleasant, fun day. Life’s nice outside the corporate, secret zone. 56 was the relapse prevention year. 56 was a success.
In the Adam Sandler movie, he always had a beer. I told MAC it reminded me of me back then (when I drank).
When I don’t drink, I’m not hostage to a situation. I can leave. Drive. Today let’s me see that my old life has ended. No old friends have chimed in. Birthdays are watershed days. A litmus test. New potential client’s Grandma said “57. You are young. I’m 68 and still working. I like my job.” She asked “ Do lawyers retire?” Me “No”. Her “I didn’t think so.”
Because of not drinking, I’ll remember the day.
I didn’t buy any special gifts today.
It was a pretty normal, routine day. Very little “I deserve”
End of entry.

finished reading your deltarune and ut tics and i am so fascinated by the player's presence and the way you write them!!!
like, they appear to be this powerful, otherworldly entity, with compassion and hostility untold, but in reality they're just Some Guy™
like, i guessed from the whole 'skip his dialogue' section that this was someone who'd watched a play through and wanted to fight sans, but couldn't get past him and rage quit. which is a very relatable experience, but in the context of the Universe its absolutely terrifying.
This Some Guy has caused untold suffering, and continues to harm their host, but... they don't know that? i mean, they do, we all do, but we don't know know that, on the level that the characters understand. is a no mercy runner who goes on to play deltarune in a pacifist fashion someone hiding from their true nature like a coward? no! of course not! and the game cannot punish you for that, because you are just exploring the avenues it gave you. and it feels mean, from mr fox's end
of course, this gives way for fanfic to explore these questions from the character's perspective, so ty for sharing your fic :D
finally have time to sit down and answer this!! first of all, this is SUCH a sweet message. thank you so much for taking the time to send me all of your thoughts! with the deltarune fics (particularly "arcane apocrypha") it was definitely all about how a presence like the player would be interpreted by the characters in canon, but in a much more meta way. it was fun to play on the idea of eldritch horror there + i wanted to envision how the characters who are aware of the player would interpret differing/inconsistent inputs from them. how can you interpret the character of an entity that appears benevolent 99% of the time, but the other 1% of the time veers off the rails entirely into depravity? they'd surely feel really unknowable and mysterious, even if it's Just Some GuyTM trying to mimic something they saw a let's player do on twitch or something. haha whereas with the UT fic approach, it was a lot less...medium-aware, if that makes sense? the DR fic knows it's a game, the UT fic does not. and i find that a lot scarier, in some ways. the idea of someone reaching down and controlling you but not being entirely aware of what's going on or where outside influence might end and your own desires or actions begin. that version of the player is ABSOLUTELY someone who rage quit the no mercy route and reset. haha! i wanted to own that player input matters in all routes, but it was hard to work that in without losing focus so i added a small bit of dialogue mentioning that "the voice" may have been present in multiple timelines, but that it was all a blur. i think investigating what that maybe less jarring influence might look like in a...less stabby timeline would be interesting in the future, but i'm not sure if it's something folks would want to read. i may write it anyways for myself! (: you're absolutely on to something here in that at the end of the day, UTDR is here to explore tropes and tell a story. and that it shouldn't be taken as a litmus test for someone's actual morality or anything. how can we possibly gain anything from a narrative with which we refuse to engage? we really shouldn't feel bad about playing, because we're supposed to. i personally don't think DR will end in a way that is strictly accusatory because i don't think toby would want to punish us for playing his game, per se. i've seen people express distress and say that they feel bad for playing DR. but at the end of the day, even with their meta commentaries, these games are meant to be played. we can't possibly crack open their shells and slurp up that good good lore juice if we don't. and these are stories that are certainly valuable experiences. i've said it before, but fanon is frequently much edgier and much less charitable than anything toby fox would write himself. so we should all keep playing and appreciating his story. (: anyways, fanfic is a great place to explore these story implications and take them to their current logical conclusions. so i'm glad you enjoyed the ride! thanks again for this really thoughtful message! <3

What to Know When Relocating to Florida for Retirement
Florida is the leading retirement destination in the U.S., partly due to its tantalizing tax breaks. However, it’s not the only option in town. More people are choosing to spend their golden years in non-Floridian cities. If you still want to move into the Sunshine State when you hit 62, you should consider various factors to make a clear-headed decision about this significant life change.
Is Florida Losing Its Appeal to Retirees?
Make no mistake about it — the Land of Flowers continues to attract the most golden-agers crossing state lines for retirement. In 2022, it magnetized 11.8% of out-of-state pensioners in the nation and the only one to grab a share above 10%.
However, Florida doesn’t have the distinction of hosting the most number of people aged 65 and above, nor does it record the highest percentage of seniors relative to its population. Two reasons can explain these phenomena.
Competition
Floridian towns aren’t as compelling to some retiring baby boomers as other American cities. Austin takes the cake, seeing its population of adults over 65 ballooned by 90.4% from 2010 to 2020. The other big gainers were:
Boise, Idaho
Atlanta, Georgia
Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina
Houston, Texas
Charleston, South Carolina
ATX has a booming tech hub. The influx of young people relocating to the Texas capital for employment opportunities has inspired an inundation of oldsters.
In 2021, Mesa, Arizona, tallied a net migration of over 3,600 older residents — the country’s highest. Henderson, Nevada, netted over 1,600 while San Antonio had over 1,100. Rounding out the top five were North Las Vegas, Nevada, and Boise, Idaho, with over 1,000 net retirees each.
The biggest selling point of the Valley’s gateway is its climate. It's warm and low-humidity — a comforting combination for old-timers. Plus, it’s conveniently close to Phoenix while costing significantly less.
Aging in Place
With a median age of 44.7 years old, Maine is the oldest state in the country. Although its retirement-age population is small by national standards, seniors represent 21.8% of its citizenry. What’s more, most of the boomers calling it home are local-born. Mainers exemplify aging in place more strongly than any other Americans.
A 2022 survey found that 88% of U.S. adults aged 50-80 believe staying in their houses for as long as possible is important. Most of Florida’s retirees originate outside its borders. The peninsula may receive fewer retirees in the future if the positive sentiments toward aging in place remain pervasive.
3 Things to Consider Before Moving to Florida for Retirement
Other states and cities are gaining a reputation for being retirement paradises, but it doesn’t mean Florida has gotten undesirable. It remains on its throne because no other place can offer a better package for retirees.
Still, the Citrus Capital appeals only to specific seniors. Use these three factors as a litmus test for its suitability for you.
1. Cost of Living
The Orange State is the nation’s fastest-growing, but it’s bigger than census data suggests. It appeals to students, entrepreneurs, workers and snowbirds, not just retirees. Plus, it’s the most touristy state — more than 137 million people visited it in 2022. The larger the crowd, the more expensive goods and services can be.
The massive number of people wanting to live or stay in Florida has resulted in scorching local real estate markets. Home values average $383,000, but they can surpass $560,000 in Miami and other urban centers. Insurance premiums can also be pricey due to the state’s susceptibility to catastrophes.
Rent in Florida can go through the roof. Notable rental markets, such as Orlando, Palm Bay, Tampa, Cape Coral and North Port, exceed the national average, rendering many residents considerably rent-burdened.
Food and health care can also be expensive in the Everglade State. While the theme park capital of the world has plenty of entertainment options, the price of watching movies, visiting amusement parks and experiencing live sports games can be steep.
Although the state has diverse modes of public transportation in metro areas, the typical Floridian owns a private vehicle. You can go electric to avoid gas expenses, but monthly utilities, including electricity, in the state are higher than in many parts of the country.
Considering Florida’s cost of living, converting some of your assets into cash before moving may be wise. Decide which properties to leave your heirs and which ones to sell. The least burdensome assets for your loved ones to cash in are prime candidates for liquidation. Putting them on the block can expose them to more serious buyers, sell them quickly and get as much value from them as possible.
2. Wildlife
The Manatee State has world-class natural wonders, but its breathtaking landscape can harbor terrifying fauna. Depending on where you stay, you may encounter alligators, bears, panthers, herons, pelicans, snakes or dolphins.
Many of these creatures are usually no threat to humans unless they feel threatened. They can be dangerous, but they won’t bite if you get out of their way and treat them respectfully. They’re Florida natives, so learn how to coexist with them.
As a general rule, avoid intruding into their habitats to discourage them from becoming territorial. Also, limit your interactions with them. They’re wild animals, so you can’t expect them to be tame or tolerant of humans.
3. Weather
Florida goes by the nickname the Sunshine State for a reason. It gets 230-250 days of sunshine yearly. These days can be humid but pleasant news if you’re outdoorsy and love to socialize. However, the other days can be menacing.
Florida gets the most hurricanes out of all the states. About two to three make landfall in its southernmost region. Category-3 Hurricane Idalia — the only landfalling hurricane the country saw in 2023 — got close to Keaton Beach, causing up to 12 feet of storm surge inundation and flooding the southeast with heavy downpours.
Floridian cities are some of the most vulnerable to climate change, too. Rising sea levels and frequent coastal flooding will exacerbate the usual natural disasters the Hurricane State endures once the effects of global warming are in full swing.
Coastal waters surpassed the flooding thresholds of Fernandina Beach, Cedar Key, Pensacola, Mayport and St. Petersburg for more days on average from 2013 to 2022 than they did from 1950 to 1959. These figures indicate the sea had been encroaching on these communities more frequently — evidence of worsening climate change. Frequent coastal flooding threatens the Florida residents’ health and safety and the structural integrity of waterfront properties.
Regarding seasons, the Gulf State’s climate is too mild to notice changes between spring, summer, fall and winter. If you love how the environment transforms as seasons roll around, Florida may not be for you.
Should You Start Your Life’s Next Chapter in Florida?
The Retirement State doesn’t have it all, but millions of pensioners consider it the closest to perfection. If what Florida offers suits your lifestyle and budget, you’ll have the time of your life there.

Brock Purdy’s Struggles Highlighted in 49ers’ Loss to Ravens
Tumblr media
Purdy’s Career-Worst Performance Raises Concerns Ahead of Crucial Games
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy faced a formidable challenge against the Baltimore Ravens on Monday night, resulting in a career-low performance that included four interceptions, marking a stark departure from his previous showings. The 33-19 defeat added to the Niners’ season record, dropping them to 11-4.
Turmoil on the Field
Purdy’s night against the Ravens turned disastrous early on. He encountered difficulties, throwing a trio of interceptions in the first half alone. Coach Kyle Shanahan acknowledged the rarity of Purdy’s struggles, citing the unpredictability of the NFL. The quarterback’s difficulties compounded as he ended the game prematurely due to a left shoulder stinger.
Reflection and Redemption
Post-game, a visibly introspective Brock Purdy contemplated the setbacks faced against the Ravens, expressing determination to rebound for the upcoming clash against the Washington Commanders. Acknowledging his responsibility in the defeat, Purdy emphasized the need for personal improvement to support his team adequately.
MAJOR 49ers Injury News After BLOWOUT Loss vs. Ravens: Brock Purdy, Trent Williams, Instant Reaction
youtube
Critical Errors and Team Impact
Despite an initial promising drive, Purdy’s decisions led to interceptions, causing substantial setbacks for the Niners. Shanahan highlighted the pivotal nature of the initial interception while acknowledging the unfortunate circumstances surrounding the subsequent interceptions.
Injury Concerns and Defensive Pressure
Purdy’s departure from the game was hastened by a sack from Ravens’ Jadeveon Clowney, aggravating a previous shoulder issue. Shanahan’s decision to keep Brock Purdy out of the game also factored in the team’s depleted offensive line due to injuries sustained during the match.
Path to Redemption and Playoff Hopes
The defeat didn’t shatter the 49ers’ playoff prospects entirely. Despite the setback, they retain control over their NFC playoff positioning. Two upcoming games against the Washington Commanders and the Los Angeles Rams will determine their postseason fate, with a potential shot at the NFC’s No. 1 seed.
Purdy’s Redemption Journey
Purdy faces a crucial phase in his NFL journey, aiming to rebound after his worst career outing. His self-reflection post-game emphasizes the need for consistency, growth, and resilience, regardless of success or adversity.
Looking Ahead
As the 49ers navigate the fallout from Brock Purdy’s struggles, all eyes are on his response in the face of adversity. The upcoming games will serve as a litmus test for his character and resilience, defining his ability to lead the team during challenging times.
Purdy’s resolve to remain steadfast in his approach and work through setbacks indicates a determination to emerge stronger from this experience, solidifying his role as a leader within the 49ers’ roster.

Vinicio Capossela – Il ballo di San Vito

However, that works as a good litmus test for people who know Waits but don’t know anything about canzone d’autore 40 years on from its conception. This recording works live tracks into the studio mix. Although…

[ad_1] Now, as he heads into the biggest clay court tournament of them all, the French Open, Fritz is coming off other setbacks: a pulled stomach muscle from April’s Monte-Carlo Masters and a recent bout of the flu. The top-seeded American man in the tournament, and the 13th ranked player in the world, he faces Argentinian qualifier Santiago Fa Rodriguez in the first round, on Monday May 23. He's hoping to fare better than he did at last year’s French Open, when he was wheeled off the clay after a second round loss to Germany’s Dominik Koepfer. Fritz had felt a pop in his right knee during match point, and once he sat down, was unable to stand again. He underwent surgery, and then spent three and half hours a day, six days a week, doing physical therapy. His meniscus was still intact, the damaged cartilage was snipped out, and Fritz adhered to a high-protein diet to minimize inflammation, purely for the sake of making it to Wimbledon on time. His dad worried. “Everyone told him not to play Wimbledon, including me,” Guy says. “I begged him not to play. I thought the grass was too slippery.” Miraculously, three weeks post-op, Fritz waltzed into the third round of the tournament. He knows he’s lucky that he hasn’t had to deal with a truly sidelining injury yet, the kind of perpetual frailty that certain players become associated with—think of Andy Murray’s hip or Roger Federer’s knee—and that can derail a good year, or worse, a promising career. “If you’re out for a couple months,” Fritz says, “it’s going to absolutely destroy your ranking.”Off the court, Fritz splits his time between Miami and his native California, where he grew up in dreamy Rancho Santa Fe, California, 20 miles north of downtown San Diego. Fritz’s dad, now in his second stint as the head men’s tennis coach at the College of the Desert, in the town of Desert Springs, had him out on the family’s private backyard court at the age of 2. Fritz started with a two-handed toddler forehand grip, occasionally hitting balls into the side of the ball machine across the net. “He couldn’t even pronounce ‘ball machine’ yet," says Guy, "so he’d tell me, ‘Daddy, I hit the ‘chine, I hit the ‘chine.”  In Fritz's recollection, as a kid, he didn’t even like tennis that much. He loved to compete, but mostly in other sports—basketball, lacrosse, baseball, football. The slog of tennis practice was hard to get through. Both of his parents had been professional tennis players, though—his mom, Kathy May, was once ranked number 10 in the world, having reached the quarterfinals of three Grand Slams—and Fritz knew he wanted to be a professional athlete, too. So, at age 14, he dropped the sports he loved most for the one he showed the most promise in. Three years later he turned pro.For anyone considering a career in tennis, playing the 110-degree court heat at the USTA training facilities in Boca Raton is a good litmus test, and at 15, Fritz started making the occasional sojourn to the famed headquarters. When he first arrived, he quickly fell in with two other young American players who were already living in the dorms together—Reilly Opelka, who would become known for his monstrous serve and staggering height, and Tommy Paul, lightning quick and deft on clay. “We were all practicing on clay,” Paul says, “and in California there’s not a lot of clay courts out there, so I remember him showing up and just looking all clumsy.” At one point, Fritz wiped out on a treadmill going 6.5 mph. “We saw him and were like, what a Cali kid. He was just super California.” Apparently Fritz was the only one at that age using hair gel. That, and he brought self tanner spray with him to Florida to maintain his “California glow.” [ad_2] Source link

6 games to circle on the 2022 NFL schedule
Tumblr media
Set Number: X163914 TK1
These are the games every football fan should watch.
The 2022 NFL schedule is upon us, and now we march towards fall. With the draft in the rear view mirror, and training camp ahead of us, we wait to see how rosters around the league will settle before the start of the league year.
This year gives us some truly fascinating matchups, and these are the games I’m circling on the calendar as can’t-miss. Regardless of who your favorite team is, anyone who likes football should be waiting for these.
Bills vs. Chiefs — Week 6
Hell yeah I’ll take a rematch of the AFC Divisional Playoff game between these two, which was without a doubt the best game of the year.
While that game only took place in January, the complexion of this matchup looks entirely different. The Chiefs had some major retooling to do after trading away Tyreek Hill, while the Bills are more or less the same team that pushed Kansas City to the limit earlier this year.
This could be a serious litmus test in the AFC to see if the Bills are ready to win it all and head to the Super Bowl, or whether they’re still struggling to get over that hump.
Dolphins vs. 49ers — Week 13
I’m a sucker for matchups between coaches, and no game this year will be as fascinating from a coach vs. coach perspective than this one. You have Kyle Shanahan leading the 49ers, now with Trey Lance at the helm — taking on his protege in Mike McDaniel, entering his first year as Dolphins head coach.
These two have spent years together. They know each other intently. McDaniel orchestrated San Francisco’s offense, and knows every player on that team, while Shanahan understands McDaniel’s tendencies. It’s going to be interesting to see how the Dolphins look, how the Niners play with Lance leading them, and watch the jousting match between the two coaches.
Browns vs. Texans — Week 13
This one needs no explanation, but naturally it’s all about Deshaun Watson. The Browns are convinced that Watson will get them over the hump and into the Super Bowl, while the Texans are rebuilding.
That said, Houston might have been bad in 2021, but they were more competitive that people expected. There’s every chance they could take a big step forward in 2022, especially if Davis Mills ends up being what the team hopes he can be.
Meanwhile, assuming Watson isn’t suspended by the NFL, this game is a litmus test for Cleveland’s chances to make a run. They’ll want to win, and win big.
Bengals vs. Buccaneers — Week 15
I like the age matchup here, not dissimilar to the Super Bowl between the Bengals and Rams. I know Cincinnati’s appearance in the big game was seen as an outlier, but I think it can become a staple of this franchise as it moves forward.
This game will take strides to deciding that. If the young Bengals can hang with Tom Brady and the Bucs it will go a long way to make people believe they’re here to stay.
Chiefs vs. Broncos — Week 14
The pressure is on Russell Wilson to prove he can get Denver to the point it can hang with the AFC West’s best. It’s unfair to have the expectation that the Broncos can win the division immediately and make a deep playoff run, after all Peyton Manning lost early in the playoffs during his first season in Denver.
However, there is the belief, at least from fans, that this team was a top-tier quarterback away, not just from a playoff run, but challenging for the AFC Championship. None of that happens without getting through the Chiefs, and it will be on Wilson to prove he is the difference maker the team believed him to be when they made their big trade.
Rams vs. Chiefs — Week 12
These two teams are the measuring stick by which their respective divisions are measured — even now. Both are considered Super Bowl contenders, and we’ll get a great sense of where the power lies in the NFL when these teams meet.
Furthermore, the relative strength of this matchup holds significance for other teams in the NFC and AFC. How each of these teams looks could help us work out whether the power still lies in these teams, or if its shifted to the Bills, Buccaneers, or another team we’re not expecting.
