I just feel like all of those boys need to be able to relax once and a while and Mr. Keating would be over the moon to help his boys out and be even more thrilled that they all feel comfortable enough to be vulnerable and small around him. Cg!Mr. Keating and Little!DPS Headcanons :3

General:

Keating loves these boys like they were his own

As such he makes sure they all have a place to go that they know will be safe if they can't regress in their own room or if their cg is away

This place ultimately ends up being his office, in which he keeps lots of little gear and sensory stuff (well hidden from the prying eye)

They don't trust him all at once (Todd and Cameron take the longest), but eventually they all spend many a Saturday playing in Mr. Keating's office while he does some paperwork

It's a cozy scene, and one they are all glad of after the long weeks of Hellton

Neil

Neil is, of course, the one who trusts Keating first

He's already something of a parental figure to Neil, so when Niel decides to open up about his regression, nothing really changes

He does treat him a bit gentler when regressed, less pushing and more gentle persuasion (this really goes for all the boys)

Neil LOVES it when Keating reads to him, so he makes sure to buy his favorite books whenever he can

Lots of Arthurian Fairytales and Adventure Stories

Keating will also play whatever role Neil needs him to play in the shows he puts on with his stuffies

(He usually ends up playing the "scary" villain or the wise old wizard)

Neil isn't very used to physical affection from a parental figure, so it takes a while for him to warm up to Keating's casual hair ruffles or back pats

The second Neil gets uncomfortable, Keating stops, but it can be difficult to tell at times

Neil is very good at hiding how he truly feels

Keating actually has an oddly hard time telling when he's regressed if he's not told

But the second Neil comes into his office upset, he is ready to accommodate whatever he needs

Pacifier? On it

Comforting words? A whole notebook full

Someone to sit and listen? He's always had a good ear

He ends up being just what Neil needs in the absence of his own father

Todd

Again, he takes the longest out of all the poets to trust Mr. Keating enough to regress around him

He and Cameron usually just sat off to the side, watching the others play enviously

It wasn't that Todd didn't want to play, but the idea of being that vulnerable in front of others made him want to puke

No matter how much he tried to hide his discomfort, Keating always seemed to know what he was feeling

He was very good at making sure Todd was still included even if he wasn't comfortable enough to regress around him

Offers to take care of the others usually disguised an excuse for Todd to play and have fun while still being comfortable

Eventually the two had a conversation about Todd's feelings on regressing in front of Keating and the other Poets (which is something Keating would never force him to do)

They came to the decision that Todd would start regressing in front of the others little by little, taking baby steps and pulling back whenever needed

Keating made sure he was comfortable and set up his ground rules with the others for playing with Todd

No teasing, roughhousing, or bullying of any kind was the gist of the rules

The others were very kind and gentle with Todd for the most part (Charlie had a couple mishaps)

Todd still stuck mostly to Neil, but Keating soon become one of the few others he would cling to if he needed reassurance or comfort

He very much acts like a little koala, and Keating is usually fine getting clung to unless he needs to chase down one of the other boys

Keating still tries to get Todd out of his comfort zone, but in a much gentler, slower way.

Charlie

Firstly

Keating and Charlie definitely have a more rough relationship at first

Charlie doesn't have much issue with regressing in front of Keating, but when Charlie's regressed?

He's the brattiest little of all the boys.

Keating knows how to handle it, but he gets a little burnt out after multiple days of Charlie's antics and has to remind himself not to snap

If he does snap, he's always sure to tell Charlie that no, he doesn't hate him, he just needs a calm moment to breathe

Charlie knows to leave him alone then, if only for a moment

The two go back and forth with play arguments quite often

Keating also helps Charlie get his energy out by playing lots of soccer, or even sometimes just chasing him around the room until one of them is too tired to go on

The two get on each others nerves, but at the end of the day Keating just wants to make sure that he is safe and happy

Knox

Keating helps Knox out a lot when he can't understand what the others are talking about

He's very good at putting it into simpler terms for the boy and making sure he doesn't get too lost in the conversation

The two sit down together often to work through any homework he doesn't understand and help make it simpler for him (projecting? me? never!)

Keating is also has no problem going to Knox's other teachers and berating them for bullying him in class

Knox is one of the littles who definitely needs help falling asleep, so the others usually find him napping on Keating's lap while he work out difficult problems or works on grading

Meeks

Keating loves to help Meeks with little expirements when the boy is regressed

Does he understand the science? No, but Meeks does and it makes him happy, so what does that matter?

Keating also lets the Meeks and Pitts use the tv in his room to watch sci-fi programs and historical documentaries whenever he can

Pitts

I don't have much to say about Pittsy

However

I do think that he has a surprising sweet tooth that Keating is more than happy to indulge

He gets Pitts sweets anytime he goes into town

Both Keating and Pitts love red licorice, so they have their own stash set apart from the other snacks

Cameron

Cameron is... difficult

he doesn't regress around the others often

(mainly because he thinks that they really hate him)

but whenever he does, he stays very quiet and tries not to get in the way of their games too much, even though he really does want to play

He is the only one of the Poets that Keating pushes a bit harder to play with the others while regressed, because he knows that the others don't hate him

Keating hates seeing any of his boys feeling left out so, much like with Todd, he always makes sure Cameron has at least one person to play with at all times

He actually usually puts Todd and Cameron together to play because of how shy they both are

Because of this, the two become better friends, and end up sticking together like glue most of the time they are regressed.

Anytime Keating sees the two of them stuck together, he smiles a bit because of how proud he is of them coming out of their shells

neil talking about joining the play: “oh he’s going to get his ass beat. he’s going to die.”

(note: he had no idea neil was legitimately going to die, he just knew this was my favorite movie and ethan hawke was in it lol)

Dead Poets Society boys headcanons I thought of while showering: showering edition (sounds ironic)

Charlie: bro uses an IRRATIONAL amount of shampoo. Most probably has finished one entire bottle in a matter of 4 days before (shampoo prices must not be an issue for him, I guess). His hair somehow isn't damaged, and not even god knows why. Takes an hour for him to finish showering. He talks in the shower, and if it's in Hellton showers he will talk to someone else while showering (Knox and him get idiotically philosophical; call it shower thoughts that are actually spoken)

Cameron: this mf measures the amount of shampoo he uses. I never knew someone who did this, but I can DEFINITELY GUESS that Cameron has a measuring cup just for shampoo. His showers are short compared to the others, probably because he doesn't think about other things rather than to finish showering. Uses more hair products outside the shower (the youngsters would call it 'styling').

Meeks: he's a little more normal. But DEFINITELY has realizations while showering, it's just that he doesn't say them out loud. Suddenly his mind speaks to him about how to set up the DIY radio to work or something like that and he won't talk to anyone after the shower until he has it sorted out (will go RUNNING like he's running out of time to tell Pitts). Probably 25 minutes long showers because he also uses a product to keep his curls okay.

Knox: who told this dumbass that putting on perfume while the water is running and he's still showering is okay? Multiple people had told him that IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE, but he's like "no, guys, I swear it works... because the other day-", and he's mentioning an event that has nothing to do with putting on perfume in the shower. I can imagine one of his talks where he goes OVERLY philosophical and Charlie just tells him that he's 'talking stupid'. He takes (slightly) less than one hour just to not be called the one who takes the most time in the shower (a.k.a Charlie Dalton)

Neil: WHO put theater kid music in here? Social anxiety fears this dude. Not only he sings his favorite musicals, he also mumbles the dialogue for his next play. I'm certain that more than 7 people in Hellton have memorized at least one line from his dialogue just by listening to him (even if it's mumbling people can still hear him). Takes like 40 minutes for him to finish showering, and most of it is him trying to remember his parts in the play (sometimes Todd, who has them memorized after reading the script multiple times, tells him the next word and Neil yells it with excitement in an 'eureka' type of way). I think he would do a little skincare while showering, maybe just one product to clean his face and then wash it off.

Todd: always takes him 19 minutes straight to finish showering, some of the poets wonder if he has a watch to know when to come out (it has been proved scientifically that he does not take less or more than 19 minutes). Has a panic attack every time the soap slips. For some reason also uses conditioner... Who told him that he has to use it? I don't know (your hair isn't even that long, dude). Has the typical writer struggle of having an awesome idea but not having anything to write at the moment (has suffered the pain of forgetting what the idea was). Unlike the other poets, he does not do much after showering rather than brushing his hair and then dissociating (partially canon, I guess)

Pitts: he tried to get the shampoo out violently once, and it ended all over the place except his hand. He's more conscious about it now and it didn't happen ever again since then. He's a thinker, but not a philosophical one (like Charlie or Knox) or a genius one (like Meeks). His thoughts range from "did I turn off my desk lamp", to "TRIG HOMEWORK IS DUE TOMORROW AND I DIDN'T FINISH IT YET". Awfully specific but probably uses two brands of shampoo (I don't know where the idea came from but I can see it). Takes him a little bit more than 25 minutes to finish showering but does not usually reach 30 minutes long showers.

I don't know where all of these came out of.

the moment (when i first watched Dead Poets Society) i realized how utterly GAY these boys were was the scene where Neil encourages Todd to throw his birthday gift off the roof. The way he talks to Todd, The way he LOOKS at Todd, the way Neil immediately goes to make him feel better with humor and a new perspective instead of just apologizing out of feeling bad. i watched it, rewatched it, and then rewatched it again and immediately went “OH THEY ARE SO INCREDIBLY IN LOVE WITH EACH OTHER”

neil always hugs around the neck and then like rocks side to side a little bit

todd isn't a huge hug person but when he does it's one of those "bury your face in each others shoulders and sit there for a while taking in each others presence" type of hugs.

charlie only gives bear hugs. like squeeze you so hard you're afraid your ribs might break level of bear hug. he does not take hugs lightly. they are his profession

knox is a hug and spin type of person

pitts puts his head on top of mine when we hug and it's so ☹️😖😭

meeks always buries his head in my shoulder or gives me little forehead kisses when we hug :)))

i remember this was going around dps tumblr before id watched it, so now that im here i thought id do it!

headcanon where maany years after the '59 the poets who have remained in contact with each other (todd, charlie, knox, pitts and meeks) got together to go on a reunion at welton to "dust off" some memories, if you catch what I'm sayin.

all together they would go to see how the new boys are, they would enter their old classes, some kids definelly tried to talk to them and ask who they are or why they are there.

charlie would get carried away and would surely start talking about all the weird things they did in their school years, and knox would be absolutely ashamed of it.

todd could BY CASE find himself in front of their old room, would enter it to find the exact same room as he remembered, their beds, their wardrobes, always the same desks, with some frames that belong to the boys who are now staying there, and still the same radiator where neil used to sit and read. all as always except he was alone, and the names on the door were no longer theirs.

pitts and meeks would definitely go to the lab or the roof where they used to listen and dance to their illegal radio.

all together they would take a nice walk all over the field that encloses welton, they would go to the lake (todd cried here at some point I just know that) and to the cave, maybe they would even have a meeting, to forget about life for a while, just like the old times (they ofc remember the opening sentence).
