M. Todgers's Commercial Boarding House was a house of that sort which is likely to be dark at any time; but that morning it was especially dark. There was an odd smell in the passage, as if the concentrated essence of all the dinners that had been cooked in the kitchen since the house was built, lingered at the top of the kitchen stairs to that hour, and, like the Black Friar in Don Juan, 'wouldn't be driven away.'  In particular, there was a sensation of cabbage; as if all the greens that had ever been boiled there, were evergreens, and flourished in immortal strength. The parlour was wainscoted, and communicated to strangers a magnetic and instinctive consciousness of rats and mice. The staircase was very gloomy and very broad, with balustrades so thick and heavy that they would have served for a bridge. In a sombre corner on the first landing, stood a gruff old giant of a clock, with a preposterous coronet of three brass balls on his head; whom few had ever seen – none ever looked in the face – and who seemed to continue his heavy tick for no other reason than to warn heedless people from running into him accidentally. It had not been papered or painted, hadn't Todgers's, within the memory of man. It was very black, begrimed, and mouldy. And, at the top of the staircase, was an old, disjoined, rickety, ill-favoured skylight, patched and mended in all kinds of ways, which looked distrustfully down at everything that passed below, and covered Todgers's up as if it were a sort of human cucumber-frame, and only people of a peculiar growth were reared there.

Historic #Taos Inn | The original building dates back to the late 1800s. The Martin’s purchased the cluster of adobes in 1926. Dr. Martin opened his office, operating room, and delivery room where the Doc Martin restaurant is currently located.

Luke 2:7 (NLT) - She gave birth to her firstborn Son. She wrapped Him snugly in strips of cloth and laid Him in a manger, because there was no lodging available for them.

Name: Winter's Home
LOCATION: Oldtown
This beautiful two story Victorian home was fully renovated with the inside getting a modern update while keeping all of the charm. It sits in the middle of a quiet neighborhood, with a small gate that is always closed, wrapped around the property, a warning to most that people aren’t exactly welcome. It boasts three bedrooms, an office space, and a very large kitchen but the owner’s favorite part of the house is the widow’s peak as it overlooks most of the neighborhood and gives a nice glimpse of the ocean.
The owner’s silhouette can be seen through the widow’s peak windows at night when she’s enjoying the relaxing view while reading a good book. It’s there until the very early mornings often. Because of this, rumors have spread that the house is haunted, which is mostly true considering the ghost that never leaves the owner's side.
The widow's peak was the only part of the house that went untouched during the renovations. It kept its charm throughout the years and the owner was impressed by all of its original glory.
In the backyard, near the back edge of the property, there is a garden that will forever go untouched. The previous owner of the house was a spellcaster that grew a lot of the ingredients they used in their spells back there so if someone isn’t careful they could always come across a nasty little plant that's still clinging to life. This also lends to the rumors that something isn’t right about this house since there have been a number of neighborhood kids that used to cut through before the fence was built and have never been the same.
There are a number of signs around the place to make it feel unwelcome to most. No soliciting, keep off the grass, multiple signs for her alarm system to name a few. It’s clear that the owner doesn’t enjoy having unplanned visits from others. After a nasty incident with animal waste, cameras started to appear around the outside of the house as well. They ‘don’t work’ half the time though and the owner suspects that the company is erasing footage without her permission. It’s really interference from multiple supernatural forces and the ghosts that follow the owner around.

Campground, Cabins, And Lodges
Lodgings that commune in some way with nature are more popular than ever, post-pandemic. The 2023 North American Camping and Outdoor Hospitality Report found that a record 58 million American and Canadian households camped or “glamped” in 2022. That same year, the National Park Service saw more than 13 million overnight stays in its campgrounds, cabins, and lodges.
Travelers wanting to be close to the wild without giving up amenities isn't new, of course. Iconic lodges like the Ahwahnee in California’s Yosemite National Park and Crater Lake Lodge in Oregon “were constructed to give early 20th-century American travelers nicer places to stay when they visited the West,” says Max Humphrey, author of the new book Lodge: An Indoorsy Tour of America’s National Parks, which showcases the history and nostalgic interiors of National Park lodges. “People back then wanted access to the outdoors, but they still wanted comfort.”

Oculis Lodge,  Glacier, Washington's Cascade Mountains, United States,
Oculus means “eye” in Latin. And in architecture, it refers to a window or shape that has an opening of an oval or circular shape. For the Oculis Lodge, that means a striking 15-foot slylight at the top of every unit, which drenches the space in light during the day and offers prime stargazing at night.
The name also calls attention the eco-conscious structure of the dome-shaped cabins. Each build has a rock-solid airform structure that requires 50 percent less energy to heat and cool than conventional structures. Only recycled concrete, reclaimed wood and recycled materials were used to build the pods.

The Lodge.
Pen on paper
For over 1000 years a lodge has stood in this spot, providing rare refuge and comfort amongst the 15 million square kilometers of the Sejuk Forest. Though, for the vast majority of that time it wasn’t much more than a few-room-outpost with some beds, a kitchen, and most importantly heat.
Over the last few-hundred years proprietors began to take an interest in the site, building more substantial structures and offering accommodations that rivaled small towns that bordered the Sejuk. The largest change came in the last three decades. An ex-trapper who struck gold in the northern streams decided to invest in the outpost that had saved him countless times during his trapping career. He combined the existing structures and added substantially upon them, creating a vast and complex estate that dominated the immediate landscape.
While simple lodging and even cost-free options were still available, the majority of the building was now, essentially, a luxury resort that, for the first time, opened the opportunity for the non-adventurer to experience the Sejuk, albeit from the warmth of a premium suite.

NAME: Nichols' Funeral Home
LOCATION: Deersprings
For nearly forty years, the Nichols’ family has owned and operated one of the most respected funeral homes in Wicked's Rest. The family’s only daughter Erin inherited the business after Jack’s recent passing and serves as the primary Funeral Director. It’s conveniently located across from Mistwood Park and just a short drive from the Wicked's Rest Morgue and Wicked's Rest Hospital.
The funeral home runs out of a renovated mini-mansion bought by Jack Nichols, including a nondenominational memorial room. The basement, where most of the preparation work is done, is entirely off-limits to guests and a good portion of the staff.
The top floor has been adapted into a living space for the Nichols’ family, including a full kitchen and two bedrooms. Erin Nichols, and her mother, Diane, currently occupy the living quarters.
One of the first funeral homes in the area to actively offer and encourage environmentally friendly “green” burials, though they offer a range of services, including cremation and are accommodating to most funerary requests depending on legality.
