FT x TWST Housewardens

Ever since I realized (halfway through my other batch of drawings) that Housewardens specifically get to design their own uniforms, I've been wanting to a new batch with them because I get to partially customize the uniforms based on what I think the character would do and I think that's neat.

Also featuring little blurbs of story content stuff because this AU is starting to live in my brain. (Help there's so much in there but it's so fun.)

Chapter Eleven: What's the Point?

Lucy walked along the river of Blume Town, making her way to the town's magic shop alone. It had taken a week for her, Freed, and Rufus to arrive at the town due to the large distance and their train breaking down along the way. It was Freed who found out there were a few keys in the magic shop. 

Lucy knew that Freed and Rufus would want to accompany her, but she managed to sneak out while the two men were asleep. It wasn't that she didn't like their company, but more so because she wanted to be alone. The blonde woman looked to the river beside her, catching sight of several fish that swam along with the quick water. 

The sight caused her to think of Natsu and Happy, their love of fish popping into her mind. She had once been comforted by the presence of objects or creatures that reminded her of her closest friends, always bringing a smile to her face as she entertained many pleasant memories. 

However, this time, she didn't smile. She didn't remember any pleasant memories. Instead, she thought only of the times that she fooled her friends, her closest friends, into believing that she was happy. It made her feel bad, guilty even. All the times she had helped her friends through their own problems and lows. She had no problem with being there for them, but she was unable to let them be there for her. She knew that if she asked for help and explained what had happened, then they would do all they could to help her. And yet, she couldn't do that. 

Maybe it was because she deserved to feel like this. She had broken Aquarius' key! She destroyed one of the only things she had left of her mother! What would her mother say? Aquarius was an important friend to her mother, and yet, she destroyed the celestial spirit's key! But, she did it to save her friends, and Aquarius had urged her to do it. So, why was she feeling terrible about it? Why was she being hard on herself for it? 

Lucy rubbed her bandaged fingers against the scars on her wrists. She was almost itching to create more. She furrowed her brow at this. How could she let herself get to this point? She pulled her sleeves over her hands and balled the ends in her fingers. She had to have Virgo get an entirely new wardrobe for her, clothes that would cover her scarred skin. She was dressed in black jeans and a blue turtleneck. 

As she neared the magic shop, her mind wandered to the source of these additional scars. She mentally scoffed at herself. She had thought that she was finally getting stronger, but turns out she was wrong. She hadn't been able to fight the mages that had captured them. No matter how hard she tried, she was always overpowered. She wasn't even able to stop Nyx from taking her keys when he forced her to open her inventory to him after her back had been whipped. 

She mentally cursed at herself. She shouldn't have lived. Yukino, Hisui, and even Sorano were more deserving of living than she was. The inhabitants of the Celestial Spirit World would be better off with a more competent wizard. Why did she agree to take on this mission? She couldn't do this!

Lucy was suddenly bumped into by a man who walked past her, causing her to stumble and fall to her hands and knees, a sharp pain shooting through her knees. She pushed off of her hands and sat on her knees before looking back to see an old man glaring back at her. The man sneered, "watch where you're going, girl!" 

Lucy looked down at the ground, muttering, "sorry." She then got back to her feet before she rushed off to the magic shop, trying to keep her mind on the keys that she had to collect and not on more troubling thoughts. 

Lucy looked over the shelves of the magic items that were in the large magic shop. She had been searching for Celestial Spirit Gate Keys for several minutes. After much searching, she finally found three silver keys that rested upon a long, small pillow. The corner of her mouth twitched up at the sight of the keys. She picked them up and looked over them. Just as she was about to take them to the shopkeeper, she was stopped by a familiar voice, "I didn't expect you to be here." 

She froze, her eyes blown wide. She didn't dare to turn around, knowing exactly who was standing behind her. Her body began to tremble and her stomach dropped by miles as her heartbeat became almost erratic. Panic flooded her being and tears pricked the corners of her brown eyes. 

She shakily breathed, "w-what are you doing here?"

Nyx responded with a calm, but low tone, "same reason you are, for those keys." 

Lucy's throat tightened, shortening her breathing. A sudden cold feeling rested upon her body. Why was she cold? The first thing she noticed upon stepping into the magic shop was how warm it was. She uttered, "I'm not giving them to you." Her mind wandered to the possibility of needing to fight him. Could she do that? She wasn't sure. She didn't know what keys he had, or what types of magic he could use in addition to Celestial Spirit Magic and, assumedly, Requip Magic. She wasn't at all confident in her ability to fight him if he decided to take the keys that she held in her hands from her by force. 

The man behind her responded, "I'm not taking them." 

What? Didn't he say that he was there for the keys? Wasn't it his goal to collect all of the Celestial Spirit Gate Keys and take over the Celestial Spirit World? He had the chance to collect all of the Zodiac keys plus some. Wasn't he going to take that chance? 

Nyx continued, "go ahead. Take them. I'm not going to fight you." 

Lucy willed her body to move. She mentally screamed at her body to run past him, purchase the keys, and get back to Freed and Rufus, but her body didn't move. Perhaps it was fear. Maybe it was curiosity. It could even be both. But, she wasn't able to move. Her legs were shaking, making her feel like she was going to collapse. She mumbled, "why?"

The only answer she got was, "what's the point?"

She listened to his retreating footsteps until they faded to point that she couldn't hear them. After what felt like hours, she ran to the shopkeeper, who was standing behind the counter. She quickly paid with the slip of paper that Makarov had given her and raced out of the magic shop.

Memories of the torture that Nyx had put her through flashed in her mind. Her fingernails getting pulled from the beds, getting waterboarded, and her back and the bottoms of her feet getting whipped. Tears streamed down her cheeks as she ran, not even weaving between the people she passed. Her mind had divulged into a blur. She just wanted to get as far from that man as she could. 

Lucy was soon stopped when she ran into a man's arms. Not bothering to look at who was holding her tightly, she buried her face into his chest, balling her fists into his shirt and biting her lip in an attempt to stifle her crying. She sank to her knees, the man holding her sinking to the ground with her. 

She heard the man holding her ask gently, "Lucy, what happened?" 

She wasn't able to respond, choking out a failed attempt to speak. A hand grabbed her arm, pulling her out of the man's arms. The man that grabbed her questioned more forcibly, "what happened?" 

Lucy cringed away as the tears continued. After a few choked sobs, she managed to answer, "N-Nyx." 

The other man scolded, "let go of her!" He then slapped the man's hand and pulled Lucy back into his chest. He then commanded, "go look for him! I'll stay with Lucy!" 

Lucy then felt herself get hoisted into the man's arms bridal style. She kept her face buried into his chest, sniffling as her body trembled, her heart pounded, and her breathing became quick and shallow.

Three keys lay on the bed in front of Lucy. She stared down at them with unblinking eyes. She was alone since Freed was showering. She furrowed her brow as she gritted her teeth. She couldn't believe herself. Not attacking Nyx while she had the chance and allowing Freed and Rufus to see her in such a weak state. She had determined to not let anybody see her like that. She didn't want anybody to worry about her, but now, her friends were going to inevitably start worrying about her and ask about her condition. She didn't want that. 

A flash of golden light and the strong ringing of a large bell signaled the arrival of one of her celestial spirits. She didn't need to look to know who it was. 

"Princess..."

Loke.

The well-dressed man rested a gentle hand on her shoulder, only to pull it away when she flinched away. He murmured, "you can't keep doing this. Maybe it's a good thing that they find out. Freed and Rufus are smart and cool. Surely they'll be able to help." 

Lucy didn’t answer. Instead, she pulled both of her legs onto the bed and curled them underneath her. She heard Loke sigh before he continued, "you need help, Princess." 

Still, no response. 

"At least contract your new spirits. They're anxious to meet you." 

Lucy obeyed, standing up with a silver key in her hand. She looked at the key as she turned it around in her hands. Its bow was circular with a bear's head in the middle while the blade was shaped like the bowl of a ladle. 

Lucy pointed the blade away from her and spoke, not as strong as usual, "I connect to the World of Celestial Spirits! Heed my call and pass through the gate! Open! Gate of the Big Bear: Alioth!"

Almost immediately, the summoned spirit appeared in front of Lucy. The blonde woman looked at his appearance, feeling a bit intimidated. The spirit was a tall, muscular man, perhaps six foot, four inches. His skin was an olive tone with a long scar across his chest and a few others on his left arm. He was shirtless and dressed in brown bear-skin pants and no shoes. On his fingers were metal finger covers that resembled a bear's claws. His piercing eyes were narrow and black. His black hair was long, reaching the middle of his back. 

Lucy spoke, "hello, Alioth, I'm Lucy. I was wondering if you'd like to make a contract with me?"

Alioth answered with a deep, rumbling voice, "yes."

Lucy nodded, continuing, "what days are you free?" 

"Any day."

"What can you do?"

"Earth Magic."

Lucy nodded again. She managed a smile as she added, "welcome to my family. I'm glad to be working with you." 

The spirit merely nodded before he disappeared with a flash of silver light. Loke remarked, "he likes you." Lucy turned around to look at him when she heard that, raising an eyebrow at him. The Zodiac clarified, "he and I have had the same wizard several times. If he doesn't like one, then he'll refuse to make a contract. If the wizard tries to force him, then he'll attack them."

Lucy questioned, "how does he know if he likes a wizard or not?"

Loke shrugged before he handed her another key. Lucy took it and looked down at it. The bow was of a woman's featureless profile and the blade was shaped like a comb. She pointed it outward, summoning, "I connect to the World of Celestial Spirits! Heed my call and pass through the gate! Open! Gate of the Berenice's Hair Constellation: Coma Berenices!" 

A silver light shinned and when it faded, a dark-skinned woman stood in front of Lucy. She was dressed in a red, strapless, mermaid dress. Her black hair was tied onto a thick braid that was ankle-length, a golden ribbon wrapped around the braid, holding it together. She was beautiful, her eyes a forest green color and thick, black lashes that made her eye color stand out. Clear lipgloss was painted across her lips. From the bed, Lucy heard Loke whistle. She made a mental note to smack him.

Lucy mustered a smile as she greeted, "hello, Coma Berenices, I'm Lucy. I was wondering if you'd like to make a contract with me?" 

The celestial spirit smiled at her, giving a small curtsey as she answered, "I would be honored, Princess." 

Lucy gave a silent sigh. Why did some of her spirits insist on giving her titles such as 'Princess' and 'My Lady'? She brushed this away, telling herself, at least none of them are calling me 'Mistress'. She continued, "what days are you free?" 

The spirit answered, "any day except for Sundays." 

Lucy nodded, committing the information to her memory. She then asked another question, "what can you do?" 

"I use Hair Magic. I can control my hair in fights and absorb a variety of liquids." 

Lucy nodded some more. She opened her mouth to speak again, but was cut off by her new spirit, "I cannot thank you enough for what you're doing, Princess. We are forever grateful and in your debt." 

Lucy shook her head before she stepped toward Coma Berenices and pulled her into a hug. She responded in a hushed voice, "you don't need to thank me. I'm just doing what is right." The celestial spirit returned her hug before they pulled away. Lucy murmured, "welcome to my family. I look forward to working with you." Coma Berenices then flashed away. 

Lucy turned around to face Loke, walked toward him, and hit him upside the head. The lion spirit chuckled as he rubbed the back of his head. He then picked up the final key and handed it to her. The celestial wizard took it and turned back around, looking down at the silver key. The bow was star-shaped with a smaller star inside of it. The blade was shaped like a telescope. 

Lucy pointed the key and called, "I connect to the World of Celestial Spirits! Heed my call and pass through the gate! Open! Gate of the Telescope Constellation: Telescopium!" 

In an instant, a young boy who looked to be about ten appeared in front of Lucy, sitting on a floating, blue and white carpet. In his hand was a small telescope. He was dressed in a white t-shirt that was under a pair of blue overalls. His skin was pale while his hair was short, messy, and brown. His eyes were a clear, baby-blue color. 

The boy smiled at her, exclaiming, "Lucy Heartfilia! The Lucy Heartfilia! My key has been found by Lucy Heartfilia!" As he cheered, he flew around the blonde woman. 

Lucy heard Loke chuckle and mutter, "how cute." 

She had to admit, it was cute. She waited for the boy to settle back to where he had been previously, floating in front of her. She then spoke, "hello, Telescopium, I'm Lucy. I was wondering if you'd like to make a contract with me?" 

The boy beamed, "yes! Yes! I do!"

Lucy gave a small smile. He was adorable. You'd have to be either blind or heartless to not admit that. She asked, "what days are you free?" 

Telescopium answered, "any day! Any day at all!" 

"What can you do?"

"I can track anything or anyone with my telescope and carpet. Just tell me what or who you're looking for and I'll be able to find it or them!" He then added in a calmer tone, "but, only if we're in the same area as whatever or whoever you want me to find." 

Lucy nodded. This spirit would be very useful. She then stepped forward to ruffle his hair, something that he enjoyed, before she ended their meeting, "welcome to my family. I'm happy to be working with you." 

The boy grinned up at her before he disappeared. Lucy then heard Loke comment, "he's one of the most liked spirits in the Celestial Spirit World." 

Lucy turned around, requiping her new keys to join her other ones. She then responded, "I can see why." 

She watched Loke stand up. He gave her a smile as he said, "well, I guess I should be going. It's my job to welcome the new spirits into our ranks." His smile then fell as he added in a serious tone, "please talk to them, Lucy." He then disappeared before she could answer. 

Lucy stared at where her close friend had been standing. She didn't have much time to think about his parting words because her attention was dragged to the bathroom door. It opened and out walked Freed, his hair still wet, but not dripping, and dressed in a simple shirt and pants. Lucy gulped, knowing what was coming based on the serious look on his face.
