As much as it’s an absolute bop, I think the song “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” in the movie Encanto carries a symbolic choice in its wording that goes beyond its catchiness.

Even before you learn the full situation of Bruno’s absence from the family, you get half the picture thru the song: Bruno’s power of clairvoyance was Inconvenient To The Family And Village, But Especially To Abuela Alma and so...he had to go.

It’s interesting that the song isn’t titled, say, “Where Is Bruno?” or “Don’t Come Back, Bruno” or even just “We Don’t Know Where Bruno Is”.

No, the song title is an assertion that the subject of Bruno is one we simply do not broach.

A huge, huge theme in Encanto is generational trauma. And one of the perpetual curses of generational trauma is We Don’t Talk About X. Sometimes X is something that hurts us (i.e, Bruno’s visions and other seemingly odd behaviors) and/or X is something that we did to hurt someone else (i.e, the family and village’s continual rejection and depreciation of Bruno to the point where he left and never came back).

Thus we get “We Don’t Talk About Bruno”.

The overall policy of not talking about...what needs to be talked about is often how generational trauma is not only created to begin with, but also how it is allowed to continue through new generation after generation with very little end in sight.

Not talking about things is often thought of as a way to not only avoid The Problem(s), but to deny there are The Problem(s). It’s almost a childish way of thinking that if we don’t acknowledge it then it doesn’t/can’t/won’t hurt and will somehow magically (haha) go away and stay away. And of course that never works; The Problem(s) must be dealt with or else The Problem(s) will deal with you.

And I’m not preaching from the pulpit about this-I’ve never even been to Colombia but like a lot of people I relate so much to Encanto because my family suffers from generational trauma too. Starting from my own mother (and her devil of a mother before her), there have been many things that are swept under the rug and quite a few have exploded until they needed to be dealt with...and sometimes it’s been too long that an apology/gradual change in behavior wasn’t fully enough to mend the “cracks” in our own casita, y’know?

The Problem doesn’t go away-it just festers and festers until it deals with you.

And The Problem not going away is amazingly symbolized in the song “We Don’t Talk About Bruno”. We see that, actually...Bruno truly hasn’t gone away. During Dolores’ dope ass verse, you can see his greenish shadow in the background on the balcony, not unlike as though he were a specter; in Camilo’s equally dope ass verse, Camilo still remembers enough about what his uncle looks like to transform into him (minus the exaggerated “7 foot frame”-he seems hardly taller than Mirabel herself); both Isabela and Dolores still remember positive prophecies from him, one about growth in power and one about future true love; so many of the villagers still remember much less positive prophecies from him; and his room is still present in the house, never mind that it’s off limits.

Not Talking About Bruno does not at all mean Bruno has gone away.

Even greater than what Bruno’s continued presence means, there’s also what his continued implicit absence means. Alongside her siblings and cousins, Mirabel has been deprived of having such a selfless, loving uncle in her life who, in leaving, did what he thought best to put her before himself even while knowing she’d never be aware of his sacrifice; Julieta and Pepa have been deprived of their only brother; and Abuela Alma has been deprived of her only son. That continued absence is yet another Problem.

Also not talking about Bruno is really not unlike how the family deals with Mirabel, whose continued visible presence with her ordinary lack of magical powers they cannot escape/erase. That is, the songwriters could easily write a song titled, “We Don’t Talk To Mirabel”.

From what I see, Abuela Alma certainly goes out of her way to not talk to Mirabel unless it’s within 1 of 3 contexts:

Why are you in my direct line of sight and, whatever reason you (quickly) give, wrap it up so that you’re properly out of my sight.

What are you doing and, whatever you (quickly) tell me you are doing, wrap it up so you’re not reminding me that you’re The Problem.

Please remember the best thing you can do for the family and specifically me is to Be Seen, Not Heard.

I and a whole lot of audience of course see this as insidiously but extremely cruel from Abuela Alma to her own flesh-and-blood granddaughter. In its insidiousness, in the narrative we also Don’t Talk About The Effects This Has On Mirabel, i.e, her terribly low self-esteem and high frustration/resentment; her trauma at the constant exclusion and depreciation; and her powerful, pressurizing need to prove herself worthy. To prove herself even present.

Now I will say that...I don’t feel like a whole lot of the family follows Abuela’s example on how to treat Mirabel. Certainly her parents protect and nurture their daughter as much as they can against their matriarch’s mistreatment of her. Her 3 cousins are certainly loving enough to her in my opinion, particularly Antonio (and I want to write a whole post on his representation sometime, too!), and you get the sense that if Luisa had more time she’d dote on and nurture her baby sister much, much more.

Isabela is the only one who seems to be the worst offender.For example, after it’s announced in the song that Mariano, Isabela’s betrothed, and his mother are on his way, Isabela sings an interesting line to Mirabel:

“Hey, sis, I want not a sound out of you”

...Which is pretty in line with Abuela Alma’s standard cruel treatment and policy with Mirabel: Be Seen, Not Heard And You Won’t Be The Problem.

(And on a side note, I’m 1000% of the mind that Mariano would be an excellent big brother-in-law and be so loving and nurturing to Mirabel. I don’t think he would’ve found her comparative ordinariness an issue at all.)

(Another, another side note: I’m also of the mind that Isabela’s initial copying of Abuela Alma’s treatment of Mirabel is a kind of rebound envy and resentment because while Mirabel can’t grab just some spotlight no matter how hard she tries, Isabela can’t ever get out of all the spotlight no matter how hard she tries. I think it’s inverse brands of spotlight pressures going in different directions with the resentments...well, going in the wrong directions.)

Going back to Bruno and the song title “We Don’t Talk About Bruno”, that curse of generational trauma doesn’t start to break itself until, well...we talk about Bruno. And there’s a short, but explicit line Camilo and Antonio in the song “All of You” that states as much:

“Okay, so we’re gonna talk about Bruno? (That’s Bruno)

Yeah, there’s a lot to say about Bruno

For sure there’s a lot of things to say about Bruno-and I love, love, love that Bruno is able to (re)claim in his agency in the narrative by being able to explain himself in his own verse right after the above one.

Not only are we going to talk about Bruno, but Bruno gets to be the one to talk.

My #1 post of 2022

See, every time late May comes around...

I know at worst it’s corporate predation and at best it’s corporate cynical performance of allyship/activism to snag the queer dollar, but...

Come every late May when I see the rainbow colors of Pride come out over stores’ banners online and stores’ displays right inside their front windows where everyone can see and stores’ displays inside the store where it’s easily seen and accessible by everyone, instead of shamefully tucked into a back corner...

When I see that, there’s a happy whisper in my mind.

It’s still a whispered secret for me that I am bisexual-in real life, I have still not come out to anyone. I am content with that for now. I don’t see that contentment changing any time in the near future. But I was 25 when I quietly, definitively said to myself that I am bisexual. I was 28 when I came out only online, first to a slew of fellow, older LGBT friends that I implicitly trusted and then later on openly on my blog as a Christmas present to myself.

I carry a quiet love and pride of my bisexuality. And so when I see the Pride colors, that happy whisper in my mind goes, “That’s you, kid. Those colors mean you. You’re a colorful person and those colors belong to you, too.”

“You made it another year, kid. Happy birthday to learning yet another beautiful part of you.”

Further feeling like my initial thoughts about fandom culture and especially the pro/anti debate were not unfounded.

Haven't even gotten to the uncensored manuscript and I'm already seeing parallels.

This is one of the critical responses quoted in the forward to the published version of the book:

Why go grabbing in muck-heaps? The world is fair, and the proportion of healthy-minded men and women to those that are foul, fallen, or unnatural is great. Mr. Oscar Wilde has again been writing stuff that were better unwritten; and while The Picture of Dorian Gray, which he contributes to Lippincott's, is ingenious, interesting, full of cleverness, plainly the work of a man of letters, it is false art--for its interest is medico-legal; it is false to human nature--for its hero is a devil; it is false to morality--for it is not made sufficiently clear that the writer does not prefer a course of unnatural iniquity to a life of cleanliness, health, and sanity. The story--which deals with matters only fitted for the Criminal Investigation Department or a hearing in camera [out of public scrutiny]--is discreditable alike to author and editor. Mr. Wilde has brains, and art, and style; but if he can write for none but outlawed noblemen and perverted telegraph boys, the sooner he takes to tailoring (or some other decent trade) the better for his own reputation and the public morals.

Why do people, then and now, lack so much nuance?

Dorian Gray starts out relatable. But Wilde ensures that by the end he has done worse than what most readers would imagine themselves capable. Even if we were to live in a society in which it was ok to simply do whatever we wanted with no consequences, most of us would not want to kill, or to cheat, or to lie, or drive another to suicide with our words, or descend into the kind of self-destructive paranoia that consumes Dorian Gray.

Can we not read this book like a tragedy? Why must we assume the protagonist is a hero? Why is it we expect morality to be spoonfed to us in literature? Why must a book contain a moral lesson at all? Why can't a book exist for the artistry? The way it makes you think? The way it makes you reexamine yourself and your place in the world?

I'm sad we haven't changed in hundreds of years. But, I suppose, I'm not surprised.

There was static on the other line, as the caller hesitated to speak. Kaiba thumbed towards the end call button, but stopped when a familiar voice greeted him.

"Mr. Kaiba, this is Sugoroku Muto.” Seto blinked. “Atem, the uh Pharaoh, knocked on my door today with your number in his…” Sugoroku hesitated for a second before settling on “pocket.”

“May I speak to him?” Seto interrupted. He’d been able to communicate then. Maybe he could continue to do so now.

“Sure,” Sugoroku said. There was a shuffling sound as the phone was passed to Atem.

“Hello.” Atem’s voice sounded in Kaiba’s ear, and Kaiba confirmed that whatever language Atem spoke, he could understand him. Other than that, his thoughts had gone blank, and his chest clenched in anticipation.

“Hello,” he replied dumbly in Ancient Egyptian. “How are you doing?”

So I'm rewatching One Piece with my friend. We are watching the fumimation dub because of accessibility reasons, which is a new experience for me because my initial watch through was the sub (is? Obviously it's ongoing)

Anyway we just finished Arlong Park and I'm having thoughts about many things, but especially Sanji and also zosan as a ship.

I forgot how much of an actual dipshit Sanji is verbally to Zeff and the cooks and everyone. It's sort of easy to gloss over in the subs, but the swearing in the dub is way more jarring. But Sanji undoubtedly cares about them still. Immensely.

I remember making an offhand comment when Sanji gets so distracted worried about Zoro's wounds from Mihawk that he takes a hard punch in his fight against the guy he's facing (I forget his name, forgive me): something like "remember when Sanji cared about Zoro?"

[To be fair, Sanji takes big risks for everyone but Usopp during that fight, so it's not just Zoro, and I don't think his actions are intended to be read shippy (Usopp is elsewhere, so he has no reason to help him.) I think this is meant to further establish Sanji's kindness and specific morality, which is narratively both his strength and his weakness, just like Zoro getting lost or Nami with money.]

But then later Sanji is biting at Zoro, and maybe it's the English helping me out, because I know calls Zoro a shitty swordsman in both, but it seems WAY more endearing, way more like how Sanji is with Zeff than being openly hostile as I had initially interpreted it?

I guess I just find it interesting, an aspect of the ship I hadn't thought about before? Like zosan always felt like one of those ships I like because of the fandom. There is a lot of good content for it, but a lot of it feels truly transformative, breathing a different life into the characters than I see on the screen. That's not bad! I honestly like fandom Sanji better than canon Sanji most days, and zosan is part of that.

I'm super curious about what the translation will be like when we get to Sanji's experience during the timeskip. Maybe it's me projecting or reading in too far or wishful thinking because I want Sanji to not be Like That.

Anyway makes me want to write and explore Sanji's character (again). But like, don't expect anything I'm busy af 😂

Who the fuck bandaged Zoro like that? Why is he with Sanji?

Law fucking had him. They disappeared and now Zoro is bandaged like a fucking cross and Sanji has him.

Did Law treat him like that and then give him to Sanji? Or did he just dump him on Sanji and call it a fucking day and Sanji did...whatever?

One thing we do know...Law ships zosan.

My #1 post of 2022

So I have gotten to a part in The Picture of Dorian Gray where the neighborhood Picadilly is mentioned. I am also doing Dracula Daily, and so the fact that there is a foot note regarding Picadilly is interesting to me. Because well...*motions at the burglary at the Picadilly House*

Apparently, this is a preeminent street, filled with fashion and high members of society, which all tracks with the difficulties the Dracula guys face entering it and sealing away the soil in the boxes.

....but also, Picadilly is apparently famous for male prostitutes.

Dracula would have been much different if this knowledge were available to our protags, I think.

Hi! I'm Gregg (he/him, 21+) and furry-related stuff has been one of my longest-lived special interests. I've spent a lot of time in my life digging for furry media and decided I thought it'd be fun to document and potentially share my findings (you know, years down the line). So here's that!

Whether or not it's actually daily, I promise nothing, as I do have mental stuff going on that makes me forgetful or saps my energy.

I also want to make it clear that this isn't really a recommendation system, as some (probably many) of these things I'll never have watched or played etc. myself. Moreso it's just an archival of sorts.

That also means that a lot of information is just gonna be obtained from like... Wikipedia and store pages for the games. Again, it's just an archival, not really meant to provide new, in-depth information about things or anything like that. But poke around, see if anything interests you maybe!

That said, some rules I'll abide by:

The media must PROMINENTLY feature one anthropomorphic character. Not a human with animal ears, but a whole animal-person.

Hopefully nothing will be posted that glorifies any kind of unwarranted bias or abuse. That said, dark and adult themes may be present in some of the things I post.

Most kinds of media - games, shows, movies, etc. - will be presented. This may eventually include furry musician spotlights, too. HOWEVER, I don't plan on showcasing specific artists and the like otherwise. Sorry!

Feel free to send asks, and especially submissions! I try to tag everything, though, so if you do submit something, be sure to check and see if I've already posted something about it!

Jesper Fahey, a powerful Grisha?

In the Shadow and Bone TV series and the famous Six of Crows duology, the Dreg's Jesper Fahey is a prized sharpshooter. Initially Kaz's left hand man, Jesper's a fan-favourite of the Dreg's team; whether you discovered him through the original Fjerda heist or through the Crow's attempts to steal the Sun Summoner. We fall for him for his trick-shots, quick humour and perchance for trouble.

But a little know fact about Jesper for TV show watchers is that he's actually a Fabrikator Durast Grisha (or Zowa as he refers to himself). The book forces Jesper to reveal his use of small science to the rest of the gang and hypothesises it to be the reason for his impeccable aim and curved bullets. However, throughout the book it's heavily implied that he's powers are quite weak for a Grisha, with him failing to perform simple tasks that we watch the other Grisha's of his order do with ease in the original Shadow and Bone trilogy.

I'm here to prove that hypothesis wrong :DDD

Okay, so the most important thing to remember about Grisha magic is introduced by General Kirigan from the SaB series. In order for a Grisha to use the small science, there are two general rules:

They must use some kind of hand gesture to coordinate the attack

They must be able to see the actual object that they are manipulating.

Throughout the SoC and CK books, we watch Jesper (and his mother) defy both rules. The most popular example is his curving of bullets; while some might argue his actual hand gesture of pulling the trigger is a hand gesture might be the equivalent of rule 1, this is only releasing the bullet into the air and the actual curving of the bullet happens AFTER this moment. However, for argument's sake, lets say that Jesper somehow manages to curve the bullet BEFORE it actually leaves the gun...this means that he's manipulating an object that he can't see yet, meaning that he's defying rule 2.

Furthermore, it is greatly implied that Jesper's talent parallels the power of his mother, Aditi Hilli (who some might remember through Leoni's story from a different series). Aditi Hilli's unfortunate death in Jesper's childhood is revealed through an introceptive chapter from Jesper's perspective at some point in the SoC novels as well; she dies extracting sickness from the body of a young girl.

This is a clear example of Grisha small science that defies the second rule created in the original trilogy. Aditi uses powers that she can neither see (Rule 2) or visualise but can transport this substance from one 'vessel' to another.

Assuming that Jesper possesses the same talent, this kind of power is unheard of from the lowest class of Grisha and quite impressive for the highest class of Healers as well.

Some other smaller points to make about Jesper's talent also relate to the narration of the novel. Most of Jesper's powers are revealed through his own perspective and we know quite clearly he is an unreliable narrator, especially relating to himself. Despite having a cheerful, bubbly exterior, Jesper's insecurities around his gambling addiction actually lead to him having quite a low self-esteem. He might actually be a much more powerful Grisha but as we see him work through his own mind, we don't see the real picture of what he can do.

Furthermore, similar to Alina at the beginning of the SaB trilogy, Jesper suffers from hiding his powers (in particular from his father) which is known to weaken Grisha small science. If he potentially stops weakening his own power, it is quite likely that he will be much more powerful (recall how Alina was unable to even summon by herself at first while Jesper can already curve bullets).

In conclusion, Jesper's Grisha powers are disproportionally represented in the SoC books. We are revealed to the extent of Grisha power repetitively through the series; from Nina's heart-render abilities to the tailoring of Wylan's appearance in CK. Could it be that Jesper is actually as powerful or perhaps even more so than these incredible Grisha? Would it make him a different character/ change the dynamic of the group?

There's at least another season of the SaB trilogy and another (potential) book coming out for the SoC series. I'm quite excited to see how it will all play out :)

Rhyming Poems: A Guide

Hi again everyone :))) Thanks for the amazing response on my previous post (Constructive Criticism: A Guide)....I'm still shook by how much it took off! Anyways, here's the latest edition of my writing advice column, all on the infamous rhyming poems <333 So sit back, grab a cuppa and let's delve into this notoriously tricky writing form.

Rhyming poems. We've all written them, generally in early primary school when we first read Dr Seuss. They seem like the most basic form of poetry; a clear structure and form that is easy to adapt! And throughout history, rhyme has left its mark on almost all of the iconic poetic works; whether it be the infamous Shakespearean Sonnet, the more modernist verse narratives or even simple nursery rhymes.

So despite rhyming poems being the first poems that almost all of us encounter, why are they so tricky to write??? Here are the main reasons (I've listed them here so when we talk about conquering the rhyming poem we can overcome these hurdles):

Rhyme limits the choice of words. Poetry as an art-form is EXTREMELY dependent on word choice, especially because so few are generally used (unless you are writing an epic). With rhyme, we can no longer have the freedom to choose what words fit....this makes it difficult to communicate a very specific and tailored message

Rhyme greatly influences the meter of a poem. While not all rhyming poems have to be as fixed of a form as sonnets (think iambic pentameter), there is definitely restriction of syllables, line length and verses in rhyming poems. This becomes even greater of a problem when rhyme schemes are introduced (think ABAB structures).

Rhyming is hard. This is perhaps the most obvious but greatest factor that deters poets from rhyme. It is hard! It's hard to rhyme and not sound like you are writing a clapping game. It's hard to rhyme and have a solid structure when you're delving into the fluid metaphysical. It's hard to create something stunning when you are so restricted!!

So with all these factors in mind, here are a few tips I've put together to make this writing form easier. Keep in mind, rhyme, like any other poetic device, is most effective when used in moderation! Be careful with how much you add! It's like sugar in a tea; some types taste good with entire spoonfuls while others require just a dash.

My biggest tip for rhyming poems is try not to close yourself in too early. Unless you have specific word pairs in mind, always try and end your lines (which are in the rhyme scheme) with easy-to-rhyme words. For example, instead of using "morning" , you might use "day". Of course this may seem like you are replacing sophisticated words for simpler ones but often these words are the ones that carry the most meaning and make your work accessible! You can also try for some nice metaphors to fit into these scheme.

Try and find rhyming pairs! Often when writing rhyme, it's hard to find suitable words that fit your message. Find words that rhyme and have a similar kind of 'vibe' BEFORE writing your verse to avoid this problem. For example, a key conceit in my upcoming sonnet is situated around the words "ebb" and "web".

Don't be afraid of half-rhyme! This is such a good way to get out of the 'clap game' trap that rhyming poems seem to fall into; it almost seems to break out of that strict form and allows you a bit of space to play. You can use half-rhyme if you have a key change in your poem or simply scatter it around to keep it fluid and moving. For example, Seamus Heaney (if you've read my other work, you'd know I'm obsessed with his stuff!) often uses half-rhyme in his Glanmore Sonnets as a subversion of the traditional Irish Sonnet. Half-rhyme also puts a modernist touch to the more traditional poetic forms :)

Finally, use all the tools at your disposal! I've seen so many 'professional' poets saying "Don't use free online rhyme programs" but imo that's just rubbish. EVERY POET USES EVERY TOOL AT THEIR DISPOSAL! I can say that from my own personal experience; I've published poems in some nice poetry magazines and I always use those dumb rhyme-zone tools to find the right words! They even have modes to find the "percentage" of rhyme so you can effectively utilise half-rhymes in your work as well. Don't discount these tools and don't feel like any less of a poet if you use them. THEY ARE DESIGNED FOR YOU; USE THEM!

So with that, I'll wrap up my rhyming poem guide. If I come up with any other tools, I'll add them and if you have any tricks, feel free to reblog and add as well :)) Rhyming poetry is hard and even if it doesn't work out quite as nicely as you intended, don't feel disheartened! It can take years of practise to master this form! The Secret History by Donna Tartt is just so stunning! I've almost finished the book (just a chapter to go that I'm holding on to for so long because I don't want it to end) and I'm blown away. It's truly a work of literary fiction; the gorgeous John Donne-esque study of humanity vs rationality is such a powerful lens to explore the complex relationships (and demise) of the six university students the novel circulates around. I'm in love with their nuanced relationship with each other (lingering somewhere between romance, hatred and brotherhood - this actually really reminds me of the relationship between men in ancient greek texts that modern translations are always conflicted if they are in love or just close friends). I'm in love with the study of how language enriches, tears and shapes the characters. I've been ranting to a friend about how its giving me Great Gatsby crossed with Macbeth crossed with Lord of the Flies vibes because it pays homage to the origins and development of the novel form throughout time with its delicate character arcs and novel progression. The hamartia of all the main characters leading to their downfall, the unreliable narrator (Richard is one of the most interesting protagonists I've ever read and such a creative perspective to tell the story), the beautiful and symbolic prose that glows even when it's pulled apart.

This is something that I'd definitely recommend everyone to read!

Constructive Criticism: A Guide

Hey everyone :)) Here's a quick guide that I've created for giving others constructive criticism. This is by no means 'all inclusive' and you should of course use your own judgment before sending anyone feedback of any kind, but here a few general rules that I use when writing con crit (as a professional editor) <3

For those wondering, don't worry, I'm still working on another SoC rant and some more poetry but this is just an interesting aside I thought I might post :DD

So without any further ado, the concrit rules:

Firstly and most importantly, don't provide constructive criticism unless the writer has explicitly asked for feedback. If you're asked by a friend to 'let me know what you think' -- this is generally an opening for support, rather than concrit

Be sure to read the text as an objective piece of work, with a clear frame of mind. These may seem like obvious stipulations, but avoid reading anything for the couple of hours before you read the work to prevent your mind being swayed to a particular judgment (e.g. reading a famous poet's work might make you more critical of a novice writer's first poetry). On that point, remember:

You are not here to give judgement! Avoid stating any terms like "Overall, this piece of work is good enough for ...." or "I think that I would rate this work a ../10". Your job is to provide an analysis of the text in front of you, not its value or worth

Okay, so now to the actual concrit. Lets say you've read this person's work and you're ready to give your feedback:

Always open up with your interpretation of the work so that the writer can see what exactly you are thinking as you are analysing. This statement could be something as simple as "The poem that you've sent me was an evocative teenage love story intersected with romantic poetry to show the everlasting nature of love". In the case that you have mis-interpreted the text, this allows the writer to take your further evaluations with a grain of salt and also gives them a subtle nudge to perhaps improve the clarity of their message :)

List your points in size order. What I mean by that is start with the easiest thing that the writer can fix (e.g. your basic line edit including spelling, punctation, grammar, word choice, etc.) and then slowly work down your edit as you reach the bigger ideas (e.g. major themes, overarching concepts, etc). There are a few benefits for doing it this way. Firstly, as a reader, it makes logical sense to evaluate the themes of a text after you have finished reading the entire work; this way you have a greater appreciation for the text as a whole (which is required for a concept) rather than the text as a collection of small parts. Secondly, for a writer who may be using your edit like a checklist, they can quickly 'tick-off' the easy fixes and then work the bones of their text more thoroughly (also its often hard to start editing your work and simple fixes are a good early motivator).

Afterwards, I always like to go for the 'one for one' rule. For every one feature you 'criticise', give one place where the writer as done well. These should generally be linked if possible. I'll give an example, say my friend who is writing the teenage love story has a really compelling plot that falls short due to flat characters....you'd state something like "You create a touching story that could be enhanced through better characterisation." So this way, you acknowledge the work the writer has done and also introduce your feedback. Notice how instead of criticising, I posed the above statement like an improvement. Give the person something concrete to work on!

Expand! Apart from the judgemental trope, the other trap that editors often fall into is writing wishy-washy statements that don't really have a solution. I'm sure we've all been in that english class with that one teacher who circles entire paragraphs with the overly descriptive term 'vague' and not had a clue about what to fix. Don't be that teacher! Try and list as many clear examples of what the author could touch up on and fix (without sounding too domineering of course). For example: "The characterisation of your protagonist Sue falls a little flat because it's hard to have empathy for her. You portray her as an extremely beautiful young woman who is bullied for her good looks but is still really popular....I'd suggest reconsidering how realistic this may be. You have an amazing connection built up between Sue and Alex however, perhaps a greater focus on that rather than so much description about Sue might be more effective :)"

Finally, wrap everything up with a nice (generally uplifting) conclusion. My advice is that no matter how terrible the text you have just read, the writer has taken the steps to go out and send you their work! This is much more difficult that it seems! Congratulate them for their effort, perhaps point out some of the nicest parts of their work. I like to add short quotes from the work that I found particularly interesting at the end. This not only leaves them on a happier note but also makes them feel comfortable and safe about sharing their work and moving to improve it! Remember, you have had plenty of time to talk about the flaws, this is the time to build up their morale and let them work through everything.

Okay, so now you've written out your concrit. Here are a few things you should do before sending it to the person:

Give the text another read! I cannot emphasise how important this point is!!! Often themes or concepts that might not have made too much sense the first time become a lot clearer now that you are in the world of the text. Also you can make sure that your critiques actually match the work :)

Give your concrit a read. Try and avoid basic spelling and grammar mistakes and make sure you don't sound too patronising or rude. Perhaps sprinkle some other nice things in there too :)

Remember, a piece of writing is often someone's baby! It can be personal and vulnerable for someone to hear its criticism. Be kind and supportive in your work!

If everything is good, send through your concrit to the person. Generally I like to wait a few days or until the person themselves reaches out to me again before talking about the text anymore. Give them some time to process; allow them the space to decide what they want to do with their work.

Sometimes, your writer might not take all of your edits on board. That is perfectly okay! You, like any other human being, can be flawed and have opinions that don't align with someone else. At the end of the day, it is not your work that you are giving concrit to and it is entirely the writer's decision of how they want to shape their work. Try not to take ignored concrit too personally :)

So there you have it; a relatively comprehensive guide to giving concrit. Whether it be for the next literary journal you edit or for that fanfiction you've read (with a writer specifically asking for concrit ofc), I hope some of these tips and tricks help you in your editing work :) If you have any questions, feel free to ask me (I love asks, comments and DMs) :))) I might consider doing beta reading here in the future and if you have requests you can also contact me as above!

My #1 post of 2022

I think in a way all the main characters from the secret history have a greek god equivalent which such a powerful meta-narrative created by Donna Tartt.

Julian of course is Zeus; all powerful, untouchable and superficially the bestower of justice. All the characters look up to him as the great father (like how Zeus was)....until we realise he's actually just a coward who wants to save his own skin (even the most casual greek mythology reader would know how terrible zeus truly is).

Henry is Dionysus; tragic back-story, favourite of Julian, attractive and a natural leader. His obsession with the bacchanal (from all the six, he was the one most driven to do this) also makes sense then -- despite the 'order' that surrounds him, he is intrinsically drawn to chaos.

Charles is Apollo; likeable, brilliant but once you peel back his carefully crafted exterior, he is just as ruthless as the rest of the six. Camilla, his twin sister would be Artemis; untouchable (she also remains single throughout the book despite everyone being in love with her), clever and beautiful.

Francis I see as Hermes...god of messages (he's the only one who really stays in touch with Richard and keeps the group together at the end), travel and boundaries (with his home being like the 'safe place' for the entire group). Hermes is also the god of tricksters...while Francis doesn't play any practical jokes, Richard is constantly deceived by him (until he comes to realise that Francis is really no better than the rest of the group).

Now this one is a bit of a curve-ball but I personally see Bunny as Prometheus. You know, the titan who was favoured by Zeus until he gave the mortals fire and then was cursed to eternal damnation? While Bunny isn't quite as sacrificial, his realisation of the murder is the first straw in the group's elaborate lies coming undone (the way that Prometheus's sacrifice allowed the humans to gain some level of power against the gods).

I think that Richard then fits Ariadne. A minor goddess who as a mortal (mortal signifying the characters not related to the ancient greek class) is betrayed by the people who love her and then dumped on Dionysus' shore (remember Henry taking Richard to hospital that winter?). She falls for Dionysus (okay maybe this is a little bit self-indulgent...Richard/Henry <3) and the freedom she gains from being around with him (like how Richard tries to escape his childhood and has an obsession with beauty). Eventually, her downfall is through trusting the freedom that Dionysus gave her (the way that Henry plans to pin the blame on Richard during the end of the book)...quite similar to how the book doesn't end happily for any of the characters.

Also Judy Poovey is Aphrodite for absolutely no reason except that she's stunning....

Isn't it ironic how out of all of them, only Bunny and Richard aren't olympian gods?

Every time that I think I'm over this book I discover another thread....

Not The Same (GeorgeNotFound)

summary : you put out a song, but it attracted the wrong type of crowd and caused too many misunderstandings.

trigger warnings : threats (including death and doxing), panic attacks, taking of meds.

"you're THOSE type of fans, huh?" you read the comments on your newest song release.

and that was the start of your downfall.

you and your dad really enjoyed singing. at any opportunity you two got, you would be doing a duet.

whether that would be at at a close relative's wedding or your at home karaoke set up, you two knew how to entertain people.

though singing was your passion, you ended up being too busy with school and trying to graduate with a diploma to even think about singing again.

but you swore to make a career of your singing after high school. you just loved it too much.

but then, you didn't go to college for music, which pretty much shocked your parents and your friends since they knew your only passion in life was singing.

but you took a different direction. you still wanted to sing and you were trying your hardest to find a way to make that your career.

someday, anyway. but you needed to have a plan to fall back into in case anything goes wrong.

you were a realist, after all.

so off to college you went.

you spent long hours studying for tests after tests, sat through hours of lectures, did endless amounts of projects.

in the end, it was all worth the wait and fatigue. you graduated top of your class.

you went off to be an intern, clocked in more hours before you could fully go into the next phase of your life.

and after those long hours, you finally made the decision (with the support of your parents) to take a gap year.

but before anyone panics. your gap year was not all fun in games where you took to rest and lay in bed all day.

you took the gap year to see if the music industry fits you. to see if you even had the chance to succeed.

and if it did, you could finally have your dream job. but even if it didn't you were not going to be upset if you needed to fall back onto your backup plan.

in the duration of the gap year, you took voice lessons, and poetry classes for song writing.

and with whatever you have learnt, you took that into writing songs that you felt really relate to your life experiences.

so you spend at least a couple months writing multiple songs.

after almost 2 years, you finally came out with your first song. and it definitely got recognition. more than you thought you'd get, if you were being completely honest.

and that was what pushed you to sit your ass back on your desk to write more, and go into your makeshift studio and make the words into songs.

your parents were ecstatic to hear that you were finally doing the things you loved. and you knew you'd never get this far if it weren't for your family's support.

and so your music journey began.

it was going well for years. you were finally happy doing the one thing you enjoyed doing.

and you definitely think you were good at it. seeing and hearing the positive feedbacks from your family, friends and listeners.

you felt good.

but you lost that feeling when you came out with a new single, called ‘fan of you’.

you spent a while working hard on that song and you felt relieved when it was finally released. it was like a weight was lifted off your shoulders.

and you weren’t sure how one thing led to another, if you were being honest. at first, you received good feedback for your new songs. you even gained new listeners and your spotify rank rised.

but then it didn’t anymore.

your twitter flooded with mentions and your instagram full of tagged pictures and dms by accounts you’ve never heard of.

but you noticed a similarity with all of the spam. a guy name george. georgenotfound for short.

you being you, you looked into it. and that was when all of the information hit you. and all you had to look up was your name on twitter, and there it was, the longest thread of tweets you have ever seen in your life.

you took time to read it all, trying to make sure you didn’t miss anything crucial.

there must be an understanding. you didn’t know this guy name george. you’ve seen his face on pinterest once a while when you scrolled, yes. but you never looked into him.

this amazing person took their time to gather every bit of information there was about the scandal, which you were grateful for, or else you’d be scouring the internet for hours.

to summarise what you read, there was this artist by the name of tia jade who came out with a song a few months prior to yours called ‘just a fan.’

it was a good song, some say, and you could agree. it was professionally written and produced. but many fans of george found out that the song was about him.

not just about him, but about her falling in love with him, when she has never met him. and when his fans started to really listen and analyse the song, it got creepier.

basically, the song was about a fan falling in love with a celebrity/content creator and that they want to know them beyond their persona online.

but tia had apologised a little after the song came out, saying that she made that song based on a fan liking a content creator, and not about her falling for george.

but when you read enough of the issue, it definitely did seem like she was making that song to tell her story about falling for george. but she obviously needed an excuse to cover it up.

hence the apology.

and then you read about how they analysed your song, too.

they compared your song to tia’s and found it to have similar stories. stories about how a normal girl is falling in love with the man by the name of george, who had millions of followers on all social medias.

and if you admitted it to yourself, your song did seem to come out that way. especially if your mentality had been there. clearly your song could have been interpreted in many different ways.

you scrolled to the very bottom of the thread where there was a video of the man himself, george. he was addressing the issue.

“i don’t know how this happened twice. i thought once was weird enough, but.” he paused, focusing on building something on his screen.

“having heard of a song being about me again now makes my skin crawl.” he finished. it was short but enough to make his fans understand where he was coming from.

you scrolled further to see the replies of the thread. you wanted to know what were people saying about it.

and you definitely regretted your decision to do that.

threats everywhere. death threats, threats of beating you up, threats of doxing you. god the negative comments were drowned by the one’s that genuinely thought nothing wrong of your song.

you called you mom. this was the time you needed her advice. you needed to be told what to do. you didn’t want to accidentally trigger people.

you and her were on the phone for hours. she listened to you cried to her. she heard the painful sobs that came out of your mouth whenever you reminded yourself of what people were calling you on the internet.

she heard you cry silently on call when you saw your address and phone number being leaked on twitter.

but even through all of that, you joked around with your mom. “well, this was a hell of a way to be trending.”

you did what she told you to do. get a new phone number, stay in a hotel for a couple days while you try to settle the raging crowd of georgenotfound fans down.

in the span of a couple weeks, you got yourself a new number, a new house and a new car. you weren’t taking any chances.

you told no one besides your mom of the new changes, just to be safe.

and no, the threats did not cease. at all. these people did not have a life, constantly up in your dms, telling you to jump off a cliff or them hoping that a robber stabs you and leaves you dying.

you took your time trying to figure out a way to talk to george. or a way to speak out about this.

you didn’t want to write a half-assed notes app paragraph apologising when- first of all, you had nothing to apologise for and second, you had too much to say to fit it all in a notes app.

lucky for you, you didn’t need to start your own channel or make a sit down video on your own.

your recording label had brought up the idea of a documented series about you and how you became a singer about a year ago, and only started filming and posting the episodes a couple months prior on youtube.

so you took the series to your advantage. you pitched in the idea to your manager, to which she agreed to immediately, knowing that it was best you talked about it now.

this was how it played out on the perspective of viewers who watched that episode.

“bless you.” your producer says after you paused your singing in the mic as you stopped to sneeze.

you gave him a smile and a thumbs up from inside the booth.

the camera cuts to another clip.

the cameraman pans as they captured movers coming in and out of your old house, picking up your heavy furniture and boxes into large trucks to move into the new place.

it cuts again. this time it shows you scrolling on your phone with a focused face while your manager types something vigorously on her computer.

the camera tries to focus on your phone, and sees that you were on twitter, reading a lot of tweets under your name.

you exited the app and slide it away, going into youtube next, reading the comments on your song ‘fan of you’.

you scrolled far, clicking on some of the comments, trying to read the replies to certain comments you saw.

the camera cuts into a black screen. which then cuts again into a new scene, where you sat on your new kitchen counter talking to your mother, who sat on the chair in front of you.

your hair was up in a ponytail. a messy one. you were wearing sweatpants and a hoodie that seemed far too big on you, and your feet covered with fluffy socks.

you were nodding to whatever she was saying to you. it was clear your mind was elsewhere as your eyes were unfocused.

the scene cuts again.

you were seen on the couch, your legs were tucked into your arms and your head down, body shaking. it was obvious you were crying.

you were alone, your mother no where to be seen.

that was the first time the camera caught you crying.

the scene cuts as you were going to get up from the couch.

now, you were in the kitchen again, opening the refrigerator to take a water bottle, then walking to your room upstairs.

the camera follows behind you slowly into your room.

it hadn’t been the cleanest. there were a couple shirts on the floor, your bed undone, cups on your side table, your laptop open on your desk.

you were seen opening a drawer, taking out a small white bottle. you unscrewed the bottle and took out 2 pills, popping them in your mouth, drinking water straight away after that to swallow.

the scene cuts again.

this time, you were seated on the couch in the studio, the atmosphere dark and quiet.

your hair was more kept this time, being help up in a clip.

you were wearing straight jeans and a slightly oversized sweatshirt. you looked more refreshed this time. but it was obvious you hadn’t slept in a while because of your eyes.

your eyes that usually held a lot of happiness and joy turned dull.

“it’s been a while since i’ve spoken to a camera.” you offered a small smile. your song ‘just a fan’ was playing in the background of the clip.

the scene cuts again.

“when i released that song, i was genuinely proud of the work i had done.” you paused for a while. besides the song playing in the background, it was silent.

“but i guess the joy didn’t last very long.” the scene cuts there.

it transitioned to a collage of what people were saying about you. it showed clips of people talking about it on youtube. they even showed george talking about it.

and it cuts again.

it showed a different clip this time. a clip of your ex boyfriend and you at the beach on a picnic, that was taken by a close friend of yours.

this was when you were still in college.

it showed all the fun memories you two made while you were still together.

it showed a video of him studying in the library, flipping through his papers and scrolling through his laptop. it was clear he was hard at work, not noticing you filming him.

but then the scene cuts again. and the music turned somber.

your ex boyfriend’s grave.

it was the day you were visiting him. you sat down next to his stone, a blanket under you.

you were just staring at his stone, not moving.

and it cuts again.

“he was one of the most driven person i have ever met.” you told the camera.

“he knew when to be serious and when to have fun.” you looked down in your hands and played with your rings.

“all he ever talked about was becoming a surgeon. he worked hard in his intern years and continued being passionate through his residency.” you spoke up.

“people had only nice things to say about him. the only bad thing they would say about him is that he can be pretty uptight sometimes, especially when he was stressed about something.” you laughed a little.

“i was a huge fan of him, even when we just saw each other in the hallways. he’s just amazing. i’ve always wanted to be just like him.”

“i wanted to write a song about him but i didn’t the song to be sad.” you said.

“and that was when the song ‘fan of you’ was created.

the scene cuts there and goes into another.

you were in the recording booth again, this time, you were singing into the mic.

the camera pans to your producer and manager dancing and bobbing their heads to the beat.

the scene cuts, officially ending it with a black screen with ‘the end’ in a fancy white font.

you busied yourself with writing new songs as your name got trended again on twitter.

and george has never felt worse about himself ever in his entire life.

he watched the episode as soon as dream sent it to him.

“you’re an asshole, george.” dream sends to him, along with the link of the video on youtube.

as the video ends, he decides to read the comments, wondering what it was like down there.

it was the worse mistake he had ever made in a while.

but he knew he deserved it. he did assumed it was about him, just like the last song made with a drawing of his glasses as their cover photo on spotify.

this time, there was genuinely no reason to think that this song was about him, or anyone with a following whatsoever. he just believed what his chat told him.

sure, there were some familiarity of the character in your song and him, but the world did have 7.6 billion people living on it.

“so, here i am apologising.” george says to his camera, live. his tone was very sincere and apologetic.

“this shouldn’t have gotten this far. they shouldn’t have gotten threats at all, let alone death threats. they shouldn’t have woken up to the world knowing where they live and what their phone number is.”

“and if you’re watching. i sincerely apologise. i clearly was full of myself.” george finishes. ending the live with a small wave.

and were you watching? hell yes.

and that was the day the two of you followed each other on instagram.

he used your songs as his intros of his live, (with your permission, of course.) you showed in your documentary that you were watching whenever he was live or watching his youtube videos.

and that was the start to a beautiful relationship.

Okay, seeing all this at once is sort of cool. In my defense about the tags, I don’t often add tags to my posts at all. But I do try to be conscious of the fact that there are a lot of young people on this site, and that the world contains plenty of minors and adults who find it difficult to read stories in which alcohol is discussed flippantly, so when I talk about being a person who drinks alcohol sometimes I try to tag that consistently so it’s easy for people to block those tags and not see my posts. Just... just felt the need to include that explanation, because I feel like it doesn’t make me look great that two of my top five tags are related to alcohol. I don’t post about alcohol all the time... I think.

Anyway, I’m putting my year in review under the cut if anyone wants to see my top five posts and how rarely I use tags (combine that with the fact that I have an Android and would never get an iPhone, and I’m pretty much unaffected by the great iOS tag ban of this weekend).

I uploaded this video to YouTube a few months ago, and this morning I got a notification that said it’s been blocked in a few countries. I guess Sean’s death has caused more searches for his name or something and maybe that has alerted the copyright police to the existence of videos with his name in the title? I honestly have no idea whether that’s how this works, or whether it’s just a coincidence that it got a copyright hit today.

Either way, fuck that, and this seems like a good time to upload it to Tumblr again. When I first created this blog, just over a year ago now, Tumblr asked me what I wanted my username to be. I knew it would be a Britcom blog, so I’d make the name a Britcom reference. I asked myself what was my favourite Britcom line that I could put into a name. And I came up with the time that Sean Lock expressed a desire to tell meerkats at the zoo to relax.

I said this when I first uploaded this clip ages ago, and I’ll say it again: I really think this encapsulates something special Sean Lock was able to do with comedy. Craft this really specific image (we can all clearly picture the way meerkats frantically run around an enclosure digging holes, right?) and then just riff on it and take us all with him while he does so.

Fucking hell.

My reaction to the devestating news is going to come out a bit at a time, but here’s one thing: the first thing that brought a tear to my eyes was when I looked at my notifications and saw a bunch of likes and reblogs for my old Catsdown posts because people must be going through the Catsdown/Sean Lock tags right now.

The first thing that made me go from a tear in my eye to properly crying was when I read Jon Richardson’s tweet about it. Sean Lock would hate that he was the reason I broke my usual pattern of not going on Twitter (I mean, Sean Lock wouldn’t give a fuck what I personally do, but he’d be sorry to be responsible for Twitter getting extra views). Somehow I think the picture from their trip to America is the worst part. The episodes documenting that trip are some of the first things I thought of after seeing the news.

Me: I really love and appreciate the fact that Ren never gives any indication that he values Nora for her physical appearance. It’s a nice way to shake up the typical m/f dynamic by having her compliment him rather than the other way around, and it fits into the popular headcanon that Ren is somewhere on the asexual spectrum. It’s also really nice to see that a woman like Nora, who is energetic and bubbly and crazy and SO MUCH TO DEAL WITH, can be valued for those very qualities, not despite them.

Something I’ve noticed during my rewatches of the show is that Brooklynn’s…kinda clumsy???

It’s not super obvious, but there’s some moments that I don’t think others get the equivalent of, like when she drops her phone in the gyrospheres, falls over on what are essentially flat surfaces while running from dinosaurs (Indominus in season one, Baryonyxes in season two), and has this whole mini battle with a cup that almost falls down the stairs that anyone else in the group could have probably just grabbed in one swipe without having to toss it around and then fling themselves on it. There’s probably a few more that I’m forgetting, too.

My point is. I. LOVE. How that’s included. Usually when a girl character is clumsy it’s basically her whole personality. “Oh she’s SO clumsy cuz she’s QUIRKY and RELATABLE and not a Mary Sue because she’s FLAWED!!!” She bemoans how clumsy she is. Everyone around her makes a big deal out of it. It’s used repeatedly for comedy and “Oh my, she fell down onto her love interest!!!” I’m SO sick of seeing it. So for it to be included as something so subtle that it’s almost a headcanon is ridiculously refreshing, and actually WORKS as something endearing the way it’s supposed to be because it’s not being hammered into you.

Happy 30th anniversary of Darkwing Duck!

Although it began on April 8, 1991, the real beginning of the series was on this day, September 6, 1991, with the showing of the episode "Darkly Dawns the Duck", which marked the beginning of Drake Mallard's real career as a superhero and protector of St.Canard, or as Darkwing Duck. One of the best cartoon series during the 1990s era that contains full action and comedy and really good stories. Happy 60th birthday to Magica De Spell!

Although I'm already quite late and I apologize for the delay, I still wanted to publish this news. On April 17, 1961, the genius Carl Barks began writing a new comic called "The Midas Touch." Although it was only released in December, that date (I mean April 17), Barks created a new character who became one of the most famous fictional ducks and we can say besides Daisy Duck, the best female duck in cartoons and comics, as well as the best villain or frenemy, however you experience it, is Magica De Spell. These images are mostly from her appearances in comics (Barks, Rosa, American and European comics) and in cartoons such as Ducktales (both versions), as well as the Ducktales game.

Of course, there are some members of her family, as well as some of her sympathies (in case you like one of them).

For those who don’t know among the top 5 of my posts for this year, there are mostly posts related to anniversaries and birthdays, except for second place. The second place is related to the prototype designs (by Dan Haskett) of Donald's nephews for Duck Daze or Quack Pack, but this can be counted as the 25th anniversary of this series (Quack Pack). Fifth place is tied to the 30th anniversary of Darkwing Duck, fourth place to Daisy Duck’s birthday, third place to Magica de Spell’s 60th birthday, and first place to Don Rosa’s 70th birthday. However, I must say that last year, in 2020, I had two of my best posts, around Donald's birthday and around Father's Day, and they have more likes and reblogs than these posts this year. You know the rest.

I’m just flashing back to other Transformers shows and remember in two separate shows had Megatron use his spark energy to corrupt others.

He did it to the stasis pods in RiD 2001 to get the Scourge and the Decepticons.

Again in Energon. God, that scene...

And now I crave it for TFA!

Could even be an accident! Like when Megatron had the AllSpark and when Optimus got blasted by it. A small bit of the spark energy could hve remain behind and over time, just over takens Optimus.

Like Optimus wouldn’t have noticed it but just over time, his personality and actions start to change. More aggressive and such.

Even the rest of the team wouldn't be able to ignore it forever over this new Optimus.

Hell! Maybe Megatron feels something in his spark. Nothing at first but over time, he can feel a pull.

And realize this pull is drawing him to Optimus. This really catches his interest and Megatron has to find out why.

Might have to come back to this one.

Random Idea while I avoid sleep: PreWar MegOp with Orion Pax as an high end courtesan. Could have patrons with the likes of senators and others of the high caste but still work in research or something. He would be some type of Renaissance courtesans.

But Megatron doesn't know that cause he first meets Orion at like of the Archival or some neutral area. He just see Orion as a quite lovely mech with a brain.

Or something else....need to work on it

Random thought for: Cellmate AU

I really want to do more for this AU. Like I really enjoyed during MegOp week and have so many more ideas for it.

Like thinking about like an Epilogue with Optimus has he tries to comes to understand everything now.

The poor mech has regain all his old memories but still remembers the time he spend with Megatron and the Decepticons as Orion. It causes him such mix feelings cause Optimus knows he should hate Megatron for what he had done, and part of him does. Still, Optimus has to wonder if all of his time with the warlord was nothing but lies, that Megatron was playing around with him.

Optimus still can't help but still have feelings for him. His time as Orion, there was so many moments that Megatron was sweet and kind to him, that it felt that the Decepticon really cared for him. He could still picture the hurt on his face when Optimus said his real name and stood against him.

Than there are Optimus' feelings on the whole Autobot/Decepticon war which makes him even more confused. He knows now that the Autobots aren't the good guys that they make themselves out to be.

Both sides have their faults and Optimus find himself actually even tore in thinking was Megatron really right. That maybe he shouldn't have fought against him back at the mine and just let him continue with the plan.

Than there is his old team and friends trying to get the old Optimus back but only a few of them realize that the bot they knew isn't really around anymore. Ratchet and Prowl would realize that everything Optimus went through as Orion must have changed him and want to at least help him figure things out.

Than there is human relations too cause seriously Optimus did some times attack the city so they wouldn't trust him too much.

All so want to bring the Jet Twins into this cause I just want their reactions to Optimus. With his new larger frame and a flight mode, they would so be curious as heck.

Sentinel doesn't like it though. Makes him nervous how Optimus is now like twice his size.

Also wanted to do like a naughty separate piece with Orion and Megatron, hohohoho cause that happen if you all were wondering.

It happened.

but I want to finish up other chapters first before I get himself into something else. I want to finish Shuffling the Playlist first.

Thoughts though?

random thought before sleep

I feel like that Heatwave would have sided with the Cons if he was given the chance at the start of war. Not sure how long he would stick with them with how trigger happy they become later on so he might switch to the Autobots but who knows with how mechs change with war. But at the core, Heatwave could get behind getting rid of the caste system and such.

just get a feeling that being a rescue bot wasn't Heatwave's first choice of careers.

maybe just like the idea of Heatwave use to admire Megatron and what he had initial stood for.

So this is a request for Kisara-16! (Thank you so very much for this request Kisara!) It's about Arthur showing Y/n around Edinburgh (where he grew up) I hope you enjoy it!

The streets of Edinburgh were quite cheerful, people smiled and greeted eachother, it was lively but not hectic.

This had been the first time Y/n had traveled anywhere since deciding to live in Le Comte's mansion. So a trip to Edinburgh with Arthur was just a lovely idea! Y/n loved travelling and spending time with her beloved, so spending time with him in his hometown, well nothing could be better!

The way she felt walking down the streets was a sort of odd feeling.

Edinburgh just matched Arthur perfectly.

It was energetic and alive and gave off an almost flirtatious mood, everything was beautiful! Yet, the weather gave it a hint of sadness.

Although Arthur did warn her that Britain did tend to be cloudier.

As they kept walking Y/n saw a lovely brick estate, it reminded her a tiny bit of Comte's but it seemed to remind her more of someone else, a particular someone that was standing beside her.

"Luv! What's with all the daydreaming! We're nearly there" beamed Arthur.

He walked up to the front deck of the beautiful estate and piled the luggage onto it.

Y/n snapped out of her daze,"Sorry, Sorry! I just can't believe my eyes! Edinburgh is so beautiful" She replied

"Glad you like it Y/n, welcome to my estate! It's still quite shocking Comte bought it after my supposed death, it was a very nice thing to do, it all looks just as I remember it" he rambled joyously. He looked at Y/n and happily.

She smiled and said "I'm glad we can stay here together Arthur, It's really a dream come true!"

The two of them moved thier belongings inside and Y/n decided to inspect the whole house. It was Arthur's afterall! Maybe there's an old picture of him somewhere, or something else that was interesting she could go ask him about.

She made her way upstairs and found herself in Arthur's old bedroom.

Arthur's taste hasn't changed much in furniture, so blues and browns decorated the room, and the curtains that matched were in a beautiful 1900's style.

Y/n looked around noticed pictures in his room, his smile really was beautiful in any time period! She also saw some old articles and documents on Arthur's desk.

She picked up one of the articles lying on his desk, "a dissertation on tabes dorsalis, so it's like a medical thing and the date on it is 1885" she accidentally mumbled, then in a moment she felt strong arms around her shoulders.

"So this is where my lovely bird flew off too!" Arthur teased

Y/n giggled a bit at the remark.

"Sorry Arthur, I couldn't help myself" she said

Arthur smiled, "it's quite alright luv, anything else caught your fancy?"

Y/n put the paper down and picked up another that was previously lying underneath it.

She looked at the article and said "It's an article advocating for compulsory vaccination".

Arthur smiled, "I sure did write a lot of them"

Y/n loved all the hard work Arthur did, all his articles were just beautiful!

But she wondered what Arthur was feeling at that moment, remembering his life as a doctor did cause him pain, but at this moment he was smiling, it must have been the nostalgia.

Just thought it would be interesting to think about what pokemon starters the Ikemen vampire characters might pick! And maybe what kind of trainers they would be...well of course once Mc explained what a pokemon is...I hope this isn't boring

So here's the headcanon :

(These are just my opinions! Feel free to tell me what you think! There isn't like a wrong or right answer)

Arthur :

• Arthur finds all the starters of each generation interesting

• would probably pick a pokemon with an outgoing personality something like maybe Oshawott, Charmander, or Popplio

• Remembering when Arthur told us about when he was getting Vic...who's to say he won't make that same cute mistake twice (even with his godly observation skills, he's still capable of mistakes sometimes, rarely, besides it's cute) With a pokemon this time

• So Arthur chooses Popplio

• "don't you look like a fine gent, let's get along nicely"

• Eventually Popplio evolves into Brionne and then Primarina then he realizes his Primarina is a girl

• still sticks to his guns like he does with Vic

• He loves how pretty and majestic Primarina looks, and plenty of "Skirts" in town like his pretty Primarina too

• He would probably be decent at batting but with a beauty like Primarina maybe he would try Contests or Musicals instead, also lots of contest or musical trainers are women ;)

• Imagine Arthur dressing up Primarina as a detective!

• He would probably also be the kind of trainer to always stock up on full restores, revives, and full heals.

• He might be a pokemon breeder on the side it kinda suits him sort of, maybe eventually dabble a bit in pokemon doctoring

• He might meet Brock from the first season of Pokemon and become good friends

• Would probably be smart with like battle items too like X Attacks and X defenses and such

• perfect strategist and would set up terrains and use smart moves, would also have perfect offence and defense

• He and Primarina would probably be a delight to have a journey with

Theo :

• Would immediately look for a strong and or tough looking one

• No dog starter, that's too bad

• Stays the hell away from Litten

• Can sense great things from Charmander

• trains very hard everyday

• Charmander evolves into Charmeleon then Charizard and does not disappoint

I'm not sure if this has been done before, someone probably has but I'd like to do a headcanon of Mc who is relieved and joyful about traveling back in time and living with vampires and wants nothing more than to forget about the time she came from and never have to deal with it again.

Not sure how interesting or relatable it will be, but here it is!

• Mc walks through the door and is confused about where she is

• She meets the mansion residents one by one and starts to calm down instead of any sort of doubt or panic (doesn't know they're vampires yet) and nobody even calls her loud or annoying because she's walking at a respectable pace and her voice is perfectly calm, doesn't even question why they have names of historical people

• She goes to her room pleasantly surprised with the living quarters

• She does get that nightmare but it's like not even scary once she thinks about while awake, and excites her even.

• She gets water in the kitchen anyways because she's awake and there's no getting back to sleep at this point

• Tells Sebastian the dream but instead of calling it a nightmare, she tells him she's finally dreaming about something interesting and thrilling for once

• Sebastian is at a loss of words at first but then says "Mc, that dream, although it may seem interesting, probably serves as a warning to not give them body, mind or soul, and it was probably meant as a nightmare, because the residents that live in this mansion are what you saw in your dream, vampires"

• Upon hearing this news Mc's eyes light up and she says "for real?"

• Sebastian nods and says "yes"

• Arthur enters the kitchen and has only heared that last bit of the conversation, "Cat's out of the bag, am I right Sebas" he said he approached Mc

• He does tease her and say all that stuff about biting her, he even showed that bloodstain on his collar from his previous snack.

• Arthur doesn't know what to say at this point so he just plainly says, "So you're not afraid living with vampires, luv?"

• Mc quickly replies with "Exact opposite actually, I find it fascinating and perfect, the thing I've always wanted to be real"

• Arthur still feels the need to stick close to her because her seemingly lack of self preservation bothers him a little but he happy accepts Mc being happy living in a mansion of vampires

• The next day Comte asks to see her so she complies

• Comte asks about her encounter with Arthur and why it didn't even frighten her

• Mc tells him that she finds it cool that something similar but other than humans exist! And she's thrilled about living with vampires and that she will do her utmost best working for Sebastian as a housekeeper

• Comte is also a bit startled at her way of handling this, but he is glad that she is more than willing to happily live here for what he at this point thinks is a month, and he likes her attitude towards working with Sebas and says "Ma chèrie,

I do appreciate you taking these startling arrangements very well, if there is anything you need please let me know, and I'd also like to add if you need someone to talk to, my door is always open"

• Mc thanks Comte gratefully and asks Sebas to get to work

• Sebas has Mc doing not so hard tasks and she learns about rouge and blanc and about when to feed whom and things like that

• She learns of thier hobbies and builds a friendship with each of them

• She gets close with all of the mansion pets too

• The mansion residents are glad Mc came to the mansion

• they've noticed Mc hates talking about her time and hasn't expressed any desire to return to her time

• It sort of weighs on thier minds for a while

1. Do you remember the episode/scene/chapter that you first started shipping 6?

I believe it didn't hit me before Spider-Man: Homecoming. Civil War was about Steve & Bucky for me, but when I saw that growing up Peter with Tony, their dynamic, chemistry. Tom & Robert are really just like that.

2. Have you ever read a fanfic about 2?

Lmao. I've read like 50% of the tag on AO3, I wrote my own & started a few wips on them. They are amazing. Plus, with that shitty canon? We didn't get enough of them & they deserved better, so it's only logical to save yourself with fanfiction.

3. Has a picture of 4 ever been your screen saver/profile picture/tumblr screen saver?

I was living with The Outsider icon on my twitter & tumblr. That one is still my Google profile picture I believe. Don't remember about having an icon with the two of them. Also had The Outsider as my lockscreen on my smartphone for a while.

4. If 7 were to suddenly break up today, what would your reaction be?

Funny how it fits canon, lmao. Rhys literally tried to erase Jack's AI in TFTBL, so I guess another day on Pandora, nothing new. They torture each other, they kiss each other, they kill other people in the process. It'll be fiiine.

5. Why is 1 so important?

I love them since the first time I met them, which was much more than 10 years ago, I don't even remember when. At some point they were the reason I was waking up & forcing myself to eat just to read more fanfiction & feel something. Even if I was drowning in pain (I was extremely depressed), it was still something. I read every fic I could find at that time. The depression that Harry went through, all these feelings, his love for Sirius. I was living through it, I could relate.

I'm currently drowning in these two again, though in a much healthier & happier state. I see their flaws & I know as much as I can. I see them differently as an adult. They saved me, they keep being my number one, I still consider making a tattoo of Padfoot/Sirius or of both Harry & Sirius together. I have many headcanons, ideas, I write fics about them. They are everything, you see? They were my choice when there was nothing, no one. They are HOME.

6. Is 9 a funny ship or a serious ship?

Both. There goes the dynamic of Jack & Rhys: torture, fighting, flirting, a lot of trauma. I'd definitely say that they are wild and comical sometimes, but they are definitely serious. With the Asylum, the mental health issues. There is so much more to it, the complexity of their relationship. The struggle of loving who you probably shouldn't (but hey, when does it work like that?) Thinking about Tettlate's Batman, about Batman: Europa & how Joker was: "You must be crazy, putting me in charge of the plan, letting me decide. Okay, well..."

Nah, they are entertaining, but this is a serious ship.

7. Out of all the ships listed, which ship has the most chemistry?

Are you kidding me? They are all the definition of CHEMISTRY. I'd say 5, but then go 2, 6, 7, 8. Come on. I'm not choosing. Most of they are WILD.

9. How many times have you read/watched the 10’s fandom?

The fandom itself? Idk. I found one of my favourite artists through this fandom. If it's about the characters themselves, I played the first game with the DLC from start to beginning, looking around every corner. Spent more than 60 hours in there. Watched a second game (my laptop can't run the game) and the DLC (obviously), since Francis is in the DLC & not in the main game. I have a tag for them on tumblr, I read fanfiction, I tried to write my own. I still follow Elias & want a third game. Elias liked my tweets about Adam and Jensen being an actual couple a few times. I'd say I interacted with all of this a lot? Still do, actually.

10. Which ship has lasted the longest?

5. Best friends since childhood, fought & died for each other, still found their way back to each other. "It would break your Captain's heart, to see what they did to you." That only the MENTION of Steve can pull Bucky out of this brain washing(ed?) state, distract him in the middle of a fight. When Steve died in the comics because of Sharon & Tony sent Natasha to take Steve's shield from Bucky because even Tony knew how much Steve means to Bucky. And Bucky was like: "Oh, I see what he did. Not happening!" Fought Natasha (that is his ex in the comics) & kept going for Steve's sake.

Well, you see the point, I can go on and on.

11. How many times, if ever, has 6 broken up?

They're not actually canon so none? They had a few fights: In Civil war (the comics), in Homecoming (the movie). That only means that they’ve got history & love each other.

12. If the world was suddenly thrust into a zombie apocalypse, which ship would make it out alive, 2 or 8?

As fierce Grace is, they wouldn't stand a chance against Damon & Elena. Those two had to deal with worst thing than brainless stupid zombies. On the other hand, if there were no alive humans to drink their blood... It's either an animal diet that Damon hates so much or I don't know? Still, they're faster & more powerful. Their bodies have advantage of healing the wounds as well.

13. Did 7 ever have to hide their relationship for any reason?

From some people, yeah. Don't tell Athena, don't tell Vaughn, don't tell Fiona. Though Rhys wasn't very subtle about it & Jack just doesn't give a fuck. You will probably end up dead if you disagree or bore him, or if you're useless.

"I can take you to the top, but you gotta know where the top is" & Rhys doesn't tell anybody until Jack makes him the President for like whole 20 minutes lol.

Fiona & Sasha: "This can't be happening." Sure it can, darling.

14. Is 4 still together?

I have a headcanon about The Outsider finding Emily & Corvo after Billie frees him from the Void. He doesn't have anybody & they are his only friends aside from a potential friendship with Billie. And if we don't consider TOTO dlc, they definitely are! The Outsider visits them both when they sleep & takes them to the void sometimes. How could he not?

15. Is 10 canon?

Not really but also sort of? Let's say that they really care about each other in canon, despite Adam pushing Francis away because of his trauma & fear that Megan caused him. :/

16. If all 10 ships were put into a couple’s Hunger Games, which couple would win?

Can you imagine wizards fighting extremely powerful vampires? Superheroes with venom in their bodies that make them super strong with people that made a deal with the Devil himself (hi Le Bail)? 5000 y.o. God and his lover that share his powers and an augmented human protecting his tired IT guy? Combine mental health issues to that, Jack and Rhys with Batman and Joker. Corvo & The Outsider would probably slay them all as Corvo and Emily did in both games with entire islands, though it will still be a slaughter anyway.

17. Has anybody ever tried to sabotage 5’s ship?

All the fucking time, lmaooo. I’m not even talking about it.

18. Which ship would you defend to the death and beyond?

I feel like I already did with Steve & Bucky after many Marvel movies (we're not even mentioning Endg*me, I fucking died & was dead for full 4-5 months).

19. Do you spend hours a day going through 3’s tumblr page?

I used to do that a few years back, but not anymore. There is not much content since the trilogy is finished.

20. If an evil witch descended from the sky and told you that you had to pick one of the ten ships to break up forever or else she’d break them all forever, which ship would you sink?

1 already went through it & fandom lives, so I'd say maybe 7? Rhys will find a way to bring Jack back & they are both so wild. It’s what happened in canon anyway. Jack kidnapped Lilith & forced her to do Angel's job, so I'd like to see that witch try at first. Jack is an immortal bastard. <3

Now that I think about it, Corvo would also deal with her in seconds as she waits to curse them.

As a conclusion: no one breaks up forever, we're killing the witch.

1. Do you think your surname (given, chosen, changed - any counts) suits you?

Haha yeah I guess... Its a presidents last name (we’re long related cousins or something) which is cool but it’s main syllable is “Hard” so you can imagine what my friends say...

2. Share a memory of something that wasn’t funny at the time, but is now?

Uhm I can't really think of anything

3. What do people comment on about your accent?

“Where are you from? You don’t sound like you’re from around here" I’ve got quite the southern accent, being from southern arkansas

4. Where is somewhere you’ve spent the night that you would never choose to revisit?

It was some hotel in Kansas or Nebraska. Idk it just wasn’t a good time at all

5. Imagine you’re on a forest path. describe the image; what time of day is it, what trees do you picture around you, what stands out to you in the scene?

So much brush and briars, deciduous trees- oaks, sycamores, pecans- and a few pines, midday. I’m on horseback going down one of the trails I helped cut at my horse camp and it’s so peaceful. There’s wind and birds and my horse Niña startled a deer up ahead. I pass by a vine with ripe muscadines; my birthday must be soon. It’s sweet and I miss it.

6. What is your go-to flavour of gum?

Depends on the brand. There’s a coke flavoured one that’s really good, but generically I like peppermint. Not spearmint tho. Hate spearmint.

7. Pick a song that hits you so hard you almost hate it?

Currently it’s Just to See You Smile by Tim McGraw bc that’s the song I associate with a very dear friend who I haven’t talked to in a while and I learned committed suicide a couple weeks ago.

8. Which kids tv show is the most nostalgic for you?

uhh Wild Kratts or Electric Company

9. What is the last thing you wanted to buy but talked yourself out of?

A leather jacket

10. Which photo/picture/poster have you had on display the longest?

A crayon drawing mum did (and I helped colour!) of a horse, I remember it laying in the bathroom floor a long time ago, I had to have been younger than 4 at least since it was before the divorce. Or a picture of me & mum on Prima, a horse I haven't had in forever, and I'm just a lil baby

Natsume yuujinchou (a teenage orphan who sees spirits/monsters sets out to free the spirits who were bound in magical contract by his grandmother after he inherits a powerful book, aided primarily by a spirit who appears as an exasperated fat cat (who is just as fun as he sounds). Titular character is like my Fave boy in the whole world, he’s so kind and soft despite all the hardships he’s faced, the series has very gentle pacing/character development, and each episode is a carefully crafted lil story that have often moved me to tears, chuckles, or outright chinhands of fondness as u watch natsume slowly find a home in the world and amongst the humans &spirits around him. big focus on friendships, there’s like no romance with any of the main characters, lots of cool different creatures (most of whom arent all that scary once u get to know them), its just literally everything i could ever dream for in a show and it exists! <3)

Leverage (team of modern day robin hoods ruin rich peoples’ lives via delightfully crafted spy cons to give back to the regular folks the rich people hurt. Extremely good, strong found family vibes, and v cathartic)

Brooklyn 99 (follows diverse cast of character who make up a NY precinct. Hilarious, immensely wholesome & groundbreaking, & probs the most lighthearted crime show besides like psych tbh)

Blackspot/Zone Blanche (spoopy french/belgium crime series set in a small village way out in the mountains surrounded by misty, mysterious and murdery woods. eerie and atmospheric, but also like one of my fave characters (everyone calls him teddy bear) keeps a pet guinea pig at work, so it’s not entirely grim and bleak)

Longmire (a modern western crime drama centering around the titular sheriff and others in their small town wyoming county, well written and lot of chracter development revealed alongside some really good case mysteries bc i love trying to figure out whodunits apparently based on a book series well adored by dads btw)

who is your favorite character in 2? (leverage) ahhh,,, this is hard... Eliot maybe? like Hardison is baby ofc, but i relate to elliot a ton (i think if i was on a team i would want to be the hitter tbh?) and love the subversion of so many action hero tropes that he is, also endlessly amused by how very put upon he is despite all his rad/random skills

who is your least favorite character in 1? (natsume yuujinchou) oh seiji matoba for sure, he can go eat a mouldy tree stump. absolutely evil nasty dude

what is your favorite episode of 4? (blackspot) the end of the road. great opening, didnt end up too devastating unlike a lot of the cases, Hermann was gr8, cool twist i hadnt super expected in the plot which was neat.

what is your favorite season of 5? (longmire) probs 1, walter reeally started to piss me off being Such A Man in later seasons, also me being extremely anxious about Henry and his life choices later, that creepy stalker storyline starting up with Someone and when Someone else in the main cast got died really suddenly and upsettingly later on as well, also when a weird relationship started between some of the characters that i really aint feeling so. before all that happened was nice (also sorry if this is super vague, im trying to avoid spoilers)

who is your favorite couple in 3? (B99) Besides Jake/Amy and Holt/Kevin (bc oviously theyre gr8) uh.. i know it was a long time ago and didnt last very long, but i thought rosa and marcus were really sweet? it brought another layer out to her character, even when they broke up that helped rosa starting to show emotional vulnerability and all, even tho it ended it was still just, idk, i liked them.

who is your favorite couple in 2? (leverage) Does trio count, cos Parker/Eliot/Harding 4 life yo

what is your favorite episode of 1? (natsume yujinchou) i have sooo many faves ahhh!!! i dont think i could pick just one on pain of death, every episode is acrefully cosntructed gem all on its own and i have too many that i love and adore to pick jsut one :((

what is your favorite episode of 5? (longmire) Dog soldier!! ive rewatched that one a ton, so so many good bits, really satisfying resolution of the case despite the shitty system that was revealed, and i rmr getting chills by the end the first time i saw it.

what is your favorite season of 2? (leverage) i guess season 1? just, idk, everything being set up and watching all these grumpies/less grumpies who have no plans to stay together start working together as a baby team, and just the joy of seeing their first heist together with the first plot twist, just.. such a delight, but all seasons that ive seen so far were all excellent, it’s a stellar show

how long have you watched 1? (natsume yujinchou) oh idk exactly, like years and years man... defs the longest out of all on this list

how did you become interested in 3? (b99) i think it was just on netflix way back in season 1 and i started watching it, loved it and never stopped? i think that might have even been before it got rlly popular lol

who is your favorite actor in 4? (blackspot) i dont rlly know any of these french peeps? but teddybear’s one of my fave characters, so hopefully the person who plays him is also cool, in which case hubert delattre (if not, Suliane Brahim does a v good job as the lead)

which do you prefer, 1, 2, or 5? (natsume yujinchou, leverage or longmire) um... real torn between natsume and leverage here, they’re both such lovely gems that do found family so, so well.. leverage is a team of modern robin hood-esque spies with brilliant writing and exciting heists and multiple delightful plot twists every episode and great character building and so much catharticism in ruining evil rich peoples lives.

but natsume’s title character is one of my very favorite characters ever, hes been through so much but he becomes the most kindest and thoughtful boy ever, and its so, so soft and gentle in its development of characters and their slow build of getting to know each other and becoming friends, and the interactions with the paranormal world are very rarely entirely malicious/scary, and there’s pretty well no romance, at least like no romance for plot/with the main characters anyways, and there’s lots of female characters who have important roles but arent sexualized/killed off for man feels/exist for romo (which sadly cannot be said about a lot of media, especially manga/anime tbh, even leverage does not win entirely on that front).. its defintiely my favorite anime ever (i dont watch loads, but literally no other one can ever come close to topping its perfection),

i guess tho, leverage is over, and natsume is still technically ongoing, so i guess for that then i have to go with natsume?

which show have you seen more episodes of, 1 or 3? (natsume yuujinchou or b99) Natsume for sure, they’re so short its easy to power thru like half a season in an afternoon

if you could be anyone from 4, who would you be? (blackspot) i would probably want to be someone who didnt live in villefranche actually haha uh, it’s a pretty spoopity place.. even some of the characters i do like make some Bad decisions that are v bothersome. Dr. Leila barami seems to have a good head on her shoulders tho, so if i Must be a character here then let’s go with her

would a crossover between 3 and 4 work? (b99 or blackspot) oh god... the cheery upbeat department at the 99 meet up with a grim, misty tiny mountain forest village with bleak day to day life, solving crimes amidst small town paranoia and weird maybe cult-related conspiracies and honestbhly something/s paranormal and menacing going on in the woods?? i just... cant see any of the characters even interacting lol, im just picturing jake’s confused befuddled face when he hears something weird but like x 10000

pair two characters in 1 who would make an unlikely but strangely okay couple? (natsume yujinchou) hm... i mean, one of the things i love about Natsume is that there arent really any romo relationships tbh? at least not with any of the main characters in the main storyline (so far), just like the odd one-off of minor characters (and takashi’s adopted parents ofc, but that’s different). so, yeah, i cant really think of one (although i think the big fandom fave ship of takashi and his worst enemy is rlly.. nope, and i dont know what’s going on there? takashi and tanama however, that would make sense, tho it is not unlikely so i cant answer this question with them)

overall, which show has the better storyline, 3 or 5? (b99 or longmire) b99! cos ya know my annoyances with some of the stuff happening later on in longmire lol, b99 just got better n better as it went along, and it’s still going :’)

which has the better theme music, 2 or 4? (leverage or blackspot) blackspot has a real good eerie atmospheric theme which is gr8 and i love it <3 (leverage’s tune is like, elevator music/cheesy jazzy spy tune, which does suit it tho lol)
