Hey Auntie Bree, question for you! Do you have any shop recommendations for rose thorns? I don't have access to roses or a garden, and short of asking a random florist for their cast offs, I don't know where to source them. Currently, I just pray the cheap bouquets at the grocery store missed a few thorns.

Tbh, I've gotten most of mine from rose bouquets too. I haven't found thorns on any of the bulk sites that I usually go to for my supplies, but you can probably find something on etsy. Rose, acacia, honey locust, something like that.

Ooh ok so fun thing I do: I'm the 4th generation from my mom's side to grow/raise orchids (great-grandparents, grandad and nana, mom and my uncles, and now me). So whenever any of my orchid blooms fall, I save them and use them as offerings on my ancestor altar in a glass box. When the box is full, I transfer the dried flowers to a big jar and use them as spell ingredients when I need that connection.

That is such a sweet thing, I'm so happy you have such a connection to your ancestors!

I don't really have a connection like that to my family, but I do have the petals from a tulip plant tucked away in a jar for Cernunnos. I got the feeling one day that he'd really like decaying, dried, or dead flower petals, so I just...gave them to him. It brings a pop of yellow to an otherwise black, white, orange, and green altar.

I had Aset-Tjenenet specifically come forward for you, in addition to the Ace of Cups. While Aset-Tjenenet can be a syncretism, I believe this is actually Aset using Tjenenet as a title. In her own right, Tjenenet deals with rebirth and renewal.

Witchy Asks #81 and/or #83 please?

81. In what area or subject would you most like your craft to grow?

I'd really like to find more time to research the finer points of the modern witchcraft movement in the 20th century. Wouldn't mind sharpening my sigil work and divination skills either. I don't use my cards or runes much, but when I do, they seem to work very well, so that's something I could probably lean into.

Wouldn't mind delving into some hobbycraft-based magic like knotwork or weaving either. And someday I definitely want to get back into candlemaking, either with jars or wax tarts. But I think all that will have to wait until we're settled in our new home.

83. Do you have a pre-ritual ritual? (I.e. Something you do before rituals to prepare yourself for them). If so what is it?

I always take a few minutes to tidy up the area where I'll be working and making sure that my accoutrements are in place and within reach before I begin. Then I may quickly read through any procedures or incantations involved so that I'm not stumbling over anything as I go through the process. If it's a special occasion, or if I feel like I need to raise some energy, I will sing. And it's almost always S.J. Tucker's "Witch's Rune." 😊

Hey Auntie Bree!!! (I've decided you're my auntie now, hope that's ok!)

I was going through my backlog of Hex Positive episodes I'd skipped/missed and I was wondered if you had suggestions for adapting the Eyes Like Coals spell for an apartment. Probably not a good idea to have the protective spirit attack the maintenance guy when they forget to inform me they're coming by 😅

Would it just be asking the spirit to let people in from the leasing company in without a problem?

Darling, I've been Mama or Auntie to plenty of my witchlings. It is a title that I cherish. 😊

"Eyes Like Coals" can very easily be adapted for any type of living situation, from a full-sized house to a single room. It's all about where you draw your boundaries and what instructions you give your little guardian when you call it forth.

You do raise a good point with exceptions. This is something I've had to work around in the past, following an incident where a catsitter was made VERY uncomfortable when they stopped by to feed the furbabies while I was out of town. What I've generally done since then is to give instructions for people who are allowed to come and go freely and who is allowed to enter to feed the cats or perform repairs.

For example, "I'm going now. Let no one come in except [these people]. [Friend] may come in to care for the animals. If Maintenance comes, they may enter so long as they mean no harm, stay but briefly, and follow the rules of the house." (The rules of the house being the main instructions I set down when creating the spell in the first place.)

On a practical note, if maintenance regularly drops by without informing you ahead of time, take that up with your landlord right away. In most states, they are legally required to provide 24 hours notice before entering your apartment unless there's some kind of maintenance emergency like structural damage or a plumbing-related flood. They should NOT be dropping by unannounced, especially while you're not home.
