forever obsessed with dynamics between vampires, specifically that of a maker and fledgling, as a way to explore abuse. the creation of a vampire itself can so easily be a literalization of the lasting impacts of trauma and also much more simply the ways a perpetrator might shape their victim’s very identity. the extremes of isolation in the way that the new vampire, in most narratives, must cut all ties to their mortal life, or else go through an elaborate charade to maintain the facade of humanity, while forever still being removed from it. and the sheer dependence and vulnerability of being in an entirely new state of being, wholly uncertain of what it entails, and relying on another person to define… everything.

detail i didn't catch until i giffed this scene: louis noticing his unhealed self-inflicted bite wound from earlier that night (with jonah) and quickly moving his wrist out of lestat's sight.

"that you could be so cruel" ok correct me if i'm wrong but does penelope featherington not run a gossip rag that exist solely to publish unsubstantiated rumors about women she doesn't like for various reasons that have profoundly negative repercussions on those women (didn't the publication of marina's pregnancy lead to marina almost dying in her quest to terminate said pregnancy??????) and has in fact used that same rag to put not just colin's entire family but also specifically colin's sister, her best friend, through a significant amount of grief and strife that came as a direct result of that rag?
but colin's the cruel one? because she happened to eavesdrop on a conversation where he said he doesn't wanna date her? that's cruelty but all the other stuff isn't?

My favorite Louis’ strategic lie by omission moment is still when in the first episodes he conveniently shows himself and Lestat going to sleep only when they happen to be fighting so he can imply that they sleep in separate coffins, but then Claudia’s narration later reveals they actually mostly sleep in the same coffin and those scenes were just the vampiric equivalent of Lestat being exiled to the couch

sorry but do you ever think about the fact that the bernard we have today is a direct amalgamation of everything that happened in his past and i know that sound like such an obvious statement to say but it actually kills me to know that you can draw a direct line from who he is today all the way back to that sixteen year old boy who watched his best friend bleed out. like it is the defining moment in his life. it fundamentally shaped who he is and the person he's become. he is the bernard we know and love not despite the grieves shooting but because of it. because the gangs all got together and shot up his school. because tim walked out of that room with nothing but a baseball bat. because his darla got shot. because he watched her gasp and cry as she died. because he watched the blood coagulate around the wound. because he sat there and held her hand as her life drained out of her. because he walked into school that day with a joke he knew would make her laugh and her nose would scrunch up and she'd snort a little and tim would roll his eyes at him and call him ridiculous and instead he walked out with a bloody white shirt, blood under his fingernails, and two friends less. because, even now, almost half a decade out from the shooting, he thinks that if he closes his eyes, he will always be that stupid, scared little sixteen year old, holding the cooling body of dead best friend.

"after what you've put me through here i deserve this" armand says about killing the crying, exhausted boy in his arms and it's not about a meal or cleaning up the mess, really, it's about how this boy's been brought to the edge of accepting death; he's right there, longing for it, and armand can give it. and while he gives it, he feels it too. armand has been drowning for centuries, but he keeps himself afloat this way, by tasting death and feeling just the smallest respite, chasing his victims' slowing heartbeats right down into the dark until he backs away at the last moment. "the comfort we all long for." the comfort armand longs for -- the end.

Sometimes I think about how absolutely beautiful it is that Claudia was able to have a Person who not only loved her for her and nothing else but someone who was completely separate from the vampire world that she was never truly happy in and as a result I look out my window with a pensive look like I’m in an indie drama film because oh god do I wish she could’ve had longer with her one and only but oh god how precious it was that it even happened in the first place…

if this post gets like…5000 notes I’ll actually start writing scripts/making storyboards for videos I’ve had ideas about for months
additionally if this gets to 10000 (which I highly doubt it will) I’ll actually work on my abandoned stories, book ideas, and poetry

armand just has suchhh a mentality of "if you would just let me help you everything would be ok…why won’t you let me help you!?” and its because like. nobody ever helped him. nobody ever saved him. and he clearly resents that fact and of course he would. but it also means that he holds his distorted idea of “help” to such a high regard in his head, ie "if somebody had just helped me and taken control when i couldnt it wouldve been ok" so in a way hes become a force of pure will and pure help and servitude through control in hopes that he can be the thing for others that he always wanted. someone powerful enough and "loving" enough to save him. but it isnt true that it wouldve fixed everything. you cant just will and wish away everyones problems. sometimes suffering happens despite everything. sometimes all you can do is stand by and try to offer support. but that just isnt how his brain works. the pain and terror that feeling out of control brings him is like all consuming. it triggers him badly and you can see that its all just a grasp to feel in control and safe and keep his loved ones safe but its just such a flawed and trauma-informed approach that the more he tries and the harder he holds the farther away louis gets from him and the more doomed their relationship becomes
