As a vampire, you had lived through quite a few decades already. Initially, it was a struggle for you to survive. You settled mostly for drinking animal blood, because the thought of hunting humans was terrifying and made you feel queasy. 

But over the years, you have settled into your nature. You figured out you could ‘ethically’ hunt, even find people that would willingly offer their blood to you. A bite didn’t turn a human, as they would like to think because of their stories. It was perfectly possible to hunt without any of the downsides, in certain cases a bite was actually more of a pleasurable experience. 

Today’s prey however, was proving to be a little more of a challenge. You had met him on a college campus and had an interesting conversation. He seemed only mildly interested in you, but you chalked it up to playing hard-to-get. His body language betrayed him and the rosy blush on his pale cheeks let you know that he was at the very least a little infatuated by you. The way he averted his eyes when you asked him to meet you that night was telling as well. You had gotten good at this over the years, picking out those that would eventually fold and let you have a few sips of their blood before never seeing them again. 

But he had left you waiting in the evening, something you weren’t really used to anymore. He seemed wary when he approached you too, and you knew you’d have to put in a little extra effort. You wanted him at ease, wanted him to consent when you finally popped the question. You didn’t want your hunt to be for naught. 

“So, Toshiro, any places around here that you like to frequent for a drink?”

He was quiet for a bit, seemingly thinking about an answer. When he did open his mouth to reply, he caught you off guard. 

“I don’t know, doesn’t your kind just take their dates into the forest for a drink?” 

He put such emphasis on the words ‘your kind’, but kept the rest of his tone so lighthearted, that you got a mental whiplash from just the one sentence. 

“Wh-what do you mean?” 

It was no use denying it, and you weren’t even sure just why you tried. The hunt was over, and you’d explain and ask for a bite anyway. You should’ve just come clean then and there. Sure, it wasn’t the way you usually let it build up, and sure, you would have preferred that he was more relaxed and happy in the moment you told him -increasing your chances of a positive reply-, but there was nothing wrong with him figuring it out. 

You spoke up before he could even reply. 

“I mean, I wanted to tell you at some point tonight, I don’t do the creepy forest vampire thing. I usually go out with potential targets, have a good time, and maybe if I’m lucky, ask them for a little nibble in the evening.” 

He raised a white brow, not even bothering to hide the skeptic look on his face. 

“You ask consent?” 

“yeah,” you shrugged, “you’d be surprised how many guys are actually into it. And it feels kind of nice in the right setting, or so I have been told.” 

He was quiet for a bit, overthinking what you said. He may have taken you off guard by confronting you, but he wasn’t prepared for your casual -yet honest- answer. He was not quite sure just how much of your reply he could trust. 

“So you really just want a date right now?” 

You nodded. 

“And if by the end of the night, I do not want to get bitten, then you’ll just let me leave?” 

You nodded again. He went silent once more and you were starting to feel awkward. He was cute, and you were definitely intrigued by him, but you were wondering if it was worth the hassle. The silence went on for what seemed like an hour, but in reality was probably only a couple more seconds. 

“Okay, let’s go then. I will have to disappoint you though, I don’t frequent bars. But I know a nice coffee shop not too far from here that has great cake.” 

You giggled, resisting the urge to make a joke about his small stature and the fact that he’d rather go have sweets than a drink. You figured he wouldn’t really appreciate it, and if you wanted your ‘hunt’ to be successful, you had to have him on your good side. 

“Sounds great, and then afterwards, you’ll be my dessert?” 

“We’ll see about that.”

I've fallen so hard for LOVEBITES over the last few months, and it's practically all I've listened to these last few weeks. I never thought I'd say that. I remember listening to their debut in 2017 and just, sort of, shrugging it off with a 'I don't get it' face. On top of that, I've never really been that big a fan of power metal either. But I LOVE this band. That ultra-fast paced songs combined with solos that feel eternal (in the best possible way), it's just so addictive and more-ish. Music to me often acts as an essential escapism, and their sound in particular (especially on live recordings) allows me to almost step into those solos and hide inside them. It is so enveloping and all encompassing, it allows me to escape so completely away from whatever is making me miserable in my life. As I watch/listen to the solos in their songs, I'm like 'just keep going', just keep going'. A full live show of theirs has the ability to remove me from being aware of... being. That's quite an achievement for any media these days, for me.

Tengen was talking to you, but you weren’t registering a single word he was saying. It’s not that you didn’t want to, it was just that you were suddenly distracted by the visuals more than the sounds. 

Vampires are beautiful. You weren’t exactly sure of how it worked, but vampires were all beautiful. Was it some kind of ancient magic? Some sort of spell? Beauty was subjective, of course, and not every vampire was as attractive as another, but you had yet to meet one that you thought was ugly. No matter their age, gender, presentation… all of them were beautiful. And you just happened to land the jackpot with your boyfriend, as you found him the most beautiful one of all. 

He was talking to you, probably sharing some story of something that had happened to him recently, but you were looking at his eyes, and how his reddish-pink irises were bright and shining as if he was trying to channel all the positive emotions from his story through them. You were looking straight into them for a while, earning a wink in return -but he did not cease his talking-, and you couldn’t help but smile as well. 

A smile was seemingly the right option, cause he didn’t notice that you weren’t paying attention at all, nodding as he continued his story, and you just studied his face some more. The bright makeup around his eyes moved along with his expressions, and it was a joy to see the red dots add emphasis to his every word. 

Right above his eyes were a few loose strands of white-silver hair that had escaped his loose ponytail. He claimed the silver was his natural hair color, even in his mortal life. You weren’t entirely sure if you believed him as he liked to embellish his stories, but it didn’t really matter. It was gorgeous, and you loved running your fingers through it. It was hard to resist doing so right now, but there was no way to do so without betraying that you were truly not paying attention at all, having to shift your positions too much, and possibly reaching over at a moment in his story that wasn’t appropriate. Maybe you could do so later, when you are unwinding, cuddling on the couch, as you end up doing so many nights. 

Finally you redirected your attention to his mouth. His lips, as they were moving to tell the story, grabbed your attention, as you wanted to do nothing more than press your own to them. They were usually soft and careful, as they placed kisses all over your neck right before he would feed on you, and soothe the painful spot right after. You couldn’t deny that you had grown to quite like the red tinge they had whenever he was done feeding, the slightest hint of a blush on his cheeks, and his lips covered in a beautiful red. He was gorgeous, and your train of thoughts was slowly but surely derailing. 

The finishing blow came when he laughed, and you laughed along because that’s what you do. You hoped your laugh was an appropriate one for the joke you made, but stopped in the middle of it as the light caught on his fangs just right and you felt your breath being taken away. Your stomach was trying to do all sort of acrobatics and you wondered how it was possible for one person to have such an effect on you, even after years of being together. 

His teeth were pearly white and the canines were noticeably bigger than those of a human. The first time he had asked if he was allowed to bite you, you had been overwhelmed and scared by the thought, and he had been ever so patient with you. Now feeding was a pleasurable experience for you both, and with the way you were currently distracted by his teeth, your mind started drifting too far, wondering if he’d drink tonight, wondering if he’d kiss it better, if he’d-

“Y/n.. ?” 

You snapped out of it, blinking a few times and physically shaking your head, as if the motion could get your thoughts rearranged and back in line. He chuckled in response, and you had to do your best not to get distracted all over again, desperately trying to keep your mind out of the gutter. All efforts seemed futile when he gently grabbed your chin, tilting your face so you had no other option but to look right at him. He leaned in so closely that you could feel his breath on your face, and your heart beat so wildly that it almost hurt. 

“Seems like you were distracted for a bit there, anything I can help you with?”
