Release: October 1, 1978
Lyrics:
Doing alright
A little jiving on a Saturday night
And come what may
Gonna dance the day away
Jenny was sweet
She always smiled for the people she'd meet
On trouble and strife
She had another way of looking at life
The news is blue (the news is blue)
Has its own way to get to you (ooh)
What can I do (what can I do?)
I'll not remember my time with you
Pick up your feet
You've got to move to the trick of the beat
There is no elite
Just take your place in the driver's seat
Driver's seat, ooh
Driver's seat, yeah
We're doing alright (ooh)
A little jiving on a Saturday night (yeah)
And come what may (ooh)
Gonna dance the day away (yeah)
Driver's seat, ooh
Driver's seat, yeah
Jenny was sweet (ooh)
There is no elite (yeah)
Pick up your feet (ooh)
Pick up, pick up (yeah)
Pick up your feet (ooh)
Gonna dance the day away (yeah)
Driver's seat, ooh
Driver's seat, yeah
Driver's seat, ooh
Driver's seat, yeah

Driver's seat
SongFacts:
"Driver's Seat" is a 1978 song by British band Sniff 'n' the Tears, appearing on their debut album Fickle Heart. The band is considered a one-hit wonder, as "Driver's Seat" was their only hit, except in the Netherlands, where they had a second top 40 single.
The song's genesis dates back to 1973, when Sniff 'n' The Tears recorded a demo tape for a French record label with singer/guitarist Paul Roberts, guitarists Laurence "Loz" Netto and Mick Dyche, and bassist Chris Birkin. The drummer Luigi Salvoni was a new addition after the breakup of Moon, the band he had been in. They bought the demo tape and signed to the small Chiswick label in 1977. Keith Miller played the Moog solo and also toured America with the band. Noel McCalla sang backing vocals.
According to Paul Roberts, "Driver's Seat" is not about driving, but rather about "fragmented, conflicting thoughts and feelings that might follow the breakdown of a relationship." One of the key decisions when arranging the song was to start with the drums and gradually introduce other instruments.
"Driver's Seat" reached number 15 on the US Billboard Pop Singles Chart[4] in the fall of 1979 and reached the top 10 in the Netherlands in November 1980.
In Canada, the song peaked at number 17 and was in the RPM Top 100 for 21 weeks.
A 12-inch version was released on A Best of Sniff 'n' the Tears in 1991. The song appeared at number one on the Dutch Top 40 charts that same year because it was used in a Pioneer commercial.

Retronaut Selects: Loz Netto - Loz Netto (1986)
Tumblr media
I first found out about Loz Netto from hearing him with Sniff 'n' the Tears.
I remember seeing this album at one of the record stores I shop at, but I never realized who it was until my last visit.
I was flipping through the records like I always do, and I noticed the Loz Netto album and I couldn’t believe that I never realized who it was.
I was so excited when I saw it because I never knew that he released a solo album.
My copy was sealed, and I opened it when I got home. I listened to it and it’s fantastic! It’s such an interesting album. The audio quality is excellent.
If you see a copy of this, don’t put it down.

"Driver's Seat" is a 1978 song by the British band Sniff 'n' the Tears that appears on their debut album, Fickle Heart.
The genesis of the song dates back to 1973 and a demo tape recorded for a French record label by singer/guitarist Paul Roberts for the band Ashes of Moon. However, that band broke up and, at the suggestion of drummer Luigi Salvoni, Roberts re-formed it as Sniff 'n' the Tears with guitarists Laurence "Loz" Netto and Mick Dyche and bassist Chris Birkin. They shopped the demo tape and signed with the small Chiswick label in 1977. Keith Miller played the Moog solo and also toured America with the band.

The Sharpeez pen a rhythm and blues masterclass
The Sharpeez pen a rhythm and blues masterclass
There is a good blend of styles in the lineage of The Sharpeez. In case you are new to them, leader Bill Mead was in a Mod/R’n’B band called Rebel, which was gigging with bands like The Stranglers in the musical melting pot of late 1979. Guitarist Loz Netto also has a history, as he was a founding member of Sniff ‘n’ The Tears around the same time. Fate drew them together and they have just…

LOZ NETTO - DANCE TO THE MUSIC
I don't always end up liking stuff I find in the bargain bin. This is one example. This song comes from Loz Netto's eponymous 1986 album. Apparently, this guy has continued to make music all these years. As well as recently writing some children's books. Anyway, the album's pretty boring. This was the best song on it.

"Just A Game" by Loz Netto (1982)
I found his debut album("BZAR") for $1 at a thrift store years ago. It's really grown on me. This brooding little new wave pop gem should've been a single.
Loz also played guitar in Sniff 'n' the Tears

Retronaut Jukebox: Riot Course
Retronaut Jukebox is back with our eighteenth installment!!
As you know, we feature cool songs from the past and the present.
This month we feature Loz Netto, Airbourne, Faces, Body Copy, Westworld, Starcrawler and more!!
For our latest feature, we feature the fantastic Riot Course, so read along to learn more about them and hear their tune, “Insecure”.
Tumblr media
I remember hearing about Riot Course after I saw some friends sharing that their first single "Insecure" was coming out, and being the music lover I am, I couldn't wait to hear this song.
This song is so cool. From the beginning of this song, you can hear it building up to something that you know is gonna be great. It starts out slow, and it builds up to what feels like an explosion and it effortlessly fades back into that buildup. This only works in a song when the song is really well written, and Riot Course have proved that they are amazing songwriters.
Lyrically, this song is very honest. It tells us a tale of forgetting toxic people. We always want to keep people in our lives, regardless of what they do to us because we want to be good people and forgive people...but the fact is, if someone wants to leave, let them go. In this song, it shows us that the protagonist is no longer insecure, but the antagonist is. Anyone who can't take the time to be honest with you isn't worth your time.
Listen to Riot Course, and close the door of what no longer benefits you. Certain doors have to close so other doors can open.
This single is absolutely stellar, and I can’t wait to hear their EP "Maybe I'll See You Next Year" which comes out on Saturday!
