I am in the process of unpacking boxes that have been packed for far, far, far too long after an old move and came across my copy of the graphic novel for The Kindly Ones and remembered not only that you signed it during a very very badly organized convention in New York in the 1990s* but that it saved me from being mugged** that same day. It brought back a whole slew of good memories of my life in the 90s and I wanted to thank you.

(*I think it was in 1996 or 1997; New York University's science-fiction club tried to host a convention that also served as a fundraiser for the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund and you were the GoH and were to give a speech. I remember Mike Diana, of Boiled Angel infamy, gave a small speech before yours and some of the people I was with were distinctly dismayed that someone other than you was speaking, but I remember being horrified by Mike's situation. You read Chivalry and one other story I don't remember, you said emphatically you would not do a signing, but did one anyway - and your silver pen died while you were singing my book, so I have your signature and a sketch of Dream in silver and gold.)

(**On the subway home, much later, after dinning and arguing with friends about Mike Diana's circumstances, I was in a virtually empty car and a guy basically pulled a knife on me and told me to give him my bag; I asked him if I could at least keep my ID and the signed copy of The Kindly Ones. He had a moment of geeking out over me having your autograph that delayed him from doing anything long enough for the train to pull in to the station and for someone to come into the empty car, see the guy with the knife, yell and make the mugger run.)

Someone just tried to use some of Neil Gaiman's horror writing to prove he has a "Dark Soul" because we "Write what we know."

This is un-related to what he has been accused of. This is about writing and writers.

Neil Gaiman was an eclectic writer. He wrote and writes horror, scifi, fantasy, and even books for toddlers.

One of his books is about a sneezy panda bear. In fact it's a whole preschool level book series. Does that mean he's a cute baby bear?

It doesn't matter if Neil Gaiman is innocent or guilty, don't ever pretend writing horror automatically makes you a bad peson.

No! No! No!

"What kind of person..."

What kind of person assumes everyone who writes bad things must be a bad person!?? Do you go down the horror section of the book store go "Mary Shelley must play with corpses." or "That Bram Stoker probably drinks human blood and is into necrophilia." or "I bet Stephen King lives in a sewer and lures down children with balloons and promises."

I don't want ANY "Person" in this group who thinks if you write something terrible you are terrible.

Do you believe Anne Rice was abducted by a vampire who was impressed by her killing a wolf pack?

Write what you know doesn't mean what you literally have done or every fantasy writer has been on acid and Tolkien was probably visiting another dimension.

"Write what you know" means what you can emotionally or psychologically relate to. That doesn't mean horror writers agree with their killers and monsters. It means they know the pain of loss, or have been very afraid, or experienced terrible physical pain. The sensations described, the emotions of the victims, that's writing what you know.

What you said creeped me out because long ago I was playing Dracula on IMVU.

I think I was fairly good at it, I incorporated the Vlad the Impaler backstory that is popular in pop culture and hinted at in the novel (though only added at the last minute). One day on the IMDB forums, while discussing role play a girl who plays another vampire actually posted with "I don't think anyone should play a vampire unless they've actually experienced killing a person because you should write what you know."

It may have been trolling but since she, herself, played a vampire it made everyone very uneasy.

Gary Oldman has never murdered anyone, nor has Luke Evans. The guy playing Lestat in the Interview with the vampire TV show has probably never killed anyone. And I'm pretty sure Angelina Jolie never cursed a real baby.

Write what you know has to do with emotional or psychological connection- the ability for empathy, and realism. It's not about only writing what you have specifically experienced. If that's the only thing anyone wrote- we'd never have The Wizard of Oz, we'd never have Wonderland, we'd never have Narnia, we'd never have Middle Earth. Those places aren't real. Tolkien had never met a Hobbit or elf.

I am going to take your post down in ten minutes because YOYU f--king scare me. And anyone else who thinks "Well, he wrote this so that must mean..."

Pat Benatar Wrote "Hell is for Children" an anti-chid abuse anthem that was mistaken as Satanic and pro-Child abuse. Anne Rice wrote Tale of the body thief from the POV of a male, bisexual, vampire with two sex scenes. I'm pretty sure Anne Rice didn't have an anatomical penis.

I've Role played on IMVU as several canon characters and OC (Original characters). I've played Count Dracula, Heinrich Faust, The Frankenstein monster, Jareth from Labyrinth, The Vampire Lestat, Abe Sapien from Hellboy, Lucifer from The Sandman, Morpheus from The Sandman, Loki from Marvel, and several others. I have never killed anyone. I have never sold my soul. I cannot shapeshift.

I can describe these things because I have an imagination. I know my own fears and anxieties. I know descriptions from other authors. I have seen scenes depicted in movies, books, and TV shows. You just have to be creative and detailed and it can look like you know what fifteenth century Wallachia was like or sixteenth century Germany, or nineteenth century New Orleans. I wasn't in any of these places but I know what they looked and even smelt like from books and deduction from my own creative mind.

Write what you know doesn't mean Ray Bradbury had an evil Carnival or Walter Tevis was really a martian, you know.

I've found the best characters for my AEW/WWE Fan-Fiction stories, I got the main boys from the Vampire Diaries and the Originals, and got the three married wives and a former girlfriend turned friend.

We know that most of the wrestlers here will be faces or heels, but I want them as the baddest bosses while the good guys are gonna be portrayed as sixteen newcomers who's shorter.

I figured that modern day of straight history meets attitude era for their bad influence; my sixteen OCs doesn't care for the rules and are the most rebellious people in WWE.

This takes place from SummerSlam 2012 for the Fallen Angels and their first victory in Night of Champions: Gold Rush; Survivor Series 2012 for the Shield and their first victory in TLC; Royal Rumble 2013 for the Dark Gods and their first victory in Elimination Chamber; WrestleMania 29 for the Resistance and their first victory in Extreme Rules; they're known as the Pack of Lone Wolves.

first born of miranda scott and colin davis. he was a shock to his parents who had decided to not have kids in order to protect miranda's identity as a witch from colin's family who wanted to keep their family's blood pure. despite this his mother and father loved lucas more than anything. it was only as he got older and starter exhibiting magic and another pregnancy that his mother made the decision to run.

miranda took lucas to live in a small village on the border of england and wales where her family were from to keep them from his fathers family. his mother went into labour on the lounge floor and lucas called for the ambulance. while his mother was still asleep,lucas snuck into the room to see his little sister and from that moment he knew he would do anything to protect her.

he had a happy upbringing and when he reached his teen years, his mother relocated them to belgian so lucas could attend the school for supernaturally gifted students.

there he met josie saltzmand and the pair had a whirlwind romance and were soon married and welcoming a son. lucas' life was perfect, until josie found her father dead.

he supported josie throught the loss the best he could, until a hit and run landed luke in the hospital. after a surgery on an abdominal injury, a broken arm and a mild concussion, he was sent home to recover.

two weeks after the accident, and on blood thinners due to his lack of ability to move a lot, he suffered a stroke and died in bed, with their son in his arms while josie had popped out.

his love for josie and the baby kept him tethered to the living world and he wandered in limbo for years trying to let go. eventually he was ready to move on but as he moved towards the afterlife, he awoke in the living world.

he is struggling with being alive again and wants to find his son and josie but knows deep down his son grew up with another dad.

Beauty and the Beast is a 2017 film directed by Bill Condon.

Written by Evan Spiliotopoulos and Stephen Chbosky, the film is a live action remake of the 1991 animated film of the same name, based on the fairy tale by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont. The film stars an ensemble cast that includes Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Luke Evans, Kevin Kline, Josh Gad, Ewan McGregor, Stanley Tucci, Ian McKellen and Emma Thompson.

It is the first Disney film in which an openly homosexual character appears: it is Le Fou, played by Josh Gad.

Alsace, 18th century. One winter evening, during a ball, an elderly beggar woman arrives at the castle and, to put the prince to the test, offers him a rose in exchange for hospitality. The prince refuses and the spell acts on all the prince's villages, whose citizens forget the existence of the castle and its inhabitants as if they had never existed. The castle thus remain isolated in the forest, in a sort of perpetual winter and space out of time. Before leaving, the sorceress leaves her rose to the Beast, which begins to wither: if the prince manages to love and be loved in turn before the flower loses the last petal, the spell will be broken, otherwise the magic will become eternal.

Years later, in Villeneuve, a village not far from the castle, a beautiful young girl named Belle lives there with her artist father, Maurice. Captain Gaston, a hunter, as well as the richest and most coveted bachelor among the women of the village but very arrogant and cynical, would like to marry Belle, believing that only his attractiveness is enough to convince the young woman to marry him. While a storm breaks out, Maurice is attacked by a pack of gray wolves, but still manages to escape the beasts, taking refuge in the Beast's castle surrounded by the abnormal winter climate. Immediately after hearing one of the objects speak, Maurice runs away in fear, but before leaving the gate he stops to pick a rose from the garden - Belle had in fact asked him for one as a gift for the journey.

After an initial escape attempt, Belle is welcomed by the castle's servants transformed into objects: Lumière the candlestick, Cogsworth the clock and Mrs. Potts the teapot.
