Hi Naff! Loving the Orca!Eclipse content you’ve been putting out <3 I’ve got a line from your fic that’s been living especially rent free in my head for a while:

“You need to be good.” Eclipse calls over the wind, “I will chase you to the ends of the earth.”

This has got me thinking, considering this is quite the promise (threat)! How does Eclipse handle warmer climates, assuming he’s left the arctic before? Does he migrate? Does he like to travel? Is he even aware of what the world is like outside of the bitter cold?

I was hounded by thoughts of poor Y/N somehow escaping to a tropical island, and they dip their feet into the ocean only for Eclipse to pop up like “heyyyyy”

Our boy does not migrate but he is more than willing to leave his waters to hunt down his precious little quarry. He can handle warm climates! He prefers the cold by virtue of his physical design but warmer waters wouldn't bother him too much. He's never been outside of the Arctic Sea, so it would be quite an experience salted by his fleeing birdie.

Oh, that's just how it would go, with a bit of grabbing piled on top of that. He means everything he says—including his promises (threats.)

Hey Naff, hope you’ve been taking care of yourself and resting up <3 Since it’s Mermay, I’ve been doing some thinking about Mayday In Paradise! I’m curious to know what Sun, Moon, and Y/N’s second interaction is like. Does Y/N ever brave the ocean again? Is the next encounter with the mers more peaceful and relaxed? Do they end up developing a relationship in time? I’ve been wondering how the latter would work out when Y/N has to head back home, no doubt with the two lovely mers on their mind! And I’m sure it’s a stone’s throw chance of happening, but I wonder if Sun and Moon would find a way to track down Y/N to make sure they’re being good to themself. ♥️ (And totally not because they’re developing other additional feelings for them!)

This AU is just so soft and sweet and makes me smile thinking about it 💜 Hope you have a good and restful break!

Ah, I'm really happy you thought of this little one-off! It's very fitting for this month hehe

They meet again after Y/N decides to reencounter them, because what else will they do on this 2 week-long vacation but think about the two mermen that saved them? and also told them to be nice and good.

The funny thing is that I envisioned Y/N deciding to never go back 'home', not to work, and not even to see Vanessa, though they keep in contact with her. They're so inspired in that short time by Sun and Moon that they decide to start living a life they enjoy. That begins by standing on the tropical island, although that means a drastic shift in things, like quitting their job. They need to find a new gig, and a place to live that's definitely not going to be as nice and fancy as the beach house rental, but all they really care about is that their little shabby new house is right on the ocean and close enough to find Sun and Moon.

Sun and Moon have no idea that Y/N makes this choice, only that they're still here. Which is good, they need more time with this little human who has a very askew view of themselves. Totally not related, but Sun and Moon do find Y/N enchanting.

The second encounter is more peaceful. Y/N dares to swim out a good depth, choosing to ditch any vessels and going as far as they can before Sun pops up to greet them. Y/N is still uncertain, but they remember to be nice and kindly ask if Sun will help them back to shore. Sun finds it amusing: "If I didn't know better, sunshine, I'd almost think you tired yourself out on purpose just so I could float you back to shore. Hm. That would be silly, wouldn't it, friend? If you wanted to see me again, all you have to do is ask." He'll, however, let it slide since they're being so polite this time.

Y/N is a bit more desperate that night and ventures out once more but almost steps on a stingray lying in the swallows which Moon must shove them out of the way of. Needless to say, he's not happy about needing to do that in the first place. Humans should not swim in the ocean in the dark. Moon makes it clear they're not to do that again without him here. "I'm not the only thing in the water who gets hungry at night." He trusts that will Y/N be good about his little warning.

The first time Sun calls Y/N beautiful, it doesn't go well, mainly because Y/N thinks Sun is being mean and gets really hurt by this 'mean-spirited' conversation which only confuses Sun until he realizes that, oh, this goes way deeper than he initially thought. He's not going to stand swim for that.

Moon is a bit blunter about Y/N's lack of self-esteem and gets to work reminding them to not talk about themselves like that or get stuck in their head as often as they do, which may or may not involve splashes of salt water to the face, but hey, whatever works :)

He smoothly does the bottom button of your shirt. You swear his grin grows fiendish as you stare down. You can't look away, watching his large hands act deceptively nimble as he does each button, metallic knuckles brushing against your stomach, then over your sternum, climbing to your throat where he tugs on the collar.

What Eclipse says to vigilante: You’re mine to spoil myself with. *cue seductive saxophone music*

What I now can’t help but hear him saying instead: Look, there’s only enough room for ONE of us to be whores, and sorry not sorry, but I’m not about to lose that title to anyone >:(

Babe, you know the vigilante is going to have a field day with that very idea if it wasn't for Eclipse pffft! The vigilante would love to taunt about looking better, but be a bit skittish about Eclipse actually wanting them to put their money where their mouth is.

Vigilante!Y/N: Scared of a little competition? Mafia Boss!Eclipse: If you insist on having your shirt undone, it will only be for my eyes. Vigilante!Y/N: On second thought, I better not stun you too much. Truly, it would overwhelm your wires and I am so gracious and merciful to spare you. Mafia Boss!Eclipse: *wicked grin* I will be the judge of that when we're alone, sweetheart.

Eating up your response to my previous ask, so here's a follow-up: How would the events of Trouble play out in that AU? Going to Sun and Moon seems dangerous, not just because of their location but also their affiliation. So I'm assuming it would depend on if/how much the vigilante trusts them at that point. What do they end up doing in that scenario? Would that also be the first time they kiss Moon and Sun? 👀

In this case, the vigilante wouldn't find it safe to seek out Sun and Moon in the heart of Eclipse's hideout, so they flee to one of their safe houses. They try to take care of their injuries alone. That goes about as well as you'd expect.

After news breaks in the underworld about a deadly shootout and the vigilante missing, Sun and Moon are worried out of their minds and immediately seek out Y/N. Eclipse is, of course, concerned but refuses to believe the vigilante is dead and conducts his own search for Y/N, but Sun and Moon beat him to it and uncover Y/N's safe house. Sun and Moon used the gang's resources to make this happen, so it doesn't exactly fit right with the two, but it allowed them to find Y/N bleeding out in a crummy hiding spot, so, they'll deal with that internal conflict later.

The vigilante is quietly touched by Sun's and Moon's dedication to finding them and making sure they're okay. ("Oh, you don't have to tell me that you missed me, boys. I know.") There's a kiss for Sun and there's a kiss for Moon ♥

They try to persuade Y/N to let them take them to their brother's business where they have better medical supplies and can treat their wounds, but Y/N adamantly refuses, (partly out of fear of being caught by Eclipse and partly out of fear that Sun and Moon are lying and intend to take them to a hospital.) Frazzled and fearing how pale Y/N is looking, Sun ventures back to Eclipse's gang for medical supplies while Moon stays with Y/N, attempting to find some clean place to begin addressing their wounds. Sun comes up with a decent story to tell Eclipse's goons and gets the supplies. Then later, when infection sets in, Moon uses the gang's resources to get the medicine to treat Y/N.

The secret affairs get back to Eclipse, but by that point, he can't find his brothers. Sun and Moon have been doing their best to conceal Y/N's presence (and budding relationship) from their older brother, the mob boss, but Eclipse puts it together immediately that the vigilante is being cared for—he's just not happy that Y/N didn't come to him in the first place and spare his brothers some trouble, but that's what the vigilante's always been.

Eclipse, however, finds this information interesting as not only did his brothers use his gang's resources when they'd been so unwilling to before, but the vigilante is allowing his brothers to tend to them. That's trust that can't be bought, forced, or persuaded. That's actions that were compelled by something greater than ideals.

Whatever effect the vigilante is having on his brothers, his brothers are having the same effect on the vigilante, too. He finds that very interesting.

If his brothers want the vigilante, Eclipse is more than willing to give them what they want. Eclipse will take what he wants, too.

Haunting your inbox again with another question about a sleuthing jesters series :)

In No Small Favor, I’ve always been curious about a few things. How quickly did word spread in the underworld about Moon getting shot? I’ve been thinking about that one mini drabble you wrote about how Eclipse would patch up Sun if someone nearly destroyed him to earn the mob boss’ favor. So did he plan to intervene before Moon’s condition became irreversible? (Though that begs the question of what really would be considered irreversible, and Sun did go for awhile without a working celestial wire at the end of the series.)

Also, what was Eclipse’s reaction when his goons passed on word that the vigilante was asking for him? Did he actually think they were considering joining him, or had he already put two and two together that they were looking for him on behalf of Moon? If it’s that latter, I could see how he might view that as an opportunity to kill two birds with one stone: save Moon and get the vigilante in his debt.

One more thing! Is Balloon World considered his domain, or is it just a general seedy area where mobsters can use the back rooms as they want?

Never mind, I just thought of one more question djjflskdkd XD Did you ever have any lore/ideas about DJ Music Man’s role/character in the series? I know he doesn’t show up in it, but I wondered if you had some notes or thoughts about his interactions and relations/dealings with the underworld.

Eclipse was aware that Moon had been injured—what he wasn't aware of was the extent of his injuries. He knew Sun would tend to their brother, but as the days passed, Eclipse would have grown more aware of their absence and would have investigated himself if the vigilante hadn't intervened. (Celestial wires ceasing to function for long periods of can lead to permanent damage even after being fixed/replaced. Much like falling into a coma, it can be very difficult for an animatronic to power back on after a long period of inactivity.)

Eclipse was certain the vigilante had finally begun to see things his way (it was inevitable, and this is the easy way for them) so that's why he's a bit, ah, displeased when he realizes the vigilante is asking about a celestial wire. At the same time, he understood that Moon is not actually okay, but Eclipse did not miss the opportunity sitting in his lap trying their best to look pretty and not afraid. He's more than willing to kill two birds with one stone, and he did.

Balloon World is a personal favorite hangout of his, and more or less somewhere you don't want to go if you don't want to run into the mob boss himself. He doesn't own it in the traditional sense, but it is his place that's kept under wraps.

Ah! I never did touch on Music Man but he's got a little story! He's the head of a rather lucrative underground operation, though less powerful than Eclipse, but he handles his gang wisely and is able to successfully and discretely laundry money via his club and a separate recording studio as fronts for his illegal business of trafficking weapons. He's on pretty good terms with a lot of gangs and knows to not cross wires as a supplier. My design for him is that he's humanoid but fairly large, on par with Eclipse's height except that he has six arms instead of the regular two. Music Man is mistaken for a simple-minded weapons dealer but he is very strategic in all aspects of his work; he will effectively remove the problem of your existence if you happen to interfere with his smoothly running operations. (He can also play a mean guitar.)

The vigilante found out his real name through some bribes and, uh, more persuasive violent means and would have liked to have gone after him, but other events took up their attention.

Hi, Naff! Hope you’re having a lovely day <3 So in a completely unusual turn of events, I was thinking about Sleuth Jesters again (shocking, I know). And as someone who personally can’t write major character death scenes but can occasionally read them, I’ve had a deep appreciation for how you handled that in Fire on Fire. Which prompted me to wonder what would have happened if Moon had insisted on being the one to take Eclipse’s celestial wire after all. Would he have been able to actually follow through on that?

I’ve just been thinking so much about Moon struggling with what he knows he has to do, and it’s like he’s being torn in two having to say goodbye to his brother like this. It feels like it’d be poetic if he realized he couldn’t bring himself to do it, until maybe Eclipse took Moon’s hand in his own and then silently wrapped both their hands around his celestial wire while staring up at him. Big brother fixing one last mistake if it means saving his family, broken as they are.

But maybe not without one last reminder that the vigilante is his. You know, for consistency’s sake, of course.

Oh, what an angsty thought! It would happen pretty much as you described. The Vigilante would try to walk past Moon but he'd stop them, and tell them to stay with Sun.

This is Eclipse. He has to face him, even if it's impossible.

Moon would try, he would try so hard, but when he's looking down at his brother trapped in the flames, it's Eclipse who guides him to the celestial wire in his chassis, because he knows Moonie. Despite his anger, and his darker tendencies, Moonie still sees big brother.

Eclipse knows Sunny is waiting on this. It's what will bring him back after Eclipse sent him away. It's not what he wanted, so he'll fix it. He'll do one last job for his brothers.

But even as Moon prepares to tear it free, with Eclipse's hands wrapped over his, Eclipse spits out a static-filled rasp.

"They're mine."

That's what gives Moon the strength to wrench out the celestial wire.

I feel like I might have had the wrong reaction to “The Lost Episode” because the whole time, I was just like:

Also, I have a bit of a research question for SJ for reasons 👀 I might have missed it while reading the series, but is there a time estimate for how long it took Moon and Sun to join the police academy after they left the daycare and Eclipse began running around with gangs? And when would you say Eclipse rose to power and became a mob boss? Were Sun and Moon detectives by that point or still a lower rank?

Typing that out just made me curious about how Eclipse did become a mob boss and how he got a gang, and I’m restraining myself from sending you a bunch of lore questions. So I’ll just imagine him sending out fliers with his face printed on them and a caption that promises a competitive base salary. Just ignore the super fine small print that says there are no health benefits with this job

Okay, I'm really bad with timelines and dates so I'll try my best to keep this coherent and hopefully non-contradictory with the main storyline!

15 years after the boys left the daycare, Sun and Moon were finally able to join the police academy while Eclipse was digging deeper into gang activity. Now mind you, Sun and Moon were attempting to join the academy much earlier, but due to politics and human-animatronic relations still being tense despite animatronics being legally recognized as individuals with rights, they were discriminatorily barred from joining the program. It took Eclipse calling in favors, owing a favor or two himself, and offering a lot of bribes to those in charge of the program to get Sun and Moon in. At that current time, Eclipse was climbing the ranks. He was gaining a reputation and a name for himself, but he was still a thug working under someone else's command.

Eclipse didn't control his own gang until after Sun and Moon were detectives and after the Afton Family's fall, but by then, the brothers weren't in contact with each other. Learning that big brother was a crime lord was something the detectives discovered in their work. It was disappointing, but not surprising—just a lot to think about piled on top of everything else.

Fun fact! Eclipse killed his gang leader and took the man's gang for himself. It happened after he learned the crime lord was conspiring against him (funny enough, this was due to others looking towards and being loyal to Eclipse due to his ruthlessness and efficiency, which spooked the gang leader so he thought it would be wise to act preemptively, but ah, Eclipse was not amused to see his loyalty repaid with betrayal.) Eclipse had no qualms with reigning in control and very little resisted his takeover. Eclipse did take care of those who stay loyal to him, but he ran a tight ship. Great risk, great reward.

Wow, sorry, I just went on a ramble there, but I hope that helps answer your questions! But you're absolutely right, there are no health benefits in Eclipse's gang. *Shrek voice* They don't even have dental.

I’m not sure how up north cryptid hunter!Y/N and their boys get to travel, but if they got up far enough in snowy territory, how might they react to the northern lights? Have Sun/Moon ever seen them before, or has Y/N? Would they get to enjoy watching the light display together, or would they be interrupted by a hunt? Or could it perhaps be a bit of a date between Y/N and their boys? <3

I’ve just been thinking about soft kisses being exchanged in between gazing upon the aurora borealis and them cuddling each other (just to keep warm, of course).

Sun/Moon have seen the northern lights before! They've been around the block a few times, so natural wonders in the world are things they've witnessed. Y/N, however, hasn't!

I've been itching to do a yeti episode but I couldn't work it in with the fall season that the story takes place in, but I'm hoping I can do a one-shot after the main fic is completed! It would be so fun to have a night out in a snowy terrain with the aurora borealis dancing above their heads as Y/N snuggles closer to the boys in the brisk cold. It would be a date interrupted or maybe postpone.

Perhaps there's also an incident where Y/N falls through some ice into freezing water while chasing the yeti and the boys have to quickly find a way to fish them out and then warm them up despite their naturally colder body temperature, but it would end with getting back to what they were in the middle of—enjoying each other's company and the lights (and getting and giving a smooch or two). ♥

Oh my gosh I’m having a moment about the ask about Eclipse patching Sun up. Because the implication is that he hasn’t just had spare parts for himself on hand…. He’s also had spare parts for Sun too (and perhaps also Moon). Like after all this time, he’s been prepared and waiting for them to come home to him when they need to and oh no, I am not emotionally okay at all now 😭♥️

Okay but I think it would be funny if he used the opportunity to add one of his own spare rays to Sun. Just a little splash of indigo or purple that’s waiting for Sun to see when he finally finds a mirror
