Ok, so I actually started writing a bit of What the Tide Keeps, but then let myself finish this doodle of Sun being silly when getting treatment for his sunburns. You know, for the serotonin.

Song Fish Amid the Stars
Chapter 1: Lagoon
FNAF Mermaid!Sun & Mermaid!Moon x Reader (SFW)
A pang hits your heart, going out to the little fish struggling to escape the cruel and entrapping lagoon. But they look like mers. Sea monsters.
Word Count: 11,000~ Warnings: Phobias, slight injury, and anxiety.
A/N: This is for MerMay but in July. Over a year later, I'm finally getting to that little sequel to In Deep Dreams Between the Waves! I recommend reading that fic first as it will provide a lot of lore/backstory for things that will occur in this fic (and it includes some fishy Eclipse goodness.) I'm very excited to share this continuation! I'm a little (read: terribly) obsessed with mermaids and I adore the DCA, so what's better than two mer DCAs?
Again, I'm planning on five chapters with pretty lengthy word counts for each. Let's see if I can stick to my outline.
I hope you enjoy!

Early Mermay story idea that haunts my mind and that I may write later: Y/N is an aspiring musician, but has no means to study what they love most. They grow bitter as time passes and they are unable to share the melodies from their mind with the world, incapable of conveying them through an instrument properly. Folk stories say that the ocean grants your wishes if you ask it politely and respectfully. Ambitious aspirations were a dangerous thing. Even worse when coupled with a passion and a promise.
On a stormy night, Y/N whispered their wish to the seas, and the sea eagerly answered their prayers. Three celestial Mers presented themselves and offered Y/N a deal, they will teach them the sacred secrets of their mystical song and their music, giving them all the knowledge that they possess, three main aspects of siren music. Sun offered the Music of Joy and the ability to sway the human hearts with pure euphoria, Moon offered the Music of Sorrow, capable of making even the cruelest of men weep, and Eclipse offered the Music of Divine Madness, capable of ensnaring the mind of all those who hear it and bathing it in deranged ecstasy. However, there is a price to be paid for such a service, a promise written in blood and tears.
The very moment Y/N touches the hearts of many with their melodies, when their dream finally comes true and the world swoons from their music, in that moment their freedom would be forfeit, and they would belong to the celestial Mers for all eternity. As time runs out, Y/N tries to self-sabotage their concerts to avoid fulfilling the terms of their contract, but Sun, Moon and Eclipse are equally determinted to get Y/N.
And so, on the stages of many theatres across the world, Y/N sees glimpses of familiar devils in the audience, the windows appear as if there is ocean water outside, the mirrors reflect the dark seas, cackles are heard in each dark corridor, the sound of waves always there. Deciding to take their fate in their own hands, Y/N will have to summon their own inner Joy, Sorrow and Divine Madness to buy their freedom back, and hopefully this will impress the celestial Mers enough to set them free of their debt.

Based on @pure-plum’s prompt: First gifts between Sun, Moon, and the diver.
(I also want to do that other prompt, but haven’t gotten to it 👀)
What the Tide Keeps AU, Moon-centric
word count: 1,984
You have a shelf in your apartment dedicated to the growing collection of gifts Sun has given you. A few tiny, beautiful shells he’d managed to save when they washed into his enclosure with the tide. The long, pristine flight feathers of a seagull that had gotten a little too close to the surface of the water. Then, once he’d been able to get out into open water they’d evolved. Bits of sun-bleached coral, sparking sea glass, and even a single, gleaming pearl that he’d presented to you with a look of deepest adoration.
They all sit neatly arranged, along with an over-exposed polaroid selfie you’d taken with the golden mer. It makes you smile every time you see it.
Another shelf sits blank on the other side of your bed, save for a blurry photo of your other charge taken from above, swimming through a patch of fading sunlight. Moon hasn’t seemed interested in gift-giving the way Sun is, but you feel like it’d be favoritism not to have a place for him here, the way you do his counterpart.
That’s not to say there hasn’t been progress. Moon has come a long way from the snarling, snapping creature that you’d first met. He seems to trust you now, at least. Well, for the most part. He still has a tendancy to shy away from your touch, outside of medical care, which he holds himself ridigly still for in a way that makes your heart clench in mourning for the abuse he and Sun have had ot endure.
He doens’t seem to have a probem touching you, on the other hand. Quite the opposite. Which is why you’re currently pinned under the heavy length of a rough, shark-like tail drapped over your lap, with a blue-black and silver arm wrapped around your middle, trapping your arms down at your sides. Moon has your back pressed snug against his chest and his chin resting against the top of your head, a low, constant sound somewhere between a purr and a growl vibrating his chest. You strain your neck trying to catch a glimpse at his expression. His ruby eyes are narrowed into thin, sleepy slits but you can see that his pupils are angled away from you. Well, until he senses you staring at him. Then, he glares at you with a grumble and his maw opens in a wide yawn, showing off his dual rows of razor-sharp shark teeth. He presses his chin into your hair, forcing you to look down and away from his face. You give in with a good humored huff. Best not to push your luck with him.
It’s an hour past sunrise, long past his usual bedtime. Sun has made himself comfortable on his usual flat rock near the shore of the cove, warming himself in the first golden rays of morning. You fight the urge to stroke Moon’s tail where it rests over your lap (making your legs fall asleep more every minute, but you allow it), knowing that, unlike Sun’s smoothe scales, Moon’s rough skin would cut up your hands like sandpaper. Instead, you lean your head back against him and hum softly.
“ You’re up pretty late, Moonshine. Something on your mind?”
He gives no indication that he heard you. That’s okay. You know to be patient with him.
It’s another several minutes before he responds at all, and even then it’s not with words. He shifts with arm holding you up to your shoulder, flopping backwards and taking you down with him, rolling onto his side in the sand and curling around you with a deep sigh that he muffles in your hair. His other hand in pressed in a fist against the sand, stretched out in front of the two of you.
You chuckle and pat the arm holding you in a steel trap against the midnight mer.
“Moon, honey, as cozy as this is you really shouldn’t fall asleep out of the water like this. We don’t want you getting any more sunburns.”
You keep your voice playful, but there’s an underlying concern you don’t fully manage to mask. It’s hard not to think about the weeks of painful treatment he and Sun had had to endure for the blistering sunburns they’d suffered. Moon’s had been worse by far, being a creature not meant for hours of prolonged sun exposure like his counterpart. There are still scars healing on his shoulders and back, months later.
Moon grumbles and coils closer over you, his tail fin slapping the water where it rests in an agitation you don’t understand the cause for.
“Hush,” he rasps into your hair, claws plucking thoughtlessly at the collar of your shirt in a familiar, resltess fidget.
Your brow furrows. Something is clearly bothering him, but what? You’d thought the night had gone really well, actually. From the time you’d shown up at midnight to now Moon had seemed to be in a remarkably good mood, relaxed and playful (meaning you’d gotten yanked into the water more than a couple of times, but hearing his hissing laughter had been well worth it). It wasn’t until shortly before sunrise, when he’d usually be curling up in a shaded part of the cove over a bed of soft sea grass, that he’d started acting agitated. He wouldn’t look you in the eyes, even though he became especially clingy. And while his verbal responses were usually pretty short and clipped, certianly less verbose than Sun, even that had been reduced to only one or two word replies, when he deigned to reply with words at all. He didn’t seem to be mad at you, but his sudden withdrawl is making you nervous none the less. Had you done something wrong?
You debate with yourself which is better: to relent and indulge whatever mood this is for a while longer, or to gently encourage him to talk. You don’t want to push him too much, but if you don’t nudge him now and then you don’t know if he’ll progress.
You decide to push, just a little.
You stretch your hand out towards the fist he has extended from you two and press your fingertips featherlight against the underside of his wrist in gentle encouragement.
“Moon?”
In a blink, his hand captures yours, one finger and his thumb pressing the back of your hand into the sand while the other two fingers stay curled closed. You feel the sharp edge of soemthing in his hand pressing into your palm, just barely, but you can’t focus on it for long because Moon cranes his head down and nips at your ear, sharp teeth barely scraping your skin but the clipped snap of his teeth right by your ear making you yelp anyways.
“M-Moon!”
His gravelly chuckle cast moist, salt-scented breath over your ear and blood rushes to your cheeks in a furious burn. You grumble, indignant and embarassed but secretly relieved to hear his laughter.
“That was entirely unncessary.”
“Pushy. Nosy.” His voice is a teasing purr nuzzled against the side of your head, despite his words, and he unfurls the rest of his fingers to lace his with yours, his much larger webbed hand dwarfing yours and completely obscuring the small object he presses into your palm as he drags your joined hands through the sand closer to you both.
You bite your tongue to keep from sputtering at the onslaught of unexpected affection, but you can feel your face heating more. You squeeze his hand, feeling the edges of the thing in your palm. It’s sharp, and feels triangular.
“Only a little. I was woried about you, you giant fishstick,” you huff, but the smile is audible in your voice.
Moon’s answering laugh is a raspy wheeze and you yelp, flailing a bit, as he rolls over so he’s on his back again and you’re laying right on top of him, held fast by his unrelenting grip over your waist. He grins up at you with a bear-trap maw and mischief in his sleepy crimson eyes.
You rest your chin on his chest and squint at him in suspicion.
“Whatcha got here,” you ask, giving the hand he still has entwined with his own a little shake.
His smile strains a bit at the edges, but he presses the mystery object into your palm and slide his hand away from your’s, looping it around your waist to join his other arm. His eyes soften looking at you, pupils fading until they’re almost indistinguishable from the brighter red of the rest of his eye.
“For you,” he says, blinking slowly and a little out of synch. You feel the corner of your mouth twitch into a smile at how cute his sleepy expression is before you register what he actually said.
You wrap your fingers around the little object and pull it close to inspect it. “For me?”
In your palm is a sharp, pearly shark tooth, curved and perfect and familiar. You glance back up at Moon and he flashes you a grin full of two rows of the very same kind of teeth. You mouth pops open in a little ‘o’ of surprise, lookign back and forth between the tooth in your hand and his face.
“A gift,” he expalins, and the claws on your back fidget, betraying his quiet anxiety.
You run your thumb over the smoothe, shiny surface of the tooth, admiring it. “This is one of your’s?”
Claws gently tap against your spine, and he nods, watching your reaction. You don’t need to play it up at all. You beam up at him in pure, honest delight, clasping the tooth close to your chest.
“It’s beautiful! Thank you, Moonshine.”
He only grumbles, looking away from you, but you see the way the white frills that frame his face perk up and shiver in delight, and you can hear the water stirr at the twitch of his tail fin.
Without warning, Moon shifts his grip on you and slide you off of him and into the sand, flipping so that he’s looming over you, the nightcap-like appendage on the back of his head draping over his shoulder and swaying next to your cheek with a faint glow. He grins down at you and chuckles at your surprised expression before reaching a clawed finger up and bopping you on the tip of the nose with it.
“It’s time to sleep,” he hums,  tilting his head to-and-fro so that the bulb on his appendage taps you on the cheek with each movement. You playfully bat it away and he grins.
“Nighty night, Moon.” You smile up at him, clutching his gift close to your chest.
His expression upturns and he taps his forehead against your’s (a first, and it makes your mind blue screen for a solid minute) before leaning away and pulling himself back into the water. He lashes his tail fin as he turns to go, spraying you with a splash of salt water. You sptter and toss a handful of sand after him, but you can’t stiffle your laughter. The tooth feels warm in your hand.
That night when you’re crawling into bed you glance over at the shelves you have set aside for your mers. Sun’s little treasure trove of carefully, lovingly selected gifts almost crowd out his shelf, and you heart swells with warmth and appreciation as you realize you may need to put up another shelf for his gifts. On the other side is Moon’s shelf, and sitting right in the center, right in front of the photo of him, is one of his own teeth. He’s never been much for gift-giving, for finding just the right trinkets to show his affection. But this was something of his, only his, and he gave it to you.
You fall asleep with the stupidest smile on your face.

_____________________________________
You wake up on the middle of the beach. A little way back is your house. It's night and you're drenched in water. With the frigid feeling through your skin you could only assume you had been literally whisked away by someone over the waters. Everything was so confusing, and now you looked towards the sea just to see those deep purple eyes staring at you. All the flippers on his head were glowing blue. You knew that meant Eclipse was sad or worried about something.
You sighed and slowly stood up, the sand muffling your footsteps and you walked to where the waves break. You stopped right there still looking at the gigantic baby, and called him with your hands. Eclipse, still feeling guilty, goes slowly, swimming to shore and stopping when his belly stopped on the sand. He was now just a few steps away from you, sighing and putting your feet in the sea water, you approached the merman.
"So can you tell me what happened? I just remember that I passed out and… " He quickly stretched out one of his hands and held your much smaller hand in it gently. He couldn't believe you were still talking to him after almost drowning. He brought you close to himself and started dragging his face over you and purring lightly.
“I love you. Worried I was, alive you are. Happy, happy, happy "
"Wait, can you speak my language? When did you learn that?" You didn’t mind being so close to his face since he seemed to be really worried about you. Seeing the silly and innocent way of Eclipse, you give a small laugh and hugged Eclipse's round face.
Still curious, he stops for a few seconds to think about when he started to be able to speak in your language he sighs and elaborates slightly.
"Y/N help Eclipse fish. Eclipse wanted to thank you. Human language is difficult, but Eclipse tried his best, because Eclipse loves y/n and y/n loves Eclipse." His voice didn't sound like a normal person’s, but a gigantic adult with a slightly thick voice. Occasionally, a thin little scream came out, as if he was still getting used to speaking that language.
You think it's cute and you gave him a little smile and gently placed a hand onto his face. Eclipse’s purr was gratifying, and so nice to hear, it was like having a giant wet cat who loved you like a best friend.
At the same time Eclipse leaves the hug, purring lightly. He was happy to finally tell you that he loved you, and apparently you loved him back from the demonstration you gave. Perhaps he should teach your language to Sun and Moon! Then they could say things to you instead of just pointing around. Before he goes back to the sea, he licks you and puts you back in the sand, diving and going to the bottom of the sea to find his brothers and maybe when they were better they could surprise you.
You started walking back home and then you realized that your house had only one light on, but last time you hadn't left anything on. Was someone in the house? Slowly you approach, the fear creeping in as the silhouette of the house was getting closer. You didn't know if there was a killer inside your house to keep it lit. Eclipse would worry about you if you disappeared in the middle of the night. He would be so sad. You think about it until you stop in front of your door and before you can open it, someone else does and that person looks very angry.
"Do you have any idea how worried I was about you?! You've been gone for about three days! I thought you..." She stopped talking at the sight of you, drenched in sea water and sporting a horrified yet surprised look on your face. The woman in front of you had blonde hair and green eyes, with a little freckles spread across her face. Just below her eyes there were big dark circles. You could tell it was actually due to her work. Either as a manager or security guard, you really didn't know which. For a gigantic aquarium it would be so tiring. Your best friend sighs and steps aside for you to finally enter your own home.
It'd been a few hours since you arrived. After taking a shower and putting on a warmer outfit, you're now sitting on the couch with a mug of hot chocolate and some marshmallows. It was very quiet, extremely quiet, and you could hear the droplets of rain outside and occasionally some thunder. Actually you could cut that tension with a knife. Your friend Vanessa was staring at you with those emerald eyes waiting for you to say something, to bring up the subject that was bothering her for so long.
You sighed after taking a sip of the hot chocolate, and stared back at Vanessa. She inhaled sharply through her nose and looked away quickly. You didn't know if that was out of sheer shame or something else, but you wanted to know what she was waiting to ask you. At this point you were hoping she’d ask anything since that silence was very strange for her. Vanessa was always a woman who liked to talk to you or anyone, but being so quiet like this was kind of weird.
“Okay, Van… What's bothering you and keeping you staring at me for so long? You know you can say anything to me and I will answer you honestly.”
“Are you seriously asking me why I'm like this?! You disappeared for exactly three days! No one knew what happened to you. You only appeared once in the water and were seen being carried away by something, and that thing swam into the middle of the sea before diving with you! I thought you had drowned, and you have the nerve to ask me why I'm like this!? I was worried about you! Now will you tell me what that shit was and what was it doing to you underwater?” Hearing Vanessa call Sun a shit, made you grip the mug a little tighter, after everything you two had been through, you didn't have the courage to tell her who those new friends of yours were. At the same time she made you a little angry, calling someone as innocent as Sun ‘shit’. You took a long sip just to make her a little angrier and put the mug on the table and your hands on your lap, staring at her. Your eyes shone while you stared in an almost death penance way, giving a sigh as you began to speak.
“Firstly, Vanessa, that thing that took me to the middle of the sea is not shit, it's a friend of mine. I won't tell you anymore, even with all the questions you have. Secondly, I'm fine. You don't need to worry as if I were your daughter. Thirdly, I might as well leave you outside in the rain to catch some disease but I won't because you're my friend. This conversation about what happened to me during those three days ends here and now.”
Vanessa was transfixed by what you said and started to stomp her foot on the floor. She wanted to scream and try to convince you to say what was going on but she knew how stubborn you could be. She sighed and slowly rose out of the chair she’d been sitting in and headed to the kitchen trying to get some hot chocolate. You didn’t really register all of this as there was something on your mind that you wanted to get off. You took another sip slowly and with a sigh and flushed cheeks, you spoke up.
“ Hey Van...can I ask you a question?”
Vanessa looked up from making her drink. “Shoot.”
“When do you... Stop thinking that a wild animal is... You know, wild?”
“Oh? When you love it… It’s a bit more complicated than that, but you get the jist I think.”
When you love them? That was a little weird. I mean, you always loved Eclipse, Sun, and Moon together, but maybe it was that kind of love.
The more…romantic kind.
It wasn't that for sure, at least that's what you think. You wanted all the best for them and wanted them to always be happy. You pick up the mug again and take another sip. It was almost gone. You sighed a little. Maybe you were loving them for so long that you didn't even know it yourself. It was so strange to be there just thinking about Eclipse, watching the raindrops hit the window. You knew they were much more, but then those words that Vanessa said hit your mind. You knew you loved them not as a boyfriend or something, but rather as best friends or even family.
You slowly got up and just looked at Vanessa, still angry with what she had said before and went to your room with those same words still echoing inside your head. You threw yourself on the bed and look at the wooden ceiling and without realizing it, slowly sleep engulfed you.
It was soon morning, and as usual, you were at the docks waiting for your friends to show up. You had brought a few things for them to eat, but something was very wrong. It had been three hours and none of them had appeared or showed their faces to explain the delay. That worried you, but you knew that if there was something wrong, Eclipse would tell you without hiding it.
After all, he knew the human language well enough.
You just sighed and wondered if you did something wrong. You heard a strange sound coming from the water, and two white eyes stared at you, but this time... They looked sad and despondent. It was Moon
“Sad… I heard a fight… not my fault? I’m ugly and scary. I'm sorry ssssstarlighttty.” Over there by the surface of the water, you saw that little light that was always hanging off the tip of Moon’s head fin. He seemed to be trying to hide it from you. Had they heard that argument you had with Vanessa? Moon thought that the argument was his fault ? You give a small laugh and gently pat the top of his head.
Intense chill ran through Moon's entire body. He had thought that because of the muffled screams that had come from your house, something very bad had happened and that strange person had fought with you. If he wasn't so weak, maybe he wouldn't have so many scars and could get out of the water without feeling any pain… However, his thoughts were pulled out as you touched him, the chill that came with it was a reminder that he shouldn't fall for that siren's song, but simultaneously the touch was so soft and so tender…
He slowly looked in your direction seeing your eyes shine with love and so much kindness. They were full of friendship and understanding. Why were you treating him so well? You’d gotten hurt because of him, didn't you?
"Ugly? There's nothing ugly about you. Actually... Out of your brothers, you are always so beautiful, Moony. And besides! Some scars can be seen as a very courageous thing. Don't feel bad, ok? The thing you heard from my house wasn't your fault, ok? I love you all, ok?”
You slowed down and reached your hand towards his head but stopped midway when you thought that Moon might bite you again.
It had been hard to get his trust but after those sweet and quiet words the merman knew he could trust you just a little more. He wouldn't open up directly like the other two, but you’d get to know him. Moon also wanted to play that weird game you were playing before with Sun in the corals. Maybe he could also call Eclipse. He shook his head, sending those thoughts away and with his cold hands, the merman put your delicate hand on top of his head. That sent a shiver down your spine, but at the same time a smile appeared on your face. You pat his nightcap. It wasn't slimy but smooth, not what you expected. You stayed there with him, waiting for Sun or Eclipse to appear and inform you about why they were taking so long.
Sun was hiding under the corals just looking at his brother's tail, his eyes filled with tears. He was afraid that that strange sound he had heard before was his fault, after all he was normal. He didn’t have a special talent like his brother. Although Eclipse and Moon always told him that, yes, he had something, he just didn't recognise what it was.
Sun looked up and wondered what he should say to you. If he should apologize or if he should just leave Moon and Eclipse up there with you, after all he didn't deserve to be there with you. Soon after so much debating, he slowly started to swing his tail and just before he could break the surface he stopped, looking to his right. He could see you and Moon talking about something he couldn't hear well but there was something in that conversation that made him a little more nervous and a little more cautious. He shook his head and slowly broke the surface, looking directly at you.
When he appeared you gave a huge smile and you waved your delicate hands towards him. He felt his cheeks turn red but he shook his head and swam very shyly towards the docks. Touching and holding the wood just below the platform, he looks in your direction and sees that you are still petting Moon's nightcap, which causes involuntary tears to fall from his eyes.
You worry about him and stop petting Moon and stretch your arms towards Sun's face. Touching his cheeks and wiping away the tears, you're saying something, but he can't understand. His crying made think harder, but he recalled some phrases that Eclipse taught him and with a voice choked with sobs as he started to speak certain words.
"Sorry, my fault… Not special, and now you sad… Sorry, worthless Sun, worthless Sun."
You looked confused."What? Sun, Sun, stop, stop it's not your fault! It was just an argument, please, you're not useless."
"Yes fault. if not useless, you would be happy. You would be having more fun… Useless Sun."
You jump into the lake, swimming towards Sun's back and you hug him tightly. He stops crying instantly when you just hug him. His hands shake and slowly he touches your arms, hugging you in return. Moon sees that but doesn't get jealous as he knew Sun needed this right now. After a while you move your head away from his back and smile at him before saying.
“Sun, listen to me. You are the most amazing thing to happen to my life. Your voice is so cute and your smile brightens my day., so trust me when I say that you are something special."
He hears your words, moved. You really thought he was special, and that let him see the world in a new light. Very slowly, Moon swam in your direction and hugged you together. That was something special and he didn't want to break the moment by showing up, but there was a smile on Eclipse’s face as he hid under water. You had managed to conquer them too. That would be interesting.

Pearl Eye
A Sleuth Jesters MerMay Fic
Movement. A mer swims overhead, speaking to someone, blocking out the starlight. The interloper lays a hand on the rim of the entrance but doesn’t look down just yet, and doesn’t see you, red-handed. Your gut clenches with the urge to flee, your strength already spent in the fight moments earlier, and you heed the warning.
Word Count: 10,800~ Warnings: Blood and injury, violence, weapons, bruises, angst, threats of violence, death, possessive behavior, obsessive behavior, killing, and suggestive themes.
A/N: *shows up late to MerMay with Starbucks and sunglasses* I made it! I'm so excited to share this one shot with you! It's more of the usual for the Sleuth Jesters crew, just shoved into the ocean and fish-ified. The world-building has been tweaked to fit this setting as it's less formal and less organized, but Sun and Moon are still the equivalents of detectives, Eclipse as a mafia boss, and Y/N is doing the usual vigilante shtick.
Eclipse's octo design is based on @xitsensunmoon's art which you should absolutely check out right here! I cooked up some mer designs for Sun and Moon, but they're a lot less tentacle-y (kind of).
There's a lot I ended up not going into for this universe, but if you have questions or want to know more, you can always shoot me a question here!
Merry MerMay! Enjoy ♥
