My daily sketch for today. All I see is how weird it looks and the frustrated feeling of erasing and fixing on repeat but still not getting it right. Oh well, that’s all the time I had today for this one. It’s hard when it looks so wrong but you don’t know where you went wrong and how to fix it.

A girl in a dark green hoodie. This looks so different from the reference photo and it looks weird to me but I’m just happy I didn’t forget to draw today.

[ zhao lusi, cis woman, she/her ] — i’m pretty sure that was just poppy liu of the noveux riche that just passed by. the twenty-six year old fashion model has been a resident here in the upper east side for fifteen years.  they’re known for being passionate & adventurous, but i overheard someone mention they’re also detached & fickle…considering they’re a cancer i think there might be some truth to it. but maybe that’s just because they’re always worried someone might find out about REDACTED. something about them has always reminded me of fingers weaving through the wind during a car ride, meaningful conversations beneath the warm rays of the sun, playfully flashing a red tinted tongue after finishing a cherry popsicle. but maybe that’s just because they like to write poetry & sketch new york's scenery in their free time. — [[ riyu, 21+, pst, she/her ]]

Presenting! A concept sketch for an idea I had. An olive-blood troll with a troupe of jumping-mice (piranha-like) lusi! She felt the call of the 'Messiahs' after hitting an all time low, and despite not being purple-blood, she took up the religion. Now, she is putting on shows to spread the greatness that is their mirth, and culling the ones that besmirch their name.

It's Aro Week! I'm going to spend it talking about some of my published aromantic characters.

Today: Cavallan (aka. Val or Dog) from Testing Grounds and Birthday Landscapes

Cavallan is a battered, disabled, warrior-mage (also known as a sense-twister for the way they can twist both their own senses and those of other people). He is both aromantic and asexual, though the aromantic side tends to dominate. He was originally a mentor character in a now trunked early novel, but has grown and developed along with my own writing skills and now carries stories on his own. He has a dislike for bards who pile unearned fame on his head, or give him sole credit for something that it took a whole group of people to achieve, a kind heart, a queerplatonic partner, and twin children.

A short sample (from Birthday Landscapes): “We want landscapes, please, Da,” Lusi proclaimed, and held out the chalk she had fetched.

“Very well,” Val replied. He nudged a chair up to the end of the table and took the chalk pouch. “What kind of landscape do you want to start with?” He sat down and fished out one of the pieces of chalk.

“Plains,” Emlan piped up. “With grass and flowers, not all mud and sand and stone!”

Lusi scowled. “I wanted hills. Can I have them second?”

“Of course.” Val breathed slowly and gathered himself, then racked his memory until a suitable plains landscape came to mind. He visualised it, took up the chalk, and sketched it out in map form on the table. He ran his finger around the edge of the map to mark a boundary, then fed out a trickle of power. The map flowed upward into a miniature illusion of the real landscape and the twins bounded up to flank him at the table.
