I like the balancing act they do with Lyco. You start out thinking that he's naive and yeah, he's not exactly knowledgeable about the galaxy, but what he actually is is principled. He would prefer to do the Jedi diplomacy thing when possible and he's willing to forgive Asajj, but if he knows diplomacy isn't an option he'll just stab you in the back while you're distracted.

So I just finished the Asajj Ventress portion of the show and I gotta say, we do have quite a few Star Wars dads finding kids and adopting them in space. I think it's about time we got a mother adopting a kid in space.💙💛

We need more of them. A show!

Tales of the Underworld spoilers:

Last night, when I was Imagining Things, my brain went "Kanan and Lyco should meet" and then went "but what if they were Dad Friends" and proceeded to give me the image of a daughter/Padawan for Lyco.

Anyway, meet Xulu Strata (because yes, Lyco officially adopts her).

Lyco picked her up when she was ten after she attempted to steal from him using the Force. He was twenty-five, and had just left Ventress and Quinlan to do his own work for the Path.

Xulu is sassy, snarky, reckless, wicked smart, and an amazing duelist and shot. She was orphaned at age seven and lived on-and-off with an elderly couple until they died when she was nine. She is able to do Flow-walking, which (according to my very brief research) allows the user to flow through time with their mind and see the past, present, and future of a particular object. This caused her some trouble as a child, as she would often disappear into her mind as she played, loosing track of time and becoming immersed in a separate world.

She eventually becomes very close friends with Ezra and Sabine, and ends up in a relationship with Tristan, Sabine's brother.

Her favorite color is magenta, she has a droid named R5-X0, and a Tooka named Grunge.

My biggest takeaway from Tales of the Underworld is that I'm dead serious that I want a full Asajj Ventress series. Her half of this season was probably my favorite of the Tales series yet, it gave such good characterization for her, the entire adventure was geared towards showing her taking step after step towards the light, towards a life that she wants for herself. It didn't rely on cameos and the new character served exactly the purpose he was supposed to! I absolutely adore Lyco, I desperately want more adventures with him and Asajj, I love that he's so firmly rooted in being a Jedi and that means he is GOING to make friends with her, because that's what a Jedi does. I love that he doesn't want to give up being a Jedi, but neither is he interested in trying to make Asajj into one, either. The reluctantly adopted student vibe with cranky teacher Asajj who grudgingly genuinely cares? Absolute gold. I'm even okay with her not seeing Quinlan again, whether because she believes there's some sort of Dathomirian witch price to be paid ("her heart's desire") or because she's just not ready and needs more time to figure herself out, the open ending of it felt organic to me. It was a really good progression of Asajj's character arc, fun character interactions, stylish animation, and used its time really well. I honestly couldn't have asked for more.

Do I also love the idea of the Force bringing Lyco and Ventress together so that Ventress would have a little piece of Quinlan after she gave him up? Yes. Yes, I do.
