ever since I first heard Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince four years ago, I’ve had the extremely vivid idea for a music video. I never posted about it or wrote it down but here we go!! 💕💕💕
Picture aesthetically like a warm 80s coming of age film lighting. the first verse is at the prom. a fight has broken out and a disheveled Taylor in a light blue prom dress staggers down the school hallway. The hallway is covered from wall to floor in blue and red posters and campaigns and slogans and targeted pictures (think very much mean girls, papers everywhere and people brawling and yelling). At the pre-chorus, she opens the door to gym where the dance was, it’s dark with moving white dance lights. She slinks in the shadows and amid the decorations (streamers and such) to see what’s going on.
As the chorus starts, she sees a circle of people and dancers form around two guys fighting, she watches an apparent prom king (ken doll type) and a more rebel looking guy (I’m picturing Jess from Gilmore Girls ok) get into a verbal altercation and then they’re throwing punches. Jess-boy is knocked to the floor.
Second Verse— taylor pushes her way to front of the circle, shocked at what’s happened. Suddenly the lights all turn on in the gym. After a moment, someone points at her and she is chased into a bathroom. (Pre-chorus) She hides in the stall and takes a deep breath, but she realizes on the pink stalls are all posters from the red side, vandalized and mocking pictures of her.
(Chorus) She hurries outside and sprints onto the football field. She collapses right in the middle on the fifty yard line. Close up as she closes her eyes.
Transition as eyes open to the bridge— like a dream-like sequence in the daytime (lover sky) with cheerleaders (including Taylor) in fully white cheer uniforms doing their routine. On the soft chorus part, the background fades and she drops her pom poms. close ups on her face (concerned) as she sees in the distance the Jess-boy is the only one in the bleachers.
On the “you should know” belt, the camera zooms way out to a bird’s eye shot— taylor in her white cheer outfit but with the messy prom hair, still laying in the middle of the football field, as two screaming groups of people (the red group and the blue group) charge at each other from either side. The rest of the song is a sort of montage from the fights in the hall, the gym, the cheer routine (lifts and tumbling and stuff), prom dancing, her and Jess-boy kissing, etc. final shots— close up on the front lines of either side just inches from trampling Taylor. Final shot, Taylor squeezing her eyes shut.

After watching +20 shows (via livestream of course) i can finally gather my thoughts around it:
-Damn the people that made other people believe that Lover was a bad album for just one or two songs. Lover is the perfect opener and its really sad we didn't get Loverfest, the way Cruel Summer gets the crowd all hyped up within minutes wow just imagine 2hrs of just that
-Since the release i'd always favored folklore over evermore but i was so so so wrong! Evermore (in my opinion) is the strongest set of the tour, it really elevates and completes the album. The songs order is perfectly curated, the performances are distinctive but cohesive, and the public interaction during CP takes the cake. (and y'all may hate me but folklore set feels all over the place in comparison)
- The whiplash from the transition to Rep is necessary bc Rep is just in a league of its own. Reputation is THAT bitch and will always be THAT bitch, period. The crowd goes the loudest and the whole thing is just iconic.
- 1989, you will always be the be the perfect pop tracks, nothing more to say.
- At this point Midnights feels kinda rushed but for me the tour version sounds waaaay better than the studio version (at least for my ears). I think she should do a tour only for Midnights (idk when, she needs to rest too lol) but this set and performances have great potential, it just needs to be exploted. Also Karma is the perfect song to close the whole thing.
Sorry i think this thing got way too long 😅What are your thoughts? (if you already wrote them down could you link me to them so you don't have to repeat yourself)
My thoughts? I mean the show is incredible. It makes sense in the long run because timing is everything. It’s strategically timed. There’s something for everyone. The visuals are a huge part of it.
MAATHP into Cruel Summer was the perfect opener. Somehow I'm craving more Lover. Her entrance is goddess-like.
I thought it was funny how one minute people are crying at the end of evermore and then the snake comes on stage and everyone has to wipe their tears like brave little soldiers to get …ready for it 😂 I bet that was strategic.
For the evermore section I feel like tolerate it should be replaced with ivy (ivy truther forever). Not a tolerate it hater, it makes for good theatrics, I just like ivy better.
You can tell in pictures how sparkly and magical the folklorian woods look, it makes sense. I personally love the visuals of the cardigan music video so that would’ve been cool to incorporate. mad woman would be fun to add to folklore too. I see evermore as a continuation of folklore so its hard for me to separate the two.
1989 is flawless.
What I enjoy the most is seeing her with her guitar for the surprise songs. She plays so beautifully. I wish that part was longer. So many of her songs come to life for me when its just her and her guitar. Theres only lover, fearless, all too well and betty that she plays guitar on. But I get that she has so much ground to cover.
For midnights we basically get clouds, closet visuals, vs stage for mastermind, burlesque energy for vigilante shit and rainbows for karma. I’ll take it, but I think there could have been more trippy visuals if time allowed.
I probably didn’t fully answer your question but basically, I accept the eras tour for all that it magically is and I’m just happy that Taylor is back out in the world. It’s nice to see her more than once every few months 😜

Spotify Wrapped - Miss Americana & The Scarf
Tumblr media
The video opens on this pair, Miss Americana and an anthropomorphized red scarf they are standing inside TS right eye. Being hidden within her eye they are just below the skyline, between the Cornelia St sign and the dice roll. There are two shots of them. In the space of a few seconds the sun (her pupil) rises behind them as they meet, join hands, drop hands off-camera, but then come back together and press against one another back to back, they disappear in a literal blink of an eye just before the final zoom out. The sky is blue, fluffy cartoon clouds go by, seagulls fly through the shot, and orange-red leaves fall from the mask worn by the scarf.
Tumblr media
Miss Americana is one of the few characters completely unmasked in the video only glitter obscures her face, I interpret this as her being a facet of TS who is more exposed to the public eye, she wears a tight pink dress with a giant bow covering her chest, very feminine, she's wearing the Miss Americana title spelled out in black friendship bracelet beads like a beauty pageant sash. The black and white beads are a notable contrast to the blue/purple/pink beads of the other friendship bracelets worn by Mountain Taylor. Both of her wrists are covered in bracelets and I think that her earrings are made of tiny versions of those beads too but they're all illegible, the earring looks like lazy daisy petal outline.
Daisies have history in Taylor's lyricism "I once was poison ivy, but now I'm your daisy" and in her online public presence particularly in the run up to the launch of Lover and in the context of her relationship with KK.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Scarf is a woman clad in a loose red satin robe layered with a giant red pointed scarf, aside from a toothy smile her face is obscured by orange leaves (shades of a Cheshire cat smile.) The leaves that make up the mask are the same colour as the flames of the burning house and the leaves in the snow-globe/crystal ball. Her left hand is always hidden.
The All Too Well scarf is represented another time in the video, wrapped around a cat in the foreground, but, TS says that whenever we see a cat it's just to remind us that she really likes cats so maybe that one is ignored by association?
Miss Americana is most obviously paired with The Heartbreak Prince, so does scarf-lady represent the prince as well or is the prince just absent? If so were they ghosted in favour of 'the castle' or are they just missing a direct representation because every figure in the video is part of her personal mirror-ball? All Too Well og version was on Red and the scarf represents innocence/girl-hood, is that something she could be reclaiming or, uh, re-gifting, through Miss Americana in the Lover era?
Tumblr media
Pageants are pretty universally a feminine pursuit, and in the TS universe they're something that can be worn as a mask, and something that might be avoided to frustrate old fashioned expectations. In MAATHP "no cameras catch my pageant smile" as she ripped up her prom dress "running through rose thorns" when she saw the political landscape and ran for her life. In Dorothea the muse is "Skipping the prom just to piss off your mom and her pageant schemes."
In MAATHP she addresses a You throughout the song, no pronouns, but "the damsels are depressed"/"we're so sad, we paint the town blue" it's easy to read THP as being female. It sounds like an apologetic plea to a lover a - you know I love you but this is a terrifying time of loaded dice and there's an unfavourable scoreboard so lets not fight with each other lets just run away together and we'll come back to this battle when the time is right. I can't help but wonder if it was originally written as Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Kid.
Tumblr media
The image of a rising sun in music always reminds of the song House of the Rising Sun which despite the popular radio version has its origin as a folk song in which the protagonist is either a prisoner or a prostitute or both. The idea of being trapped/caged/locked in to a certain image is a theme throughout Taylors work. Of course there are more obvious connections to Taylors own work, Lovers pre-launch name was Daylight, and the song Happiness references "a glorious sunrise" both of which I've blogged about here before with the general theme of Sunrise being a metaphor for coming out of the closet. Sunrises generally signify beginnings, it's interesting that in this clip the sun rises over this relationship but never sets, just becomes hidden away.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The seagulls in this clip reference a prevalent part of the imagery for 1989 both og and re-recording, they have long been rumoured to be covert symbols of sapphic love in the TS universe. Here are some 'lesbian seagull' references if you're curious. :) [1] [2] [3]
Eye Theory is another really straight-forward link to this clip and as it's a well established piece of gaylore so I'm just going to pop a link to the @9w1ft master-post. [4]

I 3000% need a YBWM music video 2.0 for Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince.
I can clearly imagine her running through a high school hallway in a pink poofy tulle prom dress that goes just below her knees and converse hightops, getting cut by rose bushes that are growing from the lockers and I just need this visual to become a real thing for me.

Hello, lovers ♥
I had this idea of “Where would the songs from Lover be if they belonged to any of Tay’s previous albums?” and I’m very proud and happy that this edit turned out even better than I had envisioned it!
And thank you for coming to my Tay Talk, lovers ♥ -Viv.

I watched your Lover discussion today! Thanks for posting that. I think it’s interesting how over time you seem to have softened on Fearless and 1989 (especially since the release of the folkmore albums) and yet Lover has aged poorly. Has that impacted your overall album rankings? I also wonder how the re-records will impact album rankings - I can see myself maybe shifting an album up or down a little after listening with fresh ears.
I posted an album ranking a few weeks ago here - which is to say that no, my softened approach to Fearless and 1989 hasn’t affected my personal rankings.
I think I said it in a few slides yesterday but also had to repeat it a few times to individuals who dm’d me so I’ll take the opportunity to be a bit more clear now: When I said “Lover has aged poorly” I was referring mostly to the external forces that basically brought the album to its knees and made Lover (to the wider public) passed over, forgotten, and irrelevant. Not because the contents were all bad, but because a lot of factors came into play that meant that it didn’t get the full chance or opportunity to become everything it could have been. “ME!” being released as the lead single sputtering critical reception, the non-committal and inconsistent PR rollout, polarized response to the “YNTCD” music video, the pandemic forcing Lover Fest to be cancelled, Taylor pivoting to a new genre and releasing not one but two full LP efforts in rapid succession that were culturally and critically more embraced than Lover ... just to name a few.
There are a few songs that have lost their lustre in my eyes (“The Man”, “MAATHP”) but many of the songs are still so incredibly good - they’re just hidden gems on an album doomed to kind of be ‘forgotten’ - at least for now ( “Cruel Summer”, “The Archer”, “Cornelia Street”, “DBATC”, "Afterglow”, “False God”, “Daylight”) both because the album has been largely passed over and also because the incredible “lows” of the album (“ME!”, really) almost outshine the goodness of it.

Self care is ignoring the political commentary in maathp in order to imagine a high-school romcom music video for it.

Hi, I'm new to this whole madness that is the Taylor fan base - lol - and I actually started listening to her whole albums instead of just her singles and hits because I saw a thread of swiftgron on twitter and I fell in love with her music in general, but I still have trouble keeping track of all the acronyms (? Lover said to be complete feb. 24, 2019
Tumblr media
April 19, 2019 The Netflix movie “Someone Great” premiers, which she says in an Ellen interview May 15, 2019 is the inspiration for DBATC
DBATC?- she said it was inspired by something great which wasn’t released until April 19, 2019 and she mentioned on Ellen in May 15, 2019 (almost a month later)that she had just recently watched it…….“This love” “boarded up windows(CIWYW)”, “chandelier(Cornelia apt., TIWWCHNT)”, “see you everywhere(Cornelia st.in NEW YORK CITY)” “pages(Cornelia, NYD)” “hips(False God)” “United we stand (MAATHP)” “fears”(DWOHT)” “Touch of your hand(ready for it, YAIL, delicate)” “drug(DONT blame me, end game)” “plans(I Think He Knows)” “wine”(false god, Dress)” “death”(LWYMMD)
...but I’m supposed to believe DBATC is about a movie and not her life??
May 15, 2019 Taylor goes on Ellen:
E: are you finished with the album yet?
T: yeah! Unless I write something else and then I’ll just probably put it on the album
E: you have another video coming out soon
T: -ish. Yeah
E: when is it coming out?
T: i dont know yet because we have to finish it first
E: i think you said you wanted me in it?
T: yeah that would be a dream. would you wanna do that??
E: mm, i dont know but I’ll think about it
...Ellen later asks taylor what her favorite movie is and taylor says it’s a movie she’s seen within the last week: Someone Great.
...now, even if it were within the last 2 weeks, that means DBATC had to have been written early May 2019… 3 months after the album is supposed to be done…??....
Also by May 15, 2019 some of the YNTCD music video is shot, at least Ellen’s part probably is. The rest is shot May 20, 2019
