i like vegetables. i want to eat vegetables. when my food is too beige i get sad. but anything colourful is so expensive this time of year and this year it's even worse, obviously

#she speaks #recessionposting #satisfying my broccoli cravings by making soup from frozen broccoli because a head of fresh broccoli is 14 kronor #but it's just not the same #mum made ... okay so snålröra doesn't have a translation but #basically you take a bunch of veggies put some flavourings on it roast it in the oven and blend it up #mum makes that off of her and dad's kitchen garden harvest every year because when it's fresh there's too much to eat #and it's nice to have when it gets colder and there's no veggies and anyway i was given a bag of it #made pasta with it for lunch #mixed in some frozen spinach #but i want real veggies! that you chew! with colour! that are not carrots! or beetroot!#i miss back in august when the greenhouse grew like five monstrosity zucchinis all at once and my parents foisted one of those on me #and i had zucchini with everything for like a week because it was a desperate race against time before it went bad #now it's just. potato onion carrot. everything is potato onion carrot #something canned. something frozen. once in a blue moon i can have chicken because chicken prices terrify me #milk is the only animal product i refuse to give up on fuck you recession i need milk in my coffee #and eggs. you can pry eggs from my cold dead hands #putting a soft boiled egg in my instant noodles is one of my human rights actually

I accidentally drugged myself at work

#my bf made pasta with weed butter last night #and i had no clue because i had something else for dinner #and i brought the leftover weed butter pasta to work for lunch #and ate half #and it's kicked in #thank god i only have 30min left

the most startling thing I've learned since starting to make my own sourdough bread is that 1-2 thick slices of that stuff is actually a whole lunch. you can add some light fruit and yogurt and whatever but you don't need to because those slices are filling.

You know, with all of life’s twists and turns, I think the thing young me would be most horrified by about my current existence is that I’m the kind of person who puts a fried egg with a runny yolk on top of things.

If you’re in the mood, I’d be interested to hear what foods you now like that younger you is disgusted and horrified by.

In a turn of shocking events absolutely stunning no one more than myself, I might actually enjoy cooking and not only that, be good at it

#it’s like a switch just flipped or something it’s crazy #cooking genuinely used to be in my top 10 most hated activities #but these past couple days I’ve been loving it?#I wonder if the secret is that I’m ACTUALLY cooking #as in like making things from scratch and not relying on premade frozen and stovetop meals #like on Saturday I made a ran of ribs #(made bbq sauce from scratch and everything!)#and then shredded the meat for tacos #they were delicious! and I loved the process of it!#they were so yummy I brought the leftovers to work for lunch the next day!!!!#I’ve *never* done that before #last night I made pasta #and while the pasta was premade (I don’t think I’ll ever reach a point where I’m making pasta from scratch regularly lol)#(I would like to give a shot eventually though)#I made the sauce myself and actually grated fresh Parmesan cheese instead of using the powdered shit #and it was so yummy!!!!#today a friend is coming over and I’m gonna make her fried rice with some of the leftover rib meat #I woke up this morning and first thing made French toast and bacon #not frozen French toast like I actually turned the stove on #tomorrow night I am planning on making Turkey meatloaf with glazed carrots and some peas #what is HAPPENING #this used to be HELL for me and now I’m enjoying it #and food tastes???? good????#this is insane who was gonna tell me food could taste good??????#I used to hate food and only ate when I needed to #is this what cooking from scratch does???? it makes it taste good?????#mannnnnnn #but anyways yes I’m loving it I’m loving the process and it’s tasting good #I haven’t had a horrible accident where something tastes awful yet #(I expect it will happen eventually haha but so far!!!)

i'm so used to A) cooking for myself and one other person B) cooking just an entree and maybe one side dish, that i am very not good at kitchen time management and prepping ingredients quickly. anyway sorry 2 my family that the mother's day lunch i volunteered to make didn't actually get served until like 2 pm

#well everyone enjoyed it so that was nice. but i do need to manage my prep time better. especially if i'm going to be baking bread day-of.#lunch was. . . chicken florentine which i'd never made before. so that adds to prep time. panzanella salad which i'd also never made before #braided garlic knot bread. you may be picking up a theme here. also had never made before.#roasted red pepper pasta which I'd made several times and used my own recipe. but i'd never made it for more than one person. i did prep #the peppers ahead of time. and a lemon olive oil cake that i made the night before.
