apple white rant because i love ever after high and just reread the first book
it bugs me when people say they hate apple white because i feel like most of the time they don’t actually have an understanding of her character
her whole life she was told that the only way she could ever be happy was if she followed her destiny and signed the book. then she would be safe. the ways she went about it were very much wrong, but in many cases they weren’t really her actions but rather the actions of adults speaking through her.
also, even though she’s in a position of privilege, she has never held any power over her own life. in the books her and raven go on a quest to see what will happen if raven doesn’t sign, but it was manipulated by grimm to ultimately lead to a dead body as proof of their demise. the books do a really good job at showing the fact that she’s genuinely terrified for her life rather than her happy ending. it’s also specified in the books that she doesn’t think raven will actually become evil. she just thinks that raven will poison her and then continue with a life that will satisfy her (an over simplification but still)
a big part of the reason she’s so keen on having her story (outside of the grooming from all of the adults she trusts most) is bc when she was a kid she almost died and it solidified in her that the only danger she wants to face is the kind she knows she can survive, which does pose a threat of harm for others but it helps people understand her character a little bit more
anyway, in the first book she was more than willing to help raven find an alternative ending. insistent that she helped raven find a happy ending along side her before sealing their fates. even though she really wanted the fairytale ending, she broke rules and helped raven. their journey was corrupted by milton, though, and ultimately led to a dead body that claimed to have wished to sign the book.
she still displays selfishness throughout the series, but she’s a complex character and doesn’t deserve to be simmered down to a greedy, selfish, spoiled princess that’s mad because she won’t get a specific happy ending.
also her relationship with briar in the books is so cute
another interesting detail is before raven refused to sign, those not considered royal were called commoners instead of rebels
and it goes into better detail about what people see in the story book of legends and how they react to it
also apple can’t swim. idk if they mention that in the show
im such a freak about this series omg

starter for @milkteethss // madeline & giles
When Madeline had become a lady in waiting for the Queen, this was the last thing she thought she'd be doing. From helping her dress, to looking after the babies to making sure the Queen was okay, none of her duties had really involved the King before.
At first, she wasn't quite sure why she had been picked. She wasn't the only lady in waiting, that was for sure. Perhaps one was too docile, perhaps one was a little too older, perhaps one didn't quite have the body that might be wanted. Perhaps Madeline was just the perfect package, sweet but slightly stubborn - giving him a challenge? Pretty blonde hair, perky breasts, sparkling blue eyes, maybe there was something about her. Madeline wasn't one to talk about herself in that manner but if she had to figure out why, perhaps that was why. Maybe she'd pissed off the Queen too, but Madeline just knew to nod and go do the duties, even if it was something rather different.
The only thing was, Madeline really wasn't experienced, like at all. She wasn't sure if that would make the King even angrier or if it might be something that made her even more exciting, the fact that she was a virgin.
She hesitated at the door to his chambers, before knocking, pushing the heavy wooden door open just slightly, to expose a hint of her soft blue dress and a hint of her blonde hair . He wasn't expecting her, so she didn't want to make him even madder.
"Your highness?"

HI! i saw u reblogged the West end hadestown and said you've seen it so i have to ask, thoughts on hades? the character switch when he goes very camp on chant (reprise) threw me for a fucking LOOP. i had been crying beforehand but I was just like desperately holding in my laughter after that. the "young man" up against the door frame? I almost pissed myself. and his legs....
OH MY GOD. OKAY. YES
i'm the wrong person to ask about this because whenever a stage performer turns up the camp to 100, worthwhile questions such as 'is this the best considered acting choice for the character' don't stand a chance. they are completely overshadowed by the gay part of my brain emitting whirring noises. i enjoy it too much to care
but anyway my actual thoughts on zachary's hades are as follows:
i like when hades sucks. i enjoy when he gets to be a melodramatic loser and a villain-y villain, because it makes orpheus managing to get through to him hit much harder for me. so zachary hades with his sleazy attitude and the kind of warped enjoyment he's getting out of playing at being powerful and manipulative fulfilled my every wish. tailored to me specifically
i especially enjoyed his acting when he starts to break down a bit for epic 3, his scared/angry/shaken/lashing out was all delicious
direct quote from the messages i was sending people about the show after i saw it: i will say that he was not very.. idk.. plausible?? in chant 2 convo with orpheus specifically bc he was having too much gay fun strutting around the revolve to sell the lines about keeping a woman lmaooo
also i'm extra sad that we don't have the 'now it thickens on my tongue / now it quickens in my lung / now i'm stricken now i'm stung / it's done already' lines in his kiss the riot any more because they're some of my favourites and i want his gay take on them

I know I mentioned in my Brooke post that I'd elaborate on my idea of a potential story arc that would utilize her more if asked, but I just can't keep it to myself anymore. SO!
The arc's main antagonist would be some old, possibly conservative Narrator, who takes one look at the story of EAH and goes "oh I can fix it" and just. Takes over the story! I'd think because of this Narrators' status, there wouldn't be too much pushback, at least from the adults. But Brooke? Brooke is furious.
Her blood boils further once she sees this Narrator's plan. This Narrator basically rewinds time and starts the story of EAH from the very beginning, and it's very obvious this Narrator doesn't really know what he/she/they are doing. Our cast are wildly ooc in the worst way, and everything about the story is just... wrong. None of the cast remember the original timeline/story, except for Kitty and Maddie (the rest of the Wonderlandians have severe deja vu), and maybe Milton and Giles.
Brooke confronts the Narrator, and, in a fit of rage, the Narrator, through some way or another, forces her into the story to get the obstacle out of the way.
The narrative/universe/lore/whatever bends to adjust to this new addition, and two results can happen:
A) Brooke becomes the daughter of the March Hare (idea courtesy of @calebs-hangout-corner).
B) Brooke becomes a "background character", but keeps her powers, to an extent.
Whatever happens, Brooke reunites with Kitty and Maddie, and with the help of the Wonderlandians (and maybe Giles?) work together to get the story back to normal.
I don't exactly know what the overarching message of this arc would be... something something rewriting can be bad sometimes IDK
ANYWAYS that's the gist of it, feel free to ask questions, or add your own ideas! :)

Guys I think Giles Grimm may actually not be able to understand non-Riddlish due to his curse. I mean, Maddie has to ask him questions, instead of Giles just answering.

NEW SONG!! Not the best part of this song entirely, but it’s the least insane part. :) It was kinda recorded in a rush, since the composition of it in the moment is terrifying to us. The full thing may be one of my favorites so far.

So, the revolution:
Raven doesn’t sign the storybook of legends, they find out it was fake, all the shenanigans that happen in the show
Darling wakes Apple up, they go back to the school. Darling is still a royal, but knows that she’s not meant to be a pretty princess who sits and waits for someone to save her. Apple is having an identity crisis and a sexuality crisis at the same time, she thought her whole life that she and Daring were meant to be, but she was woken up from a sleeping spell by his sister, and she knows how these curses work, so that can only mean one thing…
Meanwhile Headmaster Grimm, together with Baba Yaga and Rumplestiltskin, is arranging to have his brother transported elsewhere, and being extra ruthless with the school policies during the rebuilding, because he knows his control is slipping, but unfortunately, Professor Badwolf, Coach Gingerbread and Professor Piper, together with the Rebel Student Coalition, composed by characters such as Raven Queen, the Hood-Badwolf sisters and their strange cousin, Madeline Hatter and her gaggle of wonderlandian friends, the Beauty girls, that new pink transfer student, the short haired O’hair girl, and many more, ambushed them, setting Giles free, and the three just barely escaped, being so badly outnumbered
After that, Professor Badwolf, the one with the most authority and more leadership skills, assumed the post of principal, as the Hatters took care of reintegrating Giles into society, he started working on reviewing the guidelines, and quickly overruling many parts of it, the first being the illegality of Queer Relationships and Self-Expression, something that had caused his family a great deal of hurt
During the next few months, the RSC worked on reaching out to several counselors and therapists across the realms to help break through all the grooming the royals still held on to, specially the noble kids, it was a period filled with a lot of heart wrenching realizations, apologies and healing
Afterwards, they slowly started going back to normal, and the timetables looked a lot different, the science, language and mathemagic classe-ics were all mandatory for everyone, but subjects such as “princessology” “dragon riding” and “sword fighting” became electives, instead of mandatory based on arbitrary reasons, such as so-called “destinies” based on ancestrality
After their graduation, some of them started businesses, some of them started charities, some of them became gobletrotters, most of them have been arrested in at least 3 different occasions
And they lived out their lives, not happily ever after, but they had their chosen family, and that was enough

@milkteethss sent "you're so beautiful... even when you're crying" for: madeline & giles
She knew why he was saying it, to try and praise her, to tell her to keep going. But it didn't make it any easier, the pain still flickering up through her core.
Madeline let out another whimper as his hand came down against her ass once more, tears continuing to dribble down her cheeks.
"I'm sorry, I never should have disobeyed you, your highness," the blonde whimpers out, with a sniffle.

So for shits and giggles, I watched a trilogy of loosely connected Hammer vampire films.
They were all somewhat based on the Sheridan Le Fanu novella Carmilla, rather than anything tied to Bram Stoker's Dracula. I'll do a short review on each. To start, The Vampire Lovers is the best of the three and the first in the series.
Tumblr media
It was first in line, so it was able to borrow the most on the source material. It hits right out the gate with the best horror scene in the whole trilogy with an unexpectedly violent kill. Ingrid Pitt is the centerpiece of the entire movie. If you aren't feeling her performance, you'll probably hate it. Madeline Smith is rather silly as the naive damsel in distress. She's stunning, and was one of the most iconic starlets of the late 60s/early 70s Hammer films. But I wouldn't call it a great performance. Peter Cushing gives a surprisingly heartfelt, but sporadically placed performance. Honestly, besides the pretty revolutionary for its time (dating back to the novella) lesbian vampire plot, it's a fairly standard vampire tale. I'd watch it again.
Tumblr media
Lust for a Vampire was the worst of the three and the second released in the series. Very melodramatic. If not for the violence and nudity, its plot and acting wouldn't be outside the realm of your average soap opera. The Giles Barton and Richard LeStrange characters were just two dudes creeping on girls in finishing school. The Mircalla and Janet characters were fine, I just don't know that they were given a lot to do beyond be pretty blondes for LeStrange to stare at. The discount-Christopher-Lee Count character just did not work for the tone of this movie. Bordered on parody. The ending borrowed more from Frankenstein than any vampire movie. I will not watch this again.
Tumblr media
Twins of Evil was the second best and the final film of the trilogy. Peter Cushing and Damien Thomas did most of the heavy lifting. But it was hard not to love the performances by identical twins Mary and Madeleine Collinson. Punching well above their weight for most of the runtime, they were definitely the most memorable starlets of the trilogy. And the plot was a surprising indictment against extreme religious conservatism. There were a few lines that were legit digs against religious fervor and early modern societal witch hunts. I would totally watch this one again.
