If you're ever feeling down about not having accomplished anything in your current age:

About 15 years ago, a man by the name of Kenichi Maeyamada (aka Hyadain) released a parody remix of 'The Battle with Four Fiends' from Final Fantasy IV. The lyrics include a bit of NSFW jokes (namely Cagnazzo having a 'turtle head', which is a penis joke), but it's a fucking bop.

Mind you, he made this in his late 20s, along with a variety of other songs including Mega Man 2 themes being remixed into love and sex ballads, a stellar remix of Dragon Quest 4's casino theme being made into characters feuding over poker, and a completely stunning rendition of the Final Fantasy theme WITH LYRICS!

Mind you: After a while, he stopped doing these videos, as he became busy making quite of a bit of music for J-Pop musicians and anime intros.

Probably one of my favorite anime intros is the one he did for Nichijou, which is such an amazing comedy anime. Don't get me started. It is so my humor, and also, the intros are so, so good and cute.

He's still making music to this day, but the funniest bit of the story happened last year. Hyadain is in his early 40s at this point, and last year, SquareEnix confront him asking for him to make a song for one of their games.

I SHIT YOU NOT: THEY ASKED HIM TO MAKE A BOSS THEME REMIX OF 'THE BATTLE OF FOUR FIENDS' (THE SAME SONG HE PARODIED AT THE BEGINNING OF THIS POST) FOR THE AWARD WINNING MMORPG EXPANSION: FINAL FANTASY XIV ENDWALKER!

And it's such a fucking banger! In the comments, you can see people reference some of the lyrics from Hyadain's parody. It's so good.

Like, I'm not going to say Hyadain has lived this legacy where he is a god we all need to bow down to. But he's made some pretty awesome stuff over the years.

Anyway. I just thought this whole story was cool, and felt like sharing.

FF14 twitter just confirmed that the new trial theme for the current patch was arranged by Kenichi Maeyamada, aka Hyadain. 

They literally went and got him to make an updated remix of that joke version from who knows how long ago.

I just learned something really cool about the Rubicante theme in ffxiv!

So this arrangement was made by Kenichi Maeyamada

Also known as Hyadain! Who made some of the first ever fan versions of ff songs I remember finding on youtube over a decade ago!!

This is a remastered version of the 4 fiends theme video that I used to watch a lot back in the day!

I used to listen to a bunch of the songs in this playlist over and over while I was doing my collage work xD

My favourite ones were Doga and Une, chocobo!!!!, rap de chocobo, Ultros Boogie, and FF Main Theme remix. I'm ending off my night by listening to them all again xD

I've gone back to one or 2 of them over the years but some of these I haven't heard in such a long time it's nice to hear them again especially knowing he got to work on a song in a massively popular track in ffxiv :D

Maido, Okini!: The Best of Tacoyaki Rainbow

The mileage admittedly may vary in the in-your-face quality found in Tacoyaki Rainbow’s earlier records from both the kitchen-sink sounds and peculiarly niche hooks — many of them courtesy of Kenichi Maeyamada a.k.a. Hyadain. To their credit, you figure “aging well” did not really factor into the design of a song like “Naniwa No Haniwa” that’s way too occupied instead in what it’s shamelessly selling you: the group’s Kansai identity. I’d even argue it’s not the fault of the record than the changing times, where, almost a decade later, the postmodern interrogation of cultural identity — “what does it mean to be an idol from Kansai or, sometimes, from Japan?” — has been received with indifference, if not marked as cringe.

Quirky as it all seems, take those “we’re from Kansai and we’re proud!” elements out of the group, and their music starts to stand out less from the crowd. The genre exercises yield good to amazing results when measured to their own standards yet good-to-amazing genre exercises alone doesn’t count for anything  so unique to an idol album from the 2010s. It’s when those unexpected experiments like their flirtation with P-funk sets the stage for their proclamations of pride and living out your best self that truly accounts for something great — something uniquely them.

During their later years, the reference to that sense of pride in their best songs shifted from the “tacoyaki” in their name to “rainbow.” The Tacoyaki Rainbow project at its best was always about embracing the difference and feeling proud about who you are, expressed through the choice in sounds and cultural details but more importantly the local dialect. The later years saw its focus expand from not just Kansai identity but personal individuality, and there hasn’t been a celebration of self in idol quite like the number-one song listed here.

BEYOOOOONDS - Kinoko Takenoko Taisenki Lyrics + Hyadain’s comments

The longest song on BEYOOOOOND1St is going to also get the longest translation post.

If you are familiar with Japanese snacks, you might know about Kinoko no Yama and Takenoko no Sato and the rivalry they have, but if you’re not, you can read about it here. In November 2019, RFRO member Takase Kurumi actually blogged about this conflict, and said that she was on team Kinoko while most of the group prefer Takenoko. Ironically, in the song, Kurumi is the leader of the Takenoko army. For a while I thought that this blog post had inspired Hyadain to write the song, but thinking about the timing, it’s also completely possible that the song came first and inspired the blog post.

Hyadain being the big deal music producer he is, he also had the opportunity to talk about this song on Musicru, a show he’s a regular on. Since I found what he said pretty entertaining, I translated it, and subtitling superhero Davidguy timed and typeset it so you can all watch and see Hyadain’s message for world peace.
