The Dunmer seem to have magicalmeans to talk at each other over long distances. Why don't Altmer have them, considering you claim to be more advanced? Why you never contact your husband like that?

Pah. The Dunmer. Their magical means of communication are primitive, little more than opening a window onto the void of Oblivion and throwing in a message in a bottle. They call upon weak willed Daedra and plant a compulsion upon them to deliver the message, sending them through the Void to track down the intended recipient.

Tis no surprise they resort to such base summonings and brute force methods. The Dunmer are the hateful spawn of Daedric hands. They think naught of violating the Divine blood they once possessed by consorting with the foul powers of Oblivion. We Altmer are by far more pure, the true keepers of the essence of the Divines upon Nirn. We know better than to trust our secrets and our words to the fickle nature of the Daedra.

Besides. Consider the inherent risks of the Dunmer method. The summoning of the creature itself must be precise, the creature summoned of sufficient capacity to retain the entire message. The compulsion and the message itself must be pressed into the creature, both having the risk of going awry or being misunderstood. And even should that all go as planned and the creature leaves to find the recipient, one is then trusting that the Daedra can find the intended. One must be aware of the risks of the creature breaking free of the compulsion, or falling prey to other Deadra along the way, or getting lost in the various paths of the various Planes. Tis crude, uncertain, and ultimately, foolhardy.

We Altmer prefer more certain methods. We prefer to touch the minds of others, using dream trances or similar. We prefer to safeguard ourselves against the whims of the Void, sending our consciousness into enclaves of protected space created and maintained by the most powerful of our elders. We craft trinkets and charms empowered with energy which others who know the signature can use to touch the mind of the wearer, alerting them that somebody wishes to speak with them. That is not to say that some do not, in the most desperate of circumstances, resort to using Daedra as messengers; others, the most powerful and sure of themselves, may send their own consciousness out onto the winds of the aether, meeting with others upon the Planes.

Among we Altmer, such things are common, another favourable consequence of our magical gifts. One’s demanding Daedra spawn is not, however, an Altmer. He lacks the magical skills or strength for these forms of communication, and as such, one is reduced to the slow methods of Man to remain in contact with the flame haired troll turd. Notwithstanding the romanticism of sending and receiving letters.

Claim to be more advanced, indeed. As if it could ever be in any doubt.
