Ok ok but I think it would be funny if we now managed to gaslight the internet into thinking we made a real older movie up.
"You've seen The Women (1939)? No way, we just whipped that up like a month ago on Tumblr. Yeah, sorry, we lied so hard you all mass hallucinated seeing it. 2008 remake? No, no, that's the original. Ya we made the old one up for shits and giggles :/"

Mališa is what happens when you try to make a Goncharov but you dont have the budget so you compensate with equally stunning shots made for fraction of the price that drive home the central theme. Not having that many actors who had to show their face meant you could reuse the same people because people look all kind of the same to pigeons. its quite impressive what they managed to achieve with a budget of a cheeseburger and some tin cans.

So, has anyone ever made a masterpost (or masterdoc, whatever) about Mališa (1987) like people have done for Goncharov (1973)?
Got interested in Tumblr’s fake movies again...

Listen, if you haven't seen Mališa (1987) don't talk to me. It's such a masterpiece of film and you can't tell me that Mališa landing on the anti-bird spikes of the prison wall wasn't perfectly calculated symbolism on the director's part. And the camera work! The film hardly uses outside perspective (usually for an aerial shot of the city) but the outside perspective trying to watch Mališa land was genius. It was only two seconds, but it really shows the determination and bravery she has navigating the human trap.

Also the scene where she pecked at the coin was definitely another highlight of the film for me. Just the fine detail of the coin as she closely inspects it, gauging if its food, and then the test peck. It's hard, but she's doesn't give up easily. I love hearing the little tings the coin makes as it drops back to the ground when she tries to pick it up or gives it a particularly hard peck. A nice light-hearted moment that was well placed.

I really liked how in the opening of Mališa you get to see an aerial view of the city, but Mališa also visits several places you see later in the movie. In the opening you can clearly see how she is only focused on the illustrious plumage of other doves while ignoring eg. the old man feeding the others, since she is cared for well. The next time you see this place she is crazy with hunger and suddenly the other doves seem way more threatening to her, competing with her for bread cumbs. All while as a human in the audience you feel the real threat coming from the nationalists you can hear intimidating and then beating up a Serbian merchant just off screen.

Mališa (1987), directed by Boro Drašković, starring Bogdan Diklić, Milena Dravić, Predrag Manojlović, and Jelisaveta Sablić
The original poster for the Soviet-Russian release of the (censored) film in 1988. The bourgeois characters and the archduke are clearly highlighted as villains, the scene were Mališa steals the diamond earring is put into the centre of attention. The finely nuanced politics and ethics of the original film are thereby flattened in accordance with Soviet ideals.

I love that Tumblr is getting into older movies lately, it's introduced me to both of these masterpieces. Goncharov was obviously a great find but I wish more people would give credit to Mališa by Boro Drašković (1987).
Honestly, I think this is my new favourite movie. I've never cried such bitter tears over a pidgeon before.
EVERYBODY GO WATCH MALIŠA

Im just saying Goncharov wouldve protected Archduke Ferdinand so that he'd owe him a favor later on. Goncharov wouldve prevented WWI. In exchange Goncharov gets diplomatic immunity to prevent prosecution. Katya would've left him earlier and lives her life back in Russia with Sofia as he goes mad with power, taking over the Austro-Hungarian crime syndicate.
Thanks for coming to my Mâlisa/Goncharov fanfiction

I haven't seen enough appreciation for the different pidgeons that portrayed Mališa throughout the film, they all did so well and the trainer (i forgot their name) did such a great job

People are getting mad about the Wes Anderson Mališa remake not being in black and white but I think he is the only director that can pull it off.
