Ok.
So.
I know this movie was very pretty. Very pretty. Super nice to look at.
But.
God so much of the plot felt very underdeveloped and confusing. It felt like it was missing 80% of the story from inside the U. She only has like 2 conversations with Beast? How does anything in the virtual world....work? Why does not-Gaston have a dox-ray? What exactly did Beast do that would make the not-internet-cops hunt him? Why is there no moderation happening? Do they...feel pain in U? Why? (It feels like Digimon rules. Is this Digimon rules?)
Honestly, the moment the movie really lost me was when an adult finally calls the cops for a wellness check and is told "they need to wait 48 hours" for....for what? To report an active assault? I...

But at least it was pretty?
This movie has 95% on rotten tomatoes.

Mamoru Hasoda’s Mirai Gets Nonlinear In This Official English Trailer
Mirai from Mamoru Hasoda (Summer Wars, The Boy and the Beast) officially released July 2018 in Japan, but is now coming to the US. GKIDS releases Mirai on November 30th, and it will be showing in limited release in various theaters around the country, including as Fathom Events.
As we previously wrote:
The film follows four-year-old Kun-chan as he becomes a big brother to Mirai, his baby sister whom he believes “stole his parents’ love from him,” Anime News Network reports. During the first “overwhelming” time in Kun-chan’s life, he ends up meeting an older version of his sister when she arrives from the future.

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
One of the few movies that made me shed a tear. I love movies like these. Mamoru Hasoda is such a genius ;u; I recommend this movie to everyone because of the light heartedness and the themes it employs on the viewers, especially those who likes movies with feelz in them!

I'm so upset that I've finished all of Mamoru Hasoda's films.  Which animated films would recommend I watch next (besides Ghibli)?

Mamoru Hasoda’s The Boy And The Beast, Oscar Submission
The Boy And The Beast (Bakemono no ko) is the latest film from Mamoru Hasoda. Hasoda has grown quite the following from his other works, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Summer Wars and Wolf Children (Ookami kodomo no Ame to Yuki). Now his latest masterwork, The Boy And The Beast is an Oscar submission for the animated feature. The film premiered in Japan, July of this year, and will release in select theaters worldwide early 2016 (x).
Personally, I loved The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and Summer Wars, but I was very disappointed with Wolf Children. My hope is that The Boy And The Beast will be more like Hasoda’s earlier films which were exciting and triumphant. Either way, I’m excited for more unique and colorful 2D animation from one of the masters.
The Boy And The Beast is one of several films up for the Animated Feature category at the 88th Academy Awards early next year. See the full list and learn about the curious circumstances surrounding the upcoming Oscars here.
