Things Biden and the Democrats did, this week #25

June 28-July 5 2024

The Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Is putting forward the first ever federal safety regulation to protect worker's from excessive heat in the workplace. As climate change has caused extreme heat events to become more common work place deaths have risen from an average of 32 heat related deaths between 1992 and 2019 to 43 in 2022. The rules if finalized would require employers to provide drinking water and cool break areas at 80 degrees and at 90 degrees have mandatory 15-minute breaks every two hours and be monitored for signs of heat illness. This would effect an estimated 36 million workers.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency announced $1 Billion for 656 projects across the country aimed at helping local communities combat climate change fueled disasters like flooding and extreme heat. Some of the projects include $50 Million to Philadelphia for a stormwater pump station and combating flooding, and a grant to build Shaded bus shelters in Washington, D.C.

The Department of Transportation announced thanks to efforts by the Biden Administration flight cancellations at the lowest they've been in a decade. At just 1.4% for the year so far. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg credited the Department's new rules requiring automatic refunds for any cancellations or undue delays as driving the good numbers as well as the investment of $25 billion in airport infrastructure that was in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

The Department of Transportation announced $600 million in the 3rd round of funding to reconnect communities. Many communities have been divided by highways and other Infrastructure projects over the years. Most often effecting racial minority and poor areas. The Biden Administration is dedicated to addressing these injustices and helping reconnect communities split for decades. This funding round will see Atlanta’s Southside Communities reconnected as well as a redesign for Birmingham’s Black Main Street, reconnecting a community split by Interstate 65 in the 1960s. 

The Biden Administration approved its 9th offshore wind power project. About 9 miles off the coast of New Jersey the planned wind farm will generated 2,800 megawatts of electricity, enough to power almost a million homes with totally clear power. This will bring the total amount of clean wind power generated by projects approved by the Biden Administration to 13 gigawatts. The Administration's climate goal is to generate 30 gigawatts from wind.

The Biden Administration announced funding for 12 new Regional Technology and Innovation Hubs. The $504 million dollars will go to supporting tech hubs in, Colorado, Montana, Indiana, Illinois, Nevada, New York, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Florida, Ohio, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin. These tech hubs together with 31 already announced and funded will support high tech manufacturing jobs, as well as training for 21st century jobs for millions of American workers.

HHS announced over $200 million to support improved care for older Americans, particularly those with Alzheimer’s and related dementias. The money is focused on training primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, and other health care clinicians in best practices in elder and dementia care, as well as seeking to  integrate geriatric training into primary care. It also will support ways that families and other non-medical care givers can be educated to give support to aging people.

HHS announced $176 million to help support the development of a mRNA-based pandemic influenza vaccine. As part of the government's efforts to be ready before the next major pandemic it funds and supports new vaccine's to try to predict the next major pandemic. Moderna is working on an mRNA vaccine, much like the Covid-19, vaccine focused on the H5 and H7 avian influenza viruses, which experts fear could spread to humans and cause a Covid like event.

BANGTEEZ ; DISCHARGE REUNION

ATEEZ's producer finally reunites with Bangtan brothers after 18 long months.

June 10, 2025 (10:38PM)

Kim Taehyung and Kim Namjoon were discharged early this morning following the completion of their mandatory eighteen months of military duty and it would appear as though their supporters were not the only ones eagerly awaiting their return - with the countless news sites present capturing a heartwarming moment involving Yoongi's younger sister, Himari. In footage released to the public, the young woman waited near their vehicle as to not interrupt their press conference on such an important day but was soon motioned over by the leader seconds after he realized who the figure was, and despite seeming calm mere moments prior, she ran over to the men that so often take on the position of older brothers.

While the microphones were not close enough to pick up on the lively conversation that followed long overdue embraces, they could be seen examining the engagement ring on the vocalist's finger and smiling brightly - though it likely was not their first time seeing it as she has hinted at their presence on that day. It was when Taehyung said something through a slightly more solemn expression that Himari turned away from the cameras by hiding in his arms, and when questions along with concern arose amongst the crowd, Namjoon mouthed; "she's crying" before gently rubbing her back.

The maknae previously expressed feelings of emptiness following their enlistment as they had been heavily present figures through the later half of her childhood, and their mirroring of this sentiment became very clear through the way in which both members took turns holding her despite her attempts to leave in order to let the spotlight shine on them. Netizens themselves were brought to tears at this reunion as many claimed that they had not seen such comfortable childish behaviors from Himari for some time, some even expressing their relief at the knowledge that her found family was piecing itself back together - especially considering that her biological brother lives on an entirely different continent.

The senior idols shared pride of Himari's recent achievements through their social media platform along with sadness that they could not be present for such historical milestones that in some cases redesigned the industry, but appear to be making up for lost time right after walking past the military base gates. After endless patience, fans now only need to wait for the younger members - Jimin and Jungkook - along with Yoongi in order for the group to be complete for the first time since 2022. As for the young producer, only her best friend, adoptive brother / fatherly figure, and chosen brother remain missing from her life.

There's absolutely regular talent shows and battles of the band every quarter or so.

Spider-people usually aren't the most popular back home on their Earth's, so Miguel permits having shows and activities like this so Spider-people can bond and relieve stress between Canon Events

Hobie has won multiple times - His and Gwen's band won last quarter, BUT they don't always win. MetroSpider is another past winner.

The rule is Spider-members only. But if your powers help your music, you can use them (ie, Hobie can play guitar without an amp-)

Training is a HUGE thing.

And it's mandatory even between missions. Time trails, Web strength testing, problem resolution training, weekly classes - It's a lot.

Your training schedule isn't always the same, and your classes are determined by your skill, specific powers, and universe

Money isn't used on campus. It's banned actually, and mostly useless when everyone is from a universe with a different exchange rate, political climate, tender etc.

Instead, The main currency is based on a points system connected to training/missions.

The more missions you do, or the more you train (therefore making you a better hero to your universe), the more points you earn

Things like the cafeteria and dorms are completely free. But points can be used to earn perks like suit upgrades, or things from the commissary

The Commissary is a store on campus where you can buy authorized items from other Earth's.

They have everything from training materials like mechanical webbing - with different properties/effects - to leisure things like cool video games from Margo's world or music from other time eras, vintage things from old universes, etc

Points can also be used for a number of other stuff such as:

Extra jumps on your watch. The more missions you do, the more jumps you can buy, allowing you to go to other universes on your off time (to hang with friends)

Suit Upgrades. Your suit is surveyed and upgraded for free at joining, and it gets upgraded with every class you gain (C Class -> B Class -> A Class -> etc.)

However, you can use points to upgrade or even just redesign your suit. There is a Suit Center where fashionable and genius Spider-people will help you design and adjust your suit based on your universe and villains

There's support groups, a lot centered around Canon Events.

For teens and young Spider-people there's an Educational Program

It can be done part-time with active mission work or full-time on campus

You train in multiversal research, Spider genetics, and other technology such as Doc Ock technology and Green Goblin biology

You can be offered a job on campus after completion - Margo is a graduate of this

If your participate in Educational Program, Lyla will be your mentor and you'll report to her

Educational students live in separate dorms, and the program is kinda intense, but VERY fun

There are different focuses in the program

Spider-Geneticists have a short residency after, they help take Spider vitals and oversee Training

You can also specialise in Spider-medicine - in which you work in the Infirmary

There are some CRAZY (secret) Parties all over the Spider-verse.

Disco-Spider loves a good party. Her and Pavi through insane ragers, a new one in a different universe everytime

Miguel has no idea

But partying on the walls and ceiling while Spider-people play super-human live shows in the world's craziest mosh-pit -

Spider-parties hit different.

It's one of the only time everyone is unmasked around each other

There's a really loose dress code

You DO NOT have to wear your suit 24/7. What is someone gonna do, rat you out in your universe?

Everyone is in their suit for ATSV cause Miguel asked them to be completely professional that day (as an intimidation tactic)

That's why Jess, Gwen, Peter, and Hobie are all fine showing their faces as soon as they get to campus.

If anything it's usually seen as weird to be wearing your mask all the time

Casual clothing is allowed. Skirts and dresses without anything underneath aren't allowed (you'll be upsidedown.)

You're expected to have two suits (one main, one spare - you get these at joining) for missions and a separate training outfit for your classes

There's super sports teams

Spidey Football (European not American) expands the rules to all four walls with a ball engineered to stick like Spidey-people do

Track & Swing Team - which Pavitr is a star member of

A small swim-and-dive team for the swimmers, and a small Roller Derby league for the skaters

Pavitr is also a star on the gymnastics team

There's also things like ballet groups, though Gwen doesn't take part

There's a REALLY GOOD Glee club. Spider-strength gives some crazy lung-capacity.

Disco is on the Glee club, and they take it very seriously

Living on campus doesn't threaten your home verse - you'll still be on call!

Lyla monitors all universes for anamolies - sending Anamoly Teams of 2-6

However if your universe experiences a non-anamoly, your watch will be pinged for a mandatory report, and you'll be sent to your universe to handle it

As such, your watch is like a doctor's pager. You can be called for anamolies or your universe at any time (If you're an active member in your universe, living on Society Campus, or have a contact negotiated for that. Class S members like Hobie can negotiate to be Selective Active members)

There's a little underground Spider-market

If you ask Hobie, he can definitely hack your watch for you.

If your Electro has been beating your ass, you can get your hands on electro-resistant webbing without spending points.

The Society has a small group of people willing to trade you for anything you've got, or even just help you out for the hell of it.

You just have to know where and who to ask

There's a couple Spideys that don't pay electric because someone hooked them up with a super clean Futuristic generator

MJ's, Black Cats, Osborns, and Deadpools are allowed on campus with clearance, a daypass, and a chaperone (their Spidey)

Only for short periods, or if they're super injured. An MJ might pop in when Peter forgets his lunch.

Aunt Mays are not.

It's considered very rude to call them by their 'base names' - ie. calling MJs 'Mary-Janes' or calling Black Cats 'Felicias'

Not all MJs are Mary-Janes

Though, using the term 'a Parker' is common on campus to refer to large Peter Parker population

Roughly 45-50% of the people on campus are named Peter.

There's other 'groups' - such as 'Not-Parkers' (Non-Peter iterations like Pavitr), and 'Duplicates' (Hobie Brown, Gwen Stacy, MJs, Felicia Hardy NightSpider etc)

Though calling them these things are way less common or accepted than calling someone a Parker ('Not-Parker'is neutral. 'Duplicate' is offensive)

Young Justice fashion week 2025 may 5 - 11*

Whoop whoop! Another year another fashion week 🙌🙌🙌 Grab your art equipment and get ready to dress up our favorite chaos team 🎉💅✨

Themes by days:

Monday - It's…a…musical! (Outfits from any musical production) / Multiverse (any world mentioned in Barry's list from Dark Crisis Big Bang)

Tuesday - outfit from a clothing shop's window in your city / Band AU (can be music band or marching band or a secret third band)

Wednesday - Wearing the rogue's outfits / Season friendly suit redesign (think summer/winter. Canon and made up are both cool)

Thursday - Runway (we gotta have one every year babes) / The gang goes on vacation (incognito? Hawaiian shirts? Vacation = hiking or underwater diving? It's free real estate!!!)

Friday - VillainAU / Horror themed (movies, video games, creepy pastas, go nuts!)

Saturday - They should be at the club / Suit up! But wrong answers only! (Basically anything that isn't their own hero suit)

Sunday - Animals (either animal inspired clothing or animal hybrids with accommodating clothing) / free day

Rules are mostly the same as last year with the biggest change being the addition of this blog, as well as now you can also use the tag #YJFW2025 in your works or tag the youngjusticefashionweek blog! The rest of the rules can be read under the cut~

Rules:

You must create a drawing or a sketch depicting at least one member of Young Justice dressed according to the chosen day's theme. The drawing doesn't have to be fully rendered or even coloured and can be done either traditionally or digitally (or via a secret third thing).

Each day has two themes you can choose from. There is no limit to how many drawings you can do and you can pick both themes if you want to.

The drawing or sketch may contain other characters that aren't part of YJ (or even DC), if you so choose, as long as at least one YJ member is present (and dressed for the theme. It is YJ fashion week after all).

The event is intended to be a short but intense burst of creativity, and the participant should only spend a day per prompt, but that's more for fun and isn't mandatory. Feel free to go at your own pace 👍

Using reference is, of course, allowed and highly encouraged!

If you wanna do all of the themes, the fashion week gets extended to two-three fashion business weeks. (5th may to 25th may)

Participants are encouraged to share their art when it's done. I rly wanna see what you come up with ♥️

Ref of Grovyle for my momnoir au!

I'm not really a fan of how it turned out, so I'll probably be redesigning him. Tried to base him off of a crested gecko, but idk, he looks crusty.

Head canons:

16 years old currently (15 at the start of explorers)

Was found abandoned as a hatchling by Dusknoir and raised by him

Loves Dusknoir like she's his mother

Dusknoir also ended up raising Celebi and Kaen (hero, torchic), so Grovyle sees them as his little sisters

Super tiny for his age. Like even for an AMAB grovyle he's teeny. Part of it is just how he hatched, he's always been exceptionally small for his age. It doesn't help that he's spent the last few years constantly on the run, living off of very little food so his little sisters had enough to eat. As a result, his growth is permanently stunted. He's forever just a leetle guy.

Little dude had slight MBD (metabolic bone disease) from not taking care of himself, but it's really improved lately. Mainly because his mom makes him eat good meals, take vitamins, and enforces mandatory basking every day.

He and Sunflora bask together. It's become a bonding activity for them.

I feel like Sunflora, Bidoof, Loudred, Chimecho and Diglett are around his age, so they hang out together a lot.

Grovyle and Loudred have the kind of friendship where they constantly screw with each other.

He goes to Sunflora to gossip and Chimecho for emotional support.

To him, Diglett is just a great friend to chill with and do lowkey things. They just vibe :)

He and Bidoof are best buds. Bidoof may or may not be crushing on him.

He gets cold easily, so his momnoir made him a little vest.

He was forced to grow up way too young, having to care for both his younger sisters from the age of 13, when Dusknoir got so deep into the whole Dialga cult thing it ended up corrupting his memory and making him forget the three were ever his.

Due to his mature demeanor during explorers, and all his scars, most pokemon assumed he was just a very small adult, while in reality he was merely a frightened child with way too many responsibilities on his narrow shoulders just doing his very best.

Now that he's living in the restored present with his family back together, he's starting to heal. He's learning to actually be a kid again when he was forced to be an adult way too soon.

He has time to be silly again now, and he embraces every minute of it.

His posture is a little more hunched than most other grovyles because of his MBD. As a result, his tail adapted to be longer and more powerful than a typical grovyle tail, he uses it to counter balance.

Your piece must include a character from any of the following Series: Mermaid Melody Pitch Pitch, Ojamajo Doremi, Pretty Cure, Shugo Chara, Tokyo Mew Mew

Crossovers between the project series are okay. You man NOT include characters from other series.

Outfit redesigns or recolors are okay — you do NOT have the be color accurate.

Implied nudity as seen within the series is fine—actual displays of nudity are not allowed.

The theme is "transformation"/"transform". How you interpret the theme is up to you.

Using the color palette:

We will be providing five specific colors for you to choose from.

They will be released after the sign-up period is over marking the beginning of the speed run

Your task will be to highlight at ONE of them in your piece. You will be able to use multiple colors if you wish to challenge yourself but you MUST choose one as your main color.

Artists: You only have to use one color. It does NOT have to be monochromatic. You can pair it with other colors of your choosing.

Writers: How you intemperate and incorporate the color into your piece is up to you. It can do with the emotions the color reminds you of the characters or world that comes to mind. Any association kind of association is valid.

my attempt at redesigning satin & chenille! now, i dont think their original designs were as bad as CREEKS, they just... werent particularly fashionable, is the main thing, which is awful bc their whole thing is fashion! this could have been solved just by giving them new outfits but... wheres the fun in that? more in depth rambling under the cut (it gets long, be warned)

when redesigning the twins, i actually went largely off of this concept art i showed before

i loved how much better it conveyed them being into fashion by giving them a tonne of accessories, and i think them being japanese instead of swedish makes more a lot sense thematically; when thinking about fashion, you tend to picture harajuku before you picture sweden. um. sorry, swedes. im sure youre very snappy dressers!

i kept something similar to their final colour scheme, since pink and blue has a better contrast than magenta and red. while keeping the rainbow accessories might have looked nice, i do like how final s&c have a very neat palette of pink/blue/purple + yellow accents. nice and clean and simple and effective. theyre very colour coordinated. i swapped the skin and hair shades, honestly it was mostly because i knew i wanted their little cheek stamps (which replaced their glitter freckles, so that could be a trait specific to poppy and creek) to be yellow/gold and it looked a lot better on the deeper colours than the pastel. and im glad i did, bc now their hair looks like marshmallow twists! so cute

for their clothes, i kept chenille wearing a kimono (although obviously a much different one, opting for pastel pink and lace instead of highlighter yellow and thin ribbons) and gave her satins leg warmers , while satin has chenilles anklets. for satin, i knew her not wearing a skirt or dress was mandatory; she just looks way better in shorts and trousers while chenille wears skirts. her exact style was VERY SLIGHTLY based on fairy kei, but with how simplified it had to be to fit on a chibi troll body, that isnt particularly obvious. still, i think its sufficiently cutesy enough to contrast chenilles more put together style, which fits since how satin... isnt the brightest, and chenille doesnt tolerate any nonsense (unless it is her own nonsense, of course)

this is unrelated to the design itself, but since they are no longer swedes and are now japanese, for obvious reasons they would not be voiced by icona pop. im not into the jpop scene but im sure theres a popular jpop girl duo out there! or maybe two specific members of a larger group. you 🫵 the audience can decide!

Part of cleaning out my Google Drive is going through all my files, and I've been reading through my National Clean Your Home Month manifesto. It's mostly up-to-date but I'm going to redesign the signup poll and build a resources list from previous years' polls.

Something I wanted to institute last year but couldn't figure out how to is "Author Mirroring" -- some way to pair up NaNoWriMo writers and NaClYoHo cleaners, so that, for example, for every 100 words a writer writes, a cleaner will do 10 minutes of cleaning, or vice versa. It wouldn't be something mandatory, just an added little fun thing people can do, finding a National Month Buddy.

But I cannot figure out how to set it up so that people can easily find each other.

I could have a poll where cleaners go and drop their contact info along with a short blurb about the kind of setup they're looking for, and then writers can go and pick a cleaner to try and pair with, but that's not super efficient because it requires a lot of trust on one person's part and a lot of initiative on another's. I could set up a messageboard where people can post about it and have actual conversations, but I'm bad at messageboards in general and that kind of thing usually needs a moderator and I don't have the time or spoons. Ditto Discord, to an even greater extent because I truly dislike using Discord and generally refuse to have or join servers.

And I don't want to just randomly pair people, like, you should vibe with your Mirror.

Anyone have any ideas? I might just have to leave it at like, a post I make in October saying "Hey, find yourself a buddy if you want one, I think it's a great idea".

Our epic tale began on a cold, wintery eve. Under the dim light of a moon hidden by snowy clouds, the city transformed. Walls creaked and crumbled, rebuilt in an instant in new shapes; new forms. The modern metropolis was replaced with a realm crafted from sugary treats. Gingerbread walls, gumdrop roads, cinnamon stick trees, candy castles. For this was now a fantasy candy land: the realm of the Candy Witch.

"AWAKEN, WOULD-BE INVADERS!"

The witch's voice would boom, a thunderous sound with a tinge of familiarity to it. "You dare encroach upon my land? The Candy Witch's kingdom? Well then, I challenge you. Find me at the tippy top of my castle tower, but not before my trials are passed! Only then might you challenge me and, if you win, I may consider a way to send you home!"

In front of every non-NPC entity in the city a holographic paper appeared. A character sheet. "But the witch would not leave you without a means of accomplishing your tasks," Another voice spoke. It sounded similar to the witch's, but was much gentler. Almost as if there was a singular actor playing two different roles. "Will you take up a blade as the noble HEARTBREAKER? Perhaps you would prefer to cast the spells of the PASSION CASTER? Does the healing power of the LOVE DOCTOR tickle your fancy? Or does the path of the thieving HEART STEALER beckon to you? Fill out your character sheets and review the attached quest list, and let your journey begin!"

THE VOICE GOES SILENT

While the people of Spirale would hear nothing else for now, in a dark lab a young woman turned off her microphone. "I'm an android, I'm not supposed to be an actress..." Ofiuco rested her cheek gentle in front of her keyboard. "Oh well. I've always wanted to try LARPing, so why not give this a go? I think everyone could use something a little silly for a change, especially with Valentine's coming!"

OVERVIEW

Welcome to our 33rd event, SUGAR QUEST IV: THAT MOMENTARY SWEETNESS! This event was inspired by a mix of old RPG games and silly mobile game events. So what's going on?

The people of the city are awoken to the sound of a familiar voice claiming to be the Candy Witch who issues you a challenge: pass her trials and find her at the top of the castle tower.

Everyone will fill out a quick character sheet that can be found on this page, which will determine your stats, class, and abilities!

The wards of the city have all been redesigned with a candy fantasy aesthetic, and you can find these changes listed in a section below. For the duration of the event you cannot access the branches.

Trials will be offered in the form of quests that can be chosen at your leisure. Participating in a quest is not mandatory for acquiring participation, but you will receive a flat 200 Stars for your character's account. You can only claim this 200 Stars once, so doing multiple quests will not net you more.

If you're just interested in event participation, any interaction will count regardless of whether it's in a quest or not! We'll also be offering Oficucotot, Bringer of Love as an exclusive event reward! She's a six inch, Ofiuco-shaped drone that follows after you and shoots tiny arrows at your foes. Not lethal, but very annoying! The item description reads: "Watch Your Eyes!".

F.A.Q.

Will this event have a part 2? No! There is only one part to this event. There will be a raid battle during the last week of the event where everyone can face off against the Candy Witch, however.

Can we use our regular powers and weapons during this event? Unfortunately not! Your character has been stripped of their powers and had their physical abilities reduced to that of a normal human. You can only rely on the abilities and weapons provided by the class you choose and your character sheet stats! For non-humanoid characters, please reach out to the masterlist for accommodations!

Are the listed monsters the only ones in the setting? Nope! Those are just suggestions. You can design your own monsters to face, and even the ones listed alongside the locations are open to visual interpretation aside from the traits already listed.

Will my character undergo any visual changes during this event? Your selected class will grant you specific gear and weapons as part of that selection. Otherwise, nope! At least unless you disturb the fairies in the forest...

Are we required to use the quests for our threads? Nope! You can use them if you want the 200 Star reward, but it isn't mandatory to do a quest to get participation and the Ofiucotot, Bringer of Love. You can just do a different thread in the setting!

feel like you are the only person i have seen love mauvika, all i see are her haters mostly when i search her up

rghgsrhkgksh yeah it's a little rough out here in mavulover territory ,,,, i will admit there are fair reasons to dislike mavuika, most notably in her design and animations. it's certainly not the best hoyo could've come up with, and i've seen a few redesigns that i honestly like better than the design we've gotten for her.

that being said, i think she's a pretty solid character from a narrative perspective. i highly enjoy many of the themes and traits of her character (perseverance, determination, a horrendous martyr complex and a deeply loving heart) and i think she plays her role in the story quite well. there are certain parts i wish hoyo touched on more, especially in her story quest (specifically i had hoped we could see mavu break a little, after being strong so long, and having the words from her companions and xbalanque be what puts her back together and a newfound desire to live instead of marching to what used to be her inevitable death) but overall, she's not as bad of a character as people have made her out to be. and honestly, i think this goes for much of the natlan cast, with chasca getting the worst of it. i'll be frank and say i truly do not like chasca's design, but after playing through the archon quest i'll admit i do like her as a character. i enjoyed her arc, and the way she processed and dealt with her grief. the substance is there to be found, definitely.

i'm kind of rambling but tldr my thesis of it all is that you can dislike an aspect of a piece of media without denying any of the good qualities present either. also people seem to be far too comfortable jumping the gun on calling media "bad" when they've never even personally engaged with it before (i could get into a whole other thing about zzz but that horse is long dead dhlfsjhdf). mandatory disclaimer this is all just imo ofc
