One MORE thing that makes Historia so crunchy and good (and if you haven't read it already what are DOING here go read it RIGHT NOW) is how Antiope talks about Hippolyta in her narration. She's always "our Hippolyta" -- undeniably an Amazon even when the first book and a half is abt her quest to become one. Also that one line: "I believe Hippolyta became an Amazon the only way a mortal woman can: by remembering who she was already" or however it goes like DUDE. i am screaming crying wailing etc. Kelly do you see what you're doing to me. Kelly please.

No but like I just love how there's so much love for Hippolyta and how she's so special to the Amazons "you brought us our sisters" while also esp as we get into the 3rd book and the tragic turn ("in the war between the gods and the amazons the amazons lost!!!!") alongside the "we love you. You saved us. You transformed us" we start to get "you betrayed us. You doomed us." like aaaaaggghhhh!!!! I love it when she makes painful decisions and how sometimes they're very selfish and other times very selfless and yet either way Hippolyta just has a horrible time. 10/10 character right there

so this is insanely basic symbolism but i do love how lightning / thunder storms signify an important shift in flash comics. it happens when barry gets his powers, it happens during wally's fight with the reverse, it happens when barry and wally reunite in rebirth...literally almost all of the emotionally impactful scenes involving these characters happen when it's storming and as soon as the skies clear up they've been intrinsically changed into someone different, for better or for worse. smth smth lightning as a catalyst for life smth smth rain as a spiritual cleanser like yeah baby it's all coming together.

Daily Diana #19

I am going issue by issue through Wonder Woman (1987—) and drawing my favourite outfits on a very vague daily schedule.

Back to the clay from whence you came. Issue 19 and we've met Circe. I'm very much enjoying it. My experiments with rendering her skin as clay-like are finally paying off. (She doesn't actually turn back to clay in this issue but it is a very near miss).

12. Jon Kent. Discuss.

LMAO okay so ive kind of skirted around talking abt him in these other asks but basic answer is that I just dont care for him. I don't see the appeal of his character and have no interest reading anything he stars in predominantly. Just evokes no emotion for me at all, not even like loathing or anything. He showed up in Abs Power all cyborg-y and tortured and I was just like "oh hey he's here i guess then". Some sympathy points for Clark bc anyone who makes him sad should be shot but eh on Jon personally. He's not a Lizzie Prince to me where I'm like "I dont think she should exist" AND "here's 927472 ways to get rid of her asap that are interesting for Diana" & mailing that list to DC type feeling im just like oh yeah he's a thing again. In terms of the age-up im not in support of the decision at the time to do it but I also dont think its a genie that can be put back in the bottle or anything like that. While I don't have interest in reading abt them he does have connections outside his family he's gained since aging up (Dreamer & "pink hair guy" as my old roommate used to call him)

18. Favorite Superman related characters!

Almost got this one mixed up in my head with #19 the comics one but I HAVE to go with the classic daily planet crew of Clark, Lois & Jimmy. I love my Superman with a strong dose of daily planet focus & investigations. The planet crew is such a strong and interesting supporting cast (the best in comics i can think of!) and they're just so iconic for a reason! Balancing journalism and superheroes goes so well together and it really comes back to these core characters. I also really love Superman on Earth storylines (as opposed to fighting Mongul or Braniac or whoever all in space) and getting to see Clark's personal life and his effects on those around him and the DP crew is a huge part of many of those stories.
