Now, it’s kind of sad that Flayn’s words about “turning back the clock” or a rough “can’t turn back” echoes to... well, what Billy and moreover Sothis was able to do and perform - Nopes confirmed Flayn never knew Sothis (or rather the inverse), so she might only have heard about Sothis healing the world, but for people who were around when Sothis did this?

Sothis can effectively “turn back the clock”, that’s her main power (at least that we hear of)!

But the person who told him/them those words is actually... Flayn’s mother! Something like “you can’t return to the past, so live now to the fullest” and this is what anchors him in the present - despite Sothis’ powers, Seteth prefers to believe in his wife’s words and live -

Which is, imo, nice, but we see him turning his back on those principles in Tru Piss, hiding or going far far away, ergo refusing to “live to the fullest” if it means continuing existing, something both he and Flayn accept - when Flayn’s character arc and supports is all about her wanting to “live” and not be hidden and living in seclusion ever again.

Does it mean Rhea didn’t buy her sister in law’s words? Or she did, but stopped believing in them afterwards (Lycaon’s death, when she leaves the Empire and starts on the rez Sothis plan)?

you didn't specify if you wanted headcanons or a fic, so I ended up writing a lil ficlet of the EXACT moment Forget Me Not realizes, which also doubles as the moment he confesses because this man is. a mess.

I also wanted to recapture the vibe from this other FMN fic tofocus on that FMN POV and how hes just. so fucking delusional and how none of the shit he thinks matches the things he does. his body and mind live entirely different realities and i think thats awesome of him

Forget Me Not realizes he's fallen for you the moment he's about to lose you.

Your fist collides against his chest in a weak attempt to push him away - even now, you don't hurt him as much as you should've. In this situation, you have every right to tear him to shreds. To rip him out of your life and throw him far, far away, left to rot.

But you could never do that to him. And that's what hurts him the most.

Because he's done so much worse to you.

This is the last argument you two will ever have, this is the one time he went too far - he's sure of it. Forget Me Not knows this, he's been preparing for this outcome for so long, he knows exactly how it will happen.

At some point, you're going to walk out of that door and never come back. This current expression of yours, the one that makes the knot in his throat tighten and tighten until he wishes he could swallow his own tongue and die on the spot, is the last image he will have of your face. Forget Me Not will think of you each and every night, every single hour of the day, until his memories of you become a poor, deluded simulacrum of what you two could've had or until he drinks himself into oblivion.

He will resent you for leaving and he will hate himself tenfold for allowing this to happen. This is the day all of his paranoia is justified, but the one thing that throws him off is the suddenness of it all - Forget Me Not, despite constantly dreaming about the day you finally leave him, never expected this to happen so soon. Not on the day his heart finally allows him to admit he's fond of you.

The irony isn't lost on him, he finds it quite hilarious, truth be told.

You yell something he cannot register at him, your open palm pushing him further and further away. Limp and weak, Forget Me Not allows this, his back now resting against the window of his office. Through foggy glasses, he keeps his gaze on the floor hoping that you'll finally run out of things to say - but then, your face comes into view.

It's hard to see you in such a dazed state, and yet Forget Me Not recognizes this mess of blurry colors and shapes as the former love of his life. The sunlight coming from outside surrounds you in an angelical glow, you remain holy even when your fingers dig into his shoulders.

It doesn't hurt, though. He wishes it did. Forget Me Not does not deserve your love, but he will gladly accept your anger and hatred. Why is it so difficult for you to give him that? Why is it so hard for him to let go of you?

"Do you really have nothing to say?! Nothing at all? After all of that?"

Forget Me Not doesn't reply. He can't even remember the words that came out of his mouth to make you react like this. He's forgotten how to talk and just the thought of missing his lines is enough to humiliate him - you play your role so well, and here he is, fumbling the part. To match the crying saint in front of him, Forget Me Not needs to deliver the best performance of his life, a monster worthy of your divinity.

The Snake of The Walden stands tall and proud, looming over you (Forget Me Not stumbles and falls to his knees, unable to steady himself).

It coils itself around your hand, cold scales scratching against your skin (with shaking hands, he clings onto anything he can reach - your hands, your clothes)

Piercing eyes stare down at you, mocking and condescending in their superiority (everything is so blurry, so wet. why is he crying?)

Finally, the Snake speaks. The words that spill from its mouth are vile, rattling the foundation of the earth.

"I'm sorry, I love you."

desert midi is defs a good pick because we are considering retiring that design in both mini and midi or, at the very least, giving it a substantial break.

I don’t think the Abyssal Serpent has any burnt out eyes! That’s just Messmer who’s transformed into “serpent form” (if that’s a precise enough term considering we also have the winged serpents and Abyssal Serpent to deal with). The Abyssal Serpent model looks healthier than Messmer and the winged serpents tbh. So it’s not having the Frenzied hallmark, but seems more like a call to Bloodbourne’s “eyes within”?

Let’s get to the bottom of this today and analyze these models, shall we, with references from BonfireVN’s awesome videos. (I will say I am currently playing Bloodborne for the first time so I cannot fully comment on that bit, but I agree the eyes upon eyes within eyes is quite Bloodborne-esque and Messmer must have a lot of insight xD)

Logistics first: Messmer = the Abyssal Serpent, which is different from the winged serpents that are only attached to his humanoid form, which are different from the third class of serpents that we’ll get to. Okay, here we go.

I am surprised to hear you think the Abyssal Serpent is healthier than Messmer’s humanoid form or the winged serpents, since there is ample evidence that it is very unhealthy as a result of being suppressed by the seal for who knows how long:

First is the burn scar shared between forms. I agree it is not literally the mark of the Frenzied Flame, but it is a thematic similarity. In the cutscene, Messmer’s eye socket burns in a manner reminiscent of the Darksign, which I think is a purposeful reference to Dark Souls along with the “abyssal” moniker.

The Abyssal Serpent is not only wounded and scarred, but overgrown, both in fangs and eyes and sheer length (which may well be infinite). Overgrowth is a hallmark of the Dark Souls “Abyss” as well—particularly of Manus and his influence. Manus, who is characterized by glowing red eyes all over himself and the corrupted denizens of Oolacile, and whose direct corruption of poor Knight Artorias imparted upon him powers of Abyssal goop… Not unlike the Abyssal Serpent’s tumor-like red eyes and the goop it melds into and out of. Clearly, this means Messmer was born with one of those fragments of Manus’ soul that were flung out across the earth like in DS2, and that’s why he’s so messed up. (I’m JOKING… but like, imagine?)

Anyway, let’s get away from the internal Fromsoft references and talk more about speculative biology here. The Abyssal Serpent should be much wider than it is, period. This indicates it is severely malnourished, but emaciated snakes are hollow and skeletal, not lumpy. So what’s the deal with that? Well, I have a theory, if you would indulge me for a moment:

The Abyssal Serpent is female, and pregnant, and has been pregnant for a very long time. (This photo is of an egg-bearing Burmese python, I am aware that the Abyssal Serpent is most like a viper, but I am just using it as reference (article here)). Of course, it being lumpy-looking is not the only reason I believe it is pregnant. In phase 2, Messmer is able to summon up to six or seven additional serpents. I thought these may have been dark manifestations of the winged serpents at first, but there are too many of them for this to be the case and their features are more reminiscent of the Abyssal Serpent:

I think they are the Abyssal Serpent’s progeny that have been festering inside, another form of overgrowth, unable to be born because of the seal. After removing the seal, Messmer is able to summon forth his serpent children to assist him. They also appear on his humanoid form as the snake bodies within his thighs, upper arms, and chest—he doesn’t have a womb to hold them in, so they manifest all over the place instead (might need some help from Ymir with that). I imagine if the Abyssal Serpent was able to carry out its term normally, Messmer’s humanoid body wouldn’t be so painfully affected by them.

Since these serpent children are not clones, we cannot say they exist due to parthenogenesis. Instead, I propose:

Prior to the seal, Messmer had an affair with Eiglay. They snuck out here in the Land of Shadow, where the snake skin of a young Eiglay remains as proof. But, Marika caught wind of it and said “Hell no, you’re not going to have a bunch of god-devouring snake children, not in my Christian Minecraft server!” and sealed the Abyssal Serpent away before they could be born. This snake skin being near the “O, Mother” gesture makes me think she punished Messmer for this sin—Marika could handle two powerful serpents separately, but both of them together could surely overthrow her. So potentially, one of the reasons she left Messmer stranded in the LoS was to be certain he would stay as far away from Eiglay as possible.

But that’s just my crazy theory, based on a bunch of model and environmental cues that could mean something totally different or nothing at all. Considering the obsession with motherhood in this DLC though, hmm… Also, Messmer’s other half being female fits with the Marika/Radagon and Miquella/St. Trina dichotomies as well, so yeah!

P.S. If you want to get really crazy: considering her red scales and green eyes, Rya could be the other end of the Messmer/Eiglay exchange, with Daedicar as a surrogate mother. But that’s a LOT. She seems a bit too young for that, but who knows…

Wow, it's been a crazy year. I never really expected to end up writing so much, but to see it all laid out has been kind of insane.

I guess I'd just like to thank everyone who's visited my blog, or interacted with my stuff. Even if you're a lurker, just know it means a lot to know people enjoy the silly little things I create. And another thanks to all the friends I've made here this year too.

Maybe it's 'cringe' of me to say, but I really appreciate all of you. I grew up an extremely lonely rural homeschooled kid, so to talk and make friends with so many people from so many different places is, awesome. I never got to be a kid, so it's been great to have a nice, peaceful place to go. I know that's funny considering pretty much everything I write for is pretty grim, but as someone who's so sick of fandom wank, I really like the place we've created.

First DLC Playthrough Thoughts

It's awesome. Amazing. More of Elden Ring and often the best of it all. The world is epic in every way and all I could ask for. Wild bosses and creature designs galore, crazy puzzles and dungeons like the best of my favorite Zeldae, creepy lore surprises and so on.

I spent about 40 hours doing most of the stuff there was to do, including 9/10 of the main bosses and a few of the dragons (not the big one yet). It took about 80 hours to 100% the main game so I would really say this is about half its size if not even slightly more.

The difficulty was very high. I have most of the shadow blessings and played the DLC from level 335-345. I am not great at FromSoft as my reflexes are fairly slow, so I usually grind high to levels to compensate. I did so here and had only a few truly frustrating moments, all of which I came back to later. Only a couple puzzles required going online and those look-ups were justified when I realized how absolutely impossible to guess the solutions were.

I have yet to collect of a few trinkets and defeat the hardest 2 bosses, and will likely do so later on. Also never defeated any flame baskets. I should note I have never beat Manus or the Orphan of Kos, so I've never actually finished a FromSoft DLC. I think someday I will do this one, but for now it wouldn't be too fun so I'm stopping for a while with the memory of an absolute joy of gaming and not pushing it.

I have no real negative criticisms. It has fewer really nasty frustrations and impossibilities than even the main game, and though I'd like to have learned more about a couple non-present characters, the lore they added was epic there's no real complaint beyond personal taste.

Looking forward to the videos and lore discussions and returning to the game once I know of more stuff to do and try. Always happy to talk about it with anyone, answer questions, and give subtle hints about stuff if people want that instead of looking stuff up.

As for your question, I recently just rewatched a good chunk of S2 Part 2 but some of the details around the later bits are still fuzzy (rewatching em is quite hard for me as the english dubs aren't exactly that easy to find out there unfortunately)

I will say though, rewatching it really opened my eyes to just how much of a downgrade Part2 is compared to S1 and even just S2 Part1 itself, not just in story but in like the voice acting and animation. The voice direction is a bit off, characters sound flat, and the animation just feels... weirder, if that makes sense. It's not the worst thing in the world though, it's just an unfortunate thing I happen to notice. They also changed some of the VAs I think (liek Rema's) which was a strange decision but alright ig... There's also the reusing of so many games instead of new ones but oh well... Despite all my problems with it though, I like the inclusion of the new characters (Manus and all the other Leos Valiants). The Leos are all such silly guys :]] I do wish the DV7s got more screentime and played a bigger role though, the first episode for part2 really fooled me into thinking they would lmaoo

S2 Part1 still holds up, certainly not as good as S1 but still, it's got charm! I love the setting actually, Old City is such a bright and colorful place with like all these abstract and messed up winding pathways, it's so weird and funkyy, I dig it a lot!

So pretty!! God... just like how funky the cities look with all of them being like giant floating islands, it will always be cool af to me

Ik most of my followers don't care about runningman much but in the off chance some non-rma fan sees this, look at Tree City (pic below), I love it so much

Although... sometimes it really does feel like Season 2 is where the studio decided to lean more into it being a children's show. It's a lot less "dark" compared to S1 which is a tad disappointing. Like just compare Akong's battle (where the dude literally uses a bunch of the old guys to power up his thingy 😭) compared to CG's big mech fight. Still, I liked it! I like the neat guardians (the lil pullulu spirits who guard the gate, Vivace and Ensemble twins my beloved <3).

ALSO ALSO THE IRON BEAST, I can always appreciate a big robot guy aha

That's all I really got for the ramble aha, I'd say more stuff about S2 and maybe my views on it will change overtime but as of now, I haven't even really gotten around to properly finishing it yet. I remember watching it waaayyy back but it was all in korean with zero subtitles 😭 luckily, I am in a server with people sharing english versions so I'll probably watch those when I get more free time!

I really just miss talking about this show really and I feel like I've largely outgrown the fandom in old spaces where I used to talk in (like Facebook groups and Amino lmfaoo), so it's absolutely awesome to find RMA fans over here on tumblr!
