They're just so beautiful :) One of my favorite things from being an aquarist intern was feeding a trio of them! They are target trained, and they inhale big slabs of fish out of the tongs you hold out for them with their teeny mouths. Big dorks.
I also think it's fascinating that they are thought to be the closest relatives to whale sharks!
You can see a resemblance between these two pictures when you check out their double dorsal fins, sloping back, and pronounced longitudinal ridges!
They are also just the sweetest babies - and in captivity, these sharks often perform parthenogenesis, which is when females basically pup their own clones without the need for a male!
My hot take is that finding blobfish that have been brought on land "cute" is gross and weird. If you actually love blobfish, you should love the fish and not pictures of its bloated, depressurized corpse.
Look at this lad thriving in the depths. Let him be happy.
My beautiful koi betta Bisby has had a jumping spider neighbor taking advantage of her tank light to hunt bugs under for some time, and recently they met face to face! Very happy to capture each of them acknowledging the other - and Bisby's quick look back at me as if to say "you're seeing this too right?!" 🧡
Edit ✨️ For all those concerned, yes, she does have a lid! I'd just cleaned and was hanging out right there where I filmed from at my office desk. If you are new to fish keeping, please invest in a good lid or when picking setups, favor tank kits that include one!
